Well that would be halfway to my prediction of 10 million. Here's hoping.
-
Looks like ill have to thank all you season book holders for maybe signing Mr Bellamy ;)
On a different note, noticed on bbc website that Freddie Shepard wants him back training on June 22nd. Is there any possibility we could move for him before then if he does want to stay? (which i dont think is likely).
Also any news on whats happening during the summer months regarding America
Paul, some of us are getting older quicker than others.
Is it the CQN audience giving you the grey hairs, i wonder?
-
Paul67,it started at 25 million being mentioned for a summer spend, then 20 million, then 15 million, now we are down to 5 million!Unless i have read your latest post wrong?
NegAnon you are the only one with 100% credibility on this site,Keep it up.

Sorry I'm not an accountant, I just don't get the argument, The taxman will always need paying, there is always a may payroll run and you always need to pay suppliers (We have a new strip every June!!)this should have been budgeted for long before now, you shouldn't be depending on next years budget to pay bills from this year thats how to go out of business.
-
anon 7.31 I dont really get it either...
guys freddy shepherd is definitely up to no good here.
My theory is that he wants Bellamy to refuse to train and that will sever him from the Newcastle fans.
-
Anon 5.09 - I think what Paul67 is trying to say is that the £4.9 million spend over this short period would directly effect the capital available to MON.
He doesn't say it is all the monies that are available, just that any DIFFERENCE in income and expenditure during this period would be refelected in the transfer budget.
From my understanding of the threads over the last few months, the debate has been, will we spend all of the available money and bank facility in one swoop this summer, as happened in 2000, or will it be dripped in over the next few seasons?
The information, which is available to everyone of us, but interpreted by Paul67, clearly shows the funds, through reduction of amortisation and spending, which can be used. We are moving away from the Banking constraints and onto a period of strategic decision making.
Please lets not all start demanding a £20 million spend this summer and certainly, lets not be dispappointed if its considerably less.
A number of people have complained about our apparent lack of activity in the 'Bosman' market but still want us to 'spend big'.
I am sure that the strategy, which is down to the board and MON, will have a healthy mixture. Lets judge on the quality of signings not the amount of spend.
Finally, Dave Whelan, Chairman of Wigan, has already stated that they will have £25 million to spend in the summer. Paul Jewel can't move for agents trying to sell him players that have 'always wanted to play for Wigan'.
I am surprised at a man like Whelan publicly stating what their budget is. Are they going to get value for money or pay over the odds?
I think we have had our share of expensive mistakes, personally I hope we sign Bellamy (or someone of that standing) and the rest are Bosmans or £300k Lubo's.
Quality not Cost

Mon would at least have to purchase or attain on bosmans.
Bellamy
a left back
an attacking midfielder
a goalkeeper.
The introduction of youth to the pool and the aquirement of a few good players with pace added to the experience in the sqaud that will see us hopefully go that extra mile in the champions league.

agree with above sentiments-Rammiebhoy that is. Bellamy at £6m, two at £3m a piece or 3 at £2m in the right market-Germany or Poland maybe and one or two Bosmans. If only half of those work then the team is transformed.
On another note whilst it would be sad to see him go if £8m came for Stan (and £4m for Bobo-tha'sa no-brainer) then MON really could have a big pot to play with. Who do you replace Stan with for £8m. You would look for a quality younger version and not play him at right-back would be my shout.
anon 8.23-not enough quality in midfield for my liking.
-
Paul,
As far as I can see all you are saying is that during this period we have a lot of outgoings which means we have to utilise our overdraft facility.
This makes our account look bad by implying we need to borrow an awful lot of money. By moving the season book payment forward 10 days we are smooothing the dip in the balance sheet which makes the picture look more rosy when we prepare budgets and speak to the bank about our spending plans (as they sanction them).
Any business can play with their balance sheet by not paying liabilities but I suspect Celtic's are contractually set dates (esp suppliers eg umbro) that would have associated penalties.
The overall effect is that if we wanted to spend during or budget for future spend i.e next season during that period we need an overdraft extension.
Simple as that????
-
Joe in Perth, You are getting it completely wrong.
The earlier posts were about what happens when you spend £20million on players who sign 4 year contracts; specifically the Profit & Loss account is charged £5million per year, which Celtic can afford now and still break even.
I must have explained this about 30 times, is it really my credibility that should be questioned when you are making statements like this? Or would you rather no-one explained these things to Celtic fans?
And for the last time, I have never said what Celtic would do this summer, only what the accounts would allow them to do.
Anon 7.31, the point is:
If the money comes in after these bills are paid the debt figure will peak £4.9million higher than it will if the money comes in first.
The profitability is there for a big spend, the biggest constraint is cash. This move will create £4.9million of space for Martin to spend.
Thanks rammiebhoy for the additional explaination.
Anon 8.23, I'll read over this later.
-
If I was Dermot Desmond I'd ask everyone to pay earlier every year - the money comes in with the promise of pie on the sky singings which will never materialise. How many times do we have to be made mugs of before we realise we're just Desmond's plaything?
-
On a different note, if you visit www.punchaceleb.com you can hav a go at a few huns like mcleish rickson and ferguson.
-
Paul I do not follow your financial argument, any large business will operate with cash flow fluxuations which are influenced by market and current trading conditions. Cash flow in the summer months will be lower than the rest of the year. I would hope that our business forecasts (new sponsership, champions league entry, season ticket renewals) will enable our finance department to cope with these standard trading elements using our bank facilities. Celtic Football Club is a business which operates for twelve months of the year with tax bills and salaries factored into that time scale. If you are suggesting that we will be skint by the 20th May then there is not much hope for the future.
-
Paul
What difference does it make to have the season book renewals in for 20th, they arent asking for the money till july. Isn`t this just another ploy from the board to get us to renew using false promises as to what the money will be spent on?
-
Anon 9:30, an explination on how exaclty Celtic are Dermott Desmonds plaything would be appreciated
-
Jack and Anon 10.09
The debt peaks before the season book money comes in during May. In the summer months the club is flush with money, problem is, it earns relatively little cash for the rest of the season.
From my own forecast, debt will be around £7million below the £36million facility if the money comes in on the last day in May, and £12million below if the money comes in on the 20th May.
As for the comment on Desmond, the club have spent more than they have earned for six consecutive years now. Who are you getting your financial information from?
This is the time for Celtic fans to unite behind the entire club, players, manager and the rest.
If we do not, we will be the ones who hurt the most.
-
Articles like this are enough to give most Celtic fans the big-time boak
We are sick of it - the smoke and mirrors of the boards financial gymnastics
Of perpetual sackcloth and ashes while drowning in a sea of cash from
The now increasingly sceptical Celtic support
Lets get some facts together here since Seville in the summer of 2003
Celtic have brought in £109,000,000 (YES ONE HUNDRED & NINE MILLION!!!)
To the 1st of January 2005
Spending in that 18 months on transfers is less than £3,000,000!
Now you don’t need to be qualified accountant to see that there is a
MAJOR problem here as vast sums of money pour into the clubs buscuit tin
Yet crumbs are thrown at mon to spend in the transfer market
Has the biscuit tin been subjected to weird scientific experiments?
And has now torn a rent in the space-time continuum so much so that
A BLACK HOLE now lives within it and no matter How much cash is thrown
at it by the Celtic fans ALL is consumed in its infinite darkness
As the money disappears into this ultimate conundrum
I think we should be told the truth...
The recent moves by the board don’t look like they are going to try
And rescue the situation anytime soon either
As "nae money" Quinn's reputation sank into the gutter after the
Mobile phone and half time gaffs who do we get to replace him
But a T Mobile director known in his former workplace as Frugal McDougall
And a politician well known for his ability to fend off awkward questions
The fact that his last job in government was as the minister for Iraq's
Reconstruction (there to help as many British companies as possible get
Their snouts into Iraq's reconstruction boom)
Lets put all the cards on the table Celtic aren't getting a single penny
From me for my season ticket renewal until the dressing room is jam packed
With new QUALITY signings and if there aren't any then I wont be renewing
I don’t think im alone in this feeling either
The fact that you actually had to come out with this article tells
Me that the punters are wising up and renewal subscriptions have fallen
Off a cliff as the punters are sick of the board shady antics
Here's hoping that the suits starts to contemplate the fact they might
Have to spend some money on players for a change as the stewardship of
OUR money is what they have been employed for in case they have forgotten
What its really all about in their luxurious surroundings
The board ALREADY have plenty of money if they don’t spend it
Then we wont give them anymore
Sadly I personally fear for Celtics future under this current board ....
-
Hi Paul and all
Im with the confused people on this one...as far as I can see; whether we recieve it ten days earlier or later doesnt really make that much difference to MON's budget;
The effects of recieving the money earlier:
The ability to pay the bills (Bellamy fee hopefully)...without going deep into the red..
which as a consequece
reduces the level of interest being paid...
and also
reduces the highest peak of debt in the finacial year
Now reducing interest is easily understood...
With regards to the debt levels; Are you suggesting that by reducing the level of current debt we may be proving that our working capital requirement is reduced and therefore we give more re-assurance to the bank that they can give us an extra big facility for MON (to blow on premiership players!!)...Then i get it..
Why this gives evidence of an extra spend confuses me...Unless MON is really keen to beat the rush with his transfer targets...(I doubt this very much)..
-
does every one here really want to see Celtic sign bellamy if it means we cannot buy any others players?? that would result in bosmans and "frees" and we all know how poor MON is at signing players with little cash. i would prefer to gamble on an up and coming Dutch/German/Scandinavian player, as well as spending £5mill on two decent players for the sieve and sticks. lets face the truth, that if we are to achieve the heights of seville, then we need more than one player in Bellamy.
Yours in "Total Commitment" Dav1888

