Compliant media ignore Rangers transfers while speculating about Celtic

You have to love the old media. To a man they held onto the story that Brahim Hemdani would join Osasuna this week until a couple of hours after Rangers crucial game against Red Star Belgrade, presumably for fear of upsetting the powers at Ibrox; news which was widely known and reported by Celtic Quick News on Monday.

No such trepidation was shown towards Celtic players, who are reported to be leaving the club if they cancel their milk deliveries.

We often see what we want to see in media reporting of Celtic and Rangers, but a uniform failure to report a genuine transfer until after an important game, while wild stabs in the dark are being aimed at Celtic should raise real concerns about the state of Scotland’s media.

Good luck to the team tonight. An early goal would be just the tonic, but I'll take an 0-0 draw. However, if we play to our strengths, we will qualify.

A damp day in Glasgow coupled with a cool evening will make it a very different tie from the 1st leg and the heat in Moscow. We won't tire tonight and I think this may be what gives us the edge against Spartak.
The defence have done us proud in previous CL outings, so no worries from me re. them. Key may be if we can get a goal from midfield, as I thinkt the attack will be bogged down with 4-5 defenders around them. Fingers crossed Brown plays like he did at the weekend.

I'm going for 2-1 to us.

Optimisitc as usual and confident that the 60,000 in the ground tonight will play their 12th man role to their full.

The inkwells on the laptop desks will be brim full of bible black ink. Their quills sharpened and prepared. Their pencils harder than their very souls. And they shall wait on the result to come from Celtic Park with bated breath. Running the coinage of the 'Old Firm' over and over in their mouths, on their tongues. Finding the pieces that best fit. One half yea and one one half nae.

    But enough of those blouses.

Spartak are a good team, but I fancy us as a better team than the one which played them 2 weeks ago. And again, somehow (Blind faith aside) I just fancy our manager to approach this game the right way. I was impressed with his tactical use of Evander the last time - he trusts the players he's got. Which is more than can be said for us all on here (And that is no criticism friends).

Life should be a great adventure, or nothing. Here's to another Champion's League adventure.

We only know there's gonna be a show - and the Glasgow Celtic will be there.

And the Glasgow celtic will be there....

    Paul67,

To your knowledge is the Hemdani deal linked with the Cuellar purchase? I have heard that Osasuna asked for Hemdani as a swap and they were asked to wait until the CL qualifier had come and gone before he was allowed to go to Spain. Osasuna not being in Europe this year were happy enough because their season only started at the weekend.

    Antibes,

The sun is shining on the south side as I speak. Can't see there being any rain today.

I hate this time of day on a CL night. Just waiting for the time to come. Anticipating the drive to the ground. The atmosphere. I always love the moment when the Champions' League theme music is played and the crowd roars. It always reminds me that this is exactly where we as a club should be.

I'm pretty confident for tonight. If we show form anything like Saturday we should have enough to win the game and get through. Patience will be the key: an early goal would be great but we must stay behind the team if it doesn't come.

Then, if two out of Ajax, Werder Bremen and Benfica fail to qualify, it's pot 2 for tomorrow's draw!

BTW, tonight is what this team and club are all about. Tonight we will smite SM and we will go on to even greater triumphs than heretofore. This is a team of real Quality. The Seville 11 were wonderful. With one exception (guess who ???)this team can deliver. They will learn many valuable lessons in the season that lies ahead.

We have a manager as hungry as all of us to bring success to this club and he will. We are at the beginning of a very long and productive road. Gordon Strachan has the backing of many and those who don't think he can deliver are surely delusional to the extreme.

I now think that he is a better manager than MON and I think he can only get better and I believe he wants to. With the star striker about to come in (am I right Paul ?), this team will be talked about for years to come.

This is the most exciting time that I have ever lived in to be a Celtic supporter Let's get behind the team tonight like never before. Let's show the world that we are indeed TGFITW.

And, thanks to the huns helping to garner Euro coefficient points for the next few years, we will reap the benefits as we automatically qualify as league winners for years to come.

The future's bright, the future's Green and White and long live this dear Green place..... :o)

I dont think we need to wait for Kitalba to inform us how regularly shabbily Celtic plc treat their customers.

When you live abroad and follow Celtic plc you quickly develope a second sense for the money grabbing - screw everything else attitude that Celtic plc has become. Thank god they have Celtic plc foot soldiers telling us that bang for buck is king. I´m sure this explains why we have a support that can only get excited at CL games. Every win in the CL means a better balance sheet - oh the excitement waiting for our half year accounts in December is almost palpable!

It´s an eye-opener. You should try it - following Celtic plc from abroad that is ... especially for when we dont have a presence in Europe and Hampden (aye Hampden) is only half full

I am soooo nervous about tonight.

Of course I think we can qualify, of course I think we WILL qualify, but there are still the little niggling doubts - which I hate - and whilst I know it shouldn't make any difference, the fact that Those Who Must Not Be Named have qualified makes it imperative that we do so too!

