Roberts poised to take over from McLeish

Clarity of thought and action are two of the key tenants of leadership.

Announcing that Alex McLeish will be relieved of his duties four months hence shows how little David Murray knows about the workings of a dressing room.

Working for a condemned man, who will clearly be preparing for his next position, is worse than having no manager at all.

I am pleased that we not be troubled by McLeish again. He has won far more than he should have with the comparative resources available to him at Rangers.

He always had a weaker squad than Martin O’Neill, which was borne out by the chasm between the teams during two of his seasons in charge, but when McLeish got close to a league or cup, he always won it.

Any manager who could win two leagues in three seasons against O’Neill’s Celtic while being a net seller in the transfer market to the tune of £15 million has remarkable qualities. It should also be said of him that he protected his chairman during this period, when many others would have laid blame at the door of the man who controls the budget.

Rangers fans will be pleased that they have the opportunity of a fresh start, if annoyed they have to wait until the summer.

You can expect Clyde manager Graham Robert to take over at Ibrox, perhaps before the end of the season.

    Paul,

I still maintain that McLeish has been working his notice since early in the season.

Murray has given in to the hounds and broken the news. He is a deplorable, disgusting man who deserves all he gets.

McLeish is an excellent manager who I found it difficult to dislike, and as you say he has protected Murray throughout all of this. I really do pity him. I hope he gets a decent job in England.

As for Roberts as the next Manager, well, you bet it will be. In times when money is tighter than a ducks proverbial, he fits the bill perfectly. Oh, and let's not forget that he falls squarely into the "right sort of peepul" category.

Bring on the Fan Fan big man.....as I said earlier this season, time to bury them celtic.

By Sunday they might just be 5th again, all things going according to plan!!.

    Hail Hail

Paul - is your Roberts tip a hunch, based on rumour, or have you heard something concrete? I can see a certain logic to it but if it's correct I would be surprised and pleasantly so. I can't see him being a tactical genius or particularly astute in the transfer market.

What about the strong rumours of Mr Keegan? My fear would be DM tries to attract the manager who has humiliated him most this year -Tony Mowbray and who's to say he wouldn't be interested? And, depending on the rest of the English season, George Burley could also be a contender (again).

3-2 on Sunday with Keane bagging a double and BBJ getting the opener.

Graham Roberts? Hmmm, can't see it Paul. He might want to take his assistant with him.
And that's Joe "1989 Cup Final, Thank-you Gary Stevens" Miller. (;-0)

Harking back to the last thread, can I just thank p8ddy for yet another erudite reply to a detractor. This site would be the poorer without his sceptical, but becoming fairer by the day, input.

Lastly, on the last thread I posted directions for pablophanque, who is heading to the U-19s match against Rangers at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium, Kick-off 2pm on Friday. I thought perhaps one or two others might want to go along, so:

If you are coming from the Glasgow area, head along the M8 towards Edinburgh, go past Coatbridge and the EuroTerminal turn-offs, and take the Newhouse turn-off (the one after Chapelhall).
The turn-offs are well signposted. It's the NEWHOUSE one you want.
At the bottom of the slip road, turn LEFT towards Chapelhall and Airdrie. It's a straight road from there. Around a mile and a half. You go through Chapelhall, and the Excelsior Stadium is on the outskirts of Airdrie, on your right-hand side.
    Ye cannae miss it. Honest.
Ignore the "Away Fans" sign and go on a couple of hundred yards, where you turn right into the car park for the main stand.
A wee steward there usually collects £2 for using the car park. Ach, Airdrie need the cash. It's £2 to get in. Not sure if you can still get in for free with your season ticket, but it's worth a try.
Try to get a team sheet off one of the stewards in the stand. It greatly aids the identification of the participants.
Pie and Bovril's not bad either.
Due to work commitments, I may only be able to stay for the first half, so please let us all know how we got on.
A lot will depend how many of our top players Willie McStay is allowed to use, as some have been training with the first team.
But we'll win by a couple if our starting line-up is anywhere close to this:
Scott Fox; Paul Caddis, Dean Richardson, Darren O'Dea, Scott Cuthbert; Jim O'Brien, Simon Ferry, Teddy Bjarnason, Ryan Conroy; Diarmuid O'Carroll, Paul McGowan.
Subs: Paul Skinner, Ryan McCafferty, Andy Traub, Mark Miller, Charlie Grant, Paul Cahillane, Graham Carey.
    Enjoy!

Unbelievably undignified kneejerk reaction to avoid major embarrassment on Sunday.

Imagine it. Ten minutes to go, 2 down. What do the hordes do? Leave early? Stay to demand the head of Alex? Lie down on Edmiston Drive and stop the traffic until Dave delivers?

It would have been fun to watch anyway. But this is aimed at defusing the situation before it happens. Goes to show how confident they are of winning on Sunday, what? (Don't get me wrong, I'm not being triumphalist, just reflecting on their defeatism.)

And the announcements. An announcement about an announcement about a new manager. Note, deal not completed yet (so whoever it turns out to be was always the only target). An announcement about an announcement about investment. If it's there, why not just announce it?

How does he get out of this one?

Sacked, resigned, or asked to resign?

Paul - any basis to the Roberts suggestion or just an intelligent guess?

I wonder if the 'delay' in the major investment is related to the sacking of Souness. Perhaps Newcastle were lined up to bid £20 million for Bob Malcolm!

With regards Chesney's inclusion of Telfer in last nights line-up.

