I think that being a manager is much more complex than it used to be. There needs to be the correct dynamic at a club, a budget, realtionships, ability to attract and retain players, a youth set up - a culture. A number of these can be screwed up by circumstances beyond the Manager. This is the reason why I think it is very difficult to transplant success from one club to another just by plucking the Manager. I see the same in large organisations regularly.
-
Alex Mcleish is a crap manager, and was very lucky as Rangers gaffer. Ask any Motherwell, Hibernian or Rangers fan, they'll all tell you the same thing. They cant all be wrong!
-
McLeish won a championship on the back of our UEFA cup run. Even then he required the assistance on the last day from one of his "friends", Jimmy "I'm a Govan boy and I'm looking forward to going home" Calderwood. They qualified for the last 16 winning only 1 game. They were lucky to win that. Prso should have been jailed for GBH. That was possibly the weakest group ever in CL history. Black Sunday handed him another title. Our failure not his success. McLeish is one of the luckiest managers ever.

I think there are a few Aston Villa fans might take a swap for McClaren just now.

why anyone would want to be the england manager is beyond me.
the prem is so over-hyped that some very average players are considered world beaters. i would think that a semi-final in a major championship is a par score for themedia and fans, but look at them on saturday and their main creative attacking force on sunday was a 19 year old left winger who cant kick with his left foot.
rio ferdinand as a "world class defender" sums it up for me
sg eriksson did a perfectly good job at england but his reputatuon has sufered after he did a perfectly good job there. as a foreigner mon would always be under the same sort of pressure to deliver.
-
Is the boards silence on the UEFA verdict an indication that we have been fined??.
-
Your right No 8
I doubt he'll last long at Villa, and then there will be a big clamour for him to come back here, but i certainly wouldn't want that, no way!
-
"...under enormous pressure to win, something he has done with monotonous regularity since his first week in charge"
I thought we were humped by Artmedia and drew with Well in his first week...
-
paul
is that another hand grenade youve intentionally thrown in????????
-
Watchow,
Agree with some of what you say. Although to be fair to Aaron Lennon, it's hardly his fault he was played out of position, there's far better players than him can only kick with 1 foot. Also got to disagree with your opinion about Rio, I think he Is World class.
-
dunfydave, "since his first week in charge".
Great No. 8, good point.
Rev Davie, not intentionally. I hoped to stimulate informed debate on the subject, too often all we get is "he's crap" or "he's great".
jinkyredstar, my thoughts exactly.

Any info on our proposed move for Scott "Big Mac" McDonald?
-
Plato,
Is he not a bit of a small fry?
-
We need a whopper of a signing up front!
-
Alex McLeish, Roy Aitken and Tommy Burns will be the new management team at Celtic football club when Gordon strachan eventually moves on, you heard it here first.
-
Plato, I am trying to avoid transfer speculation in March. Here is my prediction:
Lots of money will be made selling advertising around baseless transfer stories concerning Celtic this year.
No idea if he is on the shopping list, though I concur with whoever said on the last article that I would rather he did not go to Ibrox.
-
Too many Celtic fans had prejudged our manager before he took charge and are all too willing to jump on the "See I told you so" bandwaggon at the first sign of a defeat.
We need to judge him on his total achievements and put it into the perspective of what he inherited.
As for McLaren and England, McLeish and Scotland
"Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

"out planned MON on several occaions" give me a break. He won two leagues on the last day. His buys were crap. Capucho, Emerson, Vignal, Caniggia??
MON was our best manager in thirty years.

I hope Rangers do sign Scott Mcdoanld. I certaily don't want him anywhere near a Celtic Jersey.
I think he's similar to Nacho Novo, not a very good player but a pain in the back side for defenders.
We've got enough players on our books that don't score enough goals. Mcdonald usually hit's around 10 a season. He's not good enough, and if we do sign the likes of him, then we should just scrap the Youth system all together, because if we don't have any better youth in our team than Scott Mcdoanld then what's the point in keeping the running cost's of it going?
I also don't think WGS has enough faith in the youth. Darren O'dea looks a class act, yet he was only givin the oppertunity because it was the very last resort, for me he looks like the best defender at the club, and a far better player than Mcmanus.
-
Why mince your words? If someone or something is great or crap then i don't see anything wrong with saying so!
-
hope no-one minds if i bring some comments from a blog on another site to your attention.
on celtic news in 'vitalfootball'.co.uk someone has written an article on WGS doing their nut about the mcdonald link and saying:
"Strachan's Celtic is purely about possession of the ball, nothing else matters in his eyes, and while this philosophy can, up to a point, work in terms of containing the opposition in the Champions League, it is nothing but a completely useless, totally unwarranted, and detrimental philosophy, when applied against the poor opposition faced on the domestic scene.
Even in our parochial cup competitions, teams from the lower reaches of the lower leagues consistently not only make us look like similar division opponents to themselves but, more often than not under his stewardship, they gub us, and send us embarrassingly towards the exit door, again, and again!
Someone should remind Strachan, and bloody quickly, that possession, good team mates, and even good football, are ALL secondary requirements to the main philosophy of football, in any country, and in any language - namely: STICKING THE BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN!.
You don't need tactics to achieve that goal (pardon the pun ), just the right players, playing in the right positions, me and my radical ideas, eh?"
what the smack is this guy on? I wonder what league he's been watching where we have been gubbed again and again by diddy teams?
Do you think he has forgotten MoN's cup defeats?
As for his analysis of how you score goals without possesion of the ball: somebody call the nurse!
Why on earth does one of our most successful managers in my lifetime (28) get this kind of abuse?
-
Stockbridgecelt, there is a bit of circular logic there.
I agree MON was our best manager in 30 years; but McLeish still won the league twice with relatively poor players.
We should have been miles ahead. Why also, did he beat us at Hampden so often?
Maybe he was better than you think, maybe you are missing some of the detail.
My “out-planned O’Neill” comment was a direct reference to playing 3 strikers against Celtic, which Celtic struggled to cope with, and which eventually forced MON to play 4 at the back.
Jackd, being specific and careful with criticism or praise is not mincing your words; it is the only way to find clarity and perception.
-
McLeish carried more good luck than most people will see in a lifetime.
The only positive thing I can say about him is that he made us play a back 4.
At Ibrox and Hampden we lost or struggled badly playing 3 at the back against Cannigia and Lovestodive.
In the Seville season Rangers were awarded around 12 penalties.
Rangers opponnents had 13 players sent off.
We dropped 9 points immediately after midweek European games.
We had Rab Douglas in goal during the 3-3 draw.
McLeish is also the man who stated that Celtic shouldn't be tired after a European game as these games are what keep you going.
The following season he stated that European games were taking it out of his players!
He was also the man who stated that Rangers had 130 years of unsurpassed dignity. Perhaps he meant to say 130 years of surprised dinity.
-
Paul67,
Interesting point BUT I don’t think things have changed that much, top clubs have always had problems getting the right manager – look at Man U took them years to replace Sir Matt Busby – and the guy that did was one game away from – TAXI for Ferguson!
One thing that has changed though is that too many manager's reputations are based on perception rather than results; Look at Arsene Wenger, Arsenal’s greatest manager? Well George Graham’s record is better!
As regards England’s their problems are different - your face has to fit – Brian Clough arguably the greatest manager on the planet in his hey day couldn’t get the position NOT then you have to win every match you play - even great Managers such as Ramsey and Robson came away from England with damaged reputations.
If you go by results vs resources McLeish and WGS have both done well!
Is McLeish LUCKY? Mibees BUT!
As Gary Player says ‘The harder I work the luckier I get
Don’t believe you can put it down to just luck! BUT I’d rather have a lucky one – Kevin Keegan anyone?????????
-
Jansa
Also from his rant:
Even in our parochial cup competitions, teams from the lower reaches of the lower leagues consistently not only make us look like similar division opponents to themselves but, more often than not under his stewardship, they gub us, and send us embarrassingly towards the exit door, again, and again
In 'parochial' cup competitions, Strachan has lost only two games, one of which was on penalties against an SPL side.
The other game was one in which he fielded two debutants in a line-up that was heralded prior to kick-off.

