Sorry Travelbhoy, mind you could change in the next 10 minutes posted first yesterday and ended up about 8th.
-
May all who stand in the broomloan on saturday do us proud and sing the team onto victory - good luck lads. I'm not overly confident about the game, but that's normally a sign that we win. Let us not forget that despite whatever problems we face defensively, their problems (in all respects) are significantly worse.
Eck must stay!
-
It is a nice little dilemma for WGS on sunday, does he play RK or NL or both, what do others think, I would go for a midfield of Naka RK SP and Shaun.
-
Evil,
Gotcha, I spotted you. I'll say hello next time mate. Cap and a pair of oh so trendy converse!
Hail Hail
-
tricky one Giz_A.I might play NL purely for nuisance value to wind up the Orcs but would certainly keep Keano in there.Who to drop?Absolutely no idea-thats what the wee man gets paid for.I'd be happy with a draw on Sunday.
-
I'd have preferred TFOD to win last night against the Dons. I often feel that if we get them on a bad run they'll do their utmost to end it againsat us. However if they'd won last night then it may have given them a bit of false hope and papered over the cracks as it were.
In saying that I'm never disappointed when they lose and with a cushion as large as the one we have we surely can't lose the league....can we??
I think the Jambos will fade with or without their own internal troubles although i'd love to see them pip TFOD into second.
With a bit of luck Hibs will keep 3rd and TFOD will have to win the Champs League to qualify for it next year!!
-
I'd definitely keep Keano in for the triip to the death star but I don't think Lennon will get back in even though Petrov has been out of sorts recently.
If Shaun Maloney plays as well as he has been will win, no doubt about it.The wee man did not put one foot wrong last night, at all!
Let's keep the orcs where they belong 4th!

Last night the most important thing was to get the 3 pts.The ref who i have seen a few times this season is one of a few bad officials and denied us a stone waller, big DD was manhandled a few times but play just went on, the assistant refs last night were also very flag happy. Keano got stuck in as did Stan but Telfer again never puts a tackle in and he wouldnt just clear his lines cause he wanted to take 1,2,3,4 touches before hitting it off a falkirk player.
Anyway hope you all enjoy the game as i will be on a flight to london as it kicks off, made a baws up of the dates and cant get out of it.
So all the BHOYS who are going to the greyskull give them as much pelters as you can.

the converse are de rigeur for me marty.......shame they look so rubbish when still brand new by the way... gimme a week and they'll look like the rest of my runners...I'll be in sunday for the Rankers game...Gimme a yell.
Keanos' passing out of midfield was fantastic at times, he always found the outball. Big Dion did very well, I just read the rekud let's not have that debate again) and keevins is saying big Dion was as immobile as BBJ.....um...I thought Big Dion for a 157 year old did well chasing and harrying and winning and awful lot of ball in mid air.
I did think Petrov looked off the pace at times, but I've got to say Keano and Dion virtually bullied/cajoled a performance out of the players last night. Even Bobo did his best to keep calm and make up for the pre-ANC errors until the team switched off late on.
-
Posted again - new thread put up whilst I was typing!
Didn't get to the game last night (much to the delight of my mate who got my seat!) and hoped to get some radio coverage before playing. Instead, I had the choice of Pittodrie or Radio Clyde studio. I took the Clyde option to reduce the stress levels and at half time was left with the opinion we had been crap. I tuned back in at 10:30 to hear Guidi slating us some more.
I have to say, having read the Herald, Times, Guardian, BBC and CQN reports, it seems a bit more positive than I had expected. Sounds like a loss of pace/drive nearly cost us in the last 10 minutes, but at least the first 80 were a bit more positive than of late.
Can't say I'm particularly confident for Sunday as it will be the battle of the dodgy defences, but I'm certainly feeling a bit more positive after the results of Saturday and Wednesday. Wins for Celtic, Hearts, Hibs and Killie would be perfect!
Ps. Can someone state what the Ewan Cameron thing was about? I don't listen to it so not sure what he was ranting about. Ta!
-
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the Ewan Cameron thing was about?
Don't generally listen to that drivel.
-
Sunday's game is a 6 pointer. Lose and the spread with the infidel is 15 points. Win and we clear them by 21 points.
Thye pressure is all on them and we need to use sports psychology to the hilt for this game. Imagine they lose in their own midden. What size of fan demonstration will occur outside afterwards? pretty significant I would say.
Paul, would you agree this is one of the biggest games in years for RFC?
I say play both Keane and Lennon for this game, not either/or.
Gordon think through this one very carefully. Apply psychology to the hilt.
And do remind them they are Fourth in the SPL and at the end we are 21 points clear.
-
IMO RK will wind them up as much as NL does, also RK and SP up against Barry the Bam and Boab Malcolm is a no contest. The only player that Celtic need to be concerned about is Buffel the rest are mince.
I have to admit though feel more nervous about this game than the last one, bad as rangers are still tough being at their midden and a draw would not be the end of the world, although giving them a good gubbing really could kill any little bit of confidence they have going into the Villareal and Hibs games which would be no bad thing.
I did say a while back that I thought Hibs would finish second and stick by that with the other east coast team imploding it can only be to Hibs benefit.
-
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the Ewan Cameron thing was about?
Don't generally listen to that drivel.

