* repost from previous blog *
Kojo, given our defensive frailties, I think your criticism of Neil Lennon's lack of contribution to the Celtic attack is misplaced. He would be amongst the first names on my team sheet for Sunday. Certainly, Roy Keane would play too, pushing forward through the middle - with Stan P covering the right. Naka has to make do (initially) with a place on the bench. We need power in the middle on Sunday, those 3, with big Bobo back, gives us that. It even provides a bit of steel to the right side, where your newest favourite, Paul T., patrols in his "improved out of recognition" form.
Am I correct in understanding that the Celtic games you see are mostly confined to TV? If so, I think that would explain your apparent lack of appreciation of the efforts and sheer scale of the task which confronts the players - don't believe for one minute that action only happens where the camera is pointing - why, that's almost as bad as "reading last months newspapers" and forming your opinion on that!
By the way, I'm not a Paul T. detractor - I do think he owes us a vast improvement (but worry that even a 100 percent of nothing is still nothing). In terms of Neil Lennon, he is Celtic's captain today, and I'll cheer like mad when he leads the bhoys out at Ibrox as captain on Sunday - we owe HIM that.

I think the broadcast was indicative of the situation at Rangers, although I suspect that the news was a move to simply reduce pressure on himself. In the end, David Murray will hold back Rangers - and all becuase of his own vanity.
He almost bankrupted the club to make the fans love him, and now he offers up the manager to take some heat off of himself.
If there is no announcement shortly after the Valencia game, then we'll see fireworks.
Oh..and there is the small matter of getting the fans on board in time for the Celtic game. Anyone else nervous BTW?

Paul you posted a new thread just after my post which took over a minute to type. *sigh* :P
..............
Rangers 'investment'
With all these rumours circulating that someone is going to inject some life into Rangers, i've been doing some thinking and here is what conclusion i've came up with...
So what? Are we supposed to be scared? We are already far ahead of them on many platforms in the buisiness side of things as well as the playing side. Even if Rangers do get a large sum of money they're still likely to be second fiddle unless there is some extremely shrewd management.
celtic have already started building a squad to tackle all departments. If we have signings like naka, Magic, Boruc ever year coupled with what seems like an endless suply of youth coming through our squad will continue to strengthen greatly.
Rangers youth system is poor and they need just about a completely new team. How big is this investment?
Even if they can afford to get some top players, who will come? It's unlikely they'll be in the champions league next year afterall. Who is to say that they wont waste most of their money on flops like they usually do? Or pay over the odds on a fan fan? Apperently our Scouting system is very good so we are at an advantage there.
Celtic are trying to be forward thinking by having a healthy financial balance for the future. What's going to happen at Rangers? Are they gonna have a loada money pumped in only to get spent on duds to then go back to big debts?
As much as I love watching Rangers squirm, I don't really care if they bounce back. To be honest it's good for Scottish football and it's good for Celtic to have strong competition and it's good for when we try to get TV deals.
All this is unecessary anyway because the chances of them getting a major investor is unlikely and even if they did get one how much are they likely to put in? 10 million? Even if it is, it wont get them very far i doubt.
How many generations was that Paul? ;)

It is no surprise to any of us who live in Scotland that the story has moved from Eck sacked to departure by mutual consent to Eck decided to leave last summer in the space of about 24 hours.
Again where are the journalists willing to ask about the December press conference. "I looked into Alex's eyes and knew he was up for this and that was good enough for me" nonsense. Some of them seem to be too busy reporting that Henrik is not coming back to Celtic. Well hold the back page........
And spikeysAuldMan - well done on the Aiden video in the last thread. I've said it once, I've said it twice, God knows I've said it countless times - This boy is going to be a star and I pray to God it is with Celtic.

Does this mean that Paul Telfer looks good on tv ? I noticed that someone watched the game on tv (think it was Derbyshirebhoy) and agreed with Kojo on his view that Naka, Keane and Telfer were a great threesome. Couldn't see that at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.
So I'll make sure I tape the game on Sunday and see if PT looks the part on the telly

Carfin Harp-
I wasn,t sure about Big Dion.
Hadn,t seen him play that much lately.
I do remember that he was " the next big thing " when ,in 1992, he signed for Manchester United from Cambridge United for a fee of £1,000,000 .United had just won the European Cup Winners Cup and were one of the best teams in Europe at the time.
Within six months he suffered a severe leg break.
When he returned to fitness,he was behind Eric Cantona and a rampant Mark Hughes as they stormed The Premiership .
He moved to Coventry City- for £2,000,000 -double what United had paid for him.
Four years later he went to Aston Villa for a fee of £4.5,000,000.
When his contract ran out he moved to Leicester-as a free agent-within 3 months they made him captain-
Then craig leveine came.
Leicester went into freefall.
Not Dions fault.
He is c h o k i n g to play football.
For us.
Roll on Sunday.
Go on Dion.

Yes,I may well be GARBAGE but the big difference is,I don't play for CELTIC,you do.
STILL TO HEAR FROM ONE SINGLE CELTIC FAN ON HERE OR ON THE TERRACE THAT THINKS YOU ARE EVEN A DECENT SIGNING FOR OUR TEAM.
Washed out, over the hill, english lower division reject.
I don't like saying it but that's what you are.
Yes,you are GARBAGE,not in the past but now in the present day.
You are like a POOH STICK,in the water,
Maybe at the beginning you were one of the first to come from under the bridge first, however you have been in the water too long and making your way down the burn with no one to see you disappear into the distance and you have turned the corner,a few corners.
"That stick was Garbage POOH"
says Piglet with a frown on his face
"Yes,your right Piglet,See if we can find another one that can still float"
Pooh said with a smile on his face.
Piglet looks puzzled and says to Pooh,
"How did we manage to find that OLD stick again,it was a good one YEARS ago when we first found it and played POOH STICKS"
With a small pause for thought,POOH looks down to his friend and says,
"Piglet,Out of the new fresh sticks falling on the ground all around us in this wonderful forest filled with new solid, and some not so new but in good condition ,I don't know how we managed to pick up the OLD one again,it didn't even look good, but though I should give it a try again,as it was a winner once apon a time"
Over hearing this, with a spring in his step,KANGA comes hopping over, and with a raised voice, proclaims,
"Don't listen to him PIGLET"
"POOH,seen an old washed out stick that he got attached to over the years and decided to pick it up and let YOU use it,even though it was no good,he thought you wouldn't mind"
POOH was startled to here KANGA talk like this to PIGLET about himself as he new they were all friends, almost family in a way.
POOH started to say,
"But,But"
KANGA gives POOH a swift slap to the back of the head with his strong tail
POOH
then realised that although KANGA was a bit brash and forward,he was telling the truth.
PIGLET,being a bit simple,looks confused,as he thinks,A stick is a stick,
"Why fight over it,you two?" says PIGLET
KANGA says to PIGLET whilst hopping around him and POOH,getting higher and higher,
"PIGLET,Let me explain it another way to you"
"POOH lets all of us think he is wise and always knows the answers, however",
"POOH finds and OLD stick that is tried and VERY tested,he only wants to use it in his HONEY JAR so he can get to the bottom"
"The Stick probably knew if it doesn't try it's best then it won't be dipped into the HONEY JAR"
"What he doesn't realise PIGLET, is that,if the Stick breaks, which it probably will as it is OLD and starting to breakdown to compost"
"It would have been no good to anyone, then it was a waste of time picking it up again."
"Not everyone notices PIGLET,not everyone chooses to notice"
PIGLET asks KANGA,
"So what's the Moral KANGA?"
Moral? I leave it up to you to figure out.
"Maybe a stick isn't just a stick?"

