Well that would be halfway to my prediction of 10 million. Here's hoping.
-
Looks like ill have to thank all you season book holders for maybe signing Mr Bellamy ;)
On a different note, noticed on bbc website that Freddie Shepard wants him back training on June 22nd. Is there any possibility we could move for him before then if he does want to stay? (which i dont think is likely).
Also any news on whats happening during the summer months regarding America
Paul, some of us are getting older quicker than others.
Is it the CQN audience giving you the grey hairs, i wonder?
-
Paul67,it started at 25 million being mentioned for a summer spend, then 20 million, then 15 million, now we are down to 5 million!Unless i have read your latest post wrong?
NegAnon you are the only one with 100% credibility on this site,Keep it up.

Sorry I'm not an accountant, I just don't get the argument, The taxman will always need paying, there is always a may payroll run and you always need to pay suppliers (We have a new strip every June!!)this should have been budgeted for long before now, you shouldn't be depending on next years budget to pay bills from this year thats how to go out of business.
-
anon 7.31 I dont really get it either...
guys freddy shepherd is definitely up to no good here.
My theory is that he wants Bellamy to refuse to train and that will sever him from the Newcastle fans.
-
Anon 5.09 - I think what Paul67 is trying to say is that the £4.9 million spend over this short period would directly effect the capital available to MON.
He doesn't say it is all the monies that are available, just that any DIFFERENCE in income and expenditure during this period would be refelected in the transfer budget.
From my understanding of the threads over the last few months, the debate has been, will we spend all of the available money and bank facility in one swoop this summer, as happened in 2000, or will it be dripped in over the next few seasons?
The information, which is available to everyone of us, but interpreted by Paul67, clearly shows the funds, through reduction of amortisation and spending, which can be used. We are moving away from the Banking constraints and onto a period of strategic decision making.
Please lets not all start demanding a £20 million spend this summer and certainly, lets not be dispappointed if its considerably less.
A number of people have complained about our apparent lack of activity in the 'Bosman' market but still want us to 'spend big'.
I am sure that the strategy, which is down to the board and MON, will have a healthy mixture. Lets judge on the quality of signings not the amount of spend.
Finally, Dave Whelan, Chairman of Wigan, has already stated that they will have £25 million to spend in the summer. Paul Jewel can't move for agents trying to sell him players that have 'always wanted to play for Wigan'.
I am surprised at a man like Whelan publicly stating what their budget is. Are they going to get value for money or pay over the odds?
I think we have had our share of expensive mistakes, personally I hope we sign Bellamy (or someone of that standing) and the rest are Bosmans or £300k Lubo's.
Quality not Cost

Mon would at least have to purchase or attain on bosmans.
Bellamy
a left back
an attacking midfielder
a goalkeeper.
The introduction of youth to the pool and the aquirement of a few good players with pace added to the experience in the sqaud that will see us hopefully go that extra mile in the champions league.