Sorry to drag everyone back to this but just had to get this off my chest.
cultsbhoy
You and some of your compadres really are being juvenile.
You praise yourselves for being brave enough to state that you are not satisfied by the product being offered by the team and absolutely unhappy with the manager yet when anyone takes you to task with a contrary view you resort to name calling such as “CQN Loyal CQN Brownies” and the like because someone has challenged you .
Since you have to do this so often does it not occur to you that your view of the situation is actually a minority view and quite possibly wrong?
If you really stopped to consider you might realise that the great majority who post on here are actually fair minded people who may well have their own doubts regarding the team’s progress and the manager’s ability but feel that at a time of considerable change where we are 10 points ahead of our nearest challengers the man and the situation warrant just a bit of support. Those people I suspect are averse naturally to those who are entirely negative and whose pre –determined dislike of the man appointed as manager consistently dampens the atmosphere in an unconstructive manner.
Have your opinions but do we have to have constant negative vibes every post you make?
-
As far as I can see Gordon has 2 choices on Sunday. Start with the same team but with BBJ in for Dublin (no criticism of Dion who played well on his debut but BBJ seems to have a habit of scoring against Rangers) or go for something like a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 and hit them on the break. Worked for Hibs after all.
Whatever happens I hope wee Shaun starts. As far as I'm concerned he's our player of the season so far. Yet again last night he was always on the move, always looking for the ball, always trying to create space or play the killer pass and when Mark Wilson got caught out occasionally it was inevitably Shaun that was mopping up behind him.
Perhaps we might even get a penalty on Sunday to make up for all these stonewallers we've had turned down in recent months. After all these decisions always even themselves out over a season.
Don't they?
-
I have not finger nails left! They all got chewed off in the last ten minutes of last night's match.
I am not going to judge Dublin on one showing, however the boy did alright. He is certainly faster than BBJ and I liked how he kept trying to pressure the keeper. All the early indications is that he is a like for like replacement for BBJ and that is okay in my book. Plus he is a 'Talker'. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. We have yet to see.
Telfer - you need to pass the ball out of defence quicker. We got caught twice (that I saw) in possession because the lines wernay cleared quickly enough. Apart from that you did fine.
Oh, I have a wee song for some of the fans, sung to the tune 'We're Celtic Supporters' -
We're eighty minute supporters
Faithfull until ten to
Over and Over
We'll leave at ten to.
Same old rubbish from Tom64, but then woditcha expect?....noel90?
-
Although last night was generally satisfying, I was disappointed by the abuse that Magic and, to a lesser extent, Naka got.
Has the media succeeded in turning us against our own players? Magic I thought was v unlucky not to score, and although Naka was in and out of the game, he was still our most creative player (alongside Shaun). Naka is also a prime example of a player who plays the game "the Glasgow Celtic way"- with fine skill, audacity, invention, and craft.
Unfortunately there is a large element of fans who seem duty-bound to regurgitate the nonsense spewed by Keevins and his ilk, and to find fault with particualr players.
Apart from this not being justified on footballing grounds, this is not the Celtic support I remember, and is directly responsible for the decline in atmosphere at CP these days.
Who wants to hear (ill-informed)criticism and moaning all the time?
-
I thought Telfer actually had a very solid game last night. I have been a critic of his but credit where it's due, he has a very good first touch and although he made a couple of mistakes he doesn't panic and can always be seen weighing up his options.
Or in other words his mistakes are considered ones!
Nevertheless I'd swap Wilson and Telfer over on Sunday. Wilson is too inexperienced to play on the 'wrong' side of the defence and struggled to tackle with his left when Falkirk pushed down the wings. Telfer has played LB before.
Credit to Naka for always showing and wanting involved. It's amazing how people view a game, I've read a couple of posts that he was a potential man of the match. I thought he looked tired, but there you are. I also thought Keane's drive was great to watch but he was actually quite wasteful with the final pass. That's just through lack of match practice though, I genuinely think he's a great shout to score on Sunday.
Haven't had a ticket in the ballot for Ibrox since 1998 but it always stirs the emotions when you can hear the bhoys in the Broamloan through the telly. Always mightily impressive as I'm convinced the microphones are positioned somewhere near the back of the Copland Road.
Sing up guys, there are 7,000 of you in body, hundreds of thousands right there with you in spirit.
-
good performance for 80 minutes last nite, defence looked ok up till Falkirk scored and then the nerves set in. dublin's performance was a pleasant surprise but i'd like to see hartson back on sunday, and i'm not sure about playing telfer, especially if this means playing wilson out of position. round pegs for round holes etc. even so we should still have enough 2 win at the death star with the shambles that they are in

