This is probably the closest I'll ever get to first - all the best today folks.
-
Listening to Radio 5 Live, the commentator was saying what a brilliant idea it was for the Wolves v Southampton game to start with a minute's applause for George Best. I'm sure the great man himself would have been happy to hear football fans clapping and cheering in his memory.
And it takes away the temptation for drunken buffoons to shame the club.
Let's show the football world our decency by making a lot of noise today for a legend of the game.
Then let's keep making a lot of noise for our own Bhoys.
-
a little bit bemused over pearo.aiden showed with hard work chances will come but you need to take them.
-
sean swayne
It's typical pre-match media coverage. 'Apparently' Aiden said the same thing - now they report that he's loving it and working hard.
Is the game on TV anywhere today?
I'm going for a more coservative 2-0 victory today; BBJ and Naka to score (depending of the ref actually giving us any free-kicks today).
Good Luck Bhoys, and keep the complacency locked away.
-
Guess not then... Where's Naka?
Ryan Conroy on the bench... suprise.
Boruc
Telfer
Balde
McManus
Camara
Thompson
Petrov
Lennon
McGeady (I think?!?)
Sutton
Hartson
Didn't catch most of the bench(Zurawski's on it).
Not a very create team put out, hope they can play well.
-
If we had a fully fit strike force we would hammer them but I still think we will put three past them!
Any team news yet?
-
Anyone got any team news?
-
thanks malone
-
Naka had the cold and missed training yesterday.
-
According to Radio Clyde, No Nakamura or Maloney. Thompson and Sutton to start

woo hoo!
Bench includes Magic Agathe .
Generally miserable afternoon, cold, dark grey and wet.
-
Can someone clarify what was just on Radio Scotland - must have been a dip in reception, but thought I heard Chick Young standing up for Celtic re BBJs comments midweek.
Nah - surely not? Fat boy and sniff still disparaging as always, but at least they did point out that they are
Fourth in the SPL
Fourth in the SPL
Fourth in the SPL
Fourth in the SPL
Curly
-
Thomo deserves a start after his performance for the reserves. Agathe is never going to feature under Strachan. I hope this doesn't mean Stan out on the right again.
-
This is a great chance for us to show the rest of the SPL what we can do on the back of the wins last week.No disrespect to dunfermline but lets not take our foot off the gas and be as ruthless as we know we can be.
-
last minute prediction, cant believe i'm no tmaking it today, gutted! 5-0 today, Sutton hat-trick!
-
It's all handbags on Sportsound... quite embarrassing really! Shows the quality of the media in this country!
-
Agree with Pabloooooooo, aiden to start on right with thommo left, score a couple of early goals, then mix it up and go for the kill.
-
Today's subs:- Marshall, Wallace, Pearson, Agathe, Virgo, Magic
-
Hallo Bhoys & Ghirls.
I've got about 2 weeks of CQN to catch up on after the game.....happy days(my new job doesn't have any internet access-Bawbags, I'll have to start working now!).
What exactly is the problem with Naka today? Is WGS simply giving him a rest? Or is he slightly worried about the Pars cloggers? Hope it ain't a long absence.
As I stated long ago, I hoped that a double header victory over TFOD could be the start of a real golden era for WGS. Now that dream has been attained, who is gonna stop us out there now? Eh? Come an have a go if you think you are silky enough!
I'm off to make a lot of noise now for the Hoops and the one and only Georgie Best.
Enjoy the game. And for all the overseas and away from home Lhads and Lhassies-Hope it ain't too tortuous sitting at your PC waiting for news of a goal.
Keep up the good work Paul.
Hail hail

Traynor was arguing that Rankgers had most of the press coverage due to them being mince. This was in response to John Hartson saying that Celtic did not recieve the plaudits that they should due to Rankgers situ. Derek White disagreed with Traynor who in his usual bullish style shouted down White. Chick young agreed that Celtic should have had more good press if you can put it that way and this resulted in a row between Traynor and Young. Bullish Traynor as per just ups the volume in his voice - I do not like that man grrrrrrrrr. Airdie supporter aye right and Chick young St Mirren aye right.