MxLeish is spawnier than a spawnstar in a blue movie. He is hoachy hoarder of rabbits feet, horseshoes, black cats, shooting stars and pots of jam.The only good luck charm he lacks is the four-leaved clover for which, I, for one, am eternally grateful.

With all due respect Mcdonald isn't prolific, he get's in the region of 10 goals per season, he's not the answer. I'll be very disapointed if that's the calibre of player we are in for, I work like hell to be able to afford to go and see Celtic every single game home & abroad, i want better than Mcdoanld.

Scott McDonald would be great for the huns as he is better than they have which apart from boyd is nothing. Prso is finished and novo and the yeti are never will beens.
Strachan is at the wind up. Beatie and Miller may be mis firing (to put it mildly) but Scott McDonald is a backward step.
If he is fifth choice behind
1. JVOH
2. Deek
3. Sheridan
4. Beatie
Then ok otherwise why waste our money? Let the huns have him.
-
Jackd
One step at a time.
I want better than Miller. McDonald is better than Miller, with more to his game (including goals) and with the increased chances he'l get at Celtic - his goal tally would rise....

McDonald scored 2 goals in his first season at Mwell
subsequently:
15 in the black sunday season
9 last season
12 goals this season

i'm unsure how good a manager mcleish was or is...one thing i do know however is about the myth , perpetrated by the scottish media, of him being underresourced.....
the team he inherited from advocaat cost way in excess of the team put together by martin o'neill....
the mainstays in that team, which he inherited , were...
klos,amoruso,ricksen,de boer,flo,numan,caniggia,konterman,ferguson,mcann,vidmar,lovenkrands, arveladze
, nerlinger, ball, kanchelskis,reyna
in other words he inherited a squad which had cost in excess of £57 million to put together...and thats before you add in kenny miller, billy dodds and craig moore....by the end of his second season in charge he had moved on flo and kanchelskis as the only big money signings to depart...he had also signed arteta for close to £6 million....so the idea that he had put together a shoestring squad in the face of overwhelming spending power from Celtic just isnt true ...at least in the early part of his reign where he won most of his trophies....he had the most expensively accumulated squad in scottish football history when he arrived and he held on to most of it for some considerable time.....
....the last 2 years of his stewardship saw financial meltdown result in the quality of the squad reduce drastically.....he won , or more precisely was gifted by black sunday, the same number of trophies as valdas ivanauskas in his last 2 years....
...he might be a decent manager....but with the resources at his disposal for most of his tenure, he did not overachieve....
-
Left Winger
If you've got stats to hand, how does that compare with Boyds previous 3 seasons prior to signing for Rangers?
-
12 goals in 25 games for Motherwell is prolific. May be worth noting that 12 goals is more than Beattie, Miller, Riordan and Zurawski have managed between them.
Derek Riordan is not, never has been and never will be a centre forward for Celtic or anyone else for that matter. Other than 'he's a great finisher' exactly what does everyone see in him - he has no pace, no physical presence and little evidence of any work rate. Wide left in a 3 up front is where he made his name.
It's a bit ironic to be bleating on about Scott MacDonald's 'ability' whilst advocating someone who has never played at a higher level than him as the 'answer'.

Paul67 - I was at the game at Ibrox where MON first used a back 4 and he only went with it because all 3 regular CB's were suspended or injured. His hand was forced.
Big Sutty and Stan did a great job and we doubled up on Lovenpants down the wings.
That great Brazilian Emerson and his mates couldn't break us down.
MON stuck with the back 4 after that.

OK my posts keep getting lost so its shorter and sweeter.
MON went to 442 after being beaten away in Europe, Big Feckless had Feckless all to do with it. We signed Bobo in 01 -- when we won everything.
Last 16 Big Feckless won one taht's one game. He walked into the Scotland job and the bigots never even called Tommy Burns. I suppose beating Georgia is a good thing. Let's have a parade.
(btw recall that he signed Arveladze because he scored against us for Ajax. That's how clueless Big Feckless was/is.)
-
TMC-There are worse attributes to have than'being a great finisher'.
It seems preferable to the alternative;ie not being able to finish at all, which produced an avoidable defeat at home against the Plankton.
You may be right about Dekko's best position but my major cavil with him this season is that he hasn't been given a fair chance to show what he can do.

