"Hassled by their own fans"... how depressing.
At least it will never happen at Celtic.
-
Sorry for the re-post from the end of the last article:
Has anyone watched the 'Celtic v Rangers: Duels' program on ESPN? It's on just now and being repeated at 4pm on Sky channel 442.
I think we came out of it quite well, other than the Celtic fan on it saying he spends 90 mins at CP singing sectarian songs - must be singing them to himself ;-).
Some fairly damning shots of the so-called 'Red Hand Salute' and plenty of sectarian singing from TFOD, I didn't hear any sectarian songs from the Celts.

It was the right time for Jewell to leave I think, I wonder if Steve Coppell will be in exactly the same position a year from now?
I'd reckon he will be back, maybe as Man City's next but one saviour.
I have a fondness for Jewell after the following quote:
'I was linked with the Rangers job but that will change when they see what school I went to'
-
Blantyre Kev,
On your last post you said.
"Anyway, good question. Easier to answer by you aul' hauns who have seen most of the post war teams right enough!"
At last, some acknowledgement for age and experience, even though the memory is growing dim. :>)
-
Paul Jewell comes across as a decent, genuine guy. I watched his team on Sunday and after they had survived he was interviewed and said "I hope the guy who threw his season ticket at me after the West Ham game is watching this, in fact he'll probably be behind the goals celebrating"
Kind of sums up the modern fan, Wigan who are a tiny club in the grand scheme of things, actually being in the premiership for the first time in their history still isn't enough for them, they want more.
The even more frightening thing is that the chairman has promised the new manager, Chris Hutchings, who lasted 12 games I think at Bradford after Jewell left there, 20 million to spend in the summer. I will take a punt that he's out of a job by Christmas.
-
Bambi, I didn’t hear that quote from Jewel, but when he referred to the incident at his moment of joy, you know how deeply it affected him.
As you suggest, you can see a club in the process of eating itself.
-
Paul
I agree with the sentiment of your article - however I was watching Sky Sports news yesterday and Paul Jewel repeatedly stated that he did not leave due to his health. Infact stated he thrived on pressure, and on 4 out of 5 last day of seasons (in which he was fighting relegation/promotion) he has been on the winning side, the other was a draw.
He said basicly he thought he had taken Wigan as far as he could and wants a break before taking on another challenge.
Sorry....
-
I too like Jewell, he seems to be fairly anti-darnelist and so in my eyes he is a .....
WeeGem
-
Paul,
I actually felt sorry for him at that point as you could see it had gotten to him so much that he had to mention it at that point. He seems to be a pretty talented guy to take small teams into the premiership is no easy task. I think he'll be at a bigger club in six to twelve months after his sabbatical. He did the same thing after leaving Bradford.

Legends?
Start with a definition.
The original definition would include, I think, greatness, significance beyond history, with a strong element of fictional or apocryphal content.
Of course, the definition has been diluted by modern usage, so you can, like Jim Craig, become a leg end in your own lunchtime.
For me a legend is obviousl someone who has achieved a certain status in the club through his football abilities and performances. But there also has to be something about him that will cause people to tell stories about him in years to come. Stories that may or may not be true, or true but a bit exaggerated.
So for me it's not just about ability or medals won. It's personality, character, exploits.
I may have seen Charlie Tully play but I don't remember it. But I've heard the story of the twice taken corner kick against Falkirk, and I've heard about his "legendary" skills, so he's a legend for me.
I'm sure we will talk about the day Martin O'neill took Neil Lennon to the Celtic end at Ibrox for many years, so that will become a "legendary" tale too perhaps.
Jock, Jinky, the achievements and the stories are endless.
John Hughes is a personal favourite, and his baseball boot shuffle in the 8 goal route of Aberdeen is kind of legendary,, but I don't think yogi quite makes it on the achievements front. Sorry, yogi, but you're still my hero.
Paddy Crerand may have been a great player, and he may have done great things with ManU. But not a Celtic legend for me, I'm afraid.
Someone else would have to speak up for Davie Hay. Great player, definitely, and he did well enough for us as a manager. But will we be talking about him in hushed tones in 20 years?
Aw heck, maybe they're just all legends. Whose got the best legendary story?
-
Paul Jewell has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant manager's job at Manchester City.
Jewell, who quit Wigan on Monday after guiding them to Premiership safety, was reported to be among the contenders for the City post.
However, Jewell insists he has no intention of taking over at Manchester City and is planning to take a break from the game
"I am not going to Manchester City," Jewell told Sky Sports News. "I gave the chairman (Dave Whelan) my word, I looked him in the eye and I have got an open relationship with him.
"I am having a rest from the game and he has been very understanding about that.
"I would not do that to the chairman. I have got too much respect for him and Wigan Athletic to do that.
"If I was going to go somewhere I would be straight with him, but I am not going anywhere."
Jewell also moved to reject talk that health problems were one of the reasons why he decided to quit Wigan.
When asked if the job had affected his health, Jewell said: "Absolutely not. I said to the chairman I want to take a break and spend time doing things I want to do.
"I had lots of calls off my friends saying am I alright. I am fine, I just want a break there is nothing wrong with that.
"I have had six years at Wigan and we have climbed mountains really and everyone deserves credit for that and I just feel the time is right for me to step aside and take time off.
"I think I have done well enough at Wigan to walk way with my head held high.
"I think I have done as much as I can there and I want a break."

