Been a while since I last posted, listening to the game in work. Me and my workmate Davie were amazed that Radio Clyde openly admitted they were commenting on the Setanta channel they were watching!!!

    How cheap can you get!

I had a fiver on Zurawski to score 1st, 3-0 the hoops, ach well Petrov, what a guy!

  • At 18/09/05 14:21, Blogger Paul67 said…

Thompson is playing in a deep central position.

Camara is playing very far up the field, almost as a left midfield player.

So far this is the best we have played this season. Hibs cannot get the ball.

Naka is the key for our creative moves.

    Half time 0 – 1 to Celtic.

Celtic have controlled the game but have missed most of the chances to tie the game up.

Telfer is not coping well with Sproule, who is causing some problems when he gets on the ball.

It always worries me when we have had so much of the play and are only one goal up.

  • At 18/09/05 14:50, Blogger TheLassieBeattie said…

    Half Time 1-0
Telfer has been skinned 3 times by Sproule. Hartson had 2 good chances to score, sidefooting the ball both times.
Don't think Camara has put a foot wrong. Naka and Petrov are the playmakers.
Hartson tried 4 times to beat his man going towards goal. Lost out on all 4 occasions.
I think we have had about 10 shots on goal to Hibs 2. Let's hope those chances don't come back to haunt us.

  • At 18/09/05 14:50, Blogger fencelt said…

Excellent beginning to the half by Celtic. Fluid, dominant performance. In the last 15 mins Hibs definitely came back into it with little attacking play by Celtic. Midfield not winning the second ball.

Interesting to see what Strachan makes of it and whether we start the second half in the same manner as the first one.

Still not convinced that Hartson fits in with the style of play that Strachan wants, play breaks down too often when he is in possession.

Naka and Petrov playing very well and Thompson started very well but faded near the end. Boruc really looks the business.

Half time. We're all over them. For the most part. One more goal and get Beattie, Maloney and Lawson on.
Sproule is causing trouble but nothing too much. Never a penalty either.

    HT Hibs 0-1 Celtic

Make no mistake this is a good Celtic team playing a very different game to the one dimensional, pedestrian approach we have seen over the lst two seasons. Gone is the long ball up to the lone striker to be replaced by cultured possession football building all the way from the back with an abundance of options in midfield. The space being found by Naka and Thomson will be a source of great frustration to Tony Mowbry.
The weaknesses lie in the full back positions where Camara although commited to the cause continually concedes possession and Telfer, playing against a good player in Sproule, gets beaten too often. Having said that, the team is so strong in every other area that these players are accommodated comfortably. Individual performaces today:
Boruc - Nothing to do and looks good doing it !
Telfer - Skinned a couple of times but competant when on the ball and using it well
Balde - Outstanding again this week. WGS is gradually helping Bobo erradicate all the bad things about his game
    McManus - Vey solid performance
Camara - A couple of good runs. Positionally is getting better
Petrov - Inspirational and a great goal to boot.
Thomson - Having his best game for a while. The one player in midfield who looks to play the long ball. Twice made great cross field balls to Camara and then Naka both of which could have resulted in a goal
Naka - Really settled into the side and playing ablinder
Lennon - Typical Lennon performance - outstanding in a holding role in midfield. Looking fitter than he has been for a while
Hartson - Having to come deep for teh ball due to the lack of the long ball. Had a couple of good chances and he should have been on the scoresheet. Looks fit and full of running
Magic - Suffering from a lack of supply this week but doing his job well. Suspect we will see more of him in the second half.

Looking forward to the second half. One more goal and the flood gates could open.

Can't understand why we were insistant on sitting on a 1 goal lead for most of the game. Some of our tackling was absolutely shocking. What was worse was consistant ball-watching from the defence.

Listened on the radio (bhoycotted setanta this season!). Bit nervy at the end, but what a vital three points this could be for us today. A draw between the west and east coast huns next week, a win for us against ICT, then it really is game on for the season!
    C'MON THE HOOPS!!!