Final result fine last night, but the ease with which Falkirk went through us in the last 10 minutes does not bode well. Defensively we appear to be getting worse as the season goes on.
Anyway, looks like the rest of the season is about enjoyment........starting on Sunday.
Anyone have a link to a good picture of Roy the Bhoy#2 (he might be good, but he'll never beat Mr Aitken) celebrating his goal ? Wonderful, wonderful moment.

Mark Guidi's aftermatch comment last night with regard to Dione Dublin "never being a Celtic centre forward",a classic example of mind already made up, before the guy has kicked a ball.
-

Does Guidi post on this site then?
Mind already made up seems to be very popular these days.

Paul you should release the Fan Fan story today as it will (hopefully) be plagiarised by the red tops tomorrow, usually a higher circulation during the working week!
Keane must start, if only for the tunnel intimidation (see P Viera)
Telfer & Dublin to be rested: -
Boruc
Wilson Mick Bobo Momo
Nak Stan Keano Shaun
Magic BBJ
PS I clicked the http://www.money4yourstory.co.uk add, quite apt don’t you think!?!?
-
Under no circumstances can we bring back Camara - ever!
Same back four as last night. Lennon in for Naka or Shaun, BBJ for Ainsley.
Keep the ball and frustrate them.
-
Paul67,
The fanfan story needs told !
There cannot be a better time to release it. David Murray will be banging the drums again once Villareal put Rangers to the sword in the CL. So it definitely needs to be released well before then. I.e NOW Its been a while since CQN has had a scoop. I presume that you are worried about a source, but the blog is in danger of becoming celticslownews if its not published soon or is it no longer news worthy ?
Hail Hail
-
Paul and CQNers,
You find me a very happy man today. I was not enamored at the signing of Roy Keane, as most of you will be aware. After last night, I would be the first to shake his hand. I think he had us playing the best football I have seen at Parkhead for many a long day (or night). He sttrolled through the game in my opinion. He offered a lot more than Neil Lennon and, to me, Petrov played his best game for months. The amount of ground he covered all night was amazing. Telfer, too, can be pleased with his contribution. I thought he provided Zurawski with plenty of great service. In fact, Magic was the only one I was disappointed with (and he was pulled and hauled all over the shop). We should have won by the proverbial barrel load (and while I never ever expect anything against Rangers, here's hoping the manager sticks with the same team at Ibrox, apart from maybe Dublin, who was excellent , making way for John Hartson).
I have a warm glow about me which has been missing for months. The manager is right to be well pleased. I certainly was.
-
Apologies in advance cause this is a bit nerdy... but I was annoyed last night that I had to sit at the pc to hear the game (albeit I accept the orcs/shaggers clash was a marginally better ratings puller for the bbc) so I thought I'd investigate what I could do from my chipped Xbox. A script called xbbc provides the option to stream bbc Real Audio from the comfort of the sofa on the telly - which works a treat. However, it needs some tinkering in order to get the Sportsound match options which are available on their website (rather than just whatever feature game BBC chose to broadcast nationally - usually the same as the 810 MW option). Confused yet? I've got some mates helping, so if we've fudded about with it correctly it should be possible to listen to any game from the Xbox that BBC Scotland are broadcasting. Sorry, I know this is majorly geeky and I know that it's only once in a blue (I mean green) moon that our game isn't the 'feature' match online anyway - but it's annoying all the same when it does happen.
Diet.
PS. When was the last time an OFG wasn't 'the worlds most important fixture... since the last OFG?' I can see us losing but they are an irrelevance this season and we should all remember that.
-
CQN Etiquette
CQN is a haven for Celtic supporters, much heralded by all who have discovered it. It is the brainchild of one Paul67 and while Paul regulates to some degree this is thankfully minimal as it is often said to be self-policing. As such perhaps these rules as suggested by various contributors over the months and years could be adopted in the mission statement....
Don’t agree with any other poster, you become part of their ‘mob’.
Don’t disagree with any other poster, you are forming your own mob.
Don’t agree with Paul, you’re automatically subscribed to the ‘CQN loyal’.
Don’t disagree with Paul, his mob will get you.
Don’t say anything positive about Celtic, you become an ‘apologist’.
Don’t say anything negative about Celtic, you become a ‘malcontent’ or even a ‘greenhun’.
Some other sub-rules:
Don’t post too often, don’t mention religion, don’t get involved in the infantile ‘first post’, don’t swear, don’t read tabloids or listen to the radio, don’t use long words, don’t admit to playing golf or you are a ‘neo-mason’, don’t make your post too long, don’t use bold, don’t use italics, don’t use acronyms, and don’t ever, ever, EVER mention amortisation.
If you follow these rules you’ll be fine but you’ll find that few posters do. Sometimes CQN can become a very heated place. Deep divisions form and folk get pretty mad. However these is a shining light in this Celtic haven. A courtesy is extended I think by all posters 100% of the time to one particular contributor, EdwardUrsus....
....a Rangers supporter!
I put this motion to the CQN community.
All in favour say “You’re fourth in the SPL!”
-
I'd rather be playing in an altogether different league from the also-ran(ger)s.
BUT, since we are STUCK (at the moment)in the SPL ,
WE must ALWAYS endeavour to PUT THE HUN to the SWORD!
Only in this respect are they relevant this season: FOURTH IS TOO GOOD FOR THEM!
GET INTO THEM BHOYS!
COME ON THE CELTIC!
-
Glad to read a bit more positivity (!!!???) on here today.
DD and BBJ for Sunday?????????. Pump the high ball in all afternoon and watch them scatter their defence like skittles............ ;o) Unfortunately, the Greek thug's not playing as I was hoping to see him take his customary early bath.
Don't know if it's true, but read (I know, I know. I was at work, the "thing" was lying on a table......... sack cloth and ashes awaits. ) anyhoo, apparently the boys in blue have asked that the Jungle Bhoys band of revelars be moved away from their present position next to the visiting crowd.
And another thing.......... please keep an eye on the ads, as when you refresh they sometimes change allowing more revenue for YKW.............

