Happy Birthday
-
nice sentiment paul but tpoty must go to the best player
imo artur boruc has been the our match winner on more occasions than anyone else this season
-
Paul,
Do you think Russell Anderson is not going to win it then?
-
i think when we talk of the big stage, its interesting that where naylor has been at his best
despite a dip in form he was outstanding against milan in italy
His crossing has not been as good lately but i put that down to him not having had alot of targets and having to find 1 man
i think if we got a right back as good we could stop the shipping of goals away in europe in the main (milan excluded obviously)
-
Tom the Tim, I am pleased for Russell Anderson, but if ever there was a stalking horse…
-
Am I back?
-
cheers Noel.... I still dont know what I did but it seemed to have worked.
-
Totally agree with Lee Naylor for the award. Excellent bit of business signing him. To think that Mo Camara kept him out the Wolves team.
-
I get the impression that A. Boruc would want the award to use as an excuse for more money or a move away from Celtic whereas L. Naylor i think would accept it and thank the fans for helping him achieve his goal of playing at the very top level.
-
Good Luck to Aiden in the Young Player of the Year.
Too often a players form dips after securing a new contract - His has not.
-
Just picked up tickets for Kilmarnock, wishing it was the weekend already!!! Feels like this title win was never going to come.
naylor and mcgeady for the double
-
Bhoy I Bhoy, good point. Lee’s Wikipedia entry recorded that he had been dropped for Mo Camara, how misleading was this snipped of information?
It was probably correct, though I checked, and Lee had played at least 24 games every season since breaking into the Wolves team, so maybe “dropped” was too strong a word.
Either way, it gave Lee a mountain to overcome before he had kicked a ball. There is a lesson there.
Pob, I can’t help but think Aiden is abandoned on the wing too often. He is our best ‘out ball’ and he draws 2 or 3 defenders, but he needs more support than he is getting.
-
Paul,
Have been shouting for him to get it since December.
Gaun yersel Lee.
-
i have a feeling that we won't get both.
Charlie adam for young player is a joke he has no consistency.
One suspects brown will get it ~(because he is non old firm and scottish) and suddenly his value will go up again (hibs will be loving it)
-
The sheep rustlers seem to have great affection for Anderson Russell, they did a big poster thing of him for his testimonial and showed us it earlier in the season, it looked quite lifelike but seemed to move quicker.
Anyone seen oor Lenny poster recently ? Celtic To The Core and the apple of my eye.
WeeGrannysmith
-
I agree, Lee Naylor is the man to take the title as player of the year. He has been quite outstanding all be it in a rather quite way. Real value for money if not the greatest in flair to, think we could have paid a lot more for a lesser player, good business by us on all accounts. I just hope he maintains his current level of form for next season (and improves) as I am sure our friends at the other end of the city will be far better equiped next year. Then again so should we!
-
The best thing ever would be if we could acquire the darnelists' lesser-spotted Le Guen poster for the match at Megiddo in May. However they've probably long burned it.
-
It was suggested earlier that Lee Naylor was inclined to wind up opposing players but I can`t believe he would have been voted for if he did.
Scott Brown? Err?
-
Paul totally agree re Lee Naylor, without question the best bit of business that Msr's Peter and Gordon have done this season, probably one of the most underrated players in the UK.
Just an aside in regards to the fans of the club, negativity breeds negativity just like respect.
So respect your Club and Manager your Players and Fellow Supporters and remain faithful through and through!