Young Wilson played on the opposite end of the park to allow Telfer his usual position. Similarities of Danny McGrain here. Was he not played by the Scottish coach on the opposite end in order to facilitate a 2nd rate Rangers player?

Wonder if uncle Walter will use Wilson in the same way.

Just shows you that this young lad has already showed his class.

In my opinion, a possible legend in the making.

I think the appeasement session to the Rangers supporters factions indicated that as soon as Rangers are no longer in the CL then Eck will be moved on quickly. Even if Eck negotiates Rangers to get passed VR (as the mans luck never ceases to amaze me) the emergency funds will be made available to the new man. The so called announcement is useless as they cannot buy anyone until June anyway when a WC will be going on. So get the new guy in now to start doing the ground work.

I reckon as I said before it will be a french coach. Second guess is that Souness will come in and put up his own money. The man needs the attention his career is finished. DM owes him a few favours but this time Souness will be investing in the club putting in his own money.

If it´s JC, Xavier start buying Celtic shares NOW !!!!!

Posted at the same time of new blog on previous post(sentiments tie totally with the post, though if it is Roberts, that is a joke) -

I thought Murray didn't sack managers or some guff along those lines.

I find the timing of the sacking astonishing. rangers still have European spots to fight for, this is a massive boost to both Hibs and Hearts, tfod could now go into freefall. I also think it now makes us favourites for the game at the weekend.

Lets not digest what he won and how he got there - all very shady IMHO .. ask the Hibees and the lanarkshire huns what they think of him

    For Eck

There's a man i meet walks up our street
He's a worker for the Murray Mint
Has been for four or 5 years
And he takes no points off nobody
    And litter off the gutter
    Puts it in a team
    And never seems bitter
And he packs his bags in a few more weeks
and its a case of "games a bogie"
    He never lets on
Cause he hasn´t got a scoobie
He let me know a secret about the lack of money in his kitty
    He's gonna buy a donkey
    Gonna call her Numpitee

And he'll sail her up the west coast
    Through villages and towns
    we'll be is Seville and
    They'll be doing their rounds
They'll ask me how i got her i'll say "i saved my money"
They'll say isn't she pretty that ship called Numpitee

    Hail Hail

BYE BYE ECK I HOPE YOU GET AN HISTORIC GUBBING THIS SUNDAY, IT HELPED MON IT SURE WILL HELP WGS

Will there ever be a right time for the FanFan story?!?!?!?

The news that McLeish is leaving will take up the headlines for the next few days - realising the FanFan story would either take over from this and McLeish would be ignored, by shadowed by the McLeish news or run in conjunction and therefore probably have less effect than on its own.

Maybe tomorrows papers filled with the McLeish story (that's if they weren't today - I don't know I get all my news from the internet and the metro) then Saturdays filled with FanFan's? By that I mean the FanFan story printed as soon as the morning print is made?

Curly, Billy Davies would be my tip as well. He bizarrely went on about his love for rangers in a recent interview.

It could be that rangers have been sounding out any managers with a playing connection to them and who are also cheaply available. They can then sell the appointment as a return to their roots and history, trying to appeal to the more basic nature of their fans. I dont think it would work with most of them as they still think they are big players on the football stage.

    Re McLeish,

what kind of man does that ? I can (exclusively) reveal that McLeish will be leaving at the end of the season.........

Anyway, 2 classic and somewhat bizzare quotes from the BBC report of Murray's statement:-

    1. "The decision had been made. This is a premature announcement,".

What ???? No, it's about 3 months after everyone knew McLeish was out at the end of the season. No, it's a blatant attempt to treat McLeish in a way that tries to force him to resign, thereby avoiding any pay-off.

    2. "Significant amounts of money will be coming into Rangers Football Club. It's obvious Rangers have got to re-invest real money in players."

This reminds me of pre-McCann Celtic Board of Directors, you know - we're gonna put some REAL money into it. Jeez, what other kind of money is there ?

One thing I learnt during the '90s is that whatever goes wrong, however bad the situation is, it can ALWAYS get worse. A lot worse. Hopefully that lot are about to learn that.

Perhaps on Sunday, WGS has his opportunity to cement his place at Celtic - his 6-2 if you like.

Come on the Celts - go to it. Let's have some fun.

2 of my most favourite games at Ipox was when we had the 'lilo' day, followed quickly by the 'peperoni' day. The McLeish announcement makes sunday an ideal day to do something equally momentuous. In Spain, if a team is playing poorly, the supporters take out white hankies and wave them to indicate they are surrending and are registering their displeasure. How about 8,000 white hankies on Sunday to acknowledge the surrender of McLeish? Or any other ideas?

Did Billy Davies not follow on from Eck at Motherwell ?

It all depends on this ahem!! major investment and what form it takes. I wouldn´t rule out Souness making a return as Football director.

I still think that a better manager could get the present squad playng better with just a few tweaks here and there that why I reckon the coach will be French. Maybe even a French Coach with Souness pullling the strings making the decisions and taking the flak - I mean where else is ther for him to go ?

If Rangers want to bring the beast back, i will personally offer to go and pick him up.

There was recently an internet poll on the go apparently, asking folk who they would chose, if they were allowed to punch a personality. By a landslide it was won by the beast, which says a lot about the man really.

Chairman Dave is being very bullish, which I know is his usual demeanour.
However, he seems convinced that he will pull off such a huge miracle as Le Guen and more investment that will go straight into the team.

