Just posted this on other theread.
I'm with the wiz - I'll take GS's treatment of the press all day, every day. It is not without precedent. Remember Kenny Dalglish and the Pub/Club press conferences? The short shrift given to a certain Mr Keevins?
I'mm all for any form of destabilisation of the press - it's an old horse that is running short of corn. Glue anyone?
As WinninGemmell has pointed out - they are sick of this Celtic team. there are looks of 'does not compute!' on their faces. Us winning the league will be blessing to the press as (Again as WG points out)they can get to work manufacturing stories of The Return of the King of Govan to his rightful throne. Jim White, The Greatest Scotland manager since the last greatest Scotland manager and Charlie Nicholas tried desperately hard to convince us that we did not deserve or merit yesterday's result. Never a penalty - apart from the fact it was and we scored it. But wait a wee minute let's look at it from every possible angle that cements the 'dodginess' of it. Oh and how dare that big Jan fella score another one. And also how come that Boruc does his job properly?
GIRUY.
A final in the sun playing whomever - bring it on.

Shame on you, Ulysses, you already posted that on the previous thread, and have obviously denied someone the right to have first place. Although John H doesnt deserve it with a `test`. Neither does Mcgrain in Spain, cos he just copied something about googling. Leave first spot to more deserving needs..

"Celtic ease into fifth Cup Final in seven years"
Ease? Are you serious? When you cruise to a 2-0 lead at half time and see the game out keeping the ball, then you could say that you 'eased' to a win. Sorry but when you rely on a soft penalty, the first division opposition's woeful profligacy in front of goal and are actually running the ball into the corner at the end, I fail to see how that could be construed as 'easing' into the final.
How about changing the article's title to "Celtic scrape their way into fifth Cup Final in seven years".

Celtic's progress has engendered disappointment on the part of the media who were hoping for another Family Final.
From The WG Dictionary -
Family Final - a Cup Final played between two teams who are not Celtic or the darnel where dad can purchase as many tickets as he wants for his family members. This Final will probably be dad's first match watching this particular team since his last Family Final. cf: The 1991 Greatest Scottish Cup Family Final Of All Time when alsation dugs dressed in 'claret and amber' wandered the MLs.

I didn't get a tenner out of the sharp suited one.
I got a phone call late on friday night to say he couldn't make it as he would be out of the country on club business.
DEEK and CALDWELL turned up and were happy to sign autographs and get the usual pictures taken.
DEEK wasn't upset about getting subbed yesterday and said that he actually enjoyed the day though he was dissappointed with himself that he didn't score.
A smashing character and i for one hope that he gets a run in the team.

Can anyone remeber a season were we have been so bad but have achieved so much?
-
I notice Gordon Strachan has said his reasons for taking of Riorhdan were that he was tired and his passing had gone awry.
If thats the case why did he bring on Miller? His passing is always awry. Moreover, why didnt he take off Lennon after his many aberations yesterday?
Another point of note...
Not only do we lack cohesion now but we also lack dig. Too many players losing the ball and chucking it, not chasing back. Witness Naylor and Lennon closoing down Peter Mcdonald at the corner flag. Naylor chooses to move away from his goal side position and allow McDonald to run free. Lennon and Naylor stand and look at each other like a couple of haddies.
While I'm on Naylor, why does this player come in for more physical abuse than any other in Scotland from his fellow pros?

couple of points..
firstly
john collins in interview after semi today more or less hinted he expects players to act like professionals in every manner of being a pro....sounds like the le guen idea, where some players just cant hack the demands that are set out for them ie a complete change of footballing mentality (training and diet). oddly enough being endorsed by bubble heads at radio scotland.except smith of course
secondly
southgate at the semi final today,
commentators saying he was up looking at scott brown...BFDJ AND NED FLANDERS stated yesterday that brown was defo going to ipox.why would southgate waste his time.

Watched the New England Revolution-
Toronto FC game last night, with an eye on Shalrie Joseph.
The Revolution hammered Toronto 4-0 and Joseph scored one by penalty kick. (he is their usual penalty taker).
By the way, Toronto's manager is none other than Mo Johnston. Guess which team I was rooting for?
Joseph is a big lad, 6ft 3inch. Overall he did well.I was impressed with his skill level, strength and tenacity, his PACE - he moved the ball quickly out of defence and covers more gorund than any Celtic midfielder I have seen in a long time.
On the downside his man marking was a bit suspect. When T.O. was on the move he did not pick up loose players in a potentially dangerous position. Dont know if thats the zone marking strategy the Revolution have or a weakness with the player.
The Revs play a 3-5-2 formation with Joseph said to be a holding midfielder. He is like Sno with even more energy and PACE.
He is a big fan favourite and has a good reputation in the MLS.
The old media had previously said that Celtic made 2 offers for him in the past. The first at a million and the second at 2 million.
He will be 29 in a months time.
My conclusion: worth having, but no more than 1 million.

