In the end he had to settle for a bad team playing bad football in a bad league.
For all the talk of his love of the club, Celtic is the equivalent of the knacker's yard for Keane.
The above comments are from a journalist on an Irish newspaper, not just some sections of the Scottish media that are anti-Celtic then!

Is it fair to say that John Hartson will not get any leaner. He still looks too heavy.

"There's been lots of speculation about comings and goings but speculation isn't a problem. It can't become fact unless I make it fact. Didier Agathe goes until the end of the season because I'm happy with Paul Telfer. It doesn't scare me losing one because at the same time I've young players coming through. Stephen will be here unless something dramatic happens. He trained very well today and, to be fair, at a lot of clubs he'd probably be playing now.
"Didier is different. His contract is up in the summer and that can be confusing for a player. Is he going or staying? It can have an adverse impact on the training camp. Six weeks ago he told you (the media) that he was fit but he got injured again straight afterwards. He told you he was fit and then got a groin strain and his groin strain has kept him out for five weeks. He's back on the training field this week so he's made a good recovery. Five weeks out with a groin strain and this week, suddenly, he's fit again."
Is it mere co-incidence that he'd rise up off the treatment table as soon as Leeds and Middlesbrough asked about him? Strachan thinks not. "Ability, hunger and fitness determines what the team is going to be. It's not because you've been here six years or seven years. It doesn't work that way." -WGS

The Hearts game probably confirmed all our fears that the current squad of SPL referees is the worst we have had for many a season.
Brines was way out of his league yesterday and ranks alongside Richmond,Thomson,
Underhill etc,as some of the most incompetent ever.
Clark and McCurry have both been caught Red-Handed( no pun intended - err OK it was!!) for being biased and their mean spiritedness and resentment shows almost every game, especially when they handle our games.
I feel its fair to say there is not one referee this season who we could claim had a decent game overall in any of our matches or for that matter any other SPL matches.
If anyone disagrees and has an upcoming favourite or potential fair and competent ref please let me know..

Bhoys would it matter who refereed our games?
Throughout my time i have never ever known any referee to give us much.
Hugh Dallas as a boy was a fervent Motherwell and Shotts Bon Accord supporter ,so you see although not a Rangers man he was still rank rotten as a referee so for BBJ to acknowledge him as great, mystifies me to say the least.
-
http://sport.scotsman.com/football.cfm?id=2478612005
The Celtic striker has no prejudices against particular match officials, although he does confess to admiration for the retired Hugh Dallas. It is something of a rarity for a footballer to pine for a referee.
"In these games, you always look for a ref who'll understand the physical side of the game," he said. "You want somebody who is open-minded, fair and decisive. I think Hugh Dallas was the best in the really big games, especially those involving the Old Firm.
"I know it's a very difficult job, but Hugh did it better than anybody else. He just knew how to handle these things. And I say that despite the fact that he sent me off one day at Pittodrie. But it was the correct decision.
"Some referees these days seem to feel their hands are tied, and stick to the letter of the law in case they get a rollicking from their bosses. But when others take the initiative and show a bit of tolerance, it can be a great help to everybody. I think Dallas achieved that fine balance better than anyone."
-
Al,
This seems to be the most common form of injury these days. That and cruciate knee damage.A few seasons ago we very rarely heard of cruciate injuries. I'm sure they happened but very rarely.
So what is the reason for the hamstring injury increase.? The much faster tempo of the game now? poor preparation, over-training.any theories?

Absolute rip snorter of a game.
Great character shown by the team, especially McManus after a none too convincing 1st half. I thought Pearson's contribution was immense and well done to Gordon for immediately switching him from wide left to through the middle. It allowed him to chase everything down.
I thought Brines was ok (amazing the difference in analysis a late winner makes!!), he gave soft fouls both ways and there was so much incident it would have been impossible to catch them all. Though, Hartley should have the book thrown at him, just like Bobo and Ricksen previously - an absolute disgrace. 18 months after his previous assault on Lennon.
-
Hugh Dallas had the power to overule his linesman on the Rangers injury time penalty incident last season. He didn't do it.
The reason he didn't do it was not a bias on his part, but fear in my eyes as to the view his referee bosses would have taken.
So you see he is no different from the rest of them,in fact i believe he has joined them in evaluating referee performance this season.
Nothing has changed in my eyes, we still have to go out and murder teams in order to put things beyond the need for a referee to rob us off an outcome!
-
Hamstrings - Zurawski and Petrov both played when they shouldn't have. Beattie, I'm sure has had hamstring injuries before and it is common amongst fast players, particularly strikers who have to burst into speed. Well that's my theory anyway.
-
Paul 67: I have to agree with you regarding the feeling being very similar to those late 70s / 80s last gasp wins.
The real euphoria at the end was magnified by the efforts that Webster et al had gone to to secure the result (IMO we cannot be hugely critical as they were desparate for the result but we were just good enough).
A similarity with 70s and 80s was in that we really had to graft against adversity, poor officials, hostile environment, 2 goals down, the fact we are not 'the finished article' etc.
The great thing that we have potential to improve and we understand what needs to be done to do that. The job done by the management (PL GS) in churning squad has IMO started very well (aided by shocking form across the city) the next phase AT / CS /DA etc will be vital in establishing a solid base from which we can really exploit our potential pot 2 status next year.

Re Keane
Without seeing the context it is difficult to know if this article is anti Celtic. I do believe there are some journalists in Ireland who are also anti Roy Keane !!
-
Referee's & assistants have a difficult enough task to ensure the rules are applied. Being only human they are certain to make mistakes, as do the players. The Players & Managers however make an difficult task impossible by claiming decisions which are clearly not theirs, disputing every throw-in / free kick and throwing themselves to the ground at every opportunity.
At Half-time on the match reports, many fans wanted various players replaced either by substituion or transfer, something like 7 of the starting 11.
In the Lions era we can now look back at results such as :
Dunfermline 4 - Celtic 5
Hibs 3 - Celtic 5
and glory in the magnificent fighting spirit of the players. Do today's players no deserve the same glory ?
Remember prior to the game Hearts had lost 2 goals at home all season, we scored THREE could have had 2 penalties and had another "goal" dis-allowed. Not withstanding an excellent missed opportunity by Stan.
Ignore the talk of the referee, the off the ball incidents, the usual lunatic coin throwing morons...lets instead talk about the superb spirit within the team. Gordon Strachan is fully aware of the short-comings and will doubtless attend to them in due course.
How many fans would have taken Balde off at half time, also McManus as both had been booked ala Inverness. Gordon Strachan proved again his judgement was above reproach, he will make mistakes like any other manager. But he has surely earned the right to enjoy the glory with HIS team.

Strachan insists there is more to come from his players and said: "We have to really win things to get that winning mentality."
He added: "There are a lot of players here who have got that obviously, but because of the turnover of players in the last six months, some players have not really got it.
"They are competing at the moment but they have not won too much. But once you get the first trophy behind you, it is easier to perform and you enjoy it more."

Williebhoy,
a good posting. GS is not yet above reproach. I too was surprised that Mc Geadie had been dropped for AT. Ok Alan Thompson has been "buzzing in training" and I´m sure it was a reward to a senior player for having the right attitude. Good man management I reckon. He said the same about Pearson as well though and Pearson only managed to get on because of Stans injury. I´m glad Pearson done something as it has made GS rethink and losing Pearson at this stage may come back to bite us. We definitely need legs in midfield

Hamstrings.

Celtic like all other top clubs have access to the best form off preventative medical and physio information, but the game is so fast and furious now that hamstring injuries are commonlplace throughout the footballing world.

Thanks Awe Naw....
I'n not suggesting Gordon Strachan is beyond total reproach, perhaps badly worded...but is now surely allowed some slack for his decisions.
We are not party to the official reasons for such as Agathe - Sutton - Pearson and others being left out. Nor do I wish to know any further rumours / whispers. I am content to let the man in charge continue his good work to date. He took control at a difficult time and has suprassed by best expectations domestically. Of course we all hoped we could participate in Europe, but realistically could we truly compete or merely make up the numbers just like Rangers. While the financial aspects would have been an advantage, our confidence / progress may have taken longer.
Gordon Strachan has shown excellent man management to date, he also knows the game from top to bottom a time served manager. With Peter Lawell taking care of the contracts side of things. I await our transfer dealings with interest not fear.