Anon 10.48
If we have taken in £109m in 18months, then we have spent £60m on wages, plus your £3m on players. So we are down to £46m over your 18months before we even start talking seriously. Add Amortisation charges, other operating costs, tax, etc etc etc and we could easily detsroy your argument.
If you can add the Turnover for 18mths read a few lines down the accounts and do the same with the rest.
If anyone needs to take a bit more responsibility it's MON as the wages to turnover ratio needs to be reduced.
We have won 3 of the last 4 leagues and are 6pts away from another.
Go on, give us a laugh and tell us what you would do? My guess is you read the Record my friend and believe their lies. Everyone is out to get you eh?
-
Anon 10:48, you must be on the wind up??
A financial black hole? Evey penny of the clubs income and expenditure is detailed in the clubs ANNUAL AUDITED ACCOUNTS!!
If you care to go to the celtic website and look them up, you will find that the club HAS overspent for the past 6 years, as Paul67 continues to proclaim.
Now I understand what "talking to a brick wall" really means.
-
Anonymous 10.48 you are wrong. The kind of post you have just written comes from people who listen to, or read, the comments of tabloid journalists These guys have the easiest job in the world right now. It has been apparent for years that we do not bring in enough money yet these so called experts go on the radio or write in their rags about ‘the biscuit tin’ and people like you fall for it. These are the same ‘journalists’ that were kicking rangers for overspending.
Sensible fans know that we cannot go out and spend millions. I actually phoned one of the Clyde phone-ins at the start of last season, when they were banging on about Larsson leaving and their being no replacement lined up, to ask who we could buy within our budget to replace him. The answer I got was that they dind’t know and, anyway, it wasn’t their job to identify targets for Celtic. Think about it, these guys spend their lives talking and writing about football yet they know feck all. Hugh Keevins, for it was he, ended the show by summarising that I had said it didn’t matter that Larsson was leaving i.e. he totally ignored the point I was trying to make. The only reason the radio didn’t go through the window was that I was in my in-laws.
-
Rab1888 - we're Desmond's plaything because he puts nothing in but uses our club for his own ends. We're the only club in Europe with a billionaire chairman who puts nothing in. I'd rather we were skint and in control ourselves than be skint and patronised by the likes of him and Quinn.
-
Anon 1134
Desmond ,as far as i know, cannot invest into us massive sums, as this would be against shareholder and stock exchange rules concerning investment. I am sure this is the case as I have read it outlined on this site many times with people with far more understanding of financial accounts as well as from my recent studies.
If we want people to be able to invest in the club a la Murray we then have to go back to being a private company and the problems that that entails.

Anon 11:34
You seem to miss the point about our club and others like Rankers.
If Dermot Desmond wants to put more money into our club, he has to get something in return...he has to BUY something. If he buys something (Shares...not much else!!) then he gets to the point where he must make a statement on buying the club or not!
Whether he even wants to run a club as his main source of business may not even be the main point! (I would hazard a guess at he doesn't or he would have already done so!)
With all the stuff at Man U with Glazer, he may be waiting on his buddies JP etc to see what they are going to do.
On another point, I am sure he didn't amass £800m by giving away £20M here and there!!!

Anon 11.34
"Uses the club to his own ends" What might they be.
"Billionaire chairman" No, he is the single largest shareholder.
So, the petted lip is because DD is a rich man who doesn't throw his money at the club? Where does that sort of argument end...with every supporter having to declare their earnings and you then stating how much they should donate to Celtic?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him chuck a few million our way, but it doesn't always work out that way. At least DD isn't theiving from the club like the Kellys/Whites.
I'd rather see Celtic's future secured by having a sound and practical financial plan than relying on handouts from a 'Sugar Daddy'.
By the way, I think you'll find DD's investment is currently worth about 20% of his initial outlay.

We always tend to think of Football as a Special case, however now more than ever before football clubs are businesses and have to abide by the contraints any other business is under. However here's the problem, while clubs are run as businesses they cannot break free of the false market limitatin thrust upon them by geography, and EUFA. So we are for the timebing stuck in the SPL, and this market is going nowhere.
On the whole the clubs of the SPL carry too much debt, and having made a coos arse of the TV deal this revenue stream has been stunted.
I fear that in tehnot too distant future preofessinal football in Scotland will be bankrupt and where to after that?
-
Im stunned
Back to basics, it is irrelevant how much the club turnover is, it's profit that matters.
Nobody is disputing that the turnover has risen and everyone is playing their part by purchasing merchandise, tickets etc...
The biggest factor is COST. Our salary budget is one of the highest in the UK. Do not believe for a minute that this is just down to the peripheral players such as Sylla and Fernandez, it's also down to players like BBJ, Sutton Thompson etc... thats right, the ones who tell the papers that Celtic should spend more money or more players.
Celtic have made a loss over the past few years, even with Seville.
If you want to see smoke and mirrors, look towards that shower in Govan. Bloody hell, they have one of those very rich chairman who has sold everything from names on seats to bricks in walls and he still has to instigate a £50 million share issue which the 'supporters' contributed about £1 million. He has had to underwrite the rest. Guess what, the debt is still there, just in another form.
I really don't understand what certain individuals are missing here. We talk about transfer budgets and it always quickly comes back to personal attacks on Board members who are TOLD that they should dip into their pocket even more. I am sure nobody on this board would allow themselves to being bullied into spending their hard earned cash in a way that the rest of us saw fit.
It is irrelevant how much anyone is 'worth', how they spend it is their business.
The accounts are there to be viewed.
Anon. 11.34 - You would rather we owned the club and be skint? Crack on, shares are available on the open market.
Turnover is vanity, we can only work in the markets that we exist in, at any given time. At the moment that is the SPL, our cloth is cut.
When the market changes or we collectively realise that we can make £millions more profit if we only did X (e.g. sponsor for the stadium)then I'm sure the expenditure will reflect this.
Paul67, still of the opinion that there may be a link should Glazer be successful? I believe they are expecting the approach in the next 7 days due to time limits.
-
Can we get a spelchekker on this shite please.
-
Paul,
How do you see any potential transfers panning out this close season from the information that you have provided today? Is it a case of the early bird catches all the worms or will the club avoid paying un-necessary summer wages?
I have seen from previous posts that The Cousin, The Mole and The Insider have raised various 'potential' transfer targets, or have heard through their auntie's cousin about signings, but a couple of the players mentioned by them have appeared on the www.football-rumours.com website alongwith Artur Boruc and Marek Kulic.
Does anyone know anything about these other two guys and if there is any substance to the rumour?
One way or another the summer break is going to throw the rumour mill into meltdown, but that's what keeps us going over June and July.
Wullie Gordon
-
Wullie Gordon, in terms of new names I know nothing.
I know they have earmarked £5.5million for Bellamy and are looking for at least 4 players on top of this. Several factors will determine transfer fees, not only season book renewals, but salary costs for next season.
They are also hoping to bring in more commercial income.
-
Apologies for breaking the thread folks.
Today is the 20th anniversy of the Bradford City fire tragedy. As fellow football fans please give a moment to remember the victims, heroes & survivors of this horrific tragedy.
Sadly it took many deaths in the 80's to give us the stadiums we can safely take our kids to today.
Now back to the debate....
Thank-you.
-
There's a few hysterical posts on here. C'mon lads if your a real fan support the club at all costs. If we only have £5 million to spend in the summer then so be it, if it's £20 million then great. You can only spend what you have - so if we don't have it, then we won't spend it - if we do have it - we will. Maybe these hysterical punters follow the latter rule - making a Larry's laminate Land salary pay for a 4 bedroomed house & a Mercedes Jeep!

