Whats up with the blog?
-
Are there not any kids who can step up?
It's only Motherwell after all!
-
Motherwell are starting to pick up so we need to be very careful and patient and there can be no better game to pick Stephen Pearson for than this one. We need to make sure that unlucky 13 is hanging over some peoples heads come Sunday. Anyway Gordon its up to you.
P.s lets not forget that Paul telfer is 35 tomorrow. lets hear it for the lad.
-
Could O'dea not play LB?
Also FTLT-Fastest ever Celtic player-
Lennox?
Agathe?
Bellamy?
-
Reports from Spain indicate that Luis Aragonés is about to hand Nacho Novo his long awaited and long deserved call up to the national squad.
Luis Aragonés has advised that there is a lack of passion in the national squad at this moment in time and has identified Novo to spearhead their all but withering chances of qualification to the European Championships in 2008.
Novo was not available for comment last night after his clubs triumph in Italy but a Rangers FC insider, advised that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Celta Vigo are monitoring his situation.
Rangers are said to have valued Novo at 35m Euros.
Sources previously stated that Chelsea had ordered a scout to Celtic Park for the last Old Firm match to monitor Aiden McGeady but the truth is they were up to look at Nacho.
From her cast iron chair at her council flat in Madrid, Nacho's mother says, We are very proud of Ned (his mama's nickname for Novo)He will find it very difficult to move away from Glasgow. Since he signed for the famous Glasgow Rangers he has exceeded all our expectations, Mon the Hoops.......erm I mean We are the people.......
-
I'd like to thank......
Very kind of all of you to hang back for 90 minutes to allow me my second No1. Thanks guys!
-
Didn't mean to make that sound condescending towards Motherwell.
I meant that surely we have a suitable left back among the youths who can make the step-up for a one-off game. I mean it's not like it's Benfica or Man Utd!!!
I suppose Pearson or Thompson can fill in there at a stretch! Do we have a replacement RB among the youths?
We can't go 3-5-2. I don't think Nakamura could do the wingback role. Mind you, I reckon McGeady on one side and maloney on the other could!
-
Was it Naylor who cleared with a header at Benfica's corner leading to the second goal?
If so, that bull of a man, Luisao, clattered into him as he cleared. No wonder he's got a knock.
Good clearance by the way.
-
Have you been told this Paul or are you guessing? If your guessing, I'll breath a huge sigh of relief because you've got previous for getting team predictions wrong.
If Naylor can't play, It should be either O'dea or Thompson, who has been playing left back for the reserve's.
As for the right back, If Telfer Isn't fit, that's more of a problem because we only have young Caddis & I can't see WGS giving him a start.
-
Relax folks, trust in Ghord!
-
Naylor was injured when the twat of a centre back (can't remember his name!) clattered him early in the second half. He did this shortly after going through Magic from behind, yet didn't receive a booking. I thought the ref on Tuesday was very lenient, which is a shame as if their consistent fouling had been punished, it may have left them with a couple of suspensions before the end of the group stages.
It's a tough call for defence tomorrow if the full backs don't make it. Keep those fingers crossed that both declare themselves fit. I wonder if Aiden will be handed a start again - if fit he must be used as his form this season has been second to none. Anyone up for a nice mobile (though maybe too lightweight) midfield of
Maloney Sno Nakamura McGeady
It'd certainly be full of skill and although Naka can be a bit light, he showed at the world cup he's capable fo playing in the middle and I feel he's done some of his best work this season when roaming inside.
I really hope we continue Tuesday's form tomorrow - it won't be easy - league matches after champions league games never are. A strong win would not only be great for our confidence, but would further increase the pressure on the other lot at Love Street on Sunday.
-
We could play the old MON way, 3-5-2. The 3 and the 2 would be easy to pick, but what about the 5? Pearson Maloney Lennon Sno Nakumaru, then again what if Aiden's fit? I'm sure GS will get it right, he's in great form.
-
think Alan Thompson has been doing a shift at LB in the reserves would play him ahead of Pearson there, despite the Ginger prince's 110% attitude and strong late runs into the box - his positional sense is atrocious!
Can't afford to get complacent in the SPL, also we need to try and send Motherwell down to the first division this season!
-
Anyone know how long Graveson's out for?
Is it definitely a hamstring problem he's got?
-
With SM back and raring to go there's no need to rush AM back.
We play Benfica on Nov 1st,and Hearts on the following Saturday. They are the fixtures to focus on in terms of squad strength.
Playing JVH against DU didn't do him any favours.
-
I don't disagree for a minute....but why is there such vociferous disdain for Motherwell from many posters?
Being a relative young haun, i've not aware of any specific reason in my lifetime, except their constant managerial appointment of former Rangers players (MacLean, Davies, Butcher etc).
Don't get me wrong, i've no time for them and particularly the last few seasons have seen them develop into a team of 'if it moves, kick it, if it doesn't move, kick it anyway' hatchet men.
Anyhooooooo, Celtic 3, Motherwell 1.
-
Dontbratback:
Craig Beattie is supposed to be the fastest man at Parkhead. ( when fit of course)
-
KitBho-he can't be faster than Bellamy, even when fit.CB could accelerate like the Enterprise with a fresh set of dilithium crystals.
-
TheLeftWinger,
I suspect there's a healthy smattering of fellow Lanarkshire Bhoys among the CQNrs. The reversible scarf mentality of their fans is what riles most of us!!!
WishyTim
-
even with dilithium crystals whatever they are, Bellamy could still fall over his bottom lip.
-
TheLeftWinger
The racist and sectarian bile at Fir Park, the fact they only send 10 fans to Celtic Park even though they're only about 8 miles away, one of these fans always has a Union Jack as a pathetic wind-up attempt, the 8-1-1 formation, the rotate the kicker tactics, Tam Cowan, they've escaped relegation twice thanks to rule changes, Black Sunday and the delight they took in it, the attack on Ross Wallace by a fan at Fir Park, Tommy McLean, Terry Butcher, Billy Davies and Andy Goram, the fact they try and portray themselves as a "family club" despite my first point.........
-
MartinOBhoy,
That concise, yet accurate factual precis of the club confirms the many reasons why som many here wish bad things on the club.
I asked the question, i now have my answer(s).
Cheers bhoys, let absolutely gub them on Saturday and send their single bus load of fans home greetin'......so they can sort themselves out in time to go to the pub and support their other mob on Sunday on Setanta.
-
Wishy Tim
Does south lanarkshire count?
3-0 Celtic tomorrow with Caldwell scoring the first goal.
Got to laugh at Kris Boyd's quote on radio after the draw for the eufa cup was made, "there are no easy games, the best teams in Europe come together at the league stage"
Wel there is another competition to be considered, and then there's Livorno.
-
KitBho-and Beats could still tear his hamstring licking a stamp.Pure pace per se doesn't make you a good player but it can put the wind up the opposition.
The Welfare Mothers are steeped in shame and degredation but over the years they have given us:
Joe Mcbride
Dixie Deans
Brian Mcclair
Harry Hood
Andy Walker
Stephen Del Pearo.

