Key midweek of the league, as Celtic, United and Hibs all deliver

Six games to go and the indicators are all looking good.

Seldom can a hat-trick against the bottom team in the league have carried as much importance as that scored by John Hartson tonight. After the game Hartson revealed that he has been carrying an ankle injury for the last three weeks.

I really hated ankle injuries, especially when I was carrying a wee bit of weight which I am convinced makes the injury worse. It is possible to run, turn and jump with this injury; however, they sap confidence and make you think before kicking the ball. This is never a good for an instinctive goal scorer.

That Hartson made himself available to his manager during this period, knowing that his performance was being affected, speaks volumes for the player – and the dressing room culture at Celtic Park.

With the score still level, Craig Bellamy missed a great chance when clean through. Craig’s stock is high at the moment, and this miss did not prevent him from having another fine game, however, I was grateful it was not Hartson on that occasion. The big man needed a break tonight – just like the ricochet that came his way a couple of minutes before half time.

What can we say about Dundee United? Three weeks ago I said here that they were “great”, and that I hoped the survived. Ironically they were ‘less great’ when beating Rangers, however, they subjugated the home team at Ibrox none the less.

The most interesting part of Rangers play was the defensive partnership of Kyrgiakos and Malcolm, both of whom are vying for the title of ‘my favourite Rangers player’. United scored when Malcolm was caught day-dreaming inside his own box. When Jim McIntyre hit the crossbar in the second half, it was Kyrgiakos who was culpable in stepping aside to allow the attempt at goal.

Big John will have a field day if they play like this ten days from now.

The score from the Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle mattered little, however, I found myself more than a bit pleased with it all the same.

My prediction from the weekend that Hearts new investors might be considering their future has been confirmed by the Hearts Chief Executive Phil Anderton who said “if any businessman or potential supporter of the club reads what people are saying about our club, it means that they will be less inclined to spend their time or money with Heart of Midlothian FC”.

There should be no doubt that the offence felt in Lithuania to Sundays events will be very real. The Hearts owners are sitting in a property worth in excess of £20million. Their stated aim is to make money from the club, this they will achieve quickly, providing a short term return on their investment while reducing the clubs debt.

Hearts future is in the hands of people who seem truly appalled by the action of their fans and who could sell up, pocket £20million and leave without another word.

It does not pay for a club and its support to become estranged (as I have said here once or twice before). Few Hearts fans realise just how vulnerable they have become, I suspect that it is only a matter of time before the big yellow diggers make their way up Gorgie Road.

Dundee United entertain Hearts on Saturday, I believe I have developed an interest.

Gotta be good for us if Inter get chucked out of Europe eh? Another team out of our way for POT 2... Need Jackie to sign on, fingers crossed with Bellamy. Shouldn't we be after Riordan? Has scored bucket loads for an ordinary team... Sad to see our wee Brazillian of on his bike but he was neer going to fit into a 4-4-2, even Lubo would have struggled in that formation, both are/were 3-5-2 players, free role behind forwards... If MON intended to play 4-4-2 he should have known better... But top of the league so not complaining.

Hats off to BBJ. Good to see him back into it. I was one of the gang who was on his case. If we are going to slate players when they are not performing we need to give them credit when its due.
We should build on this opportunity by hammering the opposition in the next game and set it up for the jugular slice against RFC. We need to take it to them and deliver the final blow.

Another painfully mediocre performance in a painfully mediocre season, don't let the scoreline fool you.

Fortunately for us, and O'Neill, the opposition is so dire that we might just get away with winning the league this season.

    Dire stuff.

King Henrik...Agreesurely result over performance matters most at this stage of the season. Granted we've not played the quality of football required but it's the consistency which has been missing this season. Time to reflect on our "mediocrity" will no doubt be sought after we've won the title!

Great to see Hartson get a hat trick,MON should not be putting on the field of play injured players, Suttons' hamstring the other week the classic example,as long as Hartson does the business when it counts (against the huns)then the pressure will be off him.
Absolutely NO chance of Miller coming back to Celtic. He left a free agent,Do you think Celtic will pay a fee for him to return?Unless he returns on loan!
If these Man Utd players come to CP will they just become another two players who will be on the wrong side of their careers and become over paid Celtic players, like some we are trying to get rid of at the moment. If they do come,I hope it's on very short contracts.

