We all know what Mr. Howard means when he says he wants to control immigration....!
I think I know exactly what he is thinking....the reason why his policy is expressed in that fashion is that to express it properly would breach various laws!!!
This country can't be daft enough to elect this twat...can it???
-
OK - up and running now.
Don't see the need for a mini rant against Howard.
Surely as a football supporter he's as entitled to his opinion and as entitled to voice his as any of us are – even if it means calling for the managers heid.
-
Howard is a right-wing extremist/racist bar-steward masquerading as a as a barbed wire cuddly tory -(just like his party)
The man "supports" liverpool and everton - says it all really.
-
Nice to see that MON is still considered a 'talent' doon south, despite his numerous mistakes this season.
But then Howard has to have Scotland pointed out to him on a map.....'nuff said.
-
I live in E1 London, home of the Ali G "Respect" Party. Gorgeous George fronts it.....and he's a Tim!!!!
I like to tell my local "immigrant" friends that the first Black person to play for Scotland was alos a Celtic Player...it shows we are a club open to all.
Anyway, does anyone know how the injuries are looking for Sutty, Bellars and Didler?
Hail Hail!
We shall not be moved!

Bellars will feature V Hearts.
Sutton will be fit for Sunday V Sheep and Diddy will face a late fitness test before Sunday.
All of that from various sources.

What's happening Paul? Your most recent articles have been written as if the season has been completed. Most recently its been what are we going to do with the £2M windfall were going to get for winning the league, then its how about renaming Celtic park, and now its more or less as the guy said earlier, a PPB on behalf of the Labour Party. Have you not noticed Paul that we are about to embark on the most critical part of the season with an off-form un-fit injury hit squad, and the majority of our supporters are about as nervous as Turkeys on Christmas Eve? Normally a great website but definitely way off the mark recently. Great news by the way from Blennon if its true re Bellars being back for the Hearts game. Big M.
-
Seem to remember that the first Black international footballer did indeed play for Scotland, read it in one of the papers one day. So I did a google and found this.
"Andrew Watson is the man. Born in 1857 in the British colony of Guyana, Watson played for Maxwell and Parkgrove before moving to Queen’s Park where he gained three international caps for Scotland and three Cup winner’s medals, all before Wharton signed for Preston"
No mention of him playing for us I am afraid. Far cooler to point out that Gil Scott Heron's old man played for us.(http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/profiles/scottherongil.shtml)

Celtic News, not lazy journalism......eh?
Whilst I agree with your sentiments, can you get on with posting a decent article rather than the above mush.
-
I hope yer right BLennon – we missed all 3 of them at the Hibs debacle.
-
Bellars is definitely out. Not sure on Didi. And Sutty is allegedly going to be available for selection, as is Stan. But will the crowd be the extra man... or will they have more pressing engagements at ½ past 4 on Sunday afternoon?
Incidentally, to repeat my earlier question: If Bayern offer £5M for Bobo the Clown, should we take it and buy (say) Naysmith and a decent young centre back, or perhaps use the money to pay for Bellars (if he decided to stay)? And what of the news that Stuart Downing is stalling over his new deal at Boro? I wonder if he'd fancy pitting his undoubted skills in the CL...
-
I have supported Celtic for 35 years and today I will be voting Conservative for the first time.
Does this mean that I have to rip my season ticket up Paul?
-
Cheers B lennon, I had hope Bellamy would be fit for Sunday :-(
Sutty is always a bonus and didler would help too. Thought Beattie should start as he did well on Saturday.
Rugbybhoy - maybe I was wrong but the person I was refering to was Paul (?) Wilson the winger in the 70's. Maybe he wasn't the first black person but I think he was the first of Indian origin (E1 and Tower hamlets is the home of Brick Lane - lots of Indians / Pakistani etc). This was also mentioned in a recent Times article. I was just trying to to recruit a few new tims to the fold.
On another note I had "debate" with a plonker (village idiot) from Blackburn (where else eh?) who tried to label us as bigots following the recent Auld Old Firm game. It just goes to show how we are portrayed. We all have to do our bit to spread the Celtic philosophy and spirit. Keep plugging away bhoys and ghirls.

Such is the intense nature of this week, I for one appreciate a bit of distraction. I have been carrying a sinking feeling with me since the Hibs game, I only hope the Celtic players feel the same sense of annoyance at last weeks result.
-
Paul,
Maybe Michael Howard's political stance has been clouded by some of Houllier's signings.
In making it harder for non Europeans to gain working entry to the UK, then it would have made it harder for Houllier to sign some of the garbage that he did.

Martybhoy fair enough wasn't being @rsey or anything. I didn't really know about Paul Wilson as the only pics I have seen of him were black and white so thanks for that info there.
Just, I had a talk in the pub a few months ago down here about racism in Scotland (The Mark Walters incident etc) as I have recently moved back here after living in Edinburgh for a long time, and this Queens park guy was mentioned and then I saw a thing in the paper about him.

It was nice to see Celtic's best ever 'immigrant' back in Glasgow for a much deserved honorary doctorate. As always his comments to the media were pitched perfectly.
An inspirational footballer who for all of his skill became one of the best players ever to grace Celtic Park because of a HUGE work ethic which put less talented players to shame. A work ethic shared much more often than not by many would be immigrants to this country who would fall foul of Mr Howard's thinly disguised racism.
No better role model. And he believes we'll win the title!!!
-
Did you know that Celtic were the first European club to play an Asian?
Neither did I until this morning. There is a rather natty T-shirt available on this site commemorating the fact: www.sixtee7.com
Worth a look for an interesting fact.
The CSA are looking for help to arrange a stadium display for encourage the team against Aberdeen. They are meeting at Gate 2 at noon on SATURDAY if anyone can make it along.
Thanks corrib04, diversity is indeed the richness of life – even for Anon 1.40!
Realgreener, I would have left Howard alone if he left Celtic alone.
-
I've been looking at the past results (sad, I know), and have noted the following:
Celtic have three SPL games remaining, and if they win them all (even assuming the FoD win all theirs) Celtic will be Champions again.
These games are against Aberdeen at home, Hearts away and Motherwell away.
In the last 8 home meetings with Aberdeen, Celtic have won 6 and lost just one when it actually mattered - they had already won the title when the other slip-up occurred. Celtic have scored over 3 goals a game and conceded less than 1 a game.
In the last 10 away meetings with Hearts (there are some cup games in there) Celtic have won 8 and lost just one. This fell immediately prior to the UEFA Cup SF 2nd leg, and the players' minds were clearly on other things that day. The drawn match came after the title had been clinched last season. In these games Celtic have managed almost 2½ goals a game and conceded less than 1 per game.
The least positive outlook is against Motherwell, with 5 wins from the last 8 aways. We drew there last season after clinching the title, but had previously lost 1-2 and drawn 3-3, albeit both in the early part of the respective seasons. Celtic have managed 2½ goals a game, and Motherwell are the only of these teams against whom we have conceded more than a goal a game. But 5 wins and just 1 defeat from 8 away games is still a good return. And Motherwell are making positive noises about letting the trophy be presented after the match, and hosting the fans' title party. Perhaps they are planning to "lie down" for us... Hey, I'd better wash my mouth out!
-
Paul,
While I agree with your sentiments with regards to Howard (he'd say and do anything to appeal to the lowest of the low) I don't think here is the place to promote your politics. More especially in this week when most of us are far more concerned about how OUR team will fare on sunday. The one thing they need more than anything is total backing from first to last. (here's hoping Bayern don't get disenchanted with Bobo, like we have. Here's hoping he plays a blinder from now until the end of the season and they take him off our hands for a sizable fee!!)