anyone else notice the desperation of the papers to keep the scott brown story off the back pages?
my paper these past 2 days have had the uefa final but amazingly today gary o'connor to come home to the gers filling the THREE main sport pages while scott's comments on coming to celtic a mere sideline at the edge of the page!
ours is a massive piece of one-upmanship and football business which in any other country would fill the pages for a week but no, not here.
the chickens have come home to roost for rangers and this media on "WHERE CELTIC ARE" at this time and where their beloved institution sadly lies.
they don't like it one little bit.
wait for the backlash.
i fully expect no more talk of how good a player scott brown is and how he'll struggle to keep his place with celtic and scotland.
his temperament will be in question constantly.
he will be booed by rangers when he touches the ball.
only because they were spouted stories of his undying love to sign for them by the truly biased media.
now lennon has gone that ONLY leaves 3 players who will be booed and persecuted every time they touch the ball.
ONE PLAYER FOR BLESSING HIMSELF.
ONE PLAYER FOR PLAYING FOR A COUNTRY HE GREW UP IN AND HAS SPENT MORE OF HIS YEARS IN THAN ANY OTHER.
NOW A PLAYER WHO HAS THE AUDACITY TO COME TO THE BIGGEST CLUB IN SCOTLAND RATHER THAN THE BACKWARDS INSTITUTION THAT IS RANGERS.
Hopefully this is the new type of person and player growing up in this country.
WELCOME SCOTT BROWN.

Whats the link between the article and Celtic? is this a thinly vieled swipe at Celtic fans for booing WGS? or am i reading too much into this....
-
'The Brazen will outlast the Talented';true enough, because we all know that talent is not enough to get you to the top in football, and many other walks of life.
What may become more common is for young managers with proven records will walk away from the game to recharge their batteries, knowing that their record will guarantee them future employment.
My top 3 Celtic legends since the end of the War would be Fergus Mccann,Jock Stein and Jimmy Johnstone.
-
I was delighted to see Wigan stay up and sad to see Paul Jewell resign.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gordon has been in touch with him since he made his decision.
As much as Paul Jewell clearly loved his football he knew his health and family came first.
Like Gordon I think he'll come back stronger from his rest.

ThismanCraig @12.11 :- You quote Mr jewell as saying 'I was linked with the Rangers job but that will change when they see what school I went to' In this he has it completely wrong, at Ibrox we have players from the three main branches of Christianity and in recent years have had players from all three Abrahamic religions, we have had a Catholic captain and a Catholic manager. For all the faults Mr Murray may have he has never operated a sectarian emloyment policy at Ibrox.

Good point about Fergus. I like the story about the local residents with bad TV reception because of the new stadium.
If I remember it correctly, a group of residents got together to complan that the new stadium had wrecked their TV reception and they wanted compenstaion. After the ritual negotiations Fergus finally agrred on a sum and made them ther offer.
There was one condition. They had to turn up the next day with their TV licence to claim the money.
Allegedly no one turned up.
I'm sure the last part at least is apocryphal and an unwarranted slur on the local residents. But it is the stuff of legend.

