Agree with the congrats for BBJ. He sounded well chuffed this morning on Talksport.
BTW this is my 100th post. Do i get a special mention too :)
-
Reading about our injuries for the Rangers double header - Sutton, Zurawski, Beattie - I began to get a little worried. Then I remembered, it's only Rangers. They'd be hard pushed to beat our reserve team and even if we were to lose to them in the league, it'd hardly kill us.
-
Paul67,
while I agree with your assesment I´d be interedssted to see how this team would fair against a Inter Milan or Shaktar or Barcelona.
First test on Wednesday and if we are being honest its not a very valid test!
-
Also, was it just me or was that a fine game from Mr Camara?
While too many simple passes go a stray, his attacking and defensive play is improving all the time.
-
Well done to wee Aiden for doing his talking on the pitch. His two passes to Camara in the lead-up to the first and third goals were well weighted and must have been the result of a lot of practice on the training ground. Camara's overlapping runs also bought Aiden some well-appreciated space and time because they put the Falkirk right back in two minds. This is key to a lot of Celtic's attacking play.
Well done to John Hartson, too, not only for his 100th goal but also for a rampaging performance at centre forward, where he performed a true leadership role and even displayed, dare I say it, a tad more pace.
Petrov was class, Lenny was Lenny, Telfer was Mr Reliable, Naka was kicked off the pitch (again!), Bobo won everything in the air, Mick McManus won every tackle on the deck and Boruc made the one save he needed to make. And wee Shaun scored one, and set up two. Not a bad afternoon's work.
The Celts won without getting out of second gear. But the victory was earned on the training pitches of Barrowfield. Gordon Strachan is making these Celtic players work and think like never before. And when I say the following, just you wait and see it come true:
Celtic can only get BETTER,
Rangers can only get WORSE. Much worse!

Thanks for the reply(last article), you are right in that the antecedents of their demise go back much more than the month of Oct. and again you are right to point out that it is based on financial restrictions generated by David Murray.
Again I agree Wednesday and the 19th are important for us not least as this is us against Rangers but it is the first major challenge for WGS’s Celtic since we lost to Artmedia and them, moreover, we did not win against Hearts at home. We have to step to step up our game unless we see a similar game to the Man Utd Chelsea one, for I don’t see them trying to play football.
This is a key game for us as a marker to how much we have progressed. For while we have shown metal in coming through the games against Dun Utd and Falkirk to go and stay top of the league with due respect to them both they are not good teams.
As for the media as I have said before we are playing Russian roulette with 5 bullets in the chamber while at times the media don’t even have one bullet loaded for them, by that I mean we have very little latitude for mistakes, poor results before the roof caves in.
Yes it may work in our favour over the piece but it would be nice to see the press Rangers FC (or should I say MIH FC) get the press they deserve rather than the sycophantic one as displayed by the article in the Scotland on Sunday a few weeks ago which was a reheat of the Jim Traynor `succulent lamb’ and fine wine obsequious article.

Off topic, but does anyone know of bars/venues in Cape Town that will show Celtic v TFOD on Wednesday? My brother and 400 other Irish builders are over there on a busman's holiday and are looking to see the bhoys.

I agree with a number of posters on here - we need to be slightly cautious about the next 2 games. It's easy to say they're playing rubbish, but Old Firm games have a habit of being difficult to predict. We know they'll be all out to win and we also know that they've been struggling to break down teams who sit in and frustrate them. We won't be doing this - we'll be all out to win the game. It therefore means we won't have it all our own way.
I feel it's a big test for the team. We've only beaten Hibs (narrowly) from the top 4 teams (I'll never tire of having to say the top 4 teams so it includes Rangers!) after defeat at Ibrox and the draw against Hearts. We therefore need to show we can win these important games. If we take two wins out of two, I predict we'll romp to the title. I think the confidence we'd gain from it would be huge.
If we win the league game, it'll also hopefully give Hearts and Hibs the opportunity to pull further ahead of them - imagine us and Hearts 15 points clear and Hibs 11 clear in mid-November! It sounds too good to be true! But it also shows how important it is that we drive home our advantage just now when they're playing as bad as they are. They've then got Porto away then Hibs away and these are all must win games for them. If they don't, Eck will be out of a job and George Burley will provide a far stronger adversory for WGS, of that I'm sure.
-
When we win on the 19th I'll start posting out my `End of Your Season's Greetings' card to all of the huns I know.
-
Now maybe it was just the Crew-neck training top he was wearing... but did anyone else think BBJ looked a little bigger than normal?? and build wise for once.
So what team we going with on Wed
Boruc
Telfer, Bobo, McManus, Camara
McGeady Petrov Lennon Nakamura
Maloney Hartson
Marshall, Wei, Didi?, Pearson, Thompson, Virgo.. can really think of a seventh with 3 strikers out
-
Paul,
A very professional performance yesterday. I thought Camara was great and Big Mick was excellent! Aiden looked very relaxed and made the most of his opportunity. Paul Telfer had yet another assured game.He always looks to play football. We have the best full backs we have had for a number of years.
The referee was very poor and as for his assistant over at the open field side, he should not be allowed to officiate again. He was quite simply biased. I was glad to see Stan withdrawn. Denied the ref his big chance.
Onwards and upwards.

My only complaint re the Falkirk game is that WGS spurned a chance to have one of the younger strikers on the bench IE Roco Quinn or another.
Unless he s intending to throw Virgo up front I would have liked to see one of the younger strikers come on for the last 15 mins.

Mate, if they do a "BlueRedand Whitewash" over us this season we will still be three points ahead of them. As long as we can match their results against the other teams... 0-0 v Aberdeen (H), 1-1 v ICT (H), 2-2 v Livingston (A), 0-0 v Dundee Utd (A), 0-1 v Hearts (A), 1-1 v Falkirk (A), 0-3 v Hibs (H), 2-3 v Aberdeen (A).
2 wins in the last 10, and counting... It's THAT easy!

