Scary defense.

-
Hope big Stan plays well.Model pro-no whingeing from him about being dropped .Far better player than has been made out.
-
OK, what happened? Three “C’mon the hoops” comments instead of the customary "1st?". I suspect a plan has been hatched.
Clean sheet please.
-
Mornin all,

After posting last night that I thought there was no way Varga would play I am retiring to Alpha Centuri IV..
Hope he plays as well as he can..
-
Disappointed Telfer is playing but glad to see Camara back. Interesting centre back pairing, 'V' for victory?
-
Mo stops the ball on the line! Well done Super Mo.
-

2 mins. Camara clears on the line from a header at a corner.

Not really hoos as attacking force yet..
Camara looks out to prove a point 2 good tackles and clearance off the line
-
7 mins. Corrigan hits his own bar with a header.
-
Ch 67 comedy show continues. Pls post if anyone gets their video back.

"good spell by Celtic..." BBC Scotland
-
Varga/Camara started very well - not much from Virgo so far.
-
finally got video on Ch 67.
-
Nice to see O'Dea in the squad; i've always had hopes that he and Cuthburt would make it through for the future.
-
we are beginning to play well as a unit big john doing a shift

C67 - finally got the prompt for my user name, put that in, and have been waiting 10 minutes now for it to verify - mailed John Cole - no response. :(((((
-
16 mins. Goal for Celtic. Zurawski following excellent work by Maloney and Petrov.