If he does not do it there will be a lot of irate bears out there, additionally his position would be untenable given his assurances of this news.

Dunno if anyone has mentioned this...

I was listening to Radio Scotland when Chick comes on and says he has been in a long interview with Murray and is giving it all the big licks about the money that will be invested and announced after the Villareal game. Aside from the statement that they would be buying top European players from top teams, not bosman or free transfer (so get it up ye Celtic undertones an all), Chick then says Murray wouldnt disclose any information on who the new manager would be, except that they are in advanced disxussions with him. Chick goes "I reckon it'l be Paul Le Guen", then rants on about this investment and signings again. To sum up his report he then says "so Murray is promising a multi million pounds transfer bugdet to the new manager, almost certain to be Paul Le Guen".

A sound argument if ever I heard one. His "almost certainty" is solely based on a hunch the ever clairvoyant Charles Young...

My tip for a long time has been that Eck will be replaced by Souness as Director of Football with Graeme Roberts working as head coach.

Neither of them would say no if offered and there have been stories for a while that the mint would like to try that route.

Todays announcement by Murray is nothig short of a badly timed publicity stunt.

He has told the support nothing they did not already know and he blabbed again about the major investment and naming the manager after Villareal.

Theinvestment presumably is the sale of his steel business (Paul67 can you clarify?). He also must fancy they are going to lose to Villareal and be out of Europe.

An egomaniac who wants the heat off of him before Sunday and does not care about the effect on his manager, team or support.

Now I know most of us wouldn't believe a thing that came out of Murray Mints mouth but the one statement regarding the supposed investment that does slightly worry me is:

"We'll announce it when it's appropriate. We've got to do it with other people, when they want to do it,"

If this statement has any truth in it (hopefully not) it suggests that the money will be coming from another source (i.e. advertising - selling the stadium name etc) and not from the sale of his steel business.

Lets face it, although no-one with any business acumen would touch Rankers FC with a barge pole at the moment, I'm sure there are more things that a "raised trouser leg, show of the nipple and a dodgy handshake" can get you than a copy of this years accounts!

    Dodgy dealing abound (again)

Guigsy - maybe he just means that the next manager is already under contract at another club (Motherwell, Clyde : one of the top dogs) and Murray doesn't want to unsettle anyone there?

Paul67 get your C.V. into Ipox A.S.A.P if you get the job we can start banking on your dominance theory:-).

Going back to the last blog, Keane gets himself and the ball forward quicker, bringing the rest of the mid-field with him. Our defence isn't IMO used to this, hence the gap between the back four and the mid-field last night. If WGS gets the defence moving up at the same time I'm confident things will tighten up all round.

Last night's performance was competent, another 3pts in the bag, with the other results a good night all round.

For Sunday I still think Lennon and Keane can be accomodated but it would have to be in a five man mid-field. Personally thats the way I would go 4-5-1, win the mid-field battle and I think they will collapse. As I have posted before their defence leaves a lot to be desired and is there for the taking.

Why has he made this announcement today? I just can't get my head round it.

The only benefit I can see is that it may prevent a minor riot if we beat them on Sunday. But if McLeish continues to struggle in the league, the fans will protest demanding that a manager who is already leaving should be replaced immediately. Third (or lower) in the SPL is disastrous for Rangers.

I wish to point out that Real Radio does not and never has condoned any form

Our Programme Director Jay Crawford was an invited guest to the First

take this issue extremely seriously and understand the problems.
As far as our Football Phone in is concerned whenever the topic does comes

regularly be involved in vigorous debate with callers and guests in the
quest for accuracy and fairness rather than with narrow mindedness which is
one the definitions for the word 'sectarian'.
At Real Radio we do hope that all the clubs, fans and media can work
together to see all points of view. That's why we have a nightly people's
forum supporting free speech and in the main feel that true football
followers in Scotland enjoy talking about the game, its issues and
    characters.
Judging by the huge numbers who have tuned in the make Real Radio,
Scotland's most listened to commercial radio station and also by the
enormous popularity of the Real Football phone in, since launch four years
ago this week, many people agree with this approach which is to entertain
and inform the communities it serves.
To conclude may I unreservedly confirm and point out that there is
definitely no bigoted hate campaign being conducted by Ewan or Real Radio

"We'll announce it when it's appropriate. We've got to do it with other people, when they want to do it," he added.

He refused to quantify the investment, but said: "Significant amounts of money will be coming into Rangers Football Club.

I have to say, the stories coming out tonight worry me slightly. Paul Le Guen and significant money is a frightening prospect. I know some of you are clearly confident it's not true, but there's no smoke without fire (well actually, that's not true in the world of Scottish football due to our esteemed media, but you know what I mean!).

Paul, do you have some reliable info that it's Roberts or did you just guess that it'll be someone like that as they have no cash?

I can't see Murray coming out and saying he has major investment and the new manager will have loads of cash if it's not true. Why would he do that? He'd just be leaving himself open for even greater abuse in 6 months time.

Not sure what this'll do for Sunday. Sometimes something like this can have a real positive effect, other times it can really floor a team. I suppose we'll have to wait till Sunday to find out!

In some respects, doesn't the shifting of all Rangers FC debts to MIH make this scenario more of a possibility as he could pass Rangers off as "debt free".

    Paul,

How solid is your Roberts story- is it a theory or based on inside info? Personally, I'd love to see Rangers going for Roberts, Butcher, Davies, the Beast etc- that kind of calibre of a manager is indicative of a club whose ambition and standing in the game is diminishing.