Paul et al,
this has been asked on the BBC pages by a pretty sound guy and I know that it has been discussed here before.
Would Everton going into the Champions League Seedings and Liverpool as champions not qualifying help our hopes of Pot 2 seeding?
Rugbybhoy
-
RugbyBhoy: YES.
If Liverpool get in they will be seeded above Celtic. Everton will not be.
The following web page carries the up-to-date situation:
http://www.geocities.com/ricardo3941/ECL0405/cl0506.htm
-
Rugbybhoy,
We are now safe in the top 16 qualifiers. As such it suits Celtic better if Liverpool qualify and Everton do not, as Everton would be un-seeded in the third qualifying round and might be drawn against Celtic, whereas we could not be drawn against Liverpool.
Would rather avoid the likes of Everton, much better off with a Swiss club or something like that :-)
I am backing your info Bigchipsuk. Impressed by Motherwell, a team never known for their Celtic leanings.

I'm interested in the almost unanimous view that we should sell Bobo. In the interests of balance can I ask what Bayern, one of the best teams in Europe, see in him that we don't. Also, if reports are to be believed, Bayern are conducting a fairly widespread hunt for a central defender. If they sign Bobo does it not follow that he is the best option available to them? In that case, who do we sign as a replacement?
GM
-
GM... without knowing too much about Bayern's team... I think they had two ageing centre backs (somethin like Linke and Worns) and I think one of them is retiring / bossie, the thinkn behind bobo is that (a)Fans overall tend to like his "enthusiasm" i.e. "bobo gehen zu getz zie" (there or there abouts) (b) bobo at £3-5 mill is a lot cheaper than another cultured centreback at £10-15 mill (c) as he is not coming from a big serie a, la liga, premiership league his wages shouldnt be an overly big issue (see prev. article on german club finances) (d) they have commented on his aerial ability (think the drogba header) (e) they hope that by playing beside players who can pass the ball he will know his job (i.e. get anything in way of ball give to someone who can play) and stick to it
-
Paul, excellent topic.
Celtic fans are generally decent people. If decent people don't vote (albeit that the choice is not always great) the worst sort gain power.
Benitez/Howard/Larsson my thoughts exactly. Well done.
-
Liverpool wont qaulify even if they win it. Epl looking after thier own trough top four qaulify. Davies to run the line at the cup final dogs abuse is not the term for it.
-
Hi all
Did Mr Wilson put you up to this article Paul? I wondered what the point of him being at Celtic was.
The only acceptible vote is of course to VOTE GREEN!!!
On the Bobo front, if we offload Bobo to Bayern for £3m> it will be the best bit of business MON has done since he bought Sutton (excluding pulling the rabbit out of the hat with the Camara/Bellamy swap....)
Havent wrote since the Hibs game (it took me a while to recover)...the thought I had when I left the stadium was that the majority of our fans dont deserve to win the league...lets hope only the right 30,000 turn up on Sunday and everyone gets behind the team...
And just in case people missed Pauls posting earlier there is a brilliant(even if i say so myself) new website launched;
www.sixtee7.com
Go check it out once youve posted a comment here of course...

Glasgow 1950 1,100,000 people
Glasgow 2000 635,000 people
Too true we have an immigrant problem: we're 400,000 short in this city alone.
First black international player was indeed Andrew Watson: captained Scotland - won 3 caps. I should know seeing as I discovered him ten years ago :-)
-
Sorry Paul67, but this was a stupid post. Howard isn't going to win anyway, so I don't see the point of attacking him over the fact that he once acknowledged MON's ability by suggesting he be hired for the club Michael Howard supports.
As for your wrongheaded comment about immigration - by "that kind of immigrant" - do you mean the illegal kind?
All in all disappointing little rant from you, maybe you've been spending too much time with the disgusting Frank McAveety.
-
gedboy - short of what exactly? Do we really need more overcrowding, pollution, competition for jobs, rising property prices...?
-
Philvis, you may like to consider this.
People used to start work at about sixteen, work til they were sixty five and die in their early seventies. Therefore they worked for nearly two thirds of their time on this planet. This allowed them to effectively pay for the other third.
Nowadays what with more students , people starting work later, early retirement and people easily living to their eighties they spend less than half their life working for the other half. the pensioners become a burden for us now as we do for our children when we all retire. That's the choice most people are choosing just now so quite rightly we need to deal with it.
Me, I'd just like plenty more people helping so I'm very much with Gedboy on this.
PS Henrik Larsson drove several big flashy polluting cars, took the centre forwards job away from the likes of Wayne Biggins and paid a fortune for his house.
Maybe we didn't need him but I thought he was magic!!
-
To those who were quick to decry the content of the latest post as largely irrelavent, take a step back and appreciate some irony.
Tony Blair is about to win a historic third term for the Labour party. This is something that has never been achieved since the party's inception in the early 1900's. Despite this, however, his popularity is probably at an all time low. People are questioning his tactics, judgement and general suitability for the job.
Jump from politics to the current pressure on MON and you have a similar situation. A number of us are questioning his judgement, tactics and whether it is time for him to move on. What we are not doing is actually appreciating what he has done for us and how he has taken the club forward.
Unfortunately, Tony Blair and MON are in the same boat in that neither will be truly appreciated until they are gone. I expect Blair to be gone in a couple of years. I hope MON will be around for a good deal longer!!
GM
p.s. lest anyone think I'm a card carrying memeber of the Labour Party, this is the first election I've voted in since I was 18 (18 years ago). Today I voted Lib Dem in protest against the fiasco in Iraq.

-
thedominie, you may want to consider this:
Mechanisation and globalisation means that we don't need to have a vast workforce of unskilled labour to have a successful economy. Indeed, immigration hurts the working classes the hardest by providing a steady influx of economic competition, at a huge cost to the welfare state.
Also, the reason why large parts of London, Paris, Berlin, and even Copenhagen have become hellholes where the natives dare not go is because of Third World immigration.
PS - I liked Henrik Larsson. Still do. But if several hundred thousand Henrik Larssons turned up at Glasgow Airport tomorrow, it wouldn't be an unalloyed blessing. And your average illegal (or even legal) immigrant is no Henrik Larsson.

Some guys don't have a sense of humour! I suspect Paul is on the windup, trying to relieve the pre-run in nerves with some irreverent political banter.
As someone charged with the, mostly, thankless job of trying to educate young people to be interested in matters of a political nature, I always despair when the "keep politics out of.." brigade come on. Politcs is about opinions and making decisions. Nothing more. It concerns us all.
The guys who come on here are, quite rightly, not short of an opinion or two, so we are all, whether we like it or not, politicians of some sort. It is only a matter of degree. Some guys do it for a living. But politics affects football, and Celtic, in a big way. If you choose to live in denial, fair enough.
Me personally, I enjoy the forays into the non obvious Celtic world. I love hearing that some snooker player, golfer, pop star, actor whatever is into Celtic. I give them a bigger cheer!
I do not believe for a second that the world of culture and sport is dominated by guys and gals who support the hoops. And the opposite; that most cultured, politically aware and educated people stay well away from TFOD.
So, if you want a very rough guide about Scottish politics and fitba'
Labour. Most Labour politicians support the hoops. That is because of the shared roots between the party and the club. And, I think a fundamental decency about supporting the underdog. Its not a Catholic thing, more a who do we feel most at home with thing.
The Tories are the natural party of the establishment. Most of their activists and politicians are instinctive Huns and Jambos.
The SNP do not have much of a central belt base. They, like the Scottish national team these days, are rurally and Notherly based. They tend to support diddy teams and are, because most of them are geeks, quite proud that they do.
The Lib Dems are a pretty well heeled bunch and care more for rugby than fitba'. They would, apart from Jim Wallace, keep well away from Celtic and Rangers as they, in an effort to be "balanced", think "both sides are as bad as each other". The Partick Thistle of Scottish politcs.
The SSP are former Militant and while they come from a working class and central belt background, don't want to alienate working class Rangers fans, so they usually claim to support diddy teams too. This, like Militant of old, is a front and they support either Celtic of TFOD but won't admit it.
The Greens are a nice bunch and don't like fitba' at all. All that competitivenes, partisanship and "parochialism" is just not conduicive to developing a global plan to save the planet.
So, there we are. I've been too late to influence how you voted today. But, I forgot about the UKIP and the BNP. Less said, the better perhaps, but Philvis, I suspect you are a sympathiser of one of these.
If it wasn't for immigrants, our NHS would simply not exist. Immigrants, like the Irish and the Asians/West Indians before, do the jobs we are not prepared to do. Rising house prices? I would have thought that was more to do with a healthy economy. Overcrowding? Creating unemployment? We are very short of nurses and teachers. There are very many skilled asylum seekers doing nothing when they could make a real contribution. I would have thought a Celtic supporter would know the club's history and traditions and welcome strangers to our country. See what I mean about not escaping from politics?
Oh, and btw, I watched Footballers Wives instead of Question Time last week.