Was there yesterday... Naka really s**ts himself on 50/50s but can't fault him other than that. What about Lenny these days...I think he's on top form.
-
Hail hail Paul and all
I watched the video of yesterdays game last night, and enjoyed our performance immensely.
McManus and Aiden were superb yesterday, Mo played well but is still realistically to be tested by an out and out winger, but none the less deserves credit for the way he is playing.
Telfer, like wise, sorry Seanbhoy I have to disagree with your assessment of our fullbacks overall. IMO, Didier over the past 4 years has been a steal considering the pennies he cost.
Also I have a prejudiced view of Telfer from his days at Cov - sorry they are not the best we have had.
Pearo yesterday came on again :-) but I notice that there were comments concerning his performance soon after the game.
Gash was one. Err forgive me but what did he do wrong?
He missed a shot after he ran half the length of the pitch to get into position.
One miss equals a slating?? It just doesn't work that way for me.
If we want the kids to develop, we have to play them and allow them to make the odd mistake. Abusing them just because they made a mess of a chance they helped to create is not exactly going to help.
I just wish that some of us would understand that match fitness and form comes from playing First Team football. Young players with little experience or those who have not played for a year are not realistically going to walk straight into the team as world beaters. By all means point out the deficiancies that players have but do not slate our young players for trying.
-
Hi Paul,
As I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear I still disagree with the generational viewpoint, I'll admit things look good just now, with a good young team playing good football, they seem in the ascendancy just now, but are still an untried team, in that they have still to win a trophy or go through a season. I'm not saying this is a fault, just that they haven't yet had the chance to prove themselves, in footballing terms I feel it's going to take a couple of years before such projections can be made.
The other side of the equation is the current poor form of Rangers, no doubt finance has a large part to play in this, and also no doubt that it will take a bit longer than I would like for things to turn around. However the present position with what seems to be tensions between certain players and the manager wont last, one or both will move on, then it's an unknown quantity, but it will be an improvement on the current position. Financially chickens may be coming home to roost but it will bottom out and start to improve. This could be under the present board or a new one, if the latter again an unknown quantity in the factor.
I always enjoy reading your points and find myself in agreement with many, but not this one, however it's one that's easy to settle, time has the answer and will give it in due course
-
I find it very heartening to hear on the radio these days that the three deadline day signings that the 4th placed team made in August were classed as duds this week yet three months ago they were being hailed as the signings which could propel them to the league title. Or perhaps they were meaning the First Division title next season?
I doubt we will ever see a broken Rankers crest on the back pages, but it is excellent to hear them all berating them and telling Jeffers he should go back to Charlton.
Fourth in the SPL indeed! How many more weeks until they are fifth, sixth or even bottom half of the table?? Not too long I hop, they are only six points ahead of 8th place!
-

For once, listening to a game on the radio wasn`t so bad. The commentater and the summarisers all agreed that the ref and his assistants made a few dodgy decisions.
Only thing, with the zero tolerance approach to sectarianism the "cheer up Alex McLeish" song will have to be amended.

Paul
Good positive article and in keeping with reclaiming the Celtic agenda for ourselves. These are some of the real issues, the superb form of McManus, the focus of McGeady in fighting his way back to the first team and the malaise across the city.
Also lead me to a thought. On the eve of the last Old Firm game Celtic released the accounts in an attempt to ensure minimum exposure.
What chance MIH accounts published this Wednesday or Friday 18th?
Let there be no doubt, Rangers are in as big a crisis as they have been in for 20 years. But they will come out fighting on Wednesday like they haven't fought all season, but focus, focus and focus again on everything we've worked for this season and it could be a special night for the green and white.
Aye it's Celtic, Celtic, that's the team for me.
Celtic! Celtic! On to victory.
They're the finest team in Scotland, I hope you will agree.
They'll never give up 'til they've won the cup and the Scottish (Premier) League.

Hi everyone.
First up, belated thanks to Gerry for his answer to my query about the impending share issue.
Secondly, regarding yesterday,s game. A good performance without really having to get out of second gear. I thought McManus was excellent and it is looking good for the rest of the season.
However my main point is in regard to the tackle on Nakamura. Can anyone tell me the difference between that tackle, and Thompsons' one at I****? Since he was ordered off, I have seen numerous tackles similar to his which have been punished by a yellow card at most!!
I was stupid enough to think that all over the ball tackles would result in a straight red, (which I think they should), but I guess that ref's are consistently inconsistent, eh?
Sorry about the above rant, but this issue is really p***ing me off!!!
-
Muchas Gracias Senor, I had read it previously but didn't take into account the ammount of toady-grovelling that was being done. I took the article (at the time) as being triumphalistic.
-
Noel, maybe Len has an e-virus if you're feeling sick too! Yikes!
I know we all agree on the ignore the red tops idea, but I have another superb example of why this is so. McGeady's interview after the game - Celtic's official site summary as follows: "Aiden McGeady has said that he doesn’t expect Hearts’ title bid to falter as a result of the internal turmoil at Tynecastle and insists that it remains too early in the season to discount Rangers as championship challengers."
The Daily Record's back page headline is "Ger out of it now- McGeady says Gers are out of the title race" (I took a peak at the back page on Asda - so don't worry, I'm not funding them!)I'm not sure the headline quite fits what was said in the interview - lazy journalism once more!

Well done Celtic great victory against a team who have taken points from Hearts and them.
Camara and McManus were superb.
Note: Camara can only play against what is in front of him and so far he is doing fine.
Shaun and Aiden played very well, I was really pleased Aiden took his chance and IMHO shone.
BBJ well done, keep it up!!

The top 6 / bottom 6 split in April may just rob us of an od firm game aqt Paradise. If the mighty gers continue their rich vein of form, we will not see them make the top 6.
On another note, too many peolpe saying McLeish is not responsible, as his hands are tied financially. How many players has he brought in in his time? How many have moved on? He has had time and money to build a team and done nothing.
My point....
MCLEISH MUST STAY!

Towards the end of MON's reign last season, i had serious reservations about how he would go about engineering a team that could evolve into something quicker & with more variation to the play.
Without going overboard, WGS has definitely shown early signs of progress. MON's teams played with an emphasis on goals from free kicks & corners, however we are scoring goals from all over the park & in open play as well. The emphasis is now on fitness, movement off the ball & fluent passing. Young players are being given a real chance to shine. Strachan is looking at a global market for players, there is a serious focus on fitness techniques used successfully in different sports to enhance performance levels & his general outlook means we are watching a better product this year.
I hope we can keep the momentum going & put TFOD in their rightful place.
Remember - feet firmly on the ground as it's still early days
-
Hear, hear , baldymeister,
i to thought the stick threw towards Pearson was unwarranted and out of order. He was after all only on as sub. I thought his runs from midfield where superb , did you see the ground he made up to get into the postion to have an attempt at goal!! He has played around 30-40 mins of first team football and contributed with a goal not bad i would say in this stage of his rehabilitation.
What price of pearson for last goalscorer against the TFOD?
Interesting i might say.........
-
Al Obundy, I believe Rocco Quinn is injured at the moment.
Edward, I cannot see the possibility of a new board at Ibrox, though I agree it is needed. The £50m ‘investment’ will make if very difficult for Murray to sell the club without getting his cash back.
For Rangers 2006, I am thinking; much the same, but without Prso and Klos.
Agree Celtic are still a work in progress, also agree with others who are concerned we have yet to win a big game.
Step up to the plate Mr Strachan.
Welcome Baljaffreybhoy, on this occasion I will not refer to your vernacular adjective, oops.
Hoopiness, I have updated my post, thanks. Though Kevin is correct, fourth place is theirs (or should I write ‘there’s’ to stay consistent).
BlantyreKev, I am sure the MIH accounts will be released in concert with other big news, as you have alluded to.
Wayne, I had also noticed that Aiden seemed to be getting picked on by the Falkirk players.
Michael 67, I had to delete that comment as it screwed the page width, which annoys people reading on a handheld device.
-
It IS early days but I`ve noticed that the league has been won with a points total in the 90s for the past few years. I think it was 93 last season. I`d just like to point out that our Southside rivals can now only achieve the total of 95 if they win all 24 games left.