King Henrik - absolutely spot on mate! Great result- abysmal performance. For any of you bhoys who didn't see the game 4-0 totally flatters us.We were rubbish.Play like this against the huns and we will lose the league. However, they are even worse than us so we might get away with it!

Thank You Big Bad John! That hat-trick will shut a lot of doubters up.

Agree it wasn't the best of performances, but performances matter little when you're this close to the title - it's all about the result.

Important 3 points. Well done to Hartson for his hat trick, admittedly i am not a fan of his. However his work rate again last night was garbage. At this stage of the season points are all that matters, but you'd need to be on drugs if you think that was an acceptable preformance. Season Ticket for next season - i doubt it. If it's going to be long balls from Balde/Valgaeren then i'll go to Asda on a Saturday afternoon instead.

Not a great performance but we would have taken 4-0 before the game.

I have been one who has criticised Hartson and last night does nothing to reverse my opinion. The header was a very good goal, the first I would have stuck away, the third a penalty.

Fair play to him if he has played through an injury, but there is no questioning he has a weight problem. Again a couple of times Bellamy tore away down the right and our midfield were in the box before him.

If he nicks the winning goal against Rangers I will shut up about him-but will still want a slimmed down Hartson or a replacement next season.

Anonymous 9.05 Enjoy your shopping at asdas. Celtic dont need fans like you anyway give your season ticket up to someone who supports the bhoys thick and thin. It beggars belief with people like you. The team go out against a team fighting for their spl lives and score 4 goals ffs. Celtic were never going to lose that game last night whether it was going to be 1-0 or 4-0. Marshall made a world class save to keep the scorline 1-0 and looked good coming for balls apart from one occasion when bobo got in the way and got injured. I dont care if its not pretty stuff against the dons on saturday as long as we get the points. If you want fast flowing hi scoring stuff go watch basketball.

    Great Result! Poor Performance.

To play football - The Glasgow Celtic Way !

I Thought BBJ was dire last night. The fact that he managed a hat-trick just goes to show that he can be a deadly finisher.

It might show commitment and team spirit playing through an injury but is this really a wise move?

When Bob O'Balde went down with about 15-20 minutes to go why did they not just switch him for McGeady and say "Well done big man, but it is better to be safe that sorry". We still would have been able to play a 4-4-2.

In fact IMHO it would have been a better formation as more players would have been in they're favoured positions.

    Play badly and win 4-0

    or

Play reasonably well and get beat 1-0

I know what I prefer at this time of the season.

We only started passing through midfield after the 2nd goal went in. I'm no manager but maybe Sutton and Lennon being our central midfield duo had something to do with this.....

Congratulations to BBJ....still immobile, still lacking pace but still scoring a barrel load!!
As we all know he has a weight control problem; giving him some credit the ankle problem has probably been restricting his training...

I thought Bellamy had a great game....although it must be said he did lack a bit of compusure on several occasions in front of goal..

Ps does anyone know the last remaining games ie Home/away...

    Is it:
    Rangers A
    Hearts A
    Hibs H
    Aberdeen H
    Caley/Motherwell H

    (In no particular order)

If so how can someone tell me how that was worked out?

spot on Anonymous(9:22 AM), we really don't need fans like that at the games.
For the run-in the bhoys need 60,000 fans roaring them on right to the end, not whinging tut-tut-ers.

It depresses me to think what Anonymous(9:05am) would be like at the game if it's 0-0 on Saturday with 5 mins to go. In fact, he probably would have left 5 mins earlier to get a "head start on the traffic".

Why don't you just go to ASDA this Saturday anyway?