agree with above sentiments-Rammiebhoy that is. Bellamy at £6m, two at £3m a piece or 3 at £2m in the right market-Germany or Poland maybe and one or two Bosmans. If only half of those work then the team is transformed.
On another note whilst it would be sad to see him go if £8m came for Stan (and £4m for Bobo-tha'sa no-brainer) then MON really could have a big pot to play with. Who do you replace Stan with for £8m. You would look for a quality younger version and not play him at right-back would be my shout.
anon 8.23-not enough quality in midfield for my liking.
-
Paul,
As far as I can see all you are saying is that during this period we have a lot of outgoings which means we have to utilise our overdraft facility.
This makes our account look bad by implying we need to borrow an awful lot of money. By moving the season book payment forward 10 days we are smooothing the dip in the balance sheet which makes the picture look more rosy when we prepare budgets and speak to the bank about our spending plans (as they sanction them).
Any business can play with their balance sheet by not paying liabilities but I suspect Celtic's are contractually set dates (esp suppliers eg umbro) that would have associated penalties.
The overall effect is that if we wanted to spend during or budget for future spend i.e next season during that period we need an overdraft extension.
Simple as that????
-
Joe in Perth, You are getting it completely wrong.
The earlier posts were about what happens when you spend £20million on players who sign 4 year contracts; specifically the Profit & Loss account is charged £5million per year, which Celtic can afford now and still break even.
I must have explained this about 30 times, is it really my credibility that should be questioned when you are making statements like this? Or would you rather no-one explained these things to Celtic fans?
And for the last time, I have never said what Celtic would do this summer, only what the accounts would allow them to do.
Anon 7.31, the point is:
If the money comes in after these bills are paid the debt figure will peak £4.9million higher than it will if the money comes in first.
The profitability is there for a big spend, the biggest constraint is cash. This move will create £4.9million of space for Martin to spend.
Thanks rammiebhoy for the additional explaination.
Anon 8.23, I'll read over this later.
-
If I was Dermot Desmond I'd ask everyone to pay earlier every year - the money comes in with the promise of pie on the sky singings which will never materialise. How many times do we have to be made mugs of before we realise we're just Desmond's plaything?
-
On a different note, if you visit www.punchaceleb.com you can hav a go at a few huns like mcleish rickson and ferguson.
-
Paul I do not follow your financial argument, any large business will operate with cash flow fluxuations which are influenced by market and current trading conditions. Cash flow in the summer months will be lower than the rest of the year. I would hope that our business forecasts (new sponsership, champions league entry, season ticket renewals) will enable our finance department to cope with these standard trading elements using our bank facilities. Celtic Football Club is a business which operates for twelve months of the year with tax bills and salaries factored into that time scale. If you are suggesting that we will be skint by the 20th May then there is not much hope for the future.
-
Paul
What difference does it make to have the season book renewals in for 20th, they arent asking for the money till july. Isn`t this just another ploy from the board to get us to renew using false promises as to what the money will be spent on?
-
Anon 9:30, an explination on how exaclty Celtic are Dermott Desmonds plaything would be appreciated
-
Jack and Anon 10.09
The debt peaks before the season book money comes in during May. In the summer months the club is flush with money, problem is, it earns relatively little cash for the rest of the season.
From my own forecast, debt will be around £7million below the £36million facility if the money comes in on the last day in May, and £12million below if the money comes in on the 20th May.
As for the comment on Desmond, the club have spent more than they have earned for six consecutive years now. Who are you getting your financial information from?
This is the time for Celtic fans to unite behind the entire club, players, manager and the rest.
If we do not, we will be the ones who hurt the most.
-
Articles like this are enough to give most Celtic fans the big-time boak
We are sick of it - the smoke and mirrors of the boards financial gymnastics
Of perpetual sackcloth and ashes while drowning in a sea of cash from
The now increasingly sceptical Celtic support
Lets get some facts together here since Seville in the summer of 2003
Celtic have brought in £109,000,000 (YES ONE HUNDRED & NINE MILLION!!!)
To the 1st of January 2005
Spending in that 18 months on transfers is less than £3,000,000!
Now you don’t need to be qualified accountant to see that there is a
MAJOR problem here as vast sums of money pour into the clubs buscuit tin
Yet crumbs are thrown at mon to spend in the transfer market
Has the biscuit tin been subjected to weird scientific experiments?
And has now torn a rent in the space-time continuum so much so that
A BLACK HOLE now lives within it and no matter How much cash is thrown
at it by the Celtic fans ALL is consumed in its infinite darkness
As the money disappears into this ultimate conundrum
I think we should be told the truth...
The recent moves by the board don’t look like they are going to try
And rescue the situation anytime soon either
As "nae money" Quinn's reputation sank into the gutter after the
Mobile phone and half time gaffs who do we get to replace him
But a T Mobile director known in his former workplace as Frugal McDougall
And a politician well known for his ability to fend off awkward questions
The fact that his last job in government was as the minister for Iraq's
Reconstruction (there to help as many British companies as possible get
Their snouts into Iraq's reconstruction boom)
Lets put all the cards on the table Celtic aren't getting a single penny
From me for my season ticket renewal until the dressing room is jam packed
With new QUALITY signings and if there aren't any then I wont be renewing
I don’t think im alone in this feeling either
The fact that you actually had to come out with this article tells
Me that the punters are wising up and renewal subscriptions have fallen
Off a cliff as the punters are sick of the board shady antics
Here's hoping that the suits starts to contemplate the fact they might
Have to spend some money on players for a change as the stewardship of
OUR money is what they have been employed for in case they have forgotten
What its really all about in their luxurious surroundings
The board ALREADY have plenty of money if they don’t spend it
Then we wont give them anymore
Sadly I personally fear for Celtics future under this current board ....
-
Hi Paul and all
Im with the confused people on this one...as far as I can see; whether we recieve it ten days earlier or later doesnt really make that much difference to MON's budget;
The effects of recieving the money earlier:
The ability to pay the bills (Bellamy fee hopefully)...without going deep into the red..
which as a consequece
reduces the level of interest being paid...
and also
reduces the highest peak of debt in the finacial year
Now reducing interest is easily understood...
With regards to the debt levels; Are you suggesting that by reducing the level of current debt we may be proving that our working capital requirement is reduced and therefore we give more re-assurance to the bank that they can give us an extra big facility for MON (to blow on premiership players!!)...Then i get it..
Why this gives evidence of an extra spend confuses me...Unless MON is really keen to beat the rush with his transfer targets...(I doubt this very much)..
-
does every one here really want to see Celtic sign bellamy if it means we cannot buy any others players?? that would result in bosmans and "frees" and we all know how poor MON is at signing players with little cash. i would prefer to gamble on an up and coming Dutch/German/Scandinavian player, as well as spending £5mill on two decent players for the sieve and sticks. lets face the truth, that if we are to achieve the heights of seville, then we need more than one player in Bellamy.
Yours in "Total Commitment" Dav1888