My view on Journalism is that it is good practice to avoid such catastrophies by saying something like : should they fail to qualify ... then...

-
Iaininjesi, good spot! Since 99/00, a points total of 95 would only have won the league twice - last season and all the way back to 99/00!
04/05 93 points (a gift)
03/04 98 points (Celts)
02/03 97 points (goal difference - 17 more competitive games)
01/02 103 points (that's the target WGS!)
00/01 97 points (MON!)
99/00 90 points (gers)
98/99 77 points (gers)
Looking at the above also shows we should be going for 6 in a row this season. Paul is saying we are entering a generation of dominance - we should be living through one just now! The Seville season and last year should have been ours, no doubts about it. Let's hope we have less slip ups in our next generation of dominance!

Agreed, how on earth the Daily hun could interpret Aidens words to mean what they splashed across the back page is beyond me.
They have given TFOD something to pin up on the dressing room wall, something Mr. Oneill used to out of his way to avoid, not that AMc is guiilty of anything here.
By the time they get round to kicking Aiden, Maloney will be clean through.
Isnt it fantastic to say that 3 of our most important players will be youth team products on Wed night, look forward to not only dominating TFOD over the next generation as Paul says, but doing so with our own.
Wallace long term at LB, Beatts to come back, Irvine at RB and a couple others im sure. (ferry & mcglinchy in particular)
Happy hoops days again.
Please dont give me one of those crazy unjust games on Wed. Let the best team win and let us celebrate!!!!!!!!
By the way, if Rankers lose points in their next two league games (us and Hibs away) they could be leapfrogged by two teams and go down to 6th after 16 games INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!
The only team to qualifiy for europe after Xmas and miss the split?? Get relegated?? Calm down everyone!!!!!!!

At 1:12 PM, Brido raised the great point on Rangers summer signings
"on the radio these days that the three deadline day signings that the 4th placed team made in August were classed as duds this week yet three months ago they were being hailed as the signings which could propel them to the league title."
Sad as I am I kept this article regarding how good the signing’s of Mr McLeish were.
Interesting to note that with Fanfan signing the first psychological blow was struck by Rangers. Talk about what you say coming back to bit you…
`Blow for Strachan as Fanfan heads for Rangers
DARRYL BROADFOOT and MARK WILSON July 05 2005
RANGERS will today negotiate the signing of José-Karl Pierre-Fanfan, the Paris Saint-Germain central defender, from under the nose of their Old Firm rivals, Celtic.
That will add to the frustration experienced by the Parkhead club in the transfer market …
The Herald understands Gordon Strachan was offered the player weeks before Rangers for around £800,000 …
Pierre-Fanfan's representatives grew tired of Celtic's procrastination and informed Rangers of the player's availability via fax. It is the first psychological blow struck by Alex McLeish against Strachan, his former Aberdeen team-mate and now Old Firm adversary.
Pierre-Fanfan has a rich reputation in the French first division and had also attracted interest from West Ham United and Portsmouth.’

Paranoid???
-
Come on lhads (and lhassies?).
We are all getting carried away here.
We have played about 1/3 of our league games. Rangers are at their nadir at the moment.
A change of manager, sooner rather than later, and a revolving door in January will see them get a shot in the arm.
They may not be title contenders due to the handicap of the 12 point gap, but they will certainly have a huge influence on the destination of the title.
We certainly need them to be able to take points off Hearts and Hibs.
-
Mcgeady is really showing a maturity and a grit and is really thriving in the new training culture that has been adopted at Celtic. Guys like Balde, McManus, Maloney and Beattie have all commented at some stage that they are enjoying training more than ever. A contrast to the start of the season when the more senior players all had a wee moan atthe more rigorous regimes introduced. The young ones are leading the way in terms of attitude they have learnt a lot already from GS Long may it continue.
Michael: Paul is always been fond of making bold predictions that his style however the abilty to use your knowledge in such a way to illustrate the outcome of such an event or situation before the event has happened (as you say)is more a kin to astrology than journalism. Far too early to predict the outcome of the top four for me! True-Tim makes a good point I have always loved MON's mocking mentality - Rangers are the champions and the benchmark!!
Fanatastic!
-

With Rangers it seems to be how long is a piece of string, it is interesting to note that the tone from Mr McLeish has change to become along the lines of as long as it is mathematically possible to win we are still going to win.
Do you remember BF saying earlier this season that Rangers would go on to dominate Scottish football for years to come?
You are right the whole thing would be different if it was us and along with S.Thompson, Burke is going on about how the game on Wednesday could kickstart their season, sorry but I think I’ve heard that too many times already this season from them.
With regards to it being too early to make predictions Abraham Lincoln said that they wisest animal of all was the chicken as she only crowed after the egg has been laid.
-
paul,
i agree with your comments on mcgeady. it always baffled me how MON continued to play him last year, when he clearly was not up to the job. Decisions like that helped contribute to costing us the league.
However, i think some of us are going overboard with him. let's get realistic. A decent 90 minutes, for the first time in 12 months is not something to get too excited about. He needs to put in 20 games in a row before you can say he is decent. The same rules for all players.
I was also concerned with Virgo coming on as a forward. I really think Gordon does not rate him as a full back?
With regards the Walfrid Statue, a few of the boys were suggesitng on Saturday that perhpas it would have been a better idea to rename Celtic Park to the Walfrid Stadium. I liked this idea. What do you think?

Someone sent me this story, taken from another forum. How true it is I don't know, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story. Lazy journalism? I'm too lazy even to be a journalist!
In the days of rebuilding at Parkhead, wee Fergus met with some opposition from the local residents along Janefield Street when the main stand was finally erected at Celtic Park. Apparently, residents living along the row of flats along the street were experiencing difficulty with their television reception due to the increased height of the new stadium, and demanded a meeting with the Celtic chairman to resolve the issue.
Fergus obliged, and duly met up with the locals and their representatives in one of the newly-built conference suites at Celtic Park. When the meeting started, the angry mob hurled abuse at the bespectabled money maestro, and demanded immediate action.
"Fine," said the wee man. "I'll put an antenna on the roof of the stadium and boost the signal to your houses."
The representatives then consulted with the angry mob and returned with a response to the offer: "It's not good enough," they said. "We want compensation."
Wee Fergus whispered into the ear of his lawyer and consulted the Celtic accountants. He then replied with a very tasty offer:
"I'll put an antenna on the roof of the stadium and boost the signal to your houses - plus - I'll give every household £150."
The representatives went away with the improved offer and returned,
smiling: "We accept," was the overwhelming majority vote.
Fergus then made arrangements for all of the local residents to sign a legally binding agreement, waiving their right to additional compensation when the offer had been honoured, and the mob formed an orderly queue to scrawl their monickers on the charter. When everyone had finished, wee Fergus stood up to make an annoucement, just before the meeting was called to a close.
"Thank you for coming along today and being so open and honest with your views. I would just like to add that I'm very pleased we managed to reach an amicable resolution to the television reception problem.
"Now, if everyone could return here on Monday, I will personally issue cheques to everyone affected - as long as you bring along your current television licence."
Monday arrived, and not one person turned up at Celtic Park to claim their £150 cheque.
Wee Fergus never did put up that antenna...