As a fully signed up memmber of the paranoid media anorak csc, I've picked up on the language some commentators use when talking about players, esp the BBC Scotland commentators and pundits, who, now Jock Brown has been posted to Setanta's SPL bottom six grounds, are my current bugbear.
David Begg couldn't control his disappointment when JVOH got the winner against St Johnstone. Embarrassing.
Paul Mitchell and Ian McColl refer to Scott Brown as "Scotty" Brown and usually fawn over every touch he makes.
Suspect he'll be plain old Scott Brown next year, maybe even just "Brown". Neil Lennon never gets referred to as "Lenny".
I need to get out more, I know.
-
Can anyone confirm if Scott Brown is playing on sunday?
-
hi people just found this we article on the last page of the sun
But there were bizarre scenes in Merchant City when dozens of Rangers casuals began chanting sectarain songs.

Taggysbhoy,
Do you get a badge and a certificate for joining the PMACSC?
If so count me in!!!
Edward,
Yes Murray may have signed catholics and had a catholic captain recently on which I applaud his efforts but at the same time the club has "asked" players to refrain from showing their background while playing for the club.
It is clear you are not allowed to upset the poor wee souls in the stand.
We know this and more importantly to putting bums on seats at Ibrox Murray knows this.

Not sure if anyone has posted this already but I've been reading about Graham Roberts dismissal and it makes interesting reading.
It's been claimed that he was fired due to racist comments made while on a tour with the club in Canada.
He is said to have told a boy in a wheelchair "F**k off or I'll let your tyres down" and on being heckled by a crowd he shouted "Jew boy, shut up, or I'll put you in the gas chamber".
The information comes out as Roberts takes his former employers to tribunal for unfair dismissal
I doubt the laptop loyal will report this one widely.
Wit a guy!

Favourite Paul Jewell quote. When Wigan were going well a few years ago he was asked at what point did he start to think about Wigan in Europe. He replied usually after 10 pints
-
Emjay - who is the "PLAYER FOR PLAYING FOR A COUNTRY HE GREW UP IN AND HAS SPENT MORE OF HIS YEARS IN THAN ANY OTHER"?
It isn't McGeady, he grew up here and went to school here. he spent his holidays in Donegal.
-
EdwardU,
Paul Jewell's comment that you refer to was made in February 2006, before PLG had been connected with the Rangers job.
At that time, Murray, who definitely encouraged the signing of players from all religious backgrounds since 1989, had not appointed a Catholic at any senior post at Rangers either at board or management level.
-
The acquisitions of Scott Brown, Derek Riordan, Paul Hartley, & Scott McDonald were all concluded swiftly & with little fuss & I'm sure that next season we will see a more dynamic team on the park with a genuine edge in the final third.
Although it's pleasing that these boys were all snatched from under Rangers noses particularly as they were talked up in the Scottish Media as done deals for Mordor, i can sense that a section of our support have a fixation with getting one over our rivals at every opportunity. It's as if we're still trying to exercise the demons of Mo Johnston's (Le Petit Merde) act of betrayal. Admittedly this still haunts me, but we have to walk our own line & rise above this way of thinking if we're to remain a great club.
My only request is that the support can keep their emotions in check this summer. It's easy to get carried away when you're signing players from Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven & the best young Scottish players, but we should keep the recent Ibrox performance firmly at the forefront of our thoughts & keep the gloating till we're putting them to the sword again next season.
-
VargasShampoo
On "Le Petit Merde", I was astounded that Celtic were considering loaning out JK to his Canadian team, was there any truth in this rumour, Paul?
Also, on PLG/Darnel, why was one of the first 'facts' to come to light in the chip wrappers, the fact he wasn't a regular chapelgoer, only at Christmas.....what was the need for that?
-
Spirit of Arthur Lee,
Having been at the match last night (great atmosphere - hopefully we can get close to that for the Cup Final next Saturday), there were quite a few Rangers fans cheering on Espanyol, judging from some of the 'tunes' they were singing outside, wearing of Rangers strips etc. so I'm not surprised they were imposing their 'cultural traditions' on the poor Spanish fans in the Merchant City.
Saw a few Hoops-clad folks in the crowd but I think most of them were genuine neutrals. No idea why Rangers fans (in the main, before Edward comes back) were supporting the Catalans...
My only complaint about the evening was the complete lack of foresight in South Side hostelries having late licenses (they were all shut at 11, which given the ET and pens, didn't leave any time). Not everyone can head back into town. Fix it please, Glasgow City Council.

