WhiteDogHunch :- You may well be right lol, but we have to keep close set eyes out the gene pool somehow, you know what they say, the famaily that lays together stays together :-)
-
On this day 6 years ago we beat Rangers 3-0 at Ibrox, can still remember rolling about the living room carpet wae ma bhoy, celebrating that Lubo inspired gubbing.

you're obviously talking about those residents of Harthill who hang about on 3 legged stools, wearing red lumberjack shirts and playing their banjos...........
when they're not chasing little piggies or supporting Rangers.......

I've just noticed it's already linked at the top of the page, once again lazy blogging on my part

I wonder if any of the site historians could help me, what is the most players with the same surname to play together in the same Celtic team, and have any sets of brothers played in the same team together? If anyone can help then thanks in advance.
*Tom and Willie Maley;
Jimmy and Willie McStay;
Hugh and Frank O'Donnell;
Paul and Willie McStay, Raymond never played for the 1st team.
Ian and Bobby Young were at the club together in the early 60's although I'm unsure if Bobby ever played in the 1st team.
-
TontineTim :- Thanks for that answer, I hadn't realised there were so many. This may sound an obvious question to you but are the two sets of McStay's related?
-
1 Boruc Artur
3 Naylor Lee
10 Vennegoor of Hesselink Jan
11 Hartley Paul
17 Pressley Steven
18 Lennon Neil
20 Jarosik Jiri
24 Perrier-Doumbe Jean-Joel
25 Nakamura Shunsuke
44 McManus Stephen
46 McGeady Aiden
Couple of selection surprises today...

Jimmy McStay was the (great) uncle of the maestro.

