For all you fat bhoys, try this.
Drunken bet leads student to season-long pledge to eat, sleep and drink Celtic soccer
Soccer-mad Scott Campbell is taking loyalty to a new extreme by pledging only to eat food in the colours of his team, Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, for the entire season. The 20-year-old university student was challenged by friends on a drunken night out to allow only green and white food to pass his lips and took up the bet with relish. Campbell has enlisted the help Heinz to help him stay the course, as he admits the "blandness of vegetables" was getting him down. They obliged with a six-month supply of salad dressings. "In the morning I'll have just apples and I'm also allowed bananas because the inside of them is white, and a glass of milk," he told. "For lunch, I just have a salad and at night I'll have fish or a chicken dish. It's been a struggle but it is a healthy option and I've lost a bit of weight."
-
Its says he took up the bet with relish!, isnt that cheating??
-
JackD and The Rev,
Theodore IS Teddy Bjarnason, one of 2 Iceland under 19s we have, the other being Kjartan Finbogasson.
Teddy is a cracker and I would expect him up in the senior team any day now.

This inflation could be good news for us as we have 2 thriving assets imo.
Maloney and McGeady.
Yes, we need to keep our best players but we need to sell at the right time and then spot other cheaper alternatives, capatilise on the bosman ruling (say someone like Piennar on a free) and continue to bring through other youngsters.
£5m for each of the above players from big spending Premiership clubs next season would suit me fine.
Part of our strategy should be the dedicated sale of home grown players each season.
Ajax are the model for me that we should follow.
We can still compete and fullfil our ambitions as well.

Curly, Dharma Loved the chat.
"Bald is the new black" been telling my bro Evil that for years.
Can't say I feel the cold myself on my head whereas Senior Baldy still prefers to utilise the Bobby Charlton Sweepover a'la Homer to try and stop those UV rays or winter chills.
Right am signing off now for the week as I'm off to make 'Mrs-to-be-baldy', Mrs baldy' on Saturday. Hence missing the match and forever suffering the wrath of Evil Rhum as a consequence. He being an usher and going to have to make an impression of a stick in a kilt.

Hi Paul,
You may well be right when you speak of a period of inflation I was taken by surprise at the prices you have received for some of your players recently though perhaps a Souness like intervention from the present A.V manager helped slightly :-) It's a two edged sword though, it applies equally to players you may find yourself chasing in the future and despite this boards fiscal prudence may have to end up paying over the top prices when buying. Another possible setback (a three edged sword?) is that the bubble bursts you then find that a policy which has been sustaining your team for a while crashes and you can be left with a raft of overpriced overpaid players whom you can't shift on. I'm sure most of you will be familiar with that scenario from a club on the other side of the city.
-
You are correct, Paul67, Seville does count for next year's ranking.
But Celtic need a good run in Europe this and next in order to ensure that we can keep out Pot 2 status. Should this be a higher priority than winning the league?
-
Paul - all the more reason to avoid the English transfer market. The crazy money that is on offer from Sky will see ludicrous sums being spent across their top two divisions, mostly on mediocre product. However, few (if any)other countries have anything similar to the Sky money sloshing around and I can envisage a period of stagnation rather than inflation affecting most leagues over the coming years. Lots of loan deals and player swaps as well as sensible transfer fees.
My gut feeling is that football is approaching market saturation point in terms of TV coverage and the product on offer is less than compelling. I wonder how many people really tune in to watch Bolton play Portsmouth on a Sunday afternoon? I have long stopped watching the majority of football on offer - the sheer quantity and lack of quality drove me to despair. How long will it be until the TV execs realise they are flogging a dead horse? That there is no more money to be made from selling Sky subscriptions or advertising space at premium rates for inferior product.
I have no idea what the Sky business model is like or how they intend to recoup their investment in football - if they can't and they are forced to trim their sails it could lead to the collapse of the English game as the majority of clubs must now be wholly dependent on Murdoch's millions to remain operational.
-
would celtic have got £6.5 + addons for Petrov is it wasnt for MON? I doubt it.
would celtic have got the cash for wallace and varga if it wasnt for keane? unlikely.
I think Celtic are producing good youngsters with potential and a good education - so we do have a source for income.
Also, we have had some fairly decent squad players, who probs should move on and are probably suited to the Div1 (where they have money to burn).
That to me sounds logical.
-
Edward, therin lies the rise and fall of Reginald Ranger.
Slap, the 'dirty wee secret' of European football, is that third place in the CL, and a drop to the Uefa Cup, is the most effective way to build a European coefficient, and therefore future European success.
I'll take the CL this season.

Surely the human rights of those at the receiving end of the bigotry and racism are paramount?
Sorry. my comment wasn't meant to mean I approved of the fact that UEFA were watering down their laws. However, UEFA must be seen to have laws that are compatible with civil law. If justice is to be served it must stand up to the highest scrutiny. Look at the way we hold the Scottish Football Association - when they have free reign they abuse it, look no further than the Jorge Cadette affair to see what happens when an association runs amok. That UEFA are accountable with strong, just regulations can only be a good thing for peoples rights, for justice and the campaign to rid football of such anachromisms.
The clubs have the means(with seating, ticket allocation based on seating, cctv, stewarding and policing) and the power (the laws in each of the countries affected by this blight) to stamp this out.
The laws need to be just and enforcable though. They also need to be applied to each club equally and without prejudice.
The fact that they do not, is testament to the fact that they are giving tacit approval to this scourge. Doing nothing is the same as actively encouraging these morons.
I agree to an extent. money talks and the richest have the most influence and indeed the most to lose. UEFA, I'm sure, wil be doing it's best to wrest the whip hand back from the clubs who want to continue as they do just now - that is without responsibility for their fans or their fans behaviour. Having laws compatible with human rights legislation can only make UEFA stronger, and the fight against racism stronger in the long term. Short term it's a set back, but hopefully the appetite is there to rid the game of this scourge and to encourage equal rights. Otherwise I hope the player become more militant and adopt the Zidane "hear evil, see evil act against evil approach." In the absence of laws, players will make their own protection on the pitch - off the pitch we have to hope the poice will crack down if the governing bodies and clubs don't.

England is definitely a market to avoid, unless we are selling, of course. Some of the fees paid there this summer are laughable- £4million for Gary McSheffrey anyone? £8million for Andy Johnson? And then these people have the cheek to grumble about £6.5million for Stan!
Despite the madness, I don't see it slowing down. Sky's entire business model is predicated on gaining subscriptions principally on the back of football fans, so they will always push the boat out when it comes to bidding rights. And with the EPL now opened to competition, there is less chance of Sky using a mononpoly position to drive down the price it has to pay.
Ironically, if the EU had not intervened in EPL rights, Sky would probably have been in a position to name its own price, and with the clubs so dependent on Sky's cash, they would have had little option but to agree.

