wonderful team spirit shown by the gunners ...will take some beating this year

Who is the scouse pimp on Setanta with the beige suit, sittng next Petit?
-
Any win is a good win today. 1 nil is as good as 5 nil for our purpose. I don't believe it will be easy. Gretna will treat this as a cup tie. I expect to be hearing the usual complaints about how poor we are playing and Wednesday night's performance to be treated as an aberration.
Hope I'm wrong and it's 8:0 but I will predict 2:0 at best. Time for our fans to do us proud again.

nothin like 4 or 5 days anti celtic media coverage

Steve Mc. Manaman, scorer of that wonder equaliser for L'pool during Wim's time.
See, I pays to have an Old Fella knocking about the place sometimes.

Sorry, Kano, spelling not so good these days
-
Prediction
Gretna 0 Celtic 10
-
wouldn't be too surprised (almost expect) to see Gretna score ... interested as to how our midfield will start ... let's say 3 - 1 to the Hoops.
-
todays cheeky wee double: Bolton to do chelski and Celtic to win by two...
-
..or more...
-
Tom the Tim,
it won't be very often you hear this, but that is one guy who looked better with a perm and football strip on.
Wasn't wonderful,(know what you mean)it was heartbreaking.
Do what I do,say you aren't a very good typist,and the spelling doesn't matter.
-
I'm sure we will score 3 or more, but can we keep that elusive clean sheet?
-
I will go for Celtic to set a new SPL scoring record today. We must get that goals difference way up high.

or switch back to caldwell at death star?
hmmmmmmm
-
Is it not about time for Bhoy Molloy to come in and criticise the line up?
-
Would like to see us with 3 at the back today.
Don't think we will, but would be good to see how we go.
Why not.
-
i reckon wgs thinks hartley the in form player
can play anywhere at the moment, so sticks him
in at right back
forgetting about how good he's been in the holding role, hope that doesn't have an effect.
-
Paul67.
Paul I'm not up to predicting scores, but I hope Celtic keeps a clean sheet, and score a few goals.
I'd like to congratulate Hibs on going to the top of the league for a day,but I think it's a false dawn for them.
Remember they took three points from Celtic after we came off an away game in Europe, and they also took three points from Rangers, also coming from an away game in Europe,I doubt if Hibs would have beaten us if we had'nt been playing the European game, probably would have beaten Rangers anyway.

Poor show so far. We've not been able to get the ball down and play.

can aiden not just beat three people and then pass it?

this is ike a training game, exept for all the injuries

caldwell needs to learn how to pass aswell .....to a celtic player
this is poor ghuys
-
Think we need a Gretna goal to spark some life into this game ...
-
McGeady may be playing on the right, but he still wants to come inside rather than take on the full back and get to the by line.
-
this needs a spark
passing and possession guff

gretna free kick and its 1 - 0 to gretna

Gretna goal from free kick. Over the wall and Boruc watched it go in.

This performance so far is a total disgrace. Backsides need kicking all round.
-
naylor cross - woeful - no change there then
-
abysmal by artur. just stood and watched - could have saved it easily - shot was neither well struck or near the corner. maybe the sun put him off.
-
the last two crosses from each full back resembled rugby up and unders poor poor football
-
Boruc is looking decidedly mortal these days.
And that position up front occupied by Hesselink and now Killen seems to be the sporting equivalent of the Bermuda triangle, whoever plays there disappears for 90 minutes.
-
free kick naka time ??/please

Riordan Time!
Give Riordan a chance...he will win the game!
Kojo.
-
dreadful more of a looping floater
sums our performance imo
-
1 - 0 down at half time. And as poor a performance as I can remember. Gretna are not a good side, but a hard working one. We need to impose ourselves on the game in midfield and create chances. Their keeper has been a spectator so far.
-
So far so abysmal.
We look uninterested and arrogant in our play.
Performances like this are why people get on Aiden's back- showboating fairydancer.
Only MacDonald exempt from criticism.
-
celtic fans in a state of shock after a dire first half
performance, which beggars beleif after wednesday
- funny old game.
boruc looked well at fault brown and donati non existent, lets hope its a game of two halves
shocked to the core at how ordinary we look
-
Naka needs a rest - when he plays like this its like being a man down. In saying that the last time I said that he then scored a hat trick.
-
no real structure to our game ... seems as tho Naka and Aiden are playing on the same wing!
Brown and Donati are very quiet, again.
Need someone to impose themselves on the game ... should start with GS in the dressing room.
-
Looking really flat.
Quite quiet game,no cohesion.
Naka and Aiden look like me playing and Scott Brown and Massimo Donati, look like they are in different teams to each other.
Killen very ineffective so far,and Scott McDonald pretty anonymous.
Defence more or less coping with most thrown at them.
Big Artur strangely stuck to the spot at the goal.
Emdy know if the big man likes a bet?
One other chance for Gretna apart from the goal.
We have had a few openings, but not any clear cut chances.
See what happens after the tea cups
-
donati off..riordan on.
-
The big kick and a rush... is out!
The game will be won in the Flanks!
By-line,Byline,Byline!
Riordan will win the match!