Looks like a champion day at paradise
-
1st shot from Naka saved by Gordon
-
Good morning from the Pacific North-West gentlemen, where it would seem that summer is actually starting to arrive.
Another strange line up from the Wee Man (can't accuse WGS of being boring anyway!)
Hi Edward, welcome to the party :)
Have a CHAMPION day all.
Oregonbhoy
-
We insist on playing the long throw to the front post. Has it ever paid any dividends? Or in fact, have we ever won the ball?
-
Lubo in the stand today. Bhoys passing the ball well so far
-
Shots from Jiri and then Aiden saved
-
I'm particularly interested in how Jarosik and Doumbe play today (I expect everyone else to play as/usual)so would appreciate opinions on these two.
Oregonbhoy
Relying on CQN as usual.
-
half chance for Aiden deflected over for corner
-
Mick heads over from 3 yds - was easier to score
-
There is a nice fluidity about Celtic today, but I can't make my mind up if it's because the pressure is off and I don't feel the tension of the last weeks. Jiri seems to be enjoying himself so far though...
-
Hartley held back in box - good shout for penalty - not given
-
Joe Doumbe settling nicely
-
40yd shot from Jiri - saved.
We're struggling to get anything going up front. Solid in defence and midfield but every time the ball is played forward it gets picked up by a Hearts player
Boruc hasn't had a save to make yet
-
Good effort from Aiden - inches wide. JVoH did well to set up the chance
-
Another chance for Aiden - needs to finish better
-
Good first half from Doumbe and Jarosik in particular.
-
If ever a game needed a goal !
Give us a goal, Celtic, and less of the strolling.
-
I suppose you could describe it as a "nice" game, in a kind of end of season, we've won the league, party day, sort of way.
Good debut for Doumbe. He looks strong and can play a good forward ball.
Jiri playing well in an involved deeper midfield role. Aiden trying hard and obviously encouraged to shoot on sight.
For a bit more drive, Gordon may consider TG for Hartley, who hasn't even got to the pace of a slow game.
The crowd in good, tolerant form, thank goodness. we will probably try and step it up in the second half.
-
HT Celtic 0-0 Hearts
Decent performance. Our chances have mostly been shots from the edge of the box. Little creativity shown when moving forward.
Doumbe has done ok. Jiri also playing well. Aiden involved in most of the play.
The game needs a goal.
-
FK - same position as last weeks goal....
-
Just wide - Naka went for the near post this time
-
Chance for Hartley from a Naylor cross - wide
-
Goal for Hearts - their first effort on goal. Three defenders round the scorer but no decent challenge
-
0-2 - Good free kick into top corner
-
1-2 - Pressley. Cross from Naka and free header in six yard box
-
WGS going to make a change - not sure who yetr
-
Looks like it's KM to come on. Boruc makes his first save of the game
-
Chance for Doumbe - saved
-
Penalty to Hearts - clumsy challenge by Pressley
-
You would have to go a long long way to see a softer pen than that.
-
mn thanks for the updates.
yet again let down by ch67
-
goal - 1-3. Artur went the right way but dived under the shot
-
I think WGS has just been sent off
-
KM on for Jiri
-
Ref is determined to make himself the story today. He's a joke quite frankly
-
WGS got sent off for something he said to the Hearts players. Stuart Dougal is an idiot
-
Lively second half - told you the game needed a goal at HT :)
-
Chance for Lennon - fluffed his shot
-
Pressley shot headed off line - should have scored
-
Pressley has another shot - good save - corner
-
TG on for Lennon
Riordan on for Aiden
-
TG for AM, DR for NL. This could nd up - 12-8
-
Ur we sacking the manager yet?
-
Pressley now playing up front
-
We look more positive with TG on - too late though.
-
How come everybody is still there?
Oh that's right,there is a big party.
Mon the bhoys,mon the crowd.
Let everybody know we are enjoying this.
-
FT 1-3
We got what we deserved - nothing. This has been coming for a few weeks. Hearts were not that great but they had enough to beat us.
Still - we are the champions. Roll on the Cup Final and next season. We need to improve.
Presentation to continue. If you log on to C67, they are doing a free broadcast of the celebrations.
-
mn thanks.
I'm off.
I'll watch the trophy presentation tonight.
I'll be in the twin cities next week. Will be nice to be there without the snow :-)
-
Don't mean to rile you people who can't get the signal.
But I have never received it so good since we got the new site.
Sorry to knock you, but, that is the way I have found it.
-
Never seen the whole game.
How was Msr Doumbe?
-
Was he as good as our player of the year,Lee naylor?
-
Isn't that a bigoted song that they are playing on the tannoy?
-
Kano - I rarely get problems with the C67 coverage. I've noticed the picture flickers a lot since they changed to the new service. Can't complain though - it's great for overseas tims.
-
Doumbe played ok. Lubo getting a great reception
-
We really are complete rubbish, and I've been saying it since December. Winnning the league tries to hide the fact, but if you've even a quarter of a brain you'll be able to see past that misleading fact. We have a crucial Champions League qualifier to play in little over 3 months time. We have little chance of winning it.
A performance/result like this might have been acceptable had we been firing on all cylinders for the last several weeks and taken our foot off the pedal for a well earned rest, but it's yet another in a very long sequence of deplorable peformances showing us up for what we are - the best of a really bad bunch, and I'm not even sure of that anymore.
-
Noo that is why we are Celtic supporters.
cannae beat it.
-
Bryce,
Its party day. Away'n bile yer heid!
-
Cheers Bryce.
Great party piece.
-
Take back my previous snipe at the crowd.
Well done the crowd.
-
Thankfully the league is won and changes can be made for next season.
I thought Doumbe did very well for a debut.
Dougal is an idiot ......no change there
Bryce...who poked a stick down your hole....
Hail Hail to the Champions
-
Sitting here in the sunshine bathed Salford, happy and angry at the same time. The Celtic website promised that you could watch the lifting of the trophy. No me.
According to my mate, Dougal, whom my mate used to rate, had an awful game. He allowed umpteen over the ball challenges by Hearts players in the first 15 minutes and denied us another stonewaller in the first half before giving them the softest penalty he's ever seen. He doesn't know why it was given. Well, how often has that happened?
He says Lubo was given a magnificent reception. He has given us a lot of wonderful memories.
-
Kano, I take no pleasure.
I realise as well as you that we can not perform as worldbeaters every week. I can accept that from time to time we will not play well. I start to worry, however, (as should you) when the poor performances are the norm and the decent performances are the exception. That has been the case for several months.
I am as pleased as you about winning the league this year, but unlike you, I (in my opinion) are far more concerned with our prospects for next season and beyond, and (in my opinion) based on the last half-season or so they don't look good.
We face a huge 3rd round Champions League qualifier in the near future - are you confident we're going to win it?
-
Celtic fans never cease to amaze me. We lose a meaningless end of season fixture, we do not even know what the team will be next year, but hey, we are worried about the champions league qualifier. Me, I will celebrate being champions and let Mr Strachan worry about next season. Bring on the Pars on 26 May.
-
Bryce,
its PARTY DAY. If you can't join in today. Go to bed and come back to the blog tomorrow. In the meantime, away'n bile yeir heid.
-
firmly in the bryce camp
( who ever he is)
yeh that guy that tells the truth about the team
and takes pelters.
if you are being objective and put celebrations to the side Where is the Celtic team that built the lead, to win the league?
Celtic's present team is very very poor and have been for weeks. they proved it in a big big way today.
Sure enjoy your party wherever you are but in the morning wake up and smell the coffee this was not
Celtic today or last week or the week before etc
hail hail
-
guys,
I think the point is that all views will still be valid on Monday or Tuesday etc whereas this is title celebration day.
Stand up for the champions.
I for one had a tear in my eye at Walk on.
Glasgow Celtic.
Just two words?
Hail Hail
Another two?
No chance.
God Bless all here at the park and abroad.

