YES first out the blocks is BAZ67
We must win this game first and foremost to enable us to try and get the treble.
I don’t think we were firing on all cylinders when we played them a few weeks back but I fully expect we can do the business tonight.
Pearson for the first goal @ 14/1.

Any Team News?
Does anyone know if the game is on Radio Clyde or Radio Scotland?
NTL Ireland are showing some Italian match tonight.
-
Just listening to Radio Clyde - the refs are having a balot on Monday to possibly take industrial action after yesterday's verdict on Lennon! Unbelievable! Why not one after the Hearts guy? Another cracker was a caller saying that Lennon has to put up with more stick than anyone else and they said "there's no point in discussing the reason behind this"! Of course there isn't, why not let this racial abuse go on and on unchallenged? I was going to say it's always an entertaining listen, but maybe frustrating might be more appropriate!
Hugh Keevins is playing a blinder - apparently TFOD should get their full allocation of tickets at Tynecastle as one of his friends, an expert in the field of crowd segregation, and with an intimate knowledge of Tynecastle, says that it'd be unsafe! Give me strength! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Mon the hoops!
-
Can someone confirm if Neil Lennon called two Rangers players as witnesses last night in his defence. I am sur I heard this on the radio. If this is the case what evidence were they expected give
First time poster
-
Reporting Scotland just did a piece on the Neil Lennon 'affair'.
At the end of this shoddy piece of TV journalism they spliced together a picture of a referee issuing a 2nd yellow followed by a red (to no one in shot), and then a picture of Neil Lennon walking off the field. Hmmmm, methinks Lennon has only ever had a straight red in the SPL .... shurely the BBC weren't trying to pull a fast one here, implying that Neil and sendings off were not strangers?
-
Man behind the bar - my mates were saying this last night, but not sure which radio station it came from. I think the Herald referred to it in short today as well, but didn't say what evidence or who it was. I think my mates said it was Ricksen and Andrews (although I highly doubt it'd be Ricksen if he's the type to p*ss through Thommo's letter box!)
-
Rossio,
I was that incensed that i tried to phone Snyde up then thought stuff it!
They missed the whole point, Dougal ALLEGDLY swore at Lennon when he gave him the red card???
That's what really pissed Lenny off
The establishment would rather gloss over that fact. The fact that Lenny was "Lucky" to stay on the park was also mentioned but no mention on Fergusons kick's at him how mant times does HE get away with it.
Got in to a debate with one of the huns and his retort was "It's our country if you don't like it..."
the missing link!!!
What kind of reaction will we get from the refs now? Oh right Sproule
Come on the Hoops for tonight!
-
Rossio-
I heard that disgraceful comment from peter martin as well.
"Why is Neil Lennon demonised at every ground in scotland? Well we won,t go into that....."
Why not?
Is it bacause he has ginger hair ?
No.
We all KNOW WHY ....
It would make you sick.
Got to go - got something on tonight.....

Hi Paul,
Sorry to hark back to the last posting, bt I posted my reply before knowing a new thread was up.
Dialupcelt :- If we could only use refs who don't have any bias against the forces of light then it would be a very small pool indeed :)
My take on the incident is that it was poor refereeing, if he felt that NL was committing offences that deserved a red card then that card should have been issued, that's his role to apply the rules as he sees them happen, The incident after the game with the red card was caused by two errors of judgement, the first being S Dougals, if he wanted to take further action he should have waited till the player involved was in the dressing room then calling him and his manager in and explaining he was reporting him for a red card offence, thus avoiding a potentially explosive situation amongst both players and fans, a poor day for him. The second error in Judgement was Nls no matter ho much he may feel provoked he can not react in that way, even when a ref has a stinker his person must be sacrosanct otherwise we have anarchy, and much as that has it's attractions it doesn't work in football. All round I think a three match ban fair and just. (I also have to admit surprise at Nls previous disciplinary record)
-
Anyone heard the teams yet. Is Du Wei in the frame. I am toying with idea of going missing for a few hours and popping out to watch the game here in SF. Long lunch!!!
Couple of things to do first, against the clock right now.

just a guess, maybe swap CB with SM on the right, or SM in the mid with CS up front!

should say, the team is not a guess, just the formation, that is the confirmed team!
-
Good to see he's trying a different partnership up front! with the options we have in this department I thought it was a bit shortsighted not to expirement with it.
CB or CS upfront would be my choice SM is a lot more lively in the 'hole'
TBE, Come on the Hoops!

I'll give you a hand Aldo, as putting kids to bed can be a long job!
Very quiet start to the game, no fluency yet whilst the team settles. Good to see Sutton back in the hoops.