Did ye notice at the Press Conference that Mr. Strachan, finally admitted what we have been hammering at, the last 2 Years......?
Sorta quote.......close enough.....ye can check fur yerself.
"Ah Don't hiv a FIRST TEAM!
Ah play whoever ah think has earned a place, according tae his PERFORMANCE, Lately........
Ye see that the team against Benfica had a few changes tae the week before.....
No,Ah don't Hiv a FIRST ELEVEN"
Fargo's standard inquisition, has met with many a rancorous riposte, by a few of the readers....
Maybe it will eventually penetrate....???
Sorry,guys.... But that's how it is, on Broadway!
"Whit hiv ye done fer me, Lately?"
And,remember when ye answer...we are takin' notes!
As we hiv constantly said....
Last week is last week!
Two weeks ago?.....Pshaw!...
Ancient Historee!!!!
Ergo~...Straighten up ....or ship out!
Does anyone have to be reminded......
Why is the the Celtic Manager building such a big squad?....we know that its not where he quite wants it.....yet!
There is the promise of a Jan influx, nevertheless.
The built in MUSAK PLAYER SYSTEM,in the Celtic Dressing room, these days, treats the players to this oldie, but goodie.....a la Nat...
"Straighten up and fly right (rpt..)
Cool down Papa, Don't ya Blow Yer Top!"
Says it all...... Really!... who said that?
-
Kittochboy,
Didn't Hood come from Sunderland via Clyde?
Phil O'Donnel would be another to add to the list though.
W M Belafonte
-
Your what have you done for me lately strategy would have had The outstanding Kenny Miler shipped out before he hit top form.
Stick to Baseball guy's.
-
WildMonty
Don't know about how Hood arrived, not that old you know. Someone will soon tell us.
But Tom Boyd can go on this ever growing list.
Kittoch
-
Anyway,we're not building a big squad. We're replacing the outgoing Martinistas with a mixture of younger, older, faster, slower, better and inferior players.
-
dontbrattback, what about one of my personal faves Paul Lambert
-
Jackd
I have decided to ignore the churlish sarcasm......this time.
Remember,my friend......
Mr. Strachan is askin' the question in the box....not I.
I really should not have to point this out...but for your sake...I shall make an exception....
OBVIOUSLY, MR. STRACHAN WAS WELL SATISFIED WITH MR. MILLER's PERFORMANCE!
And, oddly enough.....
That's what really counts,after all.
-
Bye all
Off to the pub, enjoy the game tomorrow
Kittoch
-
Have to agree with jackd,
As far as I can recall, Adis Ababa claimed on here recently that Kenny Miller was finished as a striker at Parkhead,
Whats your thought now AA?
-
Oldtim
Re Tully's corners. My only recollection is of reading it in the match report but none of the details.
On the Stein teams finishing the game in the first 30 minutes, I well remember getting in late due to the turnstyle queues and running up the terracing with a few minutes gone and asking what the score was.
We had a habit of scoring goals very early and very late.

Afternoon all,
Interesting comments from Pearo, saying he will think about leaving in January. It would be a shame if he went, think he is a decent player - he was really good when he first came - but we just have better players in the side at the moment. Good luck to him if he does move on but hopefully he stays, because as he showed on Tuesday he is a very useful squad player.
Addis Ababa,
This is the best squad of players we've had for some time. The players who came in on Tuesday showed we have a real strength-in-depth in our squad, something that dare I say MON's side didn't have too much of. But to drop players after one bad or indifferent game would be crazy, we need to have a stable first XI who are all comfortable with each other. Just because WGS now has good backup doesn't mean he should turn into the tinkerman.
Finally did anyone listen to Clyde last night after the Huns game? With the way they were talking - "Rangers fans are in dreamland" - you would've thought they just beaten a GOOD European side, like say...Benfica!
MJ88
-
P'face-one of the few enlightened things the Mothers of Retention did was to allow Lambo to go to Dortmund, win a EC medal, thus setting him up for a brilliant career at CP with the chance to play alongside the KofK,and even beat him at snooker.
-
Addis
I certainly questioned the coterie on the 'What have you done for me lately?' question, but I think Kojo - with whom I was jousting at the time - would stick up for me if I say it was without rancour.
The point is, when Gordon Strachan asked that question of Kenny Miller in recent weeks, he clearly arrived at a different answer from the coterie's. As you say, it's Strachan's view that counts.
Maybe it means the question is valid - but only if you include what people have done in training, in their preparation, what they have said for themselves away from the public glare, what they have said to others in the camp.
Maybe it means it is fair to ask that question, but only if your the person in possession of all the details that will go into a fair answer - Gordon Strachan.
-
Just to go off topic slightly but on the official website under the story 'Great Souvenir of Benfica Win' - what a photo they have. It shows Kenny Miller running off after scoring - but look at big Evander. How happy is he?? Great photo. If i knew how to post links i would but here is the detail:

..Vic Davidson, did he come from the welfare? Vague recollections of this guy from the mists of the 70's.
-
for god sake lets not risk making any injuries worse, especially A. When its not absolutely necessary and B. For players we have no direct replacements for i.e Lee Naylor.
Leave him to sit this one out.
McManus can play left back and Bobo can come in.
Its not right on Bobo if O'Dea came in.
Sit Sno out for this one, we have to tread very carefully with this one so the 19 year old doesnt all of a sudden expect to be a 1st teamer, let Pearson play in his place.
Just those 2 changes from Tuesday.
Leave McGeady out too, for a player where so much of his game is twisting and turning, the wee ligaments in an ankle you might not use for 85% of the time just might be tweaked.
Still on cloud 9 by the way!!
-
Dbrattback also by all accounts give the KofK the lend of his deodorant.
don't ask how I know this
Henke also returned the favour by picking him up for training so his car didn't get dirty
-
Awnawgub,
You evidently wrote your submission, before reading my ultimate reply.....if not.... please do so.
I agree with your observation that the coterie did not think very much of Mr.Miller's performances as a Striker.....
And may I say here at this time...... WE STILL NOT DO!!!!!!!
Inasmuch,as we were judging Mr. MILLER in the EXPECTED CAPACITY of an OUT AND OUT STRIKER......subsequently,however, we discovered that that was not Mr. MILLER'S FORTE.......
Therefore, once it was realized that we were judging Mr. Miller's performances against the WRONG CRITERIAN.......
We have indeed lauded Mr.MILLER on his other sterling attributes..... but I repeat...
HE IS NOT OUR IDEAL..... AS SOLELY, A STRIKER.
Nevertheless, on his performances as An ASSISTER...... he brings a heckava lot to the Table......
In BASEBALL PARLANCE...for the Cogniscenti in such......
HE IS A DARN FINE TABLE SETTER......for the rest of the OFFENSE!
Under these new set of circumstances, we are well pleased with MR.MILLER's Recent HEROICS!
-
Kittochbhoy,
We are all family! In the real sense - not the self-styled family-club sense!! Relegation for the family club!!!

