If I'm first, do I have to make an acceptance speech, graciously thanking my competitors.
Or, will a simple Round Ye suffice?

Good result against well-organised, albeit negative opponents. Naka needs a spell on the bench. I'd like to see Riordan get a crack.

Looks like it's just me and you.
Keep using that Celticico- it'll catch on, I'm telling you.
What's the record for successive posts at the start of a thread?

just glad we won todAY
-
i would like to see riordan given a chance. i felt even though magic was quiet that the issue was naka and mcgeady not creating enough (albeit aberdeen did defend ridiculously deep)
i felt that Riordan from deep may have an effect.
All in all always happy with three points at pittodrie.

Re- Posted from previous thread.
Brilliant performances today from Tommy G and Aindeninho.
Posted missing (again) Nakamura and Magic.
Honourable mention to Kenny Miller who increased the pace of the play and ultimately created the winning goal.
I thought Gary Caldwell was immense today. You can only citicise Aberdeen for not creating chances for so long before you have to give the Celtic defense credit for winning crucial ariel challenges to prevent danger from being created. For me Caldwell excelled in this aspect of the game.
I think Kenny Miller has done enough today to ensure a starting slot at Old trafford. Magic has frankly been rank rotten since the season began and a spell on the bench is required.
I also think Nakamura needs to be dropped for Wednesday as he contributes almost nothing in a defensive capacity and on Wed night we will be on the back foot for long spells. I also think a spell out the team should follow for Naka when Maloney is fit. His form has been poor since the world cup.
All in all I'm happy with the showing today. A difficult away fixture. Good debut from TG and another goal from JVOH.
Also a word for the often criticised away support. It was noticable that the add-ons to the Maley song were not being sung and the bhoys gave the team great encouragment and created a great atmosphere despite the half empty home end.
Let the people sing.

I thought we got what we deserved form the match today. Aberdeen played with 11 behind the ball for the majority. We dominated for 90% of the game with great performances by Anderson and Diamond the only difference between more goals.
Tommy G looks like the player we know he is.
I'm glad Miller contributed to the game when he came on. If he gives us an assist in every game then i'll be happy.

P.s. JFH has just scored against Chelsea. 1-1

It was Lee Naylor who cleared off the line at the end. I thought he had a great game and I am eating my words over his signing. It would appear that his step up to Celtic has really revitalised him, although time will tell.

2 goals in 2 mins for KEANO's sunderland. Ross wallace with the 2nd.
Well done
TFOD 3 up. Boyd Penalty.
Can i confess that i've got that same score on predictor too. Sorry!!
-
I think its time for Riordan to have his chance, felt that Naka was not effective enough
-
Not surprising TFOD got a penalty.
Classic performance today form the Rev. McCurry .Two stonewall penalties and you'd have bet your mortgage on him flashing a yellow at TG(for nothing by the way).
If the challenge on JVOH had happened when Rangers were the visitors not only would a pen been given but Zander Diamond would have recieved a police caution for 'causing alarm' amongst the gibbering hordes.

Hm, 4-0 against Falkirk.
Here come the headlines.

Agree Riordan should be given a chance but we don't know how he is in training or his fitness levels etc. I know he didn't do to well for the reserves but that aside I'd like to see him play, don't see why he couldn't play up front.
For me the 1st picks up front have to be JVH and Miller, Zurawski may have popped in a few goals but his contribution hasn't been up to much.
Saying that we haven't really had the opportunity to get Riordan on, a nice wee 3 or 4 nothing lead would be nice with a half hour to go at some point in the next few weeks.
Jarosik must feel a bit left out at present along with Riordan, Pearson being picked in front of him. Maybe he'll get the message that a bit more energy is needed to succeed at this Celtic team.
Naylor has came into the squad under a bit of a cloud with regards his expected performences and has coped well. I like his style of play, very much like Wilsons and while I don't know if he is as good and certainly won't be in a few years time, he is a massive improvement to the 1st team. The defense is much more balanced with an actual left-back in there.
-
I'll never understand why Jim Jefferies gets these awards
It was the same last year when Chick Young was campaigning for him to be appointed manager of the year because he'd 'achieved so much with such a small budget'
Surely Hibs have a smaller budget, have achieved more, and play far more attractive football?
-
ENORMOUS GIRU HEARTS!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hearts 0-1 St Mirren is a great result.
How long before the Hearts coach is sacked?
Glad for wee Ross Wallace and Roy Keane if Sunderland hold on to win.
Barry Ferguson played the second half. I wonder if they had time to sew that pocket onto the back of his shorts — you know, the one in which he'll have every opposing midfielder this season. Aye, right.
-
Nice to see Newcastle beaten again. What a bunch of under achievers.