Phylvis,
You are of course entitled to your opinion - but.....
Scotland is absolutely desperate for people - this will make the economy more boyount and viable. If the population keeps falling in the way it is we will end up with a very poor economy.
Already we see this with the movement on HQ's to South England - because thats were all the customers are.
Oh and if you stay in any hotel in London you will find that not one of the staff is from the UK.
Apart from that its always a sign of a party bereft of ideas to blame the immigrants - classic.
I'm soooo disappointed in the election coverage - the BBC have opted for a Scottish programme which is crap and ITV are now comparing the elections to snakes and ladders (talk about dumbing down). Any recommendations guys - I've got Sky etc.
-
Philvis do you live in Glasgow? I am always stunned by the areas of wasteland that were once housing or factories.
We need more people in Scotland to keep the economy going in a virtuous circle.

Stick it on sky 944 for slightly better national coverage. At least they have Peter Snow.

Negative Anon, I have plumped for BBC 2, the BBC Scotland coverage is making me regret voting in the first place & I also reached for the channel changer when I saw the snakes & ladders on ITV.

GM
You are right in what you say MON,like Blair, will only be appreciated once he has departed the scene, whether you like him as a leader or not. However, that doesn't mean the person that replaces either will be unable to be successful.
Your post got me thinking though. The only reason that we are looking at a third Labour term is that John Smith,Tony Blair and many others recognised that Labour needed to change or amend its way of thinking in order to regain the influence it had previously enjoyed in this country.
To many socailists, they found that unacceptable but the pain that Labour endured during the change to "New Labour" has ensured the last ten years have been Tory free.
There are similarities with our current predicament.Tradition seems to be trampled on and to some considering selling the name of the stadium is a step too far.But maybe history shows us that sometimes you just have to move on and modernise your thinking to stay at the top of the pile.

Indeed, BankieBhoy. Your point is well made. The jist of mine is that people are quick to bite the hand that feeds them when the going gets a bit tougher.
Indeed, it is worth baring in mind that while Neil Kinnock and John Smith laid the foundations for Tony Blair's success, so Margaret Thatcher sowed the seeds of destruction for Major, Hague, Duncan-Smith etc. (is that them all? I've lost count). Any successor to MON would have BIG shoes to fill.

For goodness sake Paul, your allowed to react to the occassional negative post, if you only respond to the guys that come on here praising you telling you your great etc, as you have done recently, then this website will quickly lose all credibility, assuming it still has some after the recent way off the mark articles. And I don’t mean to be offensive here, maybe I'm just a bit nervous considering the big games we've got coming up. Kevin.
-
Kevin, I respond to lots of disagreeing posts. As a rule, if they get personal, I tend not to bother.
In terms of criticisms of subject matter for the site, as appeared above; some you win some you lose. I knew I was taking a wee risk with the subject matter, however, if I never done this it would be a pretty dull site.
On the positive side, anyone is free to come on and have their say; another wee risk, but what the hell, we are among friends after all.

Taggsybhoy,
Great post, but....
An analysis of politics as being merely opinion and decision based is a wee bitty simplistic.
The reality of the situation, if we like it or not is not about negotiation but about the realpolitic of power. Purely and merely.
A bit like when Theory is having ideas and ideology is when ideas have you.

Celtic signed his estranged father Gill Heron after a tour ofthe USA
in 1951 I think, read about it yesterday, and he was a Jamaican International and the first Black player we ever had.
GSH is regarded by some as the 'Father of Rap' - open to discussion I would imagine but none the less is considered very influential over the way modern music developed.

Losing to Hibs, losing our Manager, Losing the League, Davies on the CupFinal Line........it's all in the mind isn't it, I said isn't it?????????
Mischief making I hope. Really hope.
It would be a sad day for our club.
I can't see it, unless the family issues are still there but I'm glass half full. MON has next season to look forward to, a sizeable budget (ahem), and pot 2 of the Champions League. I think I could stick it out for 1 more year too see if I'm as good as I think I am, to test the fruits of my labour.
Mischief makers indeed.

This just puts another log in the fire which i think will produce a lot more smoke in the coming months. I mentioned recently that Walford looks to be off despite trying to keep it concealed. The story on sky doesnt mean much but why would Co Adriaanse approach Celtic in the first place. I have conistenly quoted MON when it has came to job offers for the past years and each time i have been proven right: "There is only one job i would go back to England for and the best manager in the world is there right now"
Things change and i wonder whether or not MON still has the same viewpoint. If MOn doesnt get at least 10M then why the hell should he stay? He has taken Celtic as far as they can go and he needs some serious funding to take them further.
It will take two conditions for MON to leave in the summer - not getting enough money and an offer from a club who he feels he can take to a new level than they are currently performing at. Both terms are subject to a great deal of uncertainty.
Would he go back to England? He cant win the league if he doesnt get the Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool job (all pretty secure). So his only motivation would come from a seriously underperforming club.
-
CelticBhoy, I never gave any validation to the story, merely drew the attention to it as it "followed the line" of the rumour mentioned by NegAnon.
-
CynicalCelt I was just putting another spin on the story no criticism intended of anyone.
If anyone is in the Celtic end on Sunday hold your card up please.
-
"Leicester City manager Craig Levein has confirmed that Celtic defender Momo Sylla is training with the club." while I would like to see him go should he not be at CP at this late stage in the season?
-
TrueTim You asked "why would Co Adriaanse approach Celtic in the first place?"
Maybe this qoute from the skysports article will help to explain why:`Despite a brilliant season with AZ, Adriaanse is leaving Alkmaarder Hout in the summer and Louis van Gaal has already been confirmed as his successor.
-
I can see the headlines tomorrow already. Speculation till there is concrete proof but I have a feeling there is something in this. The dip against Hibs was inexplicable. these last four games should be a case of make sure the game is won in the first half hour and then make sure you dont lose. No matter what is in the papers tomorrow, remember that this football club is bigger than any individual.
Lets make sure we win the league first. Worry about who wants to manage a team who can qualify for Pot 2 of the Champions league and earn a Million a year later!
PLease Please dont turn up on Sunday looking to blame the players, management, media, board, SFA, next doors dog, the man in the moon... 4 games 4 wins = 2 cups. These games matter too much for the future to start imploding now. Don't wait on the team sparking you into life. If we dont give this team opur full backing no matter what is happening on the park till the players are off the pitch we are not going to win a bean this season. If it means turing off the radio, not reading a paper for the next few weeks then do it. Just make sure you turn up and give it laldy.
-
Xavier, the man was doomed from the moment he crossed Celtic :-)
As far as the MON stories go…..
I am sure he will retire when he leaves Celtic. Not knowing his personal circumstances I will hold my counsel rather then add fuel to the flames.
Unbelievable that they have appointed ‘that’ linesman for the cup final. Maybe I should run the other line just to even things up, mind you I quite like Dundee United, so it would hardly be even.
-
Well said Brendan.
Please please fellow Bhoys, please justify our tag as TGFITW and belt it out for the full 90+ minutes to help drive the team to victory, not just this weekend, but in all four remaining matches.
Remember the Liverpool fans on Tuesday night, and the Portsmouth fans when they were trounced by Arsenal in last season's FA Cup... Let's show that we can outdo them all and get the whole stadium bouncing from kick off to the final whistle.
With the preverbial extra man we can prevail.
-
...and how about a full-on rendition of YNWA at the start, end, and several points in between. Treat each remaining match like you would a Champions League match against Manchester United and almost literally blow the opposition away!
-
Remember what will be happening at the Celtic end on Sunday to help with the atmosphere.

