and a goal from open play as well, please - one in the last nine games unless i'm mistaken.

Ah,I get it,no Dennis Wise is not going.
He would be the very antithesis of an excellent CQNer.
Perhaps in a parallel universe messrs Wise,Goram,Ricksen,Bowyer and Barton are meeting to sing the praises of Celtic and knock lumps off each other but as Prof Hawking might put it'I should cocoa, mate!'
-
A comfy win for oor Lenny please
Hail Hail

My team for tomorrow wud be:
Holy Goalie
Doumbe Kennedy McManus Naylor
McGeady Lennon Bjarnsson Naka
JVOH Riordan

A clean sheet? Are you getting delusional Paul, after the title win?!
If WGS wants his team to rediscover the art of keeping clean sheets, then he should get them either to watch recordings of Dunfermline's recent matches, or tell the players to sleep on the sofa...
The SPL's bottom club (Dunfermline) can boast five clean sheets in their last six games, with Scott McDonald being the only player to score against them since March 17th!
Meanwhile, the CHAMPIONS have kept just one clean sheet in eleven games since the home leg against AC Milan back in February... and ironically that was against a Motherwell side contractually deprived of Scott McDonald!
So I suspect we'll have to rely on our strikers producing the goods for once in order to avoid notching up our second run of three-in-a-row defeats in the space of just ten games.
Don't hold your breath!
-
has anyone seen bjarnsoon in the reserves?
what about the striker that came with him
is sheridan not worth a try as well? he is scoring for fun in reserves i gather
-
We're rotten to watch, can't wait for the season to end - it's been finished since October, torture since January and pointless since February.
A misfunctioning, misfiring team has delivered the league, last 16 and have a shot at the double. Neil Lennon says his final farewell to a place that he has always graced and very rarely disgraced.
A positive atmosphere should be guaranteed then! Thanks for everything Neil, 2nd only to Larsson in the modern era.
Team for tomorrow:
Boruc
Doumbe
Naylor
McManus
Caldwell
Lennon
Hartley
McGeady
Nakamura
Riordan
JVofH
There's a cup to find form for so I'm not up for 'just give so and so a game' or anything similar. I want the best available players in each position on the park.
-
"experiments are carried out in 3's unfortunately. Just so you can get a full understanding of how wrong they actually are".
(Biology Lecturer, Stirling Uni)
How many games have we played with one upfront, 5 in midfield and the wrong personnel in defence?
-
Or tomorrow, under the temporary aegis of TB,we might see some proper attacking football;shots on target, goals from open play...
but probably not.
WGS will have picked the team and the tactics before he went under the knife.
It'll be more of the same old dross.
-
being a typical tim i'm prone to paranoia.
i'm wondering whether my present paranoia is well-placed or not.
-
A throwback to the Tommy Burns era...meaningless victories and players on the park who aren't good enough.
-
problem is thismancraig
that the so called better players have been rotten
doumbe played well against hearts and deserves a start
bjarnsson would give the midfield a bit of energy which clearly it is lacking, his form this season has been outstanding, hence the reason he has been on the bench recently
Kennedy should be playing anyway as he is one of the best if not the best center half we have, plus he needs games
and Riordan certainly deserves another shot
so I wouldnt class playing those 4 players as just giving so and so a game, I genuinely think they are the best players we have in that position, particularly Riordan, Kennedy and Doumbe. Bjarnsson is the form midfielder at the club just now
-
Paul,
I hope the birthday went/goes well.
Your article refers to Gordon's 'experiments'. I know he used that word, but I really don't think that is what we have been seeing.
Rather, we have gone to 4-5-1 simply to allow Neil Lennon to continue playing. Hartley has been played out of position in order to cover for Neil's lack of mobility. Left to their own devices, Neil and the 2 wingers are too far apart and the one remaining midfielder has to cover all that space, which is impossible.
I think in this, the manager has made a mistake. The rut has become something much more serious, and he has been unable to stem the tide. He has taken the feel-good factor of domination and handed it over as a feel-good factor of optimism to the other mob. As a fully paid up 'happy clapper', I'm have some real difficulty with this.