A fine 3 points today, as our new players would still be getting used to their new team mates, playing styles, formations etc. we will improve IMO but 3 points at Aberdeen is a good start. Now for Man-U, cant wait ……..honest.

We will need all hands on deck at Old Trafford this week, and consequently, I'd support those on here that are calling for Naka and Magic to take their seat on the bench. I still feel that on form Naka is a match winner, but I also feel that his contibution might well be in the last 30 minutes at Old Trafford.
Kenny Miller has had an unduly harsh time since his arrival at Parkhead. The old Strachan mantra of defending from the front has a human form in the shape of Kenny.
To build considered and damaging attacks from the back to the midfield and into the last third of the pitch, you need time on the ball. There is no way that anyone gets time to play the ball around the back four with Kenny Miller playing. Italy's back four will bear testimony to that.
I also agree with previous posters that we will have to roll with some pretty hefty punches against Man Utd, so we must combat their width with a five man midfield. I never thought I'd ever advocate a Celtic team playing with one up front, but I think that JVoH as the target man with KM and Aiden/Roirdan running off him would work well. Aiden seems to have gotten the message that he is required to put in a defensive shift in his area of the field, and is much the better for it.
With three contesting the middle of the field (Gravesen, Jarosik and A.N, Other) I think that this would help out the defence, which without Bobo might be a little soft in the centre. If Bobo is fit I would agree with Paul's suggestion of playing Caldwell in the midfield. If not, I think that it might be Evander Sno that has the basic qualities to contest this area. Whether is youth and slightly rough edges undermine his natural ability in this respect is uncertain. I don't think we'll see it though. I Don't think Strachan will start with Sno, but I think he'd be worth a place.
The full backs and GK of course, pick themselves. I think that if we contest the midfield properly, we might come away from Wednesday night with a wee spring in our step. Don't think we'll win it, but a draw is not an impossibility.
-
Rangers are the only unbeaten team in the SPL, but let's hope the real Hibs turn up against them next week and put a stop to that, so that it doesn't hurt quite as much when we give them a doing on 23 September.
Should results go our way next weekend, a win against Rangers on 23 September would put us seven points clear of them. Anyone who thinks the league will be over by easter is a pure mine-shaft pessimist.
There will be tinsel rather than ribbons on the league trophy this year.
For Man U, it's a classic case of Celtic being able to play our natural role of cheeky wee upstarts from the periphery of Glasgow, which I just love when it comes off.
I hope Celtic win on Wednesday, not least because it will silence the last Strachan doubters and win the wee man a place in club history.
It would also put the finishing touches to the task of turning this group of players into a team.
It would do our qualification prospects no harm either.
Nevertheless, at this level, for us at the moment, it really is the taking part that counts - and the money you get for turning up at the top table.
-
Pat Nevin on the bbc is saying that Rangers have a quality squad and will go far in the UEFA Cup.What a FUD!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Who knows what Rangers can achieve when they can beat such footballing giants like Falkirk so comphrehensively.
As soon as they get to the standard of Dundee Utd I think we may have problems.
ps. After all this talk of Paul Le Guen being a managerial messiah capable of attracting the biggest names to Rangers, isn't it interesting that Thomas Gravesen named Gordon Strachan as one of his reasons for joining?
-
I think the game against Rangers will be really interesting.
If it stays true to type, Rangers new Fancy Dan frangipani imports will say to themselves, "This is mental, I want my mammy."
Our new bhoys will say, "This is mental; I love it".
-
-
Regarding Pat Nevin's UEFA Cup comment, does anyone know whether Bardsley and Martin would be eligible to play in it? I was under the impression Rangers only had them till January
The problem with loan signings is you never really own them, and their 'real' club can call them back at any time
I honestly can't see where Rangers have strengthened.
-
Exiled high in the Dick Donald stand I had a perfect view of proceedings today. Gravesen is a real class act. Agressive but with no little skill and a beautiful passer of the ball. A great debut. Front two were quiet until the big man popped up with the winner. Much to do with Anderson's marshalling of the defence. He is a terrific player and too good for the Dons frankly.
Have to disagree with you re McGeady Paul. I think he frightened the hell out of the Aberdeen defence and was by far our most threatening player. The nature of his game means he will get caught with the ball on occasion. If it's in their half it's no problem. Kenny Miller did well when he came on. I'm not sure he will do it but the logical way to play against ManU is the Scotland blueprint with Kenny the lone striker and A.N. Other behind. He won't do it because when you pay £3.2 m for a striker with CL experience he can't leave him out. I think he should though.
All in all a decent if unspectacular perfomance. Aberdeen's home record speaks for itself. Rangers will struggle to leave here with points and when I go to see that one I will be able to get behind Aberdeen-my adopted second side.Had an enormous struggle biting my lip today when we scored.
It was interesting to hear some of the Dons fans around me speak about the Boruc blessing incident with the incredulousness it deserved. A decent bunch apart from the 'soap dodger' and slum nonsense which is a bit of fun really. They just might hate Rangers more than us as well. No question they know what they are:-Banner-"Bigotry sells jerseys doesn't it Mr Murray?" last season. No sign of it in the highlights mind despite it's prominent positioning in the DD stand....
-
Jack's right about McGeady for me.
I love the way he plays. He has obviously been told to shoot more often too, which can only help.
Plus, he's still only a bhoy. The best is yet to come for, and from, Aiden.
-
I'll back Aiden as well Paul-Aberdeen were putting 2 and 3 men on him-which was creating space for TG and others to run into.
I thought Mark Wilson was Man Of The Match though.
Haven't seen him have a bad game yet.
Zurawski and Nakamura are due their seats on the bench-Magic seem s lazy and Naka has the heart of a chicken.