Addis Ababa, I did notice Gordon denying the existence of a first eleven. How times have changed down Kerrydale Street.
Interesting also to note his reluctance to “tinker” with the defence.
Awnawgubbed, on the subject of Kenny Miller, Addis imposed his regular question, “what have you done for me lately?”
He is a tough audience, but you knew that anyway.
MJ88, I was surprised to hear Stephen Pearson be so frank about possibly leaving, though I suspect that he will not hold down a regular starting place for Celtic.
-
Celtic First...
The "rancour" insert was ineluctably, NOT directed at you.... nevertheless, there are the sarcastic members of this forum who certainly earn that appellation, and it is to be applied to their childish protests......
I find your summation of my recent post in question, to be an accurate and most acceptable one, from my point of view.
The querulous question will indeed, be coming from the lips of the Celtic Manager....
And therefore, the answer to it, shall be considered by him, and him alone......
Makes sense to me....... anyway!
In concluding........
I am in agreement with your now understanding of what the coterie is driving at...
One is only as good as one's last performance........
And as the Squad Enlarges and Improves.........
One will only be as good as one's last 15 minute performance.....
Don't believe, me........?
Watch this space!
-
Adis / Paul,
Its all about opinions guys, and they need to be diverse to keep this blog interesting,
I think that Kenny Miller will be as big a hit at Parkhead as Kenny Dalglish was - maybe even bigger.
Hope so anyway.
-
WildMonty :- Harry Hood did come from clyde though I don't know about Sunderland, I remember a league game against Clyde where he was head and shoulders above the rest of his team mates, if I remember correctly the final score was 6 - 1 with H. Hood scoring the clyde goal though I may be wrong in that detail.

Team for the mora if the full backs dont make.Gaz Caldwell could play right back, he has played there for Hibs n Scotland.Bobo n Mick have played many times together unlike Gaz n Bobo.Pearson could play on the left.his passing is to slack to play in the centre.Sno n Lennon in the middle.
Just want to had that i was full of dread when Wilson got injured but Telfer has been good.Well done to him!

On the subject of early goals. My dad never left the pub in New City Road on a Saturday before last orders. Half two in those days. Despite rushing like mad never made the kick off. Joined me in the Celtic end for a Third Lanark match to find he had missed not one, not two, not three but four Celtic goals. To add insult to injury Third Lanark scored four in the last 75 minutes to make the score 4-4 at full time. Did this make him change his ways? Not a bit of it. At 86 he does not get to the matches now but still supports Celtic and J. Arthur Guinness although in what order I could not swear!

Awenaw,
I welcome your submissions, as as you sagely have observed... "it is all about opinions"...... that is why it becomes irksome..... when an insulting tone is offered when disagreement takes place, between posters.
No need for that type of childishness.
There are plenty of other Forums.... who are crying out for petitioners of those type of "one liners"
There is nothing that I welcome more than an difference of a point of view... it would be, as you say...very unsatisfactory,indeed...if we were all in total agreement.
Much as I hate to admit it.... even the coterie does not always have the high ground in a discussion..... we have our ups and we have our downs....
But don't tell anybody that I said that!

Re the squad, and its current strength.
I'm probably missing a few due to advancing age but since the turn of the year[approx.]-
Out:
Agathe,DuWei,Keane,Sutton,Hartson,Wallace,Varga,Petrov.
In:
Sno,Gravesen,JVH,Jarosik,Caldavaro,Miller,Naylor,Wilson.
So quantitatively the numbers equilibrate;in terms of quality it's too early to judge.
P/face -there was a TV documentary on Henrik.PL seemed to be his best mate at the club;he must have recognised another serious footballer.
DDSboard-did Vic Davidson[one of the Quality Street Kids]not go from Celtic to the Mothers of Destruction, only to be brought back by Billy Mcneill?

I hope Kojo is checking the official site, today....
Poker Tourney!
I may even try a hand or two, myself...but because of the U.S. embargo on on-line poker transaction, I may be stymied....
However, Kojo can still participate... Thro' UBS...
Not a problem for he.
I must give him a buzz.... He is a Poker afficianado, plus.

Thanks for confirming the day (Saturday) that the game v Falkirk took place in season 1952/53. We got knocked out at Ibrox (2-0) in the next round. I enjoyed your earlier posts and the graphic description that captured so well the Tully corners miracle. I look forward to your future posts. Your sense of recall will hopefully, help counterbalance the occasional outbreaks of false memory syndrome from some of the regular posters among your contemporaries.

Addis,
If you guy's have only just realised that Kenny Miller Isn't an out and out striker then again I question your football knowledge. Kenny Miller has never been prolific. His workrate and unselfishness is second to none though.
-
Leabgarrow
I will set you straight on this one...
You are way, way off,my friend.
Paul does not know me from Adam.... or Eve....for that matter!
If you care to review my initial posting re Mr. Strachan's startling....to some!... admission at this morn's press conf......
You will find to your utter consternation and vexation....
THAT I HAD SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSED THAT PARTICULAR MISSIVE........ TO PAUL!!!!!!!!!
Paul's last submission was in reference to that SUBMISSION.....
Get this and get this CLEARLY....
Paul has no clandestine truck, with the coterie....
I am going into some detail..... as I wish to make that point
PERFECTLY CLEAR!
And if you take the trouble to go the Chan67 ...Free
You will find to your utter amazement, that what I said regarding the statement by Mr. STRACHAN....that .... HE HAS NO FIRST TEAM..... Is absolutely true......
Paul was only, politely, confirming what I had said......and rightly so.....regarding Mr. Strachan's startling admission..... It was an INNOCENT, REPLY!...no more, no less!
-
Jackd,
You are a persistent, fellow.
As far as my Soccer Knowledge being condemned on the flimsy reason that I was not aware that Mr. Miller was never known to be an out and out Striker......
Of that fact I plead guilty.
But one must admit that that lack of knowledge, surely is a very stringent test of my soccer acumen.
I ask you?
I am sure if you ask around you will find that I was not alone in that misapprehension.
In point of fact, what you are really saying is.....
How dare I, offer an opinion... as I have not vast amount of experience and years of soccer viewing, as you are heir to.......maybe so......
I am sorry, to intrude my inexperienced opinions on your much more qualified pontifications on that revered subject.
Pardon me for living.