I think they need to review all contracts *see Webster invoking article 17.
Maybe this has added to the delay? Celtic being as stringent as possible to ensure everything sorted.

Bigjock67 at 12.15,
On your question about seing the Benfica game in Las Vegas, check the website of the North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs www.nafcsc.com. You will find the e mail information for the club President who can confirm.
In N.A the federation negotiates with Setanta on an annual basis for all of Celtics domestic games, which we see live on black box satellite. For European games its a different negotiation with whoever holds the tv rights. Past years this has come down to the wire just before the first game of the campaign, but there's only one year I remember we didnt get the games live.
Good luck.

Just read Strachs comments on Scottish pundits. Excellent!
I've always wondered what the "next Level" was. These same people always talk of teams going to this mythical "Next Level". What the duff is "Next Level". Are we going to hear about Celtics ability/likelihood of making "The Next Level" for the next 3 months during the Champions' League campaign.
I'd love to knw what the "Next Level" is and how do we know when we've got there. So if anyone can enlighten me I'd be very grateful. Also is there another level above the "Next Level" and what is it called, or is it just the "Next Level"?
What level are we on just now. Are we already on a "next Level" or is it simply "This Level".
Please help. This is doing my head in.

jas,
while i agree with your point that this is in principal a model we should follow (sell players to epl while replacing them with the next crop of young players/incoming transfers) i wouldnt part with either maloney or mcgeady for 5m.
imo they will have a much higher price than that, could almost pay for the entire academy with the sale of either of them in a few years time.
instead of murray park(how i love that this is named after this supreme egotist, wait for the name change once he is finally rumbled) we could call lennoxtown the aiden mcgeademy( tom macademy would work better but....)
wouldnt want to see them leave but wouldnt want to stand in their way once they've done their bit for celtic.

Although it is indeed great when it does happen occasionally, and even better when Rangers cant get it, i think what has happened this summer is just something borne our of circumstances, so wouldnt get too carried away.
There is nothing to suggest that if we still had Fernandez or Sylla on our books that we would get a transfer fee, which would be turning the tide.
If Roy Keane had been given more time before the deadline, im not so sure that firstly, he would have chosen Varga and Wallace, and secondly, he would have paid £800k for them.
Remember he hasnt even completed his coaching badges, let alone been given any time to look around the place for players he would like.
Varga and Wallace were available, he knew them personally, and he needed to bring people pronto, those are the 3 contributing factors which led to us getting money.
If Souness was currently in management, i have no doubt that he would have spent over £1m on Bernard and/or Fanfan and Malcolm.
I am 100% certain on that, in the very very least he would have stopped Rangers having to buy out the remainder of their contracts and would have taken them over.
Pearson was purchased for a next to nothing price as his contract was running out, and from who are really a minnow club, he was bought young, been given exposure vs top opposition, so really, if whoever bought him knew what he was doing, when an offer comes in when a guy is NOT close to the end of his contract, then really, the offer should always be higher, whether he is a regular or not.
But, i do know what Paul is on about, i remember always being baffled, and then beginning to become convinced that when clubs were allegedly interested in Rangers fringe players, the fees discussed by the, wait for it...Scottish media were always inflated, always higher than would be mentioned by the same media for our 1st team players.
I became convinced that the Scottish media played a part in helping to drive up prices Rangers would get for selling players.
For example, when a club show an interest but are yet to speak to the club about the player, print that a club are chasing someone who is valued at £3m, when you know hes only worth £1m, then when the club approaches Rangers the beginning of the negotiations could be over £2m, if Rangers settle for £1.8, they have still got more than they should.
If Gerry Creaney had been a Rangers player, anyone else think they would have got well over £1m..

I was just thinking the same thing.
Keano desperately needed players in due to Sunderland's league position and with the window about to close he had to at least go for players he knew something about. Add to that the fact that we didn't have to sell Wallace or Varga undoubtedly drove the price up in our favour.

And continuing the future celtic hits its our tribute to arthur as promised
Watching every motion
Its your foolish glove's game
On this endless commotion
Finally rangers know no shame
Turning and returning
To some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion
As you turn around and pray
Genuflect away
Genuflect away
Watching I keep waiting
Still anticipating your glove
Never hesitating
To become the baited ones
Turning and returning
To some secret place to hide
Watching in slow motion
As you turn to them and pray
With your glove
Genuflect away
Through the holy mass I saw you
In time you slipped away
When the mirror headlined I called you
And turned to hear you say
If only for today
I am unafraid
Genuflect away
Genuflect away
Watching every motion
Its your foolish glove's game
Haunted by the motion
Somewhere there's a glove in flames
Turning and returning
To some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion
As you turn their way and pray
Genuflect away
your glove
Genuflect away
your glove
Genuflect away
your glove
Genuflect away

danny,
i agree and had often thought the same. for example they bought mladonovic( or something like that, the serbian zidane) it was for 1m according to the media. when he was rubbish the media spun out that rangers were prepared to take a 'cut price 500k' to offload him. dont think they paid a penny for him.
also didnt believe flo was 12m. seemed too neat to fit in with the 'for every fiver' statement given we had spent 6m on lenny and sutton. allowed them to take a 'cut price' 7m for him when peter reid bought him.
-
Gerry, I'm a little confused. Depends upon your connection type:
dial-up connection: the modem will call your ISP (you set your network connections with the call in details, including username and password).
ADSL: similar to dial-up, just a little faster.
Broadband: you connect to the internet via your ISPs server, your NIC will talk directly to this server, again the username/passowrd and server address are part of the connection settings.
If you have no ISP, then how are you connected to tehe internet? - I can only think that there is a delay by the ISP in removing your ID from their systems.
-
It seems I'm wrong about Teddy & Theodor, as they seem to be the same person, however I'm certain, He has a younger brother , not sure of his name, but Celtic & Man U were interested in him.
Can someone confirm this so that i can reclaim a bit of credability?? :)
-
In all honesty, over the past few seasons, I have preferred watching the Championship rather than the EPL, so in a way, I am not in the least surprised that the trasnfer fees have increased dramatically.
I agree that we may not have received the same monies for Stan Pettedlipov & Wallace/Varga if it weren't for MON & RK, however, we have to look at this more positively, as one poster has already mentioned, we have Shaun and Aiden who are worth a king's randsom to us.
If Wallace & Varga are worth £1.1m, what would you suppose the value of both Shaun & Aiden? (obviously, get SM contract sorted first)

I don't wish to sound pedantic or argue for arguments sake, but don't you think there are more deserving people/causes to name the new academy after?
We have been lucky enough to have had quite a few legends play for or manage Celtic, living or otherwise. Why should it be named after a player who has yet to become a regular starter never mind a legend???
Just curious...