Watched it masell CanajunBhoy, I found Charlie to be a bit lackadasical and was caught ball watching a few time one of which could have been costly in the first half, good penalty though, but is he any better than we have in the stiffs.
I enjoyed the game and was surprised at the standard although it should be noted that the this was TOs second official game while the Revs have been about for a while. Stevie Nicol looked more interested in the proceedings than the wee Raphael on the TO side.
BTW you should hear his Sheena Easton type accent, believe me Scots in the TO area peak as if they were still at hame. Wonder if he takes in any Scottish games via sattelite and if he does where he watches them.

Thanks to the earlier posts describing how to post here and good day to all.
Got to throw my tuppenceworth in. I've more than a little disillusioned with the sheer volume of ill conceived negativity in recent weeks. The notion that WGS should be under any pressure from the support makes us look like the worst kind of glory hunting johnnycomelately fans in the UK.
Sure enough we're not playing very well just now, but it's costing us nothing... i mean what were we hoping for after Milan anyway?
Maloney left, in my opinion our best player at the time. Petrov left, best at that time. Someone asked if they could remember a season when we played so poorly and achieved so much, i would ask can you remember a season when we had so many key players injured and achieved so much.
I suspect most WGS baiters know how ridiculous the argument is. I hope after a positive summer of refreshing, this is acknowledged in the same fervent manner next season.
On a less positive note, Hartley, Pressley (by some way), and Miller were my least favourite Scottish players for a long time (actually Billy Dodds deserves a mention. Curiously only Miller has risen in my esteem since signing.
I'll take everything back if Pressley starts any significant games next season.

Blackburn 1 Chelsea 2 -
5 minutes left in the 2nd period of extra time.
Come on Blackburn.
-
Long time lurker first time poster. Thanks to noel90 for earlier advice.
I noticed that yesterday Hartley made a third man run into the box. I reckon that's the first time since his debut. As that was his strength at Hearts and he showed only mediocrity at his other clubs when playing to different instructions I would love to know the logic behind the tandem sitting role he is now generally playing. From being a tactical genius, turning games around with substitutions, there seems to be a growing impatience with this and a few other selection conundrums. I am a fan of WGS so am happy for the time being to trust that he knows what he is doing but good grief are we a hard team to watch just now.

I think that it`s the other teams that are making the Celts hard to watch. How many of our midfield can`t be pushed off the ball? Who can win it back?
The Bhoys need to find ways of getting the ball back before the crosses come in the box.

Welcome, if I may say so.
We are a hard team to watch, and we are a hard team to beat.
Some people are putting their own egos and convictions ahead of the team, the club.
Nothing new in that, it's an integral part of the Celtic psyche.
Just before we inherit the earth, we destroy ourselves. Jock's genius was that he took us by surprise.

First of all i am not patronising you.I can see from your posts that you are forthright and intelligent.
I respect what you are saying and understand where you are coming from.
I just see thing's differently.
You obviously have a very low opinion of me as a Celtic fan. Those who know me, know that i am faithfull through and through.
This is the umpteenth time that i have had my Celtic credentials called into question on this site.
If it makes you feel any better then ,i am a terrible fan.
I simply have much higher expectation's than you have.
I have not lost my sense of perspective, from the dark day's of The Darnel's 9NRO.
You obviously love the Celtic, but i can assure you, know more than i do.
Despite the poor standard of football that we are having to watch, week in ,week out.
I will ,as alway's, renew my 3 season tickets, and be attending most of Celtic's domestic home and away fixtures and the European fixtures again next season.
I will contiune to spend a small fortune ( like many others) following us abroad, hoping for that ever elusive away win.
I am so sorry that you have such a low opinion of quite a sizeable proportion of the Celtic support.
I also did not draw a comparison between the Chris White era and the present teams performance.
I was making the point that there is nothing wrong with being a dissenting voice.
If thing's continue as i fear, then there will be far more voices like mine being heard.
The tone of your e-mail's to me is still one of insult.
I have tried not to reply in the same manner.
I think that it's best that we drop this one, as i see no room for either of us changing our opinion's.
I hope the sun shines warmly on your back, and that we both enjoy Hampden in the sun.
Hail! Hail!