However, I have it on v good authority that LeGuen is seriously considering Murray's offer, and that Murray himself is confident he'll join (and he's giving a nod and a wink to every journo who asks at the moment as well).

If they get LeGuen and can offer him a bit of cash, then I would be seriously worried.

If they go for Roberts etc, then I think it's time for you to dust off your "generation of dominance" article again!

Other reason could be to dupe the fans until the season ticket money is in, then start back-pedalling about being let down etc. etc.

You have a very valid point Italiabhoy. Why build the Orcs' expectation levels? Why lead them in to believing Le Guen is coming, only to unveil Billy Davis or Roberts.

Mind you, in my other life I've had first hand experience of listening to egomaniacs like Ebbers, Skilling and Koslowski come out with all sorts of crap as their respective empires of Worldcom, Enron and Tyco collapsed around them.

As always, time will tell; but there's a lot of stuff going on a Mordor that doesn't make sense.

Kevins reply was that Rangers are an independent organisation and there fore this woulndt affect them. Is this true?

Murray has at least taken control of the media agenda. Last night fuelled by another game of two halfs (half rotten the other half worse) all the radio channels and this morning's papers were gunning for Eck (the players must wonder what they have to do attract the same level of abuse).

Now, and without question from any of his media lackys, the Mint has pulled a masterstroke (most of which he can't tell anybody about until after the Villareal game) and the sooks in the media are now lining up to kiss big Eck's behind and hail the 7 trophy wonder. Murray's line that Eck said in Jan that 4 1/2 years was long enough must rank as one of the most ludicrous statements ever uttered by the dignified one, like any manager would say that.

Still the Mint must be onto plan D or E now especially as he isn't going to be held to ransom by other clubs (Rae, Novo, The Georgian Diddy who's name I can't spell, Murray, Boyd.

Season tickets will be raining down onto the pitch on Sunday if we can get a clean sheet - no manager could survive that humiliation - clean sheet for us and big Eck may not survive to see the Champions League.

    D (for dignified) Murray - Plan F
Sack Eck, hope that Newcastle employ him to clear up after the beast and start selling quality product at inflated prices into England just like before. Has anybody calculated just how much cash the beast put Murray's way with all the players he bought from Rangers - stewards enquiry surely.

I don't think there is a Fan Fan story, just as I don't think there is a Fan Fan - Paul if nothing else this multi armed and legged myth has its place tonight amid the Mint and Eck agenda that has highjacked even this oasis of all things celtica

David Murray is renowned for his spinning of tales.

He is obviously giving information to his lapdog newspaper men that LeGuen is the man but remember his quotes of 8th December last year and his 'for every fiver. . . I'll spend a tenner'.

His empire is crumbling at his, ahem, feet, so much so that he is selling his main profit making business.

Good to see his enthusiasm is still there. Can't be all bad in the dressing room. I'd love him to get a cameo role on Sunday, score one, kill a few demons.

MoantheHoops - the caller was wrong, and unfortunately Keevins was right. The banks cannot demand that the any money is used to offset MIH debt, in exactly the same way that cannot force any of the profit making arm of MIH to divert those profits towards the debt rather be used eg to buy other companies.

This would only start to happen if the bank started to foreclose on the debts. And you never know, Murray might sell off other companies rahter than the Rangers , to meet his commitments.

For those concerned at David Murray's announcement, peruse these quotes from Dodgy Dave's interview with Ken Gallacher in June 2000.

    Sound familiar?

"The money involved, the biggest financial boost for any Scottish football club, will enable them to move into Europe's elite over the next few years."

Did I blink and miss it?

"The Ibrox chairman has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers' debt, currently sitting at around £40m, provide finance for the new training centre and the soccer academy which will be housed there, and still allow cash to invest in new players."

How many months does it take to ask your bank manager for a loan?

"The bulk of the rights issue is being taken up by myself and David King and some other smaller investors, including Alastair Johnston, who is a long-time Rangers supporter. We also have Trevor Hemmings coming in as an investor and Tom Hunter will join us some time in the future."

Tom Hunter - His name still cropping up six years on.Current total investment in Rangers?

"'Essentially, the investment we require is in place and we also have a major media deal in the pipeline which is very exciting and will bring in further serious investment to the club."

Another loan from NTL worth £20 million and shares in a company now worth the princely sum of £1 (equating to £15 million if it's Rangers accounts)

Let's not stop there.September 2004 announcing the new share issue.

"I have, however, consistently stressed that we will no longer be net spenders in the transfer market and the rights issue is not intended to generate surplus cash at this stage for investment in the playing squad."

Quite a leap from no longer being net spenders to significant sums being invested eighteen months later.A new off the cuff business plan perhaps?

December 2005.Murray meets the assembled masses to tell them who the next Rangers manager will be.

"Rangers chairman David Murray insists manager Alex McLeish was 'not even close' to leaving Ibrox."

    Two months later he's sacked.

Does anyone notice the thread running through all these announcements?

As for McLeish and finding it hard not to like him, don't get me started. As a Celtic supporter his "unsurpassed dignity" comment alone, with all of the underlying nuances in that statement was enough for me.Well that and he is/was manager of Rangers.

    What else do I need?

Lets remember they have had money in teh past and not done much with it and in reality you could argue they are more succesul in Europe this season than they have ever been without any money. Murray is doing no more than scrambling for time.

He blundered in December when the Rangers fans were baying for McLeish's blood; promised signings that never materialised; spent nothing in January (£200k paid for Boyd, £250k received for Thompson).