Anonymous 9.22am - you are living in an illusion. I can concede us playing badly & winning on an odd occasion, but we are playing football like this on a regular basis. This isn't the traditional Celtic Way. Infact when they aren't wearing the hoops, it could be Bolton or West Brom we're watching. I support the team fully & always will till i die, however if you think i'm paying £500 quid again this year for little investment in the team & a horrible style of play then you're fooled. Apart from the success - Is this any better to watch than the Celtic teams we watched under McNeil, Hay, Brady & Macari?

On a slightly different note, but interesting stats I thought Id share. Below are the Champs League stats (not including this year) .

    A few points.
    a. The EPL is a lot closer in quality to the portugese and dutch leagues than it is to the Italian or Spanish.
    b. The Tilsleyesque assumed claim of the EPL being the best league in the world is far from the truth. fourth best league in europe - perhaps.
    c. For all the discussions about money and the standard of the SPL etc. We cannot use the SPL as an excuse. Scotland should be the equal of Ukraine or Greece or Portugal - thier leagues are equally pesh.

    Finalists
    Italy 9
    Spain 7
    Germany 4
    Holland/France 2
    England/Portugal 1

    Semi-finalists
    Spain 12
    Italy 11
    Germany 7
    France 6
    England 5
    Holland 3
    Portugal 2
    Ukraine/Greece 1

Id say its pretty tricky to play nice attractive passing football when (a) Livingston have 9/10 men behind the ball/on 18 yard line for the entire game, (b) kick us up in the air at any possible opportunity, and (c) we're getting towards the end of the season and half the team are carrying niggly injuries.
Far better to accept that we got the 3 point when the huns were down, BBJ got his confidence back and were in the driving seat again. And dont forget its only a few weeks since Livi took points at the huns ground. If we can beat them 4-0 away from home and barely get out of 2nd gear I say bring on the huns!

Bellamy needs to work on putting a decent cross into the box. Not an isolated occurrence either by any means, as anyone who watches Wales games will tell you. Still hope we sgn him though as he can only develop.

As for the guy who would rather go shopping at asda than watch celtic...go for it, and give someone who might actually appreciate the chance to get to all the games a chance. Sometimes you dont know you're born.

Can I have your season ticket if you don't want it?

    Everyone else:

Do you all realise or appreciate the excrutiating pressure that these guys are under to win EVERY game? Normally it only takes one or two slip-ups over the course of a season and it could all be over bar the shouting.

Compare this to say Real Madrid in Spain or Schalke in Germany, who have lost 8 or 9 games each, yet are still in with a realistic chance of winning their respective championship.

With this sort of intense pressure mistakes come more easily and relaxed, assured, attractive football is much harder to produce.

Give the Bhoys a break and back them all the way to the FINAL whistle in EVERY remaining game. If you don't want to be there I can assure you there is somebody else who does...

I'm afraid I can't quite equate CL Pot 2 to the standard of football/team we have at present. As a few people have said we might get away with winning the league but that's only because Rangers are so poor. Cast your mind back to October when we were laughing at Rangers. Since then they have lost Klos & Boumsong and we have gained Bellamy yet winning the league is still a struggle.

i think you have missed the point the reason they experience excrutiating pressure is because they do not press home their advantage of
    1. being in front
    2. having much better players
    3. making the game safe
i did not critise their play i critised they application to win, would pushing up the park 10 metres and pressurising the oppostion be too much to expect, by all accounts we gave up space and allowed livingston an opportunity to take the game to us. positive play wins games and leagues not a long ball up the park.

  • At 14/04/05 12:41, Anonymous Anonymous said…

So we score the goal and sit back and hope we win?? or is it score the goal, allow livvy to come at us for Bellamy to exploit the space this would create.

Playing better can also be playing smarter.
Long ball up the park, can translate to putting the ball into space for Bellamy to chase, get the free kick, corner or throw in and take advantage of our dead ball expertise.

Delighted with the win (scoring 4 was a huge bonus) and with the welcome turn of events over at Castle Greyskull.

Getting very interesting now and we need a big performance on Saturday to heap the pressure on Eck (who is now starting to become very amusing with his pathetic attempts to declare the huns are getting a raw deal from the refs).