YOUTHS ON THE BRINK AFTER BEATING RANKERS
From www.CelticFC.net:
"Scottish Youth League
Friday 6 May 2005
Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld
RANGERS… 0
CELTIC… 2
(O’Carroll 26, Finnbogason 62)
IT IS A measure of a player who can step up to the bar and perform when the pressure is on and today Celtic’s Under 19s proved their mettle as they edged out in front in the race for the title with a 2-0 win over their oldest rivals.
With Hearts, Motherwell and Celtic running neck and neck at the top of the youth the pressure is on with just a couple of fixtures each remaining this season. The slightest slip up would hand Celtic the advantage and with both Motherwell and Hearts dropping points of late, it was Celtic’s turn to today feel the pressure as they travelled to Broadwood to face Rangers in this much anticipated final Old Firm game of the season. But going by this match this afternoon it was Rangers who appeared to be feeling the pressure after a two defensive errors handed Willie McStay’s Bhoys a 2-0 victory to put them two points clear at the top.
This game actually got off to a fast start with Rangers breaking straight from kick off and then Celtic countering and winning a corner and free kick on the edge of the area within the opening five minutes. But the first and perhaps best chance of the game fell to Rangers right on the fifth minute after Ryan Conroy gave away possession on left flank. Striker Ross McCormack was quick to take advantage and broke to byline where he powered in an excellent ball at pace which was met by the head of the onrushing John Johnston. It was an excellent chance for the right-sided midfielder and he had made a great run to support McCormack, but he could only power his unchallenged header high over the bar.
Throughout this opening spell play flew from end to end with Celtic working hard to force play up the park and Rangers looking to hit on the break. Ryan Conroy was able to squeeze in a shot in the 10th minute after a scramble in the box following a Jim O’Brien corner, but again Rangers swept up the park and had another excellent chance in the air with McCormack this time rising to meet the ball in from the left. But Celtic keeper Scott Fox was more than a match for the low header.
Rangers’ keeper Calum Reidford was already showing signs of the nervousness that would later cost his side so dearly, particularly when Celtic pumped balls into the box from set pieces. But he looked infinitely more composed as he did well to parry Michael Gardyne’s effort from the edge of the area after the little Dundonian playmaker took advantage of a series of ricochets in the middle of the park.
After a good opening to the game, play began to lull and you got the feeling that this match would need either a bit of luck or a controversial decision to spark it into life. This moment came from Rangers and the poor decision making of Reidford.
Celtic had been defending on the edge of their own area when Kjartan Finnbogason sent a long ball out of defence. There seemed to be little danger at first as Diarmuid O’Carroll was up front alone and marked by centre half Steven Campbell. But Reidford rushed from his line to the edge of the box and all it took was a slight touch on the ball by Celtic’s Irish striker to completely befuddle him. While Reidford chased his tail looking for the ball O’Carroll released a first time snap shot that trundled toward goal and went in off the right hand post for Celtic’s 26th minute opener.
By this point in the match the wind began to drive the heavy rain across the pitch, with Broadwood’s missing stand behind the goal exposing the game to the elements and play most definitely appeared to suffer.
Rather than the goal opening up play, the game became tighter and both sides had two late forays on goal apiece before the referee sounded his whistle and the players trudged in for half time.
Given the importance of this game a good number of supporters had made there way through to Cumbernauld for the game to cheer on either side, but there was little to raise their voices about in a second half which mirrored the first.
McCormack enjoyed the first and best chance of the second half for Rangers when he should have perhaps tested Fox with a free header on the edge of the six yard box. But the play again settled into a familiar pattern with Celtic enjoying most of the possession without forcing too many clear cut chances and Rangers apparently content to hit on the break. But they had little chance to do so when a long ball from captain Charlie Mulgrew at the back had their defence in disarray and gave Celtic the valuable second goal.
It was a good delivery from the big defender, long, high and into the box, but the danger should have been perhaps cleared comfortably until the ball was helped deeper into the box by a struggling defender.
There it was met in the air by Celtic’s Icelandic striker, Finnbogason, who made contact with his head and sent it over Reidford as the keeper again rushed out to flap at the ball.
The home side were again left bemoaning their indecisiveness at the back and Celtic were left to celebrate, although Finnbogason was slow to join in after taking Reidford’s attempted, clearing punch to the back of the head. But the big striker got up, dusted himself down and got on with play and this second goal made Celtic look decidedly more comfortable for the remaining half hour of play, if still not as fluent a side as we have seen in recent weeks.
McStay then made three changes in the closing quarter with Ryan McCafferty replacing O’Brien and falling back into the right back role, as Celtic reverted to 4-4-2 and then Simon Ferry and Charlie Grant replaced the Icelandic pairing of Teddy Bjarnason and Finnbogason and adding fresh legs. There were two more moments in this game that raised the blood of the crowd and could have seen Celtic extend their lead.
First Derek Carcary was lucky not to have been sent off after first attempting to pull Conroy up off the ground and then kicking the prone Celtic winger as he lay there. The referee was incredibly just three yards away from the incident but missed it completely and waved play on. Reidford then nearly compounded his horror showing in goal by managing to slice a simple back pass, almost into the path of McGlinchey, but the ball bobbled away out wide.
When the final whistle sounded however, any ill feeling had clearly faded and both teams met in the centre of the field, shaking hands and applauding the supporters together.
The result now puts McStay’s men top and only needing one point from next Saturday’s away game in Dundee.
But whatever happens in the coming week, the youth coach will be confident that this young side will be able to handle the pressure.
RANGERS (4-4-2) Reidford; Lowing, McColl, Campbell, Jacmont (Agnew 64); Johnston (Crooks 69), Emslie, Gilmour, Carcary; McCormack, McMillan.
Subs: Giaconi, Woods, Ure.
CELTIC (3-5-2) Fox; Reid, Mulgrew, O’Dea; O’Brien (McCafferty 75), Bjarnason (Ferry 77), Gardyne, McGlinchey, Conroy; Finnbogason (Grant 77), O’Carroll.
Subs: Wood, Richardson."

Been reading with interest. Haven't posted in a while - Little bits of politics. Little bits of politics.
Paul is certainly covering the ground these days. Stadium sponsorship - no brainer.
10:56PM Anon: Thanks for the LOL, even if it is unintentional.
BankieBhoy absolutely. Celtic and Scotland it's all the same - as Jamsie would say "It's adapt or die"
Brendan spot on. Let’s get behind the team.
Glad some kind of sense prevailed in the election. Blair may be W's stooge and lied to go to Iraq; but you know Howardinski would have done that and a whole lot more. This is the guy who brought us the Criminal Justice Act after all.
In saying that - neither of the two are worth your vote (if you voted that is).
Back to Celtic (That is why we are here ;-)
That feeling of walking over broken glass continually haunts us as Celtic supporters - the closing stages of this season being no different. Hibs game - blow to the stomach.
Balde, Varga, Thommo and a whole bunch of others have been sub par this season. However it doesn't mean we have to bin them all. These guys are proven for us and do not need to thrown aside wholesale.
A priority for Celtic has to be REAL competition for places and a change in MONs apparent favouritism. I guarantee you that these guys would play a whole lot better if they felt they can or would get dropped. Yes I know many would say that a mangers/coaches talk/tactics should inspiration enough, but this is the real world.

The following is Celtic Political Rant on behalf of the Half Fool Party:
Early Leavers, you know who you are. You are a not a new phenomenon.
You have dogged Paradise for many a season, and vastly reduced the atmosphere at Our Hallowed Ground.
To any early leavers, I say – don’t come back.
Pay for a season ticket if you want, but don’t come back.
To any loud moaning early leavers, I say – shut up and don’t come back. Pay for a season ticket if you want, but don’t come back.
Then we can have True Supporters, who will “Follow Through and Through”
I Thank You.