-
Zura!!!!!!! 0 -1
Yes, onward and upward,
"a cool finish" BBC Sportsound
-
Started by a good pass from Mighty Mo, then worked with great passing for Zura to clinically finish. Good stuff.
-
Goal Zuraswki!!!
-
c67+ video back - read Casey's post just after goal...
-
Casey/Beattie - how'd you get your video going?
missed the goal - great :(
-
Listening on radio Scotland this guy brown from Kilmarnock cant even stand to say our name, they, they, they.
C'mon CELTIC sicken them all.
-
a few minutes ago John Cole via audio said they were aware of the "acquiring license" problems and that they were "resetting the servers." I just exited the media player, went back to Ch 67 home and starting the process over and this time video came up, no license message. Keep at it, good luck
-
24 mins. Nakamura won a free kick 20 yards out, Maloney shot just wide.
Pace from Zurawski got them forward initially.
-
maloney free kick on edge of box
just past
-
Very nice from Naka, skill and class on the ball. Wins free kick near the D on the left. Maloney steps up and misses by just a yard or so around the post.
-
free kick celtic 20 yards out great work from magic and naka
-
just wide from maloney great effort
-
Thanks Casey - I'm in. Nice free kick by Maloney
-
Telfer v poor header straight to McDonald who is felled in box no penalty - we'd have wanted it!
-
Elbow in the face to Naka. Motherwell losing composure, whinging about this and that.
-
mcdonald goes down in area, dumb and dumber squealing for a pen!
-
Butcher very heated at Motherwell booking - wonder if he was as heated last week?
-
naka and ex hoop mcbride exchange 'words'
-
Had to happen...commentator says 'Vargo' LOL
-
Perhaps I'm projecting my hopes a bit, but it looks like Naka has really come on in terms of imposing himself physically, not afraid to get into the tackle, much more aggressive than the lad we first saw when he arrived.
-
few 'tasty' tackles..
lenny looking ot escape yellow card for kicking ball away
-
great cross from maloney and good defending from well corner celtic
-
34 mins. Varga lost Hamilton forcing Telfer to make a good saving tackle.
-
Vargas first mistake (35 mins) gives Well a chance but good interception from......TELFER ....
-
Zura is playing quite deep, linking midfield to Hartson. It seems to be working so far.
-
Nice cover by Telfer - saved a likely goal
-
36 mins. Varga makes a good tackle on McDonald to make us for his slip.
-
-
38 mins. McDonald turned Telfer inside the box before cutting a ball into the 6 yard box. Cleared by Camara.
-
Hows Virgo doing?
-
1-1 Hamilton screamer
-
More confusion in the back line, but this 'well squad are very poor and cannot take advantage.
-
40 mins. Goal for Motherwell, 1-1.
Wonder shot from Hamilton from outside the box into the top corner.
-
telfer turned iside out by McDonald good clearance from Camara.. all came from a foul on Magic which was not given
-
Good interception by Camara after Telfer allowed his man to get round him on the goal line
-
Goal Hamilton. Unstoppable volley to the top left corner off a good cross.
-
Sounds like Telfer's getting a bit of a roasting from McDonald. Can his luck hold out or should we think about bringing on wilson for the second half?
-
as John Cole said, a bit of luck there, a once and a lifetime strike for Hamilton.
-
Virgo playing well
1 1
Hamilton with a goal he ll probably never score again
-
42 mins. Hartson header saved on the line after Telfer cross.
-
one - one
"Goal of the season, no doubt....." BBC Sportsound.
It won't make any difference at the end, we will win.
-
1.1 great goal from Hamilton Jock Brown over the moon
-
Argggh!! Hartson header saved on the line. A little more punch and its in the back of the net.
-
According to Joke Broon Mark McGhee (in stand) sold Virgo to his Aberdeen pal Strachan - I thought slavery was outlawed?
-
1-1. Contender for goal of the season - can't defend against that.
We're sitting back too much.
-
good play from celtic and header from hartson good save from keeper
-
Joke Broon (at a Celtic (not) offside replay)) '' It just shows how difficult it is to be a linesman''
Hate-Lee - ''Not really Joke - all you need to do is look along the line!''
WE pay for THESE clowns!!
-
Half time, Motherwell 1 – 1 Celtic.
Celtic never looked like losing a goal, but there was not much the defence could do about it.
Need to make more chances in the second half.
-
magic called offside when clearly 3 yards on and in decent position
-
half time even enough game..
lots of indivdual battles in game..
on plus side Virgo settled in quite well hard to see why he has not had chance so far this season
-
That's half.
After starting well, Celtic get disjointed, give the ball up easily, make a very poor opposing team look half-decent.
As for the back for, the Virgo/Vargo partnership looks okay [he says warily]. They seem to be keeping shape, but a bit too tentative, slow. Mo making decent runs, nothing too much to slag him off, but Telfer has been very poor. Clearly the weak link is over on the right.
-
Cant blame defence for the goal.Overall defence playing well.Impressed with Virgo.Maloney a bit out of sorts.Should win.
-
Virgo and Varga playing well as is Mo, Telfer made one good clearance but has also made mistakes, including one that led up to their equaliser, not that anyone could have done anything about it. Give us an early goal, Celts, in the second half, they`ll have the impetus with that goal.
-
HT M'Well 1-1 Celtic
Missed most of the 1st half due to C67 technical problems. From what I saw, which was after we scored, we were on the back foot for most of the half. Seemed like we sat back after we scored. The defense did OK against a weak forward line - no real chance for the goal but the cross did come in from Telfer's area. It will be good to see Wilson settle in to that spot.
Naka and Petrov not commanding the middle. Maloney doing well. Didn't see Hartson or Magic create much although Magic is all over the place and working his back-side off. Virgo playing well.
This is going to be another hard fought win if we get it. Not a day for silky football.
-
Sir Paul,
Motherwell's goal in the Bizarro Region....
Hamilton's shot had eyes!
Forget, Lucky..... it was Black MAGIC at work!
Adam......Ya done good, kid....
I noted 3.....count 'em ....great interceptions...... clearing likely peril.......
Keep it goin', lad!
Mo..... Ya done GREEEEEEEEEEAT,kid!
Mo is playing a good solid game.
Keep it goin'!
All in all, the defense after a few shaky moments is playing very well.
Lennon and Stan.......
Too subdued..... Need more get up and go....
From BOTH!
Maloney.........
My opinion....... wasted on the Right....
Get back to the LEFT,kid.
Hail! Hail!
Kojo.
-
Joke Broon thinks Celtics goal was offside, he clearly speaks with his heart. (and speaks out of somewhere else)
-
Our midfield is poor. Lennon useless. No pace, giving the ball away and getting caught in no mans land putting pressure on back four.
V2 doing OK but Varga still cannot head the ball to a Celtic player.Old failing.Camara doing well. Should switch Naka and shaun to regular side next half.
Upfront OK, hard work and movement.Need to press Well now..
-
What can we do about Joke Broon.Even big Hateley has to rein him in at times.
-
Quick corner for Celtic as the match resumes.
-
Second half,
I would replqce Telfer by Wison and switch Naka + Shaun.
Pearson must get a run at them at some point.
C'mon the Celtic.
-
free kick given agaisnt Mo. An absolute dive, no contact at all.
-
50 mins. Celtic are looking a bit hungrier this half. Nothing in the Motherwell box yet.
-
More messy, ugly football all around. Celtic must control the ball more, make m'well chase more. Giving it up too easily, not acceptable.
-
The Celtic need to switch Maloney and Naka...
They both are out of their element.
Must have Maloney back on the LEFT.
-
better passing just now. i just think that if Celtic can control the ball, move it around the park more clinically, this very rash m'well squad will make mistakes, leave themselves exposed.
-
Motherwell make penalty claim, another absolute dive.
-
Naka looks done - apparently had a heavy cold all week. Need to replace him with McGeady or Pearson
-
mcgeady coming on
-
58 mins. I cannot actually remember either goalkeeper making a save. We need to get inside their box, Motherwell are defending well up the field.
Maloney is coming on soon.
-
still giving up the ball too much in mdfield Stan, Naka and Maloney all a bit out of sorts, Lennon not helping either
Dreadful game
-
Concur about Naka, just not there right now
-
looks like McGeady getting ready
-
Anyone else having problems with the SETANTA broadcast breaking up??
-
61 mins. Nakamura substituted for McGeady. Hmm.
-
McGeady looking set to come on.
-
Naka given a rest.
-
mncelt - your wish
-
Petrov is pushing on but we are lacking a change of pace &/or guile - inspiration needed - Estadio?
-
Motherwell don't look as wound up as usual - this will be a real waste if Celtic don't pick up the points today. Come on lads, a bit more!
-
2-1 McGeady - deflected
-
Aiden!!!!!!!!!
Goal M'well 1 Celtic 2
-
70 mins. WOnder goal by McGeady
Motherwell 1 - 2 Celtic.
Slight deflection.
-
YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
goalllllllllllllllll
mcgeady
-
McGeady 2-1 - just mention Estadio !!
-
Virgo good interception & pass leading up to goal
-
Thank you Aiden, helped with a deflection, but that's the kind of thing it is going to take to win a game like this, a bit of pressure and luck
-
72 ins. McDonald puts a header 4 inches wide of Boruc's post.
-
GOAL Aiden 2-1
-
Should have been 2-2, break down Celtic's right, McDonald missed from 6 yards
-
WHAT was Varga doing swiping at the ball near the center circle on M'well's break??!!
-
We NEED to take Telfer OFF if we want to keep out lead....
Get Wilson on , please....
-
Pearo on for Magic - looked plopped. Petrov pushing up - Peasro into central midfield. 14 to go.
CMON THE HOOPS!!
-
Old Well bhoy Pearson on for Magic, I hope he can stuff it right up, get this game finished off.
-
Virgo - good defending and a shot in a million - he found Hamiltons jewels with his boot...
-
Celtic seem to be sitting in with a 4-5-1 ... hoping for a knock on from Hartson & a break from Maloney, McGeady or Petrov
Ref just bottled a second yellow for Foran
-
chants of "Pearo's a prova"
Is it now official club policy to issue tickets to morons.
I do not care what anybody says the away suuport can be an embarassment at times.
-
Virgo has made goal scorer Jim Hamilton a falsetto. Hilarious, I could see that again and again.
-
Virgo is doing fine - looks commanding
-
Pearson looks very composed on the ball - nice combination with his energy
-
84 mins. Goal for Hartson.
Motherwell 1 -3 Celtic.
Great play by McGeady on the left.
-
MeGeady brilliance - Hartson stuffs it RU motherwell 3-1 - how many predicted that? Lots for a change. WOnder goal aside Celtic have been excellent today in a tough game.
-
3-1 Hartson, McGeady wizardry on the wing
-
1 3
Harston great run from AIden
10 pts clear
-
Now THAT's a Celtic goal!
Great stuff wee Aiden.
-
More McGeady brilliance shoots - off the bar!
-
87 mins. McGeady hit the bar after great play.
-
OOhhhh!!!
The bar denies McGeady a deserved second goal
-
88 mins. Telfer blocked a shot 2 yards from the Celtic goal.
-
McGeady now playing like wot's his name from Barca, just did the fullback & hit the bar
Virgo just further settled his account with Hamilton on the touchline - no card (ref consistent at least)
Good block by Telfer at back post
-
Frank... i know its not a great idea or a sensible topic...buy arent they taken the p*sh
-
Defence a shambles today again.
-
McGeady the reason why we won this match. We were offering nothing till he come on. Man of the match, top class Aiden!!
-
Would like to see McGeady get a run of games to see if this display is more than just good fortune, but I would suppose that would mean sacrificing Zura, which I'm no keen on at the moment. His passing was poor today, but I think he is an important link up front.
-
Full time:
Motherwell 1-3 Celtic
10 points clear. Get your party booked for late April.
-
thats it
great 3 points
-
adam virgo - man of the match, no arguaments
-
Thanks for the updates guys. Stuck at work, and cannot get access to a radio.
Is it just me or does McGeady always seem to respond after a wee rest?
-
Kojo - your boy done good today.
Clear green water between us and the rest of the also rans now.
-
HUGE RESULT........
-
Hard fought, deserved victory, 10 points clear.
That said, disappointed with the passing, lack of control. Celtic should always be outclassing a side like this with skill and pace.
Okay, nae more negative, better times to come.
-
Paul 67,
I'm relieved, happy, and most thankful for this wonderful CQN coverage of our beloved bhoys!
A most important milestone on the road to the title!
Come on the CELTIC!
Hail! Hail!
-
Great result
3 good points when all our castle greyskull friends expected us to drop the points.
10 points clear
c'mon the hoops
-
Well done Virga and Vargo...oops!
-
Virgo is my MOTM.
Great work by McGeady.
Good substitution by WGS as it turned out.
Nakamura looked a bit off. Injured?
3 points when we really needed it.
10 points clear.
The future it bright it's green and white!
-
superb result!
thoroughly deserved considering we were kicked all over the park.
what i did notice was when we had runners in pearo and aiden on motherwell struggled.
wee shaun couln't do it himself when stan looked like he couldn't run the length of himself.
ADAM VIRGO was oustanding today!
A brillant defensive performance.
dig in the tackle, good in the air and he never gives up.
Man of the Match by a mile!
10 clear? Oh aye!!!