Here's one for all you wanna-be Celtic Managers out there. Had this scenario happen to me last night after eating too much cheese before bed.
It's the 60th minute of the Old Firm game on Sun. Rangers went in at half time 2 to the good (a 15th minute goal by Buffell, then a 43rd minute second from a corner, poorly defended). 5 mins into the second half and Rangers score a third.
Celtic are playing poorly, Rangers playing better than expected.
Hearts won 2-0 the day earlier to close the gap to 7 points.
What would you do as Celtic Manager?
a) Throw caution to the wind and attempt all out attack, playing 4 or 5 up front.
b) Do nothing, keep out shape and see if Celtic can improve things in the remaining half hour.
c) Shut up shop, pack the defence, for fear of a rout.
Me? I went for C), as a potential gubbing could affect our confidence and de-rail us during the final run-in. I'd be interested to read what the others on here would do in the same situation.
-
I fancy going to the u19's game tomorrow, Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie. Can someone give rough directions from A80 and how much do these games cost to get in?

Throw caution to the wind. Go with BBJ Magic and Dion up front.
Not gonna happen though.
Paul,
Would it be possible to have an unedited version of the Fanfan story by email on request. Would there be much difference between the 2 versions.
Would it be a case of the names have been changed to protect the guilty.
-
Here's a little something I cooked up for my Rangers supporting colleague. God love him he's had a hard week of it.
Bears and sheeps!
-
Paul67,
I think you had better review the Fan Fan story. Make up lies, exaggerate, stretch the truth, elongate the facts - but for god sake dont put out a 2 liner. There will be a bottle neck of bodies at the mouth of the clyde if this story is not out the top drawer.
No pressure. Take your time :-)
-
Mikeybhoy,
as having managed Celtic in a previous life I can categorically assure you that one of the first clauses in your contract is that you are not permitted to eat blue cheese at any time.
You forgot option D. Bring Gromit on in the hoops who secures an injury time hattrick.
Hail Hail
-
I reckon the FanFan story is that Rangers signed him on the basis of his agent claiming (fibbing) that he was about to sign for Celtic on 20K a week.
Except the names will be changed to protect the innocent :)
-
Paul67,
I am with St-Gris on this one!