I don't understand the Riordan season, he appears so far out of the picture at times as to lend weight to bizzare theories about not being allowed to play him unless there is a full moon or he's just our very own Prince Harry as the press tend to hint.
-
WG ,
I was at said function with Tommy Burns, McLeish, Keevins & McNee .
Each one of them came across very well when I could hear them over and above the round-dodging of SOAL and the Man with The Green Jeans.
-
Okay I was second and not first.
I see that the verdict on the two EMPTY water bottles being thrown by unknown fans in the San Siro has been handed down and Celtic are to inform the public of the descision, my thoughts are that if they heven't divulged it as of now then they must be considering an appeal. What thinks the forum?
-
I don't believe in the theory that McLeish was a lucky manager.
Even if the twice he won the SPL it was by the narrowest margins the fact remains he kept his team in it right to the wire so when we fell short he got the prize.
Sorry but that aint luck. Tenacity and persistence yes but not simply luck.
Having said that I am not sure he is that good a manager.
At every club he has been at he has followed a good season with a woeful one. Hibs, Motherwell and Rangers all knew that to their cost.
After a good season the pundits all expected him to improve but time after time he actually went backwards and could not sustain the improvement.
To me that is the mark of a good or great manager in that he can take success and build on it to bring more success and simply put Mcleish couldn't do that.
Ferguson may have had a few dodgy years in 20 at Old Trafford (particularly the early years) but once he got on to winning ways he has rarely ever lost that winning habit. Chelsea and Arsenal are reaping the rewards of having managers who could win and then build to make their respective teams better.
Rijkaard is doing the same at Barca, Lippi, Hitzfield and Ancelotti have been there as well winning at the highest level on a consistent basis and repeating the feat.
That is the real trick and why to me there are so few really great managers.
-
Sounds about right to me Chic.
Only thing I can think is is uefa are wanting to slap someone's wrists over this; both clubs are saying that it wasn't our fans and they then decide to say to us that our fans shouldn't have been in there in teh first place.
You would think ac milan would have the same info tho and be under the same investigation.
btw, talk about eagle eyed observers, the orcs are running amoke, spaniards are racist, dutch anti-semetic, noses being broken and they investigae 2 empty plastic bottles that dont make it onot the pitch??
-
Hi Paul,
If as seems to be the case Celtic are on the verge of a deal with Scott McDonald where would you see him being played? To me there is already a player just like him at Celtic Park in Mr Riordan. I would be happy to see him at Rangers as I could see him taking over from Nacho Novo, they are both small nippy players who can cause defensive problems but Mr McDonald is a bit better at finishing in my opinion, he would also be within the present budget at Ibrox. My second point is that over the past year or so on hear I have heard many posters mention just how big a financial advantage Celtic now have over Rangers, extending to tens of millions in turnover, if this is the case (and I have no reason to disbelieve it) don't you think that Celtic should be aiming a bit higher than a run of the mill player from a run of the mill SPL team.
-
EdwardUrsus
Good point and why many Celtic supporters ar a bit "underwhelmed" at the potential signing.
However the clear implication from your words suggests that you are happy with the prospect of signing him as a replacement for Novo even though you refer to him right at the end as run of the mill
Or was your tongue firmly in your cheek at that point?
-
Another input to the Scott McDonald debate is the careers of two of the last strikers we signed from Motherwell and their scoring records in Lanarkshire before they went on to successful goalscoring careers at Celtic.
Scott McDonald with 38 goals in 91 starts compares well with Brian McClair (15 goals in 33 starts) and very favourably against Andy Walker (17 goals in 65 starts).
Stats taken from Soccerbase.com
I know stats dont tell the whole story but I think Scott would be good for 20 goals a season in the SPL with Celtic.
-
Paul,
are you implicitly suggesting that David Fernandez didn't manage to put the cones out the right way up?
-
Collie,
I understand from your last post that we see McDonald as a player who can be brought in cheaply to replace the likes of Beattie and Miller who more than likely are to be let loose at the end of the season, whilst keeping the big money for other targets.
i.e. if we can get a couple of cheaper players in to fill holes that will be left we can spend bigger on the priority signings. Am I right?
-
If we can afford to then I don't see a problem buying SM as a squad player AND also to make sure he doesn't go to Ibrox. This is where we can make our financial advantage count - strengthen our squad (Beattie out SM in) and make sure the Darnel stay as weak as possible.
-
Scott MCDonald.
When I saw him at Fir Park in December he looked to be a good player. Fortunately the Celtic management will not base their judgement on one game.
-
Edward, if Mr McDonald is to be a core part of next season’s strategy, then yes, we would be falling short, however, there is no reason to suggest that he is.
Last year we signed Kenny Miller early to gasps about the extent of ambition, but still bought Vennegoor of Hesselink. This year will be no different, I expect some box office business to be done.
What this season has taught us is that the Celtic squad does not have enough players to cover the injuries we have had, and that we do not have enough players at the club with a knack of scoring goals.
Dubaibhoy, :-) You could be right.
-
MartinOBhoy,
I'm still not 100% convinced, but he is quicker than Zurawski, more direct and a much better finisher than Miller, less injury prone than Beattie, and stronger than Riordan.
As Michael__67 said earlier, ultimately we should be aiming higher for our first XI players, but as a starter, we have got to improve on what we have currently.
I also reckon that McDonald would hit 20+ goals a season, and should JVOH stay fit, i have no doubts, he could equal that.
As a minimum requirement, we should be looking for a 40 goal striking partnership in our team.
-
It seems strange to discuss the merits of Scott McDonald while everyone seems to think he won't get a game anyway.
-
Teddy
I suggest that Motherwell are NOT a run of the mill SPL side.
Considering they are 10 points behind the stereotypical run of the mill teams like Kilmarnock and Hibs, and 20 behind Aberdeen, I would suggest that they are a struggling basement SPL team.
And I do believe that we should be fishing in bigger pools for headline strikers.
'GG underwhelmed.

Ok deep breath time but...
Derek Riordan is not a centre forward, Scott McDonald is.
Scott McDonald could just be the best 4th choice centre forward we've ever had. The problem with our squad just now is if there was no transfer window he'd be starting on Saturday.

Bambi,
I think that is exactly what Collie is saying and if true, suggests to me that Miller is for the front door exit.
I don't like criticising any Celtic player, but I think that Mc.Donald is a better finisher than Kenny and would fill that gap.
I don't think That SMD would be the big signing, unlike if he were to go to Govan, so he would be usefull in winnig the SPl which is the priority.
I'm just back from a very pleasant trip to Cork. Had a couple of pints in the Corner House in Ballincollig, home of the aforementioned CSC.
Unfortunately, none of the members were present, but had a pleasant chat with the West Ham supporting barman.
-
Just a thought....does somebody at celtic park think we can tap into the ozzie market with McDonald
-
On the Scott McDonald issue, if nothing else, if the story is factual then it has pushed the asking price above what the Orcs were willing to pay.
I still think we should go for Brown, my info is that when we were targeting Brown and Thompson the latter had a bust up with Collins on the training ground and Collins said that's enough and offered him to Celtic at the price Rangers paid, Lawwell said NFW which means if Celtic were offering 4+ million for both then they must value Brown to be in the 3Million range.
-
all we are saying is give deek a chance
We may get a surprise
I agree he ain't a centre forward but neither are beatie, jarosik and miller and they all had a chance.
Seems a shame not to try it with so many duds getting games at the moment.

EUROPEAN football’s governing body, UEFA, have fined Celtic 1,000 Swiss francs following an incident at the San Siro stadium in Milan earlier this month.
Two empty, plastic water bottles were thrown from an area outwith the official Celtic support.
Commenting on the announcement by UEFA, a Celtic spokesperson said: “The Club still awaits formal written confirmation from UEFA. However, the fine of 1000 Swiss francs (approx £400) says it all.
“Not withstanding this, we are disappointed and may consider an appeal once we have seen the detail.
“We would like to add that, given the last-minute changes to arrangements for the match in Milan, the supporters were once again magnificent.”