I would give you a hand Aldo, but I'm listening to the offishul site and they always seem to be on a five minute delay

thanx fencelt, problem is he is sitting here in the hoops not wantin to go to bed..i promised him til half time.....
corner to falkirk....celtic counter...shot on gaol, corner to cellic
-
Excellent counter attack by Celtic starting from a Boruc throw and, in two moves a Zurawski shot. Keeper saved for a corner which was cleared.
-
shot from beattie on target, keeper saves.. more attacking play from celtic
-
Warming up now. Nakamura made a good chance for Beattie six yards out but the ball was slightly behind him so no power in the shot.
-
Aldo67
You've got it easy. My youngest just asked for a shandy (I'm enjoying a cheeky wee can of Stella Artois). Might have to nip to the corner shop at half time.
All the best
Corpachbhoy
-
Excellent tackle by Camara though in general we seem to be standing off Falkirk too much and letting them play.
-
textbook tackle from camara under pressure, another corner to celtic, balde heads into keepers hands
-
Obviously I meant for some lemonade to make a shandy with.
-
just wondering if suttons had a few of yer shandies there corpach!!!
good run by maloney, defence clear.throw into celtic half way line

lol, mick ...just shout FREE BEER next time..better play from celtic now, zurawski shot over after good link up play on left.
-
Midfield not really functioning at the moment. Beattie and Zurawski dropping deep so the shape isn't right at the moment.
Good shot by Zurawski, just over.
-
Apologies.
The Radio Scotland link I posted is for Saturday's game against ICT.
Just seen "Celtic" and "listen live" and came back here to post up.
Sorry for any confusion

-
celtic seem to be sitting back too much waiting for falkirk to break up field and hit on counter.not much direct running, doesnt seem to be a playmaker at the moment...someone take initiative pleeze!!!
-
Lovely move down the left involving Maloney and Camara. Beattie miscues from 3 yards. Good low cross by Camara.
-
good run by maloney...think it was nakamura flagged offside.
-
Not a very exciting half, not many chances created. Is it just me or is Stan Petrov completely anonymous?
TBE
-
Watching highlights of Rangers from last night. What a howler from the Clyde goalie for the Rangers equaliser :(
-
Half-time. Very quiet first half, I can't remember either keeper making a save.
Sutton clearly short of match practice meaning that we haven't a ball winner. Petrov quiet, Nakamura nice touches but we're most threatening down the left with Maloney and Camara.
-
A decent first half some nice play especially from Maloney and Magic has been alright as well. We just need to be a bit more clinical we could be two up at the moment.
I would like to see more runs from Petrov into the box because he has been a bit too defensively in the first half. Sutton is a bit off the pace but looked more comfortable by the end of the half.
Defence hasn't be tested at full but they have coped well.
We can do better in the final part but it's not too bad at the moment.
-
We've had a few good crosses floated into the box first half, but no BBJ to bullet them home.
-
half time...celtic edged it with shots on target..need to tighten up wing play and quicker passes onto forwards who are coming deep looking for the ball.
Boruc..nuthin to do
Balde..good tackles and strong in the header..just waiting for the 'beckenbobo' moment in the second half where he tears up the field with the ball at his feet
Mcmanus...solid game up for corners may be an outsider for 1st goal.
Camara..good performance, doing what he does well, good crosses from the left.
Nakamura...quiet game,nice touches.
Petrov..quiet game ,maybe due to sutton partnering in midfield...
Sutton..done ok..seems to be qondering where he is meant to be playing.
Maloney...good direct running, linking well with camara.
Beattie..few efforts on target, getting into good positions.
Zurawski..ditto for beattie.
naka and sutton need to impose themselves more,
keep majic and beattie further up the field and maybe go 4-3-3 with sutton playing behind front 2.
-
Aldo67

Luvverly football. Maloney to Zurawski, then goal.
-
Good goal. Lovely vision by Maloney and pace by Zurawski. Since Falkirk's goal we've been playing further up the pitch, hope we keep this shape.
-
I like Zurawski's theme music they play when he scores. Think someone on here suggested it
"Oh oh oh, it magic,
you know-oh-oh,
never believe its not so"
Rocket of a shot from Nakamura there, keeper could only parry.
C'mon the Celts
-
have we gone 3-5-2 with sutton and hartson up front?
getting more width...holding possesion in midfield better.
hartson dragging his markers wide...
-
Some fantastic one touch football from Celtic in the Falkirk box. Just need that 2nd goal now
-
Much better play now. Good one touch passes with players making good runs. Maybe we're seeing the reverse from Saturday, poor first 55 mins followed by excellent last 35?
-
Wee fella almost spilled his shandy as he's got Magic on the back of his shirt. He's small for his age and Zurawski wouldn't fit.
C'mon the Hoops

Not watching or listening to the match, but is it becoming more apparent that Beattie's value is as a supersub. Never seems to produce when he starts.
-
great cross from camara onto zurawskis head, tipped over bar by keeper.corner comes to nothing.
beattie maybe lacking match prx.
-
Excellent cross by Camara and a well placed header by Zurawski just tipped over the bar.
-
I think Beattie'sproblem is more that he drifts out of position and so doesn't link with his strike partner or midfield as naturally as we're seeing Sutton do now. Mind you comparison with Sutton is a tough call!
-
mcmanus shot off the crossbar,
falkirk substitution,
pace dropped again
-
McManus hits the bar from 1 yard after a corner comes through to him
-
beattie might drop out of position but never out the game..where is stan?????
-
Good point aldo. Don't think his name has been mentioned since a shot in the first minute of the second half.
-
shot by latapy..offside...neither team look like deserved winners.insipid display.