-
Wullie Gordon,
Artur Boruc is a 25 year old Legia Warsaw goalkeeper who has just broken into the Polish national side. He is 6 foot 5 inches, but don't know much more about him. The fact that Poland are now in the EU means that we wouldn't have to get a work permit for him.
Marek Kulic plays in the Czech League for Budejovice. He is probably most famous over here for scoring against Aston Villa in the Intertoto Cup last year. He is a striker who has scored 5 goals this season. Could be a recommendation of Lubo or Dr Jo, IF it is indeed true. (That is a major IF). Again we wouldn't require a permit for him.

Sorry Paul
Do not understand your logic here! How does this increase the budget by paying 11 days early. This is a pure timing issue. i.e receive the funds on 20 May, rather than 31 May. So good idea for cashflow purposes. Mr McCann did this (early renewals)when he was selling his shares to improve the cash of his business on paper(despite there also being an equal and opposite liability to provide a service, This tends to get ignored).
You also seem to have overlooked the fact that we can renew without having to pay immediately.
So again a bit puzzled by this latest post.
-
Oh dear – it’s the silly season again – even if DD had any inclination of investing any more money into the club the amount of personal abuse he takes from the majority and it is a majority of season ticket holders would surely make him think again.
Fergus McCann, DD, Brian Quinn, you bhoys take one hell of a beating J
-
also meant to say:
When I first read this, I thought I was on the renewals page for the official website. Did Brian Quinn or his beancounter break in and leave this message under your name- Quick renew now, you know it makes sense even Paul says so!
Having said that I will be renewing over next couple of days for the 10th consecutive season (including the Hampden Year. Yes still painful that year) and as usual everything has an addditional admin/processing fee attached to it nowadays.
As I said before, when you were dreaming of a £20m pot been spent (many months ago), It is time for the board to show us their ambition and actual some strategy (and some risk).
A lot of bagagge and associated costs should be offloaded in the summer.
So no excuses for not making funds available, if we want to be back to the dizzy heights of Seville!
In addition, MON needs to prove he is a great manager (not just good) and invest wisely in this re-building process!
Seville is 2 years ago. Do not know about you, but feels a lot longer!!
-
Once again we are at each others throats on what is a very important (but emotional) subject for the fans.
Maybe it would be a good thing to keep the rhetoric reasonable and stay away from wild accusations and personal attacks.
Funny how the Anons. seem to increase and be on the more accusatory side of things on certain "hot" topics. Or is that another Celtic paranoid conspiracy theory?
As not one person on this site actually knows what MON's budget might be for next year, consider that each of our opinions might just be wrong.
-
CanajunBhoy, dont understand your last post. Me posting as Anon and you posting as canajunBhoy are no different. WE STILL DONT KNOW EACH OTHER FROM ADAM! Maybe all Anon poster`s are still trying to think of great alliase`s like your`s. Come on mate get a grip.

Canjun Bhoy has made a very valid point.
Coming on here for a lively debate is one thing, but bickering and oneupmanship is another.
There have been a lot of posts lately with no name or nom de plume left on them which could mean it could be a valid supporter or someone at the wind up.
Come on Bhoys, if you are going to contribute then at least put a handle on your jug.

Hi,
I for one do not care how much a player costs, so long as he can produce the goods on the park. The team does need some freshening up - in order to produce a new 'core' of players who can help us through the next 5 years or so. In my opinion Bellamy is a must as he has prooved (and we have witnessed) the impact he makes on the team, his goal threat is immense! Releasing many players such as Joos, Douglas, Hedman, Sylla, Fernandez as well as selling Balde and Hartson could provide the funds for high quality new aquisitions as would new stadium sponsors.
If i may propose some names (most i believe you will be familliar with)
Bellamy, Diamond, Hartley, Boruc - seem more likely than not to arrive.
Should Petrov be sold (god forbid) the likes of Nico Kranjcar, Scott Parker should be sought as replacements.
In an ideal world keeping Petrov, and adding his 'best man' (Dimitar Berbatov) would make for an exciting strike parnership with Craig Bellamy!!
Either way lets back whatever we do in whatever way we can!!

Evening Paul, fellow tims.
Don't really see what the issue is here.
Way I see it, it is quite simple.
Renewals are due by a certain date.
You either take them up or you don't. If you don't someone else will. And the ones who don't are the only ones who will miss out.
And if some of the carping about this is anything to go by.It would be better if some of you didn't renew.Leave the tickets for someone who truly wants to go and support the team.
You don't know how lucky you are to have one,and be able to use it, in the first place.

Rammiebhoy,Thanks for letting me understand,it was very clear what was ment by Paul67 in the first few lines of your post.

Mmmmmm - a couple of things spring to mind.
Firstly, like many others, I'm a bit confused by your logic - short term usage of credit facilities should not make any difference to longer term spend.
If I didn't know any better I'd say this call to arms is a bit cynical (though the board will be delighted by the timing)!
As you know I don't quite agree that all the money has been spent (some strange reserves spring to mind).
It is indeed interesting that you have not mentioned what you expect the spend to be this summer Paul. I know you never promised the £20M (you were hoping) and you have indicated the board have opted for a "long" spend. But its interesting that you are no longer speculating.
I strongly suspect the board will tighten those purse strings further.
HOWEVER - we should buy the season tickets, it gives us the legitimacy to bring the board down when the realisation dawns at the start of the new season.....it won't be pretty.
On a few other points - DD has lost money on his investments but he is making a healthy dividend from our skint club. He has a bigger game to play - buy low and sell high.
I think after the lack of spending in the last few years the support have the right to be cynical and cautious - that is NOT the same as being disloyal.
Finally I always laugh when celtic fans criticise the media and then join in the "all you anons are paranoid. Whats it to be? I firmly believe that this country and in particular the media of this country are institutionally sectarian. In short they are out to get us. Yet we are accused by fellow supporters of buying the media spin. There is no need for media spin - the lack of investment in the club is breathtaking.
-
Bhoyobhoy, if the money comes in 11 days early the debt will peak at circa £5million less, creating £5million more space within the existing borrowing requirement.
In terms of when the money arrives, my credit card has already been charged.
Agree, Seville feels a long time ago.
Joe from Perth, always welcome.
Neg Anon
I am sniffing about the budget at the moment. I am told it is not concluded yet.
In terms of the media:
We should not expect them to have a pro Celtic agenda. What Celtic need to do is find ways to winning control of the media agenda, which some clubs do very well.
As Stephen Connelly said, lets keep things cordial.
-
Paul is talking about the PEAK debt figure.
The debt of the club is at its peak at the end of the season i.e now.
When the season book money comes in the debt will be brought down dramatically.
We are to pay out 5 million, this will increase the PEAK debt figure by 5 Million.
However if we recieve the season book money before this 5 million is to be paid out, then the debt figure doesnt PEAK as highly as otherwise.
To put it easier, if u are a £100 overdrawn at the bank and have a direct debit for £20 due to come off, then your overdraft will go to £110. If you pay in a cheque for £50 before this direct debit comes off then your overdraft will be only £70 after the payment.
Your overdraft PEAKED at £100 rather than the £110 it would have been had you paid in the cheque after the payment was made
Jhon
-
Paul,
Ok - I'll wait on your analysis.
On the media point. To a large degree it is impossible for Celtic to control the media - its far to anti celtic for any rational view to be taken. However Celtic has its own media - which, if used well will mean we no longer need to rely on "old" methods for news.
If only they would learn how to use it eh!
-
Negative Anon. I agree with your assessment of the Scottish media. However there is no point in complaining to the media, it's always turned around to our paranoia.
Without talking about religion, bigatory or sectarianism, what are their motives, where are their ethics and what should we expect?
For commercial media channels, there isn't much you can do, they can take any positin they like, you just have to choose not to choose that particular media.
On teh other hand, the BBC (includinf Scotland) we hve no choice but to buy through our licence fees. These channels are answerable to a code of ethics:
From the BBC's policy and values: "Trust is the foundation of the BBC: we are independent, impartial and honest" Seems this doesn't apply in Scotland.
Nother point I've mentioned before, is the use of of agents and jouranlists as radio broadcasters and pundits. It can't be ethical. e.g. Gordon Smith giving opinion on a player who's agent is er. Gordon Smith.. is it in his interest to big him up? Of course it is; or Jim Traynor doing a phone in on a Saturday evening, IMO laughing up his sleave at all the punters who call in. Do you think Jim knows the stories which his paper is to break in a Monday, or that the sister paper will break the next day? You bet he does.
I don't think either of these situations fits into the standards published by the BBC themselves. I've no problem with teh same people being given access to teh media, but acting as the Agent, or as the Journalist, then we know their bias. In the main they are acting as impartial when it is not in their interest to be impartial.
This insults everyone, who pays their licence fee.