Celtic First, loved the “tinsel” comment.
Exiledin.. Noel, agree Aiden frightened them today, but once he got into the box, he tried, and usually failed, to take another player on.
The easy ball back is seldom a headline catcher, but it is the right thing to do sometimes, as Kenny Miller proved today.

Three points up north is hardly ever easy - So we have to be pleased - having said that we were not quite right.
Thought Lennon had a great game - still going at the end when others were flagging - most notably Naka!
How was he still on the park at the end ? Lost the ball more than I have ever seen - wont do.
Defence still a worry - Full backs were fine - Centre backs not so fine .....under pressure we looked woeful!
Team for Old Trafford - Boruc - Wilson - Caldwell - Mick - Naylor - Miller - Jarosik - Lennon - Graveson - McGeady - BBJ.
Here`s Hoping and praying!

EDB
BTW do you remember Joe 90?
-
Just back from Pittodrie.
Whilst i am delighted with the result.
I am not happy with the overall performance.
boruc played well
Caldwell and McManus did well defensively.
Lennon was back to his old self.
good at closing down,he kept possession well, and fought for the cause.
Tommy G had a good debut.
Wilson, when asked to defend aerial balls is a concern.
Naylor is beaten far too easily for my liking.
He is first and foremeost a defender and i am concerened at this early stage about his ability to defend.
I forsee a torrid time for him on Wednesday.
Nakamura is good on the ball, and has a great fitba brain. When pressed ,he proves weak in the challenge ,far too often.
His second half contribution was almost non existent.
When we were under preessure he did not fully commit into challenges for me.He did this at a crucial point in Inverness also. He can be the prevebial Sh***bag.
Much the same can be said about Zurawski.Although i do believe that he is our best goal threat.
I would not have substituted him.
I would have removed Naka and put Miller on the right.
Greedy McGeady,says it all really.
The boy has oodles of skill, but lacks physical presence and a fitba brain such as Nakas.
He has not yet learned the most basic skill in fitba. The easy baw.
Miller is very industrious and i feel that he may be of benefit to us in the wider areas.
JVOH 1.30 games 2 goals.
My overall concern is that out build up is too slow.we do not get behind teams often enough and turn there defenders with cross ball's.
Until we can do this, we are far too predictable to play against.
I do not see a large chasm between ourselves and Rangers at this stage.
I am fearful about Wednesday.

Beating The Darnel is not a foregone conclusion in my book.
I think we will, given than Maloney and Bobo should be back.
Aiden has played relatively well so far this season, but he is not as direct as Maloney and doesn't score as many goals.
Bobo is our best defender.

tinytim's core point, that we need to move the ball quicker if we are to get behind opposition defences, is bang on IMO.

