Aberdeen go to Celtic Park as the form team in Scotland

A home game against Aberdeen, no problem right?

With 20 Celtic players on international duty this week, there will have been little time for preparation ahead of the Scottish Premier League game with Aberdeen tomorrow.

Aberdeen are the most improved team of 2006. They could not buy a win early in the season, but recent form compares with any team in the league – including Celtic.

They have lost only once in the league (Boxing Day at Fir Park) since their defeat to Celtic on 4 December, and have beaten Hearts, Hibs and Rangers in recent weeks.

Most of their players will have had the opportunity to rest and prepare for their visit to Celtic Park for two weeks now.

Expect them to be well organised, with a plan to leave Celtic Park with a victory for the third consecutive season.

4-1 and a continuation of Dunfermline form - so long as Majic is OK.

Seen the highlights of the Poland game last night. Boruc's flap, his poor decision making with crosses seems to be becoming a more prominent part his game:-(
He started off so well but the Celtic Park goalkeeper virus must have finally caught up with him, Hope he rids himself of it soon.

    Hi Paul,
In football terms and much as I hate to say it, I can't see anything other than a comfortable home win, however one question that remains to be answered and has puzzled me for some time. To all the more knowledgable fans on th site, do they really hate Rangers more than you? :-)

just having a look at the fixtures this week
is this the first time this season that either us or the current buns have not been the sunday game
and if so do we have any away fixtures this season that are on a saturday
is it because there is no interest in watching the cb's anymore and the tv companies have decided to televise hertz away games instead of them
    just a thought....

I would have to say YES!

While at Uni there was a female Aberdeen fan who was to say the least completely barking. Unfortunately I had the misfortune to meet her mother who went on to inform me of her views on TFOD, and then she came out with the most appaling comment I had ever heard, she went on to say "the best thing Paul Gascoigne could have been for his mum, was an abortion". Now this was coming from a woman well over 60, NUTS isnt the word!

Lovejoy's a legend - Artur Boruc undoubtedly makes mistakes but he has shown that he has the mental strength to recover from them & is a major reason why we'll go on & win silverware.

I think he will go on to be a truly world class keeper in the Grobelaar, Schmeichel, Canizares, Charbonnier, Rinat Dasseyev, Joel Bats, Buffon mould.

Ian Andrews, Allen McKnight,Carl Muggleton, Gordon Marshall, Rab Douglas, Stewart Kerr, Magnus Hedman & David Marshall unfortunately didn't possess this mindset.

Had Javier Broto been in goal in Seville, we would've won 2-0

I like your cautious approach, Paul. It`s true that Aberdeen have taken points from Celtic for the past 5 seasons and every time we were hot favourites. Hopefully the Bhoys can do it this time. 21 points to the title!

Here is a lot written about Boruc's mistake. What worries me too, the mistakes are the same kind. All are the same. Me and the others don't recognize him. We don't understand what's going on.
I read many articles about our keeper. We hope that's the bottom of his skills,it has to be only better. Much, much better. I'm sure he understands the question re. the future.Unfortunately many wrong things happened in a few days. Three or four serious mistakes in a Celtic games, stupid interview translation, bad mistake in a NT game.
If he's wise he will manage. I wonder how he does v. Aberdeen.

I agree, he is a good keeper, and it is the only part of his game that has been found wanting, but over the last few weeks it has been continuous.

As Varga said he seems to have the strength of character to bounce back from a mistake in a game, but the same mistake is being made in each game.

    Afternoon Gents

Really looking forward to the game tomorrow.

Aberdeen were unbeaten last month (and they played the William family twice) so they should give us a stern test..

Lets hope that we are at our best...

Due to Celtic not being in the Scottish cup we should have had more than enough time to prepare and should be reasonably fresh.

The big decision will be whether we see Naka make a reappearance at the cost of lenny.....

IMHO if Zurawski is struggling we should go for Maloney in a supporting role with BBJ, and stan, lenny, keane and Naka in midfield to drag them all over...

If we conceded against a very bad Dunfermline team we can concede against an in form Aberdeen team so we should SUPPORT the team for 90 MINUTES

Lets hope the fans are up for it......Make some noise for the bhoys!!!

    Edward,
Its a strange one isnt it.
I presume it all kicked off due to the durrent/simpson episode.

Whilst Celtic and Aberseen have had a very competitive rivalry for years they still seem to have a respect for each other. As much as one could hope for at any rate.

During Alex Ferguson dominant period Aberdeen were always coming to Celtic Park and beating us. However that didnt lead us to HATE them it only gave us a grudging respect for their ability.

(I just know I am openinmg up a can of worms here)

The bad relationship with Rangers is obviously not founded on cultural rivalry.

If I were to hazard a guess I would say that the 'we arra people' mentality that envelopes your support didnt take kindly to Aberdeen's dominance.

Therefor it was only a matter of time before the Rangers support would have a more tangible grudge to harbour and it duly arrived with Simpson and Durrant.