Addis,
I'm a young man and don't have a fraction of the knowledge of some of the poster's on this very site.
And of course you have as much right to voice your opinions as I have. I just don't always agree with the "what have you done for me lately" statement.
I like to think that all new players should be given time to settle and get used to there new team mates & sometimes new culture.
I'm glad to say that I have backed Kenny Miller & Gary Caldwell right from the very start.
Zurawski on the other hand, I've nver liked, he doesn't have a big enough heart to play for Celtic, that's something that you cant learn in training.
-
Has everyone else finished work and gone to the pub?
This is when working from home is a bit of a pain.
-
Zurawski has had a shocking start to the season and has looked really off the pace.
A bit like last season then!
I'm a huge fan of his goalscoring ability, he remains the most clinical finisher at the club.
He was excellent the other night and provided a performance full of 'heart', running and control.
I predict a Magiec show tomorrow and over the next few weeks giving GS a huge headache when JVofH returns.

You have explained your outlook, very well.
And I agree with much of what you say... under this new set of parameters we can enjoy a jolly fine confab.
There shall be no bloodied noses to be suffered.
Our use of the pertinent and therefore ,uncomfortable , type of questioning, is an old and well established means of running a tight ship.
To my knowledge these very same principles and methods, were successfully employed by Mr. Jack Welch of G.E. fame.
And I have it on good authority that Mr. Strachan is also an faithful admirer of Mr.Jack's Method's of organization and administration.
As I pointed out in my prime posting.....
Mr. Strachan alluded ....cloudily, I admit...but certainly alluded, to this type of selective process, when answering the question..."Do you have a FIRST ELEVEN?"
His answer was was very, very, UNAMBIGUOUS.....
He replied, quickly and emphatically...
"I don't have a FIRST ELEVEN!"
quote and unquote.
He went on to explain that he makes his selections according to several different parameters...
But prominence would be given to current performance.... also depending on the techniques that his oppo of that day would use.
Every time I hear Mr. Strachan's philosophy I am more and more impressed.
There is an expression used by the Boss that comes to mind....
"If I could run like a horse.... I would have no reason to think."
To explain... Man is forced to think out very carefully his present and future actions....there is no running away from problems, like the animal in the story. In the case of a soccer manager, that goes doubley... one of the reasons for the musical chairs that are taking place in that area.
Ergo.....
Mr. Strachan because of his pensive and thoughtful mien, cannot miss in the success stakes.
He plans everything to the nth.
That is what we are told..... and that is what I believe.
If Mr. Strachan feels that Mr. Magic is doing a fine job, or no..... then we shall soon find out.
After all, he saw the worth of Mr. Miller, when there were murmurings of disappointment, issuing from the Celtic Faithfull....especially during Mr. Miller's goal dearth.
Celtic are indeed fortunate to have such a technically gifted gaffer.
-
Re. Harry Hood
His route was St Aloysius, Holyrood, Clyde, Sunderland and then Celtic.
Interestingly, I played with H.H. whilst at school (alongside Jim McCalliog, Denis Conaghan.....not a bad team)and whilst he was a very good player I was a little bit surprised when i was playing golf with an ex-Aberdeen player of that era who said that the finest talent he had seen in Scotland was the very same Harry Hood!
"Harry, oh Harry, Harry
Oh, Harry, Harry, oh, Harry Hood" rang around C.P. on many an occassion.

Before I put this up for sale on the Benfica website, I would offer it at face value to anyone here needing a guaranteed ticket for the game. Just express some interest and I'll arrange a way of getting the ticket to you.
I'll wait till Wednesday and, if there's no interest here, I'll offer it to the Benfica fans.

Over on ETims, Hector Bandido has given a very passionate endorsement of Gordon Strachan and his achievements to date. I'm sure the vast majority of the support would agree wholeheartedly with it. I'm surprised that there are still doubters as I feel that this is one of the most exciting times to be a Celtic supporter that I can remember along with the Stein years and MON's time from 2000 until Seville in 2003. I really feel we can achieve something BIG under Gordon Strachan with Team 2. I'm almost salivating at the prospect of Team 3. Let's give the Boss the praise that he has so rightly earned.

Good evening comrades,
Just back from Paris - where I took the wife and kids (well Disneyland to be precise). Bad planning on my part. Nonetheless I watched the game in the sports bar at the Disneyland village.
What can I say - a magnificent performance (even though I was extremely nervous throughout - much prefer being at the game). We must follow this through now - a win tomorrow will have the "resurgent (that really is hilarious)" ones under immense pressure.
Anyway - I have to tell you all - the main game on the screen in Paris was the Celtic game - with the commentary in French. The Lyon game was on a screen to one side - Lyon scored and not a peep. Celtic scored and the place erupted.
As for the fans - I speak only faltering French - but at half time the commentator took a deep breath - said nothing during the walk on and effectively said "well - that is just simply magnificent".
We continue to be box office - and the word is spreading far from home - for those who have in the past criticised the support 0 remember - we are officially the greatest fans in the world - and we have earned it!
Onwards and upwards comrades - I can almost taste the jam!
-
Celticlover & SadiesBhoy
I remember mostly:
"Oh Harry-Harry, Harry-Harry-Harry-Harry Hood" (repeated as long as you like)
Plus
"Hari-Hari, Hari-Hari, Hari-Hari Harry Hood" (I think that was more Harrison than Lennon...).
What a player !!!
On a different topic altogether, regarding the dark side's historic win last night. Gabrielle Marcotti mentioned on Talksport today that Italian clubs don't think much of the UEFA cup and Livorno played about SEVEN second stringers against Rankers, keeping their main men rested for the WE.
Didn't see that mentioned by the lazy journos today...kinda explains a lot though ;o)
Looking forward to 3pts ramorra.
C'mon the Celtic !!!