Best is to make sure by deleting your shortcut, remove AOL by using the ADD/REMOVE function in Control Panel.
Also check your start-up in PROGRAMS make sure that AOL is not automatically started up when you switch on.

Do you have any info on Maloney signing a new contract any time soon?
Also what is your take on Article 17 of Fifa's rules governing transfers?
I honestly can’t believe that a player is allowed to join a club outside the country they play in so long as adequate notice is given, if they are in the third year of a four year deal. What about a five year deal exactly? Do we now need to offer even our most promising youngsters three year deals with the option of an extra year or just a five year deal?
Do you know if Celtic are in the process of renegotiating with players in our squad that fall into that category? The two players that spring to mind for me are our keeper with itchy feet, Marshall and our midfielder with dazzling feet, Mcgeady.
What is to stop them from joining at the end of the season say, Wolves for the former, and Man U or Arsenal for the latter? Then it is up to a panel to decide on a fee. A panel that probably know hee haw about Aiden’s potential.
I’ve just read about Webster and Hearts are apparently only going to get his wages for the year. So for Mcgeady or Marshall that equates to roughly £300,000. Not surprisingly I rate Mr. Mcgeady somewhat higher than that. Try at least £5M.
I hope we at least get Mcgeady signed up ASAP or we may live to regret it. He is in the same boat as Maloney was last season and we all know how that one has dragged out. His performances just got better and better and so his value went higher and higher.
For me Aiden has started the season better than Shaun did last year, who if you remember was mostly used as a super sub at the beginning of the season.
Don’t tell the boo bhoys but Aiden has actually played a part in near enough every goal we have scored this season. Surely if we offer him a good deal now we won’t need to offer him a superb one come April. Knowing our luck he will no doubt end up The Player of The Year by then. Player's and Writer's.
"Add a couple of grand on the wage for that" says his pleasant agent.
What are your thoughts on that scenario?
Anyone?

The blog has lacked a bit of bolding recently.
I suppose it's a good thing, as it means there hasn't ben much controversy or poor form. I fully expect that I'll be in full bolding mode before long however! :-)
I'm tempted to give Brian Quinn a bolding though - once again he's making reference to our away support and songs. It seems the Celtic board have more of a problem with the Celtic support than the SFA or UEFA. With "fans" like that, who needs enemies. The more he draws attention to us the more it gets peoples backs up and, by inferance, puts us in the same category as Rangers.
Brian Quinn might want to remember this quote by Voltaire - "It is better to risk saving a guilty man than to condemn an innocent one." We're getting a bad name, and why? Because Brian Quinn continues his tirade. His attempts to blandify the Celtic brand will, ultimately neuter it. In whose eyes are we equal when we kill God?

Talking about big Torre Andre Flo brings back to mind the time I saw him in Ingram Street.
He had only signed the week before and had scored a goal in our EXTREMELY NARROW defeat at Ibrox on the Saturday.
I was walking by the Italian Centre when this man said to me,
" It's him right enough". I turned around to see big T A Fcoming towards me.
"Who is he" I asked,
"Torre Andre Flo" the chap said with an air of excitement in hios voice,
"Who is he?" I asked
"A footballer" he replied. "He plays for R*****S" he added with some relish.
"Who are R*****s , I said, "I've never heard of them" I added.
"Are you taking the p***,you must know R*****S and T A F" he shouted at me.
"Never heard of them and don't really wantt to, either" I said as I walked away, following big T A F along Ingram Street, just wanting to give him a good hard kick for scoring against us.
Thankfully it was his one and only goal against us.
I winder sometimes when I hear or see anything about T A F if that man still is in awe of him.

I find it difficult to believe that the transfers down south could become any more inflated than they already are. I'll give an example which simultaneously casts some doubt upon the "maximum benefit" of the Petrov sale -- Emile Heskey to Wigan for 5 million. This bloke couldn't hit the side of a fleet of buses.

P8ddy,
I'm a tad confused here (it only happens once a day-between the alarm going off in the morning and bedtime at night), 1st of all there has been a statement released by UEFA (apologies to the poster who brought our attention to it, I forget your name) where it goes along the line of not being able to impose heavy penalties on clubs whose support have actually been found GUILTY of sectarian and racist offences.
Then, our esteemed chairman comes out AGAIN with a repeat of his "warning" over Republican chants bringing disrepute, shame and possible sanctions against the club.
Some clarity please?

Beware those down in the Exeter area of the country! Vargasshampoo has been spotted with an auld jaikit bursting at the seams with 2 and 1p coins heading to Nobles Amusements. He has let it be known that he will be attending tonights Richard Digence 'concert' in Exmouth and will be available to discuss amortisation and our proposed relocaction to Cambuslang in the surrounding ale houses afterwards.

Damien1888, my email is dgraham9@hotmail.com, can you let me know for sure too if game is on and I will catch you bhoys for the second half?

jackd - not sure what you're planning on t'internet, but I binned NTL. Wanted to use a wireless router, but for some reason each time I was sparking it up it ended up wanting to give me a new ISP adddress which then conflicted with the gizmo in the yadayada. Probably something down to the firewall my mate who was helping me was sticking in there - I don't know an ISP from an ASBO - but given he earns telephone numbers as a firewall specialist contractor for a global financial firm, I'm minded to believe him when he says NTL are c**p.
As to over-inflated fees and the self-professed "biggest league in the World" - there's too much money chasing too few "big name" players. Some crocked guys go for multi-mill ions (Woodgate, Owen) some guys who should be worth millions (Ballack, an uncrocked-Keane) go for zip, and then there's the EastEnd2 - the Argentinians at West Ham?!?! No one saw that coming even here in Albert Square... There'll be extremes at either end, but the bottom line is the big-two teams in Scotland are only slightly above all the rest of the teams in Scotland in most players eyes.
Now players like Tommy G and "the Big Jan" obviously know history, value champs league, want to play in front of TGFITW, but they are in a minority... EPL has a high profile and more TV money than you can shake an oligarch at, and that is why it's the only game in town for the mega-bucks.
Even with a low share price, there is little upside to buying Celtic (even with low debt and as a well run plc) and you'd have to be stark-raving bonkers to think of "investing" anything other than loose change in Mordor for the next generation! We're safe for the mo' and we're fishing in the same waters as the rest of the Pot 2/3 teams, EPL and the cream of LaLiga/SerieA are different animals.

Nice articles today Paul but I must bring to your attention that Tore Andre Flo cost Rangers £14 million (not £12 million).
Gwyn Williams (Recently retired Chelsea agent) ;- "The best player I recommended for Chelsea was Tore Andre Flo, who we signed for next to nothing from Norwegian club Brann.
We paid £250,000 to bring him in before the end of his contract and then sold him to Rangers for £14m - not a bad bit of business."

