Kilmarnock the calm before the storm of Lisbon

Sunday away to Kilmarnock is the calm before the storm of the next ‘biggest game of the season’ for Celtic in ‘The Town We Loved So Well’.

Kilmarnock have a truly dreadful record against Celtic, having failed to record a victory in Glasgow for over 50 years, though they usually make troublesome opponents at home.

I am torn on how best a team should approach such a game, especially with the squad so ravaged by injury. Do you rest players, perhaps inviting a more difficult challenge for those playing, or do you go with your best available team, irrespective of the consequences?

‘Can’t make my mind up, but I am sure Gordon will be resting no one.

October has been very kind to Celtic, with victories in all games while our erstwhile opponents have withered like a summer fruit. If November starts in the same manner we are assured of a historic season.

I found it interesting at the AGM yesterday that Brian Quinn used the exact same phrase Frank McGarvey used here, describing Peter Lawwell as “Celtic’s best signing”.

Three years into the job he has turned around many faltering aspects of the club, most importantly the financial haemorrhage that caused so much trauma.

Our thanks to David Quinn for compiling and presenting the Celtic Quick News Podcast 27 October 2006.

    I agree with Truetim.

Although, with the big games coming thick and fast, the temptation is there to leave out key players and give fringe players a chance, I think he'll opt for continuity (sp).

Paul appologies for drawing this out (and reposting from end of last thread ) but on the wrong end of an accusation of being RACIST - i feel the need for right of reply. It shall be the last.

    Pibroch 11.58 you wrote -

Maybe if you hadn't been so quick to jump to his defence yesterday and start the name-calling you might have spotted this little inconsistency. And no, I have not changed my opinion about you.

    Citibhoy 4.58 yesterday

    The World has gone Mad!!!

Racist - a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits & capabilities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

Whilst not to enamoured with the KOJO style or this piece in particular it is in no way racist... condescending perhaps insulting probably BUT RACIST no....

Can the PC brigade please stop hijacking words and twisting definitions.

(thats my piece in all its gory detail)

Now where am i jumping to KOJO's defence - i explicitly state that its condescending and insulting,

However I reiterate that it isnt racist - never was - never will be. You can twist/add and contort what was written and what you and others supposed but it doesnt change things.

Your stance im afraid is absolutley that of the PC brigade - Namely that you clssify certain groups or categories of people/s as victims in need of protection from criticism & therefore forbid any expression of dissent.

Your position sir and that of other subscribers to such a philosphy is a calamitous folly for human development and enlightenmnet.

My last words - Ill leave it to others to judge who is ''ignorant'' -including a few on here who know me a bit better than you.

Gordon doesn't like to change the defence unless he has to so you would imagine those 5 will be the same as usual.

Up front if Jan and Craig are still injured we don't really have an option other than to go with Kenny and Majic.

So it would appear that midfield might be the only area to change. Is Tommy G still injured? If so it will be two from Lenny, Sno and Pearo in the middle. On the flanks two from Shaun, Aiden, Naka and Riordan.

My guess is that with a free midweek this week we'll see no changes from last Saturday but hope to have the game comfortable so that changes can be made around 70-75 minutes.

I think Gordon will go with his strongest available team, Paul.

Momentum is key here- each win increases confidence, which leads to better performances, which leads to more wins. I don't think he'll want to interrupt our virtuous cycle.

    Prediction: Kilmarnock 0 Celtic 3.

If no one is being rested then it could mean playing in three big games in a row,the Ayrshire Agriculture[a],Benfica[a],and then the Shambles[h].Before the DUtd game I would have thought the player to rest would have been Naka,as his away form in the SPL had been patchy. So I think it's off to SemiChem for an extra large bottle of horse liniment and send out the following:

    AB+
    Telfmeister[we are not worthy
    Caldavaro
    Mick
    Naylsie
    Naka
    E-Sno
    The Skipper
    Shaunaldinho
    MZ
    Highlife,
which means this is probably the team that will start in Lisbon.