  • At 18/09/05 16:11, Blogger Bryce Curdy said…

A very big win today. Sounds like we deserved it overall, but were hanging on at the end.

Sorry to report the beast is off the hook, at least for the moment. Blackburn 0 Newcastle 3 doesn't tell the whole story. Newcastle (and Boumsong in particular) were dire until Shearer scored after an hour. They improved greatly after the 1st goal to be fair and Owen scored the second before a late third. Bellamy had a decent game and came close to scoring.

  • At 18/09/05 16:12, Blogger johnM said…

It was a disappointing second half but we got the result. An away win against an on form Hibs team has got to be good. Let's not forget that they beat Rangers 3 - 0 in their own back yard just recently!

How on earth did Sproule manage to stay on the park?
Hopefully we can take care of Caley next week without too much drama (I know I'm a dreamer) and then sit back and relax watch the williamfest develope at swinecastle the next day.
I know we didn't win with style today but who wouldn't have settled for that outcome beforehand?
    Hail Hail

Great result. Three points are vital for Celtic at this stage of the season. Strachan kept his winning team, "If it ain´t broke don´t fix it". And remember Celtic are up against 12 men many times, as the incident with Sproule in the 2nd half proved. Great to hear Celtic were playing it on the deck as well.

  • At 18/09/05 16:49, Blogger Tony said…

The first half hour we looked very good, comfortable on the ball, confidence through the side, aggressive, good tempo, fast moving.
    Then what happened?
We started passing short balls, playing across the park and often passing behind, reduced the tempo and Hibs were back in it!
First 30 minutes i was thinking that Strachan is really starting to get the side playing really good football, the next 60 minutes i was reminded a bit of John Barnes with short sideways passes and the end of last season when we were defending the lead far too deep.
Pity Thompson ad to go off, not sure Pearson was the right guy to replace him.
Good to get three points but could and should have been much easier than that.

Another classic case of terrible refereeing by the non-bias Scottish officials - they are of course non-bias as they are professionals... right then.

I wouldn't be suprised if Sproule was arrested for assault after that escapre yet only gets a booking while Balde and Telfer get the same punishment. To be fair a red for Sproule and yellow for Telfer would have been acceptable (yet still a bit harsh on Telfer, but Balde did nothing wrong at all!). A punch, a slap, serveral pushes and an eye-gouge... what does it take to be sent off? I would hope that the SFA take further action, I don't think people should be looking to have players sent off but that was butality. If Lennon gets a 5 match ban for swearing at an official what should Sproule get?

Where did all this 'Mo Camara the worst Celtic player ever start?'
I agree he perhaps had the worst performance ever in a 'Tic jersey in the 1st leg of the A******a B********A game (I can't bring myself to say the name-like those 2 actors in the Blackadder episode with macbeth!) but the guy has steadily improved and, most notably of all, never ever hides unlike some luminaries of the past- Petta, B & Blinker, R. Gie the guy peace until January 'cos he's all we've got!

  • At 18/09/05 17:00, Blogger malone19 said…

I think a major factor in losing our shape was that Pearo was all over the place. He did not look one bit match fit and misplaced more passes than Thompson does. There was a major concern watching Pearson lagging up the field when he should have been breaking his neck to get back defending - leaving Camara exposed.

Hopefully he just needs to gain some match practice.

Mo Camara has still got it all too do,however,he certainly gives everything he has during a game rightly, or wrongly, agreed. That's easy for me to say given my well documented appraisal off him.

I Agree with Fencelt from earlier when Hartson's good he's good, but today having watched the game everything broke down when the ball came up to him, it was walking pace from him, I still think Chris Sutton must go straight back into the team (UP FRONT) not in midfield he's a better link up man than Hartson although Big John scores more goals.

However they do point to us as in need off another midfielder.

FOOTNOTE: When does BORUC sign that contract?Hurry up please!

I am a great believer in having a strong midfield in my team,as this is pivotable in either defence, or when attacking!

Either way all told 3 points at easter road any time is acceptable in my book! Well done WGS and the BHOYS!