Antsman, I like Charlie Adam as a player; he has been a big find for Rangers this season.
On another subject, I see the share price bounced almost 10% this morning. Hmmm.
"Follow the money", said 'Deepthroat'. Did I ever tell you my 'Deepthroat' funny story?
-
Paul.
I hope Naylor gets the award,A wee dip in form for a month but played through it and probably the most consistent over the season,He should get the award for all the kicks he got during the season.
-
Paul
I just sold that second hand on amazon.
Got a fiver for it. What a movie.
-
Actually now that I think about it did Kojo not make reference to Deepthroat recently ?
Might be thinking about a Simpsons episode 'mind.
Ahhh the the NCPCFC transfers.
apologies thinking very slowly aloud.
-
paul
could the rise in the share prize be solely down to another cup final appearance?
it seems unlikely - if not then what do you think might be the reason?
the run to the cup final will mean that we will likely make more money in the second half of the season than last year. the early exit from the cup must have cost us 2m+ last year, money which we would have budgeted for as income.
and for the follow follow lurkers out there - the link you have on your website to the disgusting website about jock stein is shameful.
-
-
What's the gossip on the share price? Hope we're not the subject of a take-over, the last thing we need is some Russian gangster in charge.
-
Ha! Ha! I have just remembered my login/password combo!!
Rejoice!
Anyhoo,
Paul
You seem to be in a rather cheeky chatty mode this fine day, ever thought of starting a blog to share your thoughts? ;-)

Whitedog, the story:
I was at my desk when an engineer came through to tell me about a major client problem. We discussed for a moment and then pulled together a plan of action.
Two minutes the client chief exec was on the phone, before he spoke I said, “Alistair, it’s OK, we are taking care of it”. I had watched the movie ‘All the President’s men’ the previous night, which involved the character, Deepthroat.
He said, “Do you know what I am calling about”.
I recalled a scene from All the President’s men, where Woodward was speaking to a reluctant informant, and said “If I am right, say nothing, you only need to speak if I am wrong”.
I said to my client, “Have you seen the movie Deepthroat?” confusing the movie I had watched with a character in the movie.
“No”, my client answered.
“Great movie, you should watch it”, I said to a rather quiet client.
I then said, “If I am right, say nothing, you only need to tell me the story if I am wrong”.
The call then ended very quickly. I put down the phone and thought, “the movie is not called Deepthroat”.
I no longer give movie reviews to clients.
Watchow, I don’t think Scottish Cup revenue is significant enough to push the share price.

looking forward to sunday hopefully a champion of a day and also if i can find my invite free drink from WG.

My favourite Lee Naylor moment of the season was his amazing defensive tackle/block against AC Milan just outside the 6 yard box to stop an almost certain goal. It's a controversial comment but I think Naylor is a better player than MacNamara and over the course of his time at Celtic I think he will prove this.
It's a shame that Wilson has been injured most of the season as I think he can be as good as Naylor (let's remember that Wilson is still much younger than Naylor) and i'm looking forward to next season having both full backs fit and ready for the next lot of challenges.
-
Controversial - hasn't he been 'garbage' since christmas whilst the perhaps Roberto Carlos / Cafu hybrid JJP Doumbe sits on the bench?
Naylor has had an excellent season, save a rough patch which he played his way our of earlier this year. Having said that I'm astonished it's he and not McManus up for the award, perhaps he's delivered too many bruises to opposition players to be recognised. Hey, even his own fans gloss over his ability and improvement.
I'm looking forward to seeing Boruc, Naylor, Wilson, McManus and Caldwell start next season - they were beginning to look an impressive defence of mid to early 20 year olds. Add O'Dea to the mix and maybe an additional wide full back purchased or promoted and things are looking good at the back.
I'll be leaving the rest of the team for another day though!
-
Totally off topic ...
I was reading about Pierre Van Hooijdonk recently and had checked out his goalscoring record throughout his professional career. Its pretty astounding. He has scored 329 goals in 514 - I cant imagine many better in a top level career in europe spanning over 15 years....