-
Bryce, Hail Hail,
today may be a day for smelling coffee. Today away'n bile yer heids.
-
pauldominic - if you want to celebrate a 3-1 defeat at home on the tail of several months' poor performances/results then go ahead. I have bigger aspirations than that for my club.
-
of course I meant tomorrow may be a day for smelling the coffee....
Hee aw, Hee aw, he always calls me donkey!
-
Not gonna spoil the day, shall give Strachan another year before I decide.
Peter Lawwell gets my player of the year. First time in my Celtic supporting career I have been happier with the boards performance than the teams!
The team at present is extremely poor. Strachan has a big task ahead. I just have a feeling we missed a trick letting Roy the Bhoy leave CP.
The job he has done at Sunderland is amazing and living in the NE of England I have no doubt of his ability.
Would he come if offered?..... I doubt it now, he is very loyal and I expect him to stay. Untill Fergie goes at least.
Thought the celebrations were tame. We need some big personalities to knit this team together..
Not Lennons biggest fhan but am surprissed at how sad i feel about him leaving. Time waits for no man.
I have a feeling in my stomach that GS is not the long term answer. Nothing against him personally but dont want to waste the new kitty. Idont see him being around quite s oon. Anyone else feel the same?
-
Bryce Curdy,
At the turn of the year I criticised your posts because I thought you were being unduly negative about the team.
In the time since I have come to agree with you. Please accept my apologies.
Thank goodness the league is won, because we seem to lack any spark or guile to get results between now and the end of the season. Major, major, surgery required before next year's CL.
However, our finances are in good shape, hopefully we will have the spending power to overhaul this team.
-
Bryce,
Never celebrate a defeat. Never will. I will celebrate winning the league, no matter how won ( boy did I party at Love Street all those years ago courtesy of Albert Craig, even although it was the poorest winning points total in the modern era, indicitave of how we played throughout the year ).
Party today, come back and build tomorrow, and if you can't, away'n bile yer heid!
-
Another home defeat.
Another biased, bitter, myopic performance from the Neil Lennon hater that is Stuart Dougall.
This cheating disgrace should NEVER be allowed near a Celtic match ever again.
Neutral ?-
he couldn't even spell the word.
-
ItaliaBhoy - while it's nice you're agreeing with me now, I hope we're both wrong.
Having more money to spend is only an advantage if we spend it well. Rangers outspent us in 2000-01 but we all know what happened.
-
pauldominic-my heid's in the pan!

I have kind-of the opposite feeling.
I think, having knocked off the Champions League group stage for the first time in the club's history, he will now be the manager for some time to come. And I'm pretty happy with that, I have to say.
However, I have a suspicion that we may not see the amount of spending that we would be hoping for. I want to see him given a proper warchest to mount a European challenge, and from various sources I'm getting the impression that this may not be the case. Could be spin of course, we shall see...
-
Bryce,
I don't mean to be narky. I'm sorry for seeming like it. I'm not critical of what you said just the timing.
Stand up for the Champions.
Hail, Hail the Champions.
Walk On with the Champions.
Isn't it good to be THE Champions.