Sorry mate but that story surfaced here a couple of times on CQN a few weeks back.
It's still a great story though and a wonderful anecdote about Fergus.

Not sure about the idea of Walfrid Stadium
Not even sure that Andrew Kerins himself would have thought that a good idea from what little we know of his character. But from all reports he was a modest man who was intensely devoted to those in his pastoral care and such gestures even 117 years later would not have sat with him.
Also our stadium has always been and in my humble opinion must always stay Celtic Park
I am sure the powers that be at Celtic could ask or persuade Glasgow City Council to re-name Kerrydale Street in honour of Walfrid but I'm not in favour of the stadium going that way.
-
Heres a wee story that might raise a smile on CQN.
I work for a company and one of our directors, on occassions, has dealings with David Murray. Anyway after the Ibrox game this season old Zsa Zsa Gabor Murray (I still remember that analogy, Paul!) was meeting our director and he said "I see Celtic are in for a Chinese international." and our director replied "Aye, Du Wei or something like that." To which the bold David replies "Nah, Win Wan Soon!"
Wonder if he's still cracking that joke?

Would love to but can't share this easy easy optimism guys - fourth in the SPL or not, the Teddies are still capable of turning us over in the League Cup AND the League. We played a makeshift team against Falkirk yesterday and it worked, but we're kiddin ourselves if we think the same line up will work on Wednesday. They will lift themselves big time when they come to Parkhead, and if our players start believing all this spent force nonsense we will definitely be turned over. We have big injuries to key men and the guy that Rangers hate playing against them - Agathe - is currently for whatever reason out of favour. Lets face it, if the shoe was on the other foot and they were writing us off, we would seriously fancy our chances.
-
Noticed the abuse Aiden was getting from the FalKIRK fans. At one point he went over to retrieve the ball and was greeted by one guy with you f****** fenian b******. My english celt of a woman was quite shocked by that not because it was said but because it came from a guy in a wheel chair. Just shows you Scotlands shame trancends disability. ps was that the true Govan coming out of Ferguson last night, canny help themselves.
-
Paul
Well said about Big John
I'm delighted he has scored 100 for us and I look forward to many more starting on Wednesday but preferably the week on Saturday.
I am like everyone else here, always desperate to win against TFOD but I can't really get too excited about the CIS Insurance Cup even against them.
The game on the 19th is the real crunch - we must win that one regardless and truly put them in a place from where they will not come back. Being 15 points down in mid-November for a team as poorly organised as they are will be too much.
Even if Ray does send Sanny for the big walk and someone new comes in to galvanise them a bit it will be far too late so we must make sure the game on the 19th goes our way.
Then we concentrate on dealing with the dual threat from the East and two teams that seem to me to be revelling in the new status as serious challengers.
Lets make sure we see the back of the other lot a week on Saturday and as convincingly as possible and cement their place as the fourth team in the SPL and then really focus hard on clipping the wings of Hearts and Hibs
As you so rightly say step up to the plate Mr Strachan - we need a few home runs with some style!
-
Paul-
I read in yesterdays S ON Sunday that murray claims he will "go the extra mile for alec mc leish..."
Hope he goes the extra 10 miles for him......

Back on Friday night a few of us were postng about the possible outcome of the Falkirk and we mentioned just how bitter their supporters were.
They really do hate us - none of the singing of the "Billy Boys" just to wind us up - the Falkirk hordes really despise everything we stand for so the abuse young Aiden got yesterday was scandalous but par for the course in my long experience of watching Celtic-Falkirk games.
Going to Brockville was a hideous experience because it was a tip and a deathtrap but also because their supporters were so vile towards us.
Even with a fancy new ground (although only half-built) you get the feeling that nothing really changes regardless of the well-meaning politicians and other organisations like Nilby Mouth.

Ask all the huns you meet

Just been purusing the Sky Sports web sites, notice that Stephen Pienaar is looking for a move away from Ajax in January.
His agent says there is interest in him from a number of countries including Scotland.
Simple enquiry really, presuming that it would be supposedly ourselves or TFOD 'allegedly' interested - is he any good?
I have heard his name mentioned many times but cannot recall ever watching him play 90 mins over the past few years.
Does anyone have an opinion on the guy, would he be worth a punt and would he be better than any that we have already?
-
dunno if its been mentioned but...
CELTIC defender Du Wei has captained the Chinese football team to the gold medal at the 2005 East Asian Games in Macau.
Du Wei had scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Japan and he was delighted to play his part in the 1-0 victory over North Korea.
He said: “I’m really happy to get the gold medal, this is the fruit of our great efforts in the past few months.
“When the national team calls me back, of course I’m willing to help the team and gain honour for our nation. It’s my task and my honour to do that.
The victory is the first time that China have won a men’s football title at an international event.
And the defeat of North Korea, courtesy of a header from midfielder Shen Tao, also avenged the 3-1 defeat China had suffered against the North Koreans in the group stages.

Official we site has interesting piece on using Wednesday night's fixture to highlight Celtic and Rangers work in stamping out sectarianism
Will be interesting to see if the media in this country see fit to report this and then compare this work to the lack of response from other clubs i.e Aidens scandalous abuse yesterday at Falkirk
For far too long the focus has all been on Celtic and Rangers when clearly problems exist elsewhere and some of it is awful.
Anyway well done Celtic for pursuing this further and trying to stamp out the cancer that is sectarianism - lets hope other organisations follow the lead of the Big Two and get their act together.
Anyway back to the footie - early score predictions for Wednesday?

Having seen Rangers pip us to the post tiwce in the last 6 years with the help of the SFA, SPL BBC and Strathclyde police I haven´t written Rangers off yet!
Lets keep the head. Schadenfreude is understandable but black Sunday was not so long ago and additionally I think we should leave comments about possible opponents managers history and backgrounds to them not us we are better than that!

Worth mentioning that Celtic have played more away league games than any other Scottish club this season (2 more than TFOD), making their achievements even more noteworthy. Keep up the good work Bhoys, fingers crossed Sutton makes it on Wednesday.

martinobhoy, I will dust down the Zsa Zsa reference for the weeks to come. One of my better ones, don’t you think?
On the subject of Falkirk:
My grandfather, who died in 1971 when I was four, left me a few football memories. One of which was that he regarded Falkirk and Hearts to be on a par with Rangers fans in their attitude towards Celtic.
The history runs that far back at least.
Isn’t it funny what sticks in the memory?
Bhoy O Bhoy, expletives allowed for artistic merit.
Noel, lets hope Murray goes that extra mile, because:

If Celtic go into the double header against Dignity FC showing the same level of complacency as some of the posters on here, then we could be in for torid ninety minutes.
Dignity are wounded right now, and I've witnessed enough Celtic versus Dignity matches to know that form really does go out of the window.
A couple of seasons ago I was in one of the lounges at Celtic Park watching a live beamback from Snake Mountain. So confident were the Celtic support that a group of guys at our table ordered champagne before kick off.
Celtic lost five one.
I urge the Celtic support to be as professional as the management team and players will surely be and stay behind the team from the first kick to the last.
P.S. Don't sink to the level of the sectarian bigots; we have more than enough "Celtic" songs to keep us going.
-
I never go into OF games feeling confident.Form goes out the window.Too much counting chickens and various other proverbs abound.
Need to stay focussed and show no mercy to them at all.
-
shamrock , i am going for 3-0 hoops , we can beat them and beat them well

I think I am one of the "complacent" posters you are referring to-because I am soooo certain that we are going to wipe the floor with rangers in both games.
I have watched every Celtic game this season and most of the rangers games-
I am confident and I can afford to be complacent because I am not playing.... :P
Paul-
Your Grandad(hope he was better looking than mine..)knew what he was talking about-brockville was always a horrible place to go and I find going to tynecastle these days unnerving-I feel a lot safer- and we suffer a lot less abuse- going to ibrox.