    Paul67,

    First time poster.
Little bit of advice from me, to my fellow contributers.

"How to behave like a Celtic Supporter"

    Room101.

Never ever denigrate a Celtic Player in print.

    Privately.....O.k.
The Celtic Team, have enough criticism and 'bad mouthing' from the 'gentlemen of the press'.

When I read derogatory labels and comparison charts of who was the 'worst Celtic player', going back is seems, to the dimness of time,it makes me sick.

Guys, don't you know you are doing the Devil's work?

Lay off the public pen lashings.

Keep your unnecessary public outbursts to private pub chats.

If you do that, then you have succeeded in matriculating from the First Grade, in the fundamentals of:

"How to behave like a Celtic Supporter." Room 101.

    Great Result. Tight, tight game.
I'll take a million results like this one.

    Every player was a hero.
    Camara?
    Improving.
By Jings, he will make a mug of his critics, yet!
That is....... if he has not left a few with egg of their faces, already!

    Hail! Hail!

Just watched the game in the pub, but thought we played a cracking first half. We should have been 3 up at half time, but as I said after the Aberdeen game, the opposition seemed happy to be entering the latter stages in the hope of a quick counter towards the end. I really like the more patient outlook we seem to be developing. Against Aberdeen, we seemed happy to keep possession, even if that meant working backwards or sideways, and again, in the first half at least, we did the same. What will change us from a mediocre team into a truly competent one (at this level anyway), is to get used to using this patient style when under pressure. We seemed to lose composure in the second half, when what we should have been doing is keeping the ball and passing it about like we were in the first half. I'm not sure if a loss of shape due to the Pearo switch was partially to blame, but we should certainly work on it.

As for the defence, I think we're now starting to see some big improvements. The central two were pretty excellent today, although Camara and Telfer were caught out a couple of times by Sproule. I'm warming to Telfer, he's got a great engine and he's always willing to take a pass, but the introduction of Agathe to the side would add some sorely needed pace to our defence. Du Wei will have to come on to a game to punt out McManus - I thought he looked very composed today - and I thought I'd never see myself writing that!

Anyway, a potentially huge result for our season. If we beat ICT on Saturday, it heaps the pressure on TFOD at Tynecastle. They'd know they could end up 6 behind us and 11 behind Hearts, which will make it a huge game. A win against Falkirk midweek, then the ICT game are must wins. I can't help feel this is a really important part of the season - we need to keep on Hearts' tail while TFOD struggle with the champions league. Mon the hoops! It's getting very interesting!

I understand your stance on not wanting to read criticism of Celtic players from Celtic fans.

However what is the point of such a site if we are not able to vent our fears and frustrations.

I think this is a better forum than the pub for this.

I have seen many a Celtic fan argue with another and through alchohol things have gotten out of hand.

This has given more ammo to TFOD who witnessed this than this site ever could.

Sorry, but freedom of speech means being able to criticise and praise.

Hopefully more of the latter will be prevailed upon us ,as a result of a successfull and entertaining Celtic side.

    Paul and all,
Haven't seen the game and heard little of the BBC "experts". They seemed to think that Sproule, Telfer and Balde should all have been sent off. Interesting to hear your comments on the incident, Paul. I would tend to go with your estimation.

As another long time critic of Balde, I am more than delighted to hear that he had another good game. Here's hoping he is getting back to something like his old form.

leckie, I think, was contending after the match that the "coverage" of Lennon's sending off was anything but hysterical. Methinks he would say that, seeing as he is among the most hysterical of the lot. We should be sorting out the likes of Thompson, says he, rather than complain about poor refs. I wonder who he supports? By the way, as a long time critic of Thompson too, I was interested to hear GS's comments about how Pearson wasn't up to contributing what Thompson gives to the team yet. That must be pleasing to yourself, Paul.
Very important 3 points. We on our way.