Hello all,
Long time since I posted but still reading always!.
Now appears to be a good time of where we sit.
Goalkeeper:-
Best keeper I have seen at CP in at least 20 years... As confident as they come despite what is in front of him.
Defense:-
As we all know, without doubt THE problem area of the team. With BB away there will never be a better time than to give Du Wei , Virgo ( or both) a run out to see what they are made of. Telfer is average but should keep his place until something better arrives. The left back is a major problem and should be tackled!! in the transfer window.. it is now the weakest link in the team and despite Wallace getting forward well we need a quility stopper first and foremost. apart from anything the lad is simply not big enough to be a defender.
Midfield:-
Until recently the best performing area of the team with both NL and SP having their best form for a couple of years, but both have went off the boil recently and the arrival of RK will be perfect for getting them re-focussed.
Naka is without doubt the heart of this team.. I had my doubts about him when he signed but he mainly because of his size but he has been a revelation and easily our most creative player since Lubo.My only slight critisism is that he does not go forward with the ball often enough but really I am nitpicking here.
Again the problem is the left side.
McGeady has been good/bad/indifferent too many times (a fact that WGS has also noticed otherwise he would have started yesterday) and again a quality left sided midfielder in the Jan sales would not go amiss.
Forwards:-
With MZ and CB still to come back we still have plenty of options. SM has dipped a bit in recent weeks and once the others are fit could benefit from a rest BBJ is the same as ever... whenever we want to write him off he piches in with important goals.
Sutton should now be moved on. I never thought I would hear myself say this as for me he has been THE most important player for us in the last 5 years but 7 games played on 30k a week does not represent value for money and that money could be used to fund new signings. Apart from anything else he just does not look interested even whwn he has played.
The Fringes:-
AT has been a wonderful servant these last years but has clearly not got the pace to survive in this team. Like Sutton he should be given our huge thanks and moved on.
Agathe has only ever had a hidden agenda and should also be shipped out. Pearson should be re-tained... with a decent run in the team (perhaps in the problem left slot) my guess is he could become a great assett.
We are not that far away from becoming a right good team who could equip themselves in the CL but some good quality is needed in the problem areas, and the shipping out of the above mentioned high earners could go a long way to funding these buys.
The most pleasing thing though has been the return of the hunger and desire which has been missing for the last season and a half.
We were not in top form yesterday, yet despite going 2 down to our closest rivals we came back for the points. There is no way that would have happened last season an WGS should be given enourmous credit for instilling both the drive and the FITNESS of this team.
Finally and a bit off topic. I watched the game yesterday in my local pub which has a good mix of Huns/Celts and the banter is usually good. Without exception, every Huns fan was cheering on the Hearts despite the fact that a Celtic victory represented their best chance of CL football at the blue room next season, and at the final whistle the banter got unusually out of control when we nicked the game.... No wonder Murray gets away with all his schemes... his teams fans are as shortsighted as his business accumen!!.
Finally finally.
Why does Hartley play like this every time he plays us... is it sour grapes that he didnt get his move or is he a closet hun.. The boy is off his head

I think Strachan mentioned he was going to put Pearson on anyway before Stan got injured - I'd imagine he'd have replaced Thompson.
I don't understand why Petrov has being playing the last few weeks, he is clearly unfit and ineffective. Saying that I can sympathise with WGS on that one - who does he really have to replace him? Thompson? Lawson? Pearson? Although Pearson was fantastic I doubt he'd have played as well if he started. The only player I can think of who plays similar to Petrov is Simon Ferry and he's only 17 and unproven. Until the past few weeks I believed we had good depth in midfield.
Keane will improve things but considering there is a good chance that Sutton may be leaving and that we are already playing with one natural striker up front I feel we aren't quite strong enough in that department. (Saying this I do believe we've been unlucky with injuries in the striking department)
The point is - it's not just new full-backs we need.
-

I think ideally Maloney would be playing on the left (where he was playing when he was at his best this season). Once MZ or CB comes back I think him and McGeady will be fighting it out for this position. Both players can change a game in seconds in their own ways. I tend to think Maloney is more consistent and gives more when not playing well.
-
Great result yesterday!
I'm on catchup, but from the previous article on Celtic fans booing players, the sad reality is that it is not a new phenomenon.
I remember seeing David Moyes booed at games regularly when he came into the team, and after scoring an og in one game he was sarcastically applauded afterwards everytime he touched the ball. He was a nervous wreck and it finished his career at Parkhead.
Leopards and spots comes to mind.
-
Was at the game yesterday, absolutely elated at the end, you couldn`t wipe the smiles off of the tic fans faces with a meat cleaver, though i`m sure some of the Gorgie louts would have tried! Part of that joy was seeing those same Gorgie faces after the arrogance they had shown, including the half time announcer who kept going on about what a great first half it had been. As for the game, we stood up and were counted yesterday. Didn`t think we could pull it back in such a way, glad to be proved wrong. Think we are desperately needing a left back, Ross Wallace keeps getting exploited with his lack of height, especially at Pressleys goal, a taller defender would have headed it off the line. As for the off the ball incidents, Lennon will get the same treatment as Hartley, though I hope NEVER to see him wear the hoops, to me he`s not far behind Mo Johnston for his `treason`. Wonder if he`ll want to have a lunge at any of our small and young players if that Irish guy we`ve signed, whats his name, is playing? Enough, its a new year and hoopfully a very happy new year firstly to Paul for initiating this forum, and to all the contributors who have made it unique.
-
Hi Paul and All Happy New Year,
Where do I start a brilliant game yesterday. Analysing the game, first half we didn’t really click- hearts capitalized on poor defending. Second half, we seem to grind results out when it matters i.e. the hibs game when we were 2-1 down we did this yesterday.
The defence looks very shaky. Bobo has been slated lately from the media etc, and he didn’t look confident at all yesterday. I believe this has in turn made McManus look the same. Wallace is not a left back; he tries to play football to much. Telfer although he has been solid, his distribution is poor, and in a system where we rely on our fullbacks for width this is not good enough. Bobo will probably not get back in the team when he is back; McManus will not be a regular next year.
For the first goal Telfer went forward and was caught out of position, hearts broke quick and exposed this. Balde got too tight on the hearts striker-who turned him with ease and played his teammate in down the line. With lennon struggling to get back we got hit with the sucker punch. This just goes to show how important pace is in the modern game. hearts turned defence into attack with the snap of a finger, something we couldn’t do in the first half, and something that was changed when pearo came on.
The second goal was Boruc's fault he came and didn’t collect. Paul there is something I have to disagree with you on, McManus wasn’t entirely to blame-fair enough he was out jumped but celtic are not man marking when it come to corners. If you watch the game again and in particular look at hearts corners you will see celtic are defending in zones. McManus,Hartson, Balde do not mark as for the rest of the set up when it comes to corners, they just protect areas. McManus expected Boruc to collect he failed- they scored.
The second half was changed with the introduction on pearson. The midfield looks to pedestrian with Thommo, Lennon and Naka, it lacks pace. Thommo is not going to run at people like pearo or McGeady and put the opposition on the back foot. I would let him go, he only played yesterday because of his experience.
To be honest I thought Pearsons time was up, but if he plays like that regularly he is an assets his pace and movement were quality yesterday.
Now Balde goes away to the ANC, I believe McManus is suspended, Petrov needs a rest, and Lennon will be possibly be looking at a ban. If Mcmanus isn’t banned for the cup then put keane in midfield with lennon, and Du wei in at the back.
If Lennon is banned in the league, Keane goes in with Petrov. DuWei and McManus/Virgo, depending on the length of his McManus’ suspension.
I’m not sure we will sign in January, I don’t think we will need centre halves as I believe we have enough lads waiting to prove themselves. However, we need full backs. A left back is a priority. But with the squad we have we will still win the league.
We have a good squad but some people will have to leave, and I would like to see some leadership at the back. We are a work in progress, and I believe the main transformation will come in the summer. We will see a new back four, one that will be solid enough for the Champs League.
Hail Hail

I'd be delighted if we were offered £1m for Sutton. A great player no doubt but taking age and injuries into consideration I'd snatch Everton's arm and half their bodies off for £1m!
Saying that if he saved their season I'm sure they'd think it is value for money.

Being reported that Mark Wilson could be a Celtic player by the end of the day.
-
Wouldn't be too dissapointed by that, wouldn't say he is a fantastic player but haven't really watched him enough. However the way he plays does not suggest he is only 21... certainly a brigh future.
Also, I think he is a Celtic supporter?

Just out of interest, where is it being reported?