Tom the Tim,
I think that's exactly what we are doing and if it proves to be the case then fine, I certainly don't expect Scott McDonald to be our "headline" signing for the striking position next season.
Gweedorebhoy,
I don't think Gordon would leave Riordan out of the side if a) he thought he would be better than we have in the side at the moment
and b) if he was completely happy with Riordan's attitude/behavious etc.
There's too much at stake for Gordon to cut his nose off to spite his face.
Much more goes on at our club than many/most of us will ever know.
-
Bambi know what you mean!!
Loads of rumours about what's going on but hopefully they are wide of the mark
If they are play him.
If not subject to legality just confirm what we all talk about in the pub anyway. Either way silence ain't the way to handle this one.
-
ShamrockDiary :- To be honest I'd prefer that we went for a better class of player but right now the Ibrox bank balance isn't the healthiest. I think for the next season or so we will have to do our trading at this level. So within our budget constrictions I'd take him but hopefully we will soon be back to aiming higher.
Kojo :- I do see your point in signing him as a squad player rather than a first choice starter, I just find it strange to see you in the que at McDonalds with us rather than using the financial power to pick up titbits at the Ritz. It also seems I have your freindship for the rest of this season and almost most of next ;-)
DBBIA :- Right now Celtic look like taking the plaudits but as Mr Smith has a better league record than Mr Strachan this season I'm feeling fairly optimistic for next year. Europe is another place though as Mr Smith seems to have a blind spot when it comes to tactics in it
-
Gweedorebhoy,
I think to go public with any players faults, problems etc could lead to all sorts of trouble. If we are trying to sell him then it will certainly work against getting a higher price or if we are trying to keep him, what message does it send to him that we will air his/our dirty linen in public.
Sometimes I think it's better that we are the last to know, as difficult as it is to take sometimes.
-
TeddyBear,
"Europe is another place though as Mr Smith seems to have a blind spot when it comes to tactics in it"
Tactics?
Or lack of a reliance on favourable decisions re: penalties/sendings off/dodgy offsides etc?
Tongue? Cheek? Serious?
You decide ;-D

i realy fancy giving traktor a go but i find mp3s pretty horrible - i try and use 24 bit aiff files whenever possible, although they do take up a miassive amount of space on the hard disc. also i really need to spend some time with live6 to find out what it can do. i should probably just make some music instead of talking about gear and fiddling with new stuff.
re scott macdonald, wgs clearly thinks that he's a better option than what we have. i havent seen enough of him to be able to judge, but i remember how annoyed people got when there was talk of signing big ainsley as an out and out squad player. i had no problem with dd as fourth choice option and someone with something different to offer. kenny millers days are clearly numbered and i would rather have sm in the squad than miller.
i would be happy with jvoh, sm, cb and a really high quality goalscorer as our striking options.
-
I'll pay the UEFA fine !
-
edward
if rfc's coffers are empty why are there strong rumours of paying 3m for scott brown, a player in a position where you seem to have more than enough players already?
-
Great_No_8 @ 15:15,
Agreed AW vs GG is closer than I realised but Wenger has had more time and inheritd a much better team than Graham did.
pin76 @ 16:25,
I'd rather tap into the Aussie market with Cahill!
-
TheLeftWinger :- I think you have a serious case of tongue in cheek :-)
Watchow :-While I don't think the coffers are empty I accept the fact that the relative turnovers means that for this year and the coming summer at least we aren't able to match you in purchase power.
-
I have no wish to see McD at CP, he's an average player with a basement club who is better off at TFOD, anyway, with our bank balance we should be after the "box office" signings.Leave the small fish to Edward and TFOD. WE ARE A MUCH BIGGER CLUB !!
-
Edward,
Whilst your on, do you think in the light of what happened in Spain that that's it now for TT's STB as a crowd warm up anthem at Ibrox or do you think they will continue to play it to get the crowd animated?
-
My dear friend, Watchow,
I see that you have included Beattie, in your list of strikers.
I fail to see the point in retaining an injury prone, prone, prone, prone( Okay,Okay,Okay,Okay!......ed)(exactly!)
Jvoh is beginning to worry us..... a leetle too much.... in that department, as well!
Sutton was also a member of that unfortunate club...Pity, as he was a wonderful player.....when he was fit!
Mako has quick feet, can trap, can run....and has a footballing brain....can score...fairly consistently.....
So what's not to like?
Compare his soccer playing attributes, wit' those o' Beattie?
No contest!
No, Beattie and Miller can be excluded from any List of Dangerous Strikers without fear of contradiction!
Riordan is well worth persevering with.
He is now settling down.....
As I said before I left on my trip.......
Strachan must relent, and change his tactics and team selection RADICALLY, for the DUNDEE game.
I want to see changes.... and by George, I will not be a happy man, if Strachan does not satisfy my request.
Kojo.
Yer Pal.....forever and ever.
-
MoleRus :- I think it should be changed, as long as it's played it looks like some folk who have no real love for the club despite their prtestations to the contrary will change the lyrics.
-
Ed,
Classic pun as ever, with the use of protestations given the reasoning behind scrapping it!!

AIFF .. better quality .. i cant argue with you there .. and if your happier with that format then cool ..
as long as it makes it easy for you to do your thing and write/produce then im all for it ..
most of the market loading music onto the net uses mp3 .. ill stick with a format that has the largest library available... coz im a greedy sod!
over 400 dvd's full of mp3's (and counting) .. so im not gonna change format now .. ive went too far down the road to be turning back :-)
-
GUILTY.
Headlines for your papers tomorrow.
I hope Lawell fights the £400 fine.
-
Edward,
If they did continue to play it, you would have to question the claim that they are 'doing all they can' to combat bigotry. If the boot were on the other foot I'm certain that any similar type of song would be struck off the resident Parkhead DJ's playing list immediately.
-
Kojo,
You and I both know that Strachan will not budge from his thinking.
How dare anyone tell Strachan who to play and who not to play.
If anything Miller and Beattie has reinforced his first choice by their Scotland showing.
-
So we got a £400 fine ex the governing body! what 's on it's way for TFOD's chantings ??

it doesnt matter what uefa punish them with
1. it will be unfair as the whole thing is a horrible establishment/papist/media conspiracy. uefa wouldnt have done anything if it wasnt for those horrible tims and the pro-celtic media making stuff up.
2. "we told you celtic are just as bad as us. they did a bad thing just like we did. we just sang songs, they nearly killed someone with a bottle."

Re Scott MacDonald
Do we not normally get a relatively good return from strikers we sign form Murderwell..

What a great Video of the St Albans CSC.

is anybody who has watched miller and beattie struggle to get into double figures really going to grumble about mcdonald.
Miller has escaped a lot of criticism because he "works hard".
To my mind mcdonald is very much a grafter too, however, he also has an end product.
20 goals from him wouldnt be unexpected, how many does miller have the now?
I personally felt embarrassed watching miller stumble and fall over the ball throughout the game on saturday together with his poor control and passing and have to own up that he is a striker for the hoops.
Mcdonald is maybe not the answer, but one helluva improvement.
-
My dear friend, St-Gris....
Gosh it's bin a while!( should that no be "awhile"?....ed)("awhile" is good, but it's bin a while since I have used it!)
Howdya doin', pilgrim?
Strachan is obstinately stubborn in his thinking, like all managers.
And like all managers ,the time comes when he must realize that he must stop fighting contemporary battles, with the same, AULD TROOPS!
I hope the Dundee Game, will mark his epiphany!
Somehow, this upcoming game at Tannadice, could be the original Fraught... as in.... Fraught wit' Peril?
Dundee, may not turn out NOT to be..... the piece of Pastry for which is famous!
Frankly, we to be quite Candidly .... Worried!
Could this confrontation be the prelude to the start of a wind-down.... to a repeat of a Soiten SUICIDAL SUNDAY ,of darkest memory?
Strachan, Oh! Strachan.....
Change yer ways...
Before it is Too Late!