Perhaps McManus isnt up for it as with a completely fully fit squad I wouldnt see him in the first x1 in our team nevermind the best in the league.
Personally I was dissaponted not to see McGeady up for both player and young player award...
-
View from across the Channel.
Like us, Lyon will win their league next week if they win their next game. Last night they beat a team in the bottom 3, Sedan, by a single goal. At home.
Not classic stuff, but will clinch them 6 titles in a row.
Unlike in Scotland, the media praise them on a number of fronts, not least for winning ugly since their dip in form after November.
How did they do in Europe ? Knocked out by Roma in the last 16.
Yep, that 3rd div. team from the Italian Adriatic league.
Budget for next season? £30M or above.
City bosses will have open top bus parade to hail the champions and allow the fans to view the trophy.
Any chance GCC could organise the same for us ?
-
Michael_67
McManus not in our first XI with a fully fit squad? Can't see it, I think he's by far our best centre half and the best defender in Scotland - taking over from Bobo who was the previous best. I'd say in about 6 weeks time he will inherit the armband as Celtic captain at 24 years old and will go onto be a legend.
I see very few British central defenders who have as much ability as McManus. He was excellent in the Champions League matches.
I know people have massive hopes for JFK but McManus has shown over 80 odd games the sort of form that he did over 16 until the shocking events AND O'Dea has started better than both of them!
-
antibes an interesting point on the media slant. I saw part of the FA cup yesterday and they were praising Chelsea for scoring 9 goals in the 90th minute or later to win games this season. Up here that would eb scraping by teams not playing on to the final whistle.
-
deepthroat
i thought that was an army barrack
if so it is well named.
-
-
alright, maybe 'legend' is a bit much...
-
Here's a thought. Perhaps Saturday's outpouring of frustration as signified by the embarrassing and disgraceful booing of a segment of TGFITW, will be like the lancing of a festering boil. Now that the bad stuff has been exorcised, the support can get back to doing their proper job, i.e. supporting.
Just a thought.
Sean,
Your elevation of LN over JMcN is in no way controversial, as ,whatever Jackie brought to the team, it was certainly not as a full back.
It took Jansen two games, Dunfermline and Hibs, to suss that out.
-
Martin (ex) 42,
I see what you mean about the Google account thing.
Jebus!
Anyhoo looks like I'm working again.
Does anyone have any news on how the cup final tickets are allocated? i.e if I am on the home cup DD scheme and have attended both the Dumbarton game and semi final (but not the Livvy away game) do I get priority for the final?
The renewal form for this season stated that you would get priority if you joined the cup ticket DD scheme but I have heard comments from other epople suggesting that this is not the case and final tickets would be allocated first come first served.
vclxi (I think)
-
paul67
i am not questioning Adams ability but he has no consistency from what i hear from my rangers daft uncle. For me thats got to be a factor. also his final ball lets him down often, tho the same thing could be levelled at aiden and he is still young.
-
TomtheTim-I don't know if you were at the game but the reception the substitution got came from the whole grapefruit, rather than just a segment. It was probably the loudest noise we made all game, unfortunately.
I also think that rather than lancing the boil it's just going to give us another scab to pick.
-
-
Harald,
I referred to a "segment" so as not to incur the wrath of those who chose not to let themselves down.
I watched the game in a pub in Ireland and I think the last time I was ashamed of the support was back in the early 60's at another cup semi against St.Mirren at Inbox.
What is it about Saints and semis? Maybe WG has the answer.
-
HI All,
Lee Naylor has been an excellent signing despite almost universal reservations about his pedigree he has, for me, been our most consistent player this season, made some fantastic blocks when it seemed certain the opposition would definitely score and taken some very heavy physical punishment into the bargain.
Naka will always get the recognition and admiration due to "That free kick" in particular and Artur has made some blinding saves but Mr Consistency? Definitely Lee Naylor hope he wins it!
Hail Hail!

Harald,
Probably the same mob, offspring of the 60's tribe. Must be a genetic thing.
Not to worry, they gave the tabloids their copy for the resr of the season and enough ammunition to try and lever us towards looking for a new manager.
All in all a good day's work for the deadbeats.

G
-
It had better be greenandwhitehoops..
-
Greenlion...even in England, they praise winners most of the time, even though they may not be the pundits favourite team. Chelsea being a good example.
Lawrenson is about the only pundit who still slags anyone except his beloved Liverpool, but he is an exception.
Each time I watch Celtic games or (worse !) listen to Radio Scotland, the agenda is clear. Most pundits in Scotland preferred us when it was the 90's, run by the White's, and ending up 3rd/4th/5th in the league.
5 titles out of 7 has them tying themselves in knots and wishing we'd fall faster than the next property crash. Let's keep them there...even if we only win the league by 10pts next year and scrape every away game with a 91st minute deflection after being out-possesed 60%-40%. :)
-
Rumour has it that it will be plain white with green trim as a tribute to our first strip...