Unlike the "Murpheys"....................
Hearts captain Steven Pressley claims "the better side lost" after Celtic snatched two late goals and all three points at Tynecastle on New Year's Day.
The second-placed home side were poised to narrow the gap on the Bank of Scotland Premier League leaders to one point after racing into a two-goal lead after only seven minutes, but they lost that advantage and tripped up 3-2.
Scotland international Pressley told PA Sport: "To play in the manner we did and come away with nothing is bitterly disappointing."
He added: "In the first half especially, we played some of the best football of the season.
"Full credit to Celtic, they showed great desire and great application, but I still think over the course of the 90 minutes that the better side lost.
"We didn't quite get the second balls as we did in the first half but we must remember that we were playing against a good Celtic side and you can't expect us to dominate for 90 minutes.
"But I thought we played extremely well and on another day we would have won the game."

Sweet, so very sweet.
I thought all the "neutral" pundits were needing sick bags.
Still need to improve but hopefully Thommo and Big Chris, hasn't looked interested since MON left, will move on sooner rather than later and we can spend the money on a new left back.
Happy New Year to all.

I think part of our defensive problems stems from the type of player we have in wide midfield.
McGeady and Nakamura are ball players and the defensive part of the game is something that both are still learning.
As a result we are often attacked on the break from wide areas. It also doesn't make it easier that the full backs are often pushing up.
This leaves McManus and Balde with too much space to cover at times.
This still does not excuse the stupid mistakes that individuals have made recently.
I don't know where RK will play but having him on the park to help organise can only help.
After Bobo's first half performance yesterday I hape Guinea have a long run in the African Nations Cup.
-
Congratulations to all on CQN, a great source of news and well-thought out opinion.
Celtic could well be on the verge of something exceptional and a lot will depend on what progress the bunch of highly talented younger players make in the coming season. There is true quality among several of the younger bunch.
I am impressed by many aspects of Gordon Strachan's management approach. For example, I see the Telfer situation as being short-term. At the beginning of the season I expected Gary Irvine to be holding down the right-back slot at Celtic Park throughout the season. An unfortunate injury put paid to this plan and I believe that Paul Telfer was brought in as short-term cover until Irvine could recover.
Undoubtedly, the team could do with some improvement. Much as I like and admire Neil Lennon, I think the biggest lack at present is of a true leader on the pitch, someone in the mould of Billy McNeill or Roy Aitken. But such leaders emerge rather than be signed.
In the coming transfer window I believe the priority should be a strong left back with good defensive capabilities. If Santa was kind he may also think about giving us a creative mid-fielder with goal-scoring potential.
Good wishes to all for 2006 !!

Spot on with your squad observations however (like Malone19) I do think Maloney is less effective as an out and out striker and he will revert to his earlier form when playing wide left on the return of MZ or CB.
Re Agathe and his agenda, I find it a bit confusing that everyone (including GS) are suggesting Agathe is trying to manouvere his way out or in some way malingering.
For me the guy showed Celtic commitment and capability by coming back from injury for the big games last season (when clearly not fully fit), and putting in a great shift in the big Old Firm game that should have really mattered (2-1 at Ibrox).
I understand he has also recently opened a resturant in Livingston area which does not seem consistent with the actions of someone who wishes to move to Teeside or Leeds ?
I still think he would be a better option than Telfer, he certainly would provide some pace in defense. I don't think he is hugely expensive either....certainly not in the AT / CS or BB league.
You say a huge thanks to AT and CS, for me they have done a very good job and enjoyed very very good money. I don't think either were going places fast in their careers when Celtic stepped in so I think mutual thanks is in order. It is time to move on. For those who think Sutton is a real long term solution as a defender have another look at the 2-3 Scottish Cup Final if you dare....
-
A lot of people are leaving massively negative comments about Paul Hartley which is understandable from yesterday's performance.
But to say that you don't want him to sign for the club is, in my view, a tad silly.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't exactly enjoy the way that he responded to the sitauations that he found himself in yesterday but he does display a real winner's attitude (as per yesterday)and plays an attacking midfield role which would certainly enhance our attacking options.
I also think that Celtic should sell Bobo asap.
OK, the tin hat is on......
-
-
Hi all
Absolutely ecstatic after yesterdays result, I had my doubts that we would be strong enough to win there but superior fitness got us there.
2 penalties denied ,what is the rule about Maloney's disallowed goal?
Hartley should never be considered as a signing for us, that challenge was the challenge of a coward also add on the cigar smoking gestures to the Celtic support.
Im sure GS knows the areas to strenghthen and I look forward to these changes in the window that will boost us for the title run in.
Just a thought if Black Sunday hurt us think what it has done to the psychology of the players, wins like yesterday can only be of massive benefit.

Afternoon Gents and a Happy New Year to you all.
Firstly, I posted earlier on CQN and thank you to the 2 blokes who tried endlessly to get me two tickets, unfortunately I was again let down with tickets for the match, however I managed to get chatting with a Hearts supporter from Gorgie who promised to get me two tickets for the Main Stand. The little sh*te gave me two tickets for the Wheatfield Stand instead and this was only noticing it after he had taken my money and p*ssed off (nice man), however, giving the lad the benefit of the doubt (well it was the New Year), I entered the ground without my clubs colours.
The next few hours had the be an eye opener.
How dare these Hertz supporters say that only the East of Scotland has issues with bigotry, they were an absolute disgrace. I never heard so much bile than what I did when I was sitting in their piggery.
What joy I had at the final whistle, even when Celtic scored the winner and myself and my best mate went ballistic and to see your faces the ball hit the back of the net.
What a day
-
Emu, don`t think you could afford one, coming straight out of an orphanage into a quality flat, however check the site out before it closes, and if you can fly,(obviously your past keeper couldn`t)do me a small favour and fly over on match day, and do your `stuff` on Paul Hartley. Tim my effinarse!
-
Agathe has just bought a new house but I wouldn't see that stop him moving
-
I think we are being abit hard on Balde and McManus. The overall number of goals conceded is due to the make up of the entire team. We are physically weak all over the park. Keane will help but Balde going to the Africian Nations will mean we are even lighter. Sutton going also means the squad is weaker. Not a great problem as CS has not contributed much this season.
Hopefully with Agathe, Sutton moving on we can get a quality left back in (preferably with a bit of presence).

Good afternoon ...another wee observation from yesterday. Did anyone else notice the antics of the two so-called Hearts mascots before the kick-off? Their rude gestures and general aggressive behaviour towards the Celtic fans wasn't exactly in keeping with the spirit of the season! Yet another reason why it was so sweet to gub them. They really don't like the
Celtic down Gorgie way do they? You wouldn't see our own Hail Hail howling, happy huddle hound Hoopy behaving in such a fashion.
-
Discybhoy, Hartley displays a real winners attitude, as per yesterday......erm... what was the score again?
Hartley is a player I would have liked to see at CP but not anymore, with his get it right up you attitude to Celtic fans, but most of all his horrible (unprovoked) lunge at Ross Wallace. Kissing the Hearts badge, a team with morals as bad as You know who, to me is selling your soul.
-
Hartley is a total disgrace.
Excuse the french but he is a total sh*tebag for kicking out the way he did at the smallest guy on the field.
-
Bobby Russell,
Did I mention who won the game?
No,I didn't. What I meant was that he really wanted to win for his team.
Mike Galloway did the same at Hearts but when he signed for Celtic, he would have ran through a brick wall for the jersey!!
-
Yah beauty, 60th!
1-0 to Kilmarncok at half time
-
KD-FfM
I was at that game and a sizeable minority from the jungle, tried to start up a song, Davie Moyes yer a w..., yer a w....., the jungle eh, nostalgia ain't what it used to be!
On the subject of Hartley, I don't think anyone doubts his ability as a player, at the last Tynecastle game versus Celtic (you know the one, keeper going up for corners when there was nothing at stake, only trying to stop Celtic winning the league)you would have thought he was a born and bred Hun, after scoring his Goal.
-
OK My take on a few things.
I posted WGS quote earlier about Agathe. That sums it up. If Agathe has been feigning injury and picking up a wage. Then goodbye Didier. The more wages we can put to use the better.
CS will also go in the January window if any EPL club will pay a Boboesque level of wages. If he will not do a Lenny or a Keano and take a drop then he has to go and will if any EPL team is willing to pay him more than what we are. Hence why WGS is touting him. AT might even go the same way.
Bobo Balde has already proven that he is not cut out at CL level. He has not improved. He is still by far the best defender we still have and Virgo and Du Wei have lots to prove. Many an SPL striker will be glad to see the back of Bobo. At 28K a week he is way too expensive and I suspect that he will be sold this summer.
WHy do we have such a glut of Youth players coming through that are midfielders and forwards ? that definitely needs addressed.
We haven´t had a natural full back , never mind a quality one since Danny Mc Grain and I include Tom Boyd in that summation. How many generations of converted winger-to-fullbacks have we at Celtic had to endure and what did we do in Europe with them ? - NOWT !!!
We´re on the right road. I would love to see us open up a large gap at the top of the SPL and really prepare for the summer
-
Historyreader :
Why are you pro Killie today. For me Hibs finishing 3rd is a better long term possibility than Killie for 4th ?
-
Happy, healthy and peaceful new year to all (absolutely including EdwardUrsus and other real and decent Rangers fans).
Things coming together nicely. WGS doing the biz.
-
Hello everybody,
great comeback, brilliant result. In my pre-match post I said the defence would be the key area for us yesterday,at half-time I was dreading being right for the wrong reasons. The good thing to come out of the game, was it proved the youngsters have the character and the bottle for a battle.
The next few weeks will be interesting defensively.Paul am I right in thinking McManus's booking means a ban,if thats the case and BoBo is away then WGS will be forced into playing a new central defence pairing.IMO we also need new full-backs.I dont have a problem with young Wallace as a footballer, just not at left-back.A couple of times yesterday he tried to play his way out of trouble instead of clearing his lines, which could have been costly but fortunately were not.He doesn't have a defensive mentallity I prefer my defenders to have this as their first requirement.
As much as I am a fan of Stan's,when he went off yesterday we got the ball forward a lot quicker. This put pressure on Hearts back four and allowed us to play further up the pitch, that in turn allows people like Naka to operate where they can hurt teams.Pearson deserves a lot of credit for his running at the Hearts defence which unsettled them.
Any questions regarding RK where also answered yesterday,he will walk into the mid-field.
Webster trying to get BBJ sent off yesterday was despicable,we all try for an advantage when it suits but there is limits. He should take the time to look at the incident again and ask himself what happened to his morals.
Anyway great start to the New Year, cant wait for RK's debut.
Yours John_b.