Catalogue of disasters all going back to the oneupmanship he displayed when buying Tore Andre Flo.

I firmly believe he has nothing up his sleeve and this is yet more of the same from Chairman Bluster.

    Sir Paul,

Well I watched the re-run of the Falkirk Stramash, not once but THREE TIMES, And the word, STRAMASH, was a very appropriate description... ALTERCATION being another.

    Falkirk's plan.....

Smash 'em... grab 'em... and if any get thro'... arm wrestle 'em to the ground!

    Worked magnificently, for a time.
Clips of the clash will be shown as Teasers, by my buddy Vince, for the opening of the WWF. in Detroit..... biznez will be Boffo!

The above description of the Falkirk defensive set-up,was the sole reason that Celtic only managed to add only TWO GOALS in the first half.

Celtic, if they had been allowed to continue their sparkling build-up, deeper into the Falkirk Territory, would have compiled the Proverbial.

The second half, continued in an even more blatant and "They shall not pass.......and we mean, by any means" attitude.

When Falkirk did score, in one of their very isolated breakaways......

The goal was well taken. And Boruc was entirely hung out to dry....
The LAST TEN MINUTES was a NAIL-BITER.....no QUESTION.....

But we managed to Hold on... and Defied all of the ensuing Falkirk pressure.......they could smell the fear......and we managed to claim victory in the end.

This display of nervousness by a Celtic Defense, whenever we are guarding a one Goal lead in the DYING MINUTES........is by no means a NEW PHENOMENON....... this type of Scenario was a familiar one... in the MON era as well!

So Get used to it,pals....... it is the Celtic WAY!

The latter minute Jitters, is mainly due to the attitude of the Celtic FANS...... it permeates the air...... and settles like a stifling cloak that envelopes the players........ and thereby paralyzes the Celtic TEAM....

Don't believe me?......... I remember MON, himself, remarking that the MOOD of the CROWD is SO, SO, IMPORTANT... It can and DOES, EFFECT THE CELTIC TEAM ON THE PITCH! It is a TWO EDGED WEAPON.... CROWD EBULLIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM, TRANSLATE TO CELTIC TEAM EBULLIENCE AND ENTHUSIASTIC PERFORMANCE......... Naturally a REVERSE CROWD ATMOSPHERE.......NEGATES Skillful TEAM PERFORMANCE.

    Meanwhile back at the RANCH...

I stand by my first impressions of the CELTIC INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES...

The Celtic Players were all excellent..... On viewing Mr. PETROV'S PERFORMANCE TWICE MORE.... I have upped my last night's considered opinion, and moved him upward ...... He was ALSO EXCELLENT!

I do not see any need to change ANY OF THE PERFORMERS.....

They played.......not well....BUT EXCEEDINGLY WELL....considering there were 5 Changes to the previous eleven.

And a SECOND GAME TOGETHER CAN ONLY ALLOW THEM TO GELL,thus CAN'T HOIT!

I say that in MR. WILSON........ Celtic have SOLVED THE LEFT BACK HEADACHE.....
    KEANO....what can I say! Super-duper!

The only change that I would make would be the possible insertion of BBJ. And that is solely PREDICATED on BBJ.'S past success in having an excellent average in scoring Goals, against the G.A......Not because I did not think that DIONO had a bad outing. As I have noted... He was EXCELLENT AS WELL...... A real FIND....He instills confidence and maturity, that is sorely needed at Times.

Naturally, if my suggestion is adopted by the Celtic Manager....... Mr. LENNON shall NOT START...

I said this before in my submission last night.

PAUL TELFER HAD THE BEST OUTING THAT HE HAS HAD, SO FAR.

The TRIANGULAR TRIO OF TELFER , KEANE and NAKA... was A VERY SUCCESSFUL ONE.....

They Linked up very well, and the INTER PLAY AMONG THE TRIO was at Times, a JOY.

    Hail! Hail!

    Kojo.

I don't think for a minute Le Guen willcome, nor do I believe that there is a major investment coming into Ibrox. The only way that this would happen, given the current value of Rankers is for a significant dissolution of the Mint's shareholding. I can't see that happening.

Even if Cameron, Young et als wettest dreams come true, why is nobody asking how this investment can be sustained. The whole team needs dumped and therefore needs an awful lot of money but how can they continue year on year without further investment. I have just seen the David Murray interview on the BBC website. I think he was drawn into saying a little more than he wanted to ..

Q: is it Paul Le Guen?
A: I'm not going to comment on that. The last time you interviewed me you gave me nine names & you never got it ....(impersonates Keith Richards at this point)

David Murray did not promote the 'Paul le Guen' theory in the BBC interview - the BBC did.

9:47 PM, St-Gris - agree. I find it very unlikely that any investor is prepared to invest a material amount of money in Rangers on an ‘as is’ basis. Therefore, the more obvious possibilities are

    1. The investment is to fund some or all of the ‘₤200m Hinshelwood masterplan'. (http://www.ofex.com/story.shtml?ISIN=GB0007237380&NewsID=21700). RFC received planning permission for this last September & although the casino part may be in doubt perhaps they plan to proceed with the rest anyway. Apart from reducing the interest on the overdraft I don’t see how this will benefit RFC in the short-term (the money will be used to develop the site, not the playing staff). This will probably generate significant extra income for Rangers over time.
2.Sell Ibrox & leaseback. This ‘Real Madrid flavoured deal’ could generate a big one-time profit if Ibrox is valued including the potential future profits of option 1.Murray is increasingly a property investor & MIH is debt-pregnant
3.Murray sells up. RFC will only benefit by the extra funds over & above that paid to Murray for his shares. Either he accepts a huge loss on his investment now or someone is prepared to pay an awful lot of money to secure control of the club (I doubt Murray would take less than ₤100m for his stake). This may be the case if a monied, informed someone believes Malcolm Glazer’s tarot card reading or sees huge future profits in option 1 above.
    4. 'Jack McWalker’ scenario (this may be required in option 3 also) – Edward U?