Anon 10.48
If we have taken in £109m in 18months, then we have spent £60m on wages, plus your £3m on players. So we are down to £46m over your 18months before we even start talking seriously. Add Amortisation charges, other operating costs, tax, etc etc etc and we could easily detsroy your argument.
If you can add the Turnover for 18mths read a few lines down the accounts and do the same with the rest.
If anyone needs to take a bit more responsibility it's MON as the wages to turnover ratio needs to be reduced.
We have won 3 of the last 4 leagues and are 6pts away from another.
Go on, give us a laugh and tell us what you would do? My guess is you read the Record my friend and believe their lies. Everyone is out to get you eh?
-
Anon 10:48, you must be on the wind up??
A financial black hole? Evey penny of the clubs income and expenditure is detailed in the clubs ANNUAL AUDITED ACCOUNTS!!
If you care to go to the celtic website and look them up, you will find that the club HAS overspent for the past 6 years, as Paul67 continues to proclaim.
Now I understand what "talking to a brick wall" really means.
-
Anonymous 10.48 you are wrong. The kind of post you have just written comes from people who listen to, or read, the comments of tabloid journalists These guys have the easiest job in the world right now. It has been apparent for years that we do not bring in enough money yet these so called experts go on the radio or write in their rags about ‘the biscuit tin’ and people like you fall for it. These are the same ‘journalists’ that were kicking rangers for overspending.
Sensible fans know that we cannot go out and spend millions. I actually phoned one of the Clyde phone-ins at the start of last season, when they were banging on about Larsson leaving and their being no replacement lined up, to ask who we could buy within our budget to replace him. The answer I got was that they dind’t know and, anyway, it wasn’t their job to identify targets for Celtic. Think about it, these guys spend their lives talking and writing about football yet they know feck all. Hugh Keevins, for it was he, ended the show by summarising that I had said it didn’t matter that Larsson was leaving i.e. he totally ignored the point I was trying to make. The only reason the radio didn’t go through the window was that I was in my in-laws.
-
Rab1888 - we're Desmond's plaything because he puts nothing in but uses our club for his own ends. We're the only club in Europe with a billionaire chairman who puts nothing in. I'd rather we were skint and in control ourselves than be skint and patronised by the likes of him and Quinn.
-
Anon 1134
Desmond ,as far as i know, cannot invest into us massive sums, as this would be against shareholder and stock exchange rules concerning investment. I am sure this is the case as I have read it outlined on this site many times with people with far more understanding of financial accounts as well as from my recent studies.
If we want people to be able to invest in the club a la Murray we then have to go back to being a private company and the problems that that entails.

Anon 11:34
You seem to miss the point about our club and others like Rankers.
If Dermot Desmond wants to put more money into our club, he has to get something in return...he has to BUY something. If he buys something (Shares...not much else!!) then he gets to the point where he must make a statement on buying the club or not!
Whether he even wants to run a club as his main source of business may not even be the main point! (I would hazard a guess at he doesn't or he would have already done so!)
With all the stuff at Man U with Glazer, he may be waiting on his buddies JP etc to see what they are going to do.
On another point, I am sure he didn't amass £800m by giving away £20M here and there!!!

Anon 11.34
"Uses the club to his own ends" What might they be.
"Billionaire chairman" No, he is the single largest shareholder.
So, the petted lip is because DD is a rich man who doesn't throw his money at the club? Where does that sort of argument end...with every supporter having to declare their earnings and you then stating how much they should donate to Celtic?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him chuck a few million our way, but it doesn't always work out that way. At least DD isn't theiving from the club like the Kellys/Whites.
I'd rather see Celtic's future secured by having a sound and practical financial plan than relying on handouts from a 'Sugar Daddy'.
By the way, I think you'll find DD's investment is currently worth about 20% of his initial outlay.