I would have found the last few months more acceptable had he really been experimenting, and had given some kids a run out.
I'd like to see Kennedy and O'Dea at the back tomorrow.
-
Antsman:
Bjarnsson (Midfielder)
Finboggasson (Striker)
have both been outstanding for the reserves this season
watched them against Kilmarnock (1-1 draw) and Teddy Bjarnsson kept doing all sorts of twists and turns. He looked outstanding once again
-
There may have been a lack of clean sheets recently but the defence is the least of our worries at the moment - not saying it's perfect.
The midfield & forwards have to carry the blame for our poor form.
-
lennondinho.
I thought Doumbe did enough against the jambo's to merit a start against the rankers.
In retrospect that might have been the correct idea as GC was gash.
For these reasons he should def start tomorrow.
I would consider that an experiment. Not Caldwell in that position again.
-
Paul,
As one who considers himself an upbeat kind of Celtic guy, I'm sorry to say that I don't think Celtic in their present manifestation are capable of delivering the kind of performance we crave.
There is no point trying to analyse why this is, as all sorts of theories have been expounded.
Bjarnasson is first team material and I feel that if he does not get the breakthrough soon, we will lose him. Watching him develop in the reserves via Celtic Tv, I believe he is in the Petrov mould. He is strong on the ball, can turn away from trouble and seeks to drive forward at every opportunity. He has also developed physically over this past year.
I'm not so sure about his countryman. He may have been overtaken by Sheridan in the pecking order and may wish to move on. Perhaps his injury has held him back and if we sign the boy from Dungannon, then that may indicate that his future is elsewhere. I believe he has stalled in renewing his contract.
Anyway, enjoy the night and I hope you are not disappointed when you put names to some of the faces you encounter. What is it they say about meeting your heroes.
-
Robbie Fowler out of contract. Would he be worth a punt?
-
GL2-For Carlisle?`¬)
No-would soak up too much of the available wage bill.I think there are better options with the prospect of a better return.I also think he is more of a finisher-I don't think we're at the cstage of saying'if only we had someone to finish off all the Sexy Football we're playing.
I've seen sexier fish suppers than some of the stuff we've been treated to this year.
Anybhody had their Season Book renewals in yet?
-
Re Gary Kelly.
He is not on £5 million per year or £100,000 per week. I hope Ken Bates is misquoted in relation to this if not it says more about Bates than it does about Gary Kelly. Gary Kelly has been a fine servant to Leeds United who has been treated shabily.
For those who do not know Gary's mother died of cancer. Gary gave every penny of his testimonial to build a hospice here in Drogheda which he supports to this day.
-
GL2 / DBB
I think Robbie Fowler is an Ex-professional footballer, retired in around 2001 when he signed for Leeds - before moving to Man City (still on Leeds payroll)!!!!Seriously, I think his last 18 months have been a little unfinished business and focus at the club he loves. The 5 years before that were gruesome.
I'd rather we made a mad mental move for his old sparring partner Mickey Owen, buy out clause £9m.
-
Rev Davie, who can tell? Not me.
BigChips, sorry, on re-reading, clearly I am delusional. Now hoping for a fighting draw.
Weeron, so far the 40’s have been a hoot.
Tom the Tim, looking forward to seeing some of the mystery faces tonight. Pity we are not in better form for it.
-
Paul, you could be right: "a fighting draw". That'll be three red cards to Celtic and a wee talking to for the dons!
-
Paul - Any succulent lamb on the menu tonight? ;-)
GL2 - you've done it now. DR backpage tomorrow "Robbie to sign for his heroes in the summer", i.e. TFOD.
You'll be missed tonight, but looking on the bright side, there will be enough food to go around!
Hartley will start again tomorrow. I'll bet the wee man has promised him a medal and he needs to play the last 2 games to qualify.
Lenny will probably come off before the end so that we can show our appreciation.
Stand up for Neil Lennon.