Dear Brian Quinn,
I have attended many of Celtic´s away games over the last 5 years. Living in mainland Europe means that it is far more convenient for me to attend these games as it is to attend Parkhead. I personally do not believe that personal politics and sport especially in my capacity as a Celtic fan should be mixed and should be actively discouraged.
As we all know Celtic fans won the FIFA fair play trophy in 2003 and we certainly did not receive this for any kind of en masse discriminatory chanting.
This leads me to believe that the suspect chanting that you refer to in your recent statement and that is causing you so much consternation must have happened during our 2004 CL campaign unless something dreadful happened in Artmedia off the park that the Scottish press glossed over. Again I would be surprised at the Scottish media missing an opportunity to restore parity with the recent shenanigans over sectarian chanting with the Rangers support at home and away games and in European and domestic competition. I see the recent warning given to Artur Boruc by the CPS regarding overtly blessing himself in public as a similar excercise in restoring parity. As was his employers lack of public support.
I do worry that you unsuspectingly do a similar disservice to our away European support. If this behaviour is something that you have witnessed and I have not at recent friendly matches away in England then I wish you would be more specific in your condemnation. Is this behaviour happening only in the directors box at European games ? The day after the Roy Keane friendly or the Chelsea game would have been more precise and less confusing and this should be specifically addressed and not dressed up as an away Europan Celtic support problem. Maybe such overtly money making excercises should be avoided in the future. It does as much harm to our reputation on the park as it does off of it.
I do believe that with the timing and content of your statement that you are doing our fine European support a serious disservice and unfortunately doing well in restoring the perceived parity with the recently fined, chastised and under fire Rangers support. Your well intentioned statement I believe is doing more harm than good and I wish you would refrain from issuing vague statements to the public on behalf of the support in the futire
Maybe you should seek advice before issuing such statements in the future.
Yours Sincerely
...

Kenny's got another booking in the Lithuania game so will miss the game against France.

Thon Kenny Miller's a dud, as more than a few on here have opined. Rest him on Saturday and put him up front on his own at Old Trafford.

Lennon acf,
The info I heard was that away fans at each tie would be allocated 6000 tickets.
Surely it should be based on a percentage basis. If they get 10% of the Paradise capacity then we should be allocated nearer 8000 for OT.
-
AWE NAW - Thought that was a bit harsh, but you are entitled to your opinion.
Is it not possible that our excellent management team are only covering Celtic's arses after recent events, ie: - Huns complain after seen/listening to a Celtic Euro game, find something (anything!) to write to UEFA about, and the good man has a ready made answer?
And you can put money on it that there will be HUNS lurking.

As a few of you have already alluded to, Kenny Miller played an absolute blinder for Scotland this evening.
He ran himself into the ground as usual, but there was so much more to his game than that.
He chased every pass and more often than not got there before the defender. He held on to it and used it intelligently, bringing the midfield into play on numerous occasions with surprisingly subtle passes.
His goal was taken superbly, a powerfully hit shot on the bounce after chesting it away from the defender. It did not look like a strike from a forward low on confidence.
90 minutes of sweat and endeavour, capped off by what would prove to be the winning goal.
I wanted to see him start just behind JVoH at Old Trafford primarily for his pace, but on tonight's evidence his overall play more than merits a starting slot.
-
Hi all
TAF was bought by Peter Reid for £7million, it defies believe that this guy is still rated in football and still a pundit for Sky.
I know supposed to be a Celtic man but what poor judgement that was.

No, not one of the anti scotland brigade. However vowed not to go to another Scotland game after 1990 Scotland England at hampden(0-2).Remember feeling sick as I stood there listening to the tartan army booing Peter Grant as he ran on to the park as a second half substitute.
Oreganbhoy
Agree with you on that one. BQ is no fool.
-
I`m happy that Scotland won, the post match interviews with Wattie, Chris Daly and Kenny Miller were fine but the Radio Scotland team were on par with what we have had to suffer from England.
We can hardly complain about English pundits and commentators when the Scottish equivalent are just as bad.
-
Miller was superb tonight - however, I felt that Caldwell in the midfield was not too clever. I've seen a few chaps post on here that this may possibly be his position when we take the field i Europe. If so, then I fear the worse.
Well Done Scotland

Don'tcha just love reading the absolute mince that passes for sycophantic praise of Lord David of Murray ??????? Especially when it all goes monumentally t**s-up...........
"• By Gabriele Marcotti of CNN 26-7-00
You can pencil in Glasgow Rangers to win its twelfth title in thirteen years.
Celtic (or anybody else in Scotland) has about as much chance of breaking Rangers' hegemony as Pamela Anderson does of winning an Academy Award.
Perhaps more than any other season in recent history, this one looks like a no-brainer.
After winning the title with a record margin, Rangers addressed its needs with clinical precision. In come Scottish international Paul Ritchie and Dutchmen Fernando Ricksen (perhaps the only professional named for an ABBA song) and Bert Konterman to strengthen the league's stingiest defense, while Kenny Miller and Allan Johnston provide even more options down the flanks.
Throw in the fact that **** Advocaat remains one of the sharpest tactical minds around and, simply put, it looks like a total mismatch. Celtic fans may point to the fact that their club played most of last season without star striker Henrik Larsson, who is now back from injury. True, but then Rangers also spent most of the year without its star centerforward, Michael Mols, who is also on the way back. Celtic is simply light years behind Rangers in terms of quality.
Indeed, apart from Larsson and possibly midfielder Paul Lambert, it's hard to see any Celtic players cracking Rangers' starting eleven. Which means that new boss Martin O'Neill is in for a bumpy ride. He can draw strength from the fact that doing worse than his predecessor, John Barnes, will be virtually impossible, but, beyond that, there is little to cheer at Celtic Park.
Top scorer Mark Viduka is gone and O'Neill¹s choice to replace him, former Chelsea dud Chris Sutton (hardly a snip at US $10 million) raised more than a few eyebrows. O'Neill did very well at Leicester City, but he may find that making a mediocre team respectable is far easier than turning a respectable team into a champion.
Indeed, if Celtic isn't careful, even the runner-up spot could be far from a foregone conclusion with clubs like Hearts and Hibernian ready to step in if the "Bhoys" falter. At least some degree of novelty should come from the new league format. Clubs will face each other three times before breaking off into two separate six-team mini-leagues some time in March. They will then play each of the other teams in their mini-league once.
Beyond the obvious flaw that some clubs will inevitably play more home games than others, the Scottish League's experiment could all be rendered moot if, as some expect, Rangers have locked up the title by March.
Still, if record goal totals and utter domination are your cup of tea, it might be fun to watch.