Not seeing the game, but in Stan's defence. Sometimes when a midfielder is putting
in a good shift harrying and hassling, but not necessarily doing anything special with the ball, you may not hear his name a lot.

how long to go?
-
McGeady on for Maloney. 2nd half of extra time kicks. off.
-
Zurawski just not on the same wavelength as BBJ to take advantage of his knockdowns.
Its All Celtic at the moment
-
Young Lawson is on. When did that happen?
Falkirk getting a bit more of the ball now. Celtic struggling to play a posession game.
-
Great skill from McGeady AND a great pass into the box for Hartson. His time on the bench might have done him some good.
3 mins left. Mcgeady shoots at goalkeeper after layoff from Magic.
-
17 corners ... and no goals (directly from corners) I see something that needs work on the training ground.
I must admit, it has always amazed me that BB, who get's his head onto most balls played into the box, doesn't score bagfulls from corners.

What i found refreshing tonight was listening to fairly unbiased commentary.
For all McCall is a wee Hun-he gave credit and praise when due.
Biggest question of the night-was Stan Petrov playing?
-
Thanks for the updates lads. I watched the game on BBC1 until they changed it over to BBC2, which is not shown where I live.
Thank goodness for John Hartson.
John_H. I thought the same about Stan. Maybe it was because he dropped and Sutton moved forward. Not so sure I agree about the commentators though.
However, the positives that I can take from this game are:
* Sutton is back. We have missed the big fella.
* John Hartson proved again that he is, (and always will be) a reliable and dependable goalscorer.
* eh.....We won..
Lubo.
-
John H, I asked the same question at half time. Very disappointed in Stan tonight, while he didn't do anything wrong, he didn't get involved as much as I would have liked.
When he and Sutton swapped in the second half you could see big Chris involved in nearly every attack.
Impressed overall, the result flattered Falkirk, we created enough chances to win 5 games, just didn't get the rub of the green.
Thought Zurawski played a blinder and wee Shaun was a menace, Shun showed good flashes but tired very quickly with 15 mins to go (understandably).
TBE.
-
Falkirk - draw against tfod 5-0 against the Well rocket up the wherever not surprised. Celtic some great moves but a lot still to do.
-
Lubo,
Maybe I should have qualified that to say-in comparison to Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee on Setanta.
-
The defense emerges with credit...did I just say that?
The flukey/clumsy Falkirk goal apart I was impressed by the back 4 tonight. Cmamra desrves credit, and Telfer doesn't do much wrong, young Mcmanus is shaping up and Bobo is returning to old form. Happy days.
Magic is begining to have the Henkes about him - he looks like goals every time he is on the ball in the box. Sutty looked good given his return after a long lay off.
My fears over Naka continue to nag me - a luxury player - great when your winning - not the man when backs are gaianst the wall (despite his cross for the winning goal)
THought WGS was poor on the tele - looked like he was crippled with wind - strange facial contotions - should see his doctor soon. did anyone else notice?
Happy enough with victory but no bragging rights tomorrow for anyone except Lenny who must surely have no fears over his place in the team after tonights game?
-
I thought WGS did ok, he took a little pause over his words sure but thats expected, but I thought he played a blinder when pushed about Lennon.
fair play to him. Keep it in house, theres no point in airing your laundry. Celtic's PR men could learn a thing or two
TBE.
-
Hi folks, not posted for a while.
Just a thought, but if the Scottish refs do vote to strike, does that mean we'll get refs from another country?
Here's hoping.
-
John_H.
I do agree with your re-qualification. However, I just felt that the BBC Scotland commentary team was not impartial tonight.
BTW, I have long since cancelled my setanta because of their ridiculously biased commentary.
I would seriously encourage everyone to do the same, until those mugs are dropped. Please.. Otherwise we will just keep on and on about them. Is the money you pay each month really worth one game a month, complete with biased commentary from those two?
As for the refs striking. Please Please do. It will demonstrate to the world your contempt for celtic..
Lubo.