The fine for the empty water bottles may be just 1,000 Swiss francs but I hope Peter Lawwell and Celtic fight this all the way if when the detailed UEFA report arrives it shows the incident wasn't witnessed by either the UEFA delegate or the caribineri.
The behaviour of the 10,000-plus Celtic fans in the San Siro was saluted by AC,the police and the authorities, despite the uncertainty leading up the match after the tragic Sicilian murder.
Are we going to let the throwing of two empty plastic bottles- which didn't even get near the pitch- spoil the wonderful reputation that has won us accolades from UEFA and FIFA in the past?
Surely if the empty plastic bottles were not thrown from the official Celtic section then the home club are responsible under UEFA rules?
Were Rangers not held responsible as the home club when a Scottish anti-Palestinian demonstrator invaded the pitch at Ibrox?
My understanding of the rules is that the visiting club are responsible for the behaviour of their own fans in their official allocated area, but the home club are responsible for security in the rest of the stadium.
Part of Rangers defence over Osasuna is that the visiting fans in home areas is down to the poor security and organisation of the home club.
The derisory size of the fine shows that UEFA don't actually think this is a major inssue so I believe if we go in with a powerful legal defence we will overturn this undeserved slur on the support.
We can help the case by writing to UEFA outlining the praise showered on Celtic for the overwhelming good behaviour in Milan.
But let this eerve as a warning that there are people out there determined to blacken the good name of Celtic for even the most trivial offence in their campaign to link us with Rangers catalogue of sectarian hatred and violence.
The idiot who threw the bottle at the Scottish media bus (yes, that did happen) has in my opinion allowed our enemies to make a mountain out of a molehill by repeated inquiries and questions to UEFA.
We have see that tactic before and we will see it again as Rangers get more desperate.
We have to make sure we are whiter than white and that is down to all of to self-police our support.
-
Like most others i hope Scott McDonald is not the 'blue chip' forward we're looking to bring in.Although i think he would be agood addition to the sqaud.Tricky, decent first touch and will score a lot more goals than KM ever will.
On a different note,i cant see big eck doing us any favours regarding resting our players ahead of saturdays game.Im sure Miller will play the full 90 mins on wednesday, likewise Hartley and Elvis.McManus probably wont start as he is suspended for us against Dundee Utd.
-
hi all, long time lurker first time poster, enjoyed the chat hope to add to most debates from now on .
-
Lynott67 :- I think in this case Mr McLeish can't win, if he plays Celtic players he is accused of trying to tire them out, if he doesn't play them he will be accused of being biased and not picking the team for football reasons. A case of damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
-
Hows it going Wee Man ?
-
Ted-
Does that mean he is one of The Darnel ...............? ;~)
-
Let me get this straight, now.
Our manager is seen not to be influenced by who some supporters want to pick?
Well, thank goodness for that. Can you imagine how long team selection would take if we were all to have our say as well?
We wouldn't need a manager. We'd need the United Nations Genral Secretary (U Thant last time I remember, but he's probably been changed by now).
Imagine the pre match press conference? "Gordon, why have you picked Craig Beattie to start this game ahead of Kenny Miller and Magic Zurawski. Was it because of his goals against Georgia and Italy?"
"Well naw, no really Chick. I wanted to stick with Kenny for his team effort. We all know what Kenny does for the team and we value it. That's for sure.
But the Bellshill supporters club won the raffle last night to pick the forward line for this game and that's whit they've come up with. Craig and Cilian. Apparently somebody knows Craig's mammy really well. And they think it's time to give youth a chance.
Ahm no too sure myself about how Craig and Cilian will gel wi' the midfield that Dumbarton Harp have come up with, but we'll give it to half time. I can always get Tommy to run round and do a straw poll wi the weans at the front while I'm throwing teacups in the dressing room, and make the changes they want."
Post match could be interesting as well. "Well Gordon, it took the team a while to settle today but you got there eventualy."
"We did. We got the blend right in the second half thanks to they wee lads behind the goal. So we've invited them to pick the whole team next week. Jist a wee experiment to see if we can save some time in the consultation process. And they're weeer than me, so maybe I'll get my own way now and again."
Supporters picking the team? What next, the club captain?
Did I mention trhe other day that only twice in my time as a supporter have we gone 4 competitive games in a row without scoring? I did. One was in 1992 and the less said about that the better. The other was at the end of season 1965 / 66.
Just as well we gave Jock another season, eh? Don't remember him letting too many people influence his picks either. In fact, the surest way to make sure Jock didn't bring someone on was to sing for him.
Gordon Strachan has a big challenge coming up (another one) between now and next season. And it's not to win the league, although all the speculation, much of it prompted by our great supporters, about who will and who won't be around next season will not be helping with motivation.
His first big challenge, and the club's, is to attract players at the next quality level. I have no problem with Scott McDonald, as Newarthillbhoy says he will not be the first ex-Motherwell player to do well for us. But He's not the main event, any more than Dion Dublin etc. was at the time they were getting dogs abuse.
The next challenge is actually to move us forward again next season. We've take giant steps in the two seasons so far, we need another season of progress. And Rangers will be better next season (still inferior, but better).
He's up against the glass ceiling. He needs help to break it, not people sawing at the legs of his chair.

Fair point mate, could never quite decide if big eck was/is a good manager or just one of the luckiest ever...time will tell.
Used to attend Scotland games as a teenager, never been back to a Scotland game since Wembley 88 and that was only because i lived in London at the time.
Still like them to do well, but never quite got over listening to the booing of Jinky,Kenny,Danny,Charlie,Big Roy & Brian McClair to name but a few, by the tartan army.
Woulnt suprise me if Big Eck gets a result on wed though.