Baldymeister, I trust last night's viewing was a surprise?
Pienaar is a young midfielder very much in the Petrov mould. He's strong in the tackle and good going forward too. I've only seen him a few times for Ajax and the national team and he looks a decent prospect. I have heard his name a few times being linked with us.
Old firm palpitations have started already in the baa baa household...
My old boy told me stories about Falkirk, Hearts and Airdrie all being like mini-Dignities so it was no surprise to hear Lennon and McGeady getting it in the necks from them. ALthough I have to admit I did give a wee smirk when the old boy in the wheelchair was giving Aiden grief... good old fashioned bigotry..... love it and hate it.
-
baldymeister
On a few football websites they are saying the Scottish club is ourselves. He is a 23 year old South African creative midfielder. We had a scout at the Ajax game at the weekend to look at him apparently.
His contract is up in the summer because Ajax have supposedly offered him a derisory contract offer in the summer.
I've just had a look at an Ajax site and the fans on their rate him as one of their best players and can't believe he could be allowed to leave for free in the summer. Sounds very good if true.
-
I would advise caution.
We are the team with no CL income this season.
If Rangers beat Porto (unlikely)they will have further millions to add to the ten million that the CL will have generated already.
It is more likely that they will have further UEFA cup income this season.
The difference in the level of debt between the two clubs is not that much.
The share issue should help our debt, but it will increase this season with no CL income.
If TFOD make the second stages of the CL they will have more funds available than we do in the Jan transfer window.
Big Eck can turn things around very easily, with two wins against us and a CL win or draw in Porto.
As for us being better than last season.
This current side would not have lived with Barcelona in the Nou Camp,or coped with AC Milan.
We have still to win a major crunch match (Easter Road apart)this season.
I am more hopefull that we will win the league than at the start of the season.
However that optimism is mainly due to the recent capitulation of TFOD .
This Celtic side would not live with the side we had two years ago.
The plus for us is that TFOD are far weaker aswell.
Everything in our garden is not all rosey.
It is however set to bloom, providing we don't add too much manure.
-
I have to agree that there is too much arrogance going on here. We have no right to this arrogance, history should remind us all of this, especially in this tournament.
Paul, to suggest they will play in our shadow for a generation is a ridiculous statement, i thought better of you than that. It is a nice idea, but it just will not come to pass. We had to put up wit hthat because we had a board with no aspirations, but for all his faults, David Murray cannot be accused of lacking the same. He would find the money if he really needed to, he's done it before.
God i hate making him sound good!
-
Xavier.......I'm with you 3.0 and I'm going to stick a fiver on that score
Re....Falkirk.....they have always be like that
-
ShamrockDiary :- 1 - 1 after 90 min Rangers to go through.
-
To start with, I have to say what a wonderful, moving and historic day that Saturday was. Massive kudos to all the movers and shakers who made it happen.
I'm sure that there will be enough songs of mockery on Wednesday without having to worry about some singing what may be deemed as sectarian('cos both sides are as bad as each other, aren't they??).
As I have said before, this double header could be the meteoric springboard for WGS that 6-2 was for Saint Martin. Win the 2 of them(ok, I'll settle for the league game)and who exactly is gonna stop us? On the other hand, lose the games and the psychological blow could be massive(but then again, we bounced back from A******a B********a and ra 'well debacle at the start so our mental strength is unquestionable).
I'm not seriously worried about the games coming up and we all know how(big, dirty, smelly)pants TFOD are right now, but hark back to the early 90s when we were an all-round shambles unable to kick our own erses. We could still turn it on in a one-off Glasgow Derby. Remember the St.Paddy's day double header?(As if anyone has forgotten!).
A(potentially fantastic)work in progress and cautious optimism all round methinks.
Bring the(succulent)lambs to the slaughter!
Hail Hail.
-
Paul - i agree that Rangers have started a long slide on a downhill slope but being a realist I cannot rule out the possibility that Hearts could hit an even steeper slope before the season ends. You see where I am coming from.
What we now have is the chance in January to cement our place at the top whilst weakining our rivals standing. If the board could have even a diluted form of the foresight you have expressed than i believe we can rise to the top for, as you say, a generation.

Ardoch, it is my firm assertion that David Murray will not find the money that Rangers need and that Celtic will flourish in Glasgow for a long time to come.
Fourth in the SPL
you’re Fourth in the SPL
you’re Fourth in the SPL
you’re Fourth in the S.P.L.
-
Edward
Good to see you are holding your own
I'm afraid if you are going to go through you will need to stop us scoring full stop.
If we get one we will probably add a couple more so 3-1 might be closer
If Klos puts on one of his shows and your somewhat erratic defence holds us back then you will go through probably 1-0
Still not many teams have stopped us from scoring this season!
-
LennysPRMhan 5.53 :- Wishful thinking it may well :) Something that goes along with the mantle of supporter I think. But not just wishful thinking, a very possibly wet windy Celtic Park may not suit the current style of the Celtic team, I think it will be a lot more kick and rush than silky football. I'll agree that the loss of Mr Prso would be a catastrophic blow but barring this feel he could do enough to unsettle the Celtic defence. Mr Hartson could score, I did go for 1 - 1, but I would like to see Marvin Andrews put in against him as I feel his style of play could cope with it.

My first post. On the subject of bigotry, my least favourite away ground is Fir Park. Since the very famine, we have had to deal with hatred and bias in this demographically challenged little country!
It has been a joy to watch our team get better and better as the days and weeks roll by.
I'm as optimistic for Celtic as I've been since the sixties.
Like the rest of you, when Celtic are down, I'm down; and when Celtic are up, happiness returns! Good luck to the Bhoys on Wednesday night and for the rest of a happy season in Timdom, and God Bless you all!

Is there a cryptic clue in your use of the word flourish?
Secondly you say Celtic will dominate in Glasgow.
Do you believe that we will dominate in Glasgow due to the demise of Rangers ,but we will struggle on a European and dare i say a domestic front with the likes of Hearts?
-
Not a chance Paul, it will not happen, and i'll tell you why, because we don't have a board willing to bury them.
We have a board willing to be just that little bit better, but not willing to leave them behind. Sadly it makes no commercial sense to do so.