Awe_Naw
Spot on about full backs. I'm in my mid 30s and if I was to name my all time Celtic XI that I have seen I'd have Danny at right back and struggle to fill in the left back position. Even then it would probably be a choice between Boyd & Wdowczyk (apologies if that is nowhere near the correct spelling).
One and if possible 2 good full backs in the transfer window and I'll feel a lot more comfortable about winning this league.
-
Dessybhoy you asked about the offside rule in relation to the disallowed goal yesterday. The referee definitely called it wrong as the following extracts from the FIFA Q&As clarifying rule 11(offside) show.
What does gaining an advantage by being in that position mean?
The International Football Association Board defines it as
- playing a ball that rebounds off a post or the crossbar after having been in an offside position, or
- playing a ball that rebounds off an opponent after having been in an offside position.
6. Player A plays the ball to a team-mate B in an onside position, although
there is another attacker C in an offside position. Play continues, and
afterwards, in the next phase of play, player B sends the ball to player
C, who now is in an onside position. He scores a goal. What action
does the referee take?
The referee awards the goal; because when player C received the ball
he was in an onside position. He would not be penalised for being in
an offside position in the fi rst phase since he was not involved in active
play.
To put it simply once Pearson played the ball off the post he started a new phase of play and Maloney was onside. Poor officiating by the linesman and referee.
-
Was it not Webster who collapsed looking poleaxed by BBJ a season or two back, which at the time looked like it happened only for further scrutiny to exonerate Big John? Also agree with a previous poster about the Hearts mascots making rude and inflammatory gestures at us. But that just made it all the sweeter, he he he. Discybhoy, don`t want to fall out with a fellow tim, and I do get your point, but Hartley has crossed a line of no return, i.e. his celebrations when scoring in what would be a meaningless win last season, the cigar smoking victory sign yesterday,(the cigar went out about the 93rd min)and the kick on a wee boy, not Bobo or Mick, yesterday. FPH

While I am in legalistic mode I believe the referee interpreted the rules as follows in the red card incident.
Direct Free Kick
A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits
any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee
to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• trips or attempts to trip an opponent
• jumps at an opponent
• charges an opponent
• strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
• pushes an opponent
Sending-Off Offences
A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the
following seven offences:
1. is guilty of serious foul play
2. is guilty of violent conduct
3. spits at an opponent or any other person
4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity
by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a
goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
5. denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving
towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick
or a penalty kick
6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
7. receives a second caution in the same match
A player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the fi eld of
play and the technical area.
He awarded the free kick as defined in the first bullet point, which incidentally renders Rix's comment irrelevant as intent is sufficient.
The referee then too the view that the incident qualified for a red card under the 5th category.
Looking at the incident I am not sure this was an obvious goal scoring opportunity but in my view Maloney would certainly have collected the ball. The issue then is the extent to which Gordon would have closed him down. My own opinon is that the decision was hard but can be justfied in the context of having to make an instant decision.

Martinobhoy... TOMMY GEMMELL!! ....really....kids these days...:)
Fullbacks....there really aren't any on the books. MON had no use for them, and the reserves, youths all played the same way.
Scapegoats....it can be tempting to look to one player to blame for our defensive woes. It's a team game, however. About 6 weeks ago, opposing teams started to exploit the channel between our left back and CB. While we have changed the LB...not for the better (yet)...I think that the CB's are compensating for a team mate that they don't completely trust.
Also...someone made the point about the relationship between wide midfielders and full backs. Spot on! None of our wide players are particularly strong defensively, and this doesn't help our relatively week FB's.
Pace in central midfield....Dear God, I hope Kojo doesn't see this...but you don't really see what we are missing in there until real pace in the shape of Pearson appears. When our FB's get in advanced positions, and we give the ball away...(Naka yesterday on their first goal)....we get really exposed. Not only are the FB's caught up the park, but we don't have the pace elsewhere to compensate.
Transfer windows.....I said that the manager needs 2 more windows to fully build his team. Forgive me if I change that to 3. Painful as it will be to see Sutton...and Thompson leave...they have been great servants....but their departures are only part of the equation. It may be that their replacement might not arrive until a future window.
Patience, and all that........
-
Weeron
I never saw Tommy Gemmell play.
-
Weeron,
the only two decent fullbacks we have had in my life time is Danny Mc Grain and Tommy Gemmel. You ask for patience but really 30 years to fill two positions is not asking a lot.
Time to get this sorted. In fact I´d be happy with 1 every 10 years. Not greedy is it ?
-
2-2 final result at Rugby Park, Hibs four points ahead of Rangers and six points behind Hearts and Killie now one point behind the team in fourth place.
-
Andycol
Excellent info. Been asking myself the question all day. Galling to think Jock Brown actually called it right when he said that as soon as Perason touched the ball Maloney was no longer offside.
-
Martinobhoy...sorry to hear that. Do check out the videos. Lisbon is a decent one..:)
Awe Naw....I'd agree with you, if you were saying they were the only World Class ones we've had in that period. Decent doesn't quite capture that essence of these two quite wonderful defenders.
There's me showing my age again..:)
-
andycol
Thanks for the explanation.
-
Seems like I'm hogging the blog today.....
San Fran Tic...re Ch67....they have never responded to any of my emails re tech support. Ever.
Right now, it is an amatuer operation, run by amatuers. I guess the business decision is whether to run a professional operation, and that would be based on whether the numbers could support it.
What I would say is this...if you have a CSC in your town, please go and support it. I know it's tough on the west coast with early KO's, but whoever is running a CSC is working real hard and would welcome even the odd visit.
Soapbox now put away....:)
-
I have every sympathy for John Hartson.
Every time he challenges for a 50/50 ball in the air he is penalised, unless he himself is blatantly fouled.
Hearts' players picked up on this yesterday and tried to cheat the referee, Webster being a good example.
Anyway, hats off to big John for another disciplined, selfless 94 minutes.
-
Surely, Mcmanus must get the benefit of the doubt - as it is a breakthrough season and as such I think he's doing great. It's a difficult position for younger players to break in to. All said and done he did win the match yesterday too.
If partnered with Keane - I feel he could develop in to an immense player. What role model has the young guy had to date?
Worrying speculation that Henke may join Son of Satan at Newcastle as a short term replacement for the injured Owen. I'd treat that as betrayal!!
Couldn't he come back for just one more season?
-
Awe Naw
Re full backs, I think we could also add Davie Hay to McGrain and Gemmell as world class.
Although Davie also played in midfield he was superb for his initial period in the 1st team as right back.
Are there any views as to who would constitute a good realistic signing target for either of the in the two full back areas ?
-
Cultsbhoy,
McManus has done us a turn be he aint the answer. Over the moon when he got the goals yesterday, but that aside if you look at it objectively and his overall defending recently has been really poor not just the past few weeks but a couple of months now, possibly greater.
He loses the first ball in the air to opponents too often. Gets dragged out of position and leaves himself exposed as well.
If you were going into the CL with McManus and the rest of the defence at present we would be lambs to the slaughter.
Remember MON gave youbg Stephen a game against Shaktar last year and he got a hell of a time that night.
WE NEED A BRAND NEW BACK FOUR.
-
With regard to decent fullbacks since the departure of the peerless bearded wonder-Mark Reid was a decent player, not the quickest, but with a good relationship with Tommy Burns down the left side.
From the last thread the first goalie Portsmouth had was a young Scots GP called Arthur Conan Doyle.
Julio Iglesias was a goalie with Real Madrid, before going on to sleep with 1000 women, unlike Karel Wojtila who was a goalie and later Pope, and celibate.Albert Camus also played between the sticks.
Neil Young wrote'Powderfinger'for Lynyrd Skynyrd, and was a pallbearer at Ronnie van Zant's funeral.
The SFA are looking at Hartley and Lenny for otb incidents during yesterday's game.
-
Weeron
I'm sorry too but dont worry I've seen the video of Lisbon and the great Mr Gemmell. It looks like there were a couple of other decent players in that side as well......
-
San Fran_Tic,
Your problem is very easily taken care of.
The time of the year may be a factor, in the lack of alacrity in
the Chan67 response.
By the time that you read this, your problem will, in all odds, already be a thing of the past.
All that is required is that a New License, be issued ,by Chan67.
If, unfortunately ,you are still without a return in correspondence, I suggest...
In your next communication to Chan67, ask that you wish for the particular attention of.......CRAIG.
He is a Computer Whiz.....and also a Doll!
A little explanation...each new subscriber to Chan67 receives ONE LICENSE,at the time of subscribing.
Your trouble emanated from a glitch, which occurred as a result of conflict, with the New Streaming Technology and your Win Media.
Getting too Technical....I do not want to confuse the issue.
However, I am very confident that your problem will be taken care of, and once more you will be able to enjoy this wonderful service, which is provided so inexpensively, by Chan67.
Yours in Celtic,
Mabel.