I think our midfield have a massive role tonight, not only to get forward and back-up the strikers, but more importantly tonight as far as I am concerned, is to protect our defence and ensure that Spartak have no room to use their pace to get behind our full-backs and get in the crosses which caused us so much trouble in the first leg.

We should do it and with us in full voice behind the team, we SHALL do it and be in that draw tomorrow!

    CMON THE HOOPS!

PS - I can forsee me partaking of a couple of Mr. Guinness' Finest in The Merchant City before the game tonight in order to calm these nerves!

This is thanks to outlets like CQN provided by yourself. Personally, I would like to see more people follow your example.

This year has seen an unpresedented surge in media bias towards Rangers and it only highlights their deperate state.

This onslaught will only make it sweeter when we do 3INAROW.

Unlike Rangers, Celtic face tough competition tonight and will have a big task on their hands in order to progress. As ever, the crowd will need to play thier part.

And while I'm on a role !!!! I've had to give up my season ticket for work reasons and as I am temporarily living in a tin box in the middle of nowhere, I haven't been able to see the team play, apart from this tie's first leg and due to substances, I mean circumstances out with my control, I haven't been able to see them play on TV this season. But having been able to watch the second half of last weekend's game on a dodgy stream on my laptop, I have to say that Scott Brown is the best midfielder I have seen in the Hoops since Paul McStay.

I also think that Naka now understands the Scottish game more than ever. He has developed a steel for our ruff and tumble and he is no longer the luxury player that I think he once was. With him, SB and MD in midfield, we have the heart and ability that has been lacking for the last few years.

I'm neither a glass-half-full, nor a glass-half-empty type of ghuy. I call it as I see it and this team really excites me. I would gladly see Doumbe playing at leftback, as I feel this our only truly weak area. As long as the holy goaly goes nowhere, this team will go from strength to strength.

And just as an aside. this may be my last game at CP for some time, so you can rest assured I'll be giving it my all tonight.

    Paul,

we can never underestimate Murray and his media minnions. I made the point here a couple of days ago that the Sno story was all made up, and on the back of your news about Hemdami, that it was the ideal smokescreen - kill 2 birds with one stone - unsettle Celtic, cover up the cold hard fact that the dark side are losing one of their better players. Hemdami to them is their equivalent of Naka to us (although the players do not compare). Can you imagine the media mentioning as an aside tomorrow that Naka has signed for Brescia ?!
Instead they praise the heroes of Belgrade, a masterclass. It was anything but. There were 11 men behind the ball and very near in their own box defending against a team which is as dangerous as Motherwell. The players knew the financial implications lastnight and you could smell the fear through the television.

Well said Paul, we hardly get any credit from the media.

They print bad news concerning our club
They change words around; they print them how they want to see it
They don’t have our club in their hearts.
They have come out with astonishing lies.
They will publish bad news or speculative bad news at the wrong time.
They rarely get behind the team.
They are culpable of condoning sectarianism.
    They are pro Rangers.

I’m sure there are many other negatives that escape me at the moment, but that’s enough. Therefore when the media are anti Celtic does it really matter if we give them a conference/interview? Leave them outside looking in. Let them speculate. What further damage can they do? No more phone calls just email them. Offer Celtic news in our own words, and let them manipulate this news if they need to.

Like loads of supporters I refuse to buy the Record when home and rarely klick on them.
I despise our media. Unfortunately they reflect most of our society which is anti Catholic.
That’s what it boils down to.

“Give the Russians a roasting Bhoys”
    “Celtic for pot two?”
    “Champions for the champions league”

It’s easy to give us a lift, a wee boost, a bit of positive spin before an important game.
Why don’t they do it? They’re sad Richards that’s why.

Come on the Hoops, get right in to them.

    Hail Hail

And just to make today even better..................

    " Nakamura: Staying at Parkhead

Nakamura happy to stay at Celtic

Shunsuke Nakamura has reiterated his commitment to Celtic by insisting he has unfinished business with the Scottish champions.

The Japan international, 29, was linked with a move away from Parkhead over the summer, amid suggestions of a £1million get-out clause in his contract.

Those claims were dismissed by club chiefs and Nakamura insists he is fully focused on the challenges ahead now that speculation over his future has ended for now.

He said: "Judging by the stories in the newspapers, it looks as though a few clubs were interested in making offers for me.

"But I wasn't thinking of moving from Celtic because I feel I still have things to achieve at this club.

"I was really disappointed when we lost against AC Milan in the Champions League last season and I want to be there again.

"I wanted to be a Celtic player this season."

Continuing, he told the Celtic View: "When I signed for Celtic in 2005, I didn't look too far ahead.

"I was just concentrating on being part of the squad and trying to play as many games as possible. That was the main aim.

"But two years later, I am still here and it's been a great experience.

"I have won four trophies, personal awards and I am playing for a world-famous club.

"It's been a good time in my career but hopefully there is more to come."