Paul, (and Ardoch )
Have to agree that DM is unlikely to pull a rabbit from the hat this time
I think his last shot at underwriting RFC's debt last year was his final bolt.
However Rangers will always be an instituition that could command a sale albeit that Mr Murray may lose a substantial amount of cash in doing so. It all depends what state his core business is in and if he needs to prop that up then selling on Rangers to ease the pressure on MIH just might be possible.
The problem is that it is very hard to determine how tangled the web is between RFC and MIH and it could be a whole lot more complicated than any of us thinks making it more difficult for him to extricate himself.
The danger for Rangers is that he cannot afford to let go because of the labyrinthine state of the inter company trading and therefore Paul you may be right and domination over many years could be possible.
On the other hand no-one should underestimate the potential for another buyer to re-structure things over there and make it a more robust prospect as a result.
A generation of domination seems to hinge on a debt-ridden MIH remaining in control of RFC and I think it may be too early to tell if that will always be the case but we can always hope!

For me the two games are quite different. The league game is where it is at. Dont get me wrong it would be very nice indeed to put Rangers out of the competition. But the league game is where nails and coffins come into being. They could not recover from a 15 points deficit, they would struggle to qualify for next years champions league. Heads would roll if they lose to us in the league game. If we win the game we can as somebody has quite rightly said turn our attentions to the threat from the east and deal with them accordingly.
What pressure must the Rangers management and players, even Murray be under now to get results. We can afford to lose the game THEY cannot. Expect some little help for them along the way from specsavers are us, you can take that to the bank.
The players have to be disciplined as they have never been before take the tackles the kicks the abuse and play football, we really could be seeing the demise of Glasgow Rangers, and wouldnt it just be like us to drive in that final nail.
-
Pienaar would be a first choice in a World 5-a-side team. Excellent close control, very quick feet. Ajax have been playing him on the right side of midfield. He doesn't look happy there & I don't think he covers enough ground to play there. Flatters to deceive at times but when it comes off (see Ajax's fourth goal in their last CL game) it's good to watch. Not to be compared with Petrov - more lightweight. I would be more interested in the other Ajax player who has announced he will not renew his contract at the end of this season - Hatem Trabelsi, the Tunisian right back. A real class & a wonderful athlete to boot. Unfortunately I recall Arsenal were interested in him a while ago.

Big Joe
Two of my business partners are from the TFOD .
They are so blinkered with regards to Rangers ,it is unbelievable.
They have this "We are Rangers super Rangers mentality."
They truly believe that they are the people.
Their level of arrogance with regards to all things Rangers, is mind boggling.
They expect nothing other than to bring us down to earth and show us that ,they are the people.
I myself prefer ,the previously mentioned intelligence of the Chicken ,that crows after the egg has been layed.
I will wait until after the league match before i bring up the subject of our supremacy.
Hopefully i will be able to.
But they are not living in fear in Fife.

Just beware bhoys.......

I will be up for both games but am worried . I am really enjoying watching us this season but we still haven't been tested. I agree with the Tinytim comment re the comparison with the team that played Barcelona . We MIGHT get there but are not there yet.
I think WGS will start the same team on Weds to see if they can cope if so FANTASTIC . However if the John Greig vs Jinky ("are you tryin to intimidate me Greigy ?") tactics work then I think one of our Jinkies will be dropped and some steel added to Midfield for the more important league game.
I REALLY REALLY hope it does work cos we could kill them off and make them look silly . "Bobby Petta showboating style" on both wings!!!

Sad to see another sychophantic Spiers article in the Herald this morning. This time he was hailing the genius that is the Mint. And this is a man who will not speak to him. I say sad because it is embarrassing to see this fine journalist having to kowtow to the forces of darkness. I had heard he was lined up to join The Independent but it seems he's stuck with a future that's less than bright but tinged with Orange.

Just waded through the comments from yesterday and today alot of interesting reading?
Though I thought about throwing this wee gem in to the ring.
I've got it on really good authority that the mint has invited
Ottmar Hitzfeld over for talks next week. The stumbling block is that Hitzfield thinks Scottish football is a backwater and isn't really interested.
EdwardUrsus don't know what you make of it?
The two items I'm not sure about are, will the mint is send his Jet over and whether Hitzfield disinterest is a result of the team being rangers!!
Oh did anyone have a bet on Graham Rix being named the next hearts manager???

Ayrshirecelt, Hunter has been mentioned many times in the past. So far he's kept his cash although he does spend some on very tasteless clothes. Cultural fit for Govan , I suppose. He's a bit busy at the moment as he's in the High Court in London, defending his integrity in a very embarrassing court case. His pal Chris Gorman's there too- or Billy Big Bollocks as the other side's QC called him. Yep, suitable cases for Ibrox.
I'm in the camp of quite determination, under-promise and over-deliver. We're getting carried away. Let's get the job done and only then can we really gloat

The David Murray / Zsa Zsa Gabor comparison was definitely one of your best ones. I now cant see the man on the TV without laughing.
I'm still not confident on Wednesday even though I know we are by far the better team. We could easily have one of those nights where we do everything but score. If we get the first goal I reckon we'll be well on our way.
Well done Big John on the 100 - we all know how much it means to you. Here's to 101 on Wednesday.

Found a few videos on Steven Pienaar, this one's 20MB but quite good:
Steven Pienaar
I doubt we would be able to sign a rising star at Ajax for a kick-off and even if we did we've already got Maloney, McGeady and Nakamura. He looks good but if a bit lightwieght but would we not be better going for a more gritty type player?
-
On the Celtic website:
There’s been unhappiness within Celtic Park today at the way in which one particular tabloid has ‘spun’ Aiden McGeady’s quotes following yesterday’s match at Falkirk, quotes which, on closer examination, bear little relation to headlines which proclaimed that he had 'ruled Rangers out' of the title race.
Nice to see that the Celtic PR are putting things right but I would like Celtic to take the media to task (and court if possible) every time they spin something. It is the only way they shall learn! David Murray runs a dictatorship with the media, we should sue them every time try to tarnish our club and our players.
(Possible new revenue stream as well?)