Embarrassing to say the least ?
I think he's not the greatest either but I see where Gordons coming from on this one. He did enough on his debut to convince me that he can do a job.
We do have a lot of stop gap players in our team. This is true. Whats also true is we cant get the right players at the right price in 7 months of WGS reign. Patience is needed. Every player who dons the hoops should recieve 100% support. You might not like him but for the greater cause your support is given. Let time judge him. Was ok on his debut and I liked when he stepped in when petrov was incensed at an opposition player and referee. He grabbed stan moved him on and told him to FOCUS , most probaly saved Stan a booking.

Time warp Noel? get back in the Tardis and reset the dial to 2006 and come back out,cos if you don't,are you going to change the nappies for half of the first team?
Most would still be just starting Primary school, when Dublin was already playing footie
This is 2006 FOURTEEN YEARS LATER
I have never said he was a bad player in the past,I know he was a great player when I was growing up
But he is 36,nearly 37,
Sad day when CELTIC players have to get motivation classes on the pitch from Dion Dublin,
Clapping their every pass and shouting "Well done"
Is that what CELTIC has come down to?
Roy Keane is however, still a great player,at the top level. We can learn from him,Dublin,NO.
Only a few seasons ago, most players outside the EPL top four wouldn't have got a game for CELTIC.
Now look what we have!
Telfer,Camara,Dublin.
Dublin played a good game but not hard to look a half decent player in the squad we have at present.
I only want the best for CELTIC and realise we have to take a step back to go forward sometimes but DION DUBLIN,come on mate, surely anyone is not trying to state a case for DION DUBLIN.
Live within our means?
It's not that dire at CELTIC,
At least we know that we will have some cash to spent in the summertime cos we aren't spending it now.
DION DUBLIN IS GARBAGE,You know it,I know it,EVERYONE knows it.

Hope Dion and BBJ play up front on Sun as the light reflective properties of their baldie heids shouldn't be discounted in bedazzling Wattereus during close quarter scrambling about when high balls are punted into the box.
Have to configure the position of the sun over the yard arm with astute angling of the skull but there's goals in it, each one guided in on a beam of sunlight.

Carfinharp,
Don't bother posting a reply, because I will scroll straight past it.
I, and every REAL Celtic fan I have spoken to since Wednesday was very favourably impressed by Dion Dublin on Wednesday. His physical presence. Mobility. Leadership qualities. Skill. Passing ability. Football intelligence.
I, as a keen promoter of the numerous young stars coming through our system, can see that he is a stop-gap measure to buy these boys some time.
Yet I wonder how you would have felt when, back in 1952, Celtic went to a Welsh non-league team to plunder a player who had previously played for Albion Rovers.
"How can we sink so low?" I'm sure you would have bemoaned in your typical style.
That player was Jock Stein, who led us to Coronation Cup glory in 1953, the double in 1955 and...
Ach, you know the rest.
But to have come out with such a poisonous diatribe against an individual who has played only one game for Celtic, and that an impressive one, make me think that you either have an agenda or are a prize pillock.
Or both.
Either way, take your bile-filled opinions to another forum.

Don't know much about Carfinharp but the comment I read tonight was strange. Apologies for querying you about REAL Celtic supporters now you have answered. I did not think Dublin had a great game on Wednesday night and thought you were suggesting this was not what a real Celtic supporter would think. If carfinharp dislikes Dublin because he is old then it is a poor stance that shows carfinharp up. If he dislikes Dublin due to his colour then I agree with your 'despicable and unforgivable' comment. Hopefully Carfinharp is just having a poor night and will be in good form on his next visit.
-
dannythejanny
No, Carfinharp did not rate Dublin before he came and even after a fine debut - wasn't terrific but if he'd have scored then there's not much else he could have done - he says he's GARBAGE.
It's fair enough to say I don't think this player will be a success but to describe someone as garbage is wrong, especially since their only game so far has been a fairly good if unspectacular one.

Do you or anyone else here think that Telfer is a good player for CELTIC?
Do you think LENNON should be in the team when clearly passed his best?
Do you think Petrov should be played out his favoured position after all this time?
Do you think after going through 8-9 defensive players that WGS can get a decent defence together?
Doesn't worry you that left footed players are playing on the right, and right footers are on the left?
Doesn't it worry you that Virgo can't get a place at the back with what's going on at the moment?
DION DUBLIN is not the answer,If you believe he is then ok,that's your opinion, just like I have one, maybe the complete opposite to what you may think.

Enough young and not so young people will suffer this weekend for the mere "crime" of being in the "wrong" place at the "wrong" time without CQN using the same lazy vocabulary as the redtops. Danny&c,
there was me thinking that what distinguished this site from other sources of info regarding Celtic and football generally was this site's distancing itself from "lazy journalism".
Maybe an education in an RC primary and secondary are to blame for my inability to interpret properly the site's mission statements...
Scotsport's Sarah O struck me several months ago as a very crude Barras-inspired animatronic copy of American Dad, and since then, I have, as requested by FACT, not given the programme my custom.

Paul67,
The 'Schism' you mention clearly implies that McLeish had no idea what was going to be announced. I (v. wrongly) assumed that Murray, under the mounting pressure to ‘dae shomthing’ had cleverly swerved the bullet AGAIN by surrendering Eck.AGAIN
It was in November that the decision was made to get shot of the Manager, even to the point of talking to and (IF the papers are correct) verbally agreeing terms with replacements.
I’m now of the opinion there was nothing very clever about the way the Rangers Chairman handled this situation – QUITE THE OPPOSITE!!!
Pre-season.
Mr Murray is in the pooh, his lucky Manager has against the odds stacked up a not inconsiderable amount of silverware – they got a ‘Get out of jail free card’ when Celtic throw the Championship away at Fir Hill. Yet the cracks that were appearing in his Palace built on sand now resemble lacerated fissures.
Only three months into the season and a couple of trips to Celtic Park and it becomes apparent they will win little or nothing this season, so desperate times calls for…… a Murraycast (exposure to the chosen few) – THE MANAGER WILL GO!
Then reality hits, they cannot afford the opulent Frenchman or to pay-off Big Eck - oh Heck!!! Then wonders of wonders they reach the last 16 of the CL and the pressure is off – McLeish must stay (well to the end of the season).
Then the Hibees come to town and give the Boys in blue (who got beat 6-2) a lesson in the finer arts of the glorious game - nobody believes they have a chance in the CL - So SEASON OVER -talk aboot bears wi’ soor heids the Chairman and his cronies arrange a meeting with some disenchanted Ner'zhul! desperate times calls for…… a Murraycast. He promised them an announcement…. But what.
New great players coming in – No even they wouldn’t BUY that one AGAIN
The Cash injection is imminent - Imminent is not going to buy him the time he needs.
How about the Manager thing – McLeish going in the summer is an open secret – major announcement, no harm done.
So he gathers the chosen few – ‘I’ve got to make an announcement the Manager is going – GET IT!’ – Unfortunately there was amoungst them a reporter that wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the writing case. Young Chick leaves in a hurry grabs his mobile and announces his exclusive (or a somewhat-exclusive) he got the crazy idea in his heid Murray was actually making an announcement – no more Murraycasts for him.