hi paul.fellow celts. a follow on from the last thread. bloke 109 thank you for the reply . but i am not being swayed by the goings on over the city ,i see with my own eyes the way our team are performing and to tell you the truth if things dont improve we will have more than rangers to worry about next season.
martin 2.19 my wish is to see another celtic captain lift the big one .EUROPE is where we should see ourselves ,build for the top table and the s.p.l. will take care of itself.in gordon strachan i dont see him as the man to take us down that road but as stated previously this is only my opinion .i understand that our circumstances are against us ,but porto are not among the elite and they managed to pull it off .i live in hope .james 5.26 glad you enjoyed. hail hail

Speaking of 7 a side tourneys, does anyone remember the Lanark Police Sports Day at Shawfield?
A'hm jist a wee bhoy sitting on the pitch, waiting for my race, an' on come these Ents in the real Rangers strip (yes, they've got one as well). McKinnon, Hynd, I think Grieg might have been there. Giants among men. Legs like trees.

Watchow,
I must have missed something. What exactly makes you think that you are not welcome here?
As far as the party tonight is concerned, once the cloak and dagger aspect of not letting Paul know what was going on, was blown, I understood it to be an open ticket.
In fact, at one point I thought Martin would be scouring the highways and byeways for people trained in the art of the knife and fork.
I assume, like myself, that geography would preclude a trip to darkest Hamilton for you.
As you may have read in yesterday's post, reference to a previous correspondence between TMC and myself, where he disagreed violently with my point of view. We take these things as part of the charm of the site and move on.
Only when it becomes ultra personal should you consider retirement and I haven't seen anything like that directed on you.
So, away and have your tea and keep giving us your views from Darn Souff.

Remark for the future. It's nonsense to calculate the income for Boruc transfer. In his interesting interview given today to the Polish newspaper he confirms that is going nowhere.
Another thing.Question fro the journalist: " What would you do if you had to make a choice; play for Rangers or change your profession?
Of course I would change my profession. There's no choice for me.

Watchow,
don't go.
Who am I going to beat up on on a Friday?

Interesting comments from Artur,
We have one captain from the most westerly part of Europe, how about one from the eastern part. Boruc for captain.

Wading through the tumbleweed...
I want our captain to be well-versed in what Celtic is all about - as a fan, no 'Celtic-minded' nonsense. The ability to inspire through consistently outstanding performance. A leader. A first choice.
Pains me to say Stephen may not be first choice next year. Artur for me.

Tom the Tim
I don't know if he's good candidate for a captain role, but I'm sure he realised that his behavoiur will close the way to any other club in Scotland. He decided that Celtic is the only club over there for which he can play.
-
My dear friend, Bloke109...
Brace yerself,me hearty...
I hope da next Celtic Captain, performs a Whoooooolelooootttttta Bettah....dan da erstwhile erst.
Lennno was a deplorable example of whit a captain should be.

Kojo,
Yer Pal... who t'inks it wiz the time tae tell a few HOME TRUTHS!
-
Bloke109,
That's two of us, so far.
There really isn't an obvious candidate. Mc.Manus, as yet doesn't have the stature or charisma for a Celtic captain.
Lennon has/had it. Mc.Namara and Boyd were nowhere near it. Lambert had it. I never saw Paul Mc.Stay in the flesh, as it were and Celtic games were rarely on television in Ireland, but his record as captain wasn't good. He, I think inspired more by his play than his strength of character.
I feel if SMc.M gets the armband, it will make him first pick, which ,i feel will deny O'Dea, Kennedy and even Cuthbert the opportunity to break through.
Whenever possible, I think the skipper should be a first pick, consistant in ability and have a strong personality for the dressing room and the field. Artur, I believe, ticks all the boxes.
I wonder is anybody barred yet?
-
Paul.
I listened to the Tommy Burns intervue on Channel67,Talking about to-morrows game,He said GS would'nt have any input in the game,He said if Celtic wins I'll take lots of credit,If we get beat Gary Pendrey will get the blame.
TB also said that the young Irishman was coming to the game, and spending a week at the club to see if he likes it here.
Also, when asked about the signing of Roy Maakay,He said that RM would be more interested in bayern or barca but not Celtic, but he said that it was good that Celtic were getting mentioned in the same league as the big teams. He does'nt think he'll come to Celtic.
-
watchow.
Your posts are sound.
I really do not believe anyone would ever stoop to the level of bullying you are on about. Thats what it would be if people deliberately left another person out.
I honestly don't think that would have happened.
Over paranoid, maybe. Inherited genetically as a tim, most definitely.