Just back from the game very muted celebrations guess we were deflated with yet another rank rotten performance from a very poor team.
I am celebrating the league win as despite being the best of a bad bunch we are over the piece the most consistent team in scotland.
We will build for next year and i hope strachans comments pre match on the bbc are a wind up we need at least eight players to make a good team.
Pressley
Hartley
Jarosik
Tommy G (sadly)
Lennon
Miller
Beatie
Zuraski
will have to be replaced. Some will bring in decent money this must be spent wisley
The rest of scottish football can't be this rank for ever.
Whilst i hate hearts they did deserve to win today as they out fought and out thought a very very poor celtic team.
-
I think you are wrong again Gweedorebhoy-
Celtic were the superior team in the 1st half-
Gordon had to make 6 saves while Hearts managed only one shot on target-
if Brother Dougal hadn't stepped in
to carry on his own personal vindictive crusade against Celtic-
it may well have been a different outcome.
-
Once it was smell the glove.
Now it's smell the coffee.
I am not fooled.
-
Disappointing result but it meant nothing!
That was my last home game of the season (a wedding 12th May)so a win would have been nice.:-(
The team has to be prepared for the cup final. It`s up to our manager, I`m sure he`ll have the team ready.
To keep it in perspective, two years ago the team lost to Hibs 3-1 in the 35th match. Now that was a sore one!
-
Noel90
Brother Dougal was a disgrace. It was never a penalty .
Howevva!
They still scored another two goal's.
Some posters on here ,were saying that we should not post critical comments ,whilst we had important matches still to win.
I agreed.
Now some are saying the time isn't right to post, because we have just won the league.
This Celtic side is in need of major upgrading to qualify for the Champions League.
I predicted Artmedia.I was correct.
I predicted abject failure in this seasons group stages.I was very very wrong.
If this current Celtic side (minus Neil Lennon) has to play a decent side in a CL qualifier ,then we will not qualify.
Mr Strachan has to get his signing's correct in the summer.
Right now i would settle for a draw at Ibrox.
I somehow think that a win will be way beyond us.
-
noel
Hey game of two halfs. We were crap in both of them.
Sadly hearts were only crap in one.
I detest hearts mostly because of the bnp but wake up call required in no way did we outplay hearts today and yes it was never a penalty but without it hearts would still have humped us.
Yes it was a dead rubber as they say but this has been happening for weeks
We are frankly not a very good team.
The best team in scotland yes but a team with flaws, thank god its dunfermiline for the cup as we would not beat hibs and before i get happy clapped to death no happy clapper is getting their hands on my ticket.
-
Tinytim-
when you are 2-1 down and coming back into the game-
what is going to stop you in your tracks ?
A very soft penalty that GrandWizard Dougal couldn't wait to award.
We played some great football in the first half.
Sometimes playing against a half decent team and the referee becomes a bit too much.
-
Hearts had something to play for, we didn't, and it showed.
Kilmarnock against Aberdeen looked nothing like the Kilmarnock we faced to win when it mattered.
It's tough at the tail end of a long season, even when you have got everything to play for.
PSV are champions in the Netherlands, when Ajax and AZ Alkmaar both looked to have a considerable advantage going into today's games. AZ and Ajax blew it. AZ conceded a penalty and a man early in the game, but are a quality team and must be disappointed they didn't come back against Excelsior, especially when they too got a man sent off.
Werder Bremen took a hiding against Espanyol in the UEFA Cup semi final on Thursday, but had everything to play for against Arminia Bielefeld this afternoon. A win would have taken Werder top with three games to go. They blew it, they conceded a late goal to lose 3-2. They, too, are a quality team.
That's football. We won enough games that mattered. To complain now about losing games that don't matter is poor form.
-
Gweedorebhoy-
I'm going to summarise your match reports for the last 2 seasons.
Crap.
Your favourite description of the team you love.
You sure you weren't watching Derby in the 1st half......
-
Sunderland and Birmingham both promoted to The Premiership.
Billy Davis' Derby left to take their chances in the play-offs.
Could it be THREE seasons on the trot that Davis' team falls at the final hurdle ?
Hope so.
-
Today Celtic supporters all over the world should be rejoicing in the aftermath of another league championship presentation. Why are many of us, myself included, not satisfied?
It is difficult to get a real sense of the occasion watching on C67. The crowd always sound quiet maybe due to the C67 commentary position. But, it seemed a very muted celebration at the end. Sure, the result today did not help but there is a deeper problem eloquently summed up by Bryce Curdy when he said "we are complete rubbish". I'm not sure I would go that far but I understand the sentiment.
As a business, the football club is in great shape. Not sure it could be any better. Unfortunately, the footballing side of the business, the one reason every single one of us supports the team, has suffered in the last two seasons. Anyone can point to our successes to dispel this comment but why is it then that we are not satisfied? It comes down to quality. Celtic supporters have been raised to expect a quality product on the field - we are not getting that. What we are getting served up is just enough quality to stay ahead of the domestic competition. For me, that is not enough.
I am bored watching this week in week out. When was the last season when we didn't manage an average of two goals per game? I want to see us win by 3, 4 or 5 goals against other SPL teams. There is no flair and no excitement (Naka's free-kick's excluded) in this team.
It is time for a change. I don't know if WGS has what it takes. He has succeeded in what was asked of him by the Board, but can he kick-on now, use the pot of money available to him to bring in quality players, sell at least 6 of the current 1st team squad and get what's left to give us what we want next season? I hope so - he will have my support.
-
This year instead of Stan Petrov, we have a slew of supporters poo-pooing our title defence.
Job done.
Are we now all blaming PLG?
Is there no room for that the gap was instigated and maintained by us winning games as opposed to losing them.
I truly wonder where you find your pleasures. Lubo hugged by Neil Lennon before he lifts the trophy?
Take a wee minute and think about it folks...
Then crack a can and sit back and toast the champions.
U.