In Cetic Rangers matches things happen that are upsetting but we(and Rangers fans) generally move on. For instance the Lovenkrands diving episode, The sending off of Mahe, Okay its probably bias on my part,I am trying but cant think of ANY reason why you lot could have any grevience during an old firm match apart from maybe only having 1 legit Celtic goal ruled out per every 2 or 3 games rather than one every game. :-)

A question for you Ed, Can you or your pals remember any bad vibe between Rangers and Aberdeen pre Alex F?

    2-2 tomorrow if no Zurav

    4-0 if he plays.

We would have won the Uefa cup final 2-0 with Broto in goal? Is this assertion based on his 9 appearances for Celtic which included just 4 clean sheets, losing 2 goals at home to Hibs and 2 at home to Dundee?

All of the following have as much basis as your assertion:

If Bobo hadn't made a rash tackle we'd have gone to penalties.

If Henrik had been injured we'd have lost 2-0.

If O'Neill had done the same research on the referee as Mourinho we'd have been better prepared.

Big Rab made mistakes but we went as a team, we lost as a team.

Broto: Character, yes. Proven goalkeeper, no. Stick to beat Rab Douglas with, no.

    Hi Zbyszek,
enjoy your game today. Artur does seem to make the same mistake, is he taking his eye off the ball or just closing them?

  • At 03/03/06 13:45, Blogger dontbrattbackinanger said…

Over the past few years our keepers have been prone to two main kinds of mistake-failure to deal with crosses, and misjudgement of saveable shots from distance[outside the box].
For much of this time we have had specialised goalkeeping coaches of doubtful value,if the purpose of coaching is working to eliminate repetitive errors.

It's not making mistakes that's the problem-it's making the same mistake again and again.

What we need tomorrow is a home performance to match some of the excellent recent performances on the road.

Aberdeens general dislike for "them" changed to hatred about the time of the rise in soccer hooliganism. The Aberdeen Soccer Casuals (ASC) and the Rangers rabble/Headhunters were known to have a few ding-dongs. The Durrant/Simpson affair and the Rangers videos in the urinal in an Aberdeen club didn't help!

As well as the fact Casuals were interested in fashion and its pretty unfashionable to like Rangers ;0)

Broto was cup-tied for that game anyway.

    The choice was between:

Douglas: Capable of ordinariness, but also excellence (e.g. Valecia at the Mestalla)

    or

Hedman: "Ooooh, are we in a European final? Hello boss...remember me? I'm fit again now!" Worst 'keeper I have ever seen.

    Douglas was the only choice.

If I would have to describe Boruc I would say : good keeper but slightly screwy ( I'm not sure if I understand screwy word properly). In my opinion conceit sin is his ruin. Why he does the mistakes? Becouse he things he is a top class keeper. He will manage everywhere he is any every situation.
I didn't want to mention it in my previous posts, but I see it. Fortunately it's not a miss of competence which is worse. That's better for all of us.Sometimes one kick in a***s is a good cure for everybody. This has already happened to him. I'm sure it will be much better v. Aberdeen.
I saw him sad after the NT game standing if front of the camera he said: That was my mistake I should stay on the line. My mistake.

I've always loved the Aberdeen games. Even before I had a season ticket I'd always make sure I got to one of our home games against Aberdeen.

You would never say that we are best of friends with the Aberdeen fans but their feelings towards Rangers certainly make it one of the better atmospheres for a Celtic Park game.

I'd much rather be taunted with "We hate Rangers more than you." than "Hello Hello we are the Gorgie/Dundee/Killie (delete where appropriate) boys."

Artur is a very typical continental goalkeeper in a similar mould to Schmeichel (his hero), Francesco Toldo, Oliver Kahn etc.

These guys all make blunders and are possible worth 6/7 goals or whatever per season.

Their worth however is in the fantasticsaves they make at crucial times in matches. These are the skills that are natural and probably not learned - reflexes.

He has to learn to improve his decision making and if he does that you have someone world class.

Zybysek-.AB may be worried that if he continues to make mistakes it will cost him his place for Germany.

A big, strong goalkeeper like him shouldn't be staying on his line-he should be coming and claiming everything in the 6 yard box.

The problem is once doubts appear he is likely to make more mistakes, the crowd will get on his back and his confidence wil drop further.

Carrib04 It was asked in jest, but as you say it's a strange one. I can't remember any such intense animosity before Mr Ferguson went there, but it all seemed to snowball after the Simpson/Durrant episode, again quite strangely as worse tackles have happened. When I was attending all away games then Aberdeen was the place you were most likely to come home from with no bus windows, and at midnight in winter it makes the road back to Ayrshire a long long journey.

If my memory serves me right the pub/club opened up on the weekend of the Rankers v the dismals game....a bit of a media managed publicity stunt that went a bit pear shaped...

Recent highlights of the relationship was when Aberdeen fans were having conniptions about their new sponsorship deal with ADT...the colour scheme was the problem...

On the Boruc front...he is the best Keeper we have had for a long long time... He has a bit of the Transylvania about him in recent games but he saves a lot more than he gives away...

His weakness is he is too confident and thinks he can get everything...a weakness most keepers would like to have...