Player ratings;-
Boruc 7 - perhaps eased out when Camara cleared off line
Telfer 4 - far too many balls headed/passed to Well
Virgo 8 - did what was needed well. Setanta MOM
Varga 9 - amazed me - 2 mistakes whole game
Camara 8 - very little joy for Well down the right today
Maloney 7 - some good touches
Naka 5 - looked jaded lost too many balls in midfield
Lennon 5 - looked too slow. some interceptions but not enough. See pearsons efforts.
Petrov 4 - not at the races today or for the past few weeks. For a 'top' player he hasn't impressed recently
Magic 7 - well taken goal. tired later on
BBJ 8 - worked his ass off and took goal well
Pearson 7 - made midfield look much more solid
McGeady 7 - great going forward but still limited in defence
Strachan 9 - right subs at right time once again
TBwhoisnowgoingtocookteaanddrinkaloadofbeerinthedoingofitwhataGREATday
-
Very satisfying 3 points. Kojo - your boy done good. Looked very composed, broke from the back for Aiden's goal and played a great pass to Aiden - the rest was down to Aiden.
Great finish by BBJ for the 3rd after 'Jinkyesque' play by Aiden - can't pay him a higher compliment than that.
More of a workmanlike performance today but nice to see WGS able to make changes from the bench and win us games.
Hail Hail - 10 points clear.
-
intelligent interview from mr virgo
well done adam thanks for helping us get the points
-
just a thought.
only in scotland can you get booze for winning man of the match!!!
Well done Adam!