-
Looks a bit like last season's teams - midfield and upfront especially. Could have done with at least one of Naka and Sean. Still, we can have no excuses for not beating the worst team in the league at home.
-
Guys can someone tell me where I can access the game on the web, can't make it today and not used to having to do it this way!
5-0, magic scoring twice from the bench!!
-
Good afternoon lads, hope to be keeping up with the updates today as I´m doing a shift of work.
New look to the midfield today.
I Sent in my vote in for the best EVER team on Radio 5 live. I resisted the urge to put four poor other teams in addition and so I also put in, in descending order,
Brazil 1970,
France - World and Europeanchamps,
Man U treble year
Welsh Rugby 1970's (it´s more of a punters´ sport in the valleys isn´t it?)
I hope the Celts can brighten up the Glasgow afternoon,
Come on the CELTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
First time poster, long time reader. Theres only so long you can stay on the outside looking in.
Disappointed not to see Magic involved today. I would rate him as our best striker. Hope to see him getting another run in the side
-
Game can be heard here:-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/sportsound/
-
Is anyone having problems getting the game on radio online?
-
V. quiet start, a couple of misunderstandings in the Celtic defence but no damage done.
-
0-1 Dunfermline score.
Headed acroos goal, lax marking made goal easy.
-
0 -1 Goalkeeping blunder
-
Goal has wakened the fans up. lets hope it wakens the players too. At the moment it sounds like we haven't settled down, "pedestrian" pace according to the commentators on Sportsound.
-
Can anyone tell me how the team is set up, who's upfront and who's in midfield?
-
Hi Scotty,
Sounds like McGeady on the right and Thompson on the left. Both of them seem to be cutting inside alot and this, allied to the full backs not getting forward means we are lacking width at the moment. Sutton and Hartson seem to be upfront.
All of this gleaned from the radio so may not be accurate.
-
Very nearly 0-2, slack defending again and a great save by Boruc.
Dunfermline keeper not bothered yet whilst we seem to be "on the rack"
-
We sound sluggish, no chances yet?
-
This soungs terrible, weem to be at 6's and 7's. MON the hoops!!
KTF
-
Third corner for Dnfermline, none for Celts yet. Can't even recall hearing of us in the Dunfermline penalty box.
Corner comes to nothing.
WGS having a go at Sutton for not being involved enough. Wants earlier passes to the front two.
We now get a corner...........cleared.
-
Celtic yet to have a shot at goal.
just got first corner
-
"weem" should read "we seem"
-
Some already mentioned that this team looked similiar to last years team selection.
Any real surprise about the performance?
Can't believe I gave my ticket to my mate's girlfriend...
-
Motherwell 1 0 Hearts.
Meanwhile not alot happening at Parkhead
-
-
Hearts are 1 - 0 down at Motherwell
-
What's the team and fans reaction?
I'm freaking out here!
-
Team, fans, management, bloggers all frustrated. Fans very quiet but yo can hear their frustration.
Strachan encouraging more route one football to get us into the box.
As somebody else says it sounds like last year's performance. Nakamura and Maloney being badly missed.
Some boos can be heard as the half-time whistle blows.
-
Seems to me the bhoys are feeling the absence of the artful locksmiths Nakamura and Maloney...At the moment its aw dubbed up! But there is a reason for that...Petrov very frustrated by the lack of movement in front of him....as I am..
Should be 2-0...Dunfermline players (particularly Ross, Hunt and Mason) seem to be inspired by the stage...
Boruc saved us and was none too happy with defense....
Here is hoping that GS gives them the motivation to deal with Dunfermline they way they should....
-
I know we have a charitable side but this is ridiculous
-
Paul,
Watching the game on Channel67,
My sum up of first half:
Celtic are turgid.
There is no mid-field general.
Midfield is static.
Thompson, Sutton and Hartson, statues in a shop window.