Must agree with on this one Negative Anon,if this Board doesn't get outside money to invest, then in this modern day of business it's time we had the Carers of the Club move aside and let somebody who can.
They may have the money in the Club but don't forget we voted with our hands and feet to get the last lot out, wasn't that hard, was it?
I do believe that we should give The Board at least another few years(It will come a lot,lot sooner than anyone thinks)
We may still be a bit behind the likes of Barca,Inter,AC,Real, Bayern, Arsenal, etc when it comes to money(this includes the likes of Wigan FC also)
But I do think the Board are finally jumping on the gravey train which is called commerialism in modern day Football.
Yes we hate it but we also know that it's the only way to keep up with the Jones's in European Football.
We only hope that The Board(and Manager) can learn from their mistakes and make the Club into the great thing we know it can be around the globe.
Thinking in the square is just as equal to thinking out the square Paul67
(J*sus,I'm starting sound like my Therapist)
Keep up all the positive thoughts Paul67,I know most of them are coming true, only wish more could think more long term.
Hello to all the New CQN posters.

Paul67 you said “I know they have earmarked £5.5million for Bellamy and are looking for at least 4 players on top of this”. But given that about 7 players will possibly be leaving (Sylla
Fernandez Hedman Valgaren Lambert Douglas Hencho) in real terms we will be 2 down if only 4 come in. Okay we could get more from the younger players there already but we have seen (every time we look at the bench and think who we could bring in who would make an immediate impact) that the squad is thin enough.
I have said before Chelsea try to run with a 22 player squad we would be looking at 19 -20 players who would be 1st team players and are putting pressure on themselves and team mates to play.
As always I await the close season with hopefully anticipation of the players who will make the difference.
Paul67 any thoughts as to the potential budget for Rangers?
-
Some weeks ago you were telling us that amortisation was the key to spending. Now you're finally getting round to talking about cash flow but I think your assumptions are flaky to say the least.
Have you factored in bonus payments to players for winning the SPL and the Scottish cup? These could be major outlays in the next few weeks.
You don't give any reason as to why a cheque for £1.7m is being cashed by the IR on 20 May. What is this payment relating to?
How many season book holders pay on direct debit? I'd say plenty of them. If this is the case then Celtic won't be receiving nearly 70% of the cash until September to November which kind of weakens your case.
I think you would be better off pointing out which of the information in your articles is fact and which is your own speculation. Not doing this seems to defeat your original intention for the site......... not lazy journalism.

On the subject of the media I gave an interview today to the Daily Record about Celtic Quick News/football clubs and communications.
I’ve got a positive story to tell along these lines this week that they were keen to follow up.
It's all about engaging the media positively.
-
You'll need to publish it on here, as no one on this forum buy's that mince, do they?
I'd have been far happier if it had been the Scotsman or Herald but for now you can have the benefit of the doubt!!!
Hail Hail and keep up the good work!!

Paul67, I have no beef with the commercial media. Thay take their position and it's there for all to see; it's like the Sally Army selling papers around the pubs, you don't expect to see any topless wumin, or read the latest football news, or papers with an editorial bias for or against a political party. It's usually there for the reader to decide, and if you don't like it you don't buy it.
The BBC on the other hand has a duty to be impartial and in Scotland it's not. I've stated above that without bringing religion into it they fail to meet their own standards of conduct.
Still, you'll have to copy your Daily Record interview into the Blog so we can read it, I only get the NME.
-
Right i have held a season ticket at CP before they put seats in the old jungle (when they first made them available for the ground), i have lived thought the White & Kelly era when they abused the club.
I for one welcome DD into CP and other celtic minded people, so be careful what you wish for.
Then again we could have the Mint in-charge of our club, would that make some of you happy?
The money that celtic make gets spent on celtic things, if folk dont believe this then thay should report this to the stock market as it is against the law for directors of a PLC to rip-off the other shareholders,
If you dont what to renew your season book then fine thats up to you, but get a grip for feck sake .
rant over.

The Daily Record?
Engaging postively??
Have Celtic football club not been trying to do this for years?
It smells of a sell out to me...
-
Beware of "red tops" Paul. They have been known to print stories that bare little similarity to the interview given.
-
So some will say Rumoid. The point of the site is to help Celtic fans gain control of the media agenda.
A risk worth taking? If the media start to report what appears on here then certainly. Celtic Quick News has a limited readership, and if we do not try to spread influence we will remain a small curiosity.
As I say about many things, if you don’t try to you don’t find out.
Point noted CynicalCelt.
-
The only money that celtic will receive from season book renewals before the £5 million spend are those who pay the full amount up front, the others pay a deposit mid june so far too late for the big spend.

Eggs Benedict anyone???
If this story of rangers removing a well known dish from a menu due to the name being the same as the pope's is true then it is a sad day in the fight against bigotory. If it is not true I hope the Sun is taken to court and an apology made before further trouble erupts.

Interviews with the Daily R***rd, article in Not the View what’s next an advert during emmerdale!!!!!! No that I watch Emmerdale but that wee blonde burd…….
Hopefully you put them straight on a few things both in their reporting of us and the rankers. You will need to post it here as I don’t buy papers, unless we win the league or beat the huns.
More publicity the more chance this site will be taken over by more Anon’s like the one who posted at 10.38 with the uneducated rant on where does the money go.
Maybe im just being a bit it’s my ball and im no playing, but this site feels a bit like it’s my ball and I don’t want bigger bhoys to play with it. It’s an alternative view on Celtic not just another run of the mill Celtic site.
Ach im just being selfish good luck to you if you CQN to become a monster so be it but always remember the original posters who have made this site what it is
Need to go Emmerdale’s on in……………

Wonder why the most critical mails posted on this site damning Celtic's finacies, transfer dealings and DD in particular always seem to be anonymous, we had something similar an few weeks ago.
Anyone else smell huns here??
-
unless you know the person then everyone is anonymous, we don't all have fancy/ridiculous names. It doesn't make us ranker supporters
-
Can't believe what some people come up with when they post on here!!
The anon this morning refusing to buy his season ticket until he is lavished with quality signings.Trust me mate, don't renew.I'll be happy to be sitting in your seat next season and i'll pay today to get it!!!
As someone who had to give up their season ticket previously I know how much you will miss it and how quickly you will wish you hadn't been so stupid to give it up in the first palce.
CelticBhoy,I see what you are saying in terms of numbers possibly being two down, but that depends on how you define a member of the squad.
My definition would really be playing games, which effectively rules out Sylla and Fernandez for the best part of two years in terms of their usefulness to the club.We never knew they were there so we won't miss them when they are gone. For what it's worth,a tighter squad with superior quality would suit me fine.
Paul, your move to extend the readership of this site is bold. You had mentioned previously that you had one or two ideas but this one took me by surprise. However, you have a vision for what you want this site to become and sometimes you need to take risks to get where you want to go.I hope it works out.
Oregonbhoy
The fact of the matter is that there are many Celtic fans, due to a lack of understanding or ignorance, who will constantly have a go at the board for the lack of spending or anything at all really.Have a look at a few of the other Celtic sites on the web for proof of this.
At the end of the day,a lack of understanding is one thing but ignoring the facts when presented with them or twisting them to suit yourself is unforgiveable.I feel this is what some choose to do.Who needs Huns when your fellow fans will do their job for them?

