Off to watch the first half.

Just wanted to mention 2 things from last thread;-

Paul- loved the Celticico tag - if you invented it , give us the prronunciation.

Kitalba- a very reasonable appeal for some forms of self censorship. I can go along with some of what you say. Still puzzled by UEFA's depiction of "pro-republican" chants. I don't think that's very carefully chosen or legally watertight nor is it the opposite offence to Ranger's sectarian chants. Clarification is needed from both our club and UEFA.

20 mins. Gravesen just won the ball in the middle of the park, collected a bad ball from McGeady and made a chance for himself.

Celtic have had most of the ball but are still looking for cohesion. Gravesen and Vennegoor of Hesselink both look good on the ball.

So far so good. Celtic are getting better the longer the game goes on. Naka is playing in the middle, both Jan and Thomas look in the mood.

Curly posted that the aberdeen fans he met last night were confident about today's game. Were they wearing black and carrying whistles, Curly?

The penalty award was just one of a string of mistakes, Lee Miller was allowed to get a shot in when he was clearly off side and there have been 3 bizarre throw ins awarded against Celtic.

    Come on the Celtic-iko's

    HT Aberdeen 0-0 Celtic

Not a great game - both teams playing well defensively and keeping scoring chances down. Not sure either keeper has had a save to make.

JVoH and Magic not getting much in the way of service - we might see KM on there in 2nd half to give us some extra pace up front.

Aberdeen have nothing up front and seem to be looking to contain Celtic and try and sneak a goal

    Boruc - Nothing to do
    Naylor - Steady
Mick - Needs to stop punting the ball up the park - otherwise steady
Caldwell - One slip early in game but playing well
Wilson - Not put under pressure - could be giving us more going forward (As could Naylor)
Aiden - In and out of game but working harder than anyone else
Lennon - Always good use of the ball
Graveson - Great 1st half hour and then went a bit quiet
Maka - Needs to do better. Has had a tendency to get dispossesed too easily in last couple of games
JVoH - Not getting much service and finding it hard to find space in the box
Magic - Needs to get into wider positions and work harder

Need to step up a gear on second half or this is going to run out 0-0

3 points is 3 points, but we were severly lacking in the guile needed to open up Aberdeen. As for Aberdeen, if they always play like that they will not win any games. They might not lose many either but they will be dire to watch. As I said, they deserved to lose they played a cowards game.

A hard fought 3 points. Given that we were the only team looking to win the game, Aberdeen got what they deserved. A poor performance considering they were at home.

Celtic worked hard to a man but struggled to create chances. The goal was no more than a half chance but that's what you get when you pay big bucks for a proven goal scorer. Well done to Kenny Miller for getting into the think of it and creating the opportunity for JVoH.

We are going to need to improve substantially on Wednesday - no reason why we can't by taking encouragement from getting 3 points in Aberdeen.

Good debut by TG - he is going to make a big difference to our play.

I'm well pleased at the performance and the result.

Celtic were going for it non-stop. Nakamura started better than McGeady, then fell away as McGeady's game picked up.

Nobody's claiming it was great but it was the best of our 3 away performances so far because we attacked more. We had a stonewall penalty in the first half but Mcgeady was crowded out legitimately in the 2nd- no pen. It would also have been harsh to award a pen. against Naylor when he headed off the bar and it dropped on to his arm- no intentional movement.

While overall tactics were reasonable, I share other poster's surprise at Naka lasting 90 mins. In an away fixture especially with that performance, and I am a fan of his play.

We're back on track with the points accumulation I asked for after the Hearts defeat. We're not yet there with performance but, what the hell, it's only Man U next.

Agreed. Excellent resu;t. Setanta saying we "ground it out." Bull. Aberdeed defended with eleven behind the ball for most of the game and never tested Boruc until late.

We never looked in any trouble in this one until that bit at the end, but I would disagree to an extent about shocking defending. Our man on the line (Naylor) did his bit, our man on the post (McManus) did his. In fact, the ball fell BEHIND McManus and he did not panic. He very calmly brought it down and hooked it away.

No fears here about the future of this team. Once the forward line has a chance to gell they will run riot. Setanta also said that Lennon was annonymous. Say rather than Gravesen did much of the work Lenny usually does

Gravesen looks like a class act. Anyone who thinks he will not score goals a la Petrov should think again. He will score plenty. His workrate is tremendous.

He's on TV right now. "This team gives me everything I've ever wanted." He thanked the fans for the reception. Said he just wants to fit into the team.

Gravesen wins Man of The Match.

    JVOH gives him the champers.

There will be plenty more of it before the season ends.

not a good game. Naka looks like he doesn't want to play with SPL teams, he's not that gay from last season. I'm little disappointed with JVoH today. He has scored a great goal but too many times he looses the ball (especially in air) and his passing isn't good. But he's a strong player and we need him up front.