Aiden made a great difference, well done, son, Adam Virgo got Hateleys MOM, couldn`t much fault that, hopefully thatll give him the boost to go on and prove Kojo right (again!)Well done Glasgow Celtic, oh and ha ha to that pr*ck Keevins. At half time he said Motherwell would score first and go on to win the game. Wrong, Hugh, why don`t you take up knitting. 10 clear, nothing taken for granted but lookin good. Just waiting for Kirsty to come over.Hail Hail

Setanta just analysed first half pen claim - showed conclusively that Stan touched the ball - no pen.
-
Under potentially grave defensive circumstances, a hard fought 3 points. Its games like this that make title winning teams.
Glad Adam Virgo is proving a few people wrong. I was never one of the ones who leapt to an early conclusion, but I will admit that the longer he went without playing, the more I did think it. Glad to say that from these early days it looks like that nagging voice in my mind will be proved wrong.
I think that the thing that probably impacts upon our midfield's sometime inability to contribute to the attack is found in our lack of defensive confidence. I know that some are having mild reservations about Gary Caldwell, but could it be too much to hope for that the sum of Wilson, Caldwell, Virgo and hopefully A.N. Other, could be worth more than their individual parts?
It could well be that the mere fact that the communication between our defence could eliminate a lot of the problems. We all know that sometimes it seems like Balde is playing with cotton wool in his ears, and Du Wei was an unfortunate victim of it. For the record, I really feel for him. Had this been a few years ago, I'll bet he'd have been kept and he'd have made the grade.
I can foresee Virgo and Caldwell developing quite a quick understanding and potentially playing quite well together. One thing about Wilson is that he is positionally sound from what I've seen, so I don't think we'd see the centre backs pulled out of position to cover too often, which seems to be a major problem with the current defence.
Gordon, a left back please, and don't spare the horses!
-
WGS saying Naka has had a virus and was struggling this week- but too important to leave out
-
Great stuff. Virgo Outstanding - well done son.
Only downside was the more than expected abuse dished out to Lennon and McGeady.
Also, anyone pick up on the vile racist shouts at Camara around the 55th min when he was taking a throw in? Front page news tomorrow anyone? Nah didn't think so.
-
Sir Paul and ALL OF MY FRIENDS....