sorry off topic
Greenmaestro- Has the NME improved stopped buying it a few years ago due the rubbish they were trying to pan of as the next big thing.
Also do the journos still write like they are failed musicians jealous of the bands?
-
I am certain that Paul did not approach the D.R. for an interview, rather they approached him.
To me this is an opportunity to get across some of the commonly held opinions of this excellent site.
Rather than slate Paul for this I commend him for taking the chance and the risk (that they will skew the statements) in trying to influence a principal player in the mass media.
For example maybe the results of the stadium naming vote will get more publicity, maybe not.
Good on you Paul.
Hopefully your flak jacket will be more required for enemy fire than friendly fire.
-
Oregonbhoy - I can assure you I am not from the darkside but I think there are some damning things to say.
Paul - I felt a cold shiver down my spine when you said you had spoken to the daily record. Rumoid & Cynicalcelt beat me to it - hope you taped it. They are simply not to be trusted.
Anon at 4.55 - be wary of what accounts can tell you - its a black art.
Greenmaestro - agree with your synopsis with one exception. Sadly you cannot separate the bigotry from the media. Don't forget the BBC would not employ a catholic until the 50's and the printed media has always spurned catholics. Of course it will be called paranoia - how else can the disguise it - and to be fair many of them probably don't even realise it (its just the way they are).
I would never complain to the media - waste of effort.
The point is - as time goes on - the oldstream media will start to become an irrelevance.
NE Bhoy - I haven't read the Eggs Benedict story - but its the latest in a long line - Green crisp packets, green seats, Peperami etc etc. The media portray this as fun - but its simply bigotry - we know it, they know it but we don't speak of it. Rangers are sectarian to the core - its their Raison Detre.
-
Bankiebhoy,
As I said to my old sparring partner NeilR (are you out there again Neil) - beware of people who claim to know the facts. There is plenty to question (though you may say I am twisting the facts) - but questionning does not mean you are disloyal.
-
A few truths about Annual accounts for a PLC for all the doubters.
The auditors would never sign off anything that they were unhappy about, i.e. some issue that could cause the accounts to be materially misstated (there is no black hole to some Brian Quinn holiday fund in other words). The partner- person from accountancy firm who signs the accounts- house, savings and prestige would be on the line. They are risk adverse for a living and would not accept an 'ach we're fine' excuse for an anomaly. It doesnt work like that.
The Directors would never allow it either. Corporate governance rules would seem them strung up by the bollocks for signing something for publication to the Markets which was nonsense.
The accounts read like a story for a person who is trained to read them; any large anomalies are apparent and would be noted by investors and analysts who have other concerns other than Celtic (i.e. pension funds etc).
Can we please stop the crap about the missing millions now?
-
Questioning is not disloyal but part of the debating process, having said that we should renew, as has been previously stated by (fellow) BANKIEBHOY not being involved would be torture.Lets hope the Board see a way of realising our dhreams under MON. ....WALK ON
-
Anon 7:49
Why don't you tell that to investors in Enron, Worldcom, BCCI (with Quinn looking over the accounts as regulator when he was at the BOE) and Equitable Life.
I'm afraid it doesn't really "work like that". Andersons were the most respected auditors in the business - tell me - where are they now?
Corporate Governance - I practice this for a living and believe me Director's will not always be happy to abide by the rules.
Accounts are manipulated all of the time - accountants aren't considered any good unless they can come up with some "options" accounting standards are not definitive.
Celtic have a few oddities in the accounts which Paul and I have debated. We don't agree - but there you go.
I don't believe they board are fraudulently taking money - but they are manipulating the value of the club (disguising performance).
-
accounts which are audited can still be false even to the best trained eye, how many scandals has there been recently with AUDITED accounts
This is not to say it would happen at CP but you cannot guarantee accounts just because they are audited.

Trust me,if the summer comes and the board have signed Les Ferdinand on a free transfer and no-one else, you name the place and I'll stand side by side with you to help remove this current board!!
I don't think it will come to that though. We each have an opinion on the board and yours has been consistent.I may not agree with it but I respect,it as you have analysed the facts but you have reached a different conclusion.

4.55 here, negative anon are you tell us that money is missing or going elsewhere?
can someone tell us how much DD has put into the club and how much he has got back in return.

Good article Paul, i'm not so tuned into the financial side but i'll take what you say as said! This is a crucial summer for the club - no doubt. THe thing is that no one really ever knows what MON is up to until it's done so we are going to see another long summer of speculation - again, no doubt. Selling Petrov is not an option, not even for 10m. He is the core that we will build around, he now knows what it takes to grind out results under pressure - a quality that can only ever come with years of experience, this simply cannot be bought. Lets look on the bright side - whilst the other half of Glasgow are already touting the signing of 4 top class players MON will go about his business in his usual fashion. I am confident that MON is aware of the money available and will be wieghing up the situation once the league is done, nothing will happen before then. MON is DESPARATE for a goalscoring midfielder - he feels as though it is the missing piece of his jigsaw, a jigsaw that now looks to be loosing shape. Nonetheless, I really hope MON addresses the left sided problem and not the defending one! Thommo is not the player that used to score they all important goals - Rangers, Munich etc... His delivery seems to be enough to keep him in the team but i feel he would play a lot better if he was being challenged for his position. Since the 'outball' i.e. Larsson left we need a new way of taking pressure of the defence in European ties. We should be lokoing to have midfielders that can penetrate teams and make defences sit back. Holland has proved a fruitful market for attacking midfielders in recent times - does anyone know if Celtic have coverage of this region?
-
When will the interview appear Paul? In common with most on here, I'm sure, The Record is not my choice of morning paper.
When I first read that you had talked to them I was surprised to say the least but as the day and the debate has gone on I can see the point; it's better having them inside the tent pissng out than outside....?
-
An interesting summer lies ahead in terms of what shape the team will take. There was an intersting article in the Sunday Herald where MON addressed the issue of players playing out of position in midfield.
His take on it was that Petrov has actually been more effective as a goalscorer from the right hand side of midfield. Now i dont have any stats on this but to me it still seems blatantly obvious that he seems less effective when played anywhere but in the centre and driving at defences and getting ahead of the strikers. Bulgaria's attempts in the summer to play him in the holding role were an unmitigated disaster.
I agree that he is the man we should be building our team around and i dont think playing one of our most important players out of position will do anything for his desire to stay at Parkhead. After all, he fits the bill as the profile of player we are looking for. Young but experienced with a bit of pace and a real determination.
-
NE Bhoy, never heard the Eggs Benedict story. Strange world.
Celtic Ultra, the site has grown month on month since it began. The success that it has had is totally down to the regulars maintaining an excellent standard of debate. Many thanks for your support.
The rants will come, as will the ‘you lot are talking rubbish’ comments, but they have always been here.
Time for a wee push in the media agenda game.
Celtic Bhoy, I understand that there is genuine faith in the youth players who will make an appearance in the next six months.
BankieBhoy, you are reading my mind here. Lets hope things work out.
Big smile when I read you Neg Anon.
I will no doubt say this a few times over the next day or so, but I cannot claim that an aim of the site is to grab hold of the Celtic media agenda and not try to address that agenda.
Either nothing will happen, or there will be a slow drip pick up of ideas in the wider media.
I met up with Neil when he was back for the Aberdeen game on Sunday, though he left the country immediately afterwards. He was asking for you.
Thanks TrueTim
Timmy7, I assume tomorrow. Lets see where things go from now.

Has anyone else out there had the same problems as me renewing? My renewal form had the boxes for ALL CIS Cup ties ticked in advance, I need to join the Home Cup Ticket Scheme to enable me to get my seat for Champions League (if we qualify).Included in this is ALL tickets for the CIS Cup. Now I don`t want to slate this trophy,.....BUT (if someone says but in a sentence it means the first part of what they said is a lie!!!!...an example is "I don`t want to be rude BUT you smell") Anyway I digress, my point is that I want to renew, but want to choose the games I want to go to. My renewal form wont allow this and trying to contact Celtic was a problem, I eventually got through to the ticket office at C.P. and though the girl was very nice she could not help me.I feel I am being taken for a ride, my Renewal form was printed with the box for the Diddy Cup ticked, which is one competition I have never wished to attend, and in case you ask I do not try to get a ticket if we are into the final , or if we are drawn against the Huns.Am I being unfair? I dont think so. I, like a lot of you out there, have a lot of committments and am going through a tough time financially. So why have Celtic done this???...to squeeze more money out me and I am scunnered by it. I will renew and there is no but, BUT I will fight them (on the beaches.....) oh and the poster who wanted quality signing before renewing..... Asta la vista baby!! You`ll be back!!

Taggsybhoy
Bold move Paul talking to the Record. Nice one. Whether it was the Record that approached you or the other way about is irrelevant. Your consistent argument on CQN is about Celtic being proactive in its news management rather than reacting to negative stories which we have no control over.
There are purists who are happy to rant and rave with their anoraks on to 100 or so believers, but sad, as it is, the bulk of Celtic's support read the redtops. We need to engage them with the wit and intelligence of CQN contributors, rather than get their Celtic fix from the Traynors of this world.
Why did The Clash sign to CBS rather than Rough Trade?
-
Anon 7:16, giving yourself a name, fancey, ridiculous or otherwise helps the rest of us to follow any given persons opinions. Remaining anonymous means your points hold less interest. Sorry!!
Celtic Ultra, a wee bit out of line assuming that a fan that demands the board spends some cash is uneducated. I used to think along the same lines until I started reading here. I am no accountant but I have a reasonable education. Perhaps Paul has pulled a flanker on this one. Watch for the influx of new readers ready to be converted to a more sensible approach to the finances and operation of Celtic. A masterstroke Paul!!!
Neg Anon, there will be nothing like the warm feeling you get from CQN being promoted in the DR…. let your enemy undermine themselves
-
Paul,
If you are keen on this site progressing then could i suggest a more orthodox CQN forum for people to continue discussing their thoughts on all matters Celtic?
Maybe it's just me, but i've never really taken to the 'blog'layout.
-
yeah anons, its as simple as doing this :
bla bla bla bla you dont know what your on about bla bla bla!
westim (for example)
it just means we're not all calling you "anon 9:58" etcetera
-
Sorry Paul totally disagree with any contact with tabloid press, no matter what they say to your face during your interview, and with it being the DR even worse. A paper taken to court on several occasions by Celtic employees over libelous comments/stories and if memory serves me right the best the DR managed was a draw, once. I heard about your site via my brother and I've used information put up on here in arguements over our finances. If your wanting a positive spin on Celtic it aint going to come from the tabloids you've said yourself they're in the business to sell adveritising space and to do this they need to sell loads of papers to them a bad Celtic story sells better than a good one and with regard to the DR being a great seller as far as I've read in other papers their circulation is falling and has been for years they've been overtaken by the internet and will try anything to boost circulation.
Even though you've been advised to make sure you taped the interview you wont have any editorial say on what they print and vitually no right of reply.
Hope you come out of it unscathed.
Hail Hail
Alan