-
half time
as bad a performance as i have ever witnessed
completely incompetent , disinterested
they need a rocket
boruc ..imo at fault for the goal ..again
naylor ..a few wayward crosses but at least he`s trying
caldwell(RB)..can`t overlap or pass or cross ..after wed reverting to type
mick..so so
donati..when`s he coming on
brown..as above
naka ..as above
mcgeady..back to his infuriating best ..has to play the easy ball
killen ...shadow of the hibs player of last year ..poor touch can`t hold the ball up
macdonald ..effort can`t be faulted but he needs hand
JK..so so
this is not mineshaft driven criticism it really is awful ghuys
-
I predicted a struggle but it's poorer than I thought. There's 22 players out there who look like they've never seen the sun before. We'll have to work hard for 2:1. Riordan is not the saviour some think he is but today might be a good day for his accurate long range shooting. If I was gambling, I might go for Jim O'Brien to get a better delivery from the wings. Killen's actually quite good in the air but you wouldn't know it from the servvice he's received.
-
so ineffective in the middle to front need a spark from somewhere as I said earlier any winnnig result will do
all we are saying is give us a goal
-
Dear oh dear, Turgid stuff today. We have no leader on the park. Midfield is woeful especially Brown! Aiden back to his worst, greedy and poor decisions! Maybe should move him back to the left or take Naka off and bring on Riordan.
Looks like Artur boobed again. I'd take Killen and Aiden off and bring on Magic and possibly Jiri for Donati or Brown.
The team needs freshened up and the passing speeded up and then maybe we will tire out Gretna and get some space and a few goals.
Maybe just a good old fashioned bollocking from WGS is needed.
-
Dear, oh dear. Too many of them once again believing their own publicity.
I appreciate they may be tired after Wednesday, but what's Killen's excuse? He looks deadful.
-
Just as Wednesday was brilliant this is utterly abysmal.
Worst 45 minutes I have ever seen from Celtic in 50 years of watching them.
Why is it that Strachan can't motivate the side against inferior sides.
This is worse than Clyde or Artmedia.
Ten years ago I watched Gretna play Whitley Bay. They are not a good side but we are arrogant, lazy and half-paced.
Time to bring in Brown for Boruc that is four howlers he has let in.
The wall simply wasn't organised. Too far to Boruc's right.
If we don't improve 100 per cent in the second half we will have handed Rangers a massive reprieve....
And totally embarrassed ourselves. Please Celtic play for the jersey in the second half.
-
Difficult to know how to change this- personnel on the pitch ought to be good enough.
Major attitude adjustment required.
-
It's a change in attitude that's needed not a change in personnel. The team on the park should be more than capable of winning this match from here.
-
Sean South
The players are not trained dogs. They should be able to adjust their own attitude and get their game head on, no matter who we're playing. We might have a young team but none of them are babies who need Daddy Strachan to do their thinking for them. Gordon can and will use subs if there's no immediate improvement. We only have 2 left now, mind you.
-
aiden and naka changed wings
killen off for me put JJ up front at least he can play football
after missing few sitters in last games he has been trully awful today
caldwell limping ...right back curse ...surely not
-
Looks like Jim O'Brien is being readied to come on.
-
Byeline,Byline,Byeline!
Kojo
-
Boruc will have the sun in his eyes second half. I wonder if the rules on keeper's headwear is restricted to baseball caps. If not I'd like to see Boruc don a cowboy hat, or maybe a fez.
Best of all though would be one of those stripey caps with the propellor on top, favoured by american college kids.
-
Donati high and wide from a good position
-
Donati wide again great chance
-
donati spurns two chances in two mins
neither on target
-
Celtic 0 Dundee Utd 3 first half 26/10/85, just one random example of a half far worse than the one just watched.
Sean South we get it....you don't like Gordon Strachan, but please just shut it. You have nothing meaningful to contribute. The hyperbole of your most recent garbage just proves that.
Try supporting the team. Others have accused you of being a secret rangers supoporter etc, and I know not whether hat si the case but you are not a Celtic supporter. You're a Celtic detractor.
By the way for the record I'm neither a Paul/CQN or Board apologist, but i do support my team through thick and thin
-
free kick .please naka

Wild challenge on McDonald by Murray. Should have been red.
-
same as the other one
shocking tackle on wee scott

Off the line from the free kick. Pressure building.

at last some good attacking play. dreadful tackle by murray, a definite red.

2 Gretna players booked- one of them looked like murray- hasn't he already been booked?
-
murray already booked according to beeb
-
Only mcdonald getting pass marks so far. The rest playing like a pub team.
-
cowan and barr booked
-
Cowan and Barr booked there - not Murray.
-
jim obrien to come on
needs to bring on deek as well
you can take all of them off other than wee scott imo
-
our passing is absolutely utterly indescribably abysmal.
-
pass the ball mcgeady ya bam
hopeless
-
O'Brien on for Kennedy.
-
italiabhoy
it`s worse than that
-
jim o'brien on for kennedy, who himself was a sub.
all starting to look a bit shambolic.
-
I watched the arsenal v sunderland game earlier, watching Liam Miller I was reminded how lucky we were that he's no longer at Celtic. He held on to the ball too long, trying to beat one too many men. And the times when he did pass it more often than not it was a hospital ball that played his teammate into trouble.
Sounds just like Aiden McGeady today. Two players who had and have (respectively) huge potential.
I hope I'm not watching McGeady doing exactly the same at sunderland in 4 years time.
-
I blame the awful color of the strips. Well, there must be some reason for so many misplaced passes.
-
This is as bad a performance as I've ever seen in the modern celtic era. Worse than ICT, worse than Clyde, worse than Artmedia.
-
Jarisec on for Donati
-
we look like we've given up. unacceptable.
jarosik on for final sub.
riordan's celtic career now officially over.
-
jj on for last ten
should have been on 30 mins ago and fot killen

agree re riordan
if he can`t get a gane when aiden and naka are playing as badly as this then he has no chance

