Hoping for a Rangers result on Saturday

Celtic Park is the proper place to win the league, something not achieved during our nine-in-a-row years. I remember the stress we experienced in April 2001 against Dundee, despite being miles ahead in the leauge. A win meant the league could be won at home in the next game against St Mirren, anything less and it would have been won away from home, with few of us present.

After Johan Mjallby’s late winner, Martin O’Neill wondered why the crowd displayed so much agitation; he perhaps did not appreciate how important it is for fans to be there in person when the deed is done. Players and management will be there irrespective of the venue, but when it is won away from home, only a small percentage of fans get to join the party.

Unfortunately I will not be at Rugby Park on Sunday, but watching Celtic win the league on television would be hugely preferable to hearing the championship was won as a result of Rangers losing to Hearts the previous day.

There is something not right about it. You could be out shopping, mowing the lawn, or at work, when you hear Celtic have won the league.

For the first and perhaps last time ever, a Rangers loss is not what I am looking for on Saturday. The fans and players deserve their moment.

    I'd prefer Rangers 1 Hearts 0 and Kilmarnock 1 Celtic 1 (Riordan).

Then we could rub it in both ways at home on the 29th with a 3-0 win (Riordan hat-trick from 3 JVoH assists!) over Mad Vlad's lot. And 60,000 Bhoys & Ghirls could join the party and celebrate in style.

    Paul,

that maybe all true, but I’d still put up with the Fod losing, for two reasons.

    1. I like it when they lose.
    2. Just maybe they won’t make it to the coveted 2nd spot.

Seems a little slow today, but I guess that could be the time difference and everyone is busy at work. Anyway, how about this? What's your favourite game you've seen involving Celtic when they did not win? Mine is 2-2 against Ajax in the European Cup. 1982 I think. Cruyff, Olsen, Lerby were magnificent for Ajax, but Archie Macpherson summed it up for me when he said it was a game worthy of the final itself. Any others?

I want the league done and dusted as soon as poss and if that means that we can win it on saturday with the right result then that will do me.

Any chance that the huns could lose out on the second place Champions League spot should not be sniffed at, also the way that we are playing just now means that a result against Uncle Jim's mob is by no means certain.

I remember the Dundee game well. Mjallby's winner was celebrated like a European goal.

I remember in actual fact the planning for the party to be held after the St Mirren game going even further back to the Motherwell game the previous midweek and Lubo scored a late free kick against "The Bigot". Another goal celebrated exuberantly.

To be honest I'd rather Rangers lost and Kilmarnock was a day long party than etching out a nervy one-niller when nothing much happens in the stands til the final whistle, but then again 4 up at half time with Rangers having won the previous day would be better still.

I don't want to win it at Celtic Park though, the circumstances for that to happen would see a mineshafters rally of bigger proportions than the title party!

I had a bottle of bubbly with me on Easter Sunday when we rolled the eggs down the hill, just in case the news came through from Love Street. Whenever, wherever we win the league I'll be celebrating it properly.

Celtic. Champions 2007. Sounds fantastic to me.

Don't Hearts need to win to have a change of clinching 3rd spot and a Uefa Cup spot ? (Unless they want to qualify via the InterToto)

As Celtic are in the Final of the Scottish Cup that means, I think, that whoever wins the other semi-final will get the other UC spot.

    Hearts to beat Rangers.

Aberdeen to narrow the gap and challenge them for the Champions League place.

And hopefully Hibs to beat Dunfermline in the other Semi-Final to try and put the strongest teams into Europe from Scotland and increase our Co-Efficent points for years to come.

    Official site press release:

    Newsroom staff
Following on from our news story earlier in the week, we can confirm that the additional allocation of tickets from Kilmarnock will go on sale on Thursday at 9:30am.

We must stress however that there will no longer be any sales from the Ticket Office counter, please do not attend the park expecting a sale as this will not go ahead.

Having considered operational issues such as safety, queuing, delays and car parking along with the obvious discomfort for supporters having to wait with basic facilities available we have decided that given the number of tickets available all tickets will be sold via telephone by Ticket Office staff.