Or it could be, as someone else on here has suggested, that Chairman Dave signed the wrong player by mistake (similar surnames).
I alway like the story about the guy who conned Souness by claiming to be the brother of George Weah (might even have been his brother actually, thinking about it), and Souness played him in a premiership game for 20 mins as sub, having never seen him play before, before having to haul him off.
-
At last WGS has seen sense, went further up in my estimation and hopefully will apply the " only as good as your last game " scenario to his selections. Wee bit jittery the last 10 mins but much better display of energy, quick passing throughout and keeping a high line. The only change for Sunday should be BBJ. I don't think it's too early in saying Shaun will be player of the Year. Keano is a stick on for the rest of the season surely? This next game could be our first clean sheet for quite a while.
-
MikeyBhoy - Were in good ghords name are you buying your cheese?
Not even in my deepest darkest nightmares have I contemplated such a scenario, but now you put it into my head I'll have to go on a sabbatical to get over it.
Just remember my friend when these dark thoughts enter your head just assure yourself with this thought..

From A Newcastle site.
Graeme Souness was taken in by somebody who claimed to be the cousin of George Weah. Ali Dia will go down in footballing folklore as the biggest bluff ever. Souness had plenty of opportunities to see that he’d been conned, after all he’d watched him train. The Scot actually put Ali Dia on the bench and brought him on before realising his mistake, substituting the substitute. He’d been had.
-
Interesting article, Paul...
And yet we debate whether Neil Lennon or Roy Keane should be picked in the side...
For any club in the land it should be a simple no-brainer.
They both play the same position. Sadly, that should mean that NL now takes a bit part role for Celtic for the rest of the season (except for the reasonably likely injuries to RK)

I think Mikeybhoy is on the right track with the wrong name story on FanFan.

He basically called PL a liar and he didn't believe a word that came out of his mouth. I think he'd taken things personally when Strachan made a fool of him at the Roy Keane signing Press conference.
He was also suggesting the club weren't interested in extending Stan's contract, and were merely paying lip service to it in the press.
-

Totally agree. If a player is in form, then he should be first choice for the side. End of story.

Keano has to remain in the first team with Neil on the bench until Naka has had enough of a kicking(no doubt they'll have no choice as they won't be able to keep up with his footwork)BBJ to start upfront with DD on the bench.
I would have started Marshall in goal last night and given Boruc a rest and something to think about ahead of Sunday.
Pearo should also get the nod at LB.

Anyone else notice that the real radio apology was to the board and pl but not the fans who had been misled. I was very distressed I was.
-
Paul
Any chance that when you publish the Fan Fan story you also put up the now infamous Darryl Broadfoot "McLeish deals first pyschological blow to Strachan by snapping up Fan Fan from under the noses of Celtic" article (or at least a link).
I'm sure someone will be able to supply it and it would be a good example of how the media can put a certain spin on a story.
-
Hearing rumours that Freddy Kruger either fell on his sword or got the tin tack this afternoon.
I'd be surprised given the upcoming matches.
-
Cheers OttoKaiser.
Didn't realise he was the one WGS got ripped into!
-
I'm not surprised about the Cameron thing, he has no time for Celtic at all and is prone to talking total mince. With a car that has only FM radio, I used to listen to his show on way home from work in the days when the Radio Scotland show was only on Am, and almost killed a few dozen people several times by almost going off the road when using one leg to try and kick the radio in rage at the anti-Celt bile that spouted forth. Never forget a couple of years ago, when he was ranting at a call-in Tim about how our club (then enjoying the great record breaking winning run, walking away with league and on route to the quarter finals of the Uefa vs Villareal) was in disarray because all our best players like Thommo and Chris (God, I miss him) were leaving because we were downsizing like the sith forces of Govan and couldn't afford to hold onto them.
Cue the pair of them signing contracts the next day and hundreds of fans on the phone to wet themselves at his idiocy. I also remember him predicting 3-0 humpings by Barca before both legs of that Uefa tie, more in hope than expectation methinks.
What a diddy...
-
Its not gone away. Last night at the final whistle. The Coca cola can story was given top billing on BBC. As I posted earlier if Rangers had won they´d still be interviewing Bob Malcolm to get the nations psyche meister opinion on how the season is going to pan out!
-
Freddy Kruger?
-
For Sunday I would play 4-3-1-2
This might come as a shock to those who know how much I like Naka but I would have him on the bench.
I would play 3 in the midfield to allow both fullbacks to (at appropriate times) to go forward – both Wilson and Pearson have the `engines’ to do this and I would allow Petrov and Keane to go forward rarely together (again at appropriate times).
I’d give Maloney a free role but ask him to play mostly in the `hole` but also support the ball going into the channels. This is a hard shift so may look to replace him with Naka at a latter stage in the game.