Guys the midfield early in the game last week against Hibs were terrific. Today no show. To quick to blast Lenny and Tommo? I understand that motivation for such games could be an issue but pride should kick it at some point. I never saw the extra time but knew we would win. At a snails pace. I had to go back to work. Was it me or was that just a weird game?
Got the win though. Bobo was super again.
-
Cultsbhoy !-
how could you describe the Falkirk goal as flukey/clumsy ?
Sutton sold the jerseys-McManus left it for Bobo whose challenge left the keepert unsighted-
the boy Gow took it really well !

Hail Hail all,
Thanks for the updates lhads living in Oz you've no idea how valuable they are to us. Is it just me but Stan never seems to play well when Sutton is alongside him in midfield, does he seem overawed? Was Sutton playing the holding role or more forward behind the front two therefore Stan had to do a NL and so no as effective as he is moving forward?
Any preferences for the Edinburgh game I'd settle for a draw?
-
I take a different view on the defence tonight. With the exception of Bobo (obviously) they seemed to be trying to perfect the art of non-contact defending. They tend to stand 6 feet off the man with the ball, inviting the attacker to run them. I also think they are a bit lightweight.
The Falkirk goal being a case in point. There were 2 celtic players behind the guy, 3 defenders
in front, he was surrounded, but still managed to slip through for the goal. Someone should have taken the man (and a bit of the ball) with a sliding tackle. Maybe accept a yellow card for their troubles.
McManus did well to block a second Falkirk effort when the striker slipped in, but there was no defender near him when he received the ball.
They have come on leaps and bounds since the Artmedia game but over the course of a long hard season this back 4 could struggle. Agathe will make a difference and we'll see what Virgo brings. I remain hopefull.
It has been said here that the current defence will not be the defence we see in a few months time, so as long as we keep scoring more than we concede, I'll be happy until then.
-
-
On the Ref' striking. Does this mean the governing body is starting to understand the relationship with Celtic now must be managed with more sensitivity. Money and power have been gravitating to the big clubs for a while in other countries. However the foot soldiers are less able to adjust since there is nothing to be gained for those at that level. Therefore they will always be anti-Celtic?
-
shocking game, as my mate said I've had more fun at the dentist, you can take any positives you want from the game but from where I was sitting with the very small number of fans who bothered to even turn up, there weren't many, Falkirk are not a good side and we struggled to cause them problems.
The team on the park looks very ordinary, we have little ideas and seems more comfortable moving the ball side ways than forwards.
I have a very low opinon of Strachan and tonight done not a single thing to change that view.
ah well at least the beer is still cold.
-
Evening All - Just back from the match, going slightly off thread here, but a mate of mine asked the question of who was the last player to score a hat trick against Celtic at Celtic park? I cant think and has been bugging me ever since!! Can somebody, anybody help?? - Thanks in advance - Guv.
-
Hi Paul67 et al...
Just a few things, thought the Bhoys did ok tonight. Was a little disappointed after all the good work in the first half that we didnt have anything to show for it. Falkirk were on borrowed time at that point imho.
I thought the atmosphere was very dull, and I would argue that it had a large effect on the players motivation tonight. Sure, they should always be up for the task ahead, it just seemed like it was gonna be one of those nights, a chore.
I felt we were lacking badly in the final third, there wasnt enough bodies in the box to deliver to... sometimes there was 5 Falkirk players to the likes of wee Shaun Maloney on his own.
Although some people say on this very site that BBJ aint conductive to the style of play that WGS is trying to instill the team to play, I would have to say on tonights showing that BBJ is vital and we need to learn to utilise his skills better. I watched the difference in the players when BBJ came on, and you could see that they were forced to play closer to him, and quite a few of them looked to him to make their runs from. Thus meaning, more of us were dragged into & around the box more frequently. Sure some would say it was a slight change in tactics, but without BBJ it wouldnt have been possible!
Nakamura Shunsuke looked different class at times in tonights game, deft we touches here and there, and the speed of his first & second touch is highly impressive. Keep up the progress Naka Sun.
Shaun Maloney was a contender for MOTM without a doubt his running an constant probing were again highly imressive. Slightly over eager at times, but who can blame the wee man, whats he had to do for this start?
Craig Beattie never got any real decent delivery or chances all night. Still class when he comes on as a sub, dont know about being a full time starter yet. He made some decent runs at times but just couldnt find the killer ball. Keep up the good work though wee man.
Defence were all pretty good tonight, full backs being guilty of wasting it at times though... Bobo & Big Mick were first class all night, although questions can be asked about all four of them for the goal.. : /
Well done to Sutty making his comeback tonight, looked good for most of the game then tired all of a sudden, hope to see you back to yer best soon!
Was extremely disappointed that Magic didnt get bbc motm, Latapy did, which irritated me beyond belief! I couldnt believe it, yes I thought he did hold Falkirks shape together well but he hardly moved all night... He was stuck in the centre of the pitch, in the right place at the right time kinda thing, which wasnt hard considering falkirk packed the midfield then sat Latapy right behind them to tidy up... A lenny role through n through, not that he even tackled anyone though. Every time Magic got the ball near the 18 yard box I thought he was gonna do something, his feet being so quick, and we already know hes got a fair crack on him from a reasonable distance. Even the commentry thought he was gonna do summit, for making the game highten when he touched the ball, and getting the crowd on their feet he should have been awarded motm hands down.
Typical BBC though... : /