"Scotland on Sunday
"Good PR: David Murray is adept at influencing press coverage so that his initiatives are seen in a blinding light which dazzles mere reporters. LAST week’s mauling of Celtic by Rangers could not be contained within a single afternoon at Ibrox. Thanks to the publicity-minded cunning of David Murray, the fallout was to continue all week. While Celtic continued to hold dingy briefings in pubs for the press, Murray ensured that newspaper and television offices clattered with faxes about yet more investment in Rangers. As Murray knew, this ensured the usual baloney about how financially big and muscular his team were becoming. However manipulative of our media he may be, Murray still deserves credit for his boldness in championing Rangers. He may have caused bankers and financial analysts to blanch down the years, but he is prepared to drive his club forward with outrageous ambition. An indication of this was evident three years ago when he was prepared to more than double the salary of Dick Advocaat, the former Netherlands coach, then of PSV Eindhoven. More recently, his almost reckless willingness to allow Rangers to amass more than £48m in back borrowing should erase any doubts about whether, in footballing terms, he is a venture capitalist. Murray has a great knack of being a puppeteer of newspapers. When you read some versions of what he is doing at Rangers, the impression is gleaned that he has almost become the sports editor of certain tabloids. He tosses financial figures into the air which are dutifully reproduced, usually with a grand sense of inflation which allows the arithmetic to be pumped up a bit. Last week, for instance, at Murray’s obvious behest, the Rangers rights issue, which might have trouble reaching its £53m goal, was effortlessly translated by one paper into a £100m beanfeast for Ibrox.
Such bulletins are adorned with lauding phrases about Murray being "extremely astute" and "typically brilliant". None of this, though, is straight reporting: this amounts to sports journalists being reduced to compliant Plasticine. In fact, closer reading of the text which Murray has produced for the rights issue, indicates that the monies expected to flood into Rangers might take the form of rivulets rather than rivers. They are hoping to sell an additional 15 million ordinary shares; of these, less than 60% are guaranteed to be purchased by Murray and the South African, Dave King, through the Murray subsidiary, Murray Sports. This leaves a further six million shares, amounting to an extra £21m windfall, still to be drummed out of eternally-willing supporters. These fans may or may not subscribe to this, but the possibility must remain of the plan falling short. Indeed, the impression lingers beyond the hype that all of Rangers’ plans cannot be accommodated under the scheme. The new training camp planned for Milngavie is a worthwhile notion, but will require £10m; the Advocaat team re-building, blithely reported to be claiming another £20m chunk, will further eat into resources; Murray and King, the latter on television, also indicated that a further £20m will be allocated to reduce the onerous £48m debt – one report on Friday even went so far as to say that Rangers’ entire borrowings would be erased. But all these claims could fail to materialise in a plan which, at its ultimate pitch, assumes the willing largesse of supporters. King may be about to pump £20million into Rangers but is being investigated in South Africa for alleged illegal share dealings. If a case is proved against Dave King he could face up to 10 years in jail and a multi-million pound fine. King has already suffered severe criticism of inappropriate financial dealing in a share sale which netted him a fortune of over £100m. He sold the bulk of his 71% holding in his company, Outsourcing, at premium prices before a critical broker's report sent the share price plummetting. King failed to inform other shareholders he was off-loading shares in the Stock Exchange-listed company. King has argued he had no responsibility to inform Outsourcing shareholders he was selling his interest. Under British and American law this surreptitious sale is illegal. However, the Sunday Herald can reveal Castlemilk-born King is now also the subject of a government inquiry over a deal which, if it finds against him, could land him in jail and with fines so large that they could bankrupt him. The executive director of the Insider Trading Directorate of South Africa's stock regulatory authority, the Financial Services Board, confirmed last night that King and his newest business vehicle, Legacy Ventures, were being probed over the purchase of a company earlier this year which made more than £4m profit for an offshore company he runs. Because of a privacy provision in South African legislation, Gerhard van Deventer would not give details of the allegations against King and his company, but confirmed that he was looking into a complaint of insider trading. The probe should be completed in July. The maximum penalties for insider trading are a fine of £200,000 and 10 years' imprisonment. But the directorate can also issue a civil summons against alleged offenders for up to three times the profit gained or the losses avoided as a result of illegal trading.
The investigation will focus on the deal between King's new company and his old one, Specialised Outsourcing, the source of his £100m fortune. Murray has surely perfected the art of finding rich men who require a distracting plaything to use up their loose change. In this regard, King is a qualitatively different animal from Joe Lewis, a previous contributor. Lewis scarcely knew who Rangers were, but became impressed with the business possibility. King, while being a multi-millionaire, and thus not financially stupid, is far more about enjoying a new dalliance in life. All this Ibrox scheming and plotting only served, as was Murray’s intent, to show up Celtic’s frailty. The recent notion of Kenny Dalglish, to start hawking hacks around pubs for briefings, does little to enhance this poor image. Journalists see enough of pubs as it is. In recent times, we’ve normally enjoyed visiting Celtic Park for the sort of numbing club news that would sober up anyone. After their thrashing at Ibrox last Sunday, Celtic are once more starkly aware of their intrinsic weakness. Years of instability at Parkhead have now been deposited on Dalglish, though his part in the disastrous appointment of John Barnes only contributed to the mess.
In some league games this season, Celtic have stylistically out-pointed Rangers, but the Ibrox club, in style and much else, have every right to claim that they are much better. It remains a foundations-and-floorboards issue which Allan MacDonald, Celtic’s chief executive, still needs to rectify. In the meantime, Murray and Rangers can continue calling upon the Bacchic approval of the press."