We always tend to think of Football as a Special case, however now more than ever before football clubs are businesses and have to abide by the contraints any other business is under. However here's the problem, while clubs are run as businesses they cannot break free of the false market limitatin thrust upon them by geography, and EUFA. So we are for the timebing stuck in the SPL, and this market is going nowhere.
On the whole the clubs of the SPL carry too much debt, and having made a coos arse of the TV deal this revenue stream has been stunted.
I fear that in tehnot too distant future preofessinal football in Scotland will be bankrupt and where to after that?
-
Im stunned
Back to basics, it is irrelevant how much the club turnover is, it's profit that matters.
Nobody is disputing that the turnover has risen and everyone is playing their part by purchasing merchandise, tickets etc...
The biggest factor is COST. Our salary budget is one of the highest in the UK. Do not believe for a minute that this is just down to the peripheral players such as Sylla and Fernandez, it's also down to players like BBJ, Sutton Thompson etc... thats right, the ones who tell the papers that Celtic should spend more money or more players.
Celtic have made a loss over the past few years, even with Seville.
If you want to see smoke and mirrors, look towards that shower in Govan. Bloody hell, they have one of those very rich chairman who has sold everything from names on seats to bricks in walls and he still has to instigate a £50 million share issue which the 'supporters' contributed about £1 million. He has had to underwrite the rest. Guess what, the debt is still there, just in another form.
I really don't understand what certain individuals are missing here. We talk about transfer budgets and it always quickly comes back to personal attacks on Board members who are TOLD that they should dip into their pocket even more. I am sure nobody on this board would allow themselves to being bullied into spending their hard earned cash in a way that the rest of us saw fit.
It is irrelevant how much anyone is 'worth', how they spend it is their business.
The accounts are there to be viewed.
Anon. 11.34 - You would rather we owned the club and be skint? Crack on, shares are available on the open market.
Turnover is vanity, we can only work in the markets that we exist in, at any given time. At the moment that is the SPL, our cloth is cut.
When the market changes or we collectively realise that we can make £millions more profit if we only did X (e.g. sponsor for the stadium)then I'm sure the expenditure will reflect this.
Paul67, still of the opinion that there may be a link should Glazer be successful? I believe they are expecting the approach in the next 7 days due to time limits.
-
Can we get a spelchekker on this shite please.
-
Paul,
How do you see any potential transfers panning out this close season from the information that you have provided today? Is it a case of the early bird catches all the worms or will the club avoid paying un-necessary summer wages?
I have seen from previous posts that The Cousin, The Mole and The Insider have raised various 'potential' transfer targets, or have heard through their auntie's cousin about signings, but a couple of the players mentioned by them have appeared on the www.football-rumours.com website alongwith Artur Boruc and Marek Kulic.
Does anyone know anything about these other two guys and if there is any substance to the rumour?
One way or another the summer break is going to throw the rumour mill into meltdown, but that's what keeps us going over June and July.
Wullie Gordon
-
Wullie Gordon, in terms of new names I know nothing.
I know they have earmarked £5.5million for Bellamy and are looking for at least 4 players on top of this. Several factors will determine transfer fees, not only season book renewals, but salary costs for next season.
They are also hoping to bring in more commercial income.
-
Apologies for breaking the thread folks.
Today is the 20th anniversy of the Bradford City fire tragedy. As fellow football fans please give a moment to remember the victims, heroes & survivors of this horrific tragedy.
Sadly it took many deaths in the 80's to give us the stadiums we can safely take our kids to today.
Now back to the debate....
Thank-you.
-
There's a few hysterical posts on here. C'mon lads if your a real fan support the club at all costs. If we only have £5 million to spend in the summer then so be it, if it's £20 million then great. You can only spend what you have - so if we don't have it, then we won't spend it - if we do have it - we will. Maybe these hysterical punters follow the latter rule - making a Larry's laminate Land salary pay for a 4 bedroomed house & a Mercedes Jeep!

-
Wullie Gordon,
Artur Boruc is a 25 year old Legia Warsaw goalkeeper who has just broken into the Polish national side. He is 6 foot 5 inches, but don't know much more about him. The fact that Poland are now in the EU means that we wouldn't have to get a work permit for him.
Marek Kulic plays in the Czech League for Budejovice. He is probably most famous over here for scoring against Aston Villa in the Intertoto Cup last year. He is a striker who has scored 5 goals this season. Could be a recommendation of Lubo or Dr Jo, IF it is indeed true. (That is a major IF). Again we wouldn't require a permit for him.