Dazzling first half, sluggish in the second. Brilliant three points.
I thought Camara was one of our better players, Lennon and Petrov ran their socks off, the central defenders were very imposing but the front two were largely anonymous.
But let's hear it for King Artur, who clinched the points with his best display yet. Get his signature on that contract NOW.
Looking ahead to the game against Falkirk, this will be a chance to give a run-out to the players who aren't getting a start every week.
    How's this for a line-up:
    Marshall
    Agathe, Du Wei, Virgo, Wallace
    McGeady, Lawson, Maloney, Pearson
    Sutton, Beattie
That's what I call strength in depth!

On the subject of the ‘worst Celtic player’ debate: At a press conference Mo Camara was asked what he thought about some fans calling him this.

It was an awful moment for the player and for me. While we could blame the journo he would point to the web sites and say ‘look, that is just what the fans are saying’.

Don’t give them any space to have a crack at Celtic – and remember, what is written here and other places can be pointed to to legitimise an attack on our club.

    spot on shabhoy,
I have never subscribed to the whole 'Hartson is a fat, slow so & so' debate (How could I, the man provided me with my greatest ever living memory as a Hoop-the goal at Anfield)but I have always thought Sutty's most effective position by far is up front. Who would we drop from the midfield right now to accomodate him anyway. It's a quandary-if we drop Harts right now and put him on the bench he will lose fitness and be as useful as a pair of shoes made out of jelly.
Is Agathe not quite match fit yet? Surely he will be ready for next week. He seems the perfect type for the fast passing game that WGS is trying to instil. Let him loose against Caley to exploit the wide open Celtic Park spaces.
Who would have thought that after our start this season that WGS would be having the kind of selection headaches that managers enjoy?

What did Camara do wrong to deserve a 4 and Telfer with a 3? Both Camara and Telfer neutralized hibs width for most of the game! The back four IMO did a great job... however it seems strange that out the back 4 only McManus was not booked yet was probably the only one deserving.

I wouldn't be too fast putting Agathe on for Telfer, he's been pretty solid so far. Why change things? Saying this Agathe does fit in with the attacking full back role.

erm, thought you're being harsh with regards to Camara, I thought he at least merited 6/10 - Pearson's lack of match fitness had Camara dragged right out of position. If it wasnt for the 2 free kicks then I thought Naka deserved a 3 or 4 at a push. He cannot tackle and is hellish lightweight. Thought Bobo was our best outfield player, Boruc - sign him up now.

Spot on with your ratings of Bobo and Boruc. A little bit harsh on the full-backs and Magic. I thought Nakamura Shunsuke had a fantastic 1st half, but faded badly in the 2nd(just like almost everyone else in the hoops). When he fully settles we have a total midfield dynamo on our hands.
A sign of a true class keeper is that he can have very little to do for 90 mins yet maintain concentration enough to be able and alert enough to pull of the kind of save that he did at the death. Please don't let us fall into old habits and let him slip the net somehow.

Must agree with that. It's not even that he's wrong, although sometimes he is, it's that refs start to basically have a disliking to him. Did anyone notice today that he was rolling the ball back to where the linesman was telling the Hibs player yet instead of punishing the Hibs player the ref gives Thompson a rollocking. Django :- Your opinion shows admirable dedication to your team, but if no one is to denigrate a player how then do fans make their opinions known about players they feel don't pull their weight or don't come up to scratch, I can understand not criticising at games but afterwards opinions need an outlet. I can vouch for the fact that freedom of speech exists in this blog, the fact I'm allowed to post here proves that. Everyone seems happy at the score today, so I'm sure you will all be hoping along with me that a similar score for the Glasgow club against the Edinburgh club comes about next week :)

    jamiebhoy,

I have to inform you formally.... that there is indeed a rigid protocol that must be followed by all true Celtic supporters.

    First of all.

The word 'fan' is the shortened form of the word 'fanatic'.

If you are a fan, then that implies that you display all of the rabid and unstinting emotions, of a person under the influence of the dictionary meaning of that word.

Now there is another name for a supporter of Celtic.

    That name is a 'follower'

Aha! Now that is a horse of a different colour!