If we close down Buffel and Burke then their front players will go nowhere in the game.

Don't you see the similarity of complexion with Mr Kruger and the current manager at Snake Mountain?

Blow for Strachan as Fanfan heads for Rangers
DARRYL BROADFOOT and MARK WILSON July 05 2005
RANGERS will today negotiate the signing of José-Karl Pierre-Fanfan, the Paris Saint-Germain central defender, from under the nose of their Old Firm rivals, Celtic.
That will add to the frustration experienced by the Parkhead club in the transfer market yesterday, when they saw negotiations stall over a £2m deal for Maciej Zurawski and their chances of landing Craig Bellamy from Newcastle United recede.
Martin Bain, the Rangers chief executive, will meet Pierre-Fanfan and his agent in the French capital this afternoon to finalise the details of a three-year contract. The 29-year-old signed a similar deal with PSG last season but a loophole in the contract has enabled Rangers to sign him for free. PSG had initially wanted £2.5m for him.
The Herald understands Gordon Strachan was offered the player weeks before Rangers for around £800,000 but Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, was unable to commit, having been locked in negotiations with Zurawski, while finalising the year-long loan of Jérémie Aliadière.
Pierre-Fanfan's representatives grew tired of Celtic's procrastination and informed Rangers of the player's availability via fax. It is the first psychological blow struck by Alex McLeish against Strachan, his former Aberdeen team-mate and now Old Firm adversary.
Pierre-Fanfan has a rich reputation in the French first division and had also attracted interest from West Ham United and Portsmouth.
Since no fee will be attached, the player will benefit from a considerable hike in wages at Ibrox, to about £20,000 per week.
He may yet form a defensive partnership with Sotirios Kyrgiakos next season. The Greek has threatened to take Panathinaikos to court to terminate his contract with the club and enable him to sign for anyone else on a Bosman.
Rangers have become increasingly frustrated by the impasse but David Murray, the Rangers chairman, last night reassured supporters that his promise of four new players would be delivered by the beginning of the season.
"I want the fans to know we are working around the clock and travelling throughout Europe to try to sign the players we want," said Murray. "The targets are of a high quality and we hope to have two within the next 10 days. I told the fans I would get them four players and I intend keeping my promise."
Brahim Hemdani, the former Marseille captain, was the first high-profile capture to arrive on a Bosman, followed swiftly by the arrival of Ian Murray from Hibernian. Agreement with Pierre-Fanfan has been reached in principle and Kyrgiakos would complete the quartet of bargain acquisitions.
The Pierre-Fanfan deal could even be be completed today which would enable him to undergo a swift medical before joining his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp in Toronto.
Pierre-Fanfan is already at an advanced stage of preparation for the French season, having taken part in PSG's preparations in Biarritz.
Born in Saint Pol sur Mer, Pierre-Fanfan first came to prominence at his local side US Dunkerque. His sturdy performances were coveted by Lens and he played a significant part of their surprise championship success in 1998 after signing for £5m. He was a pillar of the team during their surge to the UEFA Cup semi-final in season 1999-2000 and was subsequently signed by AS Monaco in 2001.
Pierre-Fanfan's career in the principality was ruined by a serious knee injury and compounded by ankle and thigh problems. Unable to secure a regular starting place, he was sent on a season-long loan to PSG two years ago and after making an immediate impact signed a three-year contract last July.
Meanwhile, Wisla Krakow confirmed yesterday that Lawwell had met with Zdzisaw Kapka, the Wisla vice-president, and Grzegorz Mielcarski, their sporting director, for more than three hours. He left Poland, though, without concluding a deal and Wisla have set a deadline of the end of this week for Celtic to agree to their terms.
It is understood that the number of instalments in which the £2m fee would be paid remains a sticking point, while the situation has been further complicated by the emergence of Besiktas as a potential option for Zurawski. Reports from Turkey, which Wisla have not confirmed, claim the Istanbul club are prepared to outstrip Celtic by offering £2.4m for the striker, with a contract worth £18,000 per week after tax.
"At 11am, negotiations started with Celtic over the transfer of Zurawski," said Jerzy Jurczynski, a Wisla spokesman, last night. "The discussions lasted a few hours but were then stopped so our club could put forward a detailed financial proposal of what we want from the transfer.
"The Celtic representative said he would have to get agreement from the club's board. He returned to Glasgow and Wisla Krakow are now awaiting their response. Celtic have until the end of the week. We had hoped to complete the transfer today but, unfortunately, it was not possible."
Zurawski last week selected Celtic as his preferred choice ahead of Trabzonspor but the the saga has now dragged on for 14 days since the player visited Parkhead for 10 hours of talks.
Strachan, who has promoted Tommy Burns to first-team coach, may also be facing frustration over Bellamy as Everton are understood to be closing in on a £6m deal to secure the player's services.
Sources on Tyneside claim the Welsh striker held informal talks with David Moyes, the Everton manager, on Sunday night and that further discussions will be held in the next few days.
Newcastle United yesterday gave Bellamy an extra week's leave from pre-season training to avoid a tense reunion with Graeme Souness and they hope that will prove enough time for him to find a new club.
Ulrik Laursen, meanwhile, has become the latest player to leave Celtic after completing a £50,000 move back to Denmark with OB Odense.
-
£50k for Ulrik Laursen!
-
God bless ye celticbhoy, ye're a star. Like a good wine it just gets better with age. The bias just comes shining through.
Further frustration as Zurawski negotiations stall - Ha Ha!
-
Can't get the picture out of my head now of McLeish in the dugout with the dennis the menace t-shirt, hat and glove with knives for fingernails.
-
1 2 Freddie's coming for you.
Never did get over that!
-
Just announced on the trannie that Bid Feck is to part company with Ipox at the end of the season.