So please come back... yer protest is a storm in the tin cup!
Now, in answer tae yer Vituperation... Mr.SDSTIM..
You are badly in need a lesson in communication, my friend.
First...when replying to a statement made by another.....
Ye nevah attack da writer!
If you harbor a different opinion from the writer in the box..then by all means... state your case in your OPPOSITION to his opinion....
Your case should be presented as vociferously as you wish.... within bounds... as propriety demands...
What you have done in your vitriolic riposte to my opinion, is most uncivil, and ignores the rules of fair play.
You have ATTACKED THE MESSENGER!
That is a No No of the foist water.
Your reaction should be based solely on... FORTIFYING YOUR PERSONAL OPINION of the Corresponding OPPOSITE OPINION!
In your case...not one woid is related to strengthening your case of just why you are in total disagreement of my opinion of Lenno's Non Captain Like tenancy!
And dat my friend is what this Blog is all about.....
It exists for the discussion of ideas....
IT SHOULD NEVAH BE USED as A PUBLIC VEHICLE TO EXPRESS ANIMOSITY!
I hope you now understand that other peoples' opinions will tend to differ from your own.
That is the way of the woild...
So,in light of this new info, that you have received on how to behave in a proper manner, when someone else's opinion differs from your own I am sure you will be a more worthy contributer to CQN.
Kojo.

Ardoch.
Thats great news if true,I spoke to a couple of guys outside Celtic Park three months ago and they said the same thing about Celtic expanding the Stadium.
The most interesting thing is the renaming of the Stadium,£150mill would solve the tranfer kitty.
Paul was dropping hints on the last blog about good news but would'nt expand further.
-
The expansion of the stadium is not on the cards. And that is from the horse's mouth eight days ago.
We do not have the demand for an increase in seats as there is only very rarely a sell-out at CP. There is no huge waiting-list for season-cards. Now it may be a possibility with a naming rights income of £15m a year, but that figure seems unlikely.
And re the article, Celtic got into the Commonwealth Games bid with the stadium as is, not dependent on expansion. And remember there is the small matter of Glasgow not having been awarded the Games - while I sincerely hope we get it (I've signed up in support), Abuja is a strong and worthy competitor.
The article is hoary speculation - the 'new underground link' is nowhere near being passed (admittedly if Glasgow wins, this may happen).
As rumours go, it's a top one, but it won't happen. Expansion, not in the foreseeable, naming rights perhaps, but not for the figure quoted.
-
From wikipedia re The Emirates - £100m over 15 years, including shirt sponsorship, not allowed to use name in CL if not official CL sponsor:
It was announced on 5 October 2004 that the Emirates Stadium will be known as such for at least the first 15 years after the club agreed a £100m sponsorship deal with Emirates Airline. This sum also includes payments for an eight-year shirt sponsorship by Emirates, starting in the 2006–07 season.[8]
The stadium name is often colloquially shortened to "The Emirates", although some supporters continue to use the former name "Ashburton Grove" for the new stadium, especially those who object to the concept of corporate sponsorship of stadium names.[9] This discrepancy between official and unofficial names is similar to the manner in which Arsenal's former ground, Arsenal Stadium, is almost universally referred to as "Highbury" by supporters, the media and the club itself.[10]
Due to UEFA regulations on stadium sponsors, during UEFA Champions League matches the stadium is not officially referred to as Emirates Stadium, as Emirates are not an official sponsor of the Champions League competition; other stadia, such as the Allianz Arena in Munich, have fallen foul of this rule before.[11] UEFA refer to the stadium as Arsenal Stadium,[12] which was the official name of the stadium at Highbury

Following today's decision by the SFA review panel, Scott McDonald will be eligible to return for Motherwell in their last game of the season against Dundee United.
But will miss the first two games of next season for Celtic.
The SFA - dontcha love 'em?
-
hoopla -
To be honest, I expected them to delay for a couple of weeks so that he could play for Motherwell this season, then serve his suspension only once he was a Celtic player. Oh, and that they would add another couple of matches for daring to complain.