Only thing about the performance that worries me is that its an indicator of our inability to change gear. If we fall behind in any of these games we will struggle to turn them around (a la Hearts at CP). There's nothing we can do about that now though - we just need to wait till the summer (I hope).

You said it's the consistency which has been missing this season. I disagree. All this season we’ve been consistently poor. That said I’ll settle for efficient till the end of the season to win the league but next year?-no more please.

    Paul

I still believe that Hartson should be sold at the first available opportunity ie the right price . If he’s been playing with an injury then its MON who should be taken to task for always playing “safety first” How on earth will we ever know if the others can do better if they never get the chance. So great that BBJ scored three last night . I’d much prefer a striker who gets one in each of three games and who is mobile enough to create chances for others That’s not Hartson.

    DavieL,

I too was on a high after going top, winning 4 nil, almost choking on my tea with laughter seeing Poorshow missing an open goal from 5 yards and seeing Hibs stuff the East Coast Cousins of William, but some of the comments here are a disgrace - you guys have short memories, we were gettin sttuffed in the Anglo Scottish Cup by the likes of Burnley "playing the Glasgow Celtic way", we were being humped at home by Dunfermline and Partick - remember the feeling when we were holding out for a 1 nil win against Airdrie in the Cup final - we were pish but didn't care cause we WON !! MON has created a team which plays to its strengths and 4 league titles out of 5 seasons (should've been 5 in a row) is testamony to his talents and those of his team. The team can play fast flowing football, when it's allowed to (by the opposition) - if anyone wants to chuck CP they are NOT supporters and good riddance, probably one of the mob who leave early to "miss the rush". This title is too important - we need to put the Huns back in their place. Mark my words - the board WILL release funds and MON WILL make 3 or 4 key signings.

Oh, by the way if you think football in the seventies and eighties was a fast flowing attacking spectacle watch some of the games on Celtic TV they were dreadful at times, the current Celtic team would easily beat them all.

I think some people are splitting hairs here. Brilliant that Hartson scored three goals, lets not take anything away from that, however is he the man to lead us to the next stage in Europe next year. Personally I don't think so.
However, for now everyone should be getting behind him, not here where its about debate, but on Saturday and at all the games from now on. No matter what the score is on Saturday, STAY. Don't leave early. If we are three up stay and applaud. If we are losing give them support. It must be so demoralising to the players that thousands leave early. What must they think? I know every once in a while everyone needs to do it but it seems more prevalent than ever before.
Also, we do need to play better. Agreed. It's quite dull sometimes (though with the exception of the Hearts match I thought it was getting better, more the Celtic way etc). I am sure EVERYONE would however agree that the offer of six 1-0 victories that bored us all rigid for the rest of the league games would result in a hand that was bitten off. For now lets just win. The Celtic way we can worry about later.
Finally a wee story from a mate who's a decent Hearts supporter. Apologies if heard before.

Justin Fashanu was taking a corner for Hearts in front of the Hearts fans when they started barracking him. 'Haw Fashanu, yir a dirty black,English Gay bas***d'
    Good encouragement eh?

Amused by the number of people who are 'better' supporters because they want Celtic to win at all costs.

When did we lose track of trying to play entertaining football?

Entertainment... Do some of you guys actually remember watching Celtic and being entertained... We bludgeon teams.

Thankfully we seem to have a couple of talents at the Club (McGeady - can't get in the side & Bellamy - how long will he be here?) The rest are on superstar wages but are not superstar players... we pay wages that exceed every other club bar Rangers by more than 10 times... Are they really that good?

On Hartson, he is just another example of MON's persistence with his 'chosen' - Thompson, Lennon, Sutton, Hartson... On the teamsheet whatever their fitness or performances... Indeed, often making other players play out of position to accomodate them.

IMO they are all getting too old and are overpaid. At most I would have 2 in the team - Thompson/Lennon and Sutton - but would be surprised if anyone would touch them at the top Premiership wages we pay.

Frankly, it's painfully boring at times watching Celtic and that is reflected in the poor atmosphere.

Still it must be very satisfying knowing your a better supporter 'cos you don't care and we won.