Unfortunately I don't think SM will sign a new contract. This is a GlassHalfEmpty view I know but the past few weeks have seen a string of unexpected moonbeams turn up behind the Settee so no need to fix things that ain't broke.

Paul - good header - I find these games a little annoying - but obviously they have to be played.

Annoying as whilst we have a much much stronger squad than a year ago (winning 3-0 against Benfica without 2 of our top 3 summer signings (and not playing the other one))I worry about injuries to key people - for the Benfica game Boruc , Miller and Naylor.

I expect the Kili game to be very tight and we may need to come from a goal down to win.

Once we've won (without injuries) we have a glorious 3 days of anticipation to look forward to the real deal.

If we take anything from the Benfica game then I would make it the most important result for the Club since the UEFA cup run as a point or more would mean more to us than any other gained in the CL previously.

Pablophanque - your post of 4.37am last thread was well well worth saying. I think the vast majority of folk appreciate what Paul67 puts into this blog and because you appreciate it and say so shouldn't mean you are called PC/apologist or whatever other rubbish.

Guessings Noel90 reference to baby droppings means you ain't home and dry yet....:-((

This is what the manager gets paid for.

I can only see two questions though?

Pearson or Sno (Graveson is still unfit I believe)

    Shaun or Aiden?

I reckon it will be Sno and Shaun.

If I were being more adventourous it would be Lenny and Naka in the middle with Shaun and Aiden either side of midfield. Naka in the holding midfield role of course:-)

Seriously though the diamond shaped midfield should be seriousaly considered for home games. Either one of Naka, Shaun or Aiden could play in the wide areas or in the forwrd midfield role behind the strikers.

However not for Killie! Sno and Lenny in the middle thank you very much.

    Dear fellow dreamers

On Shaun and the question of him signing or not, I assume that what we get on here are opinions and educated guesses. i.e. No one has any real inside info!

If I am wrong on that matter, could someone just tell me that they have a nifty on whichever way the decision goes and that it is based on kosher info!

I will then follow suit, and if it doesn’t come to fruition, I reserve the right to reclaim my losses through the tai-kwan-do debt recovery company.

Apologies to those who don’t like gambling! Admittedly I am not keen on it either since I like certainties, but unfortunately there aren’t too many of those around, so anything from the horses mouth (not the sister’s boyfriend’s aunty Nelly’s binman please) would go somewhat towards putting dinner on the table of my adopted third world child (Kinning Park)leaving enough over to lay an ante in the Celtic poker room!

    Anyway.

Noel90 always seems to add wee bits to his name which rarely are too far off the mark, so I think that for no other reason than it is he who said it, that I will take comfort in his prediction.

However if I was to return to a logic based speculation I would assume that Shaun still has his options wide open and that these options are as follows:

    1. Celtic qualify for last 16: He signs irrespective of money on offer from elsewhere!
    2. Celtic don’t qualify: Money comes into it and to be honest Shaun probably won’t sign!

As for the game on Sunday, Gordon has said and I am sure we have no reason to disbelieve him, that he has no strongest or best 11. He picks and sets his stall according to the opposition.

It is reasonable to assume that he will not choose a team merely to rest players, but that he will send out an 11 that he expects to win the game. If this means that it gives players who will be needed on Wednesday night, a rest, then so be it. If he feels they are needed to win the game at Kilmarnock, they will play.

I just want to repeat that I know nothing, as if you can’t tell that from the above!

So I’ll probably go with Noel90 and round my bet up from a fifty to a full pound!

A couple of things about the Maloney siuation.

    1. He signs. Great.

    2. He doesn't. If this happens, I'll certainly be disappointed as he is undoubtedly a great wee player, with real potential, but if he chooses to leave then it will not be because we can't afford him, or because we have messed up the negotiations, as has happened often in the past.

No, if he chooses to leave it will be because the club places more value on a long-term strategy than short-term bad economics. IE, it will be a decision arising from the club's position of strength.

Maloney is a good player, who, at 23, has enjoyed approximately one good season. He deserves a good deal, but not a ridiculous one.

I for one am glad that PL seems to be keeping the whole thing in perspective here.

