    Apologies, from last thread.

    PS..1st?

    DadiesBhoy 1240am,

Not sure if you are still awake, but Brian Glanville wrote a beautiful tribute to the Lions on the eve of Seville in The Times.

His obituary of Jinky (in The Guardian I think) was also full of praise for the wee man and The Big Man too.

I met him in in the course of my work a few years ago and he waxed eloquent of Lions-era Celtic.

its the wee things that make you happy when the celts are flying high. Caught Spanish Eurosport last night and the hoops at no.4 on top 24 clubs. Winding up my cule mate last night (Barca no. 10 or something). also made up for last season when the huns were floating around the top 20 all year - when everyone knew they were mince!

looking for a good performance from the hoops today (i'm actually a born and bred motherwell man)

    cheers

    Alright Bhoys?

1st time poster etc. How do you interweb people listen to the games? can you recommend a site? Tried Snyde and the BBC but no dice. Normally I rely on the posters here but I've got a decent connection now and want to hear it. Hauners?

unfortunately the bbc coverage goes off after kick off as they dont have the rights to broadcast the games abroad.

unless you sign up for channel 67 then yyou are stuck with radio clyde, i dont know why you cant get it started??

they don't even have the rights to do commentary so they talk around the game rather than commentate

    they also talk nonsense.

sign up for channel 67 - it is your best bet.

Morning all. Off to my csc shortly to watch the game. I know it's motherwell, but there is a sense of excitement about Celtic these days.

There will be stodgy periods in today's game. Let's hope the support will do their part and ensure we get a lift when needed.

Paul.....any thoughts on us still being interested in Kadlec (or any other left back) ? The lack of cover these days is problematic.

I'm certainly not expecting to whup Motherwell today. I think it will be a close match but it will be nice to see if we can cope with defensive changes, allowing rest for injuries.

I may be following a "gambler's fallacy " line of reasoning here, but I expect Maciej to get back to scoring today.

Emdy need a Benfica section ticket for Lisbon?

    One Left Back.

    One Mid-Fielder.

    Have options on.....

    Mr. Whittaker.
    Mr. Kadlec.
    Mr. Tymo.

Sit right back and await the outcome.

    Any more questions?

this is a true story if anyone bothers to read the whole thing....

    Seville Err sorry Kathmandu stories

What would you do if you were in a country on the other side of the world where there is a civil war, a general strike and an army curfew? You could do what we did – which was this – bribe a bar, have a lock-in and then crawl back to your hotel under cover of darkness after having watched the Celtic game.

I had been doing volunteer work in Nepal and for a month I didn’t know what was going on with the Celts at all. We were in a village that was three hours through the jungle to the nearest phone never mind satellite TV. Now, whilst it was a brilliant experience in the village, I got back to Kathmandu (the capital of Nepal) and I was suffering from Celtic cold turkey. I checked the Internet to see how we had been getting on and I noticed that the Celtic V Bayern match was going to be on ESPN Asia.

All well and good you might think but the trouble is that they are having a civil war at the moment (I would say they are knocking seven colours of shit out of each other but actually, due to guardia, amoebas, worms and many types of intestinal nastiness there are considerably more than 7 colours of shit in Nepal) and this would make it difficult. The Maoists/Communists (who are fighting the army) had called for a general strike for three days and this was to begin the next morning. Because of this strike the Royal Nepal Army had called a curfew for 9pm on the night of the game, which they promised was going to be “rigorously enforced” (kick-off was half past midnight Nepali time – for some strange reason the time difference is 4hrs 45 mins). This provided us with a problem. EVERYTHING was to be closed and EVERYONE had to be in his or her house or hotel before 9pm. We could either pay a fortune for a hotel room with satellite TV and we couldn’t afford to do this or we could bribe a bar owner to let us stay in the bar and put us all at risk. After about two seconds consideration we decided the second idea was the way forward as the only other option was to miss the match and that, was not an option.

The bartender made it extremely clear to me that I would have to be incredibly quiet, sit with the lights out and that I would have to be responsible for my mates doing the same thing because he didn’t want either the army or the Maoists turning up and shooting him or closing him down (we didn’t particularly want this to happen to us or him either).

The difficult part of that was that the game didn’t kick off till 00.30am and we had all been in the pub since three in the afternoon – and we would be in there in darkness getting pissed and trying to be quiet – I didn’t rate our chances.