Oh dear!
So much for FC Dignity eh? Mrs Le Guen (sp) jets in and looks for a new house in the area, poor Mrs Eck hasn't even started packing and Mrs Le G is rearranging her furniture, tut tut. Poor show indeed.
Hail Hail
Tough match tomorrow but prediction is.......yet again no clean sheet I'm afraid so....Rangers 1 Celtic 2

Could be because I,m meeting him for a pint or three ..........
Whitedoghunch and Stevie21 are coming too-lets see how long it takes us to get ejected from the pub.......
The bluenoses I work with have had enough of chairman dave-yesterday they were pulling the wool back from over their eyes and making statements like "I don,t believe a word murray says..."
Sorry -that was me that said that.
They were saying that murray must think they are all stupid and they think he hung big eck "ooty dry".
Too little ,too late from chairman dave ?

carfinharp, I think I understand where you are coming from. If Dion Dublin is being signed, and playing, for Celtic at the age of 36, we are in trouble, we are downsizing, we are lowering our ambitions, etc. Given our successes in recent years, it is understandable that we are sensitive when it comes to the club's desire to repeat the likes of Seville and Lisbon. I don't have a problem with you sharing these concerns but I do think that you are wrong to call a Celtic player garbage - particulalry since all the evidence suggests otherwise. Old yes, not the pace he once had yes, not the stamina he had at his peak yes but garbage no. Unless you are seeking attention, perhaps you ought to be more specific and, dare I say, polite with your criticsm.
My other suggestion to you is that you pay more attention to Celtic's financial situation, something that is regularly discussed on this forum. The many 'WGS- and Board-positive posts' often represent nothing more than realism, a willingness to understand that you can't run a business by continually making losses and that you have to operate within your means. Here I should point out that the likes of P8ddy and NegativeAnon favour a 'speculate to accumulate' strategy and I think I'm right to say that although they may share your concerns about the likes of Dion Dublin they don't feel the need to disparage the guy by labelling him garbage. So before you tell anyone that Dion is garbage and that we ought to be recruiting a higher calibre of player, perhaps you might also suggest how we can fund such signings. Otherwise you are playing a form of fantasy football and you are out of your league here at CQN.
When you say that "Only a few seasons ago, most players outside the EPL top four wouldn't have got a game for CELTIC", I think that your judgement is clouded by sentiment. Why have so few of MON's team gone on to play for EPL sides or ones of similar stature? Could it be that MON built a team that, to use his own words, punched way above it's weight? That is the real challenge faced by WGS and the current board, how to use limited resources to compete effectively with better-funded teams at a European level (winning the SPL should always be possible given our resoruces and good management, although even then we have no divine right to win it).
Please put Dion Dublin's siging in perspective, we are not paying top money for him and WGS clearly thinks it would be better to spend his limited budget elsewhere. If you judge Dion on this basis, I think that you may see what many others see. He is a shrewd, good value, signing for the club and he can help us to win the SPL and gain entry to the CL - our primary objective this season.
-
Just logged on and ran through last nights posts...jeez what a squabble. This site is renowned for good discussion/arguments/banter, however last nights resembled some other sites where pesonal insults are the order of the day. Not only on each other but on some of the players as well. Dion Dublin is certainly past his best, but he wasn`t bought for the future, he`s a stop gap cover till the end of the season. He played the other night giving BBJ a rest before Sundays game, a game in which Big John has excelled and won for us on more than one occasion. He`ll be right up for it after a break. Dion Dublin played well the other night, he was not GARBAGE, and I don`t think he ever has been garbage. He is an honest pro who has looked after himself, and if he wears the Hoops he gets my support. I have heard of Dion Dublin, but I had never heard of some 33/34 yr old Slovenian we signed for cover a few years back. He stayed till well after his 36th birthday and still we missed him when he left. Now before the flak arrives I am not putting the 2 players in the same category, far from it, I just think that some of the things said repeatedly about DD are way off the mark and disrespectful. Ya prick.

I have no knowledge of any meeting with anybody who writes on here.
Any further accusations shall be dealt with by my lawyers.
Estadio they think we should be privileged to give them our money and forget that we are actually the customers.
I noticed this as I was being ejected from the 67 club on wednesday for not being suitably dressed - remarkably I was wearing the same clothes yesterday for all my meetings then to dinner in glasgow's best eatery and they were suitable.
But apparently not smart enough to mingle with all the hangers on, amateur gangsters and drunks in their sacred lounge to prevent me being forcibly evicted.

skin[as I look out on the snow]my heart bleeds,son!
Ian in bud-you cover a lot of the points I wanted to make to carfinh.
Stein,Simpson,Moravcik were all unheralded players at the end of their careers who went on to make big contributions to the cause.
Where I would agree with carf. is that half the team being
made of players from the old league div 2 is unlikely to set the heather alight.
I cannot agree with some of the language he uses to make his argument'Dublin is garbage' ad nauseam is unworthy and unnecessarily abusive.
Joe Filippi,John Dowie-Celtic have been here before.Idon't know as much as some about how much cash we have so maybe we are having to cut the cloth just now.
The team will need substantial investment in the summer if we're to make headway in the 40th anniversary of our greatest ever European adventure.
I didn't see the Falkirk game but if Ainslie was geeing up his teammates with encouragement then I'm all for it-perhaps the GFITW would like to join him?
I am sure tomorrow that when I go up in the air to celebrate Dion scoring the winning goal the only guy making more noise will be carfinharp.

Carfin harp, shame on you for referring to a Celtic player in such a fashion,i don't,for one minute, believe that you have seen enough of DD to make a valid judgement, and even if you have it is still conduct unbecoming a Celtic fan to use such vitriolic, disparaging terms toward another human being, especially one who currently plies his trade with us,it is,of course, quite acceptable to have an opnion as to a players abilities,i just feel it could be expressed a little more humanely, please,i urge you, think before you print. Can i just ask one question, would a goal on sunday help to sway you to the big mans side?

All this pants about Ranger getting new investment. Does everyone actually think that that bank will simply stand back and allow every penny which MAY be fortchoming to be set aside to pay for new players or claim a large part of it to pay of increasing debts.
My own view is the money will mostly be Champions League cash & Season ticket money, note Murray stating the new man will be around in mid-march...season ticket renewal time ???
Not withstanding the facts..
Wattereus, Lovenkrands, A. Rae, Kyrgiakos & Andrews will ALL walk away fro hee haw. FanFan will be seeking a settlement to stop his 3 year deal. Prso, Novo will have only 12 months left. That's going to require a lot of money just to stand still !!!
Let's face they are simply skint and despite the gabage from Murray he knows they are in deep trouble. All this bluff about major investors, what about the 500 room hotel wee Lewis was building 5+ years ago, what about the Casino they were going to rake in mega cash from....crap the lot of it.
Meanwhile Celtic FC continue to make progress. With the new training centre well in hand, the team a mile clear at the top of the table. Our ONLY rivals Hearts in huge disarray due to a maniac owner & half the team "borrowed" and due to go back we should be making full steam ahead on all fronts to stretch our rivals even further.
With the quality of the young guns coming through, the future can only be GREEN. Keep with the program bhoys we can really make history here.