Same where I was sitting in Section G - Celtic end close to the main stand. A few including myself were supporting Sevilla, but the blue clad huns sitting next to me were supporting Espanyol. As were most in that section - supporting the underdogs perhaps.
There was a man in a Celtic polo shirt and baseball cap sitting a couple of rows in front of me, wearing one of those "combined" Sevilla / Espanyol scarves, you know in red, white and blue. I should have asked him if his neck was burning wearing that around it!
Curly
-
Panenka's Chip
Very fair point about the closing of southside bars at 11 - may not have been the Council's fault though, as from what I hear they didn't apply for extended licenses. If they did and were rejected, poor show from the Council.
Was in a taxi last night with a driver moaning about the fact free buses were laid on from Buchanan Street meaning he and his ilk lost out.
Anyone know what the city-centre was like around midnight? Or were the fans heading home.
-
Curly - yes, those scarfs were not for me! Not my colour scheme...
Must have been sitting relatively close to you. I was section H and I have to admit that the Espanyol fans were excellent - supported their team noisily all the way through the match. I was delighted they took it to penalties, despite Sevilla having had chances to finish the game off in ET.
No hot food at half time too - an embarrassment! Hampden really does live on it's reputation. The actual truth is that the stadium is badly run and if you're in the middle of the Celtic or Rangers ends, a terrible place to watch football.
-
Jeez I thought… Celtic only confirmed that they had received an approach from the Canadian club, they made no comment on how it was received.
-
ThisManCraig & TheLeftWinger :- Thanks for the replies, you both bring up fair points, about the crowd and the board. As far as the crowd goes all I can say is that things are changing, it may be a lot slower than many would like but they are changing and hopefully will continue to do so. As far as the board goes I honestly don't think that there is any discrimination, I don't think many Catholics would want to invest enough in Rangers to get on the board that way, however I'm fairly sure that if a candidate for one of the appointed positions was a Catholic and the best man for the job then he would get it.
-
Re JFK and a loan deal.
I thought Celtic had been looking for a team to loan him to during the summer and he would probably have gone to the US until Celtic discovered they had a plastic pitch. Then Dr Stedman / Celtic Doctors ruled it out.
Hail Hail

Is the guy who runs Hampden ex Celtic official David Kells - think he was in charge of Marketing under Fergus.
If this is all Celtic News not lazy Journalism then how about a lead article not based on fact, interest from a general football perspective but little to do with current Celtic. Unless there is a hidden meaning... Jewell's name incorrect and he 'sighted'? Cited surely. Wouldn't happen in the papers. Ahem.
As mentioned earlier Hutchings will last til Christmas if he's lucky - if Wigan are lucky they'll survive unlike Bradford who haven't looked forward since he took them down.
-
I think our continued signing of young Scottish talent is very encouraging.
Not because I'm one of those 'too many foreigners' types but because of the Uefa rules regarding home grown and home trained players.
By the time they come fully into effect, not will we have the required number but they'll also have Euro experience and therefore we won't be trying to fulfill the quota by having inexperienced younsters in our Euro squad.
If we hold onto Sno long term I think he'll fall into the home trained category, having been signed at a young age (maybe not though).
-
Great article Paul.
Fortunately for us we have TWO great managers - WGS and TB.
It still amazes me that some fans can't get behind Strachan.
Clearly they forgot some of the dross MON's teams dished up over the years - with far bigger budgets and probably better players.
Scott Brown is a good buy - possibly more expensive than He should be but nonetheless a great capture.
We have an amazing set of circumstances in place at the moment -
Financial Stability
The best CEO in the business (anywhere)
One of the best managers in the UK
A group of young talented players who will continue to develop with experience
As fans we OWE it to our club to accept the bad days when they come and support out team and management to the hilt - so that the above four strengths continue for a VER LONG TIME.