Thought it was quiet. Posting in the void earlier
Excellent first half Adam Virgo. Good distribution from the back. Zurawski's movement up front excellent as was his goal but regrettably a wonder strike from Hamilton gives Motherwell a chance.
2:57 PM
Superb pass from Virgo exquisite finish from Mc Geady. Brave decisions from Gordon Strachan Plaudits all round
3:30 PM
Adam Virgo Man of the Match 'Nuff said.
4:05 PM
-
Excellent result, the defensive performance was the best it has been for sometime.
Well done Stan Varga & Adam Virgo, you have both answered your critics in the best possible way (including me).
Discybhoy
-
Virgo was outstanding. Looked full of confidence, won everything, saved our skin in the box, set up Mcgeady for the goal with a beautiful diagonal pass...deserved man of the match. He did not look like a player playing his 2nd full 1st team game in a makeshift back four! Good to see him commanding the players around him too. Bit of a revelation today.
-
our defence done well today considering our midfield was out of sorts.
i agree with most wee shaun should have been back over on the left with naka on the right.
i was not happy at petrov's performance today. yes he set up the 1st goal but there was a lack of energy and commitment especially in the 2nd half.
petrov and lennon were being run over in midfield until PACE entered the game and we picked up every 2nd ball after that.
food for thought the next time we're in this kind of battle.
we used pearo and aiden the same way we used maloney and beattie earlier in the season.
bring them on when the opposition are tired.
It worked!
Emjay
-
Remember when we were 5 points behind and people wanted to sack Gordon Strachan?
Remember when we were 7 points ahead and people wanted to sack Gordon Strachan?
Remember when we were 10 points ahead and people wanted to ??Gordon Strachan?
-
Terrific display by the team in the second half and fantastic individual skills by Aiden & Shaun.BBJ you worked your socks off today and a good killer goal.
Finally. and most important, great tactical awareness by WGS and his coaches today, and the subs were absolutely spot on.Selection and timing was perfect.
This was a great win for us today.
-
Well done Adam Virgo Easily MOM
Aideninho turned the game and thankfully Pearo forced the motherwell midfield back as they were starting to get a bit on top of ours for a while.
Overall 10 points clear what can you say.
Fair play to them
Relatively happy baldy today
-
Commentator the ManU/L'Pool game just now said that the word is that Roy Keane's injury will keep him out for 2 months. Two months?! Has anyone heard anything about this. I thought it was just a wee training ground knock.
-
i think magic is exactly what we need up front. the more he plays the better he'll get.
if wee shaun had been on the left and naka on the right they would have found magic a lot more today.
he makes runs in the mould of henrik which stretches defences and brings space for us to attack.
hearts play hibs next week so here's hoping for a hibs win.
we could go further clear with a win against the arabs.

Most will decide on whether WGS is worth continuing with and is truly worthy at the end of the season and see where we are then.
As yet he has won nothing and sorry I still remember too much what he did or didn't do in the past. At Cov, Saints and with us only a few weeks ago. One swallow does not a summer make.
I hate this 'If you don't support the manager then you are not really a Celtic Fan nonsense that you often pull up.'
WGS's real test will be in the Champions League/Europe - if we get there and we're not there yet!
-
For the first time in ages I ended up watching the match without worrying about the defence.Maybe we picked the wrong scapegoat between Balde/Varga.
BBJ-great game today.Good defensively, held the ball up well, intelligent through balls played. He knows when to release a ball.
If anyone is still unsatisfied with WGS then I think they should have a long hard look at themselves.
-
Casey
Strachan said he should be back next week - it's tabloid rubbish!
Virgo didn't put a foot wrong today, hope that will quite some of the doubters.
Maloney is always willing to run his socks off even when things aren't happening for him; Naka wasn't his usual self today. We never looked like finding many killer balls but maybe that's the movement up front.
Inspirational substitution from Strachan bringing on McGeady - his direct running was exactly what was needed... if you can't pass through them run through them.
Lennon and Petrov yet again didn't seem to have great games - hardly involved but Petrov as ever showing flashes of his ability.
-
WGS comment on playing Naka on the left and Shaun on the right was that he wanted to deal with the threat from Hammill. Thought occurs that Celtic rarely have to make special provision of such a magnitude to deal with the opposing left back. Maybe we should/are thinking of signing him.