You come down stairs. Your head is pounding. What time did we stay up to last night? Is was SOME party though, wasn't it? You open the door to the living room - just a crack - and the stench of stale beer, stale cigarette smoke and take away food assails you. You take a step back, hold your breathe and push on. Pulling back the curtains, the light makes you wince. You turn to survey the damage......holy mother of Mary! Who's gonna pick thru' that debris!!??!?
That's what THIS place looked like this morning. And I only came in to talk about the CFC credit card!
I applied for one last time the renewals came out. I already had an MBNA credit card with a fairly healthy credit limit. I wasn't told that they hack the credit limit on one card to give you more credit (at a higher rate, natch) on the new one. And balance transfers don't count towards the rewards scheme. So beaware when you apply....
I know the topic came up a few blogs back, but this is me just getting to the end of the current blog!

have you any REAL friends, maybe your getting mixed up, the people on REAL radio arent your friends either.....
I ALSO SEE IT NOW,
ANY ABUSIVE GREENHUN I SEE AT THE STADIUM I WILL JUST CALL YOU BY NAME..........HAW carfinharp SHUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BETTER STILL DRINK A CAN OF COLA.........
-
try and put yourself in dodgy dave's seat and look at the options.....
why act now on mcleish.....answer....no confidence that they will win against celtic villareal or hibs....does making the announcement help or hinder for the next 4 matches.....most peoples view...not helpful....so why make the announcement now....
can't take the heat of personal cricism.....probably.....also major panic about season ticket renewal........however if you announce a new manager and promise moonbeams even in may...season tickets will probably be renewed then.....or is the cash flow so desperate that the money is needed now.....
logical conclusion......ego doesn't like criticism and desperate for cash......and if it further damages the team..so what....
now stage 2 of plan b/z......promise big investment in club and hence vision of lots of top class new players coming along.....now the easiest thing in football is to tell the media you have paid miles more for players than you actually have....and the second easiest thing , only if you are rangers ...is to do the big sell on moderate players.....remember how the press and support were salivating over fan fan, hemdani,bernard,capucho,emerson....all of whom are at best average and in most cases downright lousy....we had to endure/laugh at articles from luminaries on the tabloids and phone in shows lecturing us on rangers MASTERY of the bosman market, and our ineptitude in signing unknown quantities such as boruc, majic, and naka.......murray knows all this....therefore he can promise the earth just now....spin it with the help of a poodle media and next years crop of fan fans etc will be portrayed as a new generation of laudrup's gazza's and gough's....
so from the dodgy one's perspective all that is required is a bit of firefighting just now and a spinnable story for mid march....buthe has even built himself a bit of margin in there given he has already moved the announcement from a time set in stone by him.....millions to spend in january....3 new first team players...no loans, no bosmans....announcement of huge new investment.....and what happened......none of the above.....just blame the water carrier and move the promises on a bit....
the surest sign of a panic strategy is when the parties can't get their stories straight....mcleish is correcting murray almost every time he speaks.....murray trips himself up with his contradictions almost every time he speaks....
we are extremely lucky with the majority ownership we have had recently...fergus and DD have been supportive, sensible and honest to a fault in their public statements....and brian quinn has ensured we run our business in a scrupulously clean way....
murray once stated "i am celtic's biggest problem" ....i could not agree more ...the idea that an individual like him ever got control of our club gives me the fear ( copyright jack and victor)....he is the bogeyman all supporters should be wary of....
-
Noel – thanks, but on Bobby Russell don't you think that being hung, drawn and quartered is a wee bit harsh for a merited invective.
So the ‘Mushrooms’ from Govan are beginning to see the light, they deserve theirlot but I abhore the nonsense that Murray perpetuates. If by some freak chance they get into the quarter finals, Eck becomes the hero again and all is forgiven, he may ride this out again.
Only by giving them a well deserved hammering can we stick a few nails in.
Rangers 0 – 3 Celtic.

Just saw all the comments about carfinharp and went to see what the fuss was about. I'm absolutely disgusted by what he wrote last night, it's nothing short of racist, and would like to see removed on these grounds. What's all this piglet ad POOH stuff about. Given the dates he mentioned, I reckon the he is no older than 22, but unfortunately in that time, his brain hasn't developed properly, or at all if I'm going to be honest. We thank him however for his continued financial support, as the Wolfe Tones probably would probably also thank him for buying their crap. Here's some striaght talking for you carfinharp: You are an embarassment to the Celtic support.

Teletext Quote from Eck -
'I would like to manage in the premiership. I don't think I can manage in Scotland again.'
Now somethings niggling at me here... It's as if there's a word too many in that statement.

Yes, I wonder how the rising fuel costs will impact on Murray's ability to jet off to far flung places in a rather pathetic attempt to make himself look like the entreprenurial genius he thinks he is.
The guy is so embarrassingly middle-class. He adopts so many bourgeois cliches that I would be offended if he was "the Chairman" of our club.
-
barcabhoy -- excellent points
The issue for Murray is, exactly as you say, he has no margin for error now.
He has explained away the reasons for not spending in January and the media are lapping it up.
Why try to buy Riordan when it is already agreed that McLeish is leaving? Answer -- they didn't really ... How many mirrors does this man have??
Murray has no room for error now. He will come up with something, dress it with bells and whistles and put it in Chick Youngs bowl for him to scoff.
The fact that he made the 'announcement' this week, just a few hours after a 'Murray Out' banner was display at Pittodrie maybe says more for his sensitivity and paranoia than anything else.
At least he has vindicated all the R*ngers Rebels (do you think they'd like that name?) who stood outside last week, angry at being lied to.
Correct, big Dave has confirmed it, on many, many occassions this season he has lied.
I hope during the summer, when we go through our usual 'DD needs to put more money in' & 'Why are the board not doing anything' annual bleating, everyone remembers what is happening now.
We all want to see success but how many Orcs will regret the '90s when they realise the true cost.

Just heard Stuart from London on TalkSport. Definitely sounded like one of the CQN accounting wizards. Giving the presenter (the one that had heart problems and used to be on in the morning with Alan Brazil) stick re Murray's financial situation.