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a good new year.
Well, that was breathless stuff yesterday, was it not?
What a magnificent victory yesterday. I just LOVE beating those east coast huns, especially in the circumstances we did yesterday. Coming back from two goals down against a team which had only conceded two goals there all season, really is quite magnificent.
The thing that pleases me most about the win , is the way that Hartley must be feeling now. His showboating at the corner and his "cigar" gesture to the Celtic fans during the first half, sure came back to haunt him at the end of the game. The assault on Wallace was both outragous and cowardly, for which he should receive a lengthy ban. IMO, he should NEVER be signed by Celtic. He can rot at Swinecastle, watching us win the league!!
Also, credit where credit is due. I have had a go at Telfer recently over his performances, especially over his distribution. However, yesterday, I thought he played his best game for us, especially second half. So, well done to him
-
Cheers BigYinMilan.
Mabel, stick in and one day you will cut the mustard on an IT Help Desk – always good to have a trade behind you, you never know…
I am sure Craig will be delighted at his description.
-
Paul,
Still on cloud nine after yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. My Dad reckons Hearts have always hated us more than the mob from Ibrox. Thinking about it, I think he is probably not too far off the mark, ceetainmly in recent times. Personally, I remember a game about summer of 67 or 68 when Tynecastle reverberated to the recently released We all live in a yellow submarine, which had little or no sectarian nonsense chanted at all. I think we won that 4-3.
Your observation about our fitness levels is spot on. I think Hearts were out on their feet in the last 25 minutes.
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.
Personally, I don't care how good Hartley may prove to be; after his general behaviour yesterday, he should never be allowed to play for us. Scum, in my opinion.
-
I think Lennon is need of much praise for his performance.
He has been harshly slated by many since Keane's arrival but yesterday was a true captains performance. He protected his players and fought for EVERYTHING.
I also thought he was one of the coolest people on the park contrary to what the media would have us believe. Straight from the off Brown was looking for things to attack Lennon with.
Fair play to our captain an inspiratoin performance
:-)
-
Parkheadcomesalford, I totally concur about Hearts. I have been among the home support at Tynecastle a couple of times when I could not get a ticket among the Celtic support – unbelievable bile, as ‘Sutton must stay’ has testified.
-
86 Minutes: Hearts 2-1 Celtic
1 Celtic 21 31 48
2 Hearts 21 27 47
87 minutes: Stephen McManus Goal Hearts 2-2 Celtic
1 Celtic 21 30 49
2 Hearts 21 26 45
90 Minutes: Stephen McManus Goal Hearts 2-3 Celtic
1 Celtic 21 33 51
2 Hearts 21 25 44
thats all :)
-
Andycol, thanks for that, I know the new offside rule scenario, but didn't know the full "attempt" to kick or trip part of the direct free kick ruling. Reminded me of the Lambo / Albertz penalty when Lambo had his teeth knocked out. Nobody questioned that decision at the time and they were right not to.
I've saved both of these rulings for future debates.

Best wishes on drying out and I hope you are safe from mud slides. I had basement flooding problems last April and the only advice I can offer is to make sure you dry it out quickly as mould spores can be very harmful health wise.
Re Ch67 I can only speak for myself and a couple of acquaintances here on the eastern seaboard. All of us have subscribed to Ch67 and Replay for a number of years. I am personally very happy with the current service I receive from Ch67.
In the past I have had a lot of assistance from Beccy Swain in resolving issues or indeed getting explanations of outages, from Beccy Swain in the media team:

I hope she is still there.

Don't know what anyone else's opinion is but this lad regularly has me purring like the cat who's had the cream. I know I keep hearing so many observers - Murdo Mc Leod Craig Burley and the like go on about what he hasn't done as yet but for me he's just such a delight to watch and a major contributor to the flowing style of football Gordon Strachan is treating us to. The word that consistently springs to mind is "economy" He consistently seems only to require the minimum of effort in moving the play on, spraying passes around and generally mesmerising the opposition. He's already my player of the year and if these observers are right that there's more to come I for one can't wait.

On Hols got my youngest son up at 5am and enjoyed the hospitality of the LACSC--gentlemen(and women) one and all..A HUGE THANKYOU my 10 year old continues to be amazed at the global phenomenon that is the Celtic Movement.
My older son couldn't raise his young teen head after a late night/early morning rendition of auld lang syne on the santa monica rooftops.
Anyway was it worth it ??WAS IT WORTH IT !!!!!!What a game what a team .
BBJ was immense Naka magnificent ,particularly in second half. I was delighted to see Pearson reproduce his Barca form and to see WGS quickly move him to the centre mid position.
As regards the "WIProgress" the defence needs sorting and I am looking forward to seeing Du Wei.....that's twice he's looked like he's been about to come on now. WGS sends him out to warm up but he doesn't get on...he must be champin at the bit..maybe WGS does it to wake Bobo up ?
Mabel/Paul67 looks like you have links to Ch67 (one of your cutomers Paul?). I think San_Fran_Tics problem is that he has fallen foul of the new licensing system. You are only allowed one licence so if you download it onto your home pc you then can't log on at work...I had/have the same problem.
Anyway back to London tomorrow..Paid a nice visit to Saint Monica's and got a nice (but different from LACSC!!) welcome as always..this is a great place .
Happy days!!
2006 is shaping up to be great!
Happy New Year CQN'rs

Yesterday showed us a different interpretation of the "Big C."
Instead of Fargo's controversy it now stands for "CHARACTER"
It has been shown in abundance in the last few weeks and will contribute to building a real team spirit which will see us through to a treble winning season.

Hello again,
In the sixties and seventies there used to be big bold lettering over the entrance to the away turnstiles at Swinecastle which read,BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS.I could not help but laugh, remembering this yesterday, after they invited us to their new years party and we left with the points.