I have a question for all you people who know more about Celtic than I do (thta'll be quite a few then!). My earliest memory of going to Celtic Park was in the early 70s, sneaking in for free with pals in the last 20 mins after the gates were opened. It's a bit hazy but I'm sure the score was 8 nil and the opposition had a yellow strip.
Would anyone be able to confirm or deny this and make an old Bam happy?
Incidentally, I also found this French Celtic blog
http://celtic.blogs.francefootball.com/sport/
It gives match report and player ratings but not being remotely fluent in French I cannot say much more.
I've just refreshed the CQN blog and read Negative Anon's comments about French people cheering celtic. Bit of meaningful coincidence or what?
-
Celticlover, you don't go to the Tyneside Irish Centre, do you?
-
I met Liam Miller outside a payphone the other day, patting his pockets.
He noticed me smiling and said"You wouldnt have 30p on ya so I can phone me mate?"
I handed him 60p and said phone them all.
-
Negative Anon,
I am always heartened when I hear stories of affection for Celtic outwith our country. Thanks for sharing that one.
Our Walk On, especially on Euro nights, is one of the most beatiful things in football, in my view.
The fruits of our summer harvest are giving us our sweetest tasting Jam for years.

Evening Dharma - think the european hangover has kicked in tonight!!
Neganon - good to see your back we all got a bit worried you had hid down some mineshaft :)
WG - I know you are out there suprised you did not come on and tell the young ones about your love of the mothers from lanarkshire! Are you mellowing with age???

I know I complained previously about not getting replies to any of my posts but this is getting scary!

Hello minx1888

Not many on here tonight. Thanks for the link, unfortunately my French is Merde.
Hope your move back home is going well.

Dharma, nothing there!

Lubo,
I know, I wish I had stuck in at French at school, it would be interesting to know exactly what is being said and what they think of us.
As for moving back home, thanks for asking however it's going nowhere fast at the moment. We'll just have to keep on plugging.
I like your name, one of my all-time Celtic favourites
Minx, I've resent the email to your yahoo.co.uk email address.
Has it worked this time?
-
Minx,
I have spoken, through mail, to WG.
I am not at all certain that he will be posting again.
He felt that the aggro he was receiving was not worth it.
I think that it is such a pity, but I suppose that is the price some people pay for their type of post, somebody will always take exception to the unusual posting.
He was sometimes such an easy target.
Perhaphs if everybody mentioned how much he was appreciated and missed, all the messages would get back to him and he may just reconsider his decision.
Sad but true.
Cheers,
Martin.

It won't surprise WG to hear this from me, but I miss him sorely. He must come back.
You're right. His posts were out of the ordinary and that made him stand out. If he had just said he had some doubts about Paul Telfer and what a performance against Benfica etc, no one would have batted an eyelid.
But if you're up for passing on feedback, tell him from me, please, that he should no better what the role and the fate of the prophet is. He knows. Only too well.
For the record, it has nothing to do with foretelling the future.
-
Evening all !
Due to circumstances outwith our control !!! Myself and Mr90 may be absent over the weekend.
Me, because I'm dayshift all weekend and sitting here sober all night just doesn't seem to have the same appeal ........... :o)))
And Mr90, because he is having serious pc problems......................... and his computer's not working !!!!

We did win a European tie 9-1 in the 70's - Paul Wilson's debut I believe. The opposition were Kokkola (spelling?) Who I think were Finnish - we won 5-0 in the away leg - 14-1 on aggregate in the European Cup!!

I hadn't realised that WG was not posting because of hassle received. If I had known it was for that reason, I would certainly have been demanding he get his butt back here ASAP.
There are a lot of non-contributors out there who complain but don't say anything. WG puts himself out there. He'll post profundities and inanities and allow the reader to draw their own conclusion as to which is which.
I'll put my name down as one of his readers who appreciates that.
WG- Don't let the wee begrudgers get you down!
It's celebration time in the Celtic family just now. Get yourself and your timelines back on here or the blog gets it! (blazing saddles reference).

Don't make me email you.
You don't want it to come to that, surely?

I didn't even see all the brickbats people were throwing at WG. I must have been away.
To the brickbat-throwers: Shame on you. Admit that you miss WG, a unique poster and fine, fine, fine fellow.
To WG: As mentioned to Martin42. What did you expect old thing? Did they not teach you about Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezequiel, Daniel and the minors at that place you went to?
We can take this offline if you like, but I have to say it was coming to you, from the people who have no ears to hear and no eyes to see, naturally. That's what sets you apart, old bhoy. That's your role, your vocation.
Remember, and never forget, God's ways are as high above our ways as the heavens are above the earth. You are part of the plan. An important part.
Nevertheless, not that Jesus can be wrong (it goes with the territory), but the posts from Minx, Martin, Danny, Peat and a host of other over the last ten days must suggest to you that a prophet can be loved in his own land.

I'm sitting here thinking about whether we missed a good loan option for one of our young strikers this year. Maybe Helsingborg could have benefitted from a promising player like Rocco Quinn, Michael Gardyne, Jim O' Brien or one of the Icelandic boys. They would certainly have gained an education under Henrik.
I remember how much Liam Miller and Micky Doyle got from their Danish experience under Marc Reiper and how Paul Lambert improved in Dortmund. Some of our young pups could really kick on by experiencing other cultures.

ThanksJinkyRedstar, that sounds good. I'm just off to look for their website. to see their strips. I'm pretty sure it was yellow, the top and shorts being the same colour.
I feel excited as I may now be able to track down the first time I remember going to a match! I must have been about 4 yrs old.
Minx1888, thanks again for the help. I may take you up on that offer of future advice!
I also want to say how I miss winningemmell. We discovered we had met and chatted on another blog/forum, for music. He has impressed me, not just through his football knowledge that he's shown on here but also through his impeccable taste in music and also the level headed and peaceable(?) way he conducted himself on here.
Does this that you will be posting regularly again Martin42
In fact have any other of the Wishy Dead Poets Society been posting recently?

I'm sorry that WG felt the need to disappear as a result of some old fashioned slagging.
Personally ,I enjoyed his posts, as the humour and decency of the man always shone through. Virtues that are not always apparent on the blog. However, I think he overplayed his Gonk theme, (a) because people didn't really pick up on it, and (b), the humour wasn't up to his usual standard.
Shucks, even billy Connelly misses the mark some times and he gets paid for it.
There are worse things than being slagged on a blog, like being totally blanked when you think you have posted a carefully
considered article.

personally I thought the Ghonk theme was quite funny, but I also think it was the callous comments that one one time (twoser in Fargo speak) poster left that may have upset.
From what I recall, the guy got a first post or something and made comment about excernment or something similar! It hacked me off at the time, couldnt blame WG if it had a worse effect on him!
Think I even mockingly dedicated my next podium place to the guy (how big of me :o))
Tell WG to get posting again, unless hes reading of course!

Hello Tom the Tim,
Some time ago I think you and I had a discussion and I was unintentionally curt and dismissive in my last post on the subject, something along the lines of "scroll on by". Can I just say I didn't mean in any way to upset you, I was only trying to say that there 's no need to read everything that's posted. When I re-read it didn't quite come across as being a lighthearted comment, it read more like "On yer bike"!