I didn't reply, I merely started it! My post was in jest, as I suspect Paul Jewell's was, though as TLW correctly pointed out at that time there had been no Catholic in charge arguably there still hasn't :-)
Rangers can be accused of alot of things and institutionally I still think there's a major problem but employment is not one of them.

Panenka's Chip @ 14.37
Hampden Park is a National Disgrace, which lost its reputation with me a long time ago, maybe when they covered the Rangers end.
Ernie's Folly is criminal, and to be playing a European final in the third best stadium in Glasgow is scandalous. I have no idea what the Spaniards behind the goals would have made of it, or what they think Celtic Park or Ibrox must be like.
I know what I made of it in my privileged main stand enclave. £85 for a seat 9 rows from the front, and with a leaking roof above me (no, it wasn't wind blown rain, the roof leaks).
I could watch the football and get regular big drips of cold water on my head, or I could watch the drips and dodge them as they fell. I couldn't do both.
Not much makes me angry in football any more, but Hampden never fails. If anything could ever symbolise the self seeking self satisfied self centric pusillanimity that is the Scottish Football establishment it is our National White Elephant.
Interesting that when said establishment loses its influence, a sensible choice is made about the signal stadium for the Commonwealth Games.

Not that its all that important but mcgeady didnt spend most of his life in Ireland. I know, i was his neighbour in Glasgow when he was growing up. Don't want to sound like im taking sides with the people booing him but just thought i would clear that.
-
TRRDH(PPF) @14.18 :- I'm well aware of the sectarian bile that exists at Ibrox and have long argued against it. However I would say that things are changing with a ever growing number of fans having views more akin to my own. As I said earlier it may not be happening as fast as would be desired but it is happening.
WinningGemmell @15.10 I thought by the rules it was always the correct man that got that job :-)
Bloke109 @15.11 :- I agree, it's a lot easier to change the way people behave than it is to change the way they think, many will change behaviour for the sake of the club but still feel the same inside (I've heard the same argument over songs on here) but how someone thinks isn't a criminal offence, how they behave can be and if that changes then maybe that's the best that can be hoped for.

About Legends.
Surely the one one at the top of the pile has to be Jimmy McGrory.
Most goals in a season 50.
Record scorer 550,record stands
for UK as well.
Scored 8 goals against Dunfermline in one game, another record.
Whats most impressive is he done it all with the old leather ball, which doubled in weight if it rained.
I've said it on here before, I'd love to have seen the LEGEND play.
Sadly after all his goalscoring feats, he managed to get only SEVEN caps for his country Scotland,I wonder why that was,as he was without doubt the best player of his generation.
PS I know why.
-
ThisManCraig :- Thanks for the reply this time lol, I actually intended it to Emjay, my apologies to you both. You may well be right about the situation under Mr Le Guin lol

Hampden is a disgrace, basically 1 stand cost 60 million plus whatever money those 'rescue deals' costs. The other 3 stands are a joke and with the 1 roof in place they are now impossible to redevelop.
If you compare Hampden to the Millenium Stadium which cost 120 million. The Cardiff stadium has a roof which can be closed and it's right in the centre of town, it couldn't be better placed.
Also Celtic Park won't get any European Finals because the SFA will always nominate Hampden.