Henkieisghod, I was also annoyed about the fewer choices available on the form this year.
Pepe67, never thought about it like that.
Bold indeed Taggsybhoy, let’s hope my brother speaks to me again! Talking to the believers is the key point, there is no point ‘preaching to the choir’.
Anon 9.58, the ‘blog’ layout is purely accidental, not by design. I had no skills/time to do anything else. Not sure of the best way forward & happy to listen to ideas.
Got a couple of big ideas to progress things myself.
-
Paul,
I admire your bravery in talking to the DR, but can only echo the sentiments already expressed.
You have always seemed to have a sound grasp of the policy and intent of the Scottish press, yet you are willing to leave yourself open to their interpretation of your interview/discussion.
Sensationalism sells their papers, and the great body of their readership (many tims included) will undoubtedly lap up the anti-celtic/anti-board/anti-DD...(perm any one from three) spin that the DR will put out.
I hope I am wrong, but I truly believe that by talking to these people, you leave yourself open to misinterpretation, misquotation and a myriad of other 'journalistic' tricks which will only undermine the excellent work and realistic message you have provided via your blog.
Here's hoping I'm completely paranoid,
Liam H

Hello Paul fellow Celts,Enjoy the mix of celtic football, and the business side of the team, you also have a good international flavour on here as well.....keep up the great work.
-
Slightly off topic again.
Surprised to see the hoops playing the day after the cup final in Jackie Mac's testimonial.
Having checked out the price of tickets, does anyone know if he is donating any of the takings to charity?
-
TrueTim - you say MON is desperate for a goalscoring midfielder? IMO, he has one of the best in Petrov, but the big thing against him is that he wasn't brought to the club by MON, so he'll never really be "his". Look at the way he's regularly moved to the side to allow Thommo to play centrally.
As for the pre-ticked boxes on the renewal. Isn't it just a case of KB'ing the offer of tickets that you don't want?
-
looking at this site, its like watching sheep, Paul67 ( D D in disguise) says something and you all follow him, celtic is run by amateurs if he was so good he would have a job with Celtic.
Hes full of accounts and wait and see, my information is we will sign 4 players etc etc anyone can predict and you all go away happy yippeee 4 new players paul67 said so.
-
CELTICDAVE
As far as i`m aware he`s donating half away. Quarter to a players fund for pro`s who have to chuck the game early through injury`s and quarter to a cancer charity, because his mum passed away last year through cancer.
beetlejuice<<<(whats the point?)

Interesting your interview with the Daily Retard Paul67.
I look forward to reading it on CQN,because I won't be giving a single penny to them.Probably all the bad press they get on here and amongst most other Celtic fans they are starting to panic and don't want to be left behind in the media war with the new internet "free media".
You will probably find that the article in the so called paper will be positive, due to fact that they will try to suck back in,the droves that have stopped buying the muck a long time ago.A leopard never changes it's spots.
After all, this site is a media outlet (completely independent of advertisers)
Would you see that lot do a story on the Scotsman,Herald etc.NO,why CQN then? Be very wary of their intentions. Why do a story on a competitor who is shrinking your net profit.
Don't forget all the garbage they have written about Celtic over the years on a weekly basis.I hope nobody buys the rag but reads it on here for free.(they still get money from advertisers everytime someone clicks on their website)
Only use them if it's to OUR advantage(free advertising)Won't be long before they are looking out the wolfs' clothing once they get(or don't get) what they want.
I understand Paul67 you have to be diplomatic to them also,as they can easily make things look bad.If it was me,I'd put them in the tent and piss on them for a change, when the timing is right.
Bigots the lot of them.
Keep your voice being heard NegativeAnon

Paul67 - Once you have done your interview and the piece is in print, do you think the site will be the same?.
The orcs and their bigoted abuse will be in here quicker than boumsong leaving dodge.
-
Excellent news today that Douglas and Sylla are wanted elsewhere. I hope that they are only the start of a major clearout.
In my opinion we can live without Lambert, Joos, Fernandez, Hedman etc.The money saved on wages should help to finance a few deals.
A couple of posters have rightly expressed fears that we will get rid of up to 7 players but possibly bring in only 4.
This would not cause me any worries if the 4 we bring in were of 1st team calibre and not just fringe players that you would dread seeing on the park.
Most of the players who may go this summer , with the exception of Lambert and Joos have never been really made it at CP and therefore will not be missed.
In hindsight instead of the above players clogging up the bench we could have had more from the younger players. I would rather see Beattie than Fernandez,Marshall than Hedman etc.
I will finish with words of support for Paul.
The site may be called CQN but the work and time he puts in saves lazy buggers like me trawling through accounts that I barely understand.
Anon 7.34am- You say that everyone on this site follows Paul's lead. If you really think that is the case you should read all of the posts, this site is about debate not point scoring like some other sites.
-
Missing millions. Some people say there are indeed millions missing some people say that is rubbish.
If you want to see where the money went have a look at the into the directors and board facilities the dressing room area and the entrance. Millions spent on the mint yoyo brigade. The other missing millions are still sitting in D/D S pocket get your hand in it desmond ya tight git.
-
Paul, I find your take on things extremely refreshing, and I don't see any problems with dealing with the press - any person with a responsible job needs to do so from time to time.
You mentioned big ideas: I imagine you're not doing yourself any harm when it comes down to selecting the next PR representative at Celtic Park? Is this the positive agenda you've got in mind?
KD FfM
-
Paul, I applaud your “ leap of faith” in trying to convince the red tops that the board are doing a good job, but you have said all along that they will print articles that the majority want to read which is anti-Celtic – pro rangers. Why then are you now of the opinion that this will change if they are given the truth.
DD – yea he is pocketing millions, along with Quinn, Lawwell and the rest. FSS – Grow up !

CELTIC are to allow an internet 'blogger' into their weekly Press briefing, in what is thought to be the first move of its kind.
The Parkhead club have granted fan Paul Brennan, 38, access to their Friday media conference from tomorrow.
The term blogger - or web- logger - refers to a person who keeps a diary-style record of events on a website.
After his first conference, Paul, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, will record his thoughts on the latest club news on his website, celticquicknews.co.uk He said: 'From my research, it looks like Celtic will be the first team anywhere to allow a blogger into an official briefing

Ahhhh we see Paulo, my hat is doffed. The bar is raised and the fans have direct access to the club. Well done my friend.
Stand firm and force the club to raise their own standards.

Paul67,
I applaud your 'indefatigability'. Don't know what it means......great word though!
Here's my vision, for what it's worth...
I need a daily newspaper to read
- D Retard....nope
- Sun....nope
- Mirror....see D Retard
-Mail/Express/Star/Sport......nope, nope, nope, nope......
- Herald....maybe...but have you tried eating a roll and sausage and drinking a cup of tea in the car in the morning whilst reading that big bloody thing?!! Tabloid size....and it would be a maybe.
Create a Media Empire, get all the Scottish, UK and world news from BBC (best of a bad lot) get the general sport fae them as well......definately not Sky (Murdoch and all that!)
Then we get the Celtic news (the good bit that comes fae the website) No spin, a bit like the Celtic View but not as wooly!
Suprise myself sometimes so I do!
Ok, sorry talkin mince....I'll get back tae work.....
P.S. What are you allowed to say at these Press Conferences? Will you take the general chit-chat fae here in the last week? Reckon they'll try and put some control on you but you go for it, sir! You've got us all behind you.
-
Paul. what better way for Quinn and his ilk to ensure you toe the party line, than feed you crumbs from their platter of prawn sandwiches.
If you were not already a puppet of Quinns/ Dessies propaganda machine, you are now, puppy.
It will put a whole new slant on any idea or article you now deside to comment on, or will you have to run these past Celtic's pr machine first before publication?
Sureley this is lazy journalisim, congratulations, paul, you are this years matt macglone.