Bring on the "Dream Team" of wee Durranty and Bomber

Pablophanque,
If you are coming from the Glasgow area, head along the M8 towards Edinburgh, go past Coatbridge and the EuroCentre turn-offs, and take the Newhouse turn-off (the one after Chapelhall).
The turn-offs are well signposted. It's the NEWHOUSE one you want.
At the bottom of the slip road, turn LEFT towards Chapelhall and Airdrie. It's a straight road from there. Around a mile and a half. You go through Chapelhall, and the Excelsior Stadium is on the outskirts of Airdrie, on your right-hand side.
Ye cannae miss it. Honest.
Ignore the "Away Fans" sign and go on a couple of hundred yards, where you turn right into the car park for the main stand.
A wee steward there usually collects £2 for using the car park. Ach, Airdrie need the cash. It's £2 to get in. Not sure if you can still get in for free with your season ticket, but it's worth a try.
Try to get a team sheet off one of the stewards in the stand. It greatly aids the identification of the participants.
Pie and Bovril's not bad either.
Due to work commitments, I may only be able to stay for the first half, so please let us all know how we got on.
A lot will depend how many of our top players Willie McStay is allowed to use, as some have been training with the first team.
But we'll win by a couple if our starting line-up is anywhere close to this:
Scott Fox; Paul Caddis, Dean Richardson, Darren O'Dea, Scott Cuthbert; Jim O'Brien, Simon Ferry, Teddy Bjarnason, Ryan Conroy; Diarmuid O'Carroll, Paul McGowan.
Subs: Paul Skinner, Ryan McCafferty, Andy Traub, Mark Miller, Charlie Grant, Paul Cahillane, Graham Carey.
Enjoy!