We will soon be approaching the Christmas Season so how about this for a ditty to pay tribute to the Manager, "Gordon Strachan Walks on Water .... Tra la la la la la, la la la la".
On the subject of WinningGemmell, it is a cause for regret that any Celtic supporter feels hounded from CQN. There are a few who I feel like hounding myself because there aggressive style irks but we are a broad Church and it is the wide range of views that make this site a cut above the others.
Negative Anon ... a great post earlier. I love to hear stories from abroad or down south when our club or our fans are given the credit they are due. This is so often denied us in Scotland due to the 'supporters with typewriters' who constitute the so called sports writers in the written media. Many of the TV/Radio commentators are just as bad. The guys who should at least be objective towards us seem to have taken the 'King's Shilling' and don't want to offend the Great Unwashed'.
I couldn't believe an article written by Jim Duffy earlier in the year in defence of our south side rivals when UEFA fined them for their 'traditional folk songs.'

I'm on a run here. Why does inspiration come to me so late at night? Maybe it's got something to do with copious amounts of Chardonnay.
Does anyone remember a chat show which Archie MacPherson hosted during the 80s/90s. It went out in midweek. I remember one particular programme when his guest was Brian Glanville - highbrow English novelist and sportswriter who had a passion for Italian football to the extent that he actually went to live in Italy.
They got chatting about football supports and their value to their teams. Brian Glanville told an anecdote about how Pavarotti stood among the Celtic support at a European game and waxed lyrical to him (BG) about the choral attributes of the Celtic support and the great repertoire that they had. Big Archie interrupted and said " Yes, people will always say that about the Celtic and Rankers supporters ..." but Brian Glanville cut him short and said " No he wasn't talking about the Rangers support... he was talking only about the Celtic support."
Game, set, match and Championship.
I've always held BG in high regard and he proved his undoubted class that night.
Hail! Hail!

Kojo,what takes you to Scranton?
The City of Scranton is the county seat of Lackawanna CountyGR6 in Northeastern Pennsylvania, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 76,415 (2003 estimate: 74,320). After Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie and Reading, Scranton is Pennsylvania's sixth most populous city.
Scranton is the geographic and cultural center of the Lackawanna River valley, a relatively dense area directly between the vastly rural Pocono Mountains to the east and Endless Mountains to the west. It is the largest city located in a contiguous quilt-work of former anthracite coal mining communities including the smaller cities of Wilkes-Barre, Pittston and Carbondale. Scranton was incorporated as a borough on February 14, 1856 and as a city on April 23, 1866.

SadiesBhoy 12.40
That's the first good point I've seen aired in Brian Glanville's favour. My memory of him is not so indulgent.
When he wrote his football books he was both anglocentric and Italo-centric. He decried Celtic's Lisbon triumph as having been acheived in the absence of Luis Suarez; he had patently never heard of Joe McBride. He felt Man U's triumph at Wembley was superior to ours.
I'm afraid to me, Brian Glanville is up there with Gabriel Marcotti and Simon Kuper as writers in thrall to the big leagues who do not give proper place to the peoples' clubs like Celtic, Benfica, Anderlecht, Red Star, Sparta Prague etc; who will outlast the fads and fashions of "occasionals' like Chelsea, Parma with their temporary and dubious funding.
I'd have to say, in contrast, that Archie has been more favourable toward our club than Brian Glanville over the years.

Hi Paul,
Once again I hope you don't mind me taking up a chunk of your space for a posting from FARE.
“Make racism a thing of the past” –
European Football is fighting racism and celebrating the beautiful game
(20 October 2006)
The seventh annual FARE Action Week got underway with a Europe-wide campaign to eradicate the cancer of racism and intolerance from the beautiful game.
Running from 17 to 30 October, the annual show of strength coordinated by the FARE network and implemented with support of UEFA is uniting football fans, clubs and those targeted by racism across the continent in a concerted effort to make discrimination a thing of the past. Having grown massively since its launch in 2001, the FARE Action Week now includes more than 1000 single activities in 37 European countries (see List of Activities on www.farenet.org).
Over the forthcoming two weekends the campaign will boost public awareness of the problem of racism and discrimination and demonstrate a united front in dealing with this malign influence on Europe's number one sport.
Professional Leagues join the fight
A record of 14 European top leagues will dedicate their forthcoming league matches to the fight against racism, including England, Scotland, Cyprus, Macedonia, Malta, Slovenia, Romania and Norway.
In Belgium the “Centre for Equal Opportunities” initiated the campaign “Don’t act like a monkey” where all professional clubs, the Belgian FA, the fan federation and the players union Sporta tackle the problem of racist chanting in stadiums. A TV-spot will be shown during the football broadcasts and 80.000 posters handed out to fans, in addition clubs are to be asked to sign an anti-racism charter.
In Portugal the Players Union SJPF coordinates anti-racist stadium actions across the country. The stars Eusébio, Fernando Gomes and Vítor Baía will act as ambassadors. The Hungarian Players Association will organise a campaign involving all first division clubs. Players will wear anti-racism t-shirts in the warm up, tannoy announcements will be made and children with ethnic minority background present a FARE banner at the pre-match line up.
For the first time all 73 professional sides in Germany are taking part in the FARE Action Week, following a series of racist incidences after the World Cup. 750.000 red cards are to be placed on seats so that fans can join the players when they show racism the red card at kick-off. In neighbouring Austria, the Bundesliga will run activities involving all 22 professional clubs. At the line-up team captains will take the microphone to read an anti-racism statement, also a new anti-racism video spot will be aired in all stadiums. Fans will receive a special fanzine produced by the FARE partner FairPlay-vidc.
Following a serious far-right incidence in Serbian football – last week 37 FK Borac fans wearing Ku-Klux-Klan masks abused a Zimbabwean player of the visiting team – the Serbian football association and clubs will intensify their campaigning efforts to drive racism out of the stadiums. In addition to the already scheduled anti-racism match days at Smederevo, OFK Belgrade, Partizan, Red Star, Zemun and Vojvodian 80.000 FARE leaflets will be distributed to fans.
Rafal Pankowski, speaker of the Polish the FARE partner Never Again Association said:
“Over the last decade some good progress has been made in challenging racism in the game, but by no means has it been eradicated. In several parts of Europe we still regularly witness the overt abuse of black and other minority players at both the professional and grassroots level of the game. Also migrants and ethnic minorities still feel excluded from the existing football structures within associations, clubs and some fan clubs across Europe.”
Grassroots involvement in Eastern Europe
To reinforce the message that football is for all – irrespective of origin, skin-colour or language – FARE supports a wide range of community-based events. In particular human right-groups in non-EU members states in Eastern Europe make use of youth football tournaments to raise awareness and integrate Roma an other ethnic minorities. Such events will take place in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Georgia, Moldavia, Russia and Macedonia.
Celebration of Fan Culture
As the life blood of the anti-racism struggle in football, fan groups across the continent will challenge the most visible racism during the Action Week. Over the weekend eight members of the network “Réseau Supporter de Resistance Antiraciste”, including French clubs Sochaux, Rennes, Metz, Valence, Clermont, Bordeaux, Cannes, plus Liège (Bel) and Lausanne (Sui), will create choreographies, display banners and organise discussions. In the Czech Republic the fan project of champion Slovan Liberec and the Bohemians Prague Ultras are staging colourful fan choreographies during their home ties. Other active fan groups include those of Bröndby, Young Boys Bern, Venice, Ancona, Cadiz, Paris SG, Arsenal, Kiev and Kaiserslautern.
Challenging Homophobia and Sexism
In order to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender, FARE lends support to a number of initiatives. The gay fan club Hertha JunXX in Berlin will display a banner when Hertha BSC play Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Schalker fan initiative has launched a poster campaign featuring homosexual youth in football kits. The Ultrà female fan clubs Borussen playgirls and Bochum wildcats will display banners when their teams meet in the Bundesliga. In the Macedonian capital Skopije MKD Prokultura is organising the first tournament for girls of ethnic minority background.
Massive Audience
The UEFA Champions League fixtures on 17/18 October marked the start of the FARE Action All 32 teams involved in Europe's premier tournament were accompanied onto the field by children wearing t-shirts bearing the slogan 'Unite against Racism'; also all team captains wore anti-racism armbands. 618.000 fans witnessed these symbolic activities live in the 16 stadiums and more than 100 million viewers via TV live coverage.