TinyTim:
Unlike El Diego, I have seen almost all of the Enemy's matches this season, or at least the ones that have been on TV. I like to watch and analyse their games, and their key players.
First, their defence: Terrible. Svennson does not look comfortable either against players who play the ball on the deck or against players who have a physical presence in the air.
So, the prospect of him against JVOH is one that excites me. Julien Rodriguez has not gotten better since last year. The abilities of their full-backs are such that they brought Phil Bardsley on loan; but the fact that Man Utd have been struggling at the back for the last couple of years and have spent millions on that area and yet are prepared to let him go out on loan - well, that is hardly a sparkling vote of confidence in him.
Bardsley, allegedly, played some good games for Man Utd in the Champions League. Rafael Scheidt allegedly played some good games for Brazil as well.
Mr Bardsley will get sorely tested when he and his brethren come to the party at Parkhead.
Rangers midfield: Better than last year - but that is hardly a soaring compliment. Lubo Sionko is too lightweight for Scottish football. I am unimpressed. Jeremy Clement lacks experience, as well as class. He was dreadful today, according to the radio. Barry Ferguson, on whom they place the bulk of their hopes, well unless he has learned how to make a forward run and a killer pass he is the same player as last year. Lee Martin, he of the big-talk and the high-hopes, thought we were awful at CP in the friendly, and we were. His confidence is based on our performance in a pre-season friendly, and he believes it is an indicator of how we will play in and Old Firm game!! He will find the Parkhead Experience a very different one when he visits next.
Up front? We start with Boyd. Lacks mobility. Does not work hard. Has no pace. Cut off the supply to this man and he will not work hard to win the ball. A decent man-marker and you will barely hear his name in a match. Sebo? Please ........... Who has seen this guy play? Nothing in his very sheltered life has prepared him for an Old Firm match. I gravely doubt he will play. Dado Prso is dangerous, as he has the work ethic Boyd lacks and he has mobility, albiet limited, and a good deal of CLASS.
He worries me. But we've played many games against Prso and come out of them with wins. If we do our job we don't need to be all too concerned about him.
We have weaknesses at the back - this is not news. But it is the ONLY area - central defence - where we are bad. Our midfield, which has plenty of class, now has steel. Our forward line has everything now and we can play numerous combinations from our options.
The size of the gulf in class is only a few short weeks from being revealed in full. Based on what I have seen so far, and PROVIDED WE USE HOME ADVANTAGE AND PLAY TO OUR CONSIDERABLE STRENGTHS, that gulf will make the Grand Canyon seem like a wee crack in the road.
Bring on the Rangers!!!
-
Noel90
Pick on somebody your own size.
I share your delight at being top of the league.
I want us to be far more convincing.
I'm sure if you asked Mr Strachan he would have much the same views as me.
Happy to be where we are, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
He will also not be taking The Darnel lightly.

Watching Man.Utd against Spurs on Sky (1-0 after 80mins).
Spurs have missed two real chances in the last 15 mins. Both came from crosses from the Spurs' left wing.

Interesting, Rubicon.
Who is playing at right-back for Man Utd today?
-
James Forrest
I sooo hope that you are correct.
One wee thing,if Fergie thinks that Bardsley is not good enough ,he would have sold him, not loaned him.
However, i do concur with the basis of your point, that the boy is no big shakes.

I think Roy Keane's comments in his Herald interview today put paid to any suggestions that Strachan is not a strong enough force in the dressing room.
For a guy like Keane to say such positive things about him says alot about Gordon.
I wasnt too sure of him at first but as time passes, everything he does and everything i hear about him makes me more confident.
-
Paul67,
I'm just back from Aberdeen, and trying to catch up with the comment's, but I cant help noticing that in you short article you've highlighted Mcgeady's name twice as doing thing's wrong.
IMO Mcgeady was one of our better players today, infact if your going to highlight players for there mistake's why not include the dreadfull Zurawski in your report, or Nakamura who i thought wasn't at his best today.
I thought Tommy Gravesen had an excellent debut, and also thought Caldwell was once again, superb.
-
Rubicon,i mentioned that we need to get crosses in and turn defenders.
You mentioned that crosses were hurting United.
I hope this is a an omen and that we can really hurt them.
I fear that Ronaldo and Giggs are far more likely to do this to us however.
-
Jackd
I was also at the match.
Naka and magic wwere both very poor.
McGeady had a decent first half.
I thought he held on to the ball far to long,on to many occassions in the second half.
Infact he was one of three who could have been hooked in the game for me.
Naka first,McGeady second and Magic third( only because he is a goal threat).
I think Pauls call on Aiden today was correct.
You may have a point that others also deserved some criticism.
-

What did Roy Keane say about Mr Strachan?
-
Man Utd won 1-0. They are clearly a fine team, full of talent. However, they were unimpressive today. I think Spurs deserved a point based on their play.
United, particular Ferdinand, frequently gave the ball away in their own half and were very lucky that Spurs failed to punish their mistakes.
I have been fearing the worst - about Wednesday- but if United play like this, well, you never know.