And another wee belter from the same time period (summer 2000), straight from the vile throat of an "Educated !!!" (oxymoron shoorley ?) orc.................
"• This was posted on Follow Follow back in the summer of 2000 by the Govanhill Gub, and was typical of the comments at that time. How these things have come back to bite him on the bum.
"Whilst Liverpool's achievements, over a quarter of a century and more between 1963-1990, are part of footballs folklore. It should be remembered that in 66-72, when Shanks couldn't see by the group of players, who originally catapulted Liverpool into the spotlight. The mighty reds won hee-haw.
Somehow I dont see that state of affairs being tolerated at Ibrox whilst `the little general` is in charge. And that is the way it should be. There is no room for sentiment in football. And that is not a modern view of things, by any means.
For those of you who want to bask in the glory that was last season, buy the video, crack open a bottle before the new season starts, watch it all again and then forget it.
The season ahead is shaping up to be one of the most important in our history. Super colossal just about sums it up. And on two fronts at that.
First off, Europe. There is absolutely no doubt that this is the place where we belong. In with the big boys. And progress is being made. Advancement in this area year on year will probably be a determining factor in whether DA feels it is worthwhile staying longer than his present contract.
But do we forsake the League title for the pursuit of European glory? After all, the Chairman in his wisdom said at the start of last season, that he would gladly sacrifice the title in exchange for European success and was roundly condemned by the fans.
Since then Van Bronckhorst has said much the same and even DA has been quoted as being in the same frame of mind as the Chairman. I would urge them all to think again.
Quite simply European football at this moment in time is hooked, rotten to the core. At present it is well nigh impossible for us to win the big one. (Not that weve ever really been that close before)
Man Utd winning it in 99 was bad enough, but if anything, Real Madrid lambadaing off with the prize this year was even worse. How can you play a team 4 times in a cup competition lose to them 3 times, yet still go through to the actual final at that teams expense? Corrupt doesnt even begin to sum it up.
And Real Madrid should be a warning to anyone who wants to sacrifice the league, just to have a right good go at the CL.
Imagine miracles of miracles, getting to the semi finals, but at the expense of domestic success? (Too many points have been dropped in the league) Imagine being handily placed from the first leg and then have the second leg at home? This is it. After all the years of pain. This is going to be our year.
And then being put to the sword by one breathtakingly, outrageous, sublime piece of skill, ala Redondo at Old Trafford earlier this year? So our season would be finito, that mob brought back from the brink, because WE didnt give our own league enough respect. I for one, hope that never happens.
I am as desperate for European success as any fan, but for now, making the second knock out phase in the CL is as much as we can hope for. And that is why the news that we are to be seeded at the third qualifying round( which is what is perceived at time of writing) is the best possible news we could have. And it is well deserved too.
I firmly believe that the biggest pressure on us European wise is making the CL sections proper. Getting through to the first phase and then winning our first CL match has to be our immediate aim. And that will do nicely for starters.
But enough of Europe for now. Ever since the league was sown up last season, (Mar 8th) my thoughts have been channelled towards this term. I could well be wrong, but I do believe we are nearing the old firm equivalent of endgame/checkmate/ game, set and match, thank you very much.
It is hard, to see the appointment of ONeill, as anything other than the last throw of the dice for that lot.
For how many years now, have we been subjected to absolute p*sh that Big Caesar, Brady, (if he has even a fraction of the talent as a manager as he had as a footballer?) the `cappoci man`, ehpopepiousofcelticfootballclub, Dr Dracula (I just loved that accent), and the calypso kid were going to leave Huns trailing in their wake?
Youll notice that I never mentioned `Wim the tim`. Well funnily enough, the curly headed Dutchman, has even got the experts on the septic list, split 60-40, straight down the middle. There are some who believe he won the league purely by himself.
For those who are interested by such things, Jansens stats (head to head) Vs Walter are as follows. Played 5 Won 1 Drawn 1 (thanks to Rowbotham) and Lost 3.
We have to assume that the yahoos will be an altogether more serious threat this time around. Quite frankly (Mr Shankly) they cant get any worse!
As for ONeill? He may or may not be the answer to the depraved ones prayers. But I find it truly astonishing (and delightful) that he spent the first few weeks as manager, commentating at Euro 2000 instead of turning in a 15 hr a day shift at Torbett Towers.
Quite simply, if the roles had been reversed and we had finished miles behind last season. Had saw our rivals strengthen an already far superior squad still further. Had put in a new manager in place, only for him to swan off to an International tourney, then I would be in a white jacket with 5ft sleeves by now.
Our greatest advantage undoubtedly, is the fact that the yahoos are so filled with a hatred of all things Huns FC, that they cannot admit (even among themselves) that we are possibly a halfway decent side. And I f****** love it!
So when we start to pull away from them in the league, the yahoo brain, (or what passes for grey matter) goes into overdrive. The frustration and the poison take hold, and hey presto another manager, the latest green dope, is put under the most terrific pressure.
That lot can sing to the cows come home that they will give ONeill all the time in the world to catch us up. Whos kidding who? Huns winning the league again and maybe this time around, qualifying for the second CL sections will have that lot demanding blood once more.
To sum up my aims for this season? Well, my wee buddy from Cumbernauld says that if we could keep our feet on the yahoos throats for another couple of seasons then `mass` suicides will be the order of the day at Torbett Towers.
As for me? I just hope we are wearing spiky new golf shoes while we are doing it! This is shaping up to be a mega season. Enjoy".
Never mind Nostradamus, Mystic Meg or Nick Leeson has better foresight than this clown."
God, how much do I hate these people !!!!???
I would at this time like to post a personal disclaimer : EU, I am not ashamed of my hatred for the base element of your fellow "fans !!!???", and before anyone starts, yes hatred. It is my perogative to use this term and I use it very advisedly. I detest everything that they espouse and stand for. You, on the other hand, IMHO, are exempt from all and any diatribe that I direct towards the hunic hordes.