New strip has a release date of 25 May 2007...maybe that's a clue as to which strip it will be based on?
There was a picture doing the rounds with a special Lisbon badge showing the date etc on it as well as a quote from Jock Stein.
Be good to see Hampden filled with them!

i see kilmarnock might make more tickets available for celtic fans on sunday. Dont know whether celtic should be grateful or feel sorry for them. Sad state of affairs down there

talking of revenue, the last strip which was for 2 seasons of course ends this year, meaning there will be a big increase in number of strips sold this summer i would think
-
with regards to the young player of the year if brown gets it his value in theory goes up
What price would you be happy us paying for him?
with his injury and disciplinary record and lack or credentials on bigger stage i would say £2.5-£3m with add ons would be more than fair tho i suspect hibs would disagree. to put into context grav was £2m and naka £1.25
-
Evening, Noel, i enjoyed the Fergus McCann video from the last thread. I thought he was lookin well. Did you ever get to stamp the back of his neck ( is there such a place as the back of your neck!!!!)?
Anyway, i'm getting sick of the phrase "to be fair". I dont think there's a pundit out there who doesn't use it. Its like, when they can't think of anything else to say they just say it. BFDJ used it the other day when there was a crunching tackle during the other semi "to be fair to the lad it was a bad tackle..."
That Phil guy on sky sports is another wan..."to be fair to the lad he's made a mess of it..."????
Dearie, dearie me. Anyway my vote for the POTY would be between Lee and Artur..with Lee edging it as least was expected of him. Goes about his business,no aires(?) or graces, bang, thud, wallop, pass, thank you very much and i'll be on my way ! "what time next week? righto see you then" A credit to our family .
"to be fair to the lad, he used to play for Wolves..."

tottenham appear to have registered an interest in scott brown, and theres been rumours of interest from bolton and wba.
i know that until there's an offer on the table from any one of these clubs then its all rumour and hearsay, and it could be the agent or the selling club at it. but if its true that epl clubs are interested, as well as the rumoured deal for him to be offered to rankgers first, i have a feeling that he'll end up going for more than we value him at. petrie will sell to the highest bidder and i would have thought his preference would be to a non-spl club.
i would love to see him at cp. i think its less and less likely now.

I sat near the area where Lee Naylor went off for treatment on Saturday, and he was trying to get the ref's attention to enter the field again, only for our physio to tell him he had been substituted. He was absolutley gutted, everyone near me saw this and he got a great reception as he walked past. This wasn't a show for the fans this was genuine, he was gutted at having been subbed!
As much as i like Tommy Graveson, it's a hell of alot of money to shell out for a guy to start the sing songs for the fans!!

If anyone can help me get my user name jackd back would be appreciated.

are you having a laugh? lee naylor for player of the year? he might be considered when he can go through a big game without needlessly giving the ball away at least five times with silly passes, and when he learns to cross the ball with consistency. he is a decent player, nothing more!

I try not to get too cut up with the media because I come to expect it but is it just me or do you think this article just quite cynical?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/k/kilmarnock/6561181.stm
The title in itself 'Killie clampdown on Celtic fans' gives the impression the fans are animals who are doing something drastically wrong, possibly tearing apart Rugby Park. The reality is that Celtic can win the league at the weekend and a number of fans will want to be there for this historic moment and naturally will try to get tickets for the home end if they can't get tickets for the away end. This is something you can expect no matter what team is in this position yet I can't help get the impression of 'don't give those animals your tickets or else'.
But anyway this is irrelevent because the article has little in relation to Celtic fans instead it's a warning to Killie's own fans who may try and make some money out of this situation by selling their tickets. Kilmarnock have every right to ban their own fans who give tickets to opposition fans for the home end - although it's quite a drastic action imo - but surely the title would be better as 'Kilmarnock fans informed about new safety measures'or anything a little less antagonizing and judging towards Celtic fans in such a needless way.
-
lee naylor for player of the year? no way, he should be considered when he is able to compete in a big game without frequently giving the ball away with silly passes, his crossing has to improve as it is far to inconsistent, he is at the bottom of all the contenders for player of the year, he is a decent player, nothing more