As well as being the first Scottish club team to win a match in Italy, a historic event the papers have been bashing on about, I would just like to point out another record set by Rangers this week.
15 points from 30 games, their worst start to a league campaign in 23, count 'em, years!
I am not normally of a nature to take enjoyment from the misfortune of others, I would rather talk about my/our own successes. However, I'll make an exception in this case, just to redress the balance from the red-tops and the broadsheets.
No toil at all to do this, it's just CHAMPION by me!

Just back from an (ill-planned) trip to Bordeaux. Watched the game in the Connemara bar, which had been colonised by Liverpool fans over for their game on the Wednesday. Brilliant atmosphere, with all the Liverpool fans supporting Celtic vociferously and with a raucous You'll Never Walk Alone at the final whistle. So, any Scousers out there, Hail! Hail!

I just watched a Jinky video and I dont know where I got the link from! AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!

I think this would be a mistake for Henrik and also for us if we tried to tempted him back. We need to look forward. I also think Henrik is of a firm mind and that he will bow out at Helsingborg. Someone posted last night that we should have loaned one of our young forwrds to Helsingborg to learn from Henke that could maybe still happen in January. I would have thought that would not be a bad idea.
Need to keep the momentum up against the Mothers today.

See your spelling hasn't improved since your Holyrood days? I'm off to Barcelona on Monday for a short vacation.Do you remember our brilliant trip there in 1962.I'll give the Nou Camp and Montserrat another whirl just for old times sake.
I remember one of the games against Calella when the ref was an absolute homer and in a hissy fit, I booted the ball into the crowd in row Z after a nothing free kick against me.
He took umbrage and instead of a booking he made me climb the hoarding and walk all the way into the crowd to retrieve it.As expected, they gave me a right bollocking and boy was I embarrassed and red-faced.
I apologised to him at full time and he told me in broken English that Calella was a poor club and only had the one ball and couldn't afford to have it stolen.I think he was letting me off lightly.
Big Dennis was my room mate then and on a few more occasions.Great character and fancied himself as a bit of a dancer. He fancied himself as a bit of a goalkeeper as well. Hmmm??

Why is Paul encouraging you to post this stuff? In doing so you are drawing a moral equivalent inference between ourselves and yourselves on the issue of the behaviour of our respective supporters. Can I say again, that there is no comparison.
Well done on a good result on Thursay - I will take nothing away from you.

-
Pibroch94 :- I don't think Paul encourages me so much as allows me to post it, from comments I've received on previous posts a least a couple of people find FARE letters interesting, I draw no moral inference from it in fact more the opposite as from previous posts on the site I know many folk on here are actively anti-racist and this let's those of them who are not members of FARE to see some of what's going on. I think it was yourself (apologies if wrong) who posted the other night on certain fans singing "I'd rather be a darkie than a hun" perhaps if one of them read the FARE posts they may pause and think. To my way of thinking anything that discourages hatred is a good thing.
Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.

Edward,
Your team definitely deserved to win on Thursday night against a very poor Livorno, who allowed your midfield far too much room in the first half.
SPL sides are now not allowing Hemdani and Ferguson that lee-way and Rangers have consequenty struggled. And since a cure is not on the horizon, I believe they will continue to struggle. Le Guen has still not adjusted to the high-paced pressing of the SPL. Banning tackling at training shows how much out of touch he is.
And, oh, your Reserves are mingin'. I saw Stanger and Ponroy on the bench in Italy, and they are both French imposters. Why Le Guen decided to buy all these chancers (including three from non-world-beaters Austria Vienna!) is anyone's guess. But a long hard season awaits. Yee-ha. I feel you will also struggle at Paisley tomorrow. A 1-1 draw, methinks.
As for last night's chat: HARRY HOOD went from Holyrood Senior Secondary (Hoc Vince, Ra-ra-ra!) to Clyde, then down to Sunderland, then back to Clyde and on to Ra Sellik for £30,000. The transfer fee paid for the big floodlights at Shawfield that I pass on my way Paradise. Including today.
I fancy Caldwell at right back, Bobo at centre back and Craig Reid on the bench.