noel90
I described the goal as clumsy/flukey as there is no way Gow will ever run 45 yards and find 3 celtic defenders falling over themselves to leave him 10n1 with the goalie in his life again. I also thought Sutton was wrong footed but uncharacteristicly lazy in tracking back.
We should never have been 0-1 down, we should have been out of sight by then.

Bellshill Tim, did you watch the same game?
Glennon (Falkirk keeper) was in the hat for man of the match! We hit the bar at least twice! Zurawski could have had 5! Mick missed a good chance! Maloney did everything but score! The finishing was not up to scratch but you cant complain when we created ten times as many chances as the other side!
We may not have taken our chances but you definately cant say we didn't cause them problems!
TBE.
-
The game was dreadful tonight, but I can see that the improvement is there and going forward we look like we can cause teams problems.
My biggest concern at the moment is not the back four on their own but the defending as a team.Mikeybhoy has already alluded to this but we don't seem to pressurise the opposition when they are in possession.
I could have been in that Falkirk midfield and sprayed passes around all night as there were never any Celtic players in close enough attendance to get a tackle in.
I honestly thought that the WGS fitness regime,if it indeed exists, would encourage and enable us to press the ball and pressurise the oposition further up the pitch. It doesn't really seem to be the case thus far and needs to be addressed.
I was also confused by the formation of Naka on the right and Maloney on the left.Throw Sutton in midfield into the mix and you have a recipe for disaster,as I can't forget the Thommo/Aiden disaster last season when being played out of position. Is it any wonder our play was a bit dis-jointed at times tonight?
Overall though,we've made the next round, what odds on Rangers at Ibrox with Dougal in charge for the quarter final?
BankieBhoy
-
just back from the game.
hard shift tonight for celtic. we need to take more of our chances and give ourselves an easier game.
glad when latapy went off just before extra time. he was a standout for them once again.
i think our midfield was posted missing tonight. it's not strong enough. i also think we're being a bit harsh on petrov. did you see him at the end of the hibs game?
he was knackered!
i think we should have signed someone similar to stan to give him a hand.
naka's too nice for my liking. especially in these games when we need to get stuck in.
good run out for sutty all the same.

When I. McCall was at Queens Park at the start of his career, he was asked the standard question in the match programme..favourite other team. Answer - Celtic!

Sorry to bring us back to the Niel Lennon witchhunt but this article make interesting and surprisingly balanced reading

Without the protection given by Lennon and Thompson the midfield was the problem tonight as it was too light. Our defence which only consists of two proper defenders was given no protection as no one in midfield put in one serious challenge.
I also worry about Maloney. The lads got talent but time and time again he fails to deliver an end product. Thankfully he did assist with the equaliser but everything else broke down and he has yet to trouble any keeper despite numerous efforts on goal this season. A Celtic forward/attacking midfielder has to be able to chip in with 10-15 goals, I just don't think Shaun has got that in him.
Another win though is most welcome for our developing side!

No Bread No Cakes 12.19AM - thanks for bringing this to CQN attention.
ALL CELTS & JOURNALISTS SHOULD READ IT.

Kevtic,
Bit cruel on Maloney, who I thought was pretty good tonight - always trying to be positive, and his first touch was excellent. Unlike big Beattie, whose second touch tonight was invariably a sliding tackle!
Got to admit that the arrival of Hartson changed the game. OK, he's a big lump of a boy whose movement is comparatively limited, but the ball sticks to him and his sheer presence and strength gives defenders nightmares. Oh, and he scores goals!
And I've got to disagree with those trying to absolve Bobo of blame for their goal. He actually ran past Gow, then tried a backheeler with his BACK to the player. More than that, his arrival on the scene blocked the efforts of McManus and Telfer to tackle Gow. Clumsy stuff - in keeping with what was, up till their goal went in, a very sloppy and lethargic performance.
Thankfully, we perked up after that and got out of jail.