bored at work and annoyingly distracted by the iminent FanFan story, its getting me guessing...
(apologies to anyone who has already predicted any of the below)
- The Celtic missed out 'story' (His agent conned Rangers big time as MikeyBhoy previously suggested).
- Miss FanFan. Has he had a sex change in the past and this was causing concern with a not very open-minded dressing room. OR The Fanny story (He has no meat and no veg, the PSG fans cut them off)
- The back alley storage scandal (He has been dating Sol Campbell)
- The mistaken identity (DM bought the wrong player as a few posts have guessed)
- The hidden costs (DM now deeply embarasssed and even more skint when they messed up the contract and spend £2.5m instead of the 'Free" transfer)
- The psychological blow to McLeish Story (FanFan has been doing the boss's missus or the boss himself, or both)
- The crim story (FanFan is being charged for something unsavoury)
Oh come on! Hurray up Paul for goodness sake!
-
So its confirmed then, what next...
'Vatican confirm Benedict XVI Catholic'
Seriously, would be an interesting ploy if they tried to launch the 'big announcement' and the manager sacking just to overshadow the Fan Fan story!!!!
-
Mcleish SACKED!
-
It's an old Sicilian message.
It means Luca Brasi, I mean Alex McLeish sleeps with the fishes.
-
Paul Le Guen !!!!!!!!!!
IN THEIR DREAMS !!!
-
LOL!!! Big Feck has been sacked today......... but will leave at the end of the season!!!
What a shambles.
-
If Le Guen goes to Ibrox then Ill eat my hat - only £5 from the Celtic shop.
-
Radio Scotland just conformed Eck going in Summer (says it was all agreed with Murray in December) aye right!
-
Derbyshirebhoy...
Have your opinions but do we have to have constant negative vibes every post you make?
To rephrase - Have your opinions, but don't have them? ;-)
For some the glass is half full, for others it's overflowing, and for some? It's being sneakily drank out of whilst our backs are turned. From time to time we all could do with taking a step back and trying to be a little more balanced. I don't think it helps when posts like this are aimed at individuals though - It tends to lead more to the feelings that there are differing "camps". My opinion is that there are no camps here, just Celtic fans who all have ideas on the best way forward for our club.
My guess is that CQN is the best place to open opinions to our peers. We can see what others think and take on board others counter-points. Without a place to vent your spleen what do you do? Live life in quiet desperation?
I know the point you are trying to make, but I think that balance and objectivity are far more important than being positive or negative. If someone is unremittingly unpleasant, it's a different kettle of fish, but being negative is at least a position that someone can be engaged in dialogue with. It's like telling someone who is sad to cheer up. It doesn't work because it's not offering an alternative. Engaging a debate at least offers a viable alternative to the persons opinion.
I don't agree with some of the views put forth, and I'll argue vigorously, but only in a quest to learn, and I wouldn't change the wide gamut of views on here. From super positive to super negative, it's all good.
Sorry, I'll stop stirring now. ;-D

A lame duck manager in charge of Rangers for Sunday's game - definitely a first - the kind of first they are welcome to. What kind of motivation will they have between now and the end of the season playing for a manager who they know is working his notice? None I would suggest. A pretty unbelievably incompetent decision which leaves 2cnd place a straight forward battle between Hearts and Hibs.
BTW - it will almost certainly bring about a new thread any second now....
-
Murray saying (once again) that the new manager will have millions to spend on high profile Eurpean players - not Bosmans - da ja vu all over again!
-
Well I say sacked, but it's a bit half hearted, I mean DIGNIFIED!
-
Paul67,
stop press stop press ... hold the fan fan story. And I signed the etims petition as well 9,321 sigantures I got in 4.2 minutes !!!
-
calderwood all the way....
-
-
I thought Murray didn't sack managers or some guff along those lines.
I find the timing of the sacking astonishing. rangers still have European spots to fight for, this is a massive boost to both Hibs and Hearts, tfod could now go into freefall. I also think it now makes us favourites for the game at the weekend.
-
Damn!
This is huge boost to TFOD for Sunday's game.
I suppose the good news is that he isn't going immediately.
-
Just when I thought everything was going well....
They sack McLeish!!!!!
It's just not fair
Paul, Please say it isn't so :-)
-
I think the appeasement session to the Rangers supporters factions indicated that as soon as Rangers are no longer in the CL then Eck will be moved on quickly. Even if Eck negotiates Rangers to get passed VR (as the mans luck never ceases to amaze me) the emergency funds will be made available to the new man. The so called announcement is useless as the y cannot buy anyone until June anyway and their will be a WC going on. So get the new guy in now to start doing the ground work.
I reckon as I said before it will be a french coach. Second guess is that Soueness will come in and put up his own money. The man needs the attention his career is finished. DM owes him a few favours but this time Souness will be investing in the club putting in his own money.
If it´s JC, Xavier start buying Celtic shares NOW !!!!!
-
The timing could head off the Car Park Loyal at the pass! What do they shout about when we do them on SUN? Who do they blame when Villa escort them out of Europe? Nobody to shout at and Murray promising the earth in Summer, the mint is playing a delaying game.
-
Poor Eck - Most people that get sacked go out and try and get another job, he's got to stay at Castle Grayskull !
Dignity ?
-
There is no way P.LeG. would come to Ibrox -
I've been following Fr football for 20 odd years now and,no,
it won't happen
Take it from me the word 'immiscible' comes into mind here.
On a side note, I think that the reputation of P.LeG.
is maybe a wee bit exagereated.
He inherited a VGood team and had absolute MegaBucks to spend
(in the SPL he will have Megapennies, if that...).
I think that somebody safe like Burley, Butcher, Souness, ... might get a run.

if you go to Airdrieon Friday, under 19's or Monday, under 21's you can get a team sheet at the main entrance free of charge