I think the consensus is that it's all about results at this stage of the season, but i think if the standard of play doesn't improve next season then we have every right to raise a few questions. Out of this full season i've enjoyed the victories over Rangers, away in Barcelona & away wins at Hibs & Hearts. Outside of that our standards have dropped. Maybe the loss of Henrik will explain that to a certain extent. I feel the fans deserve to be watching better football than is on show, but hopefully MON can bring in the right people in the summer. i prefer sainsbury's myself.

anyway, in reference to the only non bickering post out of the previous 44, after we play aberdeen we'll have played 17 home, and 16 away games, so we will have 3 away games to come (and rangers 2, as they've only played 16 homes games so far.)

obviously one of those away games is at ibrox (24th april)

we've played hibs away twice, and hearts at home twice, so expect hibs at home and a trip to tynecastle.

aberdeen we will also have played twice at home, so get yer wellies on for a trip to the hill of dung.

finally, we've played motherwell at home twice, but ICT away twice, although, as it looks like they'll finish sixth, it's most likely that whoever finishes in the other spot will be the other visitors to celtic park. leaving the rather bizarre (and grossly unfair) scenario of hosting motherwell 3 times in a season.

as for the other lot... they've got their home game against us, they (should) host aberdeen and hearts, and be away to hibs (if the fixtures work out in two home, two away for the season order.) they however have had two visits already to fir park, so if motherwell make it they'll presumably need to go there again. as for ICT, i'm stumped, i can only find two results between the teams this season, 1-1 at pitoddrie on december 5th, and 1-1 on march 5th at ibrox. but most likely, they'll be taking a trip to the frozen tundra should the other jags get sixth.

so, ermmm, celtic home, hibs and motherwell/ICT, away rangers, aberdeen and hearts

rangers home, celtic, aberdeen and hearts, away hibs and motherwell/ICT.

not really fancying that run in. although, one could mention we've picked up 41 points from 16 away games thus far this season, as opposed to 39 from the same number of home games (wierdly). rangers, unfortunately have a rather respectable home record, although, they are on a glorious losing streak there (of, ermmm, one, although, guess who their next visitors are)

NB, the information contained herein relates only to common sense and logic. any association with what the SPL actually do is most likely purely coincidental.

I get frustrated with the amount of criticism towards the team on here, but I don't think I'm a better supporter.

I do think a lot of the whingers are either very young or have short memories. I believe a view should be taken on MON's total time to date with the club and the same with the big players during his time here. They would be Henrik, Balde, Sutton, Petrov, Agathe, Thomson & Hartson. Every one of these guys have been magnificent over their time with the club, but all have had lapses of form at various times. The OTT criticism )and sometimes during matches, vitriol) at Agathe, Thomson and recently Hartson just beggars belief.

Obviously Henrik has left and only when he look back in history on this season will we truly reflect how much we miss him - it certainly doesn't seem to be taken on board much just now in terms of making allowances for the adjustment without him.

One of the biggest problems without him means we have only 1 proven high goal scorer at the club - BBJ. For a moment, forget his lack of mobility and fitness and ask yourself who exactly can we bring in next year who will be guaranteed to score as many as him. Because the one thing he will always do is score plenty goals.

As regards the overall standard of football, I for one have a few more years of being delighted with the combination of success/playing style before I'm ready to go back to the lovely one touch tippy tappy stuff that we had with Burns/Brady/Barnes and losing out consistently to the huns in terms of trophies and Old Firm games.

Just a little something for all the BBJ-bashers to read (taken from the BBC Sport website). Would you rather have Dwight Yorke than BBJ?...

"Birmingham owner David Sullivan has launched a stinging attack on Dwight Yorke, accusing him of not trying.

The 33-year-old striker is expected to leave St Andrews for Sydney FC by the end of the week and Sullivan claims he has abused his time at Birmingham.

"Yorke is being paid £20,000-a-week and has not been a successful signing. He is a straggler which is not enthralling for the fans," said Sullivan."