minx1888 9.49 Dundee United v Celtic Live Update blog
A reader of CQN has drawn my attention to your posting from the start of this week. In my hurry to answer Paul and 'move on' from the subject I missed seeing your post. What you have written prompts me to reply.
I have highlighted your comments following Paul's observations on the appropriateness of 'songs' debate on his blog. For obvious reasons, I don't want to compound your irony by engaging with you in debate so I will confine myself to replying to your other comments.
pibroch94
One man's terrorist etc etc etc. We all know the songs that although not sectarian others (be it UEFA/SFA/PL/WGS/fellow celtic fans) would prefer we would leave at home (rightly or wrongly) such like Aiden McAnespie. For every Celtic Fan that can tell you why we should sing it why we should never forget, you will meet another who can tell you why we should not sing it and why we should forget it.
We could (and many do) go round in circles with the debate because they believe they have the answer.
It seems that , in seeking to inform me of the history and inevitable sterility of the 'songs' debates on CQN, you couldn't help getting in your own tuppence worth. No harm there, but a wee bit ironic, No?
Not only did you contribute to the merry-go-round you actually encouraged furtherance of a debate that had just about ground to a halt. I could have taken you up on every hoary issue you raised, but I was (and am) genuinely trying to avoid the subject.
But if I may ask what is your motive re the word count what do you hope to achieve? This blog has been going strong for 2 years and trust me the debates/arguments call them what you will have ranged from John Hartson is not good enough (which he was but I won't get into that one again), Strachan not good enough (which he is but I won't get into that one either) To arguments about what feast day it is (depending on what calander you are looking at).
It was actually a word density count that I was looking for and I probably didn't make myself clear. What I hope to achieve is, in one word, Clarity. I am confused. I am receiving mixed signals. Paul.'s comments and my perception of the functions and role of CQN do not add up.
My impression of the CQN site since I started looking at it about four weeks ago – apart from thinking that it is an excellent platform for us Tims (and Edward) - is that the contributions are mostly made up of topics related to football generally and Celtic in particular. Comments often spill outside these parameters into many different topics.
Apart from the discussions around music, literature, politics, etc, there is regular comment from posters on the practices of Catholicism (witness the spat about a week ago with Pablophanque, Martin42, etc). These can, and sometimes do, end up as circular arguments as do many other debates! So why not discourage these? Why is it only the debates to do with Ireland that Paul is heartily sick of?
I just don't get why you would want a word count on such a small part of this blog (or what you hope to achieve), it may be you have not been reading the site for 2 years and only came across it 3 weeks ago hence the reason you may feel that is the biggest debate it has had going. But if you take a look back over the past couple of years you will see alot more than a song debate. (even arguments over first posting!)
I would challenge your assertion that these debates only constitute a small part of this blog. We know that the 'songs' debate invariably widens to include questions of identity, ethnicity, politics, etc, all involving Ireland. It was Paul who said, when referring to the Irish songs/history/ politics debates, "and more than any other topic, brings screeds of words on people’s interpretation of history."
So, in the word numbers game at any rate, you and Paul appear to be at odds. Maybe Paul had you in mind in his plaintive comment at the end of his reply to me, 'I cannot win with some people.'
If there were less controversial debate, there would be less traffic on CQN. It is a self-evident truth that removing significant content by moderators of a blogs that depends on consistent traffic would be akin to those particular turkeys voting for Christmas. American Express or gambling outlets, online or offline, are less likely to invest in a CQN blog that has dwindling visitor figures.

HARRY HOOD went from Holyrood Senior Secondary (Hoc Vince, Ra-ra-ra!) to Clyde, then down to Sunderland,
*and turned Celtic down then, there was an old saying that you only get one chance to sign for Celtic so it looked as if Harry's tea was oot as far as we were concerned, he also played in a pre-season 0-5 humphin against us along with the not so slim Jim at Roker Park, this game showed us fans that we were on to something special.
then back to Clyde and on to Ra Sellik for £30,000.
*a stand out display in the 1967 Scottish Semi and replay paved the way for this transfer although I must admit to being pissed off as he had previously turned us down, this was soon dispelled as he scored the winner at the sellick end over in Govan tae the George Harrison inspired chants of "Harry Harry, Harry Harry, Harry Harry, Harry Hood".
Terrific player and one of the few to have scored a hat trick aginst Them, a thorn in their side during his Celtic career, for what it's worth he came off the bench to score the 3rd against Benefica, mibbees Pearo can gain some confort from that.

I think that Edward is not drawing a moral equivalence between ourselves and themselves but between himself and those of us who would agree with the FARE agenda.
As a leading contributor to this forum it seems to me he has that right.

BTW in the absence of WG may I wish you all a Happy Diwali! May your new year be full of good fortune and prosperity.
Edward on reflection your team's performance on Thursday night does deserve praise. A victory away to a Serie A side cannot be sniffed at. I still think Livorno (Port Glasgow of Italy) we like the weather that night - PISS POOR!
If this is the beginning of the chase then BRING IT ON!
I have argued that whilst Celtic remain in the SPL then we need it to be competitive ( I think the new sponsorship deal (joke) underlines that fact). It will do us no good to win the league every year by 20 odd points or more or have it won before spring has sprung.
-
Pibroch94 :- Fair enough, I make no inferences moral or otherwise when posting FARE mails on here I just think some may find them interesting. Where I would draw a moral equivalence is in the song you mentioned, whether the last word is hun or tim (and I've heard both) the same racist thoughts are present and place whoever sings them on the same racist platform. That has nothing to do with my FARE posts though, I've been making them for some while with no ulterior motive other than help bring the good work being done to a wider audience.
BarrelHoop :- Nowhere so grand I'm afraid, it was Dreghorn I moved to it's quite strange adjusting to a very small town after the grand metropolis that is Kilwinning lol.
JohnBhoy :- I tend to agree with you the SPL teams just don't give that amont of time on the ball, like you I find it strange that tackling is banned in training, I don't see how a forward can get proper training if he isn't facing tackles it may make for pretty patterns and clever play on the training ground but leaves the patterns in disaray with the first cruncher he gets hit with. Thanks for the info on H. Hood I hadn't know it was his second spell at Clyde I don't remember much f him as a player but I know he must have been pretty decent as gained the accolade of being named in a Rangers song :-) I'll disagree with you on the sunday score though and take Rangers to win with two clear goals.

10:52 AM, timoot
I'm off to Spain to-day directly after the game but my plane is taking me to Palma (my daughter lives there).
Yes, I remember Callela very well. Was back there 3 yrs ago when I drove from French Border to Faro. Not an attractive place but the memories were very good. e.g. I was on the bench for that game and your friend the ref sent me off for my poor use of Spanish! e.g. the police raid on our hotel because we/some imported the 'Woolworth" technique of buying!
Re. Denis I think his son played against the Hoops one night, P.Thistle I think.
Enjoy your trip and your memories.
-
McGraininSpain :- Thanks, that sums it up better than I could :-)
NewarthillBhoy :- It may not quite be the start of the chase yet but hopefully we are now out the starting blocks. Though the chase isn't nearly as much fun when you are the one trying to catch up :-)

DadiesBhoy 1240am,
Not sure if you are still awake, but Brian Glanville wrote a beautiful tribute to the Lions on the eve of Seville in The Times.
His obituary of Jinky (in The Guardian I think) was also full of praise for the wee man and The Big Man too.
I met him in in the course of my work a few years ago and he waxed eloquent of Lions-era Celtic.
