Shunsuke Nakamura has completed a clean sweep of SPL player of the season awards after picking up his latest accolade from the Bank of Scotland.
The 29-year-old was presented with his trophy by last year's winner, Paul Hartley, formerly of Hearts but now a team-mate in Celtic's midfield.
He had already been voted player of the year by Scotland's football writers and by his fellow professionals.
Nakamura was also voted Celtic's player of the year by the club's supporters.

If, and I stress IF, we are looking at young Mr Sharp, I wonder if we have also looked at Clint's boy Freddy, currently plying his trade at Sarf-ennnd.
I ken that they were looking for a proposterously high fee during the just ended Championship season, but maybe now that they have returned to the netherworld which contains Carlisle United, maybe the fee has dropped doon a bit.
Just my musings, on this very windy day here in Clydebank!

GL2,
You mentioned, last night, all these old St pats bhoys going on and on the last couple of nights so I'll change the school this time. I'm not actually a St Pats FP ( thats was my dad ). I'm actually an Old Aloysian ( like Brian Quinn, and Harry Hood I believe). However, a couple of weeks ago I was reading an ETims article ( a new rumour mill promised today allegedly ) entitled " Smokescreens, Reality, Denial and Revisionism ". The article is very long and a bit hard going, but there in the middle of it I found out that nearly all my teachers at St Aloysius were actually Rangers players ( accounting for nearly all of their Catholic players between 1914 and 1989 as identified by "Follow,Follow" ). I am now too ashamed to own up to which school I went to. I showed the article to one of my brothers and he said that he always new those teachers were b@%#*&$.

A poor show from Gordon Strachan in blocking the chance for young bhoy Jim O'Brien to play in a cup final.
If he scored the winner it would be our fault not his.
-
pauldominic I read that article but i thought it was a wind up. I am sure they said it was some tims from St Als who put the names forward and someone from the darkside used them to say that these guys were all catholics who had played for them.
As another im sure Andy Murdoch also went to my school. So there are 3 legends in the GG mould from the other night

A classic "no-win" for Gordon. For those who share your view there will be just as many who would share the opposite. Celtic first last and always for me and tough luck for Jim O' Brien. In any case if he fulfils his promise there will be many more ahead for him in the hoops.
-
GL2, it was a wind up, but "Follow,Follow" fell for it. I'm sure that OAs everywhere are highly amused. Some of the people mentioned would'nt know a football if it hit them in the face. By the way, I never got to the end of the article was it actually interesting?
Philvis, I had forgotten that monicker for Dan, LOL!
-
I think Gordon has the Jim O'Brien (a graduate of St Patrick's, Dumbarton's successor - Our Lady and Saint Patrick's!) decision absolutely spot on. I suspect there will be people who agree and disagree in equal measure.
Maybe though the decision should be viewed in context, if O'Brien played then clearly he has no future at Celtic. The fact that he hasn't tells me he might have.
-
Paul67,
Firstly it´s probably not fair on me to name both these gentleman directly. It could just have easily been aimed at previous incumbents and further within the board.
I am not in the fortunate position to have spoken with either one of them. If they have intimated something to you that they haven´t intimated to me through a media outlet then naturally I am relying on supposition.
If you can point me to an article or a quote where it can be demonstratebly seen that a member of the Celtic hierarchy has tried to distance themselves from the concept of Old Firm label I would be very interested.
I will of course provide you with much material to counter such an assertion. Material that has made me cringe because there is nothing I would love to see more than a complete disassocation with Rangers.
Historically I dont think that it can be argued that the Old Firm have been good for one another commercially. It no longer holds true because there is not enough money to satisfy both of them within the confines of the Scottish game. Yet we-they-Celtic still embrace the OF label.
There have been many incidents recently where Celtic could have "put the boot in" yet have chosen not too, that seems to indicate to me and I would reckon many others, that this is one apple cart that they are very wary of upsetting. For some of us, to the point of appearing negligible. That is to say not protecting our interests and their is the counter argument that it has served Celtic well these last 120 years so why ditch it.
The joint sponsorship deals would be my starter for 10

Hot dog: £3.90
Pint of lager: £4.50

the list is endless
Anything that upsets John Yorkston must be good for Celtic
-
PaulDominic 13:47, The article that you mentioned was indeed highly amusing but was really eye-opening in that it exposed the incredible gullibility and determined blindness of many Rangers fans who refuse to accept the facts of their anti-Catholic history. It was mind-boggling to say the least. Mr Gaud went to a great deal of (eloquent) trouble to expose the mindset of that writer’s and his fellow Rangers fans. Well worth reading.

How is Gordon Strachan less of a man by choosing not to let O'Brien play? I'm quite sure that Gordon Strachan as a man would love to let him play but Gordon Strachan's first responsibility is to those who employ him and so he has made the only decision he could make. Don't understand your problem with that.
-

Plastic Pitch
i also think this is where the abuse to N Lennon started.
-
I don't give a monkeys for dunfermline, in fact i was laughing when i heard John Sutton of all people relegated them, i am saying Strachan and Celtic should have been big enough to let Jim O'Brien play for Jim O'Brien's sake.
We have robbed the bhoy of his big day. It is pathetic, and smacks of being scared.
Anyway, i'm still getting my head around £4.50 for a pie. Who's pie is it?
-
I think the problems are due to Yorkston rather than Dunfermline per se.Prior to his arrival we had good relationships with them, helped of course by the JS connection.
I see Hoops and Pars legend wee Jackie Mcnamara has become a sheep in[ex]Wolves clothing.