James Forrest

A great result for Celtic today when you take into consideration Aberdeen's defensive record and their tactics today. Bear in mind that Celtic were playing 3 new players, 2 of which were on international duty during the week and have not had a lot of time to get used to the other players.
One of the most important aspects about Celtic just now is the feel good factor and it's great to hear the very positive interview's from our new guys (which has replaced Stan's sulk).
I wish we had more time to get the new players settled in and for SM and BB back match fit. I fear the ManU game is coming too early but we have to remain optimistic.
It will be difficult for GS to pick the right players that will collect point from this game. No doubt the GS bashers are waiting for a Celtic slip up but we must give our manager our continued support for a job well done up till now.

I know Celtic supports of many nationalities and from a great diverse range of occupations. Engineers, Lawyers, Pipe Fitters, Teachers, Policemen (even SB), members of the Armed Forces, Company Directors, Brick Layers, CEO’s etc. etc. Most if not all have Republican music of one form or another in their music collections.
*excellent post in fact I had to go back to see if it was from James Forrest, I know it’s from a previous blog but the time zone changes only allow me to offer my comments now.
I'm an oul haun and can go back to when we sang the likes of Faith of our Fathers and Hail Glorious St. Patrick. I can also remember we had our own versions of follow follow and the sash, with verses such as “should we go to derry’s wall, ibrox park or the orange hall, up to our knees in orange blood we’ll follow on” and “it was green white and gold with the Pope on the fold the sash my father wore”. Wouldn’t say we were bigoted just parodying them, although the latter was stolen by the darnel from a Newfoundland composer’s song about “on St. Patrick’s Day I love to wear the hat my father wore”.
However, we moved on from that changing our repertoire. Traditionally we also looked forward to the first game of the season with the returning holiday makers from the mother country bringing over the latest hits from there. Merry Ploughboy, Seven Drunken Nights, Black Velvet Band etc, as long as it was Irish and not necessarily rebel we sung them and with pride too, as the song says "sure aren't we all Irish anyhow".
Well we thought we were even though I was born down Craft Street Alexandria, my mother in Milton Terrace Jamestown and my da down Quay Pen in Dumbarton although the latter's parents were from both sides of the border in Republican strongholds too boot. In saying that I never heard a rebel song in the house growing up or wore colours, that is until I went to that Republican bastion of St. Patrick's Dumbarton.
First song we were taught in music class was "oh come let us sing to the school of our youth", the school song, the second was "oh Paddy dear now do you hear the news that's going round", The Wearing of the Green, the former being written by the music teacher Jackie Pickup who hailed from the Presbyterian Vale and was of that ilk.
We were young Scots bhoys of Irish blood and there was no shame in singing songs of freedom of the land of our ancestors nor was there of wearing our school uniform of green and gold.
I can also recall sitting with my da on the oul Vale of Leven Celtic bus and they were singing songs like "oh Patsy Gallacher and Andy McAttee", “oh Jimy McGrory the Pride of Parkhead" "how much is that doggy in the window, the one that's like big John McPhail" etc. I can also recall hearing for the first time Sean South, I asked my da who that was and he thought it was Sean Fallon they were singing about.
As I said, all that changed when I went to Colditz up Cardross Road, Sean South, Roddy McCorley, Slievenamon and many more including the Soldiers Song, in Gaelic too.
The reason being I was now a paperboy and one of my first purchases, much to the consternation of my parents, was an LP called Songs of Freedom by Theresa Duffy. That followed in my hippie years with the Clancy Brothers although I must admit I was fonder of Robert Zimmerman by that time.
Through the years like most Celtic fhans of my generation we sung rebel songs going to and from Parkheid on various supporters busses and the Balloch to Brigton train well fuelled with mixtures of Merrydown and Lanny. We also sung them in the park too where be it the Sellick end or the Jungle, rebels songs and Celtic had been joined at birth. My greatest claim to fame was starting Sean South, which the whole ground picked up just after Stevie’s equalizer against Vojvodina.
As the years went on I had a healthy collection of rebels songs, also bought the top albums of the time Loving Spoonful, Beach Boys, Rod Stewart etc, even went to concerts that didnae include the Clancys or the Tones. Mr. Zimmerman in 1966 still the best ever even though the mindless numpties booed him, the man was a visionary and is today still America’s greatest living poet. Big fan of the Clancys tae reckons there’s nothing better than a good rebel song or more melancholy than a sad Irish ballad.
I eventually went out to the colonies however I was still singing away in various Irish bars (dear God this is starting to sound like the “Flight of Earls”) while enjoying returning to CP. Even during the years of despair we still sung away although “look on the bright side of life” was replacing some of our earlier favourites. Then came the wee Messiah from Croy via Montreal, with him came the SB, all seated stadium and BAB, nothing wrong with any of that but the atmosphere had drastically changed, it was listless although the away games were still cracking.
I had heard by this time that CFC now barred rebel songs, on my first visit over after hearing this I boarded the Renton bus on Bank Street outside of St. Marys. As soon as we were all on board the driver holding up a couple of tapes said, “Peatdiggers or Barleycorn boys”, can’t recall if it was firchill, swinecastle or mothersmell that day but as far as the Tims were concerned it was “Let the People Sing.
I still have a healthy collection of rebel cds but rarely play them, they are still heard in the house though but that’s Mrs. TT who plays them and she was born up the Peoples Republic of Brucehill so that explains that.
Celtic fhans have always sung Irish songs whether they be of the hymn, rebel or folk variety they are part of our heritage, part of why we were founded and what we represent, the underdog. Bob Kelly and the wee Bunnet championed that cause and our ancestry. As long as we remove the add ons and don’t display any signs of animosity, hate or anger, as long as they’re not in anyway classed as sectarian then long may we continue to sing “why did you do it, have you not the guts to say”.
Let UEFA dare to take on the mighty Celtic and “the fighting mad Irish, their faithful support”.