Spartak Moscow seem to be pretty confident that they are going to come to CP and do what they need to progress to the Champions League group stage, and Hertz latest Carstairs candidate seems to agree.

However, they all appear to be ignoring the facts...

Whatever happens Spartak have to score, and avoid defeat, to go through.

But Celtic go into this match on the back of seven consecutive Euro home clean sheets. The last player to score a Euro goal against Celtic at CP was Henrik Larsson some three years ago.

That match constitutes the only Euro home match that Celtic have lost in six years, during which time they have played some 27 Euro home games (W20 D6 L1).

Celtic have also kept clean sheets in 18 of these 27 games, and having prevented the likes of AC Milan (twice), Barcelona (UC), Man Utd, Bayern Munich, Porto & Valencia, among others, from scoring at CP, they will be confident of repeating the achievement against Spartak.

Not having a go. I hadn't really paid a lot of attention to your posts, but the last couple of days have had you on such a tirade, that I thought you knew something that others didn't.

Lighten up, enjoy the game. Support the Club.

    Weeron,

The facts are there (on this blog) for you to read. Tic fans been "s*at" on - why ? making a quick buck and not that much either. I´m not having a go here but if you cant deduce that information for yourself then do you really need me to spoon feed you it ?

I tell you what I will enjoy the game. I do support the club - cheeky fkr :-). I dont need to put on a happy face. I am very happy about where we are and abou most of what we are doing. I have so far just been responding to posts. It´s called being polite. Doesn´t mean to say that I have to be "compliant" to the plc voracious appetite for dosh at the expense of our dispora now does it ?

Lets talk about the game. I reckon Mc Geady will be let loose tonight

Didn't see any of the events in Belgrade last night,so can't comment on the performance but it was a good result for them-and a bad result for us.

There is a lot at stake tonight. We should go through and if we do it will not only mean a lot financially and in footballing terms but it will also partially make up for the Artmedia debacle.

Pablo'a tin box in the middle of nowhere'.I'm hurt like JRCash, man.

    You can have it all

    Hi Paul,
A few folk sportingly congratulated me last night and in the same spirit I would like to wish you good luck tonight. Hopefully come May we will beat you in the final in Moscow :-)

This isn't really football but I thought it may be useful to some of you over the next few days depending on how it goes tonight :-)

Kitalba, I was replying to your post at @ 00:48 on the last thread when I saw your retraction of 1105. Well done on saying what you did there.

I'll be fascinated to hear whatever more you can say on the subject, to be honest I was beginning to wonder if Celtic's media people hadn't made a misjudgement on this one. If there's anything you can share that you'd rather not put on the blog, you can e-mail me (see my profile). Do that anyway and we'll meet up for a beer when you get to London.

Awe Naw, clearly kitalba's concerns have touched on a raw nerve, judging by your complaint at 11:33 of " the money grabbing - screw everything else attitude that Celtic plc has become".

I see that as a gross caricature of the club's relationship with its fans, but of course we've each have our own experiences which have led to our diverging views.

I take issue, though, with your suggestion that things have got worse. Can you point to a time within living memory when things were different?

I'd suggest your description is if anything a better fit for the Kelly regime - I don't see anyone on here saying "they may have been fraudsters but at least they looked after the fans".

Uber-capitalist Fergus McCann was many things, including the saviour of our club, but an intense focus on money matters was surely one of them.

And then we come to the present board, who are actually the ONLY custodians of Celtic in generations who have not banked multi-millions as a result of their involvement with the club.

So when exactly do you think that Celtic 'became' money-grabbing, and how does the club's present attitude towards fans contrast unfavourably with the past?

I suggest that you are making an implied comparison with a golden age that never existed - after c.1890 at any rate.

A 4.45am kick off this morning for me so hopefully it will be worth it..Give the bhoys a big cheer for all the expats around the world thos who are lucky enough to be there...

If we play like we did against hearts we will win- if we play like we did against kilmarnock, falkirk or spartak away we will be out tomorrow....Come on the hoops!!!

If Strachan goes with Hartley we are going for a nil-nil....If its mcgeady hold on to your seats!

Kitalba- hopefully you get a chance to watch it...

Shame Prudent plc couldnt have helped narrow the odds for tonight but that conversation is for later...

On this Paul- after the game could you let me know for the last five seasons what the figures are for:

    net transfer spend
    PBIT after adding back depreciation/amortisation
    Debt

    hail hail

Have been a long time browser of this blog. Had to join to refute the absolute nonsense in the latest article. Paul- the Hemdani story was broken by the record on Friday 24. It was splashed all over their back page. So before patting yourself on the back - a quick check will reveal that they published the story a full three days before you claim to have 'dug it out' on Monday. There is no conspiracy here Im afraid.

You are spot on, the UEFA website does indeed show that. My bad, thanks for the correction, I'll read more carefully in future. =)

Although, someone should tell the BBC website, as they have the draw down as Thursday 30th August!