I'm with you on most issues Paul and I've never been in the mineshaft but to say we 'eased' into the final is delusional.
We struggled against a 1st Div side who couldn't finish the chances they created. For the 1st time ever I was bored watching my Team!
The 'experts' say the guys are tired - Tired??? Why are they tired? Is it over-coaching? I don't know but I trust Gordon to get it right. Never felt so flat in this position before.

Interesting piece on accepting the US$
The next few weeks are critical for the Glazer's, win a treble and the smoke n mirrors have worked for the moment, win nothing ... cue bedlam
Glazer's 'Red Football' holding company loses £137m in its first year.
Financial Times:
The Glazer family's takeover of Manchester United resulted in a pre-tax loss of £137.7m in the club's holding company, figures filed at Companies House reveal.
The accounts for Red Football, set up by Malcolm Glazer for the deal, also show for the first time that the actual amount paid by the Glazers was £809.1m.
According to the accounts, after a net asset valuation of £286.8m, the goodwill generated from the deal comes to £522.4m, depreciating by £39.2m a year over 15 years.
Interest payments on debt of £598m totalled about £85.2m in the 14 months between May 1 2005 and June 30 2006, divided between £27.2m from cash flow and £57.9m in high-yielding payment-in-kind notes.
The accounts are the first declaration by the Glazer family, owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL team, of the scale of the club's indebtedness needed to secure the takeover.
The family waged a protracted battle with the board before securing the takeover. However, the club's success on the pitch - it leads the Premier League and is in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the FA Cup - has eased pressure.
Manchester United reported in January that the club had made a £31m profit in the 12 months to June 30, with earnings at £46.3m. Red Football's earnings were £10m lower, the result of costs borne in the last two months of the accounting period.
People connected to the Glazer family said the accounting losses were expected and reflected the cost of financing the old capital structure of the club, the depre- ciation of goodwill and exceptional one-off takeover costs.

The season has seen Celtic plagued by injuries and having to endure under-performances from seasoned professionals, add to that a complete dearth of penalties which hasn’t helped us ease towards a win, or gain a feel good factor.
The selling of Petrov and Maloney didn’t actually help the team.
Unfortunately things haven’t been easy with the league being won by Christmas. It’s not easy getting motivated at the weekend when you’re miles ahead, and the officials seem to present us with a greater threat from winning than any football club.
Looking forwards to some better displays from the team, even if it’s just to enjoy visiting CQN.

I only caught glimpses of the match on tv yesterday, whilst i was in a clients house.
My best mate ,said that Riordan performed poorly and that he could not argue with his substitution.
I have been disappointed in Graveson more than any of our signings because ,i had such high hopes for him.
This is one of the reason's why i question Mr Strachan.
He said when he signed him that he was not a holding player.Yet he wants him to play a dual holding role.
Why sign him then?
The same goes for JJ and PH ,they are not being used to the best of their abilities.
As for Doumbe, the mind just boggles.
What i do think Mr Strachan is getting correct,is not bending to the crowd's frustration.
He is correct to live or die by his own decisions. That i like.

I was back in La lanterna a couple of weeks ago.
This was my third visit since you recommended it.
Having thoroughly enjoyed it on the previous two occassions we were very disappointed this time.
My steak was overcooked and my wifes pepper sauce tasted like brandy sauce.
I gave polite feedback at the time and they knocked £10 of the bill.
We will go back, because they genuinely cared.

Happy to be in the final, no matter the performance.
Like many I was there supporting the team, recognising the struggle they were having, especially in the second half and hoping that my positive thoughts and shouts would be heard. Lee Naylor certainly appreciated the adulation as he left, in his case, literally the field of conflict. As many have said before - he consistently gets hammered with very little protection, if any from the ref. I really like his commitment and effort.
Watched the Blackburn, Chelsea match today and wondered what the reaction from some of the Celtic support would have been to WGS asking them to increase their support of the team - as Sparky did before extra time took place
My point, not a new one I know is that we should get behind the team, when they are in action - I genuinely believe they would play better. I know that if I am appreciated at my work I want to try harder. I imagine our players are not that different.