I think it would be wise of Strach to start Marshall in goal and give big Artur a rest, at the same time gicew Marsh some needed work. If we do go onto last 16 and and further it would prove invaluable for him to get extra work in now.

So far Strachan has done more than indicate he likes to play 1 up front on occasions away from home.

Instead of the Zarosik then a striker (nonsense), why doesnt he try Miller or Zurawski (whichever would stay put in the middle for this style) then play Mcgeady and Maloney as neither strikers or midfielders, then play Naka, Sno and Lennon in the middle.

It would be worth a try, and with the attacking options all bombing forward in all directions and from every part of the pitch screaming forward, Kilmarnock may go into a shell (at home) terrified of being hit by a lightening quick counter attack (as we have showed we can do against the very best (yeah loved saying that!)

It would then give Strachan food for thought in his approach for Tuesday.

If they show it can work, and McGeady and Maloney, who have already proved they are more than willing to track back when necessary, can work together and switching across with each other, then it gives us an option C.
We would be doing more work off the ball than if we had a striker and Jarosik.

If on the other hand, Strachan fancies Zurawski and Miller up front together on Tuesday, then play them together on Sunday. They are both full of confidence and another game together could be exactly what they need.

I wouldnt worry about fatigue as we usually would playing a euro game so soon after a league game, because they have had a nice long week, injuries is the only concern.

Which brings me back to what i wanted to do for the Motherwell game, the places we have no cover whatsoever for, which i think is only Lee Naylor. The guy has become so important not only because of the balance he gives us, but because he is a mightily fine player (please note the humble pie eating as i tell everyone who will listen how great i think he is/will become!)

An injury to him, would be more costly than to McGeady or Maloney for an away game vs a very angry, embarassed, eager and busting to go Benfica team

Rumours that Chick Jung is presently rehashing his Celts in Crisis article (On Hold since October '05) and typing Hearts where applicable are completely true. Although he has admitted to finding problems making this article flow seamlessly into a ominous warning for both Hearts and Celtic as Rangers take this opportunity, coupled with Celtic's doomed, pathalogical and morally wrong pre-occupation with European football, to win the treble. I think gord will and should play his strongest possible team. These games aren't always a walk in the park and I don't think we should leave anything to chance. Hopefully, we can get a couple of goals up and maybe bring on one or two but ultimately, we're not even half-way through the season and with the exception of Telfer and Lennon, the side isn't exactly old. I think it always helps to have a settled first team. Look at O'Neill, if everyone was fit, the team picked itself. Take a look at Benitez's Liverpool side to see what "resting" players every week can do to a team.

I broadly agree with your sentiments - best thing all round would be for SM to sign on again with the Bhoys.

However a couple of things should be pointed out - I think the '1 good season' patter is ironic as we are heralding Miller and McGeady on the basis of far less than that - a few weeks of decent performances in my view. If anyone deserves to be best paid at Parkhead among these 'young guns' sure it is Shaun?

Begining to wonder if the reported 25K/week demands are a damage limitation exercise by Peter Lawwel to offset any unrest if Shaun goes elsewhre. I doubt he's asking for more than 16-18k /week, a sum he can reasonable expect to better by leaving the club and going elsewhere.
However, it could be that we don't hear until February when Maloney's contractual obligation to his former agent ends?

I suspect he may sign for an EPL team in January.

Paul Le Guen dies.... (bearing in mind this is a joke, i bear no ill-will to PLG outwith his current capacity as manager of the wee team from Glasgow) ...and goes to heaven, St Peter welcomes at the Pearly gates and shows him round.

    Finally, St peter says:
"Do you want to see were you'll stay?"
    "Oui" PLG replies.
So he takes him up to the huge house, white picket fence, blue grass, red path etc. Union Jacks on every turret.

Inside every room, red white and blue, all good gear, however PLG is more than surprised.

He say " But I was manager of Glasgow Rangers, I did not expect
    to be treated so well"

St peter " Ah! look out the back"

    He does............
A house ten times the size, Green white and Gold. Tri-colours everywhere, Celtic flags everywhere, Club crest everywhere made of real Gold, the whole shootin match.