O'Brien as on as RB!!
How long do you have to think about a situation before you can select an option that you are sure is the least inspired and most asinine?
Please don't correlate the end result to the change. Appalling stuff, glad of the points
-
2 -1 final.
6 in 4 games for Scott McDonald.
Same result as Wednesday but the performance was as poor as we were good against Milan. Still, winning playing badly is the habit of Champions.
Another away win in our next game will do nicely!
-
That's why we're Champions!
Barely deserve it mind! ;-)
Skippy will be SPL top scorer this season.
TTTT
-
We are Celtic!
-
utterly undeserved, but we'll take it!
that's why we are ....
CHAMPIONS!!!!
-
Of course the only downer on this is that Scott McDonald ruined my full time joke.
I was going to say the mark of champions is to play badly and still win. And we played terribly, so we're half way there!
-
Never doubted it!
-
Phew!
-
Three points in the bag, but not a particularly good day at the office. The never say die attitude of this team though is one of it's best qualities.
For the "worst performance in 50 years," "worse than Artmedia," brigade please give us peace.
A poor performance no denying it, but if a Championship takes skill, quality football and goals, then it also takes some grinding and a fair share of luck. We got some of the latter today. Enjoy.
Beat the European Champions and move clear at the top of the league. That's a good week in my book.
Come on the hoops!
-
the sound of weeping and gnashing of teeth from snake mountain is audiable even this far south
the rending of clothing amoungst the great unwashed will result in a bumper day for primark tomorrow
a really bad game , but
ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL
wouldn`t have been this happy if we`d strolled it 5 0
it`s games like this that win leagues ...ask the huns
-
Very few players get pass marks today but we got the result and are back on top. To score two late goals after Wednesday's energy sapping performance is terrific.
But the performance was poor, very poor. The international break will hopefully allow us to regroup before our next match.
I said before the season started that my two early objectives were to get into the group stages of the CL and to be ahead of Rangers going into the 20/10 game. Mission accomplished, but only just.
-
How can we play as bad as that?
Are we thinking we've just beaten ACMilan so Gretna will be no problem?
Only human?
We're top of the league again, but I don't think we deserved the 3 points this afternoon.
Looking forward to next week.
-
Dear Sean South,
imagine winning while still managing to play “the worst game of football in 50 years”!
Hail Hail!
-
Lhads I think I may gave to take some credit for the victory.
After Massimo was subbed I decided to turn off Channel 67. Turned it on when I thought the game would be finished and realised we had equalised, so quickly shut the computer down again, knowing that if I did we would surely score again. Knew it would work.
Good to see our striker scoring again. When was the last time we had a front man scoring in 4 games in succession?
-
Beijing Celt
Couldn't agree more. That's what makes the difference between being Champions and being also rans,
There was no doubt that Gordon had a go at half time. Attitude 2nd half was totally different.
Jiri did not look to me like a guy ready to go just yet. I hope I'm right.
Now I'm away again to enjoy the glum faces in the Setanta studio.
-
can anyone please explain just why wee scott was booked
he celebrated in front of his own fans , didn`t leave the field of play nor take his shirt off ..confused
-
Scott Booth was right - a get out of jail card played. We did not deserve the win today but we'll take it because there will be days where we won't get our dues.
Nowhere near the worst performance in 50 years but still unacceptable whether you apply hyperbole or perspective.
In 13 days time, it will be forgotten when we visit Edward's mob with a 3 point lead over them. I feel safe in asserting that we will not play as poorly as that when we go there. Let's get the first goal on the scoreboard anyway.
BTW, John Galt, If bringing Jim O'Brien on was an asinine decision then I'm an ass too. Having a defensive RB is fairly unimportant in your list of priorities when you're 1:0 down with 10 minutes to go.
-
Have you ever felt better after such a poor Celtic display.
Cats, Dugs, Wifes all over Hundom would have been volleyed at time up.
Sweet revenge for Scott McDonald after that shocking tackle GIRFUY murray.
-
We won and I'm delighted.
But lets not let two late goals disguise the awfulness of that performance. Only McDonald and late sub O'Brien get pass marks. The rest- appalling.
On the plus side, we are clear at the top, the Huns will be raging, and at last it looks like we have a goalscorer in McDonald.
-
pfayr
He scored, what more reason is needed.
It seems to be the immediate punishment for any Celtic player who has the audacity to do this.
Funny how he wasn't booked on Wednesday for celebrating, isn't it?
-
Nobody's pretending this was good at all but please...
'Worst 45 minutes I have ever seen from Celtic in 50 years of watching them.
Why is it that Strachan can't motivate the side against inferior sides.
This is worse than Clyde or Artmedia.'
Have a good listen to yerself man. I really will just have to ignore completely some posters here.
Well done Gordon and the bhoys - important three points after the thrills of midweek.
-
why so glum on setanta
terry almost as good as sonsoferin`s hat joke
mind i feel so good i`d laugh at anything
think i may have a beer , perhaps another , a bootle of chianti , some vodka ...yeeehaa
-
We were shockin, but it's very useful to have Gerd Muller McDonald in our team...! Took a potential legbreaker, worked it off and cool as you needed, scored the winner.
TFFTCSC
-
Dont give me this undeserved nonsense. We did not play well but look at the match stats. 59% possesion against 41% and 8 shots on target against 2 including a fantastic clearance under the bar. We were camped in their last third for the second half but our final pass was not up to the mark today. The win was deserved in my view. The ref was also less than helpful. The Murray tackle on McDonald deserved a straight red. Compare with the one which saw Alan Thompson dismissed at Ibrox for example. Also no foul when Nakamura is brought down from behind with the defender making no contact with the ball and a coupke of minutes later a foul against McGeady when he nudges the ball away from the opposition from behind. This was going on throughout the game.
-
Those are the games where championships can be lost. I never expected for a minute that today would be a stroll in the park-- we had it all to lose and nothing really to gain today, with a European hangover, and against the worst team in the SPL.
The currant buns must be sick. Even if they were to get a flukey result against us at the hatedome, they'd still be second or third in the table. Yaas!
-
Quite right Terry. That was a scared ref today. I think he is still suffering from the decision to send off a Dundee Utd; defender who did not deserve it.
Murray's tackle on Scott was a textbook straight red and probably worthy of a police charge too (yes it's hyperbole, but maybe for comic effect, though I'm not laughing).
To add to my ire, Murray then made a saving tackle on Gary Caldwell when the ball broke to him in a goalmouth stramash.
I hope it's like the Scottish football playing scene and there's a better standard of ref coming through at a younger level. I don't want to suffer incompetents like Winter and Brines. I'd rather have the Clarks and Dougals; they're a bit more predictable.
-
setanta rattling on about gretna`s astounding wonderful performance
i din`t see much of that i thought we were just guff
couldn`t pass ... not very good
-
shocking display
great result
-
Poor game for us
and a very poor referee who looked as if he could not handle a junior game never mind a Gretna Celtic tie. His decisions, when made, were late and looked more deliberative than reactive. He acted without any sense of consistency.
just saw the league there on Sultana and hey it makes for good reading even if we did not make for good watching.
Fair dos to Gretna, although I can't go so far as to say unlucky.
WG when/if you read this - had to take a rain check on this afternoon, sorry mate.