BigChipsUk - i think the majority of fans appreciate the value of players like Hartson/Thompson/Lennon etc have been over the past few years to the cause, but there is a real danger that MON thinks they can play every single game at a high level. For example Alan Thompson has been off form for some time, yet MON persists playing him whereas a spell out of the team might have been a better option for both him & the team. It's the same situation with Hartson who has allegdly been playing with an ankle knock. The reason we lost the Scottish Cup Final a few years back against the huns was because MON insisted in playing Lambert & Sutton who were injured. I'm not being negative at all, but i am slightly anxious that MON cannot see the obvious when the team are playing a bit flat.

Great result last night - nothing else matters right now. Congrats to BBJ on his hat trick - he deserved it for the run he made in the first half to get on the end of Bellamy's square ball across the box. BBJ had to make up 25 yds to get there in time and fair play to the big man he made it and could have scored but for a timely intervention from Rubio.
It is beginning to look as if we only have to avoid defeat at Ibrox to give ourselves a great chance to win the league - not a bad position to be in but it has not been our best season - we need to improve next year. Trouble is that as long as Thomson, Hartson, Sutton, Balde and Lennon are around, they will ALL be in the first eleven when fit, thereby restricting the chances for the promising younger players. All these guys are good players on their day and have served us well but my point is that it will be hard for us to improve greatly when they are all playing.

And wat does BBJ do score a hat-trick.

And if it's true that BBJ was carrying an ankle injury sorry for the criticising big man keep banging in the goals.

I don't think it is wrong that some people are on here criticising the quality of play we are producing at the moment,I just think the timing is wrong. If we make no signings in the summer for the CL campaign then I don't see the standard of play improving but that is for the summer and not now.

The eleven chosen last night were chosen for a reason : winning the game at all costs. With the exception of Marshall, they were all players with lots of experience and who MON feels he can rely on.After the euphoria of Tannadice,I think he got his fingers burnt at the Hearts game and has decided that it's safety first till the end of the season.

I've criticised out safety first play here myself but this does not mean I would go to CP and shout abuse or boo or leave early as has been suggested by some posters. The two things do not necessarily go together. What I would agree on is that we need to get behind the players, win the double and then look at what is required for next season.

So it seems that if you criticise a performance you are no longer a 'true' supporter of the club. What complete bollocks, these same people claiming this will probably be apoplectic on here if we lose against the huns and lose the league. As for the 'if you don't like it get lost cause you would be no loss' I think that is the attitude that a certain mob across the water used to have. I believe also that the waiting lists (for both clubs) are absolute drivel. There are certain undeniable problems at Parkhead.

    1. MON has wasted a shitload of money on abysmal players. I believe it cost us in the region of forty grand to get rid of Petta. Disgrace.

    2. We have one stand out central midfielder - Petrov who is box to box. MON plays him on the right hand side to accommodate Lennon & Sutton. Disgrace. Play your best players in their best position.

    3. We still do not have a decent left sided defender after 5 years.

    4. Paul Lambert is still being paid wages by the club. Situation - I go to my boss and say, "I want to do a course boss, it's abroad, so I'll shuttle over there and do it while I should be here playing and training. Oh, and I'll be leaving here next year." Boss - "sounds good to me" WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I don't personally believe that MON will get any significant sums in the Summer. If it is Bellamy then that's his whack. I also feel that his reputation down south will be on a downward slide if we do not get 3 points away in the CL. Look at Liverpool, bog standard English team, big defenders, reliant on one guy (Gerrard). Can do the business away from home. Semi Final CL.

Also, a query Paul - With regard to MON's rolling contract, if he leaves midway through a season do we get full compensation for that year or bugger all?

  • At 14/04/05 18:02, Blogger stepjam said…

I believe the rolling contract means that a full years compensation is always required if he wants to leave for another club regardless of when this happens. Alternatively he could work out his notice period (1 Year)and leave for nothing. Knowing Celtic we still wouldn't be able to organise a new manager within the year and TB would be back as Caretaker.
Don't fret now, when we beat them at Ibrox all the dodgy / boring performances will be forgotten

Some truly bizarre arguements going on here mostly involving people all called 'anonymous'. A hat trick for a player low in confidence, a 4-0 away win, and going back to the top of a league championship on a knife edge are all superb. Anyone who thinks differently needs to smell the coffee.