Over the weekend some discussion about supporting Celtic and supporting Scotland. Do any CQNers have any thoughts/experiences of supporting Celtic and supporting Norn Irn? Or is it just not done?[in which case forgive my naivety]
*Funny you should ask this question as I’m one of those Scots born Celtic supporters that don’t actively follow the NT, don’t dislike them and hope they lose either, just don’t care, in fact when KM scored against Italy I mentioned this to Mrs. TT as a BTW as we live in an area with a heavy Italian immigrant population, however my Celtic supporting da always watched out for the North.
When I was often asked when younger why I supported Celtic and not my local side Dumbarton my response was usually because my da supported them and he supported Celtic because his da supported them and he supported Celtic as he was Irish.
In saying that I never saw my da in colours or heard him sing a “rebel” song in my life although he spent his childhood summers out in Connemara but he could recite the Empire Exhibition Cup team, the Coronation Cup team and taught me Beattie, Donnelly, Fallon; Fernie, Evans Peacock; Tully, Collins, McPhail, Wilson and Mochan, he was Celtic through and through and his favourite Celtic players were the 2 Northern Irishman in the latter team although his favourite player of all time wasn’t a Celtic player but another Northern Irishman called Peter Doherty.
He never displayed any affection for the NT, I don’t know if that was because of any perceived injustices toward Celtic or just disinterest, in fact the only time I heard him talk of international football was when he mentioned that Eire were the first “foreign” side to win on English soil and he enthused of the captain of that side Manure’s Johnny Carey.
Then along came the 1958 World Cup and the finest team any of us had ever seen – Brazil with their 17 year old sensation Pele. I was just a wee loddie that summer and my mates and I were out on the grass across the burn fae Shandon Crescent trying to emulate the great players of that tournament the aforementioned Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Vava, Didi, Garrincha Uwe Seeler Raymond Kopa and the goal scoring sensation of Just Fontaine.
That World Cup also saw for the first time the qualification of all the home nations, highly favoured England with the likes of Billy Wright, Bobby Robson, Johnny Haynes, Tom Finney and Bobby Charlton were knocked out in a play off against Russian, while Scotland led by trainer Dawson Walker as Matt Busby was recovering from the Munich disaster, with the likes of Jeelyeater Ian McColl, Bobby Evans, Tommy Docherty, Dave Mackay, Bobby Collins and Willie Fernie had the toughest group, having to face Yugoslavia, Paraguay, and France came in last.
The other two home sides progressed into the quarter finals where a Welsh side containing the two Allchurchs and Charles were knocked out when Pelé scored the only goal and the North lost 4-0 with Just Fontaine scoring two.
That WC I saw for the first time my da supporting a NT and that was Peter Doherty led NI, you see his da came fae Fermanagh so he was a Northern lhad at heart, he cheered Busby Babe Harry Gregg, Willie Cunningham, Danny Blanchflower, Bertie Peacock, Billy Bingham, Wilbur Cush, Jimmy McIlroy and Derek Dougan, with the exception of Bertie not one of them was what we call Celtic Minded and he only because he played for us, but that didn’t matter, they were all fine players and wore the green, not the green and blue as now, with pride and like my da they became my heroes too.
A wee footnote here, Derek Dougan wrote the best fitba book I’ve ever read, it’s called “The Sash I Never Wore” and talks about what life may have been like for him if he wisnae a fitba player.

SF4,000 fine by UEFA? Anybody hear about this? Very worrying. Our neighbours willbe crowing about this.
Congratulations to Scotland, by the way, and especially to the Bhoys who gave their all. Was anyone else irked by Broadfoot's report of the match? Is it just me or does he get more and more openly pro-Rangers every week? Here's hoping Pressley gets the nod over that embarassing Weir on Wednesday.
-
I think Wattie is assembling a team of hammer throwers to secure the SPl and has no ambitions for Europe, save to get the turnstiles clicking a few times.
To this end, we too, need to toughen up, for the SPL as we have been mugged too often this season.
I see SMD as a wee street fighter in the mould of Maloney, only with a more consistent finish and a bit more tactical nous.
-
watched scotland game in pub in falkirk, the"famous tartan army" booed beattie on and then every touch, and, when maloney came on to waste time with a vital victory within graps, he too was roundly booed by the vast majority of the pub.
Also overheard conversations about "finding it hard to take to hartley now" and "i used to like him".
its no wonder a good many celtic fans are only half heartedly into scotland.
-
Kojo,
I concur fully on your Strachan thoughts, but the wee man is one stubborn sod. When his body and the hip doctor said enough of this football malarky he kept swallowing them thar bananas and carried on playing for 3 more years.
He knows, you know and I know, that young Deek is by far the man to shoot down them arabs - but i'd put my next mortgage payment on the best finisher at the club picking up some more bench skelfs.
All because of an ego.
It'll take Beattie and Miller to score a brace each before Strach gives A.N.Other a go.
PS - McDonald is next seasons back up.
-
"Appointing a good manager is beyond most clubs", especially when those running the show take the easy option and promote the number 2.
McLaren at England, Roeder at Newcastle, Pearce at Man. City, Chisholm at Dundeed Utd, that old geezer who took over at Charlton when Curbeshly left to name but a few.
Rarely works and smacks of poor management.
Re. Scott McDonald. Here we go again. Can we save the hysteria until the end of August?? If at that time our strike force consists of JVOH, McDonald, Miller and Beattie then I'll join you in the car park.
However, I really do not think it will come to that.
I will be delighted if at the end of August our strike force consists of JVOH, a top class finisher, Zurawski and McDonald.
Let's wait and see what happens.
Please.

What happend to the old horses for courses practise? Has WGS just followed suit with his previous manager and refused to drop players who quite clearly aren't doing it?
-
Shaun Maloney has said that he left Celtic for reason's other than to play in the EPL and for extra money.
Although he admits that they were factors in his decision.he is stating that there were other issues.
I remember someone posting on here when he was in negotiation's ,and stating that they knew him personally.
Does anyone know what the problem was?
-
Some interesting attempts at revisionism on here today.
Bare facts are that McLeish outmanaged the much lauded MON during his time in charge at Rangers. He did this both tactically in the early stages, and in terms of trophy delivery. 2-2 in leagues won (even allowing MON an unassailable start in 1 season). 2-2 in Cup wins, and 3-0 to Rangers in League Cups !)
Whilst Rangers initially had an expensively assembled team it was clearly downsizing throughout his 'reign'. This is an extremely challenging scenario to manage, even more so when MON and Celtic were continuing to spend at an unsustainable manner.
In terms of co eff points in Europe MON delivered only 5 more during his tenure vs McLeishes, depite the Seville season bonus.
-
GM
We require a like for like player to provide cover for JVOH.
Neither Magic or McDonald, fit the bill.
If we are to sign a prolific scorer then he would have to be in the JVOH ,BBJ,Sutton mould to get the balance right.
I don't buy the theory, that McDonald is back up.
We are very one dimensional when JVOH doesn't play.(which is quite often)
-
Lostramblingsat 14:20.. ive not mastered that wee trick that takes you back to it. You said we lost 9 points after playing in Europe in the Seville season and blame the european campaign for us losing the league.
I have posted on this before on here sorry but I cant agree with your logic.
The official Celtic site shows we dropped 17 points that season.
5 points where no european game was even close.
8 points dropped before we played a European game notable before we played Boavista (more of that later)
and only 4 points dropped after playing in Europe. 3-3 game against der huns after coming back from the might of Suduva where if my memory serves me right we played half a team and a 1-1 draw with the Ayrshire huns after coming back from Vigo.
In reality after the winter break we played 14 games and dropped 5 points a 1-1 draw with Dundee before we played Boavista at home and a 2-1 defeat aainst the minis before we played Boavista away.
The real problem that season was no one was taking points from the huns as we actually beat them twice in the league and drew the 3-3 game so we had a better head to head.
In the run we lost a last minute goal against the minis to lose the game and we also lost a last minute screamer against Dundee for them to bring it back to 6-2 put that togetehr with Thommos missed penalty in the last game and the league would have swung our way.
The league was lost in my opinion because no one else was beating der huns and as you say there looked more dodgy decisions from the MIB than at a pakistan cricket game.
We did lose 2 cup games after the 2 Liverpool games. 1 of them also had a dodgy refereeing decision and i bet you cant guess who it was against!!!!!
-
Hopefully if we can continue to dominate rangers on and off the field for the next few years the achievements of McLeish at Matchbrox will become legendary!
As for the O'Neill doubters in this site how many of you would have imagined (not dreamed) of Celtic being in a Euro final back in March 2000?
GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!