Morning Bhoys.
Is it safe to put my head over the barricades yet!
Dion Dublin was only passable on Wednesday, but he certainly doesn't deserve to be labelled garbage.
Thye reason the much awaited announcement on new monies at Ibrox being delayed is concerned, is because legal and financial eagles have been working to find a way around the BOS debt trap.
Men in strange suits and peenies will see that it happens.

he is planning to bail out at the first opportunity.....
just remember where you heard it first....

bit OTT on dion dublin methinks. he's clearly a stop gap measure to lend a hand till the summer and he's not costing us much by all accounts. he played well enough on wednesday and if it means we can rest BBJ occassionally and keep him fresh it can only be a good thing. the orcs are rattled, i dont see the need to play to holding midfielders in lennon and keane. keane should play from the start, as should naka, who has that wee bit of class and given plenty of the ball he could really hurt rangers.
-
Clearly it's the day before the Rangers game, the troops are nervous, restless and in no mood for brooking dissent. Looks like the hard audience of yesterday has just became harder...
Paul67...
Could I suggest an FAQ for acceptable language and behaviour? The last couple of nights has been punctuated by increasingly regular personal insult and general bad feeling. CQN is the best (by a country mile) Celtic forum. It's the only one I would consider airing my views on and it is home to a number of articulate and insightful Celtic fans. I'd like it to stay this way. I know you're likely to be a busy man, and CQN must fall under the category of "labour intensive hobby" but moving to keep the standard high now will hopefully mean less problems in the future.
CQN in general...
Before posting here can I suggest we repeat the following to ourselves - "Every person posting here is a Celtic fan" (except Edward, and he's turning...), "Everyone has a right to an opinion", "My opinion is not necessarily correct", "Is my post constructive or simply an excuse to be insulting?", For instance the whole Dion Dublin argument.
The posters asking Carfinharp to qualify or retract the statement "Dion Dublin is garbage". To my mind that's fair enough - because it engages Carfinharp and forces him to qualify or defend his viewpoint. Hopefully Carfinharp will modify his position or argue his point.
All to often however we're getting posts with definitions of "Supporter", calling people "Greenhuns", "idiots" and various profanities. Using foul and abusive language helps no one. It brings nothing to the argument and simply inflames the situation. By all means, argue your points vociferously, we all get animated, but don't turn it into a name calling or "I'm better than you" debate. Lets have a little respect for each other. CQN is better than that. You're all better than that. A little moderation and self control will make CQN more popular and Paul67's life easier.
We're all here because we care about Celtic. lets remember that. It's Rangers that should be getting pelters, not our fellow Celtic fans.

Alex McLeish Not Sacked Shocker!.........
It was revealed yesterday that Alex McLeish has not been sacked by Rangers,
but in fact has been secretly working his notice given to David Murraymint,
the too good to hurry mint, last August.
The scandalous lies reported in the tabloid gutter press that Mr Dignity
had been put on notice of dismissal after a demonstration by Rangers fans
outside Ibrox last weekend, was an unforgiveable attack on the club, according
to the Murraymint.
McLeish backed up his chairman's statement by issuing the follow following.....
"It is a scientifically proven fact that four years, five months, twenty
days, six hours and four and a half minutes, is the absolute maximum time
limit that the body can stand as manager of Glasgow Rangers, given the stresses
of the job."
When I realised in August that this time limit would expire in the summer
of 2006, I had no hesitation in handing in my notice.
Even if Rangers had won the Treble and the Champions League this year I would
still have stood down.
In spite of the clamour from top European clubs for my services from the
start of next season, I have declined all such offers, and will be spending
the next ten years or so recovering from the last four years, five months,
twenty days etc. etc."
Signed,
Alex McLeish,
Castle Greyskull.
John Toner
Glasgow.

bit 2nd hand but was told hunter only going in if murray exits.
unless its a simple stadium name sale, there will be no new investor while murray still in charge.
BoS demanded that murray get spending/debt under control. ok says murray then promptly signs arteta for £6M.
BoS irate at this and tell him he has to hand over financial control until debts more manageable.
Im stepping back he announces and mccleland comes in.
looks like debt coming under control so murray comes back in.
he spends most of boumsong money and HBoS apparently lose the plot and gain some form of security on debt.
murray knuckles wrapped, quietens down and warns fans of new financial reality.
he then loses plot again and promises 3 new players--cash not bosmans.
HBoS realise this guy is uncontrolable and slightly bonkers when it comes to cash........
HE HAS TO GO
DO THEY HAVE ANY CLIENTS THEY TRUST IMPLICITLY WHO COULD BUY OUT THIS LUNATIC????????????????????

Brilliant Photo Rammiebhoy.
Funnily enough I've been trawling ebay for old editions of playing for celtic from this era. I used to have one which had a magic picture of the fans flying the flag at Ibrox, just can't seem to track it down.
I see the best odds you can get on Mick scoring tomorrow are 25-1. Short for a defender, but not when you consider his haul this season. I think I might put a cheeky fiver on 2-0 to celtic with Mick to score at 150-1, more chance that the lottery which has cost me hundreds over the years!
Hoping for 2-0 tomorrow, but not hopeful about the clean sheet if I'm honest.
Hail, hail!

I don't know where the questions about Lennon, Petrov etc. are coming from but I will give you my opinion.
Firstly, Dublin has played 1 game so far and has been one of the better players on the park. He may be old, he may not be as good as he used to but that doesn't stop him from still being good.
He's only here till the summer and cost not a penny - it's not a forward step but a sidewards one (not backwards).
We had no cover as we've lost players who wanted to go and through injury.
Now we have people phoning up Celtic TV saying they think we should leave Zurawski out for Sunday.
Compare this to 3-4 weeks ago when we were having to play Maloney/McGeady up front...
Telfer - Limited player but one who you know what you'll get (STOPGAP) we have now signed Wilson and he will be given time to be bedded into the team because we still have Telfer - you see what Strachan is doing here?
Lennon - Poor run of form recently, was excellent earlier in the season, I'd play Keane instead of him on Sunday and give him a rest. A run of poor form/tiredness does not = past your best. He was at his best IMO at the start of the season.
Petrov - Don't know where you are coming from on playing him out of his current position? I believe we are stuck in the 3-5-2 mentality that you need a defensive midfielder at all times. In a 4-4-2 it's better to have 2 players who can defend and attack; box-to-box midfielders. Ones that get involved and boss games. Petrov hasn't being doing this recently but we know he can. I agree with Kojo in that he is consistant in his inconsistancy but in no way is he a journeyman. Again, not really sure what you're asking here.
Defence - We had a decent defensive record earlier in the season so why not? I think a lot of the problems have been rooted in the Petrov-Lennon dip. Celtic defences shouldn't have to cope with so much pressure.
Left footed players on the right and right footed players on the left - If you are talking about McManus being played on the right side of the central pairing once then it was clearly to combat the players they were up against. Anyway most defences are made up of 2 right footed CBs they cope.
If you're talking about Naka on the right and Maloney on the left then I think you should take a look at your own tactical awareness. They are playing far better like this than on the opposite wings and they do switch during games. It means they can cut inside and run at defences and also makes the play narrower by nature which makes us stronger in the middle of the park. This allows the full-backs to overlap easily so that's clearly the point in it.
Virgo got a few games then WGS went to the tried and tested defence - I have no problem with that and Virgo has shown that he can be a very good player.
Again, Dion Dublin is a very capable stopgap till the end of the season. He is a positive hard working, talented and versitile player with bags of experience. Everything you want in a stopgap. He is basically John Hartson with more workrate, pace and stamina (even though he is 5/6 years older) but less deadly in front of goal. Is that such a bad player to have at your club?
-
Barcabhoy...
I see where you are coming from regarding David Murray and his wish to sell the club. I foresee one major problem for him though. People with a philanthropic reason for buying Rangers will be clearly priced out of the market for the club. Vanity purchases are usually notable by their knock down price (for instance when Man City were in financial trouble the Gallacher brothers talked about buying it). David Murray could happily spend £6 millions on Rangers - for him it's not a great deal of money for the kudos, PR and general raising of his media profile. However, who has tens of millions sitting around waiting to buy little more than a cash drain? Even at £60 millions (so just writing off his investment in the club) the club falls out of that remit, meaning it has to be valuable to business and investors (even to asset strippers like Murray). The problem there is that the asset stripper royale has already plundered the club and left it with little other than a stadium and a poor group of players. The Casino idea is dead in the water, they don't own a lot of real estate (something that Celtic stand to profit from) and with the club (assuming Murray gives it away with all it's debts) approximately £75 millions of debt (52 millions tranfered to MIH and 23 millions still at the club). What investors will want to try and get a return on that? The TV money isn't great at the moment, the club will struggle to get into Europe this year - and they will be asking Murray to "Show me the money!!!". Mother Hubbards cupboard is (teddy)bear [sic].
In terms of Ian Skelly putting money in - Given the parlous state of the car business, will Skelly really be keep to gamble such a great deal of money at the expense ot alienating a sizable chunk of the populous? Wh might laugh at such a suggestion, but CR Smith, Carling and countless others would concur that this is a real issue (look at what happened to Poeples sales after the Celtic sponsorship also).
At the moment, the only wat to make a small fortune from Rangers is to start off with a big one. Who throws away £60 millions?
Abramovic has his reasons (Private Eye readers will know what I allude to), so does the Portsmouth investor, and we all know what the Glazers plans are...given that neither Everton or Liverpool can find suitable backers, why would we assume Murray can do it?