A fan is a Celtic supporter who is entirely irrational in his love for the team.

Green blinkers are the word of the day.
Celtic are always right, never wrong.

So you see there a big difference in my attitude to many others

    I am a FANatic!

    No half measures. No vacillations.
Celtic is MY TEAM, not your team or his team.

Sorry but it still burns me, when I hear such mealy mouthed excuses.

Sure there is a very rigid Protcol in being a Celtic Fan.

    You better believe it!

    Hail! Hail!

Watched the game today, first half was good, second half we were poor.
I know this could be blamed on various factors but i still don't think we have the correct balance in the side.
Someone raised the question about Agate and why he wasn't in the squad well what about Virgo is he still unfit?

Heard a few rumours that one of the old guard isn't finding life at Celtic enjoyable anymore(Hasn't played for a while)

Last sunday decided to go to the West End for a few beers with a few mates. Jinty's was jumping and was one of the first team squad there totally ratarsed. Now i know players like to undwind after the weekend's game is over but, bloodshot eyes, slurred speach and staggering about like a bag of water.

    A good result today.

First half hour the bhoys play was outstanding. What impressed me most was the off the ball play.
When we did not have the ball everyone was trying their best to close down.

think the criticsm of the full backs today was a bit harsh. they rarely got skinned, most of their passing was spot on. Camara gave us another attacking option. Though i think one of his crosses broke my back window.

The difference between your interpretation of a fan and mines is that I believe a supporter of a club should want what he/she sees as the best thing for the club in question.

This means if there is a player not pulling their weight for the team or not of the same quality as one would expect a fan would hope the player/manager/board member in question would be replaced to aid the development of the team. Celtic are a family - not a collection of players. I do not endorse hurling abuse at players on the pitch but off it we should all be allowed to make our views known. I do not believe people should dismiss players as 'bad players' offhand but should back it up.

For instance - I do not think Thompson is a bad player, in fact I think over the past few years he has been one of our better servants. However, this year he has not shown the same ability, same technique or anywhere near the same workrate as in previous years. This could be down to age, the exit of MON or various other factors but none of these matter. It is my opinion that he is no longer up to the standard that we need week in week out. He will have my support on the field and I hope and pray to God he plays well - but I still hope we bring in somebody better and am not ashamed to make this known.

I want MY club to be as successful as possible. I will always support them no matter if they: "win, lose or draw" but I'll naturaly be a lot happier when we win!

How ironic you mentioned that sentance about fans having an outlet for their opinions...

Well as I said perviously I was in Jinty's last week and this guy was lamenting the players at rangers.
Slautered them he did. Some were just not up to being Premier league players never mind rangers players. That Agentine boy was described as being "slower than Titanic at turning". Some of the defenders were... not very good (adlibing there). Midfielders well those with pass marks were asked to constantly play through the pain barrier. As for up front well keep your fingers crossed:-@ that Purso stays fit.

Who was the guy well lets just say it was one of your very own back room guy's.

Aye and he was drinking shandy's

Want to talk about the Spoule yellow card. Lift your hands and you are off period….right?
Football to some degree is a business and should therefore be covered by normal business convention or law - to what level this applies, I don’t know. (This is what I would like to see tested).

Crying about secretarian bias I don’t think is going to change the situation. Been done there we are marginalized as paranoia. For anyone who has read “Crimes against Logic’ this is a well used approach. Attack the presenter of the issue rather than addressing the issue, discredit the source to discredit the argument. Of course it does not but it certainlty clouds the issue and allow them to talk about the paranio rather than the evidence presented. So claiming malintent on the grounds of religious bigotry has been well worn and fruitless path. Time for a paradigm shift - here is my proposal.

Lets move this onto a empirical path rather than an anecdotal one. Lets take it on as a purley business issue. We are operating in a inequitable business environment, leave emotion out of it.