PLG " Is that Gordon Strachan's House?"

    St Peter " Naw that's God's House"

I can't help but be relaxed about the Shaun Maloney situation, safe in the knowledge that the only way he will leave is if he is being absolutely stupid in his demands.

This oft quoted Liam Miller disaster is a falsehood - it was Liam Miller who made the mistake, not Celtic.

This year, we resigned our prize asset then maximised our returns on him when he regretted it. We targeted players from big clubs and moved when the time was right to bring them.

As for Sunday, we are playing the team who just extended our lead at Tynecastle so all respect must be paid. Full strength team, no doubts about it.

Only temptation would be Jarosik for Sno and McGeady for Maloney. Gordon informed me the other day that Tommy is 3 weeks away from fitness so alot still to be asked of the Real Deal.

After (nearly) calming down regarding what was said about the signing at away games(at the AGM) and how the media picked up on it.

Paul pointed out that Mr Quinn had chosen his words very carefully - well obviously not carefully enough!

The headline in a so called quality newspaper of " Vile Sectarian Songs" ?? and a ITV Teletext headline of " Lawwell to get tough on Bigots!" makes out that we have a major problem - which cannot be further from the truth.

Even if Brian Quinn chose his words extremely carefully and Mr Lawwells words were taking well out of context - They should as leaders of our great institution take far greater care (by saying WE HAVE THE GREATEST SUPPORT IN THE WORLD AND WE`VE GOT THE HONOURS TO PROVE IT!) - In fact it has now been brought up so many times I`m beginning to think I go to different games with a different support and support a different team !!!

The fact is, very few comments throughout a lengthy, satisfactory and productive AGM related to negative matters.

The radio decides to pick up on a single comment (singing) and a couple of comments relating to a player resigning (Maloney).

The AGM lasted quite a while, and yet topics that took up an aggregated 3-4 minutes time dominate the press.

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you

One game at a time, but how many of you are already thinking about Lisbon? Rugby Park is same old, same old, isn't it?

Rugby Park is always a tough ask and WGS will be doing brilliantly if he gets us truly up for it, which we'll need to be. Strongest available 11 please, we only get nights like Lisbon because we win the league.

Vinnie, some direct quotes from Peter Lawwell, from the very article with the"vile sectarian...."headline screaming at us.

    Apparently after the AGM.

"Celtic are different, to the extent we have strong Irish roots and Irish links," said Lawwell. "A proportion of our fans celebrate those roots and links by singing Irish ballads. In no way could these ballads be described as sectarian, but I think in some quarters it is misinterpreted as sectarian. It is not sectarian behaviour. There is a difference there. We are a proud Scottish club, but with strong Irish connections. It's a fact and we don't want to hide it."

"We have had no threat or remote suggestion that UEFA are looking at Celtic, so all we can go on is what has been suggested and delivered elsewhere," added Lawwell. "We have to be proactive to eliminate any potential threat, because, fundamentally, sectarianism is wrong.

"I believe our supporters are second to none. It's not just a boast - we can substantiate it through the awards they received from FIFA and UEFA. There is, however, a very small proportion of our away support who offensively chant songs that are contrary to what the club stands for. It embarrasses the club, it is unacceptable and we have a very firm plan to stamp it out. We do not want to be categorised as a club that has a sectarian problem. UEFA are very, very serious about this. There will be some sporting or financial sanctions on the club if we don't address it."

Don't think he could be any clearer.

The BBC are a disgraceful institution imho.

The introduction last night 'Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn appealed to the fans to stop sectarian signing' cuts to Peter Lawwell talking about Celtic not being tarnished with the image as a Sectarian club.

Then late last night Question Time, featuring the despicable Janet Street Porter.

Most respected media institution in the world, that statement has as much integrity as the '100 years of unsurpassed dignity' blunder.

I was watching "Sky Sports News" this morning, and I noticed that Quinton Fortune is out injured.

It got me too cast my mind back to the summer, when we were being heavily linked to both him and the bold Jimmy Floyd.

Do you think/know that we REALLY were interested in signing one or both of them, or were they just a distraction, as the real business went on elsewhere?