Not posted for a long, long time and when I did it was under a different account before all this Google malarkey moved the goal posts.
Anyway, just posting to register my disgust at the behaviour of certain Celtic fans in a well known Celtic pub in Bellshill when the team were collecting the trophy. Cheers for all who lifted the trophy except Strachan.
These people need a right boot up the jacksie. I should have been celebrating, instead, I find myself cursing the idiocy of certain members of the 'Celtic family'. Some people need to realise that we have achieved more under Strachan than we ever did under O'Neill. No matter what the amateur hagiographers may think.
A truly disappointed Celt.
-
Couldn't get to the game today...Watching on Setanta there.
Been in Celtic Park before on the day when we've collected the trophy the and lost the game..It's a strange feeling. A mixture of anger and pride with the pride rightly taking over.
There has been a lot of criticism of the Celtic fans on here recently. Booing the manager. Too quiet, Srachan isn't Celtic minded and that's why we don't love him...blah blah blah.
Today the 60,000 fans were the league winners.Even when we lost.
To HEARTS, at Celtic Park, which hurts more than root canal treatment.
The Celtic fans did their best to make it something special though. You can hand out all the cardboard trophies you like but without us it would be nothing...We ARE Celtic. We are the difference.
Despite the Glasgow Herald. Despite the Daily Record. Despite the best endeavours of The Evening Times, The Scotsman, Chic Young, Gordon Smith, Bill Leckie, BFDJ, et all...
ONE TENTH of the population of Glasgow were there today to support our team
You can't hire sixty thousand extras to sing You'll Never Walk Alone...and pay over twenty five quid for the privilege...
This club would nothing without us. Today showed that..and not for the first time...Did anyone acknowledge the fans today?...I hope so...
The Scottish press love to rubbish us. Any tiny flaw is put under the microscope.Although we lost today we still showed what we are. The real force beind Celtic Football Club
Hail Hail
Championeesandlovingit...

WELL SAID !
STAND UP FOR OUR CHAMPIONS !
-
Watertower[?]
You have my sympathy.
These are the people who give the press ammunition to label The Celtic Support.
-
hail hail stand up for the champs ...and yes we are in great shape as a business
but gentlemen we have not kicked a ba' for months we are rank rotten. watching this week in and week out is turgid. ok you can slate me for being a moany faced so and so 'cause after all we've won back to back titles last 16 etc etc.but its just plain rubbish. on the pitch we play like a team of strangers.
heres hoping for a different kind vibe next season maybe in the excitment department
anyway i'll toast the celts.
-
-
Messi is turning in another McGeadyesque performance in the game against Levante.
-
Jamie,
You say you'll wait another year before judging "Strachan". What does he have to do next season to meet with your approval? If he has us playing sparkling football but we just miss out on the league to Rangers will that be OK?
FWIW I thought we played OK going forward today but were far too slack at the back during that short period when Hearts put the pressure on. I haven't seen any TV pictures yet but from my seat in the Lisbon Lions lower I thought their penalty looked a decent shout - put it this way, if it had happened up the other end I would have been screaming for it.
-
We have to draw a line under this season, with the exception of the Cup Final.
No team has ever, in my recollection, performed at their best after the title has been won.
Therefore ,we can all save ourselves the angst of reguritating the type of posts that have been common this season.
No-one is deluded into thinking that we have been watching a great Celtic team, but what we have been watching is a resilient one.
We did lose big game players, like Keane, Hartson Petrov and even Maloney this season and their attitude and experience have been difficult to replace, never mind their talents.
If we can accept that a transitionery team took the title with a comfortable margin, can we not wait till we see what the close season additions will do for us, rather than plunge into the depths of despair because the team are looking out the sun block.
We will improve.