The match against the Dons is a grand old day because it is Neil Lennon´s "adios" to Celtic Park. It will take some time getting used to him not being there. Did you ever see Lennon flap? (Is that what they call it?) Nothing has ever fazed him, even when the other teams have been lashing down on us and we grittingly have tried to hold on .
There he appears, with his sou wester on, challenging the storm, or like a polis in the middle of the mad traffic trying to direct the cars back up to the other end. He seems to have been able to do this throughout his long career by being three times quicker thinking than his opponents.
He has been the true grit of our team and if ever there was a guy who deserved that tag,
"hard but fair"
Then that would be him.
-
My dear friend, Gerry...
A fair and honest rejection of my opinion.
Most acceptable.
Your estimation of what he has/had to offer in his Celtic Performances far exceeds mine...and by quite a portion.
I am a betting man... but on this occasion I will defer to my inclinations in realizing the impracticality of placing a wager.
The Wager?
When, thankfully the door closes for BETTAH or WORSER on Lenno's Gluteus Maximus.... An' his Gluteus has been steadily getting More Maximus as the time went by!
I shall be happy as a pig in the proverbial.( Should dat not be "Kid"?....ed)( Foist of all...ah dinna think that a kid would be too enthralled aboot the proverbial, that ah hiv left unsaid!)
I would wager.(Which ye will no!....ed)( Exactly!) that The Celtic Mid-Field will benefit greatly, in the apppearance Lennon's permanent absence!
He is a most unskilled player in the respect of ever being able to make a shrewd scything FORWARD PASS.
Consequently, he never seems lose the football, as he always ops to make the much safer, but most deleterious( as far a quashing the flow of a forward attack)Square or even Backward pass to a colleague.... It is most frustrating as this type of Negative...but safety first behaviour....only allow the enemy to re- group ...and strengthen their marking of our forwards.
Note....
I am providing reasons, why I believe that Lennon's behavior was never of any CONSTRUCTIVE USE in our past contests...especially against a team who where intent in Playing .... NINE IN DA BOX!
My template for a Mid-Fielder, is the old tried and true.....
"Forward , the Light Brigade... Charge for da guns...ders not to reason why ...ders...etc.etc."
To sum up...
Lennon shall not be missed... either in his proven Capacity of a NON- Shrewd Provider and NON- Carver of Goal-Scoring Chances....or in respect to his influence from the Captain's Bridge.
The plaintive idiom...
"Lennon is a Winnah".... cuts no frozen watah...wit' me!
Kojo.
Yer pal....who thanks da lord..dat ye are such a reasonable bud.

Fella who posted the 'news' about the stadium confessed on KDS that it was a wind up.

With the rise in ex-Rangers players signing for us these days, should we not be looking at Bob Malcolm to replace Lennon? =P

Got you, thanks. But that wasn't celticblog - his post @ 20.06 (gerry's reference) was about the wearing of something yellow for Madeline McCann - I thought there was some inference about a wind-up on that.
On that, it was mentioned earlier on Reporting Scotland that aside from the supporting connection, Gerry McCann was a 'former medic' at Celtic.

Heres one that TheGodfather

What a time for Blog maintenance.
Apologies Bloke 109 for any confusion. I’m pretty sure Madeline McCann’s dad was employed by Celtic and is currently practising as a GP.
I read that the players will be wearing yellow armbands tomorrow to bring attention to the McCann family’s plight.

It would be good if true but I'm sorry it's a wind-up for the bhoys on the Huddle board.....you should see the melt-down on ff about.
If it's a "wind-up" it's in the worst possible taste - way beyond being sick.

No bother - glad we cleared it up.
I'm starting an online betting company, called ParanoidPower. The first book is on the chances of Artur, Neil, Naka or JVOH being red-carded for something inocuous tomorrow or next Sunday, with a ban to follow meaning missing Cup Final.
Artur for example has 3 league yellows - is it 5 then a suspension?