So after dinner the 5 of us had to get round into the bar before
9pm. Walking/running down the street we randomly bump into a guy wearing an Ireland strip (1994 world cup style) and we asked him if he fancied watching it – “Fecking Excellent” he shouts (not really “fecking” but you know what I mean) so he came along with us too.

Somewhere down the line a guy from Manchester who looked suspiciously like Mani from the Stone Roses had joined us as well but none of us can remember how he managed to tag along (he wasn’t Mani –we forced his wallet off him to check then gave it back).

Regrettably, we weren’t all tims. The guy from Manchester was a Man Utd fan, one guy was a Ross County fan and two of the six were actually hearts fans (but supporting the Celts for the European night) but 3 out of 7 people when you are that far away isn’t that bad.

Anyway, by the time kick off came round we were all pretty hammered and had been warned to shut up a few times by the guys at the bar who were playing cards by candlelight and doing their best to ignore us. They had heard of Celtic but didn’t know any players so we gave them their first lesson about Henrik – I can’t say they were totally engrossed but they listened politely and gave him the necessary respect!

After the match started it was 10 times harder to keep quiet. A couple of patrols went by outside too – the bar had a guy watching the street ready to turn the TV down or off if the army or the Maoists suddenly got a bit interested in what was going on.

First half came and went – to be honest it’s a bit of a blur in my memory now after the all day drinking session we had had. Second half starts, Thommo scores and we all go absolutely nuts. Far too nuts in fact. The bar guys were sh*tting themselves that we had raised the whole neighbourhood. After settling down we kept VERY VERY quiet for about 10 minutes then started to breathe a bit easier just as Munich scored.

After they scored their second goal we didn’t really have time to be depressed as the thought of getting back to the hotel safely was enough to occupy our minds for the moment. The bar had originally said we could sleep there till the curfew ended at 5am – it was now about 2.45am – but because we had made so much noise and fuss they decided that they were prepared to “let” us go sooner.

My hotel was the nearest so we all decided to go back there (except the Manchester guy – but I will come to that). This meant getting out the back door and crawling round to the hotel. To be totally honest, I don’t think we were capable of doing much more than crawling at this point anyway.

We had to ring the bell of the hotel for ages before anyone came to let us in but eventually we made it. We hadn’t won but we hadn’t been arrested or killed either and at least we had played well enough.

However, the Man Utd fan had went off on his own and the police had heard the commotion we were causing trying to get into the hotel a few minutes before. They assumed it was him and before long he had a gun in his back and was being pleasantly escorted/carried/forced/kicked back to his hotel at gunpoint – he was lucky it wasn’t worse.

I met him the next day and he told me all this (and thanked me for it). The next day a couple of restaurants were open in defiance of the strike and one of them was showing the full match, which they had recorded the previous night. I didn’t know they were going to do this but I think that even if I had known it wouldn’t have made the slightest bit of difference – we would have watched it live anyway.

Missed the first 20 minutes. Motherwell have had several chances (more than us). Definately need a 2nd goal. Don't fancy this ref.

I adore Neil Lennon. However....on days like today, when he could do with a rest, his style really isn't a help. We need a higher tempo in midfield, and Neil isn't supplying that.

LENNON, as ever but getting forward a lot (Frosty covering)
SNO, Evander, involved a lor i nthe build up & playing well. I would like to see him playing a fater ball forward though.
    NAKAMURA, Showing great skills
MALONEY, building up match sharpness, but some slack passes.

    MILLER, playing well
    ZURAWSKI, Goal or OG?

Final ball often spoiling good moves.

Motherwell playing OK - one bad miss - McDonald tricky and dangerous as ever.

No changes to team at half time. Naka has began 2nd half with lots of purpose. Patience is the key now. Motherwell will have to gamble, so will hopefully be hit with counter attack. Set up for K Millers pace.

It was always going to be thus. Post Europe and all that. Our pool is now getting stretched, so changes that we may have wanted to make were not possible.

Gordon was also unable to make the more 'risky' subs (ie Riorden and Balde).

That being said, Majic will have been given a lift, so that's not a bad thing.

Final point on motherwell's goal....all of our players were deep in our box. No-one anticipated the square ball that completely changed the angle of the delivery. Asleep at the wheel.

    Onwards and upwards.....