Cant be bothered typing in the whole article. Basically Keano says he hopes to use Gordon Strachan as a coaching confidante. He spoke warmly of the relationship he enjoyed with GS, 'He's an excellent guy and I hope that relationship will continue ... Gordon, Pendo (Pendrey) and the other staff were all absolutely brilliant to me. I'm sure I can keep in touch'.
So the interview basically shoots holes in a few wee stories that were doing the rounds on internet boards these rumours stated that Keane thought GS was a nobody, wasnt impressed with his man management or his tactics.

I think your team for Old Trafford is spot on.

Just one final, cold fact to complete my view of today's United match...Rooney wasn't playing.
-
I was just watching some of the Tommy Gravesen clips on YouTube. He is clearly a team player; this might explain why he did not get on well at Royal Madrid. Too many gigantic egos sharing the same jersey.
It is equally clear that there was not a whole lot of team spirit in that side. Watching him shouting at the superstars is funny. And he clearly is not shouting at them for lack of skill, but lack of effort. Woe to the players in our side who fall below his high standards.
I don't know who his first love is as a football club, but if he can bring an ounce of his passion, as well as his considerable skill, to bear in this team we will be telling our grandkids about seeing this guy play football.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LinI4fGqoI
This one is called "Gravesen The Best" - don't know if a certain song is the soundtrack, because I have the sound switched off.
Man, this guy can play. He's also not shy. If Barry Ferguson is NOT having sleepless nights, it's only because he's been battering down the uppers to get fit.
But I think he will end up with nightmares about the Big G.
-
Did I post the wrong one???

jackd, I had no intention to run through the team listing poor performances.
McGeady was the creative player most on the ball today, as he has been all season. He needs to know when to release the ball, or play the easy ball (as TT pointed out).
He is never beaten by the first defender, it is usually the third or fourth, once you have pulled one defender out of place, you have created space elsewhere.
Aiden needs to use that space, having drawn a second defender he does not need to beat him.
There is a theme running through our common views that Celtic are slow to expliot possession and create chances. This is valid; moving the ball forward/into space quickly after drawing a defender is how to fix this.
For the record, I have given Nakamura a hard time twice this season.
NBNC, 7:50, you are spot on about some on the Internet using any excuse to have a go at Gordon Strachan, even his excellent relationship with Roy Keane.
-
James Forrest
I concur with your views re Rangers, particularly Prso i watched the killie game last week and thought hev ran the show . He made both Boyd`s goals and generally was responsible for all their good play (such as there was), we must keep him quiet.Regarding Ferguson ,he has a habit of choking in old firm games at CP,TG will play him off the park.

You'd think that with both Keane and Strachan being ultimate professionals and hard trainers that people would have realised they'd see eye to eye in most situations.

I noticed that 3 of Rangers goals were scored by Bardsley, Boyd and Buffel, and that Burke was booked.
Does it not seem to you that there are a lot of B's at Ibrox?
-
paul67
I thought McGeady was often looking for a runner to lay the ball off to when he was in possession in their box . My thought is that the strikers left him with little option at times but to try to beat another man, I don`t think they had enough movement

It's not a case of Aiden not knowing what too do around the second man.