Paul - the content of your site is usually excellent (today is an exception but you're not to blame for that) - but as I've asked before, is there any way you could look at the design of your site. Having to scroll through 100+ comments, about half of which are made by an anonymous poster, does the site no justice. Also previous topics effectively get abandoned the minute a new one appears. I realise it wouldn't be easy and I for one would not wish to see the site eveolve into something similar to the others available.

I see Quinn is making positive noises today about keeping Bellamy. He also says something that confuses me. Perhaps one of the more financially tuned-in readers can clarify. He claims that O'Neill has had money to spend, but he's spent much of it renewing contracts. Surely unless these contracts are improved, there is no increase in expenditure, and therefore no additional money spent?

To all the part time supporters, when you decide to leave 15 mins from the end, please leave immediately, don't decide to stand in the stairways because we are on the attack and block us fulltime supporters views. Granted I have not enjoyed all the matches this year but I am in my seat at the end of every game, the team needs supporting not jeering booing and half empty stadium each home game.
Another point for the part timers would you pay £20-25 at the cinema and leave 15 mins before the end? No? why leave CP then???

I don't think we are giving the players enough credit for last nights result. Remember Livi are fighting for their lives, it was away from home, a 4-0 win. OK the football wasn't pretty but it was the first league game after the defeat against Hearts so nerves played a part. With the Huns getting beat it shows how much the other teams are fighting. It is after all 11 against 11.

Bobby Ewing, your stats make stark reading. That Chelsea have found it so easy to win the league this season tells it’s own story.

Taggsybhoy, was in a meeting all day today. Got your email, thanks and will reply.

Cambuslangisareality, Taggsybhoy has booked a Celtic Quick News Open Golf day at Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 15th July. I have not published anything yet, however, the date is in the diary and an open invite to all will be published in the next few days.

Plan is for a round of Golf in the afternoon followed by a dinner with speakers. I am not a golfer myself & I expect some others will want to come along for the dinner etc. There will be a bus picking up in the West. Hope you come along.

Old Jack Section 123, I know what you mean, but remember, they are not machines, and even though they are better players than their opponents, every Livingston player is a fulltime professional who will be equally fit, if not fitter, than the Celtic players.

At times, especially away from home, this will mean grinding out performances.

Neg Anon, I watched the Rangers United game on TV last night & they were really dreadful. I think Martin will plan not to make any defensive mistakes and wait on them making them.

Great to hear from you in such positive tones!

Derbyshirebhoy, I know where you are coming from and I am not going to argue with you, but… the man has just scored a hat-trick and now is the time for us to respect what he done last night and support them all until the end of the season.

Excellent comment. I cannot believe what is said about the ‘good old days’ sometimes (and I am not meaning the Stein era, I mean when we played pretty, but ineffective football).

Rumoid, voice of reason as usual.

    Thedominie, excellent Fashanu story.

HT, thanks for your studious contributions today. I will change my assessment of the gradient.

Cdmcc, the £47k mentioned in the interim accounts for Petta represents his wages for the month of January. When we parted with him in November we paid him up until the end of Jan. Not a bad settlement for a player who was under contract and did not have a club to go to.

MON will not leave mid-season. Agree not every pound has been well spent, it’s not easy doing the big job.

Bryce, keeping the tone of the site positive on an ongoing basis will be difficult, especially when people take criticisms personally.

I posted a (short) story on Saturday just to change the debate away from religion, which was boring us all I am sure.

The site design has more to do with what you get for free with Blogger than a considered plan, not sure of a good way to improve things.

What I am sure of, is that the site will fail if the good contributors do not step in and keep the tone of things regulated. For this, thanks to all.

Garbhoy, I have been out of commission today, this is the first I have heard of the Glazer bid. I expect it to go through and do not expect his to look to Celtic.

    Thanks.