Hmmm...very interesting. Go to the evening times' match report....click on the picture of Pearson .....the bigger pic comes up and it reveals......
... that the linesman had flagged for PEARSON as offside!!
Nothwithstanding other arguments, I saw Maloney as being off. Pearson was never off. But this picture clearly shows the flag up as Pearson is hitting the post.
Just when I was defending the officials as well.....:(
-
Thanks for the link Weeron but looking at it closely the ball seems to have come off the post and be heading towards Maloney, so it may not be as you interpret.
The laws of the game are clear anyway in that NEITHER Maloney nor Pearson were offside.
-
BigJoe....I think Kojo is saying what a great player Petrov is. There, I've cracked the code...::))
-
An interesting month ahead.
Stan injured, bobo on ANC duty and McManus with a suspension coming up.
Looks like we will be getting keano just at the right time.
-
i dont think yesterdays win meant much to BBJ what do yous think?
-
FenCelt...even if the ball was coming off the post, Maloney had not yet touched it. Also, the flag is well up, so that action must have begun a few seconds earlier. My point still stands...:)
I think Maloney WAS off....
-
It would be interesting to see the point at which the flag was raised. A post earlier today went through the laws which appeared to say that Maloney was on as it was a new phase of play when Pearson shot.
Anyway, all a bit esoteric and irrelevant as we won!! Only useful if you're in the fortunate position of knowing any Hearts fans who are claiming they were robbed>
-
Supercelt-might be wrong but I have a wee sneaking suspicion that chap is happy to be a Tim.
-
Weeron/Fencelt I posted this extract from the FIFA guidance on offside earlier. Pearson ws clearly onside as he had not yet entered the box when Naka shot and there were two defenders and a goalkeeper inside the box. An offside against Pearson is Wrong. If the offside was against Maloney as I suspect it was it is also wrong as you can see below. The linesman might well have signalled a player in an offside position but this was wrong. The Referee is the man charged with the final word and he got it wrong. FIFA instructions are clear in this scenario. Officials must WAIT and see what happens if the ball is played to a player in an onside position who has a teammate in an offise position. When Pearson played the ball this is a new phase of play and Maloney was onside. The simplest thing to do is ask what the decision would have been if Maloney had not been in an offside position when the shot came in. The decision is the same irrespective of what preceded it.
He would not be penalised for being in
an offside position in the fi rst phase since he was not involved in active
play.

-
First time poster, long time lurker!
The offside or not controversy. Second phase play didn't come into it.
Look at the linesman's flag after it was raised to signal offside. The linesman's next action is an indication of where in the field of play the 'offside' occurred. Held horizontally indicates in the middle area across the field of play, raised higher indicates further across the field, while the flag pointing towards the ground indicates closer to the linesman himself. Reviewing the video tape shows the linesman indicating the offside decision was in respect of Pearson rather than Maloney.
-
118th? Yes! Get in there!
-
Billc, with that level of analysis you are very welcome.
-
billc
Looks a pretty wishy washy signal but if it was Pearson then that is still wrong as there were two defenders in the box when the shot was struck and Pearson was outside. Not even close and with the help of the penalty box line to indicate position that decision was shocking.
-
Supercelt
If you also watch the reaction from the dugout for the winner you will see the unbridled joy from WGS and the substitutes. Great to see.
-
Andycol, agree entirely that the decision was wrong irrespective of whether it involved Pearson or Maloney.
The position of the linesman's flag is an indication to the referee of where in the linesman's view the offside occurred - it simply helped clarify that the linesman's mistake related to Pearson rather than any interpretation of 'second' phase play.

Scotsport really is an awful programme and I've used the link to let them know this.
From a neutral point of view (which thankfully I don't have!) they should have been giving us at least 20 minutes of highlights from Tynecastle as it was 1st v 2nd serving up a cracking game of Scottish football. What we got was barely 5 minutes and an excuse to give Bill Leckie another chance to have a go at Neil Lennon.

What we got was barely 5 minutes and an excuse to give Bill Leckie another chance to have a go at Neil Lennon.
-
Bill Leckie is a mentalist. And he's never forgiven Lennon for having the audacity to bleach his hair.

Just posted about meeting Jackie Mac on Shrewsbury's High Street, but it appears to have disappeared into the ether.
Anyhoos, is anyone else watching MOTD and finding Boumsong's defending hilarious? At fault for both Boro goals. At the first I'm sure he was fixing his socks as Boro broke upfield. Was it £9m ???
-
Hi Guys,
Just watched the Shaun disallowed goal on ch67 again, here's my take on it with time reference for others to check out for themselves.
Time on windows media player 27mins 03sec (approx) is a replay of "the goal" from a different angle. When Naka has his shot Shaun is on the left, around the corner of the 18 yard box, in an offside position (defo) however, he should not be given as offside as he is not "interfering with the play" as they say. So technically he is in an offside position but factually he isn't interfering with that passage of play. The goal was good and should have stood. Pearos' rebounded off the post shot was legitimately collected up by Shaun and neatly tucked away from an onside position.
Arguments?

sorry Shauns on the right (Doh!)

Baba, spot on!
Now that just leaves a question about a penalty, or was it two?

to get the perfect balance in a team you need to look at all the charecteristics of the individuals, their perception ,flair delivery surroundings just as much as the character themselves.
When matching a wine pretty much the same applies.
Fish are usually delicate and demand equal partners the more expensive the better a la Naka.
You always have exceptions to the rule say the oily ones like tuna where a pinot noir can take the field or in the wines case fine red burgandy who can envelop all the ocean a la keano
it was a bad attemp by me to make a food joke in the first place- apologies- and a determined attemt to turn it back to football- apologies Paul.

I know this is pedantic but....
When did Maloney become onside again? He was off, tho not interfering when the shot went in. Unless he then got another defender in front of him....he was then gaining an advantage from having been in an offside position.
What does gaining an advantage by being in that position mean?
The International Football Association Board defines it as
- playing a ball that rebounds off a post or the crossbar after having been in an offside position, or
- playing a ball that rebounds off an opponent after having been in an offside position.
Or so it seems to me. I'm waiting for the inevitable enlightenment that only this blog can bring.......:)

I am certain that the problem with C67 is fixable- pretty sure it is a license conflict too. The error message told me that much. The point I am making is that I am getting 1000 times the support on CQN than from Celtic FC PLC.
Unsupported C67 is not ready for Prime Time……PERIOD.
If we are gearing up for world wide distribution via this channel – if this is the cornerstone of the strategy. Then, we better get it right. Fix it before we move forward. I rely don't want to hear others making excuses for the poor service. Low headcount, under funded, gifted amateurs, good hearted souls, bypass the process and ask for X ‘he rocks’ or salt is the earth etc. Frankly my dears I don't give a damn. This attitude perpetuates the amateurism, enables it. This attitude does no one any favours.
I expect a professional service commensurate with the fee paid. My agenda is only to help Celtic FC understand their process weaknesses so they can bolster and correct.
If I implemented this portal I would expect to be fired and I would imagine that I would struggle to get a top tier job anywhere for a long time. If we outsourced. Who was responsible for customer communication re the impact? Where was the change strategy? If by introducing this license model where was the explanation that you would be restricted to a single IP address? Choose your primary account with care as you will only be able to access from one location……..shocking….shocking…..shocking.
Did either of you catch the avalanche of similar experiences after my postings……is that ok?
Of course I am breaking my Cardinal rule when approaching an issue- which is never criticizing the incumbents without understanding the scope, goals and objectives of the project.
So as a professional I will reserve my opinion. However as a customer I feel abandoned and unvalued.
Where is the love?
I am not being a pain. I feel Celtic FC PLC should be made aware of this so they can correct and build a revenue stream on this offering.
Weeron
I always catch the games live at SFCSC. C67 is a fallback if not failsafe alternative.

Thanks for asking about the house. Flooded twice this week - less than a foot in the basement both times. Looks like it is not the last - weather is terrible. They have just issued a ‘State Of Emergency’. It is really just an inconvenience at this point, no structural damage. However some people about 30 mile to the North are in real trouble and many may loose there homes.
Paul I think I have your email. I would like to drive this home with Celtic. I am doing this for them, not me. I can cancel and move on. I don’t want to see that multiplied across the globe due to CFC PLC being unable to bridge the customer expectation gap. How are we gearing up for international support? How many bi-lingual Japanese and Chinese resources have we hired for the help desk?
Gavil Guy
I have got two hot and one cold air fan running in the basement and the window is open. I figure I need a 12 hours without rain to get a head. It is still bleeding in, about two buckets and hour or so. Not enough for the pump to catch. My bro is here so we put a rubble drain in the back yard. Slowed things considerably.
We conferenced in my other bro who is an engineer and he looked at the things through a webcam. I like technology when it enables.