I agree with your comments of acceptable behaviour and language.
I was guilty of going beyond what I myself would consider acceptable in comments made to John Boyle O'Reilly.
I don't think it would take a genius to dismantle his points and can only apologise to all users of this forum that I was too lazy to do this.
Hopefully this sort of behaviour will stop now and all CQN users will post in a manner that shows mutual respect.

I had this argument with a hun friend in the pub last night. Where do you get £75m ofdebt from? The MIH accounts section 11 clearly show Rangers with £26m debt due within 1 years and £95m greater than 1 year, so £121m. My hun friend insisted it was £75m (despite not taking me up on my offer that I would give him the £1 requred to download the accounts from comapnies house). SO it's bad enough the press pushing £75mdebt, lets not do it here as it's simply not true.

Ian in budapest,you say:
"Please put Dion Dublin's siging in perspective, we are not paying top money for him and WGS clearly thinks it would be better to spend his limited budget elsewhere. If you judge Dion on this basis, I think that you may see what many others see. He is a shrewd, good value, signing for the club and he can help us to win the SPL and gain entry to the CL - our primary objective this season"
That is my point,Dion Dublin,is just the same as TELFER and CAMARA,English league has beens, like it or not, that's what they are.
This nonsense being said time and time again about DUBLIN being a stop gap, there is no such thing at CELTIC,CAMARA was a Stop gap for the Stop gap and the same can be said for Telfer.
They are NOT Stop gaps, they are fully paid up CELTIC players on the cheap.
They are here to do a job to the best of their abilities,I agree with that 100%,I have never said any different.
Unfortunately the best of their abilities is simply no where near what CELTIC need as players go.
Maybe I should just have to get used to it and stop complaining and join the rest of the sheep in the field.
The best of their abilities came and gone more than a few years ago.
I'm not saying push the boat out and spend millions.
So the CELTIC team has to suffer for another year again so we can buy a few good players in the summer, that was said last summer too.
For the silly "your no a fan" comments.
I would never boo any player and will support them 100% when in a CELTIC shirt, always have, always will, arrive early, don't leave early, buy shirts, tickets home and away, pressies for family at Xmas from the CELTIC shop, bla bla bla.
STANDARDS are dropping and plain for most to see.
"The CELTIC shirt doesnae shrink and awe that"
Looks like Big Clarky has been doing a few Boil washes with the kits cos in my eyes, they are definately shrinking.
A CELTIC Supporter YES, A fool NO
(not a Pr*#k either bobby russell)
Maybe I should just have to get used to it and stop complaining and join the rest of the sheep in the field.

Far, far too much chat about Digninty FC on this site of late.

P8ddy, Canajunbhoy suggested a code of conduct some time ago but it met with a lack of enthusiasm.
I am in favour and I’ll do something if the problem persists. Let me know what you think this time next week.
I gave most of the objectionable looking stuff a miss last night.
Thanks for the email TheMadMurph, I have been watching the wrong article since 11:00.

Long time lurker etc...
Starting to get the POFT (pre old firm tension)but must say a lot better than previous times now i have found this site. NO longer look at papers or listen to phone ins (although my supporters bus insists on it til enough folk shout them down)so blood pressure down and life expectancy increased. They really do have an obvious agenda and celtic will never get fair crack of the whip, ever.
This site is like a supporters bus, full of characters with very different opinions, some you agree with, some you wonder if they were at same game, the optimists and the pessimists, all the things you need for a good supporters bus and lively debate.
Here's my tuppenceworth on team for what its worth.
Every fan has a player they find it hard to take to, mine is telfer. Yes i know he is a stopgap and solid etc, but his distribution is shocking and he relies on naka's fantastic touch to make him look acceptable, Been at fault for a number of golas (or involved) this season and cant tackle a winger wh runs at him. MY only fear for game tomorrow is burke running at him (ok i have more than 1 fear). Left back biggest problem. Wallace and camara never in a million years should get near that position. Astounds me why mulgrew allowed to go on loan, best most natural left back at club. My dad has watched a lot of young team last few years and has been commenting from summer how he cant fathom why best left back at club not getting look in. Still on the defence, bobo, regardless of his contact, is the best defender at the club by a country mile, head and shoulders ahead of everyone else.
IMHO lennon been best player at club last 5 yrs, i love the guy. However, been obvious since dec19th he needed rested and done him no good (or the team). Also allowed those who dont like him amongst the support to have a pop at him. I think keane must start ahead of him and if a toss for 2 of them in same position keane gets nod, but that is no disrespect to lennon to lose out to a legend like keane, think keane nudges it as has more drive. What i will say is on wed keane tidied up well with lots of sideways and backwards passes, all greatfully accepted by support, when lennon does it there are groans and moans from the johnny come lateleys, a slight grumble if i can make on my first post.
I think magic will be a revelation, the runs he makes off ball are fantastic, if someone could find him a third of time he would get 30 goals a season, a lot more to come from him.
Sorry for long post.

it did make a lot of sense, but that is the financial reality....
something i feel wgs is handling very well imo

Been away for a few days and will try to catch up on what's been going on.
Has anything official happened with Le Guen or is he the media preferred option?
Om Thursday I spoke to 2 PSG fans who think Le Guen is a good manager but likes a bit of money.
He apparently spent a fortune by French standards at Lyon.
If Le Guen is going to Ibrox and the media in France don't care, where is the money coming from?
He wouldn't touch the job without £20 million to spend.

On the Dion Dublin debate, has anyone considered this? We all know that as a player, he is past his best - but as we saw on Wednesday night, he brings an air of experience, encouragement and leadership to the team e.g. probably saving Stan a booking. With the number of excellent young players coming through, and given that he's a mate of Strachan's from old days, is there any chance he might, just might have been brought in as a player as a stop-gap as a prelude to joining the coaching staff?
-
Welcome mgm78, good to hear from you.

Look at Dublin's pedigree then compare it to Camara's and Telfer's.
In no way are they in the same bracket.