Just as we come up for ten years since Fergus McCann stood side by side with Tommy Burns and Walter Smith for a minute's silence for the football fans who died in January 1971 in Glasgow, Celtic ask their supporters to cut out the (religious) sectarian songs at Celtic Park.
I do remember a game at Ibrox when Celtic fans did not sing any (religious) sectarian songs. It can be done (though unlikely by the Rnagers fans on Wednesday).
By the way both Celtic and Rangers receive significant sums from the taxpayer for the Old Firm Alliance. Money from your wages, (if you are a British taxpayer) goes to pay the wages of Celtic and Rangers employees as well as challenge sectarianism.
Let's drown out with boos the sectraian songs and chants wherever they come from.
Club wants fans to get message
Newsroom Staff
CELTIC will deliver a strong anti-sectarian and anti-racist message at the forthcoming Old Firm CIS Cup tie at Celtic Park. It will also highlight the work the club does in the community and its involvement in a range of projects which aim to tackle sectarianism and racism.
The match, on Wednesday, November 9, will see 22 pupils from two East End primary schools – Haghill Park Primary, Dennistoun, and St Mark’s Primary, Shettleston – take part in a skills practice session on the pitch. And these youngsters will lead out the teams before the game.
These events aim to promote Celtic and Rangers’ involvement in the Old Firm Alliance initiative. The project, which began last season, aims to promote football for all and bring people together.
Since launching its award-winning Bhoys Against Bigotry initiative back in 1996, Celtic has developed its work aimed at tackling sectarianism and racism within society through a range of projects.
The Club has enjoyed a long relationship with Show Racism the Red Card and has supported a range of activities with first-team players playing an important role in promoting a strong anti-racism message on behalf of the Club.
For a number of years Celtic Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club has also funded a range of projects with substantial donations. These include cross-community initiatives in Scotland and Ireland which aim to break down barriers and bring people together.
These include the Omagh Fund, Northern Ireland Children’s Events and the Northern Ireland Children’s Holiday Scheme.
Celtic’s work in the community has been strengthened in recent years by the establishment of Celtic Education. Managed by Tony Russell, the Celtic Education programme has already worked with thousands of young people.
He said: “This programme working to support S3 pupils is now in its third year. It has proven to be hugely successful. Every secondary school in Glasgow has been offered a place and 26 have accepted. Almost 2000 pupils have enjoyed the benefits and overall schools have reported an 86% improvement in participating pupils.”
The work of Sense over Sectarianism will also be promoted. Celtic, Rangers, Glasgow City Council and the churches within Scotland are all partners in the SOS initiative.
Celtic Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic has over a number of years made substantial financial contributions to the work of SOS. Celtic is delighted to be part of the highly successful programme and looks forward to continuing its association. The club has an important role to play in the community and the club is delighted, along with our partners, to promote these important messages.

It didn't say... I think someone mentioned it was Hugh Keevins so whatever piece of toilet paper he works for. Saying this, they all share their stories anyway (well that's my guess since every story is practically identical - Sometime they write it in their own pen, but the structure is always the same). Funny that isn't it? You'd think the stories would differ from one paper to another all depending on the editors personal preference to what is important. Maybe they're all on the same wavelength. I always thought the term for such a thing was group-think, but then they'd need to be in communication with each other for that to happen!

FEET ON THE GROUND TIME!
Bhoys.
All games against Rangers are tough ones.
I have seen too many over the years to write them off at any time.
What we musn't do is turn on the team if things go against us on Wednesday.
Don't get me wrong i would really love to do them this week, but all things said, i would not be averse to losing on Wed. and winning the league match.
That would be a real test of progress and more important character.
The season has a long way to go and, it is far too premature to be prejudging what has still to materialise.
You can be sure WGS has his feet firmly on the ground and, one or two reversals against our biggest rivals will not distract him from his ultimate goal.
I'm sure Jock Stein once went through a season without beating them and still won the league that year.
Confidence is the key word for Wednesday, not overconfidence.
Hail Hail.

tinytim makes a valid point about rangers extra income from the CL this year....however i don't believe that very much of this at all will be used in strengthening the squad....
the key for me is murray's public pronouncements...bearing in mind this is a man who is in the anthea turner class of self promotion.....any ego driven statement of greatness is wortwhile in his mind......
he constantly plays the braggart and his foolhardy management has driven his club from financial strength to virtual insolvency.....but now he is preaching financial prudence......
the leapord has changed his spots, not through choice.....but because HBOS now call the shots.....if there was any chance of spending his way out of this CRISIS, then he would be providing exclusive interviews, with his latest european domination strategy to the fore, to his lapdogs in the red tops...
he isn't ...he won't ....he can't....as far as rangers goes he is a busted flush...a millstone around their necks.....the £50 million may have moved from one MIH company to another....but does anyone really believe that it isn't Rangers who are paying thye full cost of servicing that debt.....
well anyone apart from Traynor,Chic Young , and the rest of the lemmings in tabloid world

A wise man once said: "Beware of an injured animal who is cornered"... or something like that!
I was origanally not that bothered about the results in the next few weeks (obviously I would want to win) but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't. Now I'm thinking if they did get a result, in either of the games, it would be the perfect chance for them to build on something and turn their season around.
We MUST beat Rangers in both games!
Then we can start to worry about Hibs and Hearts.

It IS early days but I`ve noticed that the league has been won with a points total in the 90s for the past few years. I think it was 93 last season. I`d just like to point out that our Southside rivals can now only achieve the total of 95 if they win all 24 games left.
good point but i expect the champs this year to have the lowest total ever recorded. this season everybody in the top 4 is capable of beating each other, in previous years us and them would not drop many points to hearts and hibs

If Sutton doesn't make the game I expect to see Thompson replace McGeady from yesterday's team.
As most people have said, they will get stuck in, it's the only chance they have, so I would expect Thompson to play to add a bit of muscle in the middle of the park.
We then have the option of bringing on McGeady after the battle has been won to give them the run around.
3-1 the Hoops.
-
Evening all,
On the CQN quiz show tonight :
Name the goalkeeper who saved 2 penalties against Rangers in the SAME game.
Paul - Done a bit of research. April 22 1981 title win was at Tannadice 3-2 and 15 May 1982 title win was St Mirren at Celtic Park.
-
Not been on for a while. Been keeping in touch though. Father very poorly in hospital.
We must not get to cocky about Wed, Bobo must pick up Prso (and not leave it up to Mick) who really is their main threat.
We have a real chance to bury them,
but i think they`ll be really up for this. You all know the saying "there`s nothing worse than a wounded animal"!!!
-
Welcome Jhamsiebhoy and thanks for your support. I agree, Fir Park has a particular venom about it.
Not sure where you would like us to go Ardoch. Referring to my interview of last week, the board will spend every penny they get in, will reinvest any profits made and will freeze non-exec pay for the foreseeable future.
If “willing to bury them” means spend more than this on players wages or transfers, I am not for it.
If you are not Sustainable, you are unsustainable.
TinyTim, As Shamrock Diary has suggested, I believe Rangers are listing badly and will be inhibited by their ultimate parent. As for the rest of the world, we will see it as we find it.
I am with you nakamura05.

Agree Al Obundy, the league game is the only important one.
Noel, I also heard Robert G on the radio – as well as the Rangers fan who was chopped when asking about the profits being made from catering at Ibrox. Wonder where he got that idea?
Gerry, I heard the ‘Celtic board lied’ comment and we were not the only ones. Media companies should be more careful.
St Anthony, I could have sworn it was the other way about. Oh well.
Vinnie, hope your father is on the mend.