You suggested that Man U had not sold Bardsley, and simply loaned him, implying therefore they must believe he could still make it.
Perhaps only Rangers were interested & we know they were not for spending cash on signinig anyone !
Those giving their views on the game on the previous blog :
I thought it was Hatley and brown I was reading, given how negative some of you were about Celtic and their performance.
A few of you should read again and be ashamed given what Celtic had to break down in one of our harder away ties after virtually no time preparing as a unit !
This was a really great result today, and a very solid performance, all things considered. Under MON we would be talking of this as the kind of performance that wins league titles, not 'oh dear how Man U are going to thrash us'. They might, but I sure as hell hope none of the negative crowd has a ticket to see it. I want to be with 8000 or so Celtic fans who believe we CAN win.

I was talking with a mate of mine about the Scotland international at Celtic Park last week. He is a Falkirk supporter and a tartan army diehard who had not been a Celtic Park since it was completed. He was blown away by the atmosphere that was generatd in the ground. According to him the structure of the ground is so far ahead of Hampden that he was of the view thta it was a pity that Celtic Park could not be used for all internationals. He is a realist and knows this will never happen but he intends lobbying the SFA to use Celtic Park for games where the pressure has to be piled on the visitors.

Evening Folks,
Just home from the game which i feel we deserved the 3 points if hard fought towards the end.
1st half i thought we were great and only missed the killer pass, the weakest aberdeen i've seen up there since the 5-0 5-1 regular battering days.
Graveson - OUTSTANDING, can anyone take the ball off this man?
McManus/Cauldwell - SUPERB, i hope the doubters are now feeling a bit more optimistic about old trafford?
The game should've been finished in the first 45, however, we didn't punish the poor opposition.
2nd half was a different game, they cam into it more, although without troubling the defensive pair, who as i say were superb.
Kenny Miller came on and showed exactly what he can provide, i think this boy could be the difference between qualifying for the 2nd stage of the champ lg (ie. away points as showed on Wed night for Scotland).
I've still not seen the goal on tv, but at the match it seemed a bit of a gift, don't know what the keeper was playing at, Sorry if i'm wrong and it was a peach!
Only chance they had was from a corner near the end off the bar (i think, was it?) which can only be expected 1 up away from home in injury time.
Anyway the heads are up, and lets see what happens on Wednesday, a draw would be a great result, here's hoping.
HAIL HAIL!!
As the bhoys were signing today to the tune of a Johnny Cash tune i think.....
Paul le guen's gonnae win f*** all!!!!

Just read through the comments form early this evening.
Here was me thinking that most of the sociopaths who made reading this blog such a miserable experience during most of August were trapped in a mineshaft.
Wishful thinking.
Anyway, I always like to play devils advocate so with that in mind......
Would TG received such accalim if the game had been a nil-nil draw after electing to shoot in the 73rd minute when he could have put three of his team mates (one on his right and two on his left)clean through on goal?
In his interviews yesterday I was struck by how much he emphasisied his willingness to be a team player.
On a couple of occasions today I think he went for the glory of a debut goal rather than playing what could be termed "the simple ball".
Going back to my point from earlier today about the defense only being called upon for ten minutes at the end of the game....
Who was supposed to have been marking Russell Anderson?
Anyone notice Caldwell sky the ball 300 feet straight up in to the air in what was reminisent of school blaise clearence?
What about the McManus header to Naylor, which put the latter under pressure and forced him to give away a free kick and receive a booking?
From the ensuing free kick, did anyone notice the guy on the left hand side of our wall peel off before the ball was struck, thereby giving the Aberdeen player a direct route to Pan Boruc's near post?
This all happened in the space of eight minutes.
Believe it or not, I thought today was an excellent three points and it is results like these that wins leagues.
I prefer to air my concerns when things are going well, rather than jump on bandwagons of gloom when things go against us.
-
chico
I watched it on Tv and would say the Aberdeen keeper is not he main culprit. Their right back Hart let JVOH peel away from McGeady and by the time he realised and tried to close him down, he only succeeded in deflecting the ball so his keeper was covering the wrong line. Tango Man seems to agree with me as he subbed Hart shortly afterwards.
I never heard the Le Guen song on TV but it seems to me it might fit to the tune of Ring of Fire.
-
Well GM i wouldn't like to hear you when we lose if that's your post on an 'excellent three points'!!

I thought we did pretty well today, winning is the most important thing.at times aberdeen were playing 3-6-1, i am sure if they attacked us from the start we would of humped them.i hope the boss notices it soon that Naka will not do at away games, am sure that Shaun will take his place for away games.just want to had that i enjoyed James F anaylsis of the cream buns, he was spot on.