Congratulations Paul. Your invitation to the press briefing is a testimony to the manner in which you've encouraged the tone and content of this site to be developed over the last year. Of course, it also reflects so highyly on the many contributers that make the site an excellant read.
Look forward to your review of the briefing.

I'm confused - is this news of Paul's elevation in The Record? How does it square with the day job?
Guus - you're still bitter about being overlooked obviously.
-
Guus Hiddink - lets give Paul a chance and hope he's not seduced by the trappings of fame!
If he is, then another fan will take on the mantle.
Good luck Paul, you know what you've let yourself in for, feet on the ground....remember where you came from....etc etc.
No, seriously, I wish you well in this venture, if you feel you are not allowed to say what you want (being diplomatic, of course) then you should walk away.
Good luck and God speed!
-
Well done Paul! I think it's a great idea, at least it shows the club are looking at PR matters. I'm hoping you'll be able to get answers on the points many of the folk on here have raised over the past year - re-naming the stadium would be a good one to kick off with (does BQ attend these?), instead of the usual "Where's the seville money?"/"Desmonds a crook" patter trotted out elsewhere.
Just think of the spin-offs from your new found status as well - free fish suppers in the Alhambra and discounted bombay mix from Alladins!

More power to your elbow, Paul! Great news as far as I am concerned. I think you will get more plaudits than brickbats from the regular contributors to this site. To echo what Romany has said the invite is surely testimony to the fine content and tone of the site!
Anything that brings the voice of the fans closer to those in power at the Club has got to be a good thing. You will get the inevitable criticism form those who see 'smoke and mirrors' in everything that the Club does and who firmly believe that DD and Co do nothing more than "line their pockets" despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Keep up the excellent work, Paul. This site is a breath of fresh air, keeps exiles like me fully informed and feeling still part of the Celtic family and opens us up to new and stimulating ideas. I trust that the frank views expressed on this site will inform the questions you ask at the conference. I very much look forward to the response and reaction from the Club.
-
Fair play to you Paul. Guus Hiddink CSC I cannot see how you can compare Matt 'I am the mouthpiece of the Celtic Fans' McGlone with what paul has set out to do. He has encouraged many of us here to participate in this blog and exchange views.
Did Matt ever do this?
I would soon as listen to what Paul has to say that MM any day of the week. Unless all of a sudden Paul starts writing the same sort of stuff as MM, going misty eyed about the Celtic/Ireland Romance which MM had a habit of, I hope he reports to us his take as he sees it, in the same manner which has led many of us to participate on this site.

This is the first time I have used this site and only came to notice it after perusing the Daily Record while eating my crispy roll with square sausage. But I'm going off at a tangent here.
Just read the recent article and I have to say it contains more holes than my wifes knickers.
Paul you seem to be grasping at high school accounting principles to write an article on cash flow here.
There is no specific reason for the deadline being earlier this year. Cash flow you say? Most Tims pay by direct debit - and the first installment isn't removed until June.
You then go on to say this will reduce the peak debt figure but that MON will spend it. Is that like taking cash out on your mastercard and paying off your visa? Can you please explain that to me please, as I am struggling.
Looking through your previous articles where you talk of a big spend this summer it seems your latest article is trying to provide a reason for this big spend not happening. I think egg on the face comes to mind.
Talking of such - crispy roll, sausage, tattie scone and fried egg in a oner.

Fist time poster, but long time admirer of the site.
Congratulations Paul! I look out for you at the VIP section in the Alhambra Chippie!!
Let's hope that this improves the Celtic's PR with the fans.

Celtic Ultra: The NME, it's smaller looks more like smash hits, the journo's are the same, but you get the occassional free CD. This CD allows me to tell younger people that all the new stuff is crap, and it was done better by The Clash, Sex Pistols, Monday's... I really only get it to see what concert's I can't get to becuase it's the same night as a Dancing display (I just have to remember to take some wet paint along to that, so that I can watch it dry).

I think what Paul was saying is they are spending five million in the last week of the month, so all they need to take in from season ticket sales is five million to keep the peak debt down, not all of it, and they already have my £400 (credit card payer).
Did you dribble a bit egg there?
-
Can I make an appeal here. This site is in my 'umble opinion by far the best Celtic site. By a mile.
As it opens up there will no doubt be more and more people starting to comment etc. Thats great. However the main attraction of this site is that points generally are debated, expanded, discredited etc but 99% of the time in a friendly agreeable and often witty manner. This is unlike any other site I've seen.
Can we all try to keep up the standards as the site opens out. Remember it will undoubtedly also attract many who do not want the club to succeed. Paul, well done.
-
nothing to say
-
Yep, Great step forward. Good luck with this Paul. Its a big challenge to be face to face rather than at the keyboard but I am sure I am not alone in thinking that you will do just fine.
Im looking forward to more Celtic News and not lazy journalism.
You may find some of the hacks none too pleased that they might just have to raise their bar.
That will be interesting.
-
Anon 12.23.
But he says this will keep the peak debt down *next* May. How can this be so if he says the money will be added to MONs budget? Am I missing something here?
Also the article says that the budget is provisional depending on season ticket money coming in on time. Absolute nonsense. The budget depends on qualification for the CL, player sales, season ticket sales in total. Cash flow will not enter into the final figure for the budget.
That's what the short and long term loans are for.
Looking through comments of thedominie it seems that he thniks that by questioning the article it makes you a hun. That's a really good debating skill and a sure sign the arguement has been lost.
Bigboaby.
The egg was delicious. Yolk at the side of my mouth now.

Celtic Ultra: As my hit count is low, maybe you'd like to check out my bootleg site at greenmaestro.rock.com (there is no www).

Read today that the Dundee Utd manager is stating that the game this weekend against Dunfermline is more important to them than the cup final and he is begging for the home fans to turn up in massive numbers.
Be interesting to see what the crowd will be -I mean obviously the 15,000 who had bought the cup final tickets will be desperate to be there.
Wish I had bought two tickets for tannadice – could have sold them on EBAY for a fortune such will be the demand!!
Aye right then !
-
Dear Paul,
Please note the posting by anon 8.53. He is absolutely right. This could be the end of the site. Given that a fair proportion of us post under 'anonymous' every hun with a PC will be posting. The 'anonymous' posting will no longer be an option and many of the conributors will be lost to the site.
-
Congratulations Paul,
Despite some of the unnecessary personal attacks you take from time to to time, you have hung in and provided a great service to the fans and maybe the club has noticed this with letting you in behind one part of the curtain for a peek.
Continue to weave your "influence" wherever and however you can, but keep the flak jacket on.
Unashamed to be labelled a Paul supporter. Dont agree with everything you say, agree with a lot of it, but most of all I have tons of respect for you and your integrity.
-
Well done Paul - hope all goes well at the Press Conference. Rather than ask about the transfer budget for next season, you could ask if they're putting a new carpet in the trophy room.

Paul 67 - well done mate, thats excellent news about you in the Daily Record, which I get delivered everyday by the way and have done for years. Of course most of the contents are pure mince, but regardless of that it was good to read about you being allowed into the weekly press briefing, We can now feed you with questions to ask on our behalf. You could run a question of the week competition - the winner would have his question asked at the press conference by your goodself. There's a thought. Also, I would expect within the next month or two that this site will have to become password protected etc as already the loony brigade such as Guss Hiddink CFC are blagging there way on here, there will be more and more loonies like that until you will be forced to convert the site from its current format to a password protected one. Kevin.