I agree with much of your comments on the game and despite the killer instinct being absent I actually thought we produced some really good football over the piece. Where I would love to see an improvement is the ball being played quicker to the forwards. Celtic's first goal was a perfect example of this with Naka, Shaun then Magic all executing a delightful move at breathneck speed.More of this please...!
Where I do disagree with you Seanny bhoy is your take on Latapy.Perhaps he was given plenty of room in the middle of the park but my friends and all commented on how we hadn't seen him play a stray pass or lose possession of the ball once throughout the game. I actually thought he merited the BBC MOTM

Apoligies for moving back top previous discussing but, i'm missing something or just a bit slow, but what was neil lennons red card for, it wasnt for abussive or foul language as he did this after his red card, so what did he get sent of for?
-
Any truth in the rumour doing the rounds that Andy Davies is running the line at Tynecastle on Saturday for 'Williamfest' (as someone on here called it!)? Had a look on the SFA website but they've only named the referees there, not the assistants

U got to Cardinal Newman? Franklins still the place to go?

No Bread No Cakes 12:19 AM
Good link, and agree with Kevtic that this should be compulsory reading for all. I have passed on the link to all tfod in my office - I am the only Tim here, so have to wind them up whenever the chance appears!
Spent a large part of yesterday defending Lenny to no avail - they still wanted to deport him on a prison ship (with daily floggings and keel-hauling for added pleasure of course)to Botany Bay (song anyone??).
The saga continued last night in the pub, with the landlord and me fighting the good fight against the assembled masses (can I use this term for THEM?) of tfod and sheep.
Never realised before that there was a Falkirk Supporters Club (Turriff Branch) - until last night of course! Mind you, these same "supporters" formed a Porto Supporters Club in 2003 - something smells in the town of Turra!
Anyway, roll on Saturday.
I am hoping for a draw between the junior and senior goat herders, and an easy win (please?) for us - closer to the cousins, and further ahead of tfod - perfect. Did anyone else hear the sound of a large bubble popping out east last night?
Would like to see a few goals for us however, to ensure the dispepsia doesn't erupt again like over the past 5 days!
Hail! Hail!

Some thoughts on last night.
Surely the powers that be at Celtic should be looking at ways to increase the crowd on cis nights.
How about something really inventive like pay at the gate child gets in free. 2 adults 2 weans free etc etc, it dont take a genius to work out, the atmosphere was terrible. Even if the parents bought the kids a burger or something its coins in the fountain and all that.
If for instance celtic were playing like that last night say against barca or milan then the would be on the ball however they were playing against falkirk and should have seen them off earlier in the game.
The falkirk keeper made 3 very good saves. I rememeber thinking after the first one you wont make a save like that for a long time but he did twice.
We have some lads who have good touches on the ball but it did look like they need more games under their belt in order to get to know what each other is doing.
I dont think I was ever concerned about losing the game we made a mistake at the back, AGAIN, ( no one taking charge).
There is something missing in the midfield its hard to pick it out but an ingredient is missing.
Dissapointed in Beats performance up front. I would like to see Agathe introduced to the team he appears to have fallen out of favour though. Where is the places for Du wei, Virgo and Pearson.
BBJ throws it back into the faces of his doubters once again.
-
morning gentlemen, havent been on the site for a while, but its so pleasing to see the majority of you all now singing magic's and king arturs praises every week, i knew all along they'd both come good, and my bet for magic to finish as top goalscorer at 8-1 looks lovely...i still can't believe that artur hasnt been signed on a perm deal, great save right at the death again!!!
Just out of curiosity as havent been upto parkhead yet this season, are there many supporters with magic on their backs then.?
Rumour mill in poland also says that WGS was/is looking at a polish centre back, but an old one Klos, polish captain, but i don't rate him at all....so i hope he doesnt go for him!!!
-
Last night was a typical home cup game.
There was little chance of a classic due to GS experimenting a bit.
The midfield have never played together before and Sutton was making a comeback after 2 months out.
The midfield was outnumbered all night as Falkirk were keeping it tight in the middle.
The thing that pleased me was that the defence rarely just hoofed the ball down the middle.
When the back 4 were in possession they looked for a player and if nothing was on they knew that Beattie or Zurawski would bale them out with a wide run looking for the ball.
IMO this is a major factor in our long term future. The future is playing the ball all over the park.We showed last year that the big blooter can only get limited sucess.
I would like to finish with a plea to all Celtic fans.
Stay away from the phone ins etc.If we have critisisms of anything Celtic this is the place to do it. Paul has built up a great forum for us to have our say we don't need the phone ins.