Cheers in advance, my good man!!

does it look normal on the ipod side - does the ipod display change to reflect the fact that youve plugged it in?if not sounds like cable or ipod it'self, maybe try different cable

From the very start Celtic Football Club should have came out all guns blazing - stating that we have no problem - and our support is 99.9%better than most - and we have the honours to prove it.

We are giving oxygen to a media who are breathless for a bad Celtic story............Give it a rest for God sake.

Just checked out the Scotsman article.

What seems to have happened is the typical approach of sub-editors taking small parts of a story and using them to spice up the headline of a mundane story that has already been done by all the other papers.

A shameful but all too frequent practice in the 4th estate.

On the same site I see a pic of Mr Pressley trying a bit too hard to look like Che Guevara. He should be careful though about getting on the wrong side of his boss: look at how Che ended up.

Thanks for the answers aboot the clocks.

They are attemting to bring in daylight saving here for a three year"trial"(in the summer of course).

We don't have it here because apparently,"an extra hour of sun everyday will fade the curtains"

    Another one was,

"The kids will have to walk home from school when the day is hotter"

Despite the fact that kids very rarely walk anywhere here, and since when have you heard kids complaining about it being hot and sunny.

But the best ones come from the farmers.

"The cows won't know when to come in for milking"

    and

"the chicken will be confused in the morning"

I suggested taking the watches off the cows and the chickens then they wouldn't be confused.

But that didn't go down too well with the rural types.Anyway heres hoping it stays,as it means the time difference will remain seven hours for most of the season as opposed to eight, which helps a great deal when watching the games. That is far more important than mere food production problems!

Not to put a dampener on any forthcomings but I would be very wary about this coming week...

We have yet to achieve anything of note away from home in the Champions League. Yes our form so far bodes us well but before we get carried away, we have played bigger teams that Copehagen and Benfica on other CL campaigns and beaten them at home! Yet failed to achieve anything away so just bring ourselves down a peg or two because the attitude right now, although brilliant it, can only add pressure to our lads!

Having said that I have felt just CHAMPION copyright BAZ67 this last week or so but am just a bit aprehensive of getting too far ahead of myself just yet.

Here's to us getting our next three results in the bag and setting us up for a memorable season.

It was NOT Brian Quinn or any other member of The Celtic Board that made the "vile" comment.

It was a supporter asking a question about "a small minority of the away support.".

Get on to the BBC website for hilarious news about Hearts RIP FC.
Preessley, Hartley and Gordon held a press conference to talk about turmoil in the dressing room due to "certain colleagues".
Now Romanov has hit back with this.
Honestly, I'm not making this up ...

Hearts' majority shareholder has warned his players that they are all for sale if they do not win this weekend.
And captain Steven Pressley responded with a statement voicing the players' unhappiness at affairs at the club.
Vladimir Romanov says he will move the players on to "Kilmarnock or whatever club will take them" unless they defeat Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday.
And he has warned that he would then play a team of youngsters against Celtic the following weekend.

    Flats, flats, glorious flats!!!!

People keep going on about Maloney and McGeady competing for the left sided midfield position. Olay them both.

I watch most of the under 21 games and quite a lot of youth games.McGeady was never a left side midfielder in these teams.

There is no reason why he can't fill the attacking role played by Stan Petrov. He is growing stronger with every game and with his new found relish for tracking back, allied to his sheer skill in midfield, and his ability to get beyond the strikers, he is the perfect attacking central midfielder

    Hi Paul,
Once again I'm using a fair chunk of your blog but I think the info is worth it.
FARE Action Week peaks during forthcoming weekend

    (27 October 2006)
The 7th annual FARE Action Week against racism and discrimination will reach its second peak this weekend.

PSV lead the way in Holland
Leading Dutch club PSV Eindhoven organised an anti-racism day at the home match against Sparta Rotterdam on 25th October. This was the fourth time PSV had joined the FARE Action Week. The match day programme featured a special on the fight against racism; captain Phillip Cocu read a letter with an anti-racism message and the teams of PSV and Sparta posed for a picture, showing a banner against racism.