I recently had the trauma of explaining to my eldest child that Santa does not exist and why adults continue with the myth. To be fair he dealt with it very well and was almost relieved to know the truth. He then analysed over the recent years where he thought he shouls have identified the half-truths and white lies and that he should have known earlier.
Do think that the laptop loyal and the Orcs will go through this same process and deal with it in the same way when Swiss Davi tries to wriggle out of the recent Santa stories.
Lets tell a story that we had agreed that Eck decided to leave in January but didn't want to updet the recent upsurge in form (they beat Peterhead you know).
Even though this contradicted everything that was said in November.
Having had this "swallowed" why not go for the the real big one that Eck and Swiss agreed at the start of season that this would be the last. Excuse me? Why was this not discussed in November etc and why has this not been picked up? Having has this "swallowed" would be true to say that your not a real lap toployal unless you have "received"?
But the thing that really flashed in lights form Ecks piece was that he would not stay eve if he was given £10million, yep 10 big ones. So we can safely assume that as the Chairman "has never hid anthing from him", then there would be not £10million to spend in the summer. But Eck what if he promised you the squillions that the next Paul Le Guen would get that he has promised the Laptops? Is he not being honest with you or them.
Does anybody remember the bizarre 70s US comedy Soap where at end of each episode the clues for next week were almost completely contradictory to what you uhad seen or what was actually going to happen. Does Martin Bain think by clicking his fingers he becomes invisible?
I'll get my coat.
-
I have found the Murray saga hilarious this week. He gets a couple of hundred orcs protesting, some god forbid, threating not to renew their season books till him and Eck commit hari-kari. He must think to himself "ungrateful b******s" after all I've done for them, where's their LOYALTY. He then phones up the poodles at the red-tops and gies them big eck as the sacrificial lamb, to appease his LOYAL hordes and at the same time showing the rest of us, his immpeccable sense of LOYALTY.
Now we know why all the r*****s supporters clubs have LOYAL on their crests, its to set an example to the rest of us, that when times are harsh they to a man always remain LOYAL and when such LOYALTY is shown by their leadership well how can you fault them.
Hopefully we will be a couple up at half-time tomorrow and will be able to witness their world reknowned LOYALTY first hand, aye right maybe no. yours John-b

Big Eck isn't picking the team-DM is!
DM has painted himself into a corner-he had to appease Billy and Billina Bonkers by saying Eck was leaving-unfortunately he had to do this without a replacement lined up.
I think Billy Davis will get the job;not as good as Elrond but much more acceptable than Grim Reaperts.
-
The thought had crossed my mind that Murray may be making the team selection.
A new trend in Scottish Football following the Romanov revelations ?
DD picking the Celtic team given some of the strange choices in team selection in recent months ?

posted b4 reading the goijngs on last night, definately the POFT. Play nice children!!
Think its fair to say that in the last 6 weeks WGS lost a lot of the browny points he had built up since the shambles on day 1. I liked the direction he was going with team but the doubts have set in recently and no longer sure if he is the man to take us forward. On other hand might just be a blip and things may turn round. Hopefully we have the squad to take us to the league next year and if the correct signings made (left back, centre half to partner bobo and a quality target man to keep BBJ on toes) then we might just surprise ourselves. As i said a little unsure of WGS but how he reacts and how we play for rest of season will show if he has what it takes. I certainly hope so.
Team tomorrow has to have boruc and balde with a midfield of shaun keane stan and naka with BBJ and magic up front. Think the 3 defensive positions up for grabs but he will go for same defence as wed night. As ive said pace of their wingers worry me but dont have a solution for it - varga or virgo in middle with balde, mcmanus on left wilson right? Not happy with mick at left back as centre his best position but wouldnt trust camara or wallace but just cant see WGS dropping telfer. Not wanting to nit pick with fellow suporters but think it was derbyshireboy who thought telfer was good wednesday night. He got 1 cross by first defender but dont know if that constitutes a good game but for all i dont like him he may be the stable option. If he plays then he will need help to cover wingers, may leave us exposed. Hopefully with the 2 wide men and the 2 up front we have enough to worry them and we may not keep a clean sheet but we may not have to to get a result.
Who was the last team we had a clean sheet against??
here's hoping.

Dellbhoy. OFEX link for Rangers accounts (year to 30/6/05). Can't see where the £23m figure for debt comes from. £27m due this year; £40m due in later years. Maybe there is a split in the notes?

Well said PA88Y @ 12:38 PM, can’t believe some of the diatribe in the last 48hrs.
Famous football teams are a strange investment, but can be better assets than first appear;
ROI, next to nothing they hunger for Cash and the more you make the more you have to invest.
Asset Value, Surprisingly strong, with a fan base who are never going to see a club go out of business Football clubs are more resilient than they are given credit for.
If as you put it Murray, originally bought Rangers for (6M) philanthropic reasons and wanted to make the team he supported a great team, he succeeded, however it is changed days. My guess would be RFC is now the Jewel in the Crown at MIH not because of the finances but because of it’s status.
MIH looked to leverage RFC as an Asset to alleviate it’s high gearing, getting outline planning permission for a Casino and redistributing 50M+ of debt was meant to turn RFC into a sellable commodity (even though this was spun to the Loyal as another philanthropic gesture). This didn’t work RFC is still too far indebt to have any nett worth and the Casino is a along way from being a viable project as kirstymccabe-csc said Murray doesn’t control this asset, even if he wanted to sell he couldn’t let it go cheap – my guess Cannes will have to wait.
You raised the question of Chelsea, I’m not sure if it’s the same point but I posted a month or so ago on this. There is a plan afoot by Abramovich to build a new stadium for Chelsea at Earls Court, with the figures from the article on the BBC website I did a simple profit and loss table:
..............................Loss........Profit
Purchase Earls Court.....400M
Develop Stadium..........100M
Sell spare land EC.....................250M
Sell Stamford Bridge..................500M
Value of New Bridge...................250M
Total Loss 500M Profit 1,000M
Maybe Mr Abramovich isn’t as philanthropic as he would like to make out, also Chelsea (not Abramovich) PLC are 250M in debt.
Spoke to a good friend of mine who is a Chelsea supporter he says he won’t be selling the pitch because the fans own it – he has 1ydsq.
Diligence is the word for all football Supporters – now about Dion………
-
that should have been league this year not next year.

-
Bhoydell...
Initially I did use the £120m figure, but stepped back from it. Why? Because the maths is scary enough using the Ranger PR figures! If they want to use those as a base line I'm happy to oblige them - their finances are scary enough at that level without them having to face the real debt figure. To be honest, I think it illustrates my point better than the true debt level. If no investor would touch them with £75 millions debts, what hope £120m.
This being said, the figures I used were very lazy and utilised only to flesh out my point regarding investors.
In the end, it's a bit like the Austin Powers joke when Doctor Evil asks for 1 Billion dollars to a 1960's President. The President laughs and says "One billion? There isn't that much money in the world! Why not ask for a gazzilion? or a million billion!" Ultimately, £75m or £121m are pretty meaningless when either figure condemns the club to a decade or more of subjugation and peonage.

talking of dodgy pens did i read correctly mccurry is ref? I thought he had retired? (genuine question dannythejanny this time, wasnt trying to be smart erse last time but kinda read like i was).
If the greek tragedy is unfit for them i wonder who will be handed the task of manhandling BBJ without fear of being pulled up for it.
When did it become illegal to play up front for celtic and be over 6 ft? I have watched sutton, then BBJ and now DD on wednesday constantly fouled and nothing given (unless in our own half)yet fight fire with fire and fouls and yellow cards handed out. Know BBJ is no saint but ian brines in particular has a problem with big strikers playing for celtic.