Sorry Paul
Do not understand your logic here! How does this increase the budget by paying 11 days early. This is a pure timing issue. i.e receive the funds on 20 May, rather than 31 May. So good idea for cashflow purposes. Mr McCann did this (early renewals)when he was selling his shares to improve the cash of his business on paper(despite there also being an equal and opposite liability to provide a service, This tends to get ignored).
You also seem to have overlooked the fact that we can renew without having to pay immediately.
So again a bit puzzled by this latest post.
-
Oh dear – it’s the silly season again – even if DD had any inclination of investing any more money into the club the amount of personal abuse he takes from the majority and it is a majority of season ticket holders would surely make him think again.
Fergus McCann, DD, Brian Quinn, you bhoys take one hell of a beating J
-
also meant to say:
When I first read this, I thought I was on the renewals page for the official website. Did Brian Quinn or his beancounter break in and leave this message under your name- Quick renew now, you know it makes sense even Paul says so!
Having said that I will be renewing over next couple of days for the 10th consecutive season (including the Hampden Year. Yes still painful that year) and as usual everything has an addditional admin/processing fee attached to it nowadays.
As I said before, when you were dreaming of a £20m pot been spent (many months ago), It is time for the board to show us their ambition and actual some strategy (and some risk).
A lot of bagagge and associated costs should be offloaded in the summer.
So no excuses for not making funds available, if we want to be back to the dizzy heights of Seville!
In addition, MON needs to prove he is a great manager (not just good) and invest wisely in this re-building process!
Seville is 2 years ago. Do not know about you, but feels a lot longer!!
-
Once again we are at each others throats on what is a very important (but emotional) subject for the fans.
Maybe it would be a good thing to keep the rhetoric reasonable and stay away from wild accusations and personal attacks.
Funny how the Anons. seem to increase and be on the more accusatory side of things on certain "hot" topics. Or is that another Celtic paranoid conspiracy theory?
As not one person on this site actually knows what MON's budget might be for next year, consider that each of our opinions might just be wrong.
-
CanajunBhoy, dont understand your last post. Me posting as Anon and you posting as canajunBhoy are no different. WE STILL DONT KNOW EACH OTHER FROM ADAM! Maybe all Anon poster`s are still trying to think of great alliase`s like your`s. Come on mate get a grip.

Canjun Bhoy has made a very valid point.
Coming on here for a lively debate is one thing, but bickering and oneupmanship is another.
There have been a lot of posts lately with no name or nom de plume left on them which could mean it could be a valid supporter or someone at the wind up.
Come on Bhoys, if you are going to contribute then at least put a handle on your jug.

Hi,
I for one do not care how much a player costs, so long as he can produce the goods on the park. The team does need some freshening up - in order to produce a new 'core' of players who can help us through the next 5 years or so. In my opinion Bellamy is a must as he has prooved (and we have witnessed) the impact he makes on the team, his goal threat is immense! Releasing many players such as Joos, Douglas, Hedman, Sylla, Fernandez as well as selling Balde and Hartson could provide the funds for high quality new aquisitions as would new stadium sponsors.
If i may propose some names (most i believe you will be familliar with)
Bellamy, Diamond, Hartley, Boruc - seem more likely than not to arrive.
Should Petrov be sold (god forbid) the likes of Nico Kranjcar, Scott Parker should be sought as replacements.
In an ideal world keeping Petrov, and adding his 'best man' (Dimitar Berbatov) would make for an exciting strike parnership with Craig Bellamy!!
Either way lets back whatever we do in whatever way we can!!

Evening Paul, fellow tims.
Don't really see what the issue is here.
Way I see it, it is quite simple.
Renewals are due by a certain date.
You either take them up or you don't. If you don't someone else will. And the ones who don't are the only ones who will miss out.
And if some of the carping about this is anything to go by.It would be better if some of you didn't renew.Leave the tickets for someone who truly wants to go and support the team.
You don't know how lucky you are to have one,and be able to use it, in the first place.

Rammiebhoy,Thanks for letting me understand,it was very clear what was ment by Paul67 in the first few lines of your post.