Investors surely in another line of business would seek remedy for being exposed to an unfair business environment. Being excluded from the tendering process would have any company up in arms…Call the lawyers!!! Unfortunately this less clear cut more like a HR issue. So we need to build a case. I would start by hiring a very prominent international ref (Retired) to review the last 3 yrs of stock footage and set up a team to report back on the outcomes of games of ourselves and our main competitors for the rst of the season. Sample size would be our closest 6 competitor’s games. We must make it about more than just Rangers as this has to be a methodical unemotional process and perhaps played out in a forum less parochial than Scotland. Brussels perhaps.

If we aspire to be a world leader in the sports entertainment business lets start with the end in mind. Let’s nurture and protect our brand.

Any corporate lawyers out there think this could have legs????

    Malone19,

I do not see anything in which you wrote at odds with my interpretation of a fan.

That being said,I would wish to studiously and carefully and patiently point out the following.

This whole stramash started because I categorically, positively, absolutely stated.

"Do not castigate, denigrate or harshly criticise any Celtic Player, past or Present in Print!

    I shall repeat that!

IN PRINT! IN PRINT ! IN PRINT.

The ridiculous arguments back and forth between myself and others have have not had one thing to do with my original Piece of Advice, on a Celtic fan's proper hehaviour in the Public Eye.

Our good friend, Paul67, picked up on my statement, immediately and agreed.

Do not do the Devil's Work!

This is a Public Forum, for Gosh's sake!

    Use your heads.

Now there is a world of difference between criticism and public encouragement.

There is no harm is discussing how a particular Player displayed his talents on that particular day.

That is healthy and should be encouraged.

The difference comes when past performances are brought into the criticism.

Each game is different, past is past.

If a player is not performing consistently well then that is a matter for the manager.

It is an exercise in futility for a fan to dig up all of the past performances of the player under discussion.

Criticism should always be constructive, with a solution to the problem proposed.

Otherwise, it amounts to a bunch of fans, singing to the choir.

As I see it, I am in the minority in my opinion on this wonderful site.

Well, gentlemen, continue on your merry way thinking as you do.

But as I have proudly stated.

    I am a Celtic Fan!

    I eshew the term Supporter.

Telfer had played a pass to another player his back was to Sproule. As the pass was released Sproule clipped Telfer's heel/foot.
Telfer turned round and reacted to Sproule by facing up to him. Sproule pushed his face into Telfer chest and started to grapple with him. Both players were trying to grab each other. Bobo came in and separated Sproule, he had him by the jersey but was taking him away. Sproule tried to scratch/punch Bobo. Bobo had him from behind (bet that hurt) and tried to pull him away, Sproule appeared to shake Bobo off it looked as if his elbow made contact.

Honest i tried not to embellish the above.

When Thommo was sent off Refs. supervisor McVica? stated that Dougal had followed the letter of the law... Well why when it's Celtic does the rule book go out of the window.

Big Derek always said if you raise your hands you have to go.

Just remembered, when Bobo tried to act as peace maker and take Sproule away the ref was caught up in the melee.

So that's Telfer and Bobo booked and Celtic can't do anything about it! Fair... Well ask the SFA.

Result significantly better than the performance today- but isn't that what champions are about?

This could have been a real banana skin for us, Hibs are playing well and ER is a difficult place most times.

    Negatives:
1.Took our foot off the gas big time second half- why?
    2. Hartson: slow, ineffectual, unfit.

    Positives:
    1. Another clean sheet confirms our defence is improving
    2. Boruc: a good keeper at last!

The referee was very leniant towards Sproul. Expect the press to come down on him like a tonne of bricks. Not.

Overall, a great result, let's beat ICT next week and then sit back and watch the Family of William tear itself to bits on Sunday!

My thoughts, we were great for 30 mins, ok for 15, then shocking for 45 or should I say the second half. Hibs should have bagged a draw at the death when a simple inside ball had not just 1 but 2 Hibs players ready for a tap in. The game reminded me way too much of last season. We go 1 up but concede late on.
A few player mentions, Hartson poor, Pearson desperate. Boruc dependable, Lennon industrious. Good result but overall a poor performance.
Remember Hibs played a european tie on Thursday but they dominated the second half and looked a lot fitter. Thats very worrying!!