Celtic Park will never get a European Final because it is not a UEFA 5 star facility. For all its faults, and there are too many to mention, the facilities for players and the media within the South stand are comparable to anything else in the world.
10 years on from consstruction and 20 years since the new frontage I think Celtic Park is beginning to tire but it's not exactly 1st in the list of priorities.
-
Hugh, the galling part of the Hampden experience last night was that after spending all that money, they needed to erect scaffolding on top of hundreds of seats to provide temporary big screens.
A basic element of a modern stadium was omitted.
It is possibly the safest large stadium in Scotland, exiting and access to the ground is good, but the main money appears to have been spent on the underground vehicle tunnel.
Catering facilities are also poor.
At least when you went to the old Celtic end and watched football in the rain, up to your knees in gravel, with 4” wooden plinths which supported the gravel in the 1920s, but latterly stood as a totem to a bygone age, ready to trip you, you looked like you played in the game when you got home.
-
tmc
I suppose Celtic Park will get spruced up before the Commonwealth Games. All paid for by the Council (that's for any lurking huns looking in).
-
Re the Legends candidates from previous thread.
I restricted myself to post war players as even I didn't see any games before the 50s. Granted it was early 50s.
I thought the final yesterday was pretty open and very watchable. However the finishing was woeful. From my vantage point across the pond, it was a good advert for Glasgow. Here's hoping for an equally satisfying result in 9 days time.
WG. Does 9 days a Novena make?
On the manager reshuffle. I really only care about Celtic and I am happy we are are continuing with the same deck.

-
danny 16.02 - There was a rumour mooted elsewhere that should Glasgow get the games, CP would be upgraded to 80,000 all paid for by Council/Govt. Now that would really send some of them into a fizz.
-
wee minger
I think the 80,000 capacity was a wind up but at least the environs & the media centre should get an upgrade.
-
I should say it was Hampden's facilities I was praising there.
A Commonwealth games boost would be very nice, we've already lost the Bus Park to the Kooncil from what I've read.
-
There's no chance of GCC paying for an upgrade of CP. I don't know where that rumour comes from - it has no substance. It will only be used for the opening/closing ceremonies and doesn't need any work done to it for that purpose.
Paul67 - I agree on Hampden. They really missed a trick with it if they wanted to create a world-class venue. Mind you, UEFA seem to like it - no doubt the underground car parks help.
Edward: Can you remind me why constantly refer to Paul Le Guen as 'Le Guin'? You may have mentioned it before but I've forgotten.
The John Greig joke was a belter by the way. LOL :))
-
Paul
Yes, the screens. Ironically, the quality of image and playback was excellent.
Is a new Celtic Park on the current business risk plan?
-
Panenka'sChip :- It's purely down to bad spelling and the fact that my spell checker doesn't correct names :-)
-
Talking about the gravel, I remember being in the old North Enclosure, I think we'd played Ajax, and at the end of the game a contact lens fell out of my eye.
In those days, if you dropped a contact lens everyone wanted to help you look for it. I think the assumption was without it you'd need a white stick.
Anyway, just imagine a dozen people searching the terracing at Hampden for Hugh's contact lens. The ground was damp as always, and actually I wasn't sure I wanted it back anyway. But I was offered green bottle glass, brown bottle glass, clear bottle glass, silver foil, you name it if it reflected floodlight someone thought it might fit in my eye.
Never did find it. But it had grandeur, the old stadium. Legendary.
-
Totally agree on the screens and would love to see them stay for the Cup Final but presumet they are supplied by UEFA. Also noticed that they replayed good saves, fouls etc. Would like to see Celtic do the same at half-times at least but aren't there restrictions from the SPL/SFA abou that - they only seem to show goals. The Hampden screensm however, must have 'cost' around 250 seats or so to the gate.
The permanent scoreboards at Hampden are an embarassment. Something out of an old Atari 70s games console.
-
When I was wee(er) my old man used to take me and my brother to away games and get there early because there was always a spot where you could get an uninterupted view.
At Tannadice it was above the big concrete corners, at Tynecastle there was a huge ridge half way up the terrace. At Motherwell there was a fence at the back of the terrace and you could stand up on the blocks it was concreted into. At Hibs there was a ridge under the floodlights.
At Hampden you had no chance and there was no way we were going down to the front of the terrace behind the goal. So we went to the 'schoolboys enclosure' in front of the south stand. The lowest part of the enclosure next to the track was actually about four feet below pitch level! But the supporting concrete wall that stopped the track falling into the enclosure had umpteen square holes, just big enough to get one foot into that I used for a foothold and would stand in these so that I could see the match. Alternating right and left foot as the weight became tiring on each leg.
On the days it rained it was miserable. Too far forward to have any cover from the Stand's roof and moreover the square holes I had my foot in were the drainage from the track! Imagine draining the water into the terrace. Honest to God. I remember Eric Black putting us to the sword one day. Early eighties, Scottish Cup semi final I think. I also think Charlie Nicholas had been injured that morning and the radio said he was out. There was an air of defeat before we even got there. To then suffer an endless stream of water into your trainers summed up the day.
Roll forward to 1985 and I'm in the exact same spot and the weather is identical. Trainers soaked, Stuart Beadie put Dundee United one up and there's a fimiliar feeling. Davie Provan sticks one in the top corner from a free kick for only the third time in the competition's history and I cannae feel the rain.
Frank McGarvey flies through the air to bullet home the winning header and it's bedlam. Frank runs over to the enclosure I'm in. He's looking right at me and I feel part of the team. Big Roy and him are rolling around in front of me and then my Da and my brother are throwing me around. What a stadium. Fabulous.