Mmmmmm - a couple of things spring to mind.
Firstly, like many others, I'm a bit confused by your logic - short term usage of credit facilities should not make any difference to longer term spend.
If I didn't know any better I'd say this call to arms is a bit cynical (though the board will be delighted by the timing)!
As you know I don't quite agree that all the money has been spent (some strange reserves spring to mind).
It is indeed interesting that you have not mentioned what you expect the spend to be this summer Paul. I know you never promised the £20M (you were hoping) and you have indicated the board have opted for a "long" spend. But its interesting that you are no longer speculating.
I strongly suspect the board will tighten those purse strings further.
HOWEVER - we should buy the season tickets, it gives us the legitimacy to bring the board down when the realisation dawns at the start of the new season.....it won't be pretty.
On a few other points - DD has lost money on his investments but he is making a healthy dividend from our skint club. He has a bigger game to play - buy low and sell high.
I think after the lack of spending in the last few years the support have the right to be cynical and cautious - that is NOT the same as being disloyal.
Finally I always laugh when celtic fans criticise the media and then join in the "all you anons are paranoid. Whats it to be? I firmly believe that this country and in particular the media of this country are institutionally sectarian. In short they are out to get us. Yet we are accused by fellow supporters of buying the media spin. There is no need for media spin - the lack of investment in the club is breathtaking.
-
Bhoyobhoy, if the money comes in 11 days early the debt will peak at circa £5million less, creating £5million more space within the existing borrowing requirement.
In terms of when the money arrives, my credit card has already been charged.
Agree, Seville feels a long time ago.
Joe from Perth, always welcome.
Neg Anon
I am sniffing about the budget at the moment. I am told it is not concluded yet.
In terms of the media:
We should not expect them to have a pro Celtic agenda. What Celtic need to do is find ways to winning control of the media agenda, which some clubs do very well.
As Stephen Connelly said, lets keep things cordial.
-
Paul is talking about the PEAK debt figure.
The debt of the club is at its peak at the end of the season i.e now.
When the season book money comes in the debt will be brought down dramatically.
We are to pay out 5 million, this will increase the PEAK debt figure by 5 Million.
However if we recieve the season book money before this 5 million is to be paid out, then the debt figure doesnt PEAK as highly as otherwise.
To put it easier, if u are a £100 overdrawn at the bank and have a direct debit for £20 due to come off, then your overdraft will go to £110. If you pay in a cheque for £50 before this direct debit comes off then your overdraft will be only £70 after the payment.
Your overdraft PEAKED at £100 rather than the £110 it would have been had you paid in the cheque after the payment was made
Jhon
-
Paul,
Ok - I'll wait on your analysis.
On the media point. To a large degree it is impossible for Celtic to control the media - its far to anti celtic for any rational view to be taken. However Celtic has its own media - which, if used well will mean we no longer need to rely on "old" methods for news.
If only they would learn how to use it eh!
-
Negative Anon. I agree with your assessment of the Scottish media. However there is no point in complaining to the media, it's always turned around to our paranoia.
Without talking about religion, bigatory or sectarianism, what are their motives, where are their ethics and what should we expect?
For commercial media channels, there isn't much you can do, they can take any positin they like, you just have to choose not to choose that particular media.
On teh other hand, the BBC (includinf Scotland) we hve no choice but to buy through our licence fees. These channels are answerable to a code of ethics:
From the BBC's policy and values: "Trust is the foundation of the BBC: we are independent, impartial and honest" Seems this doesn't apply in Scotland.
Nother point I've mentioned before, is the use of of agents and jouranlists as radio broadcasters and pundits. It can't be ethical. e.g. Gordon Smith giving opinion on a player who's agent is er. Gordon Smith.. is it in his interest to big him up? Of course it is; or Jim Traynor doing a phone in on a Saturday evening, IMO laughing up his sleave at all the punters who call in. Do you think Jim knows the stories which his paper is to break in a Monday, or that the sister paper will break the next day? You bet he does.
I don't think either of these situations fits into the standards published by the BBC themselves. I've no problem with teh same people being given access to teh media, but acting as the Agent, or as the Journalist, then we know their bias. In the main they are acting as impartial when it is not in their interest to be impartial.
This insults everyone, who pays their licence fee.

Apologies
Read £120 where it says £110.