Sales conditions remain the same, season ticket holders only, 1 ticket per membership, max 2 tickets per caller. We would request that tickets be collected from the Ticket Office by 5pm on Thursday or Friday, alternatively if tickets are to be posted, they will only be sent by priority service and at the risk of the recipient.

Tickets will not be released from the Ticket Office without a valid booking reference which will be given at the time of sale, please ensure you are given your booking reference along with the operators name.

Sales will commence at 9:30am call 0871 226 1888 and follow the directions. This is the only number tickets will be available from, please do not call any other numbers at the Stadium as they will not be able to transfer you on to the booking line.

My new best friend is a taxi driver called Estevão. He took me in his Fiat Panda on a one-hour drive yesterday morning.

I'm getting by with Spanish most of the time, but as BoltonBhoy will testify, I am the product (as is he) of an education that has left us with the Castillian equivalent of a cut-glass BBC accent. Estevão wasn't used to that from his few dealings with Argentinians and Uruguayans.

As we all know, though, football is a universal language anyway, so there was no problem.

He was a big Gremio man, but only vaguely remembered Rafael Scheidt having gone to Scotland, and he didn't know Juninho Paulista had played for us for a season either.

I was asking about promising young Brazilian guys that haven't yet come to Europe's attention. He shrugged and suggested Gremio striker Lucas could make his mark. But then he said Milan and Barcelona have already got it sewn up down here. Each has a feeder club from which they cream off the talent.

He told me about a player called Dener who "really was the new Pele", but who died in a car crash in 1994. In fact, today is the anniversary of his death.

It made me wonder how many fantastic talents fail to make it.

I think it was on Etims that they reported Alessandro del Piero shooting an ad for Nike or somebody in Glasgow. When the great man arrived, one of the local onlookers, the opposite of stage-struck, called out: "You're keech, by the way, compared to wee Tam Bennett before he hit the junk."

To digress: In today's Evening Times, Alan Davidson enlightens us that he's heard a "whisper" that it's 50/50 within the media between GS and Wattie for sportswriters manager of the year.

This is the first time in a good few weeks that I've laughed out loud at something I've read.

Whilst recognising the fact that GS has achieved much more, he admits that the media do not like the way GS treats them in interviews etc - especially compared to good old "pillar-of-the-establishment-even-though-I've-walked-out-on-my-country" Waattie".

Now I'm no fan of GS's interviewing techniques, but this is unreal!

I dont know you personally but i too find myself in Edinburgh this weekend (via dundee) and will be watching the game in the International Bar there. Supposed to be serious craic for the celtic games. And,like yourself, il be hangin' from the previous day's session! Il be in my "Gordfather" tshirt coutesy of Etims so say hello (if i havent been beaten to a pulp at that stage by fellow celtic fans for wearing it!)

Finally,my best mate's (huge Celtic fan) hatred of Strachan has gotten so bad he insists that the reason that Tommy G has been so poor for us this season is all down to Strachan, and that Strachan shuld be picking him and claims, and i quote "Tommy G changed the game for us when he came on against St Johnstone". Mother of God,what can you say to that?

    Suggestions welcome....

I don't read anything by Allan Davidson these days. I thought it was a wind-up when he won sportswriter of the year a few years back; he has to be one of the worst, and I don't mean in the tendentiousness stakes.

The guy is a weak writer. He never uses one metaphor when a mix of four will do.

Nevertheless, his sentiments, as reported by Tully57, reveal something significant. It's not about which manager has done the best job, it's about the one they like the best.

Oh well, at least Rangers can look forward to a generation of domination in something.

C1st-I know that the history books will put this down as another Championship winning season[and therefore better than a non-Championship season]but we might look back on it as'the Year of Winning Dreadfully'.

Anyways, the Missmeister has a lot of work to do before he gets included as one of the Bhoys of Summer.

Either I'm turning into a grumpy old Bhoy,or the football, like a lot of the good things in life, was definitely better..

We heard all about your personal strengths, that marathon in the Sahara.