And as it's so quiet...............?
Posted this before, but some of our newer readers might appreciate a wee funny.............
Sydney radio - This is a corker
Just imagine sitting in traffic on your way to work and hearing this.
Many Sydney folks DID hear this on the FOX FM morning show in Sydney.
The DJs play a game where they award winners great prizes. The game is Called "Mate Match". The DJs call someone at work and ask if they are married or seriously involved with someone. If the contestant answers "yes", he or she is then asked 3 random yet highly personal questions.
The person is also asked to divulge the name of their partner (with phone number) for verification. If their partner answers those same three questions correctly, they both win the prize.
One particular game, however, several months ago made the Harbour City drop to its knees with laughter and is possibly the funniest thing you've heard yet. Anyway, here's how it all went down:
DJ: "Hey! This is Ed on FOX-FM. Have you ever heard of 'Mate Match'?"
Contestant: (laughing) "Yes, I have."
DJ: "Great! Then you know we're giving away a trip to the Gold Coast if you win.
What is your name? First only please."
Contestant: "Brian."
DJ: "Brian, are you married or what?"
Brian: (laughing nervously) "Yes, I am married."
DJ: "Thank you. Now, what is your wife's name? First only please."
Brian: "Sara."
DJ: "Is Sara at work, Brian?"
Brian: "She is gonna kill me."
DJ: "Stay with me here, Brian! Is she at work?"
Brian: (laughing) "Yes, she's at work."
DJ: "Okay, first question - when was the last time you had sex?"
Brian: "About 8 o'clock this morning."
DJ: "Atta boy, Brian."
Brian: (laughing sheepishly) "Well..."
DJ: "Question #2 - How long did it last?"
Brian: "About 10 minutes."
DJ: "Wow! You really want that trip, huh? No one would ever have said that if a trip wasn't at stake."
Brian: "Yeah, that trip sure would be nice."
DJ: "Okay. Final question. Where did you have sex at 8 o'clock this morning?
Brian: (laughing hard) "I, ummm, I, well..."
DJ: "This sounds good, Brian. Where was it at?"
Brian: "Not that it was all that great, but her mum is staying with us for a couple of weeks..."
DJ: "Uh huh..."
Brian: "...and the Mother-In-Law was in the shower at the time."
DJ: "Atta boy, Brian."
Brian: "On the kitchen table."
DJ: "Not that great?? That is more adventure than the previous hundred times I've done it. Okay folks, I will put Brian on hold, get this wife's work number and call her up. You listen to this."
[3 minutes of commercials follow. ]
DJ: "Okay audience; let's call Sara, shall we?" (touch tones.....ringing....)
Clerk: "Kinkos."
DJ: "Hey, is Sara around there somewhere?"
Clerk: "This is she."
DJ: "Sara, this is Ed with FOX-FM. We are live on the air right now and I've been talking with Brian for a couple of hours now."
Sara: (laughing) "A couple of hours?"
DJ: "Well, a while now. He is on the line with us. Brian knows not to give any\answers away or you'll lose. Sooooooo... do you know the rules of 'Mate Match'?"
Sara: "No."
DJ: "Good!"
Brian: (laughing)
Sara: (laughing) "Brian, what the hell are you up to?"
Brian: (laughing) "Just answer his questions honestly, okay? Be completely honest."
DJ: "Yeah yeah yeah. Sure. Now, I will ask you 3 questions, Sara. If your answers match Brian's answers, then the both of you will be off to the Gold Coast for 5 days on us.
Sara: (laughing) "Yes."
DJ: "Alright. When did you last have sex, Sara?"
Sara: "Oh God, Brian....uh, this morning before Brian went to work."
DJ: "What time?"
Sara: "Around 8 this morning."
DJ: "Very good. Next question. How long did it last?"
Sara: "12, 15 minutes maybe."
DJ: "Hmmmm. That's close enough. I am sure she is trying to protect his manhood. We've got one last question, Sara. You are one question away from a trip to the Gold Coast. Are you ready?"
Sara: (laughing) "Yes."
DJ: "Where did you have it?"
Sara: "OH MY GOD, BRIAN!! You didn't tell them that did you?"
Brian: "Just tell him, honey."
DJ: "What is bothering you so much, Sara?"
Sara: "Well..."
DJ: Come on Sara..... where did you have it?
Sara: "Up the ar$e....."
After a long pause, the DJ said, "Folks, we need to take a station break"
And the drivers of Sydney almost crashed their cars laughing

Where are they now !!!???
RANGERS are among the world's top 20 wealthiest football clubs, according to a survey which also confirms Manchester United as the richest in the world.
He added: 'We have been at the top for some time. It's the way we go about it. We are commercially aware.'
Mr Murray said, however, the survey appeared to concentrate only on turnover. Newcastle United and Liverpool, he added, were ahead of Rangers in the top 20 but the stadia in which they played - St James's Park and Anfield - were 'not a patch on Ibrox'.

Mystic Meg, eat yer heart out..............
Hartson has played just two games for the Londoners this term and struggled to make an impact in Monday's clash with Preston.
Yet Murray rushed him up to Glasgow in his private jet to try and beat the Euro deadline - only to send him back after getting the doc's verdict.
The Ibrox chairman said: "He doesn't have the required level of match fitness we need. He's simply not fit enough to play for Rangers.
"Yes he can play for Wimbledon and Yes he can play for Wales but he has to meet a higher standard for the Champions League.
"That's what we wanted him for and I feel really sorry for the boy that we haven't signed him. We really didn't have a lot of time to look at him.
"We got him for his medical at 4pm. We did MRI scans and all sorts of tests and the conclusion was not a good one."
"His agent Jonathan Barnett insisted Hartson will be back - maybe even for Celtic. He said: "He is upset and sad but he is a very determined person and I am sure he will go out there and show what he can do.
"I can't say whether Rangers will still be interested but it won't stop any other teams.
"Strikers like John don't grow on trees. He is a young boy and if he doesn't score goals for Rangers in the future, who knows - it could be for Celtic."

TORE ANDRE FLO finally arrived in Glasgow and clinched a stunning four-year deal with Rangers.
The Norwegian hitman smashed the Scottish transfer record as Ibrox supremo David Murray lured him from Chelsea in a staggering Pounds 12million deal.
And unlike previous targets John Hartson and Raul Tamudo, Flo sailed through his fitness check and put pen to paper for the champions.
Murray confirmed: "All contractual matters have been resolved and the medical appears in order, although the results of a few tests are awaited.
"Our fans will understand the club must take proper time and due consideration in all aspects of this signing."
Flo looked unfazed by the tag of Scotland's most expensive signing. He said: "It's nice to be here and let's hope things go well."

What on earth is going on at our club with away tickets? It is clear from the Thomas Cook website that they have further tickets but it seems that they must be bought as part of a TC package which in short means having to get a bus from Parkhead down to the match. This really does not suit everybody. Does anyone know how to purchase a ticket without having to step onto one of the wretched buses?

Appreciate the heads up but I was unsuccesful in applying. The website rejected my bank details saying I had an Unknown card and the 0870 number asked me if I wanted to discontinue or phone another number? What other number????
Has anyone else had more luck recently or is this new batch sold out and that message counts as customer service?
Still hope to get a sniff of one ticket as an independent traveller, at least for Lisbon, if not Manc.