My dear friend, Jackd,
I see that you have been puzzled by the strange turn in events that have brought the hitherto sparkling success of Strachan's team selections, to this
sorry nadir.
The venerable,Horses for Courses Practicality worked... and worked very well, thankyou.
Strachan played his cards very effectively, and in doing so, reaped the intoxicating triumphs that were the results of a team well managed.
As the season progressed there was no doubt, that Strachan had done the job, once more, and the League Flag was inevitably destined to Fly at Celtic Park, for a second time in a row.
Confidence is a good thing.
Over confidence is a bad thing.
Almost imperceptibly, the pool of strikers, that Strachan had relied upon during the campaign, and which had performed admirably began to underperform.
The scoring of goals, which is a very essential facet in the winning of games, became a lost art among the various appointees that Strachan selected from his striking Pool.
The time had come, for Strachan to re-group and re-examine his team tactics and selections.
There had been warnings,of course... games that Celtic should have coursed to an easy victory, became desperate and frenzied pot boilers, ending in a breathless and nail biting victory.
Now dame Fortune, has been a generous benefactrix, smiling on her beloved,Bhoys... many a time....
However, Luck can carry a team only so far.
Something was clearly lacking in the composition of Mr. Strachan's selections.
But according to my lights, Strachan has been obdurate in simply refusing to change his tactics or instigate the task of re-invigorating his stable.
There are two players in particular, you know their names as well as I... both of whom have never been Celtic Class, but for a period of time, they did manage to perform adequately....alas... this is no longer the case.
Evidently, these two strikers and possibly a third, have at this juncture of the season, completely LOST THEIR CONFIDENCE and are turning in ..GAME AFTER GAME~......
Amateurish and totally unacceptable performances.
To continue to utilize their services, is tantamount to losing the game, before it has commenced.
It is THAT OBVIOUS.
Still, Mr. Strachan continues to PLAY THE FIDDLE, while Celtic's G.A. regains hope.
In closing.......
We see the Dundee Game as a Very Important GRAVE-STONE......on the road to CALAMITYVILLE!
Mr. Strachan must realize that the time has come to act like he should have been doing for the last several games, and CHANGE THE RECORD.....HIS QUARTER IS ALL USED UP!
Kojo
Yer Pal.... who t'inks yer swell.

Welcome the wee man.
BetterThanBanks, comment deleted. Multiple language violations, this is a Celtic site, remember that makes a difference.
TinyTim, if Shaun has said this, I would ignore his utterances. I repeatedly stated that he would not sign for Celtic unless they upped their offer considerably. It was a money issue, no more and no less.
-
Collie @ Kojo,
Old friends. The McDonald link has caught us all on the hop. I never expected such a link to surface. I thougt the WGS would more inclined to go for the rifle in Mr Sharp for back up.
Mr Nugent interest??? Well one would presume that it wil be all but dead now due to the call up to the England squad. His price will now have rocketed up a great deal.
The blue chip striker we crave to partner JVOH has he been identified?
How are the negos going on with Mr Joseph and Mr Sidwell?
My Team on Saturday against Dundee United would consist of dropping Wilson for Telfer, Lennon for Gravesen, Miller for Zurwaski, Beattie for Miller, Jarosik, for McGeady.
Team:
Boruc
Telfer
Pressley
O Dea
Naylor
Gravesen

Paul,
I think TinyTim is referring to a NOTW article where SM alluded to personal problems being a factor, but he never elaborated fully on it but said that he had discussed it a great deal with WGS.
He made it clear that his agent did what he told him to do, not the other way round. He seemed to imply that the move to Villa was a bit of an impulse thing (no pre-contract was discussed) and most interestingly, seemed to suggest that he had been both unfit and underperforming/undermotivated at Celtic, which seemed very much at odds with what I had heard previously about his attitude. Reading between the lines I got an odd impression that maybe Glasgow life was getting to him in some way.
I imagine that the personal issues may well have been solvable if the money was right, however.
-
My dear friend,WGS
The Mako target was not a surprise.
collie had hinted several times in different ways....
Celtic have been in negos for Two Months with Motherwell.
collie said for example....
He mentioned fast food out-let.... the one that we love to hate!
The description....collie went out of his way to describe the striker...
Could be Five Foot Three...no need for a giant... QUICK FEET!
collie had to be a bit more unforthcoming with his clues...
Remember, it was supposed to be a surprise, and to divulge the negos prematurely, was never an option......
The Kit Fox is still a viable target.
I know nothing about Nugent or Sidwell....
I believe their prices have escalated rather significantly...
If Celtic acquire a high priced Player, I believe that he will be a Mid- Fielder....who? I am not willing to say.
Celtic will buy and buy well in the Summer....they have learned by their mistakes of yesteryear....
F'rinstance.....
We had no inkling that Celtic were ever interested in Miller or Jarosik.
As time has revealed....they have both turned out to be disappointments.
Very bad scouting reports in both cases..... Gravesen?
Again.... Also a rush job!
This time, things are much different.
Strachan has started early, in pinpointing and assessing his targets.
Kojo.
Yer pal.....in the land beyond the sea.
-
Paul and Collie
Thanks for replying to my query.
For what it is worth, whilst not exactly shouting from the rooftops over his signing, I think that McDonald will be more of a threat than both Miller and Beattie.
I don't think that this will be the standard which we will be looking at in the summer. I will wait until September 1st, before passing comment on our signing policy.

KERRANG! CSC - ROCK ON - PLAY IT LOUD - ME 262
-
Forgive me father for I have read the daily record today.
In mitigation it was provided free by the supermarket where I ate my lunch.
The DR provided stats on Kenny Miller's scoring career at clubs. I don't remember the precise details but the picture was:-
He was only ever a prolific scorer when on loan at Stenhousemuir.
His ratio with Hibs, rangers and Wolves was around 1 in 3.
His ratio with Celtic is near 1 in 5.
This begs the question:- If he was producing at the 1 in 3 level, that he managed with his 3 main clubs, would he be acceptable as a "secondary" striker i.e. the guy who chips in with 15 to 20 goals to back up your 30 goal striker?
-
To all who posted last night on my Ashokan Farewell, a BIG THANK YOU.
The James Galway and Phil Coulter recording I spoke about was a download from Limewire.
SFTB,
Your video of the composer James Unger talking about the piece was particularly good, thank you for it.
I will just go into Window Media Plater and listen to it again.