Arsenal and Sheffield support Kick It Out
In England Arsenal FC fans will raise cards reading “Arsenal for everyone” in the clubs colours in their new stadium to support the campaign organised by FARE partner Kick It Out. On the same day, on 28th October, Sheffield United and FARE partner FURD have created a fan choreography spelling out the message “Football Unites” at the match against Premiere League champion Chelsea FC.

Activities in Cyprus, Hungary, Romania and Moldova
For the first time the Cyprus Footballers Association starts with a campaign during the FARE Action Week. All matches of the forthcoming weekend will be dedicated to the fight against racism.

Hungarian second league club Ferencvaros TC will go on the field with members of the refugee counselling Mahatma Gandhi Human Rights Organisation and the coordinator of the “All Different All Equal” campaign of the European Council will hold a short speech before kick-off. In the first league the Hungarian Players Association organised that at all matches the players will wear anti-racism t-shirts for warm up, two children will present a FARE banner at line up.

In Romania the Football Federation together with the Roma Initiative Office, the Monitoring Press Agency, National Council Against Discrimination and European Roma Grassroots Organisation will hold a series of actions meant to stimulate social dialogue and promote tolerance and fair-play through football. At all nine matches taking place from 27-29 October banners will be displayed by the players before kick-off. The players and referees will wear t-shirts with the campaign's logo for warm-up.

Fatima, a NGO of African migrants, aims to promote tolerance and friendship in Moldavian football and will organise matches between ethnic minority teams, refugees and youths during the second weekend of the FARE Action Week.
    Women and football
The women’s team from German Bundesliga club Hannover 96 will organise an action day with the support of the fan project. Brochures and buttons with the topics “Women and football” will be distributed. On the cover of the brochure the migrant players of Hannover 96 carry a FARE banner. The slogan for the picture is: “Women for more tolerance and less discrimination in football”. The brochure will also contain information about FARE and the network as well as interviews with players concerning the topics racism, sexism and xenophobia within football.

50 meters against racism in Bern
“Together against racism”, a fan club from Young Boys Bern, will produce a 50 meter long banner for the first league match against FC Zurich. The match day programme will feature an article on the FARE Action Week and an anti-racism spot will be shown on the video screen. Additionally the fan club plans a choreography and will distribute 20000 postcards with the team and FARE logo.

    Follow-up in Israel
The FARE Action Week will have some follow-ups, e.g. on 4th November in Israel where for the first time a group enriches the Action Week with its participation. The NGO “New Israel Fund” will organise that one hundred youngsters will parade on the pitch wearing “Let's Kick Racism Out of Israeli Football” t-shirts along with the two teams at the match Beitar Jerusalem vs. Maccabi Haifa.

The FARE Action Week ends on Monday, 30th October, and saw more than 1000 single activities in 37 European countries. A record of 14 European top leagues dedicated their league matches to the fight against racism, including Austria, Germany, England, Scotland, Belgium, Cyprus, Macedonia, Malta, Slovenia, Romania and Norway.

    Interesting post.

Had a look at the website and in particular at Germany as I've had first hand experience of problems in Dresden and Leipzig. These places are amongst those doing something.

In fact numerically Germany and Austria appear to have the most events.

One off things will always help but this appears to be quite a push.

Never thought we'd still be having to push in the 21st century right enough.

The “UEFA Champions League”, will kick-off the 7th Action Week. Europe's top football stars will help to spread the message too as they stand united against racism. All 32 teams taking part in the UEFA Champions League will show their opposition to racism as part of UEFA's contribution to the FARE Action Week. Activities will include the captains of all the teams wearing Unite Against Racism armbands, player-escort children sporting Unite Against Racism T-shirts, announcements being made to fans in stadiums over the loudspeaker calling for opposition to all forms of racism, and Unite Against Racism adverts being placed in match day programmes as well as the official UEFA Champions League magazine Champions.

The defence is much improved but will need strengthening in January.
It may be that we will be saying to potential players that they will be part of the squad, rather than automatic first choices;perhaps leaving some high earners sitting on the bench.