No Bread No Cakes
Great article hope everyone reads it. It should put a lot of journalists/editors to shame, but of course these people have no shame, no balance, no sense and the unfortunate thing is if they did, they'd have no job with their current employers.
Fair play to EdwardUrsus for backing the SFA decision but I have a question for you, how do you feel about the media treatment of Lennon?
-
Morning all....
My view on last night....a very, very dull game...even Falkirk didn't look up for it......the atmosphere inside the ground made the game appear like a training session and that's what the game became....
We were playing reasonably but we only increased the tempo after Falkirk scored and even then it was only for a period of about ten minutes........
I thought the defence looked a bit shaky after the gifted goal.....(3 defenders against one attacker)...although they had looked ok up to that point...(Balde especially was dominant in the air once again)....I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and put their shakiness down to an increasingly blustery wind on the night.....
The thing I was more bothered about is our determination to play a deep holding player in midfield even when we don't have to....what ever happened to the traditional 4-4-2 with a versatile mobile central midfield duo...Falkirk were behind the ball for most of the game so the idea of a lennenesque player whether it be Sutton or petrov was just a waste........WGS has taken over MONs fascination with the deep holding player but in a diamond....When Lennon is banned why try and fit an attacking midfielder/striker in to his role?
Apart from that....I was glad to see BBJ getting on as I think Beattie could have played all night and not scored....BBJ is a true enigma ... he goes through a few games and just as people are getting annoyed with his work rate he pops up with a match winner to quell the unrest.....
Other positives:
Good to see Sutton back...although he only came to life/looked happy when he was put up front....
Nakamura's touch and vision is outstanding...(once he toughens up he will be a complete player)....
Well done to the bhoys who attended last night and took the attendance over the expected 2008 last night....( but once again shame on Celtic PLC for not introducing a 1 Parent 1 free child ticket- another wasted opportunity)...

Rumoid - good point regarding the holding midfield role. I err on the side of why play this formation when the opposition are clearly not at the same standard.
I can understand it say in europe and some away games but not when at home to teams such as falkirk, no disrepect by the way.
One thing that bothered me during WGS pre match interview was his attention to detail, re falkirks game plan. Falkirk should be put under attack from the begining, it should be continueous, ruthless and relentless.
RE the plc failure to be inventive in placing bums on seats, well surely they must be looking at ways to do this. Whether its 1 adult, 1 child free or vouchers for child strips at xmas etc etc, they must do more.
Maybe Paul would be in the know if there are such ideas in the pipeline or ideas from other bloggers how to fill the ground during cis games.
-
Last night's game was won in the proverbial canter, Celtic never got out of 2nd gear simply becuase they didn't NEED to. Bearing in mind that Falkirk are an SPL side, we were playing, a side who have held Rangers already. Sure Latapy had a lot of the ball but 95% of it in his own half causing no danger whatsoever..man of the match surely having a laugh.
Sutton in midfield is a complete waste, his value was shown in the 10 mins he went up front. The whole tempo of the game changed.
The low crowd is simply due to people not being interested in paying to see this dull stuff for a non event cup.
No blame can be apportioned to Celtic for not implementing a FREE child ticket..The gate is split 50/50 with Falkirk, we would need their agreement to issue FREEBIES.
An easy win, too many missed chances make the game actually look closer than it was in reality.
Gordon Strachan called it spot on in his interview after the game.
Last year we beat them 8-1 with the reserves putting in a huge amount of effort...yesterday we put in 25% of the effort but could have scored more goals.
-
anyone got a link with the goals??
P.S. Where they as bad as the press were making out?
C'mon the hoops

Watched the game on SKY last night. I could not beleive the anti- Celtic bias of the commentators. Living here in Ireland it was the first time listeneing to BBC Scotland.
Anyway to the game itself. I can't help thinking that GS over emphasises the tactics and formations part of the game. I am not saying ther unimportant, but I get the feeling his style is not paying enough attention to the winning mentality element that was so prevalent under MON. We are not imposing ourselves enough on other sides.
I am 100% behind GS and have been since day 1. He is making good progress, remember Falkirk are a side in the SPL, not that you would have realised this listening to the commentators. I would just like the team to regain some of the 'mental toughness'- call it aht you like.
Overall a satisfying result if not an outstanding performance.
-
To be fair to WGS ardmaca
I have watched many games that were identical to that one under the reign of MON.... the result suggests that the winning mentality is still there....
-
Hi Paul,
Firstly I's like to say thanks to your team for a very enjoyable hour last night, unfortunately it went downhill after that.
Cavansam :- My opinion is that the coverage was way OTT, so much so that I was surprised that he only got a 3 match ban, this is a man who eats babies, robs pensioners, and ferment terror in the city streets stopping the law abiding from going around their business, or at least that's the impression given. To be honest like a lot of folk on here if a tabloid states that grass is green I get a colour chart to check if it's true, they wouldn't sell any papers with the headline. Lennon stupidly loses temper and gets sent off, facing 3 match ban. One final point, if he did take M.Andrews as a witness I couldn't think on a more honest or honourable man to speak for me I'm sure he made a powerful addition to N.Ls defence.
-
Fair point rumoid re the winning mentality. To everyone else out there I am not advocating returning to MON's style of play at all. Nor am I one of those who look back with rose tinted spectacles. My observation was more to do with frustration that Falkirk were still in the game right until the last minute.