Gary Conroy, gary1967 (is there more than one Gary with the same view on the blog at the same time?), Scotland’s professional footballers hold Lee’s talents in a much higher regard than you do.
They have not only “considered” him, they have rated him in the top four players in the league.
Maybe they are wrong and you are right. Maybe you could be missing something. What do you think?

all players lose possession from time to time it's impossible not to but the important thing is to not lose possission in a dangerous area and I don't recall Lee Naylor ever losing the ball in a dangerous position in a big game or ever putting us under any needless danger unlike quite a few members of our team, Gravesen has been the biggest culprit in big games (I do like him btw), I can't recall Naylor making major mistakes in the smaller games either. On top of that I don't recall any goals against us in Europe being his fault, instead I can remember him saving us a few times with wonderful tackles. His primary job is defending and he does it well. His crossing has been patchy at some points of the season but he mainly gets the ball into dangerous areas, anyway with Jan being injured much of the season it can't be easy for him crossing the ball to players who are not renowned for their arial ability in compact defenses. The fact the England manager is considering him for a call up and the fact he has been involved in the England team throughout the youth set ups shows that he must have some more quality than you give him credit for.
-
BFDJ reckons Brown will cost 3 to 4 million quid. I wouldn't endorse us paying that for any young unproven player.
-
the fact that he has been nominated for scotlands player of the year, in a year where the candidates have been poor at best, means very little, the fact that a goalkeeper has been nominated (although he is an amazing goalkeeper) doesnt look good for the outfield players playing in scotland, or for celtic for that matter. naylor is a decent player but if u watch him, particularly in europe, he loses possession far too often and although he gets in good positions, doesnt get his crosses by the first man often enough. hell will freeze over before you see lee naylor in an england shirt
-

i agree with your points on naylor, but i can not see why u think steve mclaren is considering him. he was down to the bare bonbes for the last squad with cole out, bridge out and he still never called up naylor instead playing phil neville. that shows where naylor is with the england set up, nowhere near it. Even barry struggles to get near it and he plays in the prem.

Has anyone else got the Hallmark LP
GLASGOW CELTIC THE CHAMPIONS
DOUBLE CHAMPIONS 1970-71.
The front cover is a colour photo of Jinky, The Buzzbomb, Big Tid and Murdy emerging from the old tunnel at half-time at Celtic Park. It's evidently a winter's afternoon given the parkas, raincoats and duffel coats visible in the crowd in the enclosure to either side of the tunnel. Bunnets are much in evidence and the spectators look as if they're twenty years behind 1970-71. Oddly there is not one scarf or Celtic favour to be seen among this bunch. Jinky looks as if he has a score to settle wi some hapless left-back. Even the Buzzbomb looks serious (maybe we were gettin beat at the time).
I've also got the other LP
THE HOLY GROUND OF GLASGOW CELTIC
wi the big rosette on the front. What I love most about the rosette is that there is a shamrock above a silver trophy. On said trophy is written the word CUP just in case you were strugglin to identify silverware like the darnelists will be this year.
They'd ban these albums nowadays but I still play them from time to time amid the snap, crackle and pop of the scratches.
I've a few other bits of Sellik vinyl kickin around so let's be avin ya........

Theres a good chance that Killie are going to give Celtic an increase in their ticket allocation,Thats according to the official site.
-
Re the Kilmarnock ticket caper (Part 3). I'm in agreement wi Arthur Lee on this one though logistically what he has in mind is an impossibility. It would be brilliant if the darnel screw up on Saturday and we could tell Kilmarnock to stick their tickets were the sun don't shine.

Well it was Mclaren's words that he was impressed by Lee Naylor's form and that he has been monitoring him. I admit i'm sceptical that he will get called up also just for the fact he's playing in Scotland. If he has another season performing well in the Champions League I think he stands a good chance of being brought into the England squad.
I understand why McClaren went with Neville as he's an experienced proffessional who has been around for a long time but he doesn't have much longer left in him so new back ups will need to be found for Wayne Bridge and Ashley Cole and Naylor's main competition is Leighton Baines for that place. I don't think he is anything near as good as Naylor.
The fact Naylor is still quite young and has been capped at under-21 level will put him in a better position than Thompson was for getting into the England team.