-
I've been a big fan and don't really like knocking any Celtic player but today was the worst I've seen Naylor play.
Everything he did was rank bad. Positionally poor, passing dreadful, crossing shocking and tackling weak(unusual for him I agree but today!!!).We can't blame Aiden since his backtracking today was all he did that was noteworthy and Gretna didn't do much down our left flank.
I'm convinced the lad is knackered, maybe has some personal family problems, is not 100% fit who knows but he badly needs a rest.Doubt if he'll get it though since we have NO ONE to replace him.
Losing Paul Hartley today was a blow and I'm sure we will miss him especially on the 20 Oct at Mordor.
-
Hold back the criticism, according to GS the ball was a egg and the pitch was bumpy. Phew!
-
we've just set high standards for ourself ... and were well below that today - all through the team!
there wasn't any phase of that game were we played the way we all know we can.
Bad day at the office guys - won the 3 points tho'.
-
timmoot
i agree about lee naylor, something has been wrong with him for a long long time. he managed to raise his game in midweek, but today he was back to what i would call normal.
sadly, i am not convinced it is a rest he needs.
-
As good as we were on Wednesday we were every bit as bad today. However, we won and that's the main thing. After the last Champions League game we played better at Easter Road and lost so I'll take that feeling today over that.
-
Man,those FollowFollowers are hurtin' real bad just now.......
Good.
-
At 07/10/07 14:46, Kano said…
Is it not about time for Bhoy Molloy to come in and criticise the line up?
Sorry to disappoint Kano. I think Strachan got the staring line up spot on. In fact it is the one I had in mind for Milan with Doumbe at right back of course.
No gripes with Strachan today at all. Today was all about under performing players as we know man for man we are streets ahead of Gretna.
-
Bhoy Molloy
You're a thrawn one right enough! :-)
Your usual views (WGS apart) could have been reciprocated today about our underperforming players.
Do you only like to have one person in your foxhole?
-
It's been said...awful awful team performance but three points registered. Phew indeed.
For me, no need to analyse to death the degrees of awfulness in some performances. Players were poor, they know it. Eight days, three wins, 7 goals (5 for Skippy), 2 conceded.
Huns two league games in same period were 1 draw and 1 defeat, 1 goal for and 2 against.
We're top by 3 points and +7 goals. They're third. Know what I'd prefer heading to the death star.
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED !!
Onwards and upwards to three in a row.
Big Wavy
-
I thought Chris Killen has a very good second half today. He held up the ball much better and set up Donati brilliantly who should have at least hit the target, he caused a lot of problems in the air in the box when we pressed more and he got the much needed equaliser.
I'm sure Wee Scott's yellow was for emphasising to all the Tic fans that he is definately a Tim.
The ref definately got the message and didn't like it .His decision to give a yellow instead of a straight red to Murray for his diabolical tackle on Scott was cowardice and downright cheating. Shouldn't the club be questioning the supervisor's report when they get their copy. Maybe when they read the outraged sportswriters comments on the horror tackle they will be forced into it,,,,,,,,,,,,,As If???
-
timmoot
i`m naylors biggest critic , but how you could single him out amongst that rabble i don`t know
boruc costs us another goal
caldwell passes worse than naylor and his crosses were no better
aiden was appalling ..running up his own backside and failing to make the obvious pass
donati misplaced more passes than he placed
brown hardly know he`s was playing
naylor wasn`t good but he had a lot of company today
-
Jim O`Brien for right back
thought i heard WGS say he wanted to give him some time on the pitch in that position