If TFOD wanted him so bdayly, surely they could have got a tiny advance on the "major investment". On the lead up to Christmas how many ordinary people max their credit cards/OD to pay off in the cold ligt of new year. While this International Brand of Dignity cannot go to the bank and sya any chance of an advance because we are getting all this money in the near future.

BFDJ stated last night that Hibs held out for £500k but at the last minute accepted the £400k only to be told by the Mint that he would not be held to ransom. You know they willingly peddle propagand but surely we can least expect them to construct sentences that make sense and don't regularly contradict themselves.

At the moment, Rangers are heading for either zero UEFA income or pennies from the UEFA Cup. That will deter most decent coaches/managers ... unless they attract very, very substantial investment.

Their team is poor, although I think that a decent manager and coaches, like MON and co., could easily improve their performance dramatically. Even with that, they need significant investment in players and will incur costs in moving on the dross. Remember July 2000 at CP?

But ... if you are a top coach, one who has options with Europe's biggest clubs, and you probably already have a healthy personal bank balance, why on earth would you sign up for a real uphill challenge at bigot-central?

Does today's announcement of "significant funds" tie in with not being held to ransom over transfer fees or paying said fees over three years? It seems at odds with it to me.

The men being mentioned on here tonight are businessmen who spend big to get a return. What will their return be at Rangers?Does anyone seriously think that if any of this came to pass, that it would be a philanthropic gesture on the part of these guys? "There you go David, spend my cash as you see fit".

Time to start applying a little logic here. There have been nudges and winks about new investment at Ibrox for over a year now.At each new low, rumours of a cash injection rear their head again. Now as things reach an all-time low,the story re-surfaces with a new adjective,"significant".Only time will tell if it is coincidence or not.

The mint has obviously been up to something for a while. The (ahem) Revaluation of Ipox, the share issue to "clear" the debt, etc. He's defintely up to something though I reckon there is a good bit of bluster involved - he certainly knows how to play the orcs and the laptop loyal!

Noel/Supercelt thanks for the link - Having now seen a replay of the 2nd goal I have to say I am even more impressed with the finishing of McManus' than last night - he clearly anticipates the flick kills the ball adeptly on his chest and clinically despatches it into the top corner - if it was Crespo the media would be raving

Last night Celtic had a strong spine and ribs for 80 mins - unlike recent matches the defence and midfield were moving across the pitch as a unit, the players interdigitated to prevent any through passes

Why did we struggle at the end? Nakamura was dead on his feet, Falkirk changed to 3 up front and we continued to press for a 3rd goal and left ourslves very vunerable to the break

WGS managed to generate an impressive change around from last week but he needs to be more decisive and pragmatic with his substitutions - why not on 75 mins, 2-0 up replace Nakamura with Pearson, Thompson for Majic and move Maloney up front

Still 3 points in the bag and an enjoyable evening of football

When Le Guen was being touted in the media to go to Mordor didn't Murray say the new manager was someone the media had NOT mentioned?

Billy Davies or Graeme Roberts then.

I also find Mcleish difficult to dislike - Roberts no problem though. I have compeletely missed the whole 'dignity' thing though -don't know what planet I was on.

BBC Scotland now fairly sure its Le Guen - so it must be then...

This rumour from a family friend who's allegiance is to all things blue but at present is very dejected with the govan power brokers - was at a posh do within the last 2 weeks, met Mr Bain, who was under fire from a few of the bears - Bain's comments were the hold off for the investment story (£120mil from an american source full stop) was to keep it to gazump our league triumph in the press within 24hrs of us clinching the title.

I offer nothing to confirm the veracity of the comments and was told this story on Tuesday from a dejected gers supporter stating he would not believe a word that came out of Dm/Mb's mouths. Then Alex cuts the cords on his parachute...

I have a feeling that this one has too much smoke not to have some fire.

My question would be and please enlighten me. Can a £120 mil investment go solely to their club ie pay their immediate debts and leave the rest to a war chest or does it have to travel through DM's grasp and debtors first?

He certainly knows how to play the media but the ridiculous thing is that if Rangers went bust, these are the same journalists who would fake mock surprise and question how Mr. Murray could have let this happen when there was never any indication that something was wrong.