Looking at our current injuries if E-Sno and MZ continue to do well, and the team is prospering, then JVH and TG may have to wait their turn to get back in.[Unlikely, maybe, but not impossible].Even Marco might find it hard to dislodge Hoopslegend Paul Telfer when the time comes

I am contemplating takeing some precautionary action by finishing off a whole bottle of Valium tomorrow morning just in case.

This weekend if Hearts send out a weakened team i,e one without Pressley, Gordon & Hartley and lose to Dunfermline Rangers lose to Motherwell and we beat Kilmarnock. Then it might be far far too much excitement for me.

Does Valim inhibit spasmodic induced endorphine euphoric seizures ? I am getting a little worried about this scenario as I dont want to do anything that might jeopardise me for Lisbon.

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD POST ALSO FOR ALL THOSE LISBONITES. Next Wednesday and Thursday are holidays in Portugal I am led to believe. I think you should check if it´s a Bank Holidays etc. as that may well be inconvenient for some.

No fresh milk, andrex toilet roll etc etc.

Any action taken against Wisla is good news to me. Personally I would like to see the club wound up, but maybe thats just me. Truth is, racism is sadly rife in Poland and action against one player is probably not so bad, worst case scenario is an entire support going overboard.

There is a real worry what action UEFA could take against some teams.

When you see White Power slogans at the train station at Auschwitz you know something is way, way, way wrong.

I'm not playing down your team's appearances in the UEFA Cup in it's present format, I would feel the same if it was Celtic, but I think the competition has lessened in interest over the last couple of years.

Some of the teams in the group stages are really not worth watching.

    Awe_Naw,

Should you happen to see a bottle of Irish whiskey through hazy and bloodshot eyes when celebrating our 6-0 win (as established by Celtic_First), I'd be honored for you to indulge yourself in lieu of my being their to partake. I am especially partial to Knappogue for celebrations, but Jameson's has never failed me as either - I'll be having one as well. Best,

I think the Heart`s manager has been givem a mountain to climb this time and would not at all be surprised to see him catch the long black limousine.

If Hearts can turn it around from here I can only say how great thou art to Mr Romanov for doing it his way.In fact although the manager has never been to Spain some of the big clubs will probably turn their Spanish eyes towards him.

Some may feel that you would need a wooden heart not to be touched by their plight but I have to say baby I do`nt care. The most likely outcome is that the manager and the club will go their seperate ways as there has been far too much monkey business at that establishment

Sussed you and your hidden agenda at last.

Even a deaf, dyslexic monkey could see that was a coded message to any Kilmarnock player reading this blog-telling them to go out and take FIVE off The Hoops.

I see the DNA of The Jeffriesmeister all over it...........

Sad news of four men from Fife losing their life on the seas in their fishing boat.

Celtic has a tradition of helping out fishing communities at such times of loss. Here's hoping.

EDB :- I tend to agree with you on that my opinion is that it's UEFA themselves who have devalued the competition with the format they now use for the C.L. Too many teams who are in the C.L should properly be in the UEFA cup, but as always big money and big leagues get their own way. After all we can't have teams losing out on C.L revenue just because they could only finish as low as fourth in their home league.
Noel90 :- Damn, over a year building my cover and now it's blown by the offspring of two puppets, as a matter of interest how does a Lanarkshire bloke come to understand Ayrshire code? Or are you wearing your Dads high tech specs again?

The Scotsman article today summed up in two square inches the agenda we have lived a lifetime with:-

"Gordon Strachan, the Celtic manager, has done a 'remarkable job', according to the club's chairman, Brian Quinn, whose only negative comments at the club's agm concerned bigoted chanting"

This was under a banner headline of "VILE SECTARIAN SONGS EMBARRASS CELTIC"

The art of spinning a negative from an overwhelmingly positive story about Celtic is alive and well among the 4th estate.

Keep up the good work on this site - the old media are tired and tiresome and the Celtic message is flourishing via the new technology.

The Miklos Feher gesture will bring Portugal and Hungary closer to the Celtic community to join a growing list of admirers the world over.