I hate the view from the Celtic end at Hampden, I hate the fact you are so far away from the pitch and I hate how long it takes me to get back on the M8.
But no my Cup Final ticket isn't up for grabs.....
-
The good thing about the Hampden gravel was that it absorbed the 'stream of liquid' rather than it running down the steps as it did on a concrete terracing.
But I wouldn't have put anything I picked up from it back in my eye !

does anyone know how long Scot Brown had left on his Hibs contract?????

Spirit of Arthur, email on its way.
Collie, the boss is back on form with that one. Four million? Hmmm. Who would have thought :-)
-
So a player that's supposedly a free (or a Bosman) now commands a £4m fee? Doesn't every 'free' come with a price tag because of big signing on fees and wages etc?
Is this much of a revelation?
-
Young players (under 23?) that have been with a club since the youth ranks command a fee, as a compensation to the club for bringing through the ranks. If it's that scenario were looking at a very good young player who's going to be out of contract at the end of this season.
-
Has anyone looked at the opposition to the Glasgow bid?
From reading about the Nigerian city, their wealth and facilities I would take Glasgow to be the underdogs.

Completely wrong? Really? It may be wrong factually but not completely wrong.
Amoruso talks in his book how he found it bizarre that rangers fans cheered him but sang songs about hating him (through religion) rest of game>
All catholics forced by club not to publically bless themselves, watch "Gio" at barca now, he is a blessing machine, must be making up for lost time, the only player to bless himself (averladze on bench at the bigotfest in linfield) was booed rest of that game and hounded out of scotland to go on and continue to score goals in holland.
Le guen signed for rangers and spent a lot of his press conference explaining how he no longer goes to mass and used to only go at christmas eve but wouldnt be doing that in scotland.
Why is this an issue, why should this even come up at a press conference, so please dont give us completely wrong.
You may be a good guy but your club is rotten to the core, these people wont change (like the ones at san siro in the suits singing the bile on official club business) so until Mr Murray stops taking the bigot money and throws these people out his club then he is implicit in the bigotry.
The worst thing about these people is that they do not think they are doing anything wrong, they are unsaveable, despite gallant efforts from decent fans like yourself.
Jewell statement might be factually wrong (1 in how many years of unsurpassed dignity) but not completely wrong.
The fact that you know peoples religions when they sign for rangers says it all, it is something not contemplated by any celtic supporter when we sign a player.

Could you be referring to Alexander Frei - the Swiss striker who is in Germany at the moment, I believe?

Hi Paul
Very pertinent article which relates to our own Mr Strachan. Less known among Scots supporters was that Gordon proclaimed after being in a high pressure, relegation fighting(at times) and over acheiving with unfashionable clubs he realised if he was to survive, have a lengthy career in management, he had to step back and take stock to come back refreshed and with a less clouded outlook. Paul Jewell has worked wonders at Wigan, taking an unfashionable club from rugby league country into the EPL and last season into an unbelievable top half position while playing good football. This season hasn't been kind to them, survived but the pressure he has suffered has been evident on his personality. Good decision by a potentially great manager. I also have enormous respect for Steve Coppell at Reading, tho a little older he had the pressure at Palace, a helluva nice and realistic guy who I think is lucky to have a slow metabolism:)
Great knew in the above article