The Abbot is right about Scott McDonald. To take a tackle like that and then hit the opposition where it hurts most in return takes courage and class.
Looks deceive. Scott McDonald is really eight feet three.

We should not pick anyone at RB.
The position's cursed, I tells ya.
Paul Telfer passed on the black spot when he left and they're dropping like flies. Let's call it the Dextral Defensive position and try and fool the gods.
P.S.- It looks like we've already got a top 6 split in the fixtures for weekend of 20th and 21st October. Some cracking games there. I was hoping Dundee Utd; could knock the dark side to 4th but they're at Tynecastle unfortunately.

Today was Anzac day at Firpark.
Skippy to the rescue when Celtic were stuck down the Well.
Think I'll search for an outergarment.
-
Shades of memories of fir park 2005 , putrid diabolical football. Not one player performed above a 3 out of 10 and Boruc needs a word about his mistake again.
I muttered to myself earlier about hating fir park , a voice behind me in the pub said " Don't worry , the fir park devil is playing on our side" , how right he turned out to be. That win and Skippy's goal could be an important milestone in this season's title race. One of our teams worst performances in years.
Bhoy_Molloy ,
100% correct my good man. Gordon Strachan can only do som much and then ultimately its up to the players. They were poor , very poor but Gordon to his credit stuck to his guns. it would have been very easy to take of Killen and Skippy or Nakamura or McGeady but he kept them all on and things fell for us. The first goal came from a throw in by Jim O'brien. So the tactical chips added up so Gordon Strachan deserves some merit.
Fair play to gretna , didn't water the pitch and kicked the ball up in the air all day. They should have had a guy sent off for a tackle on Skippy.
At least we've been brought back to reality with that grinding win and know that anywhere near a performance is unacceptable for the rest of the season particularly at ibrox in 2 weeks.
It could be worse you could be a rangers fan ;-)))))))
-
My blood pressures come down just about enough now to post.
Yes we were poor in most respects , particularly our passing and final ball ,but... we won.
I'm as critical as anyone else when the games being played but were not in the business of producing aesthetically pleasing works of art but results.
We got where we wanted, needed, to be and I for one don't care if we didn't take the scenic route -- as the pilots say -- theres no such thing as a bad landing.
I've said before I've had my fill over the years of playing beautiful stuff and winning nothing.
This week we've :-
beaten the european champions in the CL
seen the Gers lose AT HOME and
won AWAY to go top of the League again and improve our goal difference.
Call me unambitious but I'll take that any time you like.

The bloggera that gave us "lazy journalism" and "Celtic to be investigated by UEFA" - yeah, you eventually got that right, wanabee- now demonstrate that they can't even read a sentence.
For those incapable of understanding English I said that was the worst 45 MINUTES I have seen Celtic play in watching them for 50 years.
That was a subjective opinion- which is yours to disagree with- that I stand by. Why else have a blog?
Thank God we got of jail in the last 5 minutes.

as far as i know and i'm no expert, you just put it somewhere on your website/blog and spambots or email harvesters that come onto your site searching for email addresses (they click every link on a site havesting email addresses for spamming and moving to the linked pages searching endlessly) will be fed junk/fake email addresses and links to an endless loop of junk/fake email addresses where they will be rendered impotent and cant spam anyone.

Did you see the Gretna defender's reaction as Skippy received the ball for the final goal. I've never seen faster reactions. As he realised his mistake in playing him onside, his head was in his hands and he'd dropped to his haunches before Skippy had even hit the ball for goal.
How would our fans feel if that was Naylor and the keeper got a better hand on the shot leaving a chase on for the rebound?
-
With Hartlet out for a few weeks, Could Jiri about to get his favoured defensive midfield role?
-
Strachan didn't like the phrase midweek but today the result was what mattered not the performance.
This was an abject performance from celtic but we managed to win and in a vital weekend.
Strachan is not stupid he knows some players are underperforming and he now has the international week to get them sorted.
I agree losing hartley will hurt at mordor.
It's counterproductive pointing fingers, apart from mcdonald the team was very very poor infact some of them don't deserve the cash this week. Hey ho another 3 points and top of the league so it ain't all bad.
All credit to strachan at least we attacked until the end

GweedoreBhoy-
Well said.
Lay off the happy pills.
-
Today was a classic case of a poor team drawing a better team down to their level.
A combination of throwing themselves at every Celtic player who had the ball and a bumpy sticky, unwatered pitch, contributed to a disjointed unrecognisable Celtic performance.
Add in Boruc's Booster, which gave them something to hang on to and it was always going to be tough.
However, one thing that cannot be criticised is those boys' spirit and fitness. I salute them.
Finally, due to Boy Molloy's sensible, considered post match comments, I am reinstating his "H".
It's all yours Bhoy, but be careful with it.