No Bread..., Excellent article, I ahve trawled the Daily Record site for an email address so that I can forward it on but cant find one. I know for a fact there used to be addresses for all writers (I almost called them Journalists there).
Mr Phil Gordon is to be commended for his article and has gained a new fan in me.
TBE.

Cheers Edward
I was interested as these articles are definitley aimed at Rangers fans and it's nice to know you don't all get sucked into the mire.
I was waiting for the article with conclusive photographic evidence that Lennon was the second shooter on the grassy gnoll.

Celtic under WGS is a bit like a very difficult jigsaw. Despite the attractive picture on the front it was a shambles when he opened the box and it’s taken a while to work out where the corner pieces and edges are.
Now it’s started to come together but having established some sort of plan and organisation the picture isn't yet obvious. The method is sound though and we have small sections that clearly fit comfortably.
Then you look at another section and fit a few more pieces together and we're probably getting to the stage where we have several recognisable small sections.
Once these smaller pieces start fitting together then we'll see the picture that looks like the box cover, but it's not easy and every now and again the dug comes in and stands on a bit. I think it might even have eaten one of the pieces and I think there's two under the couch.

Blantyre Kev,
Good Post!!! very amusing
I agree with you the Ghord has to stamp his authority on the team which I am sure he will......
P.S. Are you sure all the pieces were in the box.... :>)

What do Plato, Socrates and Abelard have in common??
They have nothing on BlantyreKev!!

All famous abacus counter smokers?

Rumoid, I was holding back from asking the question ‘how often do we need a holding midfield player’ until the current business has passed.
The crowd was so low last night….. I actually bumped into Rumoid.
Even though the crowd was low last night and the performance lacklustre, it was noticeable how little hassle the Celtic players were getting. Are these points connected I wonder?
Edward, agree again. Need to fix this.
-
blantyre kev , brilliant analogy!!
I am cheering for hearts ( well alright definitley not cheering) on sunday lads , they will not be there in the final shakeup so we need the currant buns to drop as many points as possible....
-
Xavier - the game is on Saturday at 12.30 so hopefully the right result gives us a boost going into the ICT match.
On Hearts v Rangers, every possible result suits us. Some more than others of course however having heard the chants of the two teams' supports over the last few weeks...I couldn't bring myself to want either to win.
Draw please.

A fair article about Neil Lennon? Shome mishtake shurely????
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,438-1791560,00.html

Draw please for me too. If your 2 closest rivals are playing then youwant the minimum points to be won . 3 points are up for grabs , it would be better if only 2 were taken .

Remember when Henrik would occasionally get rested for CIS Cup games, and we would struggle against ordinary opposition, and we would say, well this is Celtic without Henrik.
Well last night was Celtic without Neil Lennon. Neil Lennon has a lot of critics amongst our own supporters. Why ? I have no idea. He has been quite easily our most consistent performer for the past three years. He has rarely put a foot wrong; even more rarely (if ever ?) has he had what you might call a bad name. And yet still he goes unappreciated by many. Some of the comments before he signed his new contract were beyond belief. The suggestion, from a few on here as I recall, that Jackie McNamara would be a more than adequate replacement in that role spoke volumes about the lack of appreciation for what Neil Lennon does for us, and how consistently good he is at doing it.
Who reads the game like Neil Lennon ? Who, in our team, has the footballing intelligence that Neil Lennon has ? Who has the work ethic ? Who has the determination ? Who cares as much as Neil Lennon ?
From what they have shown already this season Boruc and Zurawski will prove to be excellent signings. Artur will save them and Magic will score them for a few years to come. The biggest challenge that I see for Gordon Strachan is replacing Neil Lennon if this really is his last season with us.
Mark my words, we will miss him, far more than many of us know.

Excellent post BlantyreKev, there you go, I had to jump on the bandwagon, or be left behind.
I suppose it could be worse we could be left with Rangers' 3D jigsaw and no picture on the front to go by!
I'd take a Hearts win by a single goal, puts Rangers out of contention.

Hello EdwardUrsus,
Apologies for getting your blogger name wrong yesterday (Can I call you Ed from now on?) and also for the delay in replying to you.
Firstly, thanks for your comments. I am in agreement with every point you make. Dougal did have a stinker and maybe I was a bit harsh with my comments on him never officiating at that level again.
One point that you hit on was the timing of the red card.
As I said, I agree with your common sense approach in that Dougal could have dealt with this when Neil was back in the dressing room.
However, it has been said (RealRadio – they do come away with some rubbish as FACT often enough, so not a good source) that a recent rule change prevents the ref from using this sensible approach.
According to Real Radio’s Chief Sports Reporter Ewen Cameron (who spins records on a Saturday afternoon instead of reporting at a match, but there you go eh?), the referee MUST produce the card before the player leaves the pitch.
Maybe one of the bloggers on here could set the record straight on this issue………….