First I'd like to re-state your question in regards Lee Naylor
----why does this player come in for more physical abuse than any other in Scotland from his fellow pros? anybody any ideas?
Also what has Neil Lennon done to the St Johnston fans, from his very first touch they booed him, mibees it is his hair colour which upsets everyone.
I disagree with your view on the play where Naylor and Lennon were closing down Peter Mcdonald at the corner flag, my view was that Lennon came from behind McDonald and by bundling him forward it knocked Naylor over and allowed McDonald to walk into the penalty area

My problem with Gravesen is that I don't know what his job is.
Is that Gordon Strachan's fault becasue he doesn't tell him? Or isd it Thomas Gravesen's fault because he doesn't listen?
And if it's the latter, what is Gordon to do? Not play him?
It's clear to all of us. The midfield is the problem. Well, it always is. Let's see what happens in the summer.
We ARE in agreement on your last paragraph. Let's hope the verdict is objective.
-
Kojo
I've only watched the first half so far.
Good game, but not the quality I ewxpect from this team.
And I haven't seen Thomas G's cameo. But we need more than ten minutes. I hope he can deliver.
-
chic
I could be totally wrong but I think that Lee likes to partake in some banter with the opposition during the match.
It's just a guess but Ivan Sproule, Alan Hutton and numerous others that have risen to his bait may just confirm my suspicions.
I like his style and the fact that he regularly gives back what he gets. We could do with a couple more like him!
-
Is there any other team quite like us for being so negative whilst being so successful?
I agree recent performances have been very poor, but, as I don't need to remind anyone, we are on the verge of a double season, on the back of 2 trophies last year.
Messrs Burns, Barnes, Macari, Brady would have been desperate to be even close to our current position. As would our great rivals.
Chelsae are often criticised for not being aesthetically pleasing to watch. But they could win 4 trophies this year, with CL success a real possibility.
WGS has a big close season ahead of him though, I don't deny that. But for all those wanting rid of him, just ask this - what potential manager worth their salt would come to a club that sacks a league winning manager....would you go to a job on the understanding that even if you were fantastically successful, you'd get the bullet?
-
Martin, sorry to have to disagree with Kojo but you need to revert to your original self.

Just got back from the match I have to say it was a slight improvment on last weeks match.
Mabey the change of surroundings was what was needed even the crowd were slightly more enthusiastic.
We need to get past Killie next week. I dont care whether its limping, hobbling or crawling.
With the pressure off it will be time use some of the younger lads (fitter Faster etc.). This will have to give the team the spring clean that it needs.
-
Chic
I assumed he must have stole a tractor or something because surely bigotry is just an old firm problem that doesn't affect the rest of Scotland.
After all, he gets blamed for everything else. Any time Celtic play bad, it's one man's fault.
There's no debate, this season should be his last as I don't want my memories of this Celtic great tarnished. He will be missed as he has been on any occassion he has been absent. Everything comes through him and his will be an important position to address. Someone earlier said he was finished, I think his performance in Milan sugggested otherwise.
He has never let us down and anyone who hasn't appreciated what he does and is for us needs a lesson on how the game is played. It's funny how guys such as Naka with real quality recognise his talents but many of our own support seem to thrive on tearing him apart.
Lets hope he signs off with a double.

Delighted to be in the final - there is always something special about cup final day and I am always utterly depressed when we are not there.
Performance was awful yet again.
Two things were proven.
1) GS has something against Riordan - because from where I was watching he was one of the better players - Naka was due for the hook. Even if we kept Riordan on the pitch and moved him left and McGeady right it would have been the more sensible decision. The crowd's instinct was spot on.
2) Graveson is being left out for reasons other than football. He was head and shoulders above everyone else in midfield.

My dear old friend, Hugh...
Yeah ...ah know... but Hugh is so stolid and common sensical....
When you get round to watching the brief appearance of Tommy... you will see him actually performing an UNCOMMON Ploy... which is VERY VERY CONSPICUOUS for the well known reason.....
The.... "OLD, RUN TO YOUR OPPONENTS BYLINE,dragging at least TWO OPPONENTS in yer wake.......
And then, advance up the Byline... until ye kin see the imperfections on yer rivals goal-post....finally... send a hard low cross into the oppositions SIX YARD LINE! "
I usually watch the re-runs of the Celtic games, either alone or maybe with one or two companions, who, like myself... are not well schooled in all of the subtle nuances..(whit?....ed)(So am telling the truth......for a change... so, so what?)of the Beautiful Game.
However, this time round, I had the good fortune to view yesterday's game, in the company of an old Ex- Celt.
From his observations and explanations of what was taking place during the Contest,I learned that I was aware of mebbe Half of One Per Cent, of what was really taking place on the field of play!
My friend had mentioned the above Effective Ploy, in observing that Aiden's style was most suited to it's use.
However, Aiden deigned to cut into to the crowded penalty area, far too soon....and therefore ,would either be crowded out or his final pass would be unable to thread its way through the mass of bodies.
Now, no sooner had my friend finished his explanation of this most effective and dangerous tactic, when.....the bold and brash Tommy ,proceeded to give me a demonstrat