SS "worst FH performance in 50yrs"?
I only have half your experience but as much as today was woeful
Xamax 1-4 (FH) was lots worst,
as were many performances first and second half between 1989 and 1997!
We got out of jail today no doubt about it but if we can't cut them (the players) some slack a few days after beating Milan then there is no point us being supporters!
Speaking of Milan have they played yet? Was Dida playing? I hope he is.
-
Relieved, mightily so, if truth be told. Playing against a team who had 1 shot at goal (good goal though it was, it was never a free kick) and then kicked everything, especially wee Grady (how many of our team did he huckle all by his lonesome?), we eventually won. MacDonald certainly deserved his goal. Their captain should have be been red carded for an atrocious tackle on him.
Here's hoping Hartley is ready for Ibrox( never thought I'd say that a couple of months ago). Doubt it all the same. Have we any right-footed defenders left? How is Caldwell? He looked as if he had taken a really sore one.
Great victory if poor poor game. I'll settle for that.

I've still got a red face taking the points..but we will nevertheless.
I wish I could say Champion teams grind out a result but this wasnt even at that level.
This fixture though was always a banana skin potential. I'll take the Get-out-of-jail conclusion and the 3 points and look forward. Aint worth the trouble trying to analyze this one.
-
Oh, definitely not the worst performance in the last 50 years, not even in the last 10. There were plenty worse in the late 50s, early 60s and the whole 90s. Only my opinion, of course.
-
Get up at 6, shower, cup of tea and then head off to work. Keep the mobile off and settle down to "watch" the game on CQN. Boy was that a nerve-racking read !!!! Apparently, the worst Celtic performance in 50 years !!! Who cares ??? All's well that ends well and I'll take any win after the exertions of Wednesday night. That my dear fellow, is why we're champions and long may it continue.
A timely time for a wee rest and it's on to the house of the undead for the biggest match of the season so far. European success is great, but we must win this league at all costs.
BTW, be ready for the worst, most biased, most incompetent MIB performance of your lifetime. Remember where you read it first.
And finally, thanx Paul for this wonderful platform and thanks to all (well most of you !!) who contributed during the game.

How the heck can Boruc be at fault for the Gretna goal. He lined up the wall, covered the other side and the actual kick was excellent, right in at the post.
I can't think of a keeper who would have saved it.
-
No need for any red faces about taking the points.
If Hibs had beaten Gretna with two late goals, we'd have said: "Fair play to them, they're on a great run." And we'd have been right.
Celtic deserve the same credit.

Jiri changed the shape of things when he came on, though even then I could not see where the goals would come from.
Well done to Chris Killen, an excellent goal under pressure.
Well done also to Scott McDonald. A great striker’s goal.
We have seen games like this after a great Euro result many times, Inverness after Liverpool springs to mind, but it was a great three points to get. Pennies will have dropped all over Scotland on how was going to win the league again.
I was sitting among the Gretna fans today, an excellent bunch, even when we stole the points.

"The worst in 50 years" has to have been a defeat. For example, I saw Dundee beat us 5-1 at Dens in 1980, Rangers beat us 4-2 and 3-0 at Paradise and 2-0 at the dome when we did not deserve to win a throw-in!
The worst win in 50 years, maybe...but there's been a few of those as well.
Worst, schmurst...here's to injuries clearing up, here's to our brilliant manager and here's to 3-in-a-row.

I could say that I am shocked by some of the comments and the reaction of some posters, but I am not.
Infact I am well used to it by now.
We drew our opening game of the season some 9 weeks ago and our south side friends were sitting pretty atop of the pile.
There was talk on Radio Scotland of them creating a new season opening record of more than 8 consecutive victories.
Nine weeks later we are clear at the top and the south siders are sitting third.
Even if we were to lose our next league game, they still would be no better of than SECOND.
During that 9 week period we have scored more goals than antbody else, lost less goals than anybody else and played better football than anybody else.
What a shameful day for our club and its supporters when a hard fought for victory is so ridiculed and debased.
I honestly despair for some of our supporters.
As Paul67 has already said, we were amongst the Gretna fans today and never did we feel in any way threatened.
Nor did we hear one anti Celtic Chant, nor any sectarian songs.
When we scored our second goal we were very much aware of being the only people in the stand on our feet and cheering, it was actually quite eerie, but there was no fear of the Gretna support.
As for the Gretna players I thought they played as if they were men possessed.
They hunted and harried in packs but they created nothing during the 93 minutes, except for their free kick.
A set peice was the ONLY way they were ever going to score.
STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONS ELECT.