    Gavil Guy,

Yes, the words "Kai Johansenn" still bring me out in a sweat and cursing Big Yogi, for some reason I can't remember now. Sad, eh.

*he was an earlier version of Betty Konterman and was getting the sugar lump at the end of that season until that blooter, justice was done when he missed the penalty 16 months later in the League Cup at Parkheid which sent them crashing out.

My memory of the Dunfermline replay is of a sunny evening for some obscure reason. Wasn't their goalie the man of the match?

*Eddie Connaghan a die hard Tim, after the first game on the way hame on the Vale of Leven CSC bus he was labeled a flash in the pan, some flash in the pan four days later and after that being capped for Scotland.

My memory of that final was Bertie Peacock injured earlier on in the year and being replaced by a young John Clark who scored the winner in a replay at Easter Road.

The night before the replay Jim Kennedy took ill with appendicitis and the unknown Willie O'Neill was his replacement, meanwhile club captain Bertie played for Northern Ireland in a friendly that same evening.

Similar situation occurred for the 1963 cup final, a very young wee Jinky had impressed in the first game and as Drogheda said this was truly Frank Haffey’s finest in a Celtic strip, on the Wednesday for the replay the Wee Mhan was dropped being replaced on the right wing by inside forward Booby Craig.

Both events were when Bob Kelly picked the side.

As for the much maligned Crazy Horse, although he was the fall guy for the 9-3 game it should be noted that he was actually 3rd choice goalie as both 1st and 2nd picks Lawrie Leslie and George Niven both called off and Frank was drafted in very late, ironically he had played in the same fixture at Hampden the previous year saving not one but two penalties from thunderbolt Bobby Charlton.

The team that on that 15 April, 1961 was:

Haffey, shearer and caldow; Mackay, McNeill and McCann; McLeod, Law, St. John, Quinn and Wilson. 2Tims, 3 huns and 3 from the steel city with hard man Dave Mackay and the legendary Dennis Law along with wee Johnny McLeod looked on paper not a bad side and although 3 down at the half they actually pulled it back to 3-2 before finally capitulating to the auld enemy. Bobby Robson scored the opening goal and star man for the Scots was a young Billy McNeil making his debut, as noted the full backs were shearer and caldow hence the saying that big Frank was crucified between two thieves.

THEY'RE A GLASGOW TEAM AND THEY REIGN SUPREME WHERE THE GAME OF FOOTBALLS KNOWN

I have finally worked out why Celtic have been unable to complete the winning of the SPL with a bit of panache.

The players are suffering from an identity crisis due to problems with their Blogging activity and having to constantly change ids to post thoughts on CQN.

For instance Kenny Miller has had to believe he’s really Harald Bratbaak or Darren Jackson depending on the Blogger release.

JVOH has variously been Chris Sutton, Tony Cascarino or an extra in Emergency Ward 10.

Since his signing from Hearts, Paul Hartley has had to change his sign on to Stan Petrov and therefore was forced to assume Stan’s “Missing in Action” persona.

Neil Lennon had his id deleted from the database on a Sunday afternoon backup and could only regain access when he signed up for Google as “Thomas the Tank Engine.”

Paul Telfer gave up completely when he couldn’t follow Noel’s instructions to sign up on Gmail and was last seen entering a No Passing Zone.

Sean Maloney’s departure was NOT for more money at Aston Villa, but prompted by a promise of sign on assistance from John Robertson.

Bobo is not suffering from a leg problem. He has carpal tunnel syndrome after spending hours on his keyboard trying to create a Blogger account.

‘GG waiting for news on others.

Can't agree Paul - a Hertz win on Saturday will put a bit of pressure on Rangers for the second spot AND take a bit of weight off us. The sooner this is over the better and the bhoys can take a well earned rest before the cup final.

Having just said that... Here in the NFL when teams qualify for the play-offs early they tend to rest their best players in the hope they come out firing when it really matters. Often, the spell without games makes them rusty and it takes a while to get back into it. Hope we don't fall into the same trap. We want the double!!!