Kenny Miller and Maciej Zurawski both play indifferently. Magic runs a lot but he's not geeting much service, His first touch was terrible today. Kenny looks better after NT games but still he's not as good at Celtic as he is in NT. He's trying too hard.

I'm impressed with Thomas Gravesen play. He looks great but sometimes he played selfish :-) Lenny had a descent game but I would rather go with Jarosik/Gravesen than Lenny/Gravesen.

Oh! I almost forget! the referee was terrible! 2 pens at least. But who cares? We've got 3 points.

Good result - a goal always changes the game & at 0-0 Aberdeen were always going to stick to their game plan. Given that TG & Jan haven't had more than a few hours to train with their new teammates I thought both were excellent (although TG will be the first to say that on two occasions he could hve played teammates in instead of shooting). Jan has just scored two important goals for us - a happy knack. Naka looked out of sorts to me. Quick suggestion to Gordon - we need someone on the edge of the opposition penalty area for all dead-ball situations, unbelievable how often the ball dropped into that area today.

The comments on Naka are not entirely fair. He started very well and looked every bit the match-winner.

He was picking things up and on one occasion had a great chance, but it broke on his right foot and he chose not to shoot from 18 yards. If it had been on his left I bet he'd have scored. He should have gone for it anyway.

Aberdeen's first shot on goal, blocked 12 yards out, came on 74 minutes. Their fans must be very disappointed in them.

To be fair to Jimmy C, not that I'm a fan, he has gone for it against us in the past and had a real doing. Today, they obviously wanted a point and played for 0-0.

He'll be dropping out the side when Maloney comes back if he doesn't buck up his ideas.

Lenny and Gravesen doesn't work - not that the styles don't work just that Lennon isn't working in the midfield. Too slow and offers nothing at all offensively, I mean he's always been slow but it's getting dangerous how slow he has become. Against top teams we will be punished yet we need someone like him to play againstgood attacking sides.

Hope he gets his second wind as we don't really have another player like him that is 100% ready to come into the 1st team.

All the same, you could see it wasn't going to work out for Naka today so i thought it would have been a good idea to bring on Riordan for him and move Mcgeady onto the right.

Gravesen had a great debut but he could have set up McGeady and Miller for a goal today but took a shot instead, he didn't see McGeady though. This isn't a critism of him, when he gets to know his team mates he'll see them and things will be looking even more greener.

The other lot will not pick up 3 points at Pittodrie, cause the reds dont lie down to them.
For Wednesday we should be playing 4-5-1 with Miller siitting behind Jan and making diagonal thrusts into Man U's defence.

I do not need to tell you,my friend...that I have been scathingly critical of Mr. Miller's Past performances.....

Nevertheless, We are not altogether wedded, to that damning opinion..... We are quite capable of encouraging and congratulating a player, whom we deem to be is putting on a pleasing show....

Mr. Miller, in our not so humble opinion...... Won the Game, with his chasing down the ball and providing the telling pass.....to Jayvoh!

If Mr. Miller's sole role, in slotting into the attack, is to be one of a PROVIDER...instead of a Striker........ THEN I CAN ASSURE YOU..... if he repeats what He has done today...... WE WILL BE WELL PLEASED.......We can certainly live with a type of player that Mr. Miller is beginning to show us that he is........

Our previous opinion of Mr. Miller was based on his being SOLELY A STRIKER...... now our eyes have been opened....albeit, Belatedly, to Mr. Miller's true role in the team's attacking formation.

It looks to us that Mr.Miller can/could be the missing piece in the Jigsaw, that we have been searching for.

He can set 'em up.....and Jayvoh and possibly Mr. Clean, as well... can certainly ...knock 'em in!

    Sounds good to me?

Brilliant performances today from Tommy G and Aindeninho.

Posted missing (again) Nakamura and Magic.

Honourable mention to Kenny Miller who increased the pace of the play and ultimately created the winning goal.

I thought Gary Caldwell was immense today. You can only citicise Aberdeen for not creating chances for so long before you have to give the Celtic defense credit for winning crucial ariel challenges to prevent danger from being created. For me Caldwell excelled in this aspect of the game.

I think Kenny Miller has done enough today to ensure a starting slot at Old trafford. Magic has frankly been rank rotten since the season began and a spell on the bench is required.

I also think Nakamura needs to be dropped for Wednesday as he contributes almost nothing in a defensive capacity and on Wed night we will be on the back foot for long spells. I also think a spell out the team should follow for Naka when Maloney is fit. His form has been poor since the world cup.

All in all I'm happy with the showing today. A difficult away fixture. Good debut from TG and another goal from JVOH.

Also a word for the often criticised away support. It was noticable that the add-ons to the Maley song were not being sung and the bhoys gave the team great encouragment and created a great atmosphere despite the half empty home end.

    Let the people sing.

    Mick