CHAMPION JUST CHAMPION!
Murray's Blueprint
The Herald, March 2000
KEN GALLACHER
Just as promised, Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football, as chairman David Murray announced a new investment of £53m for the Ibrox club, with a further massive cash boost soon to follow.
The eventual cash injection could soar as high as £80m as Murray guides the club into what he believes will be a new, golden era for the Scottish champions. The money involved, the biggest financial boost for any Scottish football club, will enable them to move into Europe's elite over the next few years. Yesterday, however, Murray maintained, as always, that he will not turn his back on Scottish football to play in any other league, and that while he remains in charge of the club, he will retain a responsibility to the domestic game."
It is clear from this latest move, however, that the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match - and that appears to include their Old Firm rivals, Celtic, who are trailing by 15 points in the Premier League championship and are now looking at a financial gap which the Parkhead club might not be able to bridge. There have been hints around Glasgow that Celtic could be ready to attempt a share flotation of their own, but it would seem unlikely they would be able to match the financial clout that Murray has put together. The Ibrox chairman promised his shareholders good news and a more prudent financial strategy at the last annual meeting of the club. He has now delivered this by taking on board several very heavy financial hitters, South African-based David King is worth around £300m - £20m of which he is investing in the club he followed as a young man in Glasgow."
The Ibrox chairman has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers' debt, currently sitting at around £40m, provide finance for the new training centre and the soccer academy which will be housed there, and still allow cash to invest in new players. He said: 'I want to make it clear from the outset that while our small shareholders, our supporters who have an interest in the club, will have the opportunity to invest again if they want, there is no pressure on them to do so. The bulk of the rights issue is being taken up by myself and David King and some other smaller investors, including Alastair Johnston, who is a long-time Rangers' supporter.'
'We also have Trevor Hemmings coming in as an investor and Tom H***** will join us some time in the future. Essentially, the investment we require is in place and we also have a major media deal in the pipeline which is very exciting and will bring in further serious investment to the club. I told you earlier this week that I had run the club up to now on a high-risk strategy which has involved carrying large debt. These days are over. The whole method of running the club is going to change, because we are in a situation right now where we do not need to take the risks we have had to take in the past. We don't have to spend the same money on players, for example, as we have had to do over the past two years when we were restructuring the team after the arrival of Dick Advocaat. At the moment, we have two new players set for next season, Allan Johnston and Fernando Ricksen and Dick is looking for another quality striker. He is working hard on that right now.' 'Dick and myself know what we are aiming for.
We want to be in the Champions League every season. This is what we want for the club and this is what we have been working towards. However, we shall not be going on any wild spending sprees in the transfer market.' 'We have a player or two to add to the squad - a top-class international front player, as I said, but we don't need to buy Numan, van Bronckhorst, Mols, Reyna, or McCann - because we have these lads in place already. Believe me when I tell you that we are going for it this time - we want to be successful in Europe, and the money we are raising now will take us there.'
'This is the last part of the jigsaw for me, but we shall always be a part of Scottish football and we will take our domestic responsibilities seriously. We respect the other teams in the Premier League and we know this news will make them try even harder against us. But, so be it. 'Barcelona don't win every week. Bayern Munich don't win every week. Manchester United don't win every week. Yet, our supporters expect us to do so and we shall always try to do that. What we do know is that to be in the Champions League, we have to win the Scottish title, and that is our aim every season. We shall always be here with our roots.'
However, the mega-deals Murray has been working on are sure to carry Rangers out of the reach of their rivals here at home and unless Celtic can somehow find the means to strengthen their own financial standing even the age-old rivalry between the Glasgow giants will be threatened as the Ibrox men grow ever stronger.

Noel @5.40,
They have been bottling it since the day that MON walked through our front door, and they are still bottling it today.
They have become very desperate.
I can feel a little sympathy for EdwardU, having to try to make a case for his team winning the league.
I'm sure he knows they have no chance of winning it but he has to keep up the pretence.
Tinytim,
A good hard kick in the Proverbials is not your style, you could kill a man from 50 paces with your great charm and wit.

Yes I know his heart is in the right place but yet again the onlt time the board talk about the support is in derogatory terms.
Best laugh is we are the best behaved away support in Europe.

Negative anon Whats your problem with what BQ SAİD ? İf you are a celtic supporter, then surely you wouldnt do anything to damage our great club !Perhaps your agenda goes beyond cheering for your team ? if so i strongly suggest that you continue your quest outside the realms of CFC ! Havent you got it yet my friend? the days of using celtic as a political vehicle are over !!
-
Neg_anon , p8ddy ,
I totally agree with your said postings on BQ statement. I feel also he's treading old ground and giving the press the ideal way to twist his statement to suit their agendas. In a dull week this will no doubt fill space and give the hacks easy work.
We are now being tarred with the same brush as the other lot , unfairly might I add. BQ just gives the others ammunition. His heart is in the right place but sometimes he does need to see the broader picture before he speaks.
We will not be investigated by UEFA. You can take that to the bank.
Just cut to the chase Mr Quinn , Tell us what you dont want us to sing , and we'll tell you what we are going to keep singing.
-
Big Liam İm afraid u got that very wrong big man ! BQ isnt givin the press ammo people like you are !! Why is it so difficult for u to understand that the celtic football club is about FOOTBALL ! not irish politics or religious divisions.Quite the opposıte in fact, its about inclusion ! Why dont you do all fairminded celtic fans a favour and stop dragging us down into gutter along with those that you detest so much ?
-
Great newspaper articles fellas,
Historyreader if Celts and the other were fonts Rangers would certainly be BOLD!
However for all their bold predictions were are they now?
-
Hypothetcal question.
If Benfica are booted out of the Cl and no replacement is found, would Celtic get co-efficient points for 2 wins.
Surely,if Copenhagen beat Benfica next week UEFA could not strip them of Co-eff points.
They would then be penalising teams from other FA's and we would be denied the chance to win Co-eff points against them as well.
-
Bhoyfaethebul,
Mr Quinn didnt make reference to sectarian singing. He said offensive singing. Go check newsnow for headlines and you'll see the statement has been twisted to suit needs.
Bhoyfaethebul you havent grasped that Celtic is more than a football Club. Celtic are world famous because people like you who think they are just another football club are, thankfully, in the minority.
You contradict yourself in your statement you say football is about inclusion , well your excluding fans and part of Celtics heritage. Which will always be there whether you like it or not.
For the record I want the add-ons to stop , I want the original songs sung. This is where I'm coming from.
-
-
Big Liam
Glad to hear you want the add ons to stop.At least thats a start.
BTW when TG signed and spoke so enthusiastically about his delight about joining such a world famous club I do not recall him listing the singing of pro IRA songs as something that drew him to the club.
Point I'm trying to make is that this club of ours will still be this amazing movement without these songs and add ons. I would even suggest that we would have even greater appeal.
-
P8ddy,Neg Anon,Big Liam, well said re Brian Quinn once again having nothing nice to say.
He does a decent job for Celtic, but he doesn't half know how to put his foot in his mouth at times.
Mr Angry,
I do not recall Mr Gravesen saying he almost did not sign because of "pro IRA" songs being sung by Celtic fans.
Please do not take things Mr Gravesen did "not" say and twist them to suit your own opinion.

Hello fellow Celts, agree stop the add -ons, but I enjoy the old Irish tunes, and songs with passion,do not want to see Celtic become just another football club....

Anyone confirm something for me please. At Aberdeen on Saturday are we being allocated seats that are normally given to the home support? Last week I obtained 2 tickets (issued by CFC) and have only just checked them to find that they are for the South Stand Block T. This Block is on the home side of the fence in the stand and this is clearly shown on the map of the stadium printed on the ticket (visiting fans have Blocks P, Q and R). Also, entry is via the Merkland Road turnstiles which are usually used by home fans. Anyone else got similar tickets?
-
Mr Angry -
as Thomas G affectionately referred to his nights among or alongside Celtic's 'notorious' away support perhaps those add-ons etc are exactly what drew him to the club.
Stop making things up to suit your own ends.
Mr Quinn (whom I have met and respect) keeps putting a flag up saying 'Look, we're over here, please place us under your microscope too'. What's the point of this ? Whose interest does it serve ? The Old Firm of which we want to be no part?
WG