In the interest of putting the boot to lazy journalists...err...journalISM...:)Below are the Laws of the Game. This stuff about 'if you lift your hands, you have to go', is an interpretation of journos, not necessarily something the rules require.

The actions that refs are expectated to take are as much governed by precedent, as they are by the actual laws. Two players grabbing each other by the scruff of the neck does not HAVE to result in dismissal. I have seen many a stramash in the epl where the ref restarts with a caution or two and a free kick. Only in Scotland, and in matters relating to Celtic, does hysteria rule the day.

One thing that the ref should have done today, was to assess the entire situation before throwing cards around. A sensible analysis would have been:

    Sproule was the instigator, and was extremely aggressive;

    Telfer, once fouled and subjected to aggression, responded aggressively;

    No other player appeared to act malevolantly. Everyone else involved was unwisely trying to seperate the combatants;

Fairness would have dictated that Celtic would not be punished more than Hibs.

All of that being said, the options were:
    Sproule - Red
    Telfer - Yellow
    Balde - verbal warning

It would not have been amiss to have gone with:
    Yellow
    Warning
    Nothing.

The most important thing for the sfa to focus on is that there are few ABSOLUTE rules. However, there is a real need for consistency within the league.

I am all for sensible refereeing. But common sense should not be applied only where it hurts Celtic.

    Sending-off offences

A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences:

is guilty of serious foul play
    is guilty of violent conduct
spits at an opponent or any other person
denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
receives a second caution in the same match

    Hi All

excellent result, remember Hibs beat our city rivals 0-3 a couple of weeks ago.

Only got to see the 2nd half - for me Pearson looked short of confidence not wanting to take responsibility on the ball- this will hopefully change if he gets a run in the teams

Nakumara seemed to run out of gas and we certainly missed his through balls later in the game - I hope he is eating properly! It is a shame he and Maloney have not played much together as I think they could click.

The defence were much better at closing down crosses and were only really caught out by a couple of well placed passes through the middle when they had already been pulled out of position by good play - fortunately Boruc is a class act and looks very hard to beat one-on-one

Sproule was lucky but Telfer did make an aggressive move towards him - IMO it is best that all the protagonists were booked as it means no further action can be taken by SFA - I noticed Hugh Dallas scribbling furiously after the incident

Good result today if not a great second half performance. Slowly starting to get things right. Boruc has been outstanding so far this season.

Sproule (bluenose from Castlederg)should have walked for lifting his hand twice...

I don't question your love of Celtic for one second, but, like others, resented your suggestion that my criticism of a player who left the club five years ago somehow makes me an inferior fan to yourself.

I completely stand by my comments about EdwardUrsus. I might add that I have not conversed with him personally on this site at any point, and simply read (and admired) his balanced and intelligent thoughts. I do not like 'your average Rangers fan', and despise most things that club stands for, but our friend simply does not come into the category of 'your average Rangers supporter', and to pretend that every Celtic supporter is somehow more worthwhile than every Rangers supporter is delusional.

This site is different from any other. I claim zero credit for that. I post fairly infrequently and it is Paul, Negative Anon, James Forrest, p8ddy, weeron and others that make this site what it is.

You will always wind people up the wrong way if, in your first post, you are perceived to be criticising people who have contributed since the site started.

In saying all of that, may I offer you an olive branch. Your love for Celtic is unquestionable, and you seem like an intelligent guy. Please consider your 'resignation' and perhaps just be a bit less hasty to walk away. I hope I have not seemed confused.

I don't have the stats to hand but Not The View once compared penalties given over a number of seasons and they came about about equal between Celtic and Rangers. The argument was that this would be expected as Celtic and Rangers both pressure teams, play the game in their box and gain penalties as a result. Of course someone then pointed out that further analysis may reveal that Celtic's penalties were awarded when we were ahead while Rnagers were awarded at more critical times in games.