Sorry not to get back to you.
You know it finished 2-1 to Bayern but St Pauli had a real go at them in ET. Bayern were down to 10 men, but this was equalised by a sending off in the last minute of a St P player.
Fans were really great, for St P. Great to see packed terraces. A couple of YNWA clearly heard, and at least 3 Hooped fans in evidence. A fair few Green and White scarves too.
Really felt for the St Pauli team and fans as there is a 2 division gulf. Must go to a game there sometime though, it looks great.
-
Haven't had a chance yet to check the previous blog, but totally agree with ExiledinAberdeenTim about Russell Anderson.
I'm going to OT on Wednesday and would feel a lot less nervous if he was in our back line. Some great last gasp tackles, which is what we will need when Rooney and Giggs are running at our defence.
Help ma boab!
Well impressed with TG considering he's not had much match practise. Wonderful balance and change of feet makes him very hard to knock off the ball - unlike Naka!
Lenny was pretty solid today as well and he will need to give a lot of cover to the two CB's on Wednesday night.

Shame about the result. I've met a couple of St. Pauli guys at our game in Munich. would be great to see one of their games.

Albert Lee is a great guitarist but might disappoint the Kerrang crew as he's gone country recently and I last saw him with Emmylou Harris. He's a fast picker but more of a team player in a band than a guitar virtuoso.
The Song for Suzie track is from his days with Heads Hands and Feet who also included Chas Hodges of Chas & Dave infamy) so further credibility lost there. I would suggest his sublime guitar solo could be used as an accompaniement for the same purpose as Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing and Let's Get it On. Of course , as it's only a couple of minutes long, I have to put it on a loop to repeat around a dozen times.
Don't know if he played with Skynard (old or new) but he's guested with a few bands as he's highly thought of.
-
Noel - any clips of Aidan against AC Milan at CP? He had the big Argentinian turning in circles that night.
The Miller clip - we were awesome that night against Lyon, but we played better when Miller came on. We really played the Celtic way when he was in the side. I was totally gutted when he agreed to join ManU and he knows now what we knew then. He should have stayed and become one of the main players in our side. I would never label him a Judas, as he doesn't even come remotely close to HIM.
Getting a result on Wednesday will feel like a little bit of payback.

I remember going to Seville and thinking that at last I was going to see a celebration to beat it...
Italy were a wonderful team, under-rated I think. They had wonderful attackers- Rossi, Conti, and Altobelli, and they had a real tactical nous. They also had a bit of luck in surviving the group stages.

I'm relying on this being correct
'Large reductions in season-ticket renewals across Serie A suggest that, of the summer's two seismic football events - the match-fixing scandal and the World Cup victory - it is the former which made the more profound impact on fans'

I think season ticket sales in Italy aint exactly massive anyway. Even at the 80,000 capacity San Siro, Milan and Inter only get about 35,000 - 40,000 season ticket holders. You can go over there most weekends and pick up a ticket.
Noel
Serie A starts this weekend. First games were tonight.

What'd a tell ya?
JVofH and Tommy G made the difference today, and will make the difference in the Championship race. As Paul says, "This is a game Celtic would have dropped points in a month ago, before Vennegoor of Hesselink and Gravesen joined the club." We looked good today, and although they won 4-0(at home!) to (a poor) Falkirk today, I am not worried.
Think of their players: Bardsley, Clement, Bazza, Burke, Martin, Prso, Boyd.
Compare that to: Boruc, Balde, Wilson, Naka, Maloney, Jiri, Tommy G, McGeady, Del Bhoy, Magic, Miller and JVofH
Which of these people would you rather have on your side?

Also, I read in a Spanish newspaper that Juve had decided Alessandro Del Piero must stay at the club to lead it on the field, to help promote its image, and to help get it back into Serie A. Is this true?
Seems a bit unfair on Del Piero, if the rest are allowed to walk away.

I'm away to my bed.

Ye're right, Italy were well beaten by France on Wednesday. From talking to my Italian friends the theory seems to be that Donadoni has been installed as some sort of "holding" coach until someone like Capello or Ancelotti becomes available.

Unlike Martinobhoy etc I'm not a big fan of Italian football.
My main interest after Celtic and the SPL is the Spanish league. You have shown many times you know much more about that league than me.
I'm suprised that Juve have kept so many stars. Also surprised they have signed our old friend Boumsong. Watching on Eurosport today and he almost handed the game to Rimini