Nakamura is so badly missed.... it is so glaring that he is the Celtic mainspring.
McGeady is way, way out of position.
He is wasted, on the right hand side.
Strachan must notice this..
McGeady must be moved back to the left.
Thompson should be dropped in the second half.
Moloney is so so missed.
Celtic are playing into Dunfermline's hands by not holding the ball.
Celtic need to take on more players on the run.
That is the key.
Dunfermline is packing the Box.
Celtic must take the ball into the Box.
I do not think that Celtic have had a shot at their opponent's goal!
Petrov is very unimaginative,Lennon is Lennon.... not a good man if you are looking for an intelligent spark.
All in all..
An extremely poor first half for Celtic.
In fact, I just realised that Sutton was playing.
I am not being sarcastic.
Sutton was deplorable!
Looking forward to Big changes in personnel in the second half.
Otherwise................??
-
Hopefully the idea of two big men up front will be banished after that first half performance.
I accept GS has been forced into the selection by injuries but with Dunfermline dropping deeper in the second half well need quick passes and movement, something which Sutton and Hartson aren't accustomed to.
Magic up front with Sutton dropping deeper. Heres hoping
-
Hate to say it but Sutton and Thompson are over the hill, Thommo has nt had a decent game in a year
-
Aberdeen, Motherwell and Kilmarnock who are all just below Rangers are all winning at half time.
Lethargic Celtic just after beating Rangers has a taste of the Hibee game at the end of season last year.
This is where we will be tested. We can expect to always be in control. Its important that the complete dynamics of a team are tested. We need to be able to come back and sneak a win. If we do it could be a VERY good weekend, especially if Hibs do the buisness and results stay the way the h.t scores indicate - us excepted of course.
Will be interesting to see if there is any changes for the second half
Hail Hail
MON the hoops
-
last seasons failed team failing again. Without Nakamura we are lost.
I would bring on Wallace, who at least will be match fit.
Defence is looking tired, needs freshened up.
-
Let´s hope it´s a game of two halves cos I´m as sick as a parrot
-
I would agree with you there Paul but surely it's worrying that a few injuries are dictaing a change in tactics.
As the season progresses we will pick up more injuries and by losing the likes of Nakamura and Magic, who are vital to our new style of football, is this the sort of performance we can expect?
We'll not send out the SOS yet but just something to think about
-
Extraordinary to see such a poverty-ridden performance after our fine form of recent games.
We´ve lost our two most creative players but the most striking thing is our lack of mobility. At one point Petrov held the ball in midfield 35 yards out for what seemed like 10 seconds. There were four players directly in front of him, every one of them standing stock-still. Petrov wasn´t happy, and quite right too.
Sutton and especially Hartston are having poor games, they haven´t had much service but what little has come their way has been wasted. Thomson has lost possession a few times, and done little else. I bet Strachan is wishing he´d listened to JohnBhoy and given Pearson the nod instead.
I´m glad I´m not a manager....
-
No changes for the start of the 2nd half for either team.
-
Paul,
Just spoke to my sister.
The first thing she said was McGeady is being wasted on the right hand side.
It is that obvious.
See if Strachan does the needful.
Very interesting....
Paul, I see that we agree,Naka is so sorely missed that it is criminal, that Celtic so depend on his wiles.
The main point of the first half.
Not one effective shot at Dunfermline's goal.
-
zurawski and agathe warming up
-
Fans getting behind the team. Mc Geady shot and keeper has his first save of the game.
-
Shot on target from McGeady from 30 yards, 1st of the game. Easy stop.
-
Better pressure from Celtic, still not getting in behind them but managing to play closer to their box than in the first half. Deflected shot from Petrov, corner, nothing came of it.
-
We seem to be playing much higher up the pitch with McGeady coming more into it (still playing on the right).
I think there have been more crosses into the box and shots in this half so far than in the whole first half.
Still losing possession too easily, McManus being guilty of that twice in the last couple of minutes.
Commentator saying that he hasn't seen Celtic so static this season.