Must agree with on this one Negative Anon,if this Board doesn't get outside money to invest, then in this modern day of business it's time we had the Carers of the Club move aside and let somebody who can.
They may have the money in the Club but don't forget we voted with our hands and feet to get the last lot out, wasn't that hard, was it?
I do believe that we should give The Board at least another few years(It will come a lot,lot sooner than anyone thinks)
We may still be a bit behind the likes of Barca,Inter,AC,Real, Bayern, Arsenal, etc when it comes to money(this includes the likes of Wigan FC also)
But I do think the Board are finally jumping on the gravey train which is called commerialism in modern day Football.
Yes we hate it but we also know that it's the only way to keep up with the Jones's in European Football.
We only hope that The Board(and Manager) can learn from their mistakes and make the Club into the great thing we know it can be around the globe.
Thinking in the square is just as equal to thinking out the square Paul67
(J*sus,I'm starting sound like my Therapist)
Keep up all the positive thoughts Paul67,I know most of them are coming true, only wish more could think more long term.
Hello to all the New CQN posters.

Paul67 you said “I know they have earmarked £5.5million for Bellamy and are looking for at least 4 players on top of this”. But given that about 7 players will possibly be leaving (Sylla
Fernandez Hedman Valgaren Lambert Douglas Hencho) in real terms we will be 2 down if only 4 come in. Okay we could get more from the younger players there already but we have seen (every time we look at the bench and think who we could bring in who would make an immediate impact) that the squad is thin enough.
I have said before Chelsea try to run with a 22 player squad we would be looking at 19 -20 players who would be 1st team players and are putting pressure on themselves and team mates to play.
As always I await the close season with hopefully anticipation of the players who will make the difference.
Paul67 any thoughts as to the potential budget for Rangers?

Some weeks ago you were telling us that amortisation was the key to spending. Now you're finally getting round to talking about cash flow but I think your assumptions are flaky to say the least.
Have you factored in bonus payments to players for winning the SPL and the Scottish cup? These could be major outlays in the next few weeks.
You don't give any reason as to why a cheque for £1.7m is being cashed by the IR on 20 May. What is this payment relating to?
How many season book holders pay on direct debit? I'd say plenty of them. If this is the case then Celtic won't be receiving nearly 70% of the cash until September to November which kind of weakens your case.
I think you would be better off pointing out which of the information in your articles is fact and which is your own speculation. Not doing this seems to defeat your original intention for the site......... not lazy journalism.

On the subject of the media I gave an interview today to the Daily Record about Celtic Quick News/football clubs and communications.
I’ve got a positive story to tell along these lines this week that they were keen to follow up.
It's all about engaging the media positively.
-
You'll need to publish it on here, as no one on this forum buy's that mince, do they?
I'd have been far happier if it had been the Scotsman or Herald but for now you can have the benefit of the doubt!!!
Hail Hail and keep up the good work!!
Yours in Celtic

Paul67, I have no beef with the commercial media. Thay take their position and it's there for all to see; it's like the Sally Army selling papers around the pubs, you don't expect to see any topless wumin, or read the latest football news, or papers with an editorial bias for or against a political party. It's usually there for the reader to decide, and if you don't like it you don't buy it.
The BBC on the other hand has a duty to be impartial and in Scotland it's not. I've stated above that without bringing religion into it they fail to meet their own standards of conduct.
Still, you'll have to copy your Daily Record interview into the Blog so we can read it, I only get the NME.

Right i have held a season ticket at CP before they put seats in the old jungle (when they first made them available for the ground), i have lived thought the White & Kelly era when they abused the club.
I for one welcome DD into CP and other celtic minded people, so be careful what you wish for.
Then again we could have the Mint in-charge of our club, would that make some of you happy?
The money that celtic make gets spent on celtic things, if folk dont believe this then thay should report this to the stock market as it is against the law for directors of a PLC to rip-off the other shareholders,
If you dont what to renew your season book then fine thats up to you, but get a grip for feck sake .
rant over.
Hail Hail

The Daily Record?
Engaging postively??
Have Celtic football club not been trying to do this for years?
It smells of a sell out to me...
-
Beware of "red tops" Paul. They have been known to print stories that bare little similarity to the interview given.
-
So some will say Rumoid. The point of the site is to help Celtic fans gain control of the media agenda.
A risk worth taking? If the media start to report what appears on here then certainly. Celtic Quick News has a limited readership, and if we do not try to spread influence we will remain a small curiosity.
As I say about many things, if you don’t try to you don’t find out.
Point noted CynicalCelt.
-
The only money that celtic will receive from season book renewals before the £5 million spend are those who pay the full amount up front, the others pay a deposit mid june so far too late for the big spend.

Eggs Benedict anyone???
If this story of rangers removing a well known dish from a menu due to the name being the same as the pope's is true then it is a sad day in the fight against bigotory. If it is not true I hope the Sun is taken to court and an apology made before further trouble erupts.
Personnaly I had to laugh
Exuse me while I go and check my kids aren't wearing anything blue!