Paul,
I've usually followed your articles with great interest as they come at things from a different perspective. It's exactly what Celtic fans want to read. However your latest article seems to go against everything you've said previously? Apologies for snipping some bullet points from previous articles and not the entire article - however the comments aren't taken out of context.
So are you now saying that the budget will be finalised on season book cash flow? Surely Celtic will sell out all their season books? If so then I can't see why cash flow is a problem? Celtic also levvy a charge on those taking the direct debit option. I think this is 10-15 pounds. This would therefore cover any shorterm loans the club would need to make as the supporter is effectively paying the interest.
Anyway your points are below. Comments?
Champions League qualification is key, so look out for who we draw in the third qualifying round, as the strength of this team will set the expectations of income for next season four weeks before the signing deadline.
I can today reveal that the Co-op Bank are happy to extend Celtic’s borrowing facility beyond the current underutilised levels this coming summer – a bonus of the careful stewardship in recent times.
It is now clear that Celtic have scope to strengthen the team in the summer. To what extent this is done should depend on team requirements. A deal has been agreed with Newcastle to sign Bellamy, and funds are available for this. All that remains is the negotiations with the player.
For those who will doubt the board will invest in the team this coming year, remember these projections are more conservative than they have produced for a very long time.
As your lone voice in the wilderness here has been saying for some time, summer 2005 will be a financial watershed for Celtic. For the first time since the Dr Jo season we are not facing an inevitable loss.
Forgive me the odd millions here or there, Celtic will spend in the region of £14m next summer.
-
Anon 130 and Paul.
Your £14m figure or other projected spending figures - are they transfer fees alone or inclusive of wages? If inclusive £14m would pay for Bellamy on a 4 year deal and that is about it surely.
-
Georgiebhoy - when i mean i goalscoring midfielder i refer to someone creative and inventive. I see Petrov more as an all rounder. I believe he is looking for someone is similar vain to Muzzy Izzet. We just need that we bit of a spark that can make something happen out of nothing. I know you might say - who doesnt! But most top teams already have that player. Rangers thought they would find it in Duffel but it doesnt look to have turned out that way. This type of player is hard to find, especially when MON will expect a high work rate as well. Here's hoping we can get a player that does what Zidane does for Madrid, Lampard for Chelsea, Pires for Arsenal, Garcia for Liverpool, Nedved for Juventus i could go on for quite a while. Every top manager knows he needs THIS player. MON has been unlucky in his attempts but this may well be the summer when we add an extra dimension to the team.
-
Well done Paul in what is a most deserved honour. However as one reader pointed out earlier, don't do a Matt McGlone, just please tell it as it is.
It's exciting times to be a Celtic fan what with the potential of a double, endless speculation about transfers and the other media opportunities available.
I am looking for our club to be adding the already heaving amounts of quality talent that is already there.
Keep up the good work, and to fellow posters keep it real.

'Looking through comments of thedominie it seems that he thniks that by questioning the article it makes you a hun. That's a really good debating skill and a sure sign the arguement has been lost'
Utter nonsense. Read what is there not what you imagine is there.
Would anyone who reads here think Negative Anon for instance was anything other than a complete Celtic fan yet he very eloquently provides a good balance and counter argument to many of the threads.

FYI, Red Football Ltd has just tabled a bid for Man United at £3 per share. They now own 56% of Man United's share capital. Looks like a done deal to me. This values Man U at £790m, compared with £14.3m for little old Celtic. Paul, your moment of truth has come.
GM
-
That`s Glazer (how ugly is this guy?) officially launched the takover at MU. What affect if any does this have on Celtic?
-
This is massive, it could have such a big impact on where our club and team goes from here. DD has around 10% does he not in Man Utd? This means he has just won the jackpot...........interesting times indeed.
Nice one Paul - good for you for sticking to your guns.
Martybhoy
-
Congrats Paul.
Lets hope the increase in 'traffic' stimulates even more worthwhile debates and topics.
Glazer - looks like he owns 59% after Cubic (Magnier and McManus)have sold at 300p.
As I asked yesterday Paul, potential knock on for Celtic?
-
Well done Paul!!...your hard work has earned a foot in the door...just put a foot on the other side of the door to stop the loonies coming in...
Credit must also go to regular and irregular contributors to the site who contribute to the excellent debate...
Paul do you think you can get a ticket for Tynecastle for me now...Press pass will do....:-)
-
Congrats GM, you were first with the news, thanks.
Thanks also for all the support, appreciate it. Been tied-up all day, will respond properly later.

Does anyone know where I can read the record story online without going on their website or buying the paper?
Yes I must say,the words "the new matt mcglone" was said a long time ago on here. However as pointed out also,Someone else will take his place if he goes down the road of toeing the Club line.
I think of you more on the line of being put here by the Club,But please prove me completely wrong.
I wish you all the very best of luck if you are genuine and continue to consult with the fans then you are only doing good. It's certainly a step in the right direction, but tread carefully.
Only time will tell.
14 million you say will be spent?
Now I know that style of writing, anyone else recognise it?
After we get all the benchbhoys off the payroll that will save quite a bit,(how much would that save,in the millions anyway)sell a few players,Bobo, say 3M,add the season ticket money(no arguement about season ticket money not being paid until later in the year, the fact that fans have put the renewal in says to the bank we have guaranteed money, they'll give us more)
Once you add that together, not much change left of 14 Mil,So not much getting spent in your eyes?I think it will be a bit more
Beware there will be a lot of dark clouds coming on this website dressed as supporters, weed them out or ignore them, they don't last long once found out.
Beware of mutiple posters.
As said in the past everyone,it's ok to be Anon. but it doesn't get take time to register a "handle",
at least that way, your opinions will be noted,or questions to the club at the media days.
At least sign off with a name.Just makes things easier for everyone and that way you won't be lost in the sea of fellow Anons, most with some very valid points brought to issue.
So someone thinks we are sheep,I think it's time you spent a little time on the sidelines and do a bit of reading before you start to post,as obviously you haven't with comments like that.
We all don't have the answers but together we can find them.
If Wigan can get 25M then there's a bright future at Parkhead.
I do believe Celtic are taking the next step up,slowly but surely.
"Celtic shirts don't shrink"

Pepe67- sorry lack of an educated vocabulary stopped me from finding another word.
Henkeisghod- Ticket office is usually better dealt with in person rather than over the phone. Also the home cup DD scheme is dangerous and I would avoid it like the plague. Took 18 months to get £26.00 back when they charged me for tickets when I wasn’t even a member of the scheme. Another tip check the website for the customer service phone numbers call them and action always seems to be taken.
Greenmaestro- checked the link some good stuff on there, kind of stopped following the music scene over the last few years but the stuff you have appeals to my tastes. Also went on the nme website think I will just visit there rather than start buying it again.
Paul67- good luck at the press conference, how did you wangle that? Change my thoughts regarding the site getting more popular as it has been getting bigger but I haven’t really noticed it. Agree with the other posters that this site might end up to big for the blogger network and for one man. Think you better get in tune with a few technaphobes.
Change should always be embraced as long as it’s for the better!!!!
See the coolmore bhoys have sold their Manure shares is this the news the cousin of fargo was talking about?
-
Paul67 - I hope it's congratulations on getting access to the press conferences. I feel a bit like negative anon here, but what exactly do Celtic hope to achieve from this?
Do they believe that you'll provide a different slant to the rest of the media from the press conferences (surely the role of the Celtic View) and if so, then a: they're as paranoid about the media as the rest of us and b: what happens if you present the news conference from the fans persective - will they wish to edit or withdraw your access in future? There's potential for a PR disaster here - maybe they'll go back to holding a weekly press conference in Baird's!
On a positive note, it's clear that there are senior people at CP who are taking notice of what you are presenting here and what the other contributors are adding.
However, I'd have been more satisfied with a weekly or monthly fans' forum where you and others would be able to present the views or concerns of the fans and get direct feedback from the club.
For the conspiracy theorists out there who believe that Paul is DD in dusguise, a mouthpiece for Brian Quinn, or Celtic's PR, then think how lucky you are - you have a direct line into Celtic Park. Wake up and smell the coffee!
On the prediction for the state of the finances - I agree with much of the post, but also a little concerned that either the board or the Bank would be concerned about addressing short term cashflow issues with the season ticket renewals. This should only be a problem if we're close to our OD limits which we shouldn't be. I think they've pulled it forward in case we're disappointed at the end of the season.
This is the time to spend wisely. MON can clearly spot big players (Lennie, Bellars, Sutty, Thommo and BBJ), but has a lot to answer for when spending up to a couple of million.
As other posters have mentioned, we should build the team for the next five years around Petrov and make him captain.
Good luck.
-
Congratulations Paul, on the press conference thing. I have no doubt that you will approach this in the same manner as you have run this site, ie. by sticking to your principles, believing in what you say, and by telling the truth as you see it. I look forward to reading about the weekly press conferences, reported in an objective manner.
After the Glazer news of today, I think we have an opportunity to ask some pretty searching questions, based on some of your previous articles.

Its time MON got his finger out and get some quality players in and forget about wasting money on resigning average over the hill players like Lennon, Jackie and I would sell Hartson I cant watch this guy for another two matches never mind two years every move breaks down when the ball is played to him that shows you how much the scottish press know about football voting him player of the year I would of gave it to Alan Thompson or a Hibs player there is plenty of players that can follow them too I know these players have served this great club well but to progress in the CL when need pace and skill.I also agree with nae money Quinn most of our money goes on 1st team wages there must be some quality players out there who would love to earn that money and have the chance of becoming the next Celtic legend. The way I see it we need a new Keeper, two defenders, two midfielders, Bellamy Sutton up front lets hope for a great end to the season and some quality players walking through Parkheads doors early summer and not September hopefully they will see Thompson on his way oot . Hail Hail