Thats quite alright! :-) I totally agree with your points regarding Abromovic, although is the debt figure not £474m? All of which is repayable on 18mnths notice? (Originally £250m was repayable on demand but this was changed under pressuse from shareholders). Mr Abramovic isn't at Chelsea to throw away money.
spikeysAuldMan...
I could never understand why I was the baddest man here anyway! ;-)
I love a good argument - but just can't be going with cheap jibes. And remember, I'm not anti anything, I'm pro Celtic! :-)

I know BBC are giving Rangers 24 hours notice with our team for tomorrow but I live in hope of a late change.
I would like to see Zurawski play with Maloney just behind him. Both make good runs leaving space for anyone able to break from the midfield.
The advantage apart from quick players up front is that both players will chase lost causes.
This would help the midfield and defence.
I have fears if BBJ starts tomorrow as Rangers need a result and he will be booked after 3 ariel challanges, even if he wins the ball cleanly.
-
mgm78
Haven't heard who the ref is.
As for the DD,BBJ treatment by refs thing Sutton always got the same treatment.
Then Collina the widely regarded best ref in the world at the time took charge of the Celtic Stuggart game. I don't think I remember any fouls given against Sutton but a good few for him.

Sir Paul,
I know that what I am about to suggest, is as close to a venial sin as one can achieve.
Several worthy members, on this beloved Beacon of Celtica, have expresssed....well......to put it mildly...... doubts..... concerning Celtic's procurement of one.....
Kenny Miller!
To return to my opening CONFESSION of committing a CQN TRANSGRESION....
If one should ankle over to the NEWS NOW CELTIC SITE,and runs one eye(Sounds Downright PAINFUL!)over the Menu Offerings of the Day.... Stop at the Title,"KENNY MILLER...BACK TO THE SPL".....and Click thereon...
One will be whisked to a STENHOUSEMUIR FC SITE....(I know, I know....A minor SACRILEGE...for some of us......for some of us)
Now to get to the Meat of this submission.
There, one will be able to READ...
"THE OMNIBUS ADVENTURES OF KENNY MILLER."........
As authored by a staunch Stenhousemuir Supporter...... that in itself, I would hazard, dictates a NEUTRAL SLANT to the contained contents of Mr. MILLER'S LIFE AND TIMES, from Humble BEGINNINGS until the PRESENT.
I am sure there are oodles and maybe NOODLES of FOOD FOR THOUGHT, which I recommend should be Solemnly Digested and RUMINATED on....... BY ALL...and, of course, natch.... ESPECIALLY.......
BY, ANY MR.MILLER MILLER DETRACTORS, who wish to follow my indicated itinerary.
Very interesting, it was, to me...... Who of COURSE!
Is a DYED IN THE WOOL PROMOTER OF KENNY'S IMPORTATION TO CELTICA!
Gie the LAUDDIE a CHANCE!
Wait until he plays a gemme, afore ye condemn his acquirement....
SOUNDS FAIR TO ME??????
Hail! Hail!

Aye 'twas I danny. Happy to accept that I can get a distorted view by not seeing what the camera can't show but can't see how I cannot see what the camera does show if you get my drift:>)
Seriously though perhaps its simply that my TV watch of games at Celtic Park is with the result known and consequently the judgements made can be more dispassionate than those made at the game where there's more to play for at the time. Then any mistake is magnified as a result of the tension. Just my view of course.
I find it difficult to know how anyone could think Telfer had other than a good game on Wednesday.

Okay carfinharp, where do we find the money to buy and pay better players than Telfer, Camara and Dion Dublin? Do you suggest we sell someone or something? If so, who or what do we sell? Or which costs do we reduce to accomodate the better players you wish to acquire?
As I said this morning, it's fine that you have an opinion but unless you are constructive and come up with a solution you are adding little to this forum. There are many other blogs and sites full of people who do nothing but moan about how badly our club is run and I guess I talk for many when I say that it's the constructive tone that makes CQN different.
Fire away, I and others would like to hear your considered views. Please bare in mind that the club has been losing money for the past 6 or 7 years and it can't go on doing this indefinitely.

Emusanorphan...
The Pressley comment wasn't funny - in any context.
Kojo...
Two things - One, the standards appreciated and aspired to by Stenhousemuir fans are (or should be) rather lower than those of Celtic. Frankly, what a Stenhousemuir fan thinks about a player is of little interest or indeed importance.
The second point alludes to this "give people a chance" attitude. How many games should Muggleton have got? Biggins? or any of the other less than stellar players we have been subjected to? Further, must I stick my hand in the fire to find out if it hurts? Sometimes the level of football a player is playing at isn't because the whole of football has a blind spot but because the player is playing at the level his skills are appropriate to. In Miller's case, the Championship.
I've said it before, but I'll reitterate. If we fill our team full of first division players, we will, naturally, become a first division team. Just apply Occam's Razor.
I can believe that football will get it wrong with one player, but are we to believe that Strachan can see something in multitudes of players? Is he really that good? And if so, how do you explain away his CV?
/p
-
Anyone else dissapointed that Hearts didn't get a point.
When we bear Rangers tomorrow it would mean we extend our lead over Rangers and Hearts while Hearts also extend their lead over Rangers.
-
Ian_in_budapest...
I'd contend we had better at the club - and on lower wages!
For instance, Jackie Mac was better at either right or left back, and Laursen was a decent player. Further, we had, and gave away Didier.
Equally, we paid a transfer fee for Telfer yet gave away Sutton.
In the end, I'd rather we didn't sign anyone than sign deadwood. Youth players may be an unkown quantity but at least we start from a position of not knowing if they are good enough. I think we already know that Telfer, Camara and Dublin fall short of the standard required by our club.

Beyond a complex fence
I heard a young man crying
"Mammy, they have turned me into dross"
I have sold my soul to the crown,
I am being coached by John Brown,
And the best they can produce is Maurice Ross.
They lie, to get you to Milngavie,
When once, I dreamt of playing in the green.
I was quite good on the wing,
Now they`re teaching me how to sing,
No Surrender and Rule Britania and The Queen.
Behind a shower screen,
I heard a young man sobbing,
"It looks as if ahm gonny get a free,
For although I`ve hardly played,
They say I won`t make the grade,
How I wish I'd stayed at F.C. Dignity
Oh, why, did I go to Milngavie,
Instead of signing on for Celtic FC?
If I did a lot of hard work
I could be as good as Chris Burke!!??
I was better than Chris Burke, when I was three.
By an empty changing room,
I saw a man surveying,
Barratt Homes are poised to make a bid,
They will put it to better use,
You can buy a nice wee hoose,
Mr Murray, just who were you trying to kid?
Bye Bye, state of the art Milngavie,
You promised us a new star every day,
All your dreams are up in smoke,
Barrowfields no longer a joke,
As the young Celts show you, really how to play