-
The Celtic TV commentary team are providing some light relief. Stan tracks right along the half-way line with 11 Dunfermline players in front of him: "Petrov surges forward".
-
Header from Sutton, easy save. Better stuff though.
-
I dont think we are a one man team, Nakamura often fades in and out of games for whatever reason and we still play well. Maloney is a miss too and I just cant help thinking that a few of the newer players do not like playing with Thompson.
This may be the performance that makes WGS pick up the phone to Roy Keane.
If hope Sutton hasn't been rushed and its a case of him and Zurawski being re-introduced.
If not I would rather see a younger striker from the youth team drafted in even if it is just for one game
-
More pressure: we're starting to play balls into the box more regularly. McGeady has shown a bit more. At least we look as if we want to win.
Magic about to come on.
-
Thomson off, Magic on.
-
Sutton back into midfield. Petrov has gone to right midfield, McGeady to the left, Sutton and Lennon in the centre.
-
looks like substitution for Celtic,
MAGIc for THompson!
Yes!
-
Time to panic
-
Petrov switched to the right, McGeady to the left, Sutton and Lennon in the middle of midfield.
-
Strachan listened to my sis.
Good for her!
McGeady on left,Petrov on right.
-
We are all going to die I tell you..... Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
-
Did WGS watch any of the videos from last season?
-
this sounds shocking!!!!!!!!!
-
Corner to Celtic following good movement and shot from McGeady.
Telfer header over the bar.
-
The pattern of the game has changed a lot from the first half. Dunfermline are still defending deep but we´re making possession 25 yards out and worrying them. I think a goal is coming.
-
Shot from McGeady, deflected for corner.
Corner comes to nothing.
Sounds like McGeady switch paying off.
-
Telfer free header from a corner, high and wide.
-
Come On Celtic !!!!!
Need to score soon...
-
Get Wallace on, at least he can beat a player.
-
Bring on Pearson and give us some more penetration from midfield.
Come on Celtic.........
-
I can smell fear............
-
Gave my ticket away because I thought it would be straight foeward.
Unfortunetly so did WGS and the team.
-
Sutton great chance, loads of time running onto the ball 20 yards out - awful effort.
-
Dunfermline packing the Box.
Celtic must Hold the ball, it is so obvious, that that is the proper strategy.
Game is turning in Celtic's favor, because of Magic's running threat.
Sutton should be taken off.
Absolutely a poor duo of Sutton and Hartson.
Terrible decision by Strachan to play those two Automatons together.
-
me thinks some of the celtic players thought the league was already won. Do these people never learn?
-
Sub Pearson warming up.
-
Camara off for Pearson.
Come on the Bhoys...
-
Pearson on for Camara, to 3 at the back. 3-4-3 according to the Celtic TV commentator.
-
Pearson on for Camara
-
Penalty .... Not Given
-
how long to go?
when did second half kick off
-
Stonewall penalty denied, McManus caught at speed.
-
stone wall penalty not given> what a f****** surprize
-
Free-kick 25 yards out, came to nothing.
-
10 mins to go...
Hartson diving header just wide.
Come on...........
-
Great cross by Telfer, Hartston diving onto it 8 yards out, put it over. Bad miss.
-
10 minutes to go
-
OK, my last prediction didn´t work out very well. Maybe this will do it: I don´t think a goal is coming.

Sutton misses a sitter
-
Sutton has just missed a total sitter, header from 6 yards, easy, easy, easy.
-
Sutton miss of the MatcH!
Astonishing miss header, easier to score!
-
Hartson hoofs wide
-
Petrov brought down just by the box, ball in from McGeady, big scramble, volley blootered over by BBJ from 12 yards.
-
Todays performance indicates a few things.
1) Rangers are rank.
2) We are not good enough YET to take ANYONE for granted.
3) We still have an unwarranted psychological superiority complex.
4) The squad still needs improving.
5) We need a plan C, Plan B ie %fitba should be consigned to the history books.
Hail Hail
-
Roy Keane anyone?