Hello the House,
Subject:
How should the "early leavers" at Celtic home games be viewed.
Are they Traitors to the Cause or just displaying Common or Garden Human tendencies that are manifested in the well known colloquial phrase...."Different Strokes for Different Folks".
As Thoreau's mother pointed out, rather succinctly,in response to criticism vis a vis her son's
marching miss-steps..." My son is marching perfectly.... to the beat of a different drummer."
The "early leavers" are probably just as staunch supporters as the "wait till the end " crowd.
In fact, they have proved their allegiance, by attending the game in the first place.
The fact that their leaving early, causes some Celtic followers to condemn and denigrate their characters is flatly wrong and, frankly, unfair.
To pass judgment is easy, to receive judgment is another matter all together.
If one was think about it, calmly and in a placid manner, there are myriads of reasons, why it would behoove a person to slip away before the official whistle is blown.
No, my dear Readers, the "early leavers" are a very necessary and integral component in the wonderful Celtic Universe.
The coin of the Realm that they add to the Celtic Treasury, does not vanish, at the exact moment that they have the temerity to make an early exit from the game.
After all, what really are they doing so wrong.
The reason that they are leaving, on many occasions is because that the match is not exactly straining their emotional faculties to the limit. Usually, the match has petered out to a humdrum somnambulism that can be dulling to the senses.
Or, Celtic have played so under par, that disappointment and dismay have become to much to bear.
As I have hinted at previously, when it comes to the rules of human behaviour.....there just ain't none!!
How one can equate their immature departure, with the bedimming of a game's exhilarating ambiance, defies logic.
'Nuff said.
Doctora Detroit.

Doctor Detroit, youre sounding a wee bit like Stuart Hall there. I feel theres far too many of them leaving far to soon, it gives out all the wrong messages. As well as that the atmosphere in general is dire at home games. Hopefully, as Brendan said earlier, the support will get behind them on Sunday for the full 90 mins. If only more people would realise that since MONs arrival we"ve been in the ascendancy and the nineties, though never to be forgotten, are becoming a fading memory. C"MON THE HOOPS Mark-F

i'm not lucky enough to make all the games i would like to, i've got to earn money to fund my education. people leaving early, don't get me started! had my dad's ticket for the barca game earlier this season and there were people moaning when we had barca on the ropes and petrov flew one JUST by the post!
this is football, we've been rotten the last couple of weeks, but give us the double, please!
get behind them, will do more good than harm!

Doctor detroit, the amount of empty seats BEFORE the end of the game on Saturday was a disgrace. Speaking as one who sat through the debut of 'Bertie' Biggins (midweek to Dundee? - stattos?) I know. The SUPPORTER'S job is to support. That is the difference between supporters and fans (a fan is someone who looks out for the result in the paper) Supporters stay to the end - no matter how bitter
A wee confession - I left the game early once. we were 2-0 down to Hearts, at home, with minutes to go (Can't remember how many) might even have been the centenary season - another one for the stattos - but by the time the game finished it was 2-2. The lesson? NEVER give up. Another couple of examples, also from the centenary season would be the semi and final of the cup that year.
OUR job is to make as much, positive, noise as possible for every minute of the next four games.
-
I smell huns at work. Celtic approach Co Adriaanse?? MON forced to deny rumours that Stan P wants to leave?? Switch chennels and you have Didi Poorshow committing himself for eternity and the dark side interested in yet another super duper Greek defender. Give me a break.
As a sharp eyed Bhoy pointed out earlier, the wording of the Sky piece was extremely dubious. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd guess we have an important game this weekwend. A game that the establishement would rather we didn't win.

p.s. add the Sun's "Villa want Bellamy" chat to the mix as well. Also, if the Dutch guy was really in the running and really wanted our manager's job, would he go public on the eve of such a crucial weekend? Imagine if this uncertainty upsets the team so much that we loose the league. He'd be as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. Beware huns at work.

Good to hear from you, however….
If only people were leaving after the excitement had faded it would be more acceptable. When we were drawing with Milan (the top team in Europe) in the Champions League this season there were thousands heading for the exits with 10 minutes to go.
I had a guy sitting beside me that night who had travelled from Tokyo for the game, and people from Glasgow would not stay to see how it finished.
The real truth is that the Celtic support is ‘softer’ than we often believe. For those of us who care deeply about the club, we cannot understand why anyone would leave a CL game against Milan early. What we see in the SPL games is just an extension of this.
You are right, they pay their money and have the right to leave whenever they want, however, their act robs Celtic of key support and interrupts the enjoyment of the game for many others.
If you want a prediction: these are the people who will soon not renew their season books, and will cause the rug to be pulled from below us.
Rangers have led the way here. Their fans were leaving early a few seasons before ours. They sold only 39,000 season books this season, which precipitated the financial meltdown at Ibrox this season.
How many of the ‘soft’ Celtic fans will renew? How many have already renewed? Will we return to the 1980’s when the stadium was ¼ full?
For all I advocate commercialism at Celtic, this club is more than just a product. Commercial income is there to promote the team, and I expect standards of support from every season book holder.
If we do not demand this, we are in trouble when football is not fashionable anymore.
-
Fair enough, Paul. All but a minority of posters have condemned those who leave early. What do we do about it??
It's a bit late to recomemnd anything, given Sunday's the last home game of the season. We need some initiative to ensure it doesn't happen next season - spend £20m and play some exciting football?? Alternatively, start booing the crowd instead of the players??
Bigchips, with all due respect, by the the fact we can read your often insightful commentary means we are all online and therefore equipped to log on to the official web site and to read match reports for the reserves and under 19's. There's no need to post the full reports on the site. Is there??

There is NO black and white between a "fan" and a "supporter"
I have a great life living in Australia, however I miss Celtic greatly.I look out for the score in the paper,on the net, through friends,Am I a fan?
I have spent close to $3000 (over 1200 pounds)in the last few years buying shirts, hats, all the usual and some more crap Celtic stuff I don't really need. You don't need to be a Season ticket holder to be a "supporter" When you go to the Jock Stein CSC in Melbourne when there is a big game on you can easily have over 100 "fans" all in the Hoops, hats, flags etc(all bought and paid for) etc.even "fans" who have NEVER set foot on Scottish soil never mind Celtic Park pay for shirts etc.We are the BIG fan base around the world that they all talk about,we add to the wage bill of players just as much as any other "season ticket holder"
Hail Hail
-
Celtsdownunder - apologies. You are are right, we have supporters all over the world i.e people who contribute financially but cannot be there in person.
I suppose my point is that those of us who are lucky enough to be able to attend matches regularly should make the effort to stay the distance.
-
Magister Paul67,
I am afraid that I seem to be hovering in the grey area that resides just out of reach of the cognizance of the typical fan.
You did make the admission that Celtic are after all a Commercial Enterprise. Therefore the attraction of filthy lucre takes pride of place in all of the clubs many and devious routes to enhance the Celtic Coffers.
The selling of Season Tickets is probable the Premier method of accruing the necessary funds needed to ensure a healthy bank balance.
From what I have observed regarding the calibre of most of my fellow Bloggers to this illustrious site of yours, rightly or erroneously, I can't help forming the conclusion, that the Bloggers in question are of a very high and commendable standard of True Celtic Supporters.
Unfortunately in the real world, the harsh reality is ,that a large percentage of the crowd that are attending the Celtic home games, is composed of many very flawed and weak human beings.
Not at all worthy of the titular nomenclature which is conferred of the initiated and known to all and sundry as a True Celtic Supporter.

Are you a lawyer?(or impersonating one of Fargos egos)
Can you explain in plain English what your last paragraph was supposed to say? I have a decent education but that is completely beyond me,the dictionary is not at hand.I just don't have a Scooby Doo what your talking about.Excuse my ignorance.