    Celtic v Motherwell

In a somewhat scrappy affair Celtic eventually prevailed over a stubborn Motherwell side who’s clever passing and movement, particularly in the second half belied their lowly league position.

After the initial midfield war of attrition Celtic made the breakthrough in the 17th minute when Evander Sno provide a slide rule pass into the path of Zurawski. He coolly slotted the ball past the exposed Motherwell stopper, however poor defending prevent a possible goal saving clearance.

As the second period progressed Motherwell enjoyed a period of sustained possession but were unable to convert this into clear cut chances. They were made to pay on 66 minutes when a sublime chip by Nakamura exposed a flat Motherwell defensive line. Zurawski showed power and pace, cleverly holding off the centre back’s challenge before imperiously driving the ball into the net.

Motherwell were not deterred however and countered with a strike from McDonald that old “friend” of Celtic, which led to a nervy last 15.

An inordinate amount of added on time follwed but Celtic held firm fairly comfortable.

It was perhaps inevitable following the high of Tuesday night that a comedown would follow but we must commend Celtic for maintaining a good enough level to get through this tricky fixture.

Srachan should also be commended for his fantastic achievement on a relatively small budget.

The future is bright – and to quote another scribe a “generation of domination” continues.

I would like to dedicate this article to DD and his sideboards

I enjoyed your translation when I tried to understand it. It makes me lough. It's funny, but sometimes makes sense. At least everybody knows what is it about. If it was your first step it was not bad. Do me a favour and make same gift next time.

Can anyone explain why we are being forced to play Kilmarnock on Sunday when we have the all important trip to Benfica on Wednesday?

Shirley the wellbeing of the club should take precedence of the Setanta schedule?

This game should be played next Saturday.

El D - unfortunately my "talents" have not been discovered by any of the broadsheets - or even any of the tabloids. Hypothetically speaking though, if i was headhunted by the Daily Record i would tell them where to go regardless of how "phat" a carrot they dangled in front of me. I know a guy who works for the record and he is a dilettante. Zybszek - So are u saying that being funny mainly doesnt make sense? Either way i love the line
"I enjoyed your translation when I tried to understand it". Genius

Yes EDB.5:0. But they didn't came out from a depression. I didin't see my game, but I did see your.
It looks I was right about Maciej a few days ago. Somebody said here he's a new man. I hope so, for the CHAMPIONS.
EDB. One thing irritates me always when I watch Celtic games? Why people leave the stadium before the game ends? I don't like it.

With baseball late nights and my workload at the moment, I can't remember yesterday.

So the chances of me remembering what I posted Wednesday morning after watching the CH67 replay twice are slim and zero.

    Ooops Slim just left town.

'GG who also traces his roots to Donegal, but has never been there.

Most of us on CQN agree with you regards people leaving their seats early. I don't understand why this is but it appears it will not change now.

    Hi all
I was at the game today and the tactics and attitude of Motherwell spoiled the game, ten out field players behind the ball at every opportunity tells me Malpas went to the MacLean school of football.
Utter dross and I can only imagine what it must be like to watch that every Saturday.
The referee was very lenient towards them regarding challenges from behind and MacDonald is a diving little cheat. He even made a gesture to the Lions stand when he scored.
Celtic obviously showed the signs of hard labour and the tempo was slow which helped them.

It is a frustration shared by many of us. With the game in the balance they should be there till the end to:

    a) Encourage the team to the very end.
    b) Applaud them off the field.

Well what did I say about a brace for Majic today. Pity my hattrick for Miller was well of beam though.

    Ist half superb.

2nd half highlight was the Naka dummy on the Well left back which left the poor guy fouling himself. Priceless!

Can anyone confirm if there was a definite hand ball for the disallowed goal just before H/T? Had a good view of it and didn't see any contact.

    El Diego,Zybszek,,Gavil-

I think the early leavers situation will improve when the transport links around Celtic Park come up to 21st Century standards.

It is not unheard of to still be within 100 yards of Celtic Park an hour after the final whistle-stuck in traffic.

I park about a mile from the ground and this helps me get away-after staying the duration of the match.

The poor people who left early on Wednesday night night missed an enthralling climax and fantastic celebrations at the end.

    and a goal.....

Ask the club to sell central seats at lowest price, and at highest price seats from stands which are not in eyes of cameras. Rich people will go there anyway. Snobbery is only the money question.