MILAN - Happy birthday to Nelson Dida: the Brazilian goalkeeper, born on 7 October 1973, celebrates his birthday today. For this important event, the Milan squad, who are in Rome for the match against Lazio (tonight's Serie A match), gave him an applause before the morning training.
Milan currently 3-1 up in Rome (v Lazio).

MILAN - Celtic faced Gretna away from home this afternoon, for the 9th matchday of the Scottish Premier League. Strachan's team came back to win 2-1. After going behind in the 37th minute to a goal by Yantorno, Milan's euro-rivals first tied the match with Killen (86'), then took the lead in the 90th minute through McDonald, who had also scored against the Rossoneri at the last minute in the Champions League. | |

Good article from Anna Smith of the Sunday Mirror, courtesy of Celticminded.....
Tell them to prod off
07/10/2007
JUST when we thought the "best little country" in the world was tackling its sectarian demons, we're dragged back into the swamp.
Not by a bunch of football fans showing us up as Neanderthals. No, folks. It's not Rangers fans who are singing The Sash. Or Celtic fans chanting support for the IRA. Take a bow MSP Karen Gillon, who admits she's enjoyed belting out the Ulstermen's anthem and says it's important for people to defend their heritage.
I don't know what's worse. Her singing The Sash or being stupid enough to admit it publicly. More of her later. But she's not the only one who's opened her trap before her brain was in gear. The new man in the hot seat of the SFA, former Rangers player Gordon Smith, waxes lyrical in a new book claiming Scotland's sectarian problems are caused byCatholic schools, Tell me.
What qualifies a man who has played football all his life to make comments like that? Where has he done his research on the problems in Scottish society?
On the terraces of Ibrox where they are up to their knees in Fenian blood? In the dressing room at Rangers in an era where they pointblank refused to sign a Catholic?
This is the man in charge of Scottish football. He is supposed to deal with sectarianism. But he's shown his true colours - and I don't just mean his dodgy hair dye.
Recalling how growing up playing school football in Ayrshire shaped his grown-up views, he declares: "We played against schools with names like St Mary's or St Peter's and the games were very competitive.
When you are competitive with someone you automatically think they are the enemy. That was the case with me."
That must have got him nicely wound up for years of playing in the cauldron of hate that is an Old Firm match.
The rest of us, with half a brain, grew up to see the bigotry for what it was. I don't suppose the thousands who march with bowler hats and white gloves during July have anyanything to do with it. No. I thought not, Gordon. Just the Catholic schools.
But what really annoys me about comments like this is that they are coming from someone with the ability to change things.
And how can he, if his mind is made up already about what caused the problem? I'm the first person to criticise the Catholic church for its misdemeanours down the years. But if Gordon had ever lived outside his football boots, he might have discovered that there's a bit of history attached to the story behind Catholic schools.
Firstly, it's in the statute books - the 1918 Education Scotland Act ensured the right to a Catholic education so that kids who had been discriminated against could be treated as equal to non-Catholics. I went to a Catholic school - and if you had come out with anything sectarian you would have been slapped up and down the class by a teacher.
Gordon's arguments belong in the bar room and not in the halls of the SFA.
As for Karen Gillon. What makes her think she can represent all the people in her constituency when she says she defends the singing of The Sash? The get-out-of-jail card that she is married to a Catholic doesn't wash. She would deny she is a bigot, but if nothing else it displays a mind too small to represent me.
Both should be shown the door.

Sean South, you realy are a tosser!
Worst performance in 50 years? Surely you are forgetting some other Strachan Classics like Clyde or Artmedia. Obviously no other manager could have presided over a worse performance. Where were you when Barnes & macari were manager? Did you avert your eyes? We were rubbish today, no doubt, but the claptrap you come out with is astonishing. Go on try being positive one day, you might like it!

Pablo, that is what, ultimately will continue to break our hearts.
That those put in the position to change things, with the capability to change things... Wont.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall at the interview... And he has been transparent since his induction.

No need to repeat how poor we played in the first 85 mins as it's been done to death.
In my view, I think Jiri Jarosik's introduction today changed the game. He was far more effective than Donati, whose distribution and influence in recent games has been dissapointing. (I expect this to change when he has settled in).
Jarosik has had a very good game vs Milan and changed the game today. He deserves a chance when others are underperforming. I think a midfield of Brown, Jarosik, Donati and Naka (or McGeady) would be a good shout for the raingers game.
Lubo.
-
Hi Pabs
He is a cheat - simple as that.
I'm gonnae keep at him.
Hope you are well.
-
Looks like big Jarosik will have a much bigger role to play than probably all of us thought in August. The guy is a player, it's the effort that seems to be lacking sometimes though I'm not sure how much it's his demeanour that makes it look worse.
Anyways, we all know it wan't great but we are out in front and I expect us to remain there.
A win at Ibrox in a fortnight and I feel they'll collapse. Possibly put them fourth. Would be interesting if it happened to compare with where they were at this time last year under PLG!
HAIL! HAIL!