My dear friend, Plato...
I agree with your comment... Mako will be a step-up from what we have at the present as a suitable time to time, partner for Jvoh.
And who knows?... if the Three Cousins are correct in their assessment of his potential as a nippy, whippy, predator......
Mako may turn out to be the next DIXIE!
I for one hope that we are successful in the negos.
Many's a slip etc....
Plato,pal...... somebody said...I think it may have been your namesake...
"The Cost o' Labor is the Cost o' Livin'!"
And the cost o' a good reliable goalscorer is escalatin' tae da moon!
If we get another one, besides, Mako....
He will likely come from the lower English League, anyway.
Any big money that we are willin' to splash...I estimate will be for a Mid- Field General....whom we are in Desperate Neeed of!
It will no be long till June....only two months.
Kojo.
Yer pal.... who likes yer nomme de blog!

I agree with Tom the Tim re where Rangers are headed in regards to next season. WS is getting together a Scottish core of varied die for the cause hammer throwers. And they will fight tooth and nail for the cause next season. They are already securing points - and for a team as unremarkable as we make them out it says a lot more about the rest of the league.
They simply will not lose games the way PLG allowed them to this season. And that will put a altogether different complexion on the Derbys (derbies???) next season.
So my hopes are, whatever our signings over the coming months, that we sign players who can and will day in day out beat Rangers (On a level playing field of course) home and away. I think it is crucial we stamp out any notions they have of a pheonix from the flames type of revival. And that means winning the league right out of the park.
Night Night all.
-
The Bhoy Banana, Shaun had offers from 4 English clubs well before the last transfer window opened. The state of his fitness/preparedness to play was also questioned.
Whatever his issue, you are right, money would have made it go away.
-
Kojo,
The midfield general wouldn't happen to be a dutch maestro who has kind of lost his way a bit?
-
Ulysses-
As much as Wattie failed down south and in europe he does know what it takes up here.
I keep getting a horrible feeling that this season is going to the wire.
Saturday is a massive game for us,anything less than 3pts and WGS is going to be under real pressure.
I cant see hun dropping much in next two games,i just hope he makes the changes that the team's crying out for..will be interesting to see his line up.
-
lynott67 - please..... Real Pressure ??? I would like some real pressure in the league but 10 points isn't - no matter what happens we will win the league - let's worry about something else, like WHEN we will win it; obviously it woudl be nice to win at home
Keep the Faith :-)
-
With regards to a back-up for JVoH, maybe Cillian Sheridan could be used for this purpose. We could also buy a striker who can score goals.
Hail Hail
-
McDonald's scoring record is 12 goals in 31 appearances, one of which came in a cup game against Morton.
Hardly sets the heather on fire.
Looking at the record in depth he has scored only 2 goals when playing against one of the top 5.
1 against us, naturellement, and 1 against Hibernian.
Verdict:
Not prolific enough against the top sides in the SPL.
Of greater concern is his disciplinary record.
He has 7 yellow cards, more than any other player in what is hardly a team of shy retiring gentlemen.
How many more will he collect if he dons the hoops?
Verdict:
Guilty of being indisciplined and unsuitable.
'GG the judge
-
Why all the negative comments, hand ringing and pessimism over the visit to Dundee?
So far this season we have taken 6 goals off them in 2 games.
We scored 4 on our previous visit.
With players fresh after a week off, JVOH two weeks fitter, Magic with a game or maybe two more under his belt and the team focused on the finishing line, I expect a rout.
Yes a rout where we equal or better our 4 from last time.
Get right into them.

While I'm here(last post as i'm at work), I don't know the McDonald lad but seems to have a decent record over last 3 seasons. An Aussie, these guys are naturally very fit and strong and with an Aussie fitness coach on our books, no doubt this lad could step up, no problem.
So I say why not? Great squad addition, after all that is what we are (hopefully)building, a good strong squad. Flamin' great mate:)
-
Tell me this.
Is it just my green and white myopia, or was it Jock's genius, or was it just one of those things, you know, accident, that the archeytpal football team just happened to be then? Like monkeys throwing paint at a canvas and eventually coming up with the Mona Lisa.
But whenever I think of a midfield general, I think, well, Bremner, Chartlon, McStay, and, eh, before any of them, Bobby Murdoch. Lampard or Carragher and their like never cross my mind (although Deco's not bad is he?)
Whenever I think of a centre half and captain I think Charlton (the other one) England Yeats and eh, before any of them, Billy Mc Neill.
Carlos Puyol, I'll give you, and a few others I suppose.
Winger? Ha.
Versatile full back? Big Tam of course.
Midfield schemer and subtle hard man? Bertie, before Deco.
And so on.
Nah, it's just me isn't it? Stuck in the past. Ah well.
-
Paul at 23:08. You say that Shaun had offers from 4 English clubs before the transfer window. MoN said he never approached Shuan until the Monday before deadline day. So are you saying Shaun knocked back 4 offers and then AV were the fifth or are you saying AV were 1 of the 4 and MoN is being economical with the truth.
-
gl2
Does it really matter?
Shaun has gone - whether to ever make it "big" in the EPL is something that is of no relevance to any of us now.
And if MoN was economical with the truth then so what - good managers always dodge and weave when being pestered about signing targets in the trnasfer window.

The famous 1 is the irish fiddler but I find it is a mixed crowd of people wanting to watch the game and their families. ie women (helmet on expecting a doing). There is another 1 which is used by Scottish bhoys which is just along the road from it and its cheaper and everyone is just in it to watch the game. I cant rememeber the name of it but if yo uare stuck I can give you directions.

Where's ya undies?
The Englishman's wife steps up to the tee and, as she bends over to place her ball, a gust of wind blows her skirt up and reveals her lack of underwear. "Good God, woman! Why aren't you wearing any undies?" her husband demanded. "Well, you don't give me enough housekeeping money to afford any."
The Englishman immediately reaches into his pocket and says, "For the sake of decency, here's $20. Go and buy yourself some underwear."
Next, the Irishman's wife bends over to set her ball on the tee. Her skirt also blows up to show that she too is wearing no undies. "Blessed Virgin Mary, woman! You've no undies. Why not?" She replies, "I can't afford any on the money you give me." He reaches into his pocket and says, "For the sake of decency, here's $10. Go and buy yourself some underwear!"
Lastly, the Scotsman's wife bends over. The wind also takes her skirt over her head to reveal that she, too, is naked under it. "Sweet mother of Jesus, Aggie!
Where are yer drawers?" She too explains, "You dinna give me enough money ta be able ta affarrd any." The Scotsman reaches into his pocket and says,"Well, fer the love 'o Jesus, here's a comb. Tidy yerself up a bit."