Weeron,
Shaun was offside but not intrefering with play when Naka played the ball through for Pearson to make the play (first phase). Shaun had returned to an onside position before Pearson struck the ball which rebounded off the post (second phase). He was onside for the second phase and so the goal was onside. The linesman had already made his mistake - he judged Pearson to be in an offside position when Naka played the original pass.
-
super, apologies, it worked second time.............

Paul can I post this:
interesting thoughts from the Times on the main events at the game-
Sadly, too much of the frame-by-frame inspection by the interested parties will detract from what was a captivating occasion. While Hearts may appeal on behalf of Fyssas, there is little doubt that Maloney was in a goalscoring opportunity — how else can you define a one-against-one with Craig Gordon if Fyssas does not make his slide tackle that does not get the ball? Given Hartley’s senseless kick on Ross Wallace when the ball was not even in the vicinity, or Neilson’s first-half retaliation on Stilian Petrov, going down the road of appeal could backfire as Hearts have found to their cost before with the SFA. Hearts fans have complained that referees are against their team, yet television also showed that Iain Brines, the referee, missed a chance to award Celtic a penalty when Pressley clipped Maloney’s leg and the striker also had a goal ruled off for a d ebatable offside decision.

BillC...
when and how did SM return to an onside position. he was off....then gained the advantage when the ball came off the post and/or keeper. There can't be a second phase unless he had been back in a position where there were 2 defenders between him and the goal.
-
37+ Hours into the window. Who have we signed apart from Keano? Time is moving along....
-
Weeron,
You don't require any defenders between you and the goal line providing you are not in front of the ball when Pearson shoots. Shaun was behind Pearson & the ball when he struck the ball (second phase) - Shaun was therefore onside.
-
Weeron,
FIFA rules state:
A player is in an offside position if:
he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.
The important point is that Shaun was not nearer to the goal-line than the ball when the ball was played by Pearson
-
BillC...I understand the importance of being behind the ball. It wasn't...isn't clear that he becomes 'on' when Pearson plays the ball. However, we have beaten this to death.
I'd have given the goal...::))

Paul, fellow tims,
I was quite amused over the last couple of days with some of the posts regarding the support or lack of, some of home crowd at recent matches, on this site of which may I add that I believe is a credit to you Paul.
The irony was that the people who posted their ire before the match was finished, was , that is the people who I would expect to be leaving Celtic Park with 10 mins to go before a game has been decided.
Big hand to all the celts that were still in the ground at the final whistle.
Well done Celtic I personally would have have moaned after the match if we had lost ....but we didnn't

Okay, just read San_frans posting about Channel67 and he has confirmed it is an IP address issue.
So it looks like I'm, going to have to cancel my subscription and then re-subscribe from my home PC. Assuming that there will be a cost in time and money to do this, does that not make it an exercise in fustration?

I am able to access the site from both my home PCs, Laptop and desktop tower.
I was under the impression that the license was based on an unique Mac id for each individual PC and is restricted to that particular PC for the license duration. I think the license is allocated on a 24 hour basis, although that might only be enforced when a live match is involved. They did have issues in the past with multiple logons which is why the system was introduced.
Maybe it would be worth an email to John Cole asking him to explain how the licencing application is applied? I am sure he will be only too keen to avoid the negative press the system is receiving on here and no doubt other sites.
PS Just read your last post. I hope all turns out for the best.

From the Ch67 FAQs:
Will I be able to watch the match on a computer other than the one from which I have registered?
Yes, but you are only allowed to use one connection at a time. Simultaneous logons from different computers can result in suspension of your account with no possibility of a refund.
-
Gavil Guy
I saw that. But I am not logged on anywhere else. I powered down my office 12/29 when i left for the loing weekend.
Maybe I have been suspended? I can't imagine that either. ince I only tried this last night and I have been powered down at work for days. Unless some one has stolen my id and password I don't think that is the answer either.
Thanks for looking into it though.

SanFran....and all other West coasters ...Hope you get through the bad weather relatively unscathed. Looks mental out there...
Thanks for the exchange of views on Ch67. I wrote before how pleased I was with the service. And then suddenly no more for my Mac OSX because of the new Winsows Media Player they are using. I am confused by this because if it ain't broke etc...Why can they not offer it on one of their other streams??
I do recall a problem on Ch 67 maybe three months ago. John Cole was getting very angry with someone logging on using someone elses password. Another occasion he implied somone was trying to break the security code...I cannot help thinking that this may have something to do with current problems....
Hopefully a bit of CQN lobbying might get things resolved.....It should be done so fast..
As you stated earlier SanFran...Its called Taking Care Of Business....Vital for any aspirations of global commercial success.

Hello fellow Celts, pjbhoynyc, and Sanfran_tic, I think the issue is customer service, you should have a person to address and answer questions ,ive sent 3 emails with 0 responses, when issues have arisen, I think a Tv package will happen in the near future
-
PJBhoynyc it has been pretty bad here but I think it is a lot worse about 40 miles North. There is severe flooding in Napa. Can you buy Wine futures? It looks like they will have lost a lot of vines.
I mopped up another couple of bucket fulls - but nothing to get too concerned about. It has not rained for about 6 hrs. The soil needs some time to drain so I think if it stays dry to the morn we will be making out quite well.

I think you are correct re:the Customer disService at CFC PLC. A big problem IMO too.

All the very best with your flooding problems and may the force be with you.
I won't mention clugging or a certain wee nyaff.
Speaking as a C67 subscriber from its first inception, the Tic Manure game in Seattle.
Yes it is very amateurish and I have cancelled many times but keep returning, incidently the Hertz game was the best coverage I have had, only two small buffering moments and almost all the game at a Streaming 492Kb.
Through all of my cancellations never did I receive an explanation from C67,only once a smartass comment from John Cole on air, whom I do enjoy listening to.
It is not a Licensing problem as the License allows you to watch from whatever Machine yo wish to user be it an office PC or a Laptop in an airport lounge or a PC at your friend's place.
The Licence resticts you to a single usage only, ie one PC at a time.
Log on to Another PC at the same desk at the same time and your licence expires from one and goes to the other.
IP addresses or not relevant
You have one licence at any IP address at one given time.
I am a Tim and it is bloody annoying when stuck in the boondocks of Tropical Australia and am unable to watch the game.
Yes, I know bandwidth plays a part, but I never have access to less than 256 Kbps.
It is amateurish and annoying,
much like a certain wee nyaff at Tynecastle.

An SFA spokesman said: "It will be the usual process for incidents not seen by the match referee, which are deemed to be significant.
"If the matter is taken forward, copies of the match footage will be obtained from Setanta and sent to the review panel.
"If the members of the panel do consider the incidents serious enough, the issue will be dealt with by the disciplinary committee."
Can we assume this includes the "offside" goal and the missed penalty. I don't think so.
Or maybe they were not deemed significant.
-
Tom64 - hope everything works out OK. Why not go to Casualty instead of sitting at home worrying?
-
This whining by hearts in the press is really becoming tedious. Rix does himself no favours with ludicrous comments such as the suggestion they were comfortable at 2-1. Careful selection of the red card incident as key in turning the decision while ignoring a valid goal disallowed and two penalty claims, one stonewaller the other a probable, is revisionism that will do them no favours in the long run. Better to focus on why they went out of the game. I understand Real Radio last night chose to focus on a red card for McManus for celebrating for his first goal and thus removing him from the field before scoring the winner. Like many others on CQN I prefer to ignore this bilge and protest by non participation in the farce.I am becoming irritated by all this but I do have the consolation of seeing how much it is hurting. If we had failed to win no doubt we could have pointed to these three incidents and others such as Neilsens escape after a clear boot at Petrov in the first half as "key" decisions which cost us. Would take a bet however that a much less sympathetic response would be forthcoming from the media. "They are all paranoid you know".
-
Apologies if this has already been covered but, with regard to the use of TV evidence, imo,it should only be used when EVERY game is filmed, otherwise some players will get away with equally bad offences as those punished by the recourse to video footage.
-
-
Johnnyquest - that's not realistic. To take your arguement a stage further does it mean that if a thug is caught on CCTV attacking me in Newcastle he should not be prosecuted on this evidence because they don't have similar cameras in Motherwell?
Hartley and NL were both in the wrong and left themselves open to the action that will follow.
I personnally think that Lennon is a little unfortunate because the authorities will feel it necessary to even up things. Had the Hartley incident not occured I'm not sure as much fuss would have been made over the Lennon incident.
-
Now that the euphoria of Sunday is dying down it made me reflect on how thin the margin between success and failure.
We have a 7 point lead over Hearts and a 17 point lead over Rangers (who in my view will catch Hearts and take second spot)
But for 4 late goals in 3 matches (Naka, Mick2 and Hunfermline penalty) we would be 1 point behind Hearts and only 10 ahead of Rangers.
The message is focus must be maintained and the defensive errors rectified. We must stop giving away cheap goals.
The league is ours to lose now as it was last season. let's not repeat the mistake.
-
Frank from Bedlington
At the risk of being howled down.
Lennon only did what footballers do off the ball.
He was letting Pressley know that he was there and didn't like what Pressley had been doing throwing his weight around.
The wee nyaff will be dealt with by his peers next time around, providing they can catch him off camera.
Lennon's clug used to be known as professional fouling.
The wee nyaff's open kick at Wallace was never known as anything but pique, and he will be punished.
Difference between pro fouling and pique, ask Bertie Auld who as a small ball player never had a fit of pique, but had a long, long career.