CONTINUED.......
Be that as it may, Magister Paul,
I do beg to differ with your assumption that the "leaving early syndrome" is the thin end of the wedge.
That it foretells the slow unwinding and shrinking of the great mass of Celtic Season Ticket Holders, ending in the tragedy of Celtic experiencing severe financial straits.
I believe that you did use our Govan rivals as an example of the phenomenon that I have just described.
My thoughts on the future of Celtic Season Ticket Holders is much more sanguine.
I fact I am firmly convinced that the Season Ticket waiting list will continue to wax and that the list will add several more disappointed thousands to its contents during the coming years.
As has been mentioned many times on this hallowed site.
Celtic are more than a Club....

Whats the score with the link to Co Adriaanse? Apparently he has come out and said celtic have made contact with him. Looks like this is just in time to start further runours about O'Neil leaving - just in time for the title run in!
Is O'Neil away in the summer?
-
Can anyone confirm the kick off time 2morrow celtic website says 3pm but 2 papers this morning have it at 2pm
GalaTim
-
Is O'Neill away in the summer?
Only O'Neill knows this for sure but if he wanted to stop any speculation or tabloid headlines about his future he would sign a contract for 3,4 5 years!
Rather than look to the papers, tv shows, radio shows for scapegoats as to why he is continually linked to a move away why not look towards the man himself and ask why he will not commit himself to Celtic!
The uncertainty suits O'Neill, as long as the fans are on his side it gives him extra bargaining power when looking to buy players or looking to improve his own deal!

Paul
As I am new to your excellent site I dont want to be seen to be labouring a point here but I feel theres a general apathy within our support no matter what the result at the time. Theres as many,if not more, who head for the door when we"re well ahead. At least in the eighties the atmosphere was better. As an example the 2-2 Hearts game when McStay scored the last minute equaliser was attended by little more than 40,000 but the noise generated was far in excess to most games nowadays. I dont know if theres a solution, maybe its just the way its going to be.

movements at pace automatically generates an atmosphere with excitement and anticipation, playing at Lennons snail pace DOES NOT

APATHY!
The exact word. More and more games are being witnessed by a "theatre crowd". Possibly due to the fair on the park, but surely this is a two way street? WE have an influence on the games. How many times after european nights have the visitors gone away raving about the atmosphere? We all have our favourite european night, and it's a combination of game and atmosphere that causes these matches to stick in the memory. The SPL is our bread and butter, and therefore gets taken for granted, but make no mistake, WE HAVE TO GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

GM, I am sure many of us find the BigChipSuk match reports useful, as we are not aware of when the U19 games are played, never mind when we can read the match reports on the official site.
What do we do about early leavers? Not sure. Maybe asking politely that they stay is a start. I also act in a pretty infantile manner when they look to walk past me as I am watching the game.
CeltsDownUnder, the time and money many Celtic fans who live in distant parts put into watching our team is enormous and contrasts with those who will not even stay 90 minutes.
Regards to those in the Jock Stein CSC Melbourne.
Doctor Detroit (or “DD” as I will refer to you only this once), I hope you are right.
As I have said here a number of times, the status quo is not sustainable in the long term. Either we will progress or regress.
Anecdotal evidence (which is both scientifically flawed and so often correct) suggests that many of our brothers are feeling the financial squeeze. Last year I was banging on about the club and supporters taking steps to close the schism between them.
This has happened to some degree (helped by a greater understanding of financial limitations), however, the jonb is not finished.
I remember Fergus writing a season book renewal letter many years ago. He talked about Jimmy Johnstone making his debut in a heavy defeat against Kilmarnock. He used that story to help share his vision of where he was taking us.
As usual, simple bloggers like our community here can help at the periphery, it is the club who need to share the vision and bring Celtic alive to ever more people (outside the homes of all Celtic Quick News readers).
As for Martin O’Neill, give the man some space to win the next four games.
-
Timmy 7- remember Berties debut well on a rainy midweek night against Dundee. Think he hit the bar with a header, but as I stood in the dreach Rankers end I remember thinking what the hell am I doing here!!!!!!
Also your right we were two goals down against Hearts at CP in the centenary season, a certain Mr Galloway (no not George party political readers) scored for them. Think McGhee and McStay (shot from edge of the box) were the scorers for the Hoops that day, McStay was a definite scorer.
Anon- the score with Co Adriaanse is that he is in charge of AZ and he is leaving after 1 successful season so his reputation has been restored after a disastrous spell at Ajax. The sky story was very badly worded and I think the work of his agent.
I see what makes a Celtic fan debate has started again. I agree with the good doctor and also with Paul, why do fans leave with 10 mins left when we are still playing for something? I hate that really really do or for me the worst was the Huns going 2-0 up and the thousands leaving only time I have ever been embarrassed. Everyone has the right to do what they want but as the situation is now getting worse (guy in front of me left when we equalised last week) how do we stop it, right im going very Howardesq here why don’t we lock the gates until the final whistle?
That would stop people making the decision to leave!!!!!! Lock us in tie us to the seats, that’s the only way this problem will every go away.
Paul’s right the majority of these fans will not renew their books eventually, they see the books as a credibility item down the pub not a cause, not a way of life. Would these fans go into the lions den next week where already I have been punched 3 times, hit with a thuderflash and spat on and im still willing to get my suit on go into the co-or prate section (only place I could get a ticket, fancy sausage rolls at half time etc) and sit in the main stand during the game just to see our team???? Maybe im stupid more in likely that but something inside makes me think im doing the right thing.
Do I think im better than the early leavers, no but I do think rightly or wrongly I care more.
Tomorrow from 1st to last lets get behind the bhoys and fargo I want to see you singing as wellJ
Ps the locking in bit is a joke.
-
Early leavers...Ringpieces, in my opinion. I simply can't understand this at all, especially when there's all to play for. Total madness.
I can honestly say too that I've NEVER booed or jeered a Celtic player in my life, and I've seen enough candidates for that particular practice, I can assure you.
This is the third time I've stated this on this site, we unfortunately have c15,000 "supporters" in that stadium we could easily do without. Oh, and don't give me the old, "We pay our money, we can do what we like". Just stay away, if you're one of the above.
Somebody else will gladly replace you. The guys living abroad would probably part with their left testicle to be there tomorrow.
Each one of us have a duty to back the side 100% in these remaining four games to win the double. Let's do it.

Timmy7 and Ultra... ohh the memories ..or was it more like mamories we were watchin??
Biggins, Mugleton, wee shitty manager who complained when we were still attacking the Kinning Park 11 in the last minute when it was still 1-1. Great last minute goal from Brain O'Neill.
I live in England now, so don't get to as many games as I would like but it doesn't mean that I'm not as passionate.
To boo, jeer, leave early .... what the hell is the point?
WE DON'T CARE IF WE WIN, LOSE OR DRAW.... not strictly true but the sentiment is there.... it doesn't matter what happens, we are Celtic Supporters.
We all have our favourite players and we can all remember some real crap ... but it's still not that long ago that good players were the exception in our team.
I will always want us to achieve more, to reach for greater heights, to win the Champions League every season, knock seven shades of whatsitsface out of the Kinning Park 11 every time we play them.
Very rarely do I get everything I want.
The petulant individuals who are calling for MON to be replaced, booing the team, leaving early in a tantrum because they haven't seen 7 goals ... one little message for you.... Celtic were around for a long time before you and will still continue.
How the hell would these guys have survived pre Stein / Macari's/ Brady's days when a top 2 finish was unusual?
We all know the answer to that... they would probably watching another Glasgow side and walking a lot during the summer.
I don't believe that I'm a better supporter because I watched a lot of crap (in fact I consider myself less of a supporter because I don't go as often now... although my local landlord is mighty grateful when I watch the games live), but I wouldn't lower myself to castigate individuals, some who are barely out of their teens. Bunch of bloody bullies.
Don't scream abuse lads, wait until after the game, grab a quiet word with Bobo when he is leaving the ground and point out where you think he could improve. Thought not!!
We will always debate and criticise players, that much is our right, but to do it at a game, to potentially effect one of own players' performance, to not fully show our own hunger for a victory and criticise the players for the same. Hypocritical me thinks.