Murray may well have to go the extra mile, maybe even a country mile, for Big Feck(less). If he does, (from the data I am reading here re: 800K release clause on his contract) it may be more due to financial necessity than loyalty.
If this decision variable has the highest weighting for Mr. Murray they are really between a rock and a hard place. The offset on the analysis must be the improbability of Eck getting them into Europe and therefore having less to spend on a good manager (1m+ per season), and to fund his rebuilding effort of the team. Catch 22 for sure.
I think they have to speculate in Jan. Eck will stay till the end of the season. As it appears they (Rangers) do not have enough cash to buy big and attract a manager now.
I think their hands may be tied on this. They may have to stick with Eck and hope he can put them in a position that he can fund his replacement with a Euro spot.
That is my 10c.

Been lurking for a while! Why can't fans be arrogant about games against a team who have only won one league game away from Ibrox all season? As long as WGS keeps players feet on the ground our skill will prevail. Sorry to be so long winded but must quote Stephen McGowan from today's Daily Mail. "For McLeish, a dignified and decent sort, good fortune has, in fact, been a constant friend during his tenure at Rangers.
One glimpse of Saturday's Assistant referee Andy Davis puffing his way up and down the line should have been a reminder of that" Ouch!

The league cup has not been kind to us against them in recent years. Since 1975 we have played them 12 times, lost 10 and won 2 !
1975 LCF 0-1
1978 LCF 1-2
1982 LCF 2-1
1984 LCF 2-3
1986 LCF 1-2
1990 LCF 1-2
1993 S/F 0-1
1995 Q/F 0-1
2001 S/F 3-1
2002 S/F 1-2
2003 LCF 1-2
2005 Q/F 1-2
Here's hoping for a change in fortunes on Wednesday.

Hi all
Another fine victory yesterday at a difficult ground.I hope that there is no complacency among the players before Wednesday. They will be right up for it and wont take any prisoners, they will get away with hatchet tactics under the guise of being competitive. If they need a crucial decision or two they will get them.Any idea on who is the ref? If we play the fast attacking style we will run the legs off them, no doubts but it will be at a price. One more point how come the Greek Centre Half gets away with holding opposition players in the box, maybe he is invisible to our fair and balanced gentlemen of the refereeing community.

As a rule, I am always super-confident before Old Firm games, bragging to their followers about what we're gonna do to them. As Kojo would say:
"CAN'T HOIT!"
If we lose, I'll be miserable enough then. As the Good Lord said: "Never worry about tomorrow when today has enough worries of its own." Or words to that effect.
So I think we'll spank them 3-0 with a masterclass of high-paced passing-and-moving and devastating attacking play.
I'd keep the same staring 11 from yesterday on the grounds that there's no point rushing Sutton and Zurawski back with the important league game 10 days away, and McGeady does not deserve to be dropped.
One other point: looking at the way some Rangers players appeared to be breathing out of their posteriors last week against Artmedia, and also at the number of late fade-outs they've had this season, my guess is that they, as a team, are not fit. Certainly not as fit as Strachan's troops.
So let's run the legs off of them, playing at a tempo they simply can't live with.

PS, After a hard weekend, I've finally got round to finishing off my Under-19 match report. Simon Ferry - you know where you heard the name first. This boy is gonna be a star.

I hate talking about football but it is an interesting point celticblog brings up about fitness and one which seems to have been lightly debated.
A couple of season ticket holders from over there told me how shattered they , and in particular puurso looked after extending the unbeaten run.
I'd offer my own invaluable insights- like:
our young team, fitness, passing game, options of styles of play, goals scored, solid defence etc
but I hate talking about football.
Leave that for all the better educated out there

st.anthony. you are right to point out our miserable league cup record against Rangers however we didn't lose the 1978 final 2-1, we lost 3-2 in the semi final after extra-time with Casey as I recall scoring an OG to stop us from reaching an incredible 14th successive final. I have to say that I just can't believe that so many fans, both on CQN and elsewhere are saying that it is more important to win the league game than the cup tie. We should be as equally determined to win both games!

If anyone really wants to see the Traynor "article", it can be seen here:
http://senorpablodiablo.blogspot.com/
Even if you feel you are strong of constitution, have the sick bucket at the ready...
I removed it from CQN earlier, as I didn't think this was a suitable place to view such an appalling piece of work.
It's ironic that although I like to ignore the tabloids completely, to the point of interrupting friends when they attempt to tell me what was written in some newspaper or other, I find myself making this available.
I do so in the hope that anyone who reads it decides never to look at a tabloid newspaper again.
If we ignore them they will go away!

st.anthony. Sorry, I will get my apology in first, you are of course correct about the 1978 final, I got my years mixed up, this was 1977/1978 season,Gordon Smith scoring the winner at the Celtic end. The game I mentioned earlier just makes our record even worse! Let's hope we can correct the balance on Wednesday.

i remember last season after the victory v the huns (Bellamy & Stan) that you proclaimed that the Celtic teams(s) under MON were the 3rd best in Celtic's history, clearly on the assumption that we were about to win the league - we didn't, so stop getting carried away. Let's win some silverware

We all want to win both games but if fate or the laws of mathematical probability dictate we can only win one of them then its a no brainer!
The game on the 19th is all that matters. Yes Wednesday's game is important because we are playing THEM but it is the Diddy Cup and frankly is just so inferior to anything else we compete for.
Of course we want to win but I really don't care about it - that cup is a waste of space and the only thing I care about is making sure come Saturday evening of 19 November TFOD are well and truly sunk in terms of winning the Chammpionship.
Then, we can get down to making sure the threat from the East does not take on any momentum.
That has to be the focus - no matter what happens on Wednesday the most important game is that one on Saturday week.
-
Feel the confidence coming back after tip-toing through the last few months.
Time to start enjoying Celtic instead of watching TFOD slip deeper and deeper.- although both is nice.
Let's do the buisness come Wednesday-with some style.

When switching on the IProd does it say "hello hello"?
Any suggestions as to what the MiB would be listening to whilst making sure he gives TFOD every decision going on Wednesday?
How about "Tears of a Clown" just after sending the Big Greek doon the tunnel for the 45th attempt at breaking a Celtic player's leg.
Or how about downloading "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" in respect of Big Eck.
-
If we are only to win one of the games against TFOD surely it would be better to win the cup game.
Come the end of the season would it not be better to have all 3 domestic trophies in the cupboard, a treble for WGS in his first season.
If we do lose the league match it is unlikely they could close the gap anyway.
Prediction 4-0 and McManus to score the first goal in the second half

shamrock diary - I respect your point of view and as I referred to earlier you are not alone in holding it. However, I know how I will feel if we lose on Wednesday evening and it won't be any less painful than losing the league game. Anyway let's hope it's all hypothetical. The old adage of one game at a time should be the order of the day. st.anthony - further corection! we were on course for our 15th successive final in 1978.

On that subject of humming referees
Nice thing in the Sunday Herald yesterday on Stewart Fraser's match report from Mordor.
Jimmy Calderwood is reported as saying that when the Big Greek knocked over his player "his lads thought the ref was about to blow for a penalty until he realised the shove was in the box."
Now how bad is that! when even a bluer than blue, bluenose is suggesting that the MiB favoured the Rangers player.
Guess who the referee was - yes your pal and Lenny's - the one, the only Mr S Dougal.
Seriously you couldn't make this up if you tried.