I find the role of Chick Young in all of this laughable, especially as an employee of the BBC.As an institution funded by the licence-payer on the premise of impartial comment,I find their style of reporting sensationalistic and tabloidesque. This while employing the likes of Traynor(DR journalist) and Gordon Smith(agent) to provide balanced comment.

i doubt phillip green or tom hunter want to be a minority shareholder on a dodgu dave enterprise.......

my guess is he will have a manager who he can plausibly sell as someone who the fans would buy into...

that rules out roberts and billy davies.....it would be too big a job for gough and souness is soiled goods.......

my guess......maybe le guen....but if he comes it will have to be bankrolled heavily.........and the underlying business model does not support a spending spree such as happened under smith and advocaat....if you go out and spend £25 million on 8 new players....then you will add £12 million a year to the payroll......they cannott afford that on their turnover.....

the only massive investment will come if murray exits, and an abramovich character comes in.....even then it will be impossible to attract the best players to scotland...look at what happened the last time they were let loose in the candy store......they dominated against the kelly's and whites penury.....what top class players did they attract.....

butcher, stevens (x 2) woods, hateley....they only came because it was pre sky in england and the english were banned from europe....

gough and mccoll...scottish...if there is scottish gough out there just now he is pretty invisible....

gazza...6 good months in the spl....completely busted flush in europe....

laudrup.....an excellent buy.....however he was at a low ebb when they signed him....and he to never did it in europe for them...

so for them to get a group of top class players in will require abramovich type money......and that is not going to happen......

    summation.........(guess)

coach....curbishley.......budget £10 million for players.....poss another £15 million to reduce the debt......

source of this new wealth....no idea !!

the media will spin it as the second coming and predictions of a 4 horsemen of the apocalypse scenario for us.......which is fair enough...their job is to sell papers and attact advertising £'s....

one final point to paul67....missed the boat on the fan fan story.....it might give us a chuckle on here...but it will never see daylight in the media....they have a much bigger story to follow now......

pity.....but thats what happens when you play poker with a guy who deals the cards....

Am I correct in saying that David Murray told the world that after his December meeting with his manager that he looked into McLeish's eyes and asked then asked him, "Alec are you up the task, do you still have the drive and ambition to manage this club? can you still turn Glasgow Rangers round?

Alec answered, "Yes Chairman, I am up to the task, I can turn things around"

the chairman then said " I could tell from the look in his eyes that he was still up for the task.

he then went on to promise the new investment and three new players.

they then won remained unbeaten for the next ten games and right in the middle of a winning streak, the chairman and the manager meet again in January and decide to terminate his contract.

Why would you sack your manager in the middle of a winning run and before the most important month of the season?

And what of his players? they have no reason to play for a lame duck manager, and play as part of a failed team.

So what if it is Paul Le Guin? the man was at Lyon for ten years and had the last three as successful ones. Nobody haad heard, or took any notice of him for the first seven years.

So "Dagenham" Dave Murray says there shall be major invetment and hints heavily at Le Guenn being the next manager. Say he is the next incumbent at the hot seat in Snake Mountain.

Now say, perish the thought, the Margaret Thatcher XI beat us 10 nil on Sunday win every game they play from now on and win the league.

Will Dagenham Dave still go with a new manager? I would envisage the new man/woman coming in long before season end, any improvement in the side can be attributed to him. A further loss in form,if that is possible, can be laid at the door of one Cat In The Hat Eckmeister Esquire.

As to whom the next manager will be? I think the book of Revelations in the Bible makes note of a Beast rising when the FOURTH trumpet is sounded.

Or it could be Graham Roberts hee hee!

Craig Beattie (I was beginning to think he had died!) to return to full training in the next 2-3 weeks. Hopes to be available for selection for the CIS Cup Final. Very good news. An automatic choice at the very least for the matchday squad. Bringing him off the bench for Hartson (or vice versa) suddenly presents the opposition defence with a completely different set of problems.

Wanna Bru? ..don't think your far off the mark

Apologies to everyone for this but I've just watched the Mint's interview on Channel 431 (u know what it is), couldn't help myself

Now I didn't take notes but paraphrasing this is what was said...

Mint: we had a run of 10 games when we couldnt win , then 10 games undefeated.

Why then confirm that you had agreed with Eck in JANUARY that he was leaving? I thought he had turned it around????

Mint: The timing of the announcement is not how we planned it, but after 2 bad results something had to be said.

You make an agreement to sack the manager then wonder why you have had 2 bad results!!! Hmmm let me think about it.....

Mint: I was starting to take flak and thought that we needed to make an announcement

So, you saw the 'MURRAY OUT' banner at Pittodrie last night? You spineless tw*t.

Mint: I met with the supporters this week and showed them paperwork to prove we tried to sign 3 or 4 (??) top players.

It was Quashie (who wanted a 4 year deal and would have costs money for a transfer, so therfore was a no go) and Riordan (we offered fair money for a player who is on a free in 10-12 weeks)

Mint : We have major investment coming into the club that will bring an exciting ERA to R*ngers

    What, again !!!

The man is losing it big time.

    He is so desperate.

Ok, I wonder what Betfairs odds would be that the next major announcement is Murray Overboard from a Yacht rather than a major investment.

I have always compared him to Maxwell and nothing I have seen recently , tells me I am wrong

I know I shouldn't, but I almost feel sorry for Eck. Lucky or clever, the man has delivered for them. A damn site more than they should have had.

Murray is more than frightening, he is now appearing dangerous.

    They are buggered

    Welcome back Big Joe

RE Last night's match. Think we played well to a man. Telfer was trying to play balls into the corner wher Magic was making runs. Okay they didn't all come off, but it's no crime to give the ball away deep in your opponents third of the pitch.

I honestly thought the only poor pieces of play where:

    Magic's strange back-pass;
    Naka's made one poor cross-field pass which was too obvious and too easily intercepted;
    Not closing down Milne quickly enough before he scored;
Bobo made a bit of a howler, but I can't remember it clearly ... Damn you Mr & Mrs Artois

But for the denial of two pens we would have been cruising and the nervousness at the end wouldn't have appearred.