Evening Paul,fellow tims.
CeltsDownUnder, good to here the Antipodean viewpoint of a Celtic supporter being brought up.
The game was shown here by the WA
Celtic supporters club,(keep up the good work Andy),where there must have been 400 or so,as you said, with all the gear.$25.00 entry as well, thank you very much.
Ahh the joys of Setanta.Although I have the Celtic live service,we still head along to the pub, purely for one thing. The atmosphere.I have watched many a game from Celtic park, and I can honestly say that the atmosphere is better at the Civic Hotel than it is at the stadium for most of the games throughout the season.
One other thing you forgot to mention. Kick off times for us.
How many times have we been there, meeting at a pub for a 3.45am kick off. Some people I know come about 60 kilometres to the games.
Supporters come in all shapes and sizes, colours and religions. But for me, the ones who leave early would be better off not coming at all,as they do not deserve a club like Celtic

Uttering out of all the comments being made is a real sense that this club is wasting away in the poverty of Scottish football. It is a worn out old debate about leaving Scotland but our festering in the SPL is leading to the loyalty of unquestionably the best support in the world being brought into question.
The Celtic support is worth as much, if not more than a 12th man which has been enough to push the team onto great results such as Juve, Barca and the like. I think the Celtic supports’ (or certain supporters) actions of late are understandable but surprising in light of recent loyalty. Although I am too young to have experience the pre-Fergus era I am told the support was not to healthy back then? Neither were the results by the looks of it! I suppose the point I am trying to make is that I personally don’t blame those who would rather get a head start on the rally out along London Road than sit and watch ANY of the other 11 SPL clubs and a manager that is loved but refuses to commit to this club. Celtic has the potential to be massive but its growth and home supporter base looks like it will continue to be stunted until Murdoch decides it is time. Just because ‘we are Celtic supporters, faithful through and through’ means that we have to sit and watch utter demoralising football from the opposition and increasingly from the home side?
I love Celtic but I am not prepared to pay all the money every year to watch Cally, Motherwell and Livingston again. This is a young, 100% loyal fan until this season that has lost interest in something he loves because it is going absolutely nowhere fast. I fear the UEFA cup final will have been the highlight of my life with Celtic. Lets get behind the team so we can win another league and another cup final and lets do the same for another season and we will lose another manager and it will just be the same as every other season!
BORED
I realise as a true Celtic fan what I am saying is out of order and most certainly does not sound like the views of a loyal or once loyal fan but I honestly am so bored this monotony!
-
Pardon my simplistic view but does no one think there is a connection between the standard of play on offer and the fact that there are people leaving early? Some will be leaving simply because of this.
After all, as I've been bleating loud and long, this season particularly pre Bellamy has been excruciating at times. I compare the people getting there and leaving early to me sitting comfortably in front of my telly screen and finding difficulty at times in watching to the end. It doesn't of course stop me watching the next game always hoping things will be better and desperate not to miss it in case they are. So it may be with the early leavers.
Also please remember that not all those attending Celtic games will come from Glasgow or even be close at hand.
My view is simply that if the product pleases then few will be leaving early. Bet the problem wasn't so acute 2 or 3 years ago.
All of that said however dire the fare on offer I do agree that at this point of the season that I will not care how we play as long as we win this league and I would certainly expect any supporter to be keeping all the criticism for outside the confines of the park where we should continue to be loud and proud of whoever and whatever is put on show in these last three matches.
-
I can't believe that a normally excellent site has been sidetracked by a debate about early leavers. We have 4 games left for a double and we are down to name calling.
I live more than 2 hours drive away from CP and we always stay till the end, except for last week!
If I had stayed to the end I fear that I may have sobered up and given some of the duds on the park the abuse they deserved.
Last week was an exception for many people but the frustration and emotion of it all sometimes makes us do things wer normally wouldn't.
One other advantage of leaving early last week was that I had the chance to spend half an hour with my children before they went to bed.Believe it or not there is a real world out there as well.

Kano
60km to drive to see a game, mad. There's a guy at our club that drives 150km ONE way to pay the $25 to Setanta(10 pounds)just to watch it in the pub with kick-offs in the middle of the night sometimes(Sunday night also) And the fans that leave early at CP think they have it rough getting home a bit late.
But we have the same story happening here Paul67 and all."Fans" turning up,paying the $25 then when they loose interest in the last 20 min. for obvious reasons start facing towards the Bar.It's a world wide problem.Too much of a good thing in the past few years for many of them.
Unfortunately it's the next generation of fans coming through.(derbyshirebhoy & anon 2.16pm I agree 100%)
As said by many now,no time to be talking like this until after the league is won.No reason why we can't win it,so we will win it.
I'm just going to listen to the huns game on the internet.
Unfortunately for me Setanta has changed their mind about showing the Celtic game at the last minute and are showing the huns game instead. The joys of being a CELTIC "supporter".The only good thing is,it's 35C here and there's a cold beer in my hand.
Hale,Rain or Sunshine.
I'd walk a million miles.(might have to leave early to get there on time)

Greetings, Paul67 et al,
If you have no objection, mon ami, I would like to add my 2 cents to the current early departee controversy.
You know fellas, it is like this.
It all distills down to what was reported 6 thousand years ago in a Hebrew Temple.
"Oh! No,Boss. Not the Two supplicants bit. It makes me misty....." cried Vito.
Yes, I am afraid, that's just what is coming, dear amigo.
Two Jews were praying to their God, on day in their house of worship.
First Devotee" Huh,dear God, just look at that fellow over there.
He never, contributes half as much of his chattels, as I.
He doesn't attend the Temple as many times during the High Holy days.
But I do . Yes please listen to my pleas and take care of all of my wants. For I am a true Believer!'"
Second Devotee:
"Oh, Please God, I am not even worthy to be in this Holy Ground.
I know that I do not contribute as much as my fellows supplicants.
I know that I do leave a little early during the Long Boring sermons, that do happen from time to time.
Please overlook my deficiencies in many matters of faith'
But, for all of my faults and depredations.... I still love you in my own way. Amen"
"Gee ,Boss, I think that was so beautiful!" murmured Vito, flicking an errant tear from his eye.
"Yes, Vito babe, I rather thought so too!" Fargo said, deep in thought.
Yes, my dear friends, We all worship at the Celtic Alter.
However, we all do it in our own unique way.
Amen,
Now llads go in Peace and please Celtic ........
Let's get this Championship on the Road..........