If it wasn't for Gordon Strachan then Jim O'Brien wouldn't even be close to a Cup Final place. He's the first Celtic manager to actively use the loan system to the benefit of Celtic and (more often) to the player's future.
I don't see how providing a player for the opposition squares with our aspirations. I can only imagine the glee with which some people would slaughter the manager if a decision to let O'Brien play led to a Celtic defeat.
-
Re O'Brien - it's the right decision for CELTIC and nothing else matters.
Make mine a double....
-
pauldominic - I was there a bit before your time and much as I agree with you about the boys only policy, I always found the attendees at the girls school up the road (forgotten its name) to be extremely accommodating !

HHBhoy, you are indeed very correct. Everybody should read the article. For EdwardU I'm afraid many, many of your fellow supporters are in denial and trying to revise history and lookings for straws to cling to. PaulDominic :- If you have a link to the article I'd be happy to read it, I'm pretty well known for enjoying a good wind up. As for some Rangers fans being in denial, I'm sure there are some but in my opinion that is just stupid as the facts are there for all to see.
DBBIA :- That would be in complete contrast to the silence in the rags when Mr Graveson's better half came into the country :-)

-
I think it is up to Gordon what is best for the team. That being said I think that most of the Dunfermline team will not have the chance to appear in a cup final again and to that extent I think it is a shame that Jim O'Brien is not getting his chance.
I am not judging his ability and that he will never make it to the top level. Rather there are a lot of very good players out there for one reason or another never have the chance.
-
EdwardU,
I'm afraid to say that I'm not very computer literate and the best that I can do is that if you go to www.etims.net you'll get on to the home page and the article is listed on the right hand side of the page under latest updates ( Smokescreens, Reality, Denial and Revisionism ). Maybe someone really clever will do you a real link.
-
As regards O'Brien - this sort of decision should not be left to the clubs. It should be an sfa/league requirement that a player should not be allowed to play against the club which holds his registration. I appreciate this might impact upon players development but it just a conflict too much. Unfortunately the way things are going (cf the Scott Brown situation this weekend) this is not going to happen.
-
I for one hope Scott Brown plays out of his skin tomorrow. Will make the dark side feel even more sick.
-
The O'Brien situation - no brainer.
I agree with failedtheologian. It should be a matter of regulation by the authorities but given that it is not, it is Gordon Strachan's duty, duty as Celtic manager to maximise our chances of lifting that trophy. And if that means, denying Dunfermline one of their first choice players so be it.
It is a shame for the bhoy but that is not Gordon's responsibilty; his is solely to the club and the supporters. He is not paid to be nice but to win matches especially Cup FInals.
Imagine the outcry here from the usual whingers if we were to lose and O'Brien played a blinder.
Gordon Strachan did right.

Aw Naw @ 1409,
I've got to agree with you mate.
I used to have a wee soft spot for the Pars and their fans after such times as their "Congratulations" banner when we won the league in 1988 and also when they were quite happy to see us win it in 1998 and gave us no problems when in their stands/terracing on the 2nd last day of the season that year and various other interactions I had with Pars fans over the years.
However ever since Yorkston opened his big mouth and dipped his tiny little oar into the muddy waters of Scottish football, esp with reference to Celtic, I have had an abiding hatred of the fat clown and as such have watched with glee any misfortune "his" club have suffered.
Therefore re. Jim O'Brien, whilst I feel sorry for the Bhoy, as far as Dunfermline are concerned.......

Steven Frail, in whatever coaching position he has at Hearts for the time being, said on Scotland Today that if Scott Brown is worth £4.4million, Craig Gordon must be worth £10m.
Following that logic, with international experiene and Champions League experience, and League winning experience, Artur must be worth £20million.
STV again linked Rangers with Cuellar of Osasuna, saying a move was likely. Then played a clip of Walter Smith saying Rangers hadn't spoken to the player or the club. Bhardwaj's report contradicted itself in two sentences. Remarkable stuff.
And the SPL will be a duller place without the fatuous and asinine comments of John Yorkston. 'We're disappointed Celtic have chanegd their minds but we move on.' Gordon, did you change your mind? Gordon: No. Reasons to be glad Dunfermline are down and will be sunk in six months number 215.

to one person the answer would be YES,Hence the 80%/20%

He said an ex Celtic player mentioned that to him.
And obviously wouldn't give a name.
It's not unreasonable to say that collectively on CQN we are in the know to a greater extent than these dimwits in the media.

EdwardU,
a lot funnier when you know the people concerned.
Oldtim, don't listen. it boosts their listening figures enableing them to ask for more in advertising revenues. I haven't listened in years or taken the Record or Sun, not once since the famous Christmas outing. Life is better without them. If the teds want to live in denial and have goebels tell them what they want to hear, well then they shall reap what they sow. They shall have a lot more weeks like this. Real celts don't read the Record or listen to snide ( and we Have Terry O'neill keeping on their case because we do need someone knowing what the enemy are doing ).

hUGE kEVINS states that Murray hasn't spoken to him in 3yrs and priceeds to do some sabre rattling on his behalf.
Keevins has swallowed it for that long,he no longer knows which way is up.
He also mentioned tonight the stick that was used to beat Celtic with for YEARS, was the biscuit tin.
What stick is used to beat Rangers ?
He also opines David Murray hates being second best, surely he's getting used to it.
Over the past few nights Radio Clyde has resembled a counciling centre for hurting huns.
You could buy your Rangers season book online from Radio Clyde for the coming season, conflict of interest?
Part of me likes the lack of criticsm its kept the pressure off Murray long may he continue, the other part of me dislikes the compliant, double standard, crawling, sycophantic guys who masquerade as journalists and pundits in our neck of the woods.