Can't wait for Sunday, I've had my U7s fixture brought forward and Mrs Corpachbhoy has let me buy the game from Setanta on my freeview box.

    thanks for providing the soap-box

One of the points I fail to understand is how some spectators clearly do not appreciate that a football match is only truly enjoyable when there remains some doubt about the outcome

Surely no-one really wants to watch a team that is completely dominant - for me a 2-1 scoreline with some fantastic episodes of play by the Hoops and a gritty but ultimately futile fightback is a perfect follow on from a couple of decent pints and a chat about the characters on CQN

I wish we could all start enjoying this season - 10/18 points clear, Nakamura - probably one of the most skilful player ever to grace the hoops - young Scots breaking through into the team - we should be on cloud 9

I have posted several times before about the poor home support and the fact that many continually get on the players back. You could feel the whole atmosphere change when Falkirk scored last night. I understand the reasons for the nervousness at this time but as you say it is not a new phenomenon.

A little bit of support at times like that would not go amiss. Howls of derision do not help.

Enough of this nonsense about Scotland 4th / 5th team they are of no real significance.

However I would like to pay tribute to Alan Thompson & Stan Varga who both showed real emotion in celebrating Roy Keane's first goal for the club. The delight in both players faces was a clear indication that all those who posted rumours about bust-ups behind the scenes were talking complete rubbish.

This can only augur well for the club with the harmony of the whole squadbeing important. Particularly as Gordon Strachan says he will pick horses for courses, so the entire squad will be used where suitable, which keeps everyone on their toes.

Another plus mark for the manager.
Not sure how Hearts will keep their squad hapy though but who cares about them. More of the same bhoys, build that lead up even more.

Someone actually mentioned Souness and Roberts working together. They hate each other's guts!

With regards to Telfer, he is still the defensive weak link who singularly fails to stop the opposition delivering dangerous balls into the box. Has Gary Irvine not returned to full training yet? Remember - Telfer was only brought in after the youngster got injured.

Whoever mentioned the Monopoly money for Sunday, pure genius and a brilliant wind-up.

I don't agree VertWolf (and others).

Celtic fans are very polarised at present. I believe I am one of the few who genuinely sit in the middle and am undecided about Stracan's credentials and performance to date.

In saying that, while I am pleased that we are 10 and 18 points ahead of Hearts and Rangers respectively, and have reached the final of the CIS Cup, this does not mean all is well and Strachan is doing a great job. By this reasoning McLeish is a better manager than O'Neill (same number of trophies over a shorter reign in charge).

Rangers have been staggeringly inept this season. Hearts have shot themselves in both feet. Motherwell were very unfortunate. These are the main reasons for our current position.

It is the equivalent of lowering the pass mark in an examination form 50% to 30%. We can agree to differ whether the satisfaction of passing O Grades was the same as passing Highers, but the problem is that next season the pass mark, in all likelihood, goes back to 50% and we will fail (or have a deferred success as I believe it is now called). I do not buy into this generation of domination theory. More importantly, the pass mark in Europe will remain at 70%.

We are in a good position at least as much despite as because of Strachan. This season's performances would under other circumstances have not been good enough. We all seemed to understand that McLeish did not become Mourinho because Scott McDonald scored a couple of goals thirty miles from where he was standing, but we seem to struggle when the roles are reversed.

I know from the Rangers fans I know that they increasingly believe that they are being lied to by Murray.

His bluster about investment and new managers isn't likely to cut much ice in the immediate term with the Rangers' support.Did suggestions of a new stadium in Cambuslang and new signings from the family dyansties appease the Celtic support? We know the answer.

I feel that he is now showing signs of pressure as you'd have to be mad to undermine your manager during of games similar to what they experienced in November.

Also, look at his statements to the media. In December he tells the hacks that he looked into the eyes of the Feckless one and knew he wanted to keep the job.One month later and he's telling the same hacks that Big Feck feels that four and a half years is long enough!!!

The biggest shame in all of this, although a well-established one,is that with the exception of a few journalists like Speirs,no-one is even remotely interested in taking him to task over these contradictions.

Despite this,I have a feeling that The Mint's biggest problems have yet to unfold.

That would be beeatchs in the 'street' vernacular for young lady of loose morals as opposed to what you're referring to. My personal favourite of those is obviously pinus sylvestris.

Paul67 - who'd have thought........ the Hugh Keevins of the internet (or blog). Roberts has as much chance of being the replacement as The Mint has of a job as pieman in the North Stand.

Alan Curbishley will be appointed in June and announced in 6 weeks.

Big pow-wow tonight, been a bit busy.

Welcome Hermes, email me direct at 1967@lisbonlions.com

    Investment at Ibrox:

David Murray is in negotiations to sell Murray International Metals for £120m, a division that made £22m profit last year. This is a division of MIH, as are Rangers. MIH had a debt of £556m at the last reporting date.

This money is needed by the group, taking this fact that is in the public domain and extrapolating player budget is not going to happen.

This info is fact, everything else you hear tonight is hyped speculation.

Rangers have been trying to squeeze every last penny out of the couch for some time. They are in dire financial straights.

They do not have a manager lined up at the moment (fact).

The possibility that they have done a deal with a top manager when they cannot afford the likes of Riordan, and have not got a funding package in place, and have no qualified for Europe next season does not exist.

David Murray in now buying time.

Fat Bhoy Slim, mark my words on Graham Roberts, he is the fabled 'Plan B'.