Paranoia
I'll give you paranoia
The SFA are keen to clamp down on crowd trouble at matches and the Tynecastle club will now be sweating over the arrival of the referee's report at Hampden.
The spokesman added: "Any action depends on the content of the referee's report.
"If police consider the incident serious enough they will notify the referee who, in turn, will notify the SFA."
The nub is "Any action depends on the content of the referee's report.
Ferrets

We should not be surprised at the media reporting of Sunday's game.
We got possibly two decisions in our favour.I think the referee was inconsistent with the sending off.
He also missed Lennon sweeping Presley's legs.
The officials missed Neilson kicking Petrov,Hartley kicking Wallace, two good penalty claims,a good disallowed goal and Webster faking injury to get BBJ sent of.
All in all a poor day for the referee and officials.
I don't wish to appear paranoid but surely the Neilson incident should be looked at again.
One thing I wouldn't like to see is action taken against Hartley or Lennon for gestures to the crowd.
If the fans give out stick to the players they can hardly run to the police if they get some back.
I appreciate that most of the abuse Lennon gets is of a sectarian nature but by reacting it gives the authorities the chance to haul Lennon over the coals.

I would like to know why the Hearts fan who tried to jump over the dugout was ejected from the stadium.
Surely the police should have questioned him with the possibility of charges being brought.
On the subject of fans on the pitch.
Does anyone remember the UEFA cup tie at Ewood Park when the nutter with the Rangers top ran the lenth of the pitch towards us.
He was challanging the whole Celtic end until he got to the six yard box and realised that he wasn't going to be caught by the stewards. He had to slow down to let the stewards catch him before he made it to the Celtic fans.
Happy days.
-
I don't know.
Ask the Polis, maybe it was in their report.
And the Referee didn't tell the SFA.
So the Referee is the Law not the Polis
Ferrets

Ozjohn-I thought the ref was the polis?
The foul by Hartley on Wallace was one of the most cowardly acts I've seen on any football pitch.
One consolation is that Roy K.will no doubt file it away in his memory banks.
Mr Hartley may find Hosea 8:7 instructive,if not reassuring, not that I condone violence.

Donald Findlay is getting a column in the Herald. I checked the date that it was not April 1.
I don't have a problem with Rangers fans with typewriters, so long as they do a professional job. Findlay is unacceptable.

Re rangers fans with typewriters.
Today's Scottish Daily Mail (I know I know)
Peter Jardine wrote this classic
"Sportsmail UNDERSTANDS a herts official wanted action taken against Lennon FOR THE WAY HE CELEBRATED THE LATE WINNER...
It is believed the report from referee Brines fails to highlight anything involving Lennon"
Don't know if this guy is a hun or not but apart from Lennon's soft kick on Presley what else wrong did he do in the game?
The back page has a picture of Lennon shouting, nothing like trying to pin all the blame on Lennon.
As for herts trying to get Fyssas's booking recinded they should take a look at ALL the other incidents their players were involved in.
Looks like the whitewash has started.
Only in this country!!!
-
the media witchhunt against NL has once again gone into overdrive. the bile and hatred towards this guy is nothing short of a national discrace. imagine the same abuse dished out to a black player for the same reasons; death threats, assault, grafitti, sectarian abuse at EVERY ground in scotland. to top it all we have "respected" sic pundits trying very hard to justify this treatment; red hair- aye right. brace yourself Roy- scotland is coming to get you.
-
In a way, you have to commend the media for the spin they've surrounded Sunday's game with. An objective audit of the game's main talking points would, I believe, conclude:
Debatable Decisions AGAINST Hearts:
* booking, rather than red, for Bobo
* red, rather than yellow for Fyssas
* no action taken against Lennon for kick at Pressley
Debatable Decisions AGAINST Celtic
* no action taken against Neilson for assault on Stan
* no action taken against Hartley for assault on Wallace
* no action taken against Webster for "simulation"- trying to get BBJ sent off
* no action taken against vars players for crowding ref and linesman at red card (a la Lennon at Ibrox)
* Celtic goal disallowed for offside
* Celtic denied penalty for foul on Maloney
* Celtic denied penalty for first-half hand-ball.
Out of this, we have the impression of crucial decisions swinging the game Celtic's way. On top of that, various "pundits" are suggesting that Mick's celebrations at the first goal should have seen him sent off!
I hope Celtic publicly counter this impression soon- whilst I agree that the referee was in general poor, to imply that he swung the game Celtic's way is a gross misinterpretation of events.
-
ItaliaBhoy
"a gross misinterpretation of events" but not a surprising misinterpretation of events. An objective audit of the events would be well beyond the capabilities of the media in this country.
Dont be surprised by Lenny and Hartley getting the same punishment either.
-
The dust has settled and we have our breath back. Was`nt it riveting stuff and as WGS says we can now analyse;
First goal; Shocking mistake by Wallace and he knew it,if he could use his right foot no problem. It was a decent break by Hearts but the ball in should have been comfortably dealt with.
Wallace will not do. Have we anything better? I would maybe give Thommo a chance at left back, has not got great pace, but has a presance, can pass and can tackle 5 times better than Wallace, and has to be better in the air!!!.
If not get Camera back in.
2nd goal Mcmanus for a big lad is garbage in the air yes , yes i know he scored with his head but my god he loses far to many headers in dangerous positions(same at Inverness) can`t afford it in scottish football. If he could sort that (and i`m not sure he can) he would do me.
We showed great determination on Sunday but are covering over cracks.
Hartson and Maloney are not my idea of a front two, Maloney is definately not a striker.
But we have to be happy don`t we, its great to be a tim!!
-
what about the other Daryl!
Darly King of the evening times is in my opinion the biggest hun in the media in scotland he's only on the radio when the huns are playing he's on the radio snide phone in's from time to time being a hun fan not a so called neutral journalist.
-
Now i know what the fabled big"C" stands for "CELTIC".
-
Not sure if Thommo has the temperament to be a defender- also he has a tendency to dwell on the ball, meaning he loses possession cheaply. That's bad enough in midfield but potentially fatal in defence.
Think Camara is our best LB option at the moment.
-
'The Way Jock Brown sees it' - Episode 13
- Lennon took a HACK at Pressley!
- Hartley INVOLVED with Wallace!

I hope wallace does not suffer too long at full back, how many times did he pass back into the path of an oncoming forward. Tommo is not the answer at full back as he will probably wander into centre mid as he does wherever he plays!

-
Just got back from Spain so missed the match this weekend.
I have a questions for us all....
Was Maloney fouled when Fyssi..Fiski...Fikkissiikkis (whatever his name is) was sent off?
If so I'm concerned. I never want to be a "diving" team.
There have been a few comments this season about Maloney in particular, that he likes to go down too easily.
What do you all think?
-
Maloney didn't take a dive he had to jump the tackle and landed going forward which made him hit the ground, if he hadn't he would be carried off ith a broken leg.
The attempted tackle warranted a yellow but if he had made contact then a straight red would have been warranted.
Suspect the appeal will be upheld and downgraded to a yellow.
-
Maloney went down under contact while running at pace to collect the ball,so I don't think he can be accused of diving. There is some debate as to whether it warranted a straight red,but the Hearts player didn't object too much to the decision, unlike his teammates.
I also thought the basis of their protests was that the red card was unjustified, not that there was any diving. The decision to throw himself into the tackle was the wrong one,as if he'd stayed on his feet he could have dealt with the threat much better.
As far as the second goal is concerned,I thought Artur could have been more decisive.