What are we and Celtic then?Fantasy world? We are part of the real world, not just a hobbie.
Not sure if it comes down to name calling lostramblings, more a point of supporters trying to figure what exactly is going wrong at this present time within CP,as we are getting absolutely no feedback from CELTIC PLC. Supporters leaving in big numbers which isn't the norm at CP must make you think about it.
Fundamental issues regarding the very core of the Hoops will always raise a good deal of debate online or in the pub and clearly this issue has seen this happen.I've not heard one good excuse for leaving early (at this point of the season)We can all leave early at sometime during the season, but when a good percentage is leaving EVERY week, surely you must agree that there is a problem! And we will try to amend these problems.
Paul67,It was said, come near the end of the season all the bad press would be coming out, like clockwork,it's here,as we knew it would.
Petrov wants to leave,MON is going to leave football altogether('cos they have ran out of EPL teams for him to go to,or he's not good enough?)And suprise suprise the other lot are wanting to buy a "Big Greek defender"
Just one other thing I'd like to say that I have observed.Paul67 you and others have said in the past that the reason that this very website is here is to try and change the biased and negative reporting of our Great club in the various press outlets.I have just heard that muppet Keevins(Yes,your a muppet)saying on the radio that MON is keeping Thompson,Sutton,Lennon,Hartson in the team as they are his favourites, running them into the ground and the youngsters are not getting enough of a run in the first team.Looks like him and others have been reading this site and even (only now and again)putting this point across. So the job you set out to do Paul67 will happen, but as you know it will only get slightly better,at least we know it's going in the right direction.
Keep up the good work ALL, be positive,it may be a few years away but Celtic will become a much bigger team than the last few years,it goes without saying.
-
I see the Hibs could only draw against Motherwell today after skelping us last week, why is that?
I think it's a plot by the Establishment to keep Aberdeen in the race for the Uefa cup place and make them play better against us tommorrow, if Aberdeen beat us and Rangers stay top then I think it's a disgrace and we should complain to the EU or someone for discrimination!
Hail Hail
-
Fargo, you tease.
Carfin bound but no word from you!
Visitors to the famous Carfin Grotto may know that you can buy pre-stamped Mass cards over the counter. On first seeing such efficiency in the delivery of a previously controlled item I asked the lady if she done MOT Certificates as well.
CeltsDownUnder.
I have noticed several points from Celtic Quick News being picked up by the ‘old’ media over the course of the season. Just a point on the various hacks:
They mostly do a very good job – they are there to sell advertising and they are very effective at this difficult commercial challenge.
They use Celtic and Rangers as well to do this. They challenge of Celtic fans is to become discerning consumers.
-
Sorry 5:10 PM, Anonymous I don't buy it. They drew because Motherwell are a hard team to beat at home as we'll find on the last day Hibs are inconsistent and after the high of a win against us they've come back to earth.
I'm much more concerned about the fact that this poorest of all Rangers teams (as everyone keeps telling me) have the measure of the teams they've left to play and I don't believe we can hope for Hibs to do us a favour. Its down to us and no-one else.
-
For the run in, our team needs the 12th man to lift them. Lets do it in unison: no booing, lets cheer the good and the bad. This team will respond to the uplift and the gasps and boos. Our choice, we have a part to play. MON asks for our help - he doesnt do it often.
Faithfull through and through.
-
I've never really bothered too much about the early leavers, I'm of the opinion that they've paid their money so it's up to them.
I don't do it myself, but I think it's a bit hypocritical for lots of people to come on here moaning about the 30,000 leaving with 10 minutes to go last week, 'cause I didn't hear much encouragement for the team coming from the 25,000 who were left in the stadium - in fact, pretty much all I heard was criticism and moaning, and to be honest, I'd rather people left early than stayed to the end simply to boo the players from the park.
-
It bothers me when all the part timers leave early cos they block the view for the rest of us especially on the way down the stairs when they stop to watch when we are on the attack. They might not want to see the whole game but shouldn't be ignorant bu****s and block the view for others.

Can everyone makes sure that CP is a fortress for Aberdeen. Let's make noise for 90 minutes. Let's encourage players when they make mistakes. Let's not give them foul mouthed dog's abuse if they don't succeed- they want to do well too. Don't leave CP tomorrow thinking "I could have supported the bhoys more". Faithful, through and through - let's show it tomorrow. Everyone owes it to themselves to support the best team in the world, 100%. No excuses.
Please, please, please support the team for the whole game - don't leave early. Convince yourself that getting stuck in traffic jams post-match was worth it, because you know that you gave 100%
I'm away to lie down now .... and wait
-
well said peterm 1711 i reckon bout 65% of of us so called tims should hang our head in shame, the very same fans slagged the huns 9 in a row fans for not supporting or willing their team on now look at us now booing and jerring our team ,get a grip and start supporting your team faithfull through and through b4 we turn in to something we tims all hate .
-
Maybe we should support the team the same way we did against Valencia in the Uefa cup a few years ago. Certainly Mr Benitez of Liverpool thinks that the only atmosphere that has come close to the one at Anfield on tuesday (which was brilliant, i've got to say) was that of Celtic Park
-
Hi Paul fantastic site been a watcher from a far since the start.
I dont think you were being political because Howard has been to CP at least once more than Blair ( born in scotland supports Engerland)
Real issue R we bored of MON or is there a journey yet to travel
-
Bit of an empty tonight, God bless Nina Simone and VC

Sorry for the change of subject again.Just been told by my friend in Munich that Bayern has just bought the asian footballer of the year Ali Karimi who plays in the same type of roll as Bellamy,so i doubt Bayern will be interested in him.looks like Bobo will be on his way out.
C'MON the Celts,finish it off.

-
Milkray, good to hear from you.
I hope we are not bored with MON. The team is tired and needs fresh blood, which will happen this summer. Martin of all people deserves the chance to be the man who spends it.
I got some confirmation of the forthcoming spend this week - clue, any idea why the season book renewal date is 10 days earlier this year? I will write the story next week; give the ‘old media’ a few days to see if the can get the story themselves :-)
Glad to hear that Cabbage. I have yet to add my comments to those calling for some business to be done with Bobo (trying not to jinx it).

Just catching up after a week of electioneering. Brilliant post from Taggsybhoy. No coincidence that so many LP members and activists are Celtic supporters. From lots of conversations in the last few weeks the two subjects work well together and we could probably fill several supporters buses from this part of Edinburgh. Good on you Paul67 for your opening article on this set of posts. LIke footbale, politics does matter!
The sun is shining and three points are up for grabs at CP this afternoon. I’ll be there with a few fellow travellers. A majority of 67 is surely a good omen!
-
On my way to CP shortly C'mon the HOOPS, lets get behind the team and hope they don't give the sheep another 2 goal lead

Greetings, Paul67 et al,
Hurrah!
I told you the Celts would Mollicate("Say Whaat?" Vito cried.
the Aberdonians, but I don't think that appelation qualifies for a 2 goal beating.
O.K. then.
How about "Spifflicate?", then.
Better/
Hearts Will be "Mollicated", believe me.
No Problema!!
"Hail, Hail, the Celts are Here,
What the ........." sang Vito.
Hold it , Hold it.
You almost caused a Riot, Vito.
No Party Songs, remember the meeting?
"It was your idea, in the first place, boss!!"
Hush , Vito, Fuggetabout it!

Fargo,
Despite what is often said, Hail Hail, is no party song, so just you let Veto sing away. After he has finished, why do you not give him a rousing rendition of the Rod Stewart hit "YOUR IN MY Heart"?. That is a song etched on the heart of every Celtic supported. i bet you could do it justice.
Good solid team performance and great result. Bet it burst a lot of bubbles across the river. The title is ours well done to all at CP today, players, dug out and supporters. a special mention to Craig Beattie. He changed the game today.

Thanks for your support TimeWillTell, agree, a 67 majority must be a good omen.
DD, the early leavers were few and far between today. Well done to everyone who lasted the pace.
Fargo, you are playing footloose with your anonymity today :-) Most unlike you. Time to get back sounding like the “hirsute” one; a cunning disguise.
-
Much better performance today.I am reliably advised though that the performance of the Setanta commentary team left a lot to be desired.Again!!!
Despite not receiving the Man of the Match award,I thought Sutton was immense today.Food for thought when Bellamy returns next week(fingers crossed)
Martin 42
Beattie looks a player to me.His first touch is improving all the time and pace and power will always cause defences problems.Terrorised the left side of their defence when he came on.
Big Rab was never really troubled, thought Balde was excellent today too.All in all we got what we needed,a team performance.
Two more for the title.
BankieBhoy
P.S. Looking forward to your post on next years spend Paul.
-
Paul,
are you suggesting that the reason for season book renewals being requested 10 days earlier than last year is to ensure people actually renew, in light of the board being more prudent than desired by the fans this summer?! -
Have you recieved info on the way celtic will spend this summer?
Will it be the nightmare scenario of little each year?
-
Andy
No, nothing to do with ensuring people renew.
Yes, I know where they are going with the budget.
For better or worse, we will not repeat the feast and famine of the last five years.