I hope that it works for you...
There is a reason for the most informative Celtic site being a curiosity though...
and
the same reason also makes the Daily Record the most popular paper in Scotland for Celtic fans...
I hoped you taped your interview...

Interviews with the Daily R***rd, article in Not the View what’s next an advert during emmerdale!!!!!! No that I watch Emmerdale but that wee blonde burd…….
Hopefully you put them straight on a few things both in their reporting of us and the rankers. You will need to post it here as I don’t buy papers, unless we win the league or beat the huns.
More publicity the more chance this site will be taken over by more Anon’s like the one who posted at 10.38 with the uneducated rant on where does the money go.
Maybe im just being a bit it’s my ball and im no playing, but this site feels a bit like it’s my ball and I don’t want bigger bhoys to play with it. It’s an alternative view on Celtic not just another run of the mill Celtic site.
Ach im just being selfish good luck to you if you CQN to become a monster so be it but always remember the original posters who have made this site what it is
Need to go Emmerdale’s on in……………
-
Wonder why the most critical mails posted on this site damning Celtic's finacies, transfer dealings and DD in particular always seem to be anonymous, we had something similar an few weeks ago.
Anyone else smell huns here??
-
unless you know the person then everyone is anonymous, we don't all have fancy/ridiculous names. It doesn't make us ranker supporters
-
Can't believe what some people come up with when they post on here!!
The anon this morning refusing to buy his season ticket until he is lavished with quality signings.Trust me mate, don't renew.I'll be happy to be sitting in your seat next season and i'll pay today to get it!!!
As someone who had to give up their season ticket previously I know how much you will miss it and how quickly you will wish you hadn't been so stupid to give it up in the first palce.
CelticBhoy,I see what you are saying in terms of numbers possibly being two down, but that depends on how you define a member of the squad.
My definition would really be playing games, which effectively rules out Sylla and Fernandez for the best part of two years in terms of their usefulness to the club.We never knew they were there so we won't miss them when they are gone. For what it's worth,a tighter squad with superior quality would suit me fine.
Paul, your move to extend the readership of this site is bold. You had mentioned previously that you had one or two ideas but this one took me by surprise. However, you have a vision for what you want this site to become and sometimes you need to take risks to get where you want to go.I hope it works out.
Oregonbhoy
The fact of the matter is that there are many Celtic fans, due to a lack of understanding or ignorance, who will constantly have a go at the board for the lack of spending or anything at all really.Have a look at a few of the other Celtic sites on the web for proof of this.
At the end of the day,a lack of understanding is one thing but ignoring the facts when presented with them or twisting them to suit yourself is unforgiveable.I feel this is what some choose to do.Who needs Huns when your fellow fans will do their job for them?

sorry off topic
Greenmaestro- Has the NME improved stopped buying it a few years ago due the rubbish they were trying to pan of as the next big thing.
Also do the journos still write like they are failed musicians jealous of the bands?
-
I am certain that Paul did not approach the D.R. for an interview, rather they approached him.
To me this is an opportunity to get across some of the commonly held opinions of this excellent site.
Rather than slate Paul for this I commend him for taking the chance and the risk (that they will skew the statements) in trying to influence a principal player in the mass media.
For example maybe the results of the stadium naming vote will get more publicity, maybe not.
Good on you Paul.
Hopefully your flak jacket will be more required for enemy fire than friendly fire.
-
Oregonbhoy - I can assure you I am not from the darkside but I think there are some damning things to say.
Paul - I felt a cold shiver down my spine when you said you had spoken to the daily record. Rumoid & Cynicalcelt beat me to it - hope you taped it. They are simply not to be trusted.
Anon at 4.55 - be wary of what accounts can tell you - its a black art.
Greenmaestro - agree with your synopsis with one exception. Sadly you cannot separate the bigotry from the media. Don't forget the BBC would not employ a catholic until the 50's and the printed media has always spurned catholics. Of course it will be called paranoia - how else can the disguise it - and to be fair many of them probably don't even realise it (its just the way they are).
I would never complain to the media - waste of effort.
The point is - as time goes on - the oldstream media will start to become an irrelevance.
NE Bhoy - I haven't read the Eggs Benedict story - but its the latest in a long line - Green crisp packets, green seats, Peperami etc etc. The media portray this as fun - but its simply bigotry - we know it, they know it but we don't speak of it. Rangers are sectarian to the core - its their Raison Detre.