However, in season 2002/3 Celtic and Rangers finished separated by the merest of margins in goals with the same points. The significant stats were very close except on two areas. The first was the number of penalties awarded. I think Rangers had around 12 that season ( Bazza scoring 20+ goals) while Celtic were awarded 2 or 3.

The other stat which showed divergence was the number of opposition players sent off. Over the season Celtic's opponents had 1 or 2 sent off while teams playing Rangers had 10 or 11.

I find it difficult to come up with a rationale that explains why two teams so close together in points, goals scored and goals lost should have such difference in these two stats.

    Can anyone help?

to add to the ongoing debate.

everyone has his/her own views on the 'tic.
Have read this site for a long while and although some moan more than others, everyone contributes to make this as good a celtic site as you will find.
If we were winning 10-0 everyweek and making millions in profit we would still find something to moan about.
We do not live in a eutopian world where everyone wears green tinted glasses and if we did ut would be the death of great sites like this.

I know why dont we discuss whats on tv tonight like some of the clowns on other celtic sites.

Nothing personal against Muggleton, but he was a keeper in the worst 'Tic team ever, and was a wee Luigi signing.

So....you are not saying he was one of our worst players. Just at the wrong place, wrong time. I've never met CM. Living in Canada, I read reports, talked to family at home, and did see one of his (few) games for Celtic. Easter Road. Right after the Fergus Takeover. 0-0, Simon Donnelly making his first appearance off the bench.

I asked a guy in the terracing what he thought of CM. Without hesitation, he said: 'Big Packy will never see that jersey again!'. CM played well that day, taking crosses in a way few Celtic keepers do. Of course, Packy DID see the jersey again. Luigi got fired, and his signings got sent down the road as well, as TB brought (and kept) his own gang.

So, maybe the truth is out there. Maybe Muggleton was FAR from a poor keeper. Maybe lazy journo traits among us just perpetuate some myth.

Again, not having a go at you, Jamie. I have always wondered where this 'worst player' tag came from in relation to a player that (maybe one poor night at Rugby Park aside) seemed quite competent by most accounts of the day.

What do the rest of you think?

django - get your ass back on to the site - its needs folk like you to educate some on the traditions of the celtic support - but at the same time consider this place to be like a virtual pub - a celtic pub - with the odd blue-nose too - your voice is more welcome than the irrational, unreasonable & blinkered wgs and mo dissers

    Hi guys!!

Today............. wow, THAT was an important victory, with good performances again from the back line. Shame that the forwards didn't do more in the first half or we'd have been out of sight. The big keeper continues to impress; SIGN THAT MAN UP NOW PL.

The big debate can now start on what result we would prefer next week in the Edinburgh Huns V Glasgow Huns game. Up until today, I'd still have taken a Hearts win and thought it the best result, but I think now that the draw is the one to hope for.

Both Rangers and Hearts must come to Celtic Park before we go away, and if we keep up the good work we should be able to do the damage. A draw next week will knock Hearts bandwagon off course a little and remind them that they haven't DONE anything yet. It will also move us closer to them and further away from Orcs XI at the same time. My own personal neurosis vis-a-vis Rangers will just have to wait until they come to Celtic Park. There, we can put them out of the picture - 8 points off the mark if the results next week go according to plan and neither side slips until then. Provided that Hearts don't swing TOTALLY off the rails, they too should maintain a decent gap over our Snake Mountain brothers and sisters.

Today was a tough one - arguably our biggest test since Motherwell on the first day of the season. There was an expectation amongst our friends in the press that today could be the day that the Celtic resurrection stalled, and it didn't. A good away victory and all credit to the bhoys for coming away with it.

If Hearts beat Rangers the SPL is a 2 horse race?

Henri Camara took his goal well for Wigan - what's that all about?

Julz1888, I think McLeish will leave at the end of the season, I cannot see Murray sacking him. The manager is better than the situation he is having to deal with. He has been forced to downsize a budget and has done so, while delivering two leagues and too many cups to count.

McLeish will go to the Premiership, Murray will do well to find another who can deliver the same.