That AC Milan team is truly past it, eh?
A 5:1 win away to Lazio, a Champions League outfit themselves.
When we bemoan our poor CL away record, we should reflect on those 5:0 and 7:1 defeats that can be handed out by elite CL teams. We have not suffered them (Artmedia were not elite).
I live in fear of one of these results. If it hapened to Sir Alex or Arsene or Benitez, they would survive. I'm not sure, a significant percentage of our suport would grant WGS the chance to make amends.
We have built up his results against Artmedia away and Clyde aaway into some sort of disaster period for Celtic. Throughout our history we have had bad results. Cup defeats to ICT, Falkirk and Raith in recent years were every bit as bad. European defeats to Neuchatel and Timisaora spring to mind. Our post war team was very poor until the mid 60's. Our teams through Rangers 9iar let us down constantly.
We are not yet in a golden period but we're, at least, in a silver one. 3 league titles in a row coupled with 2 CL group stage respectable performances should ensure that all talk of worst ever is banished.
We love the Lisbon Lions so much that our memories are now better than the actual events. There were many days when we struggled against Stirling Albions and St. Johnstones. The idea that we turned up every Saturday and won except for the odd match against our main rivals is a blatant example of false memory syndrome.
It is difficult to compare the different eras anyway. The Bosman ruling, big teams drawing their support from wider geographical areas, percentage of foreign players, and, most importantly, increased wealth disparities between major leagues and the rest, have all distorted our power to compare.
We need a perspective about where we are. Completing the first 3iar since Big Jock should do away with some of the nonsense from the sack Strachan brigade.

Should we offer JVoH as a swap for Heerenveen's Afonso Alves to play up front alongside Skippy?
Skippy has notched up 6 goals in his last 4 games. But that's rubbish! Alves scored a hat-trick in 9 first half minutes in the Dutch 1st Division today... then came out after the break and scored another four in 8 second half minutes. Or all told that was 7 goals in 66 elapsed minutes!.
This happened in Holland today!

Another break for international games.
Good thing or bad?
Discuss.

sftb, couldn't agree more and let's not forget the Scottish Cup lost to the Jags and there were a lot of LL's in that team. I also agree about the backlash GS would suffer if wee get a humpin. TBH, I thought it might've been on Wednesday because of our recent form, but like Celtic do again and again, they turned it up a notch and delivered. I just know that all the anti GS brigade have there comments already written and stored for the next big fall, whenever and wherever that may be.

I thought it was an exceptionally poor performance today. We seem to have a problem playing against lower standard teams, particularly after playing top teams like AC Milan. That should not be an exscuse. We are paying top wages to these players and expect 100% effort in return. I'm glad to see Jarosik coming back into the frame and he seems to have learned the lesson that laziness will not be tolerated be WGS.
I'm coming to the unpalatable conclusion that playing McGeady and Nakamura on the same team is too costly. Leaving only Donati and Brown as genuine midfielders, as opposed to old style inside forwards/wingers has left us exposed this season. Compare the control we had with Hartley playing a midfield role against Milan and you see what I mean. I'm not happy with this conclusion because I am an admirer of both McGeady and Naka. The break for the internationals is coming at just the right time to give the Bhoys time to re-focus.
-
C_F,
Normally I dislike the international break, although it may suit us thus time.
Suits me personally as a buddy is getting married in Philadelphia next Saturday, so I can head over without missing any games!
-
BSM71, I remember the game against Partick well. 1-0 up and then collapsing to a 1-3 defeat. That game was a low point for me.
Celtic First, the break is coming at the right time for Rangers. Their league challenge is falling apart right now, though losing several players until a week on Thursday, 48 hours before facing the Champions, is not an easy return to action for them.
They have a lot of work to do and not a lot of training ground time to do it.

Thanks for that. As well as listening I thought it through.

SS cannot agree with the worst 45 mins comment I rememeber too many
Young boys/Falkirk cup final ICT/Artmedia etc but I do agree that Boruc got the wall totally wrong. However, the answer's not to replace him with Brown. He's still saved us too many times.
Can't believe the commentator on setanta stated when brown was fouled-that was the right thing to do.
What does McManus have to do to get some acknowledgement in a poor team he never put a foot wrong.
Top of the league, In the Champions League, Just beat the current European Champions and the mineshafters are still bleating. Some people have very short memories.
Thank God MON has moved on - we now have a manager not scred to change things and a team with an average age of around 24.
Let the Good times Roll.

Does anyone know why Benfica, who won 2-1 today away to Uniao Leiria, have their next league game on 28 October, three weeks away?
-
WGS has suprised us all with the inclusion of Jarosik. What has happened there. We were all resigned to losing him.Guy looks reborn!!
I reckon he will be a stick on to play at Ibrox with Brown & Donati Especially now since Paul Hartley's injury.
Only qued.stion is will WGS go with Aiden & Naka or Naka and one of the big strikers with McDonald????
I'm thinking he maybe might go with the former with Naka given a free role behind McDonald.
-
Evening bhoys - well what a week its been. I've been ensconsed in various activities that meant I couldnt post but...
Milan - fantastic - though a wee scare with the daft guy who ran on. Sense now seems to be breaking out - though you never know with UEFA and British sides.
Gretna - we were awful - but the constant ability to win from such positions is something which is clearly not a fluke.
Can we condition the players to think every minute is the last minute.
Hats of to GS - he baffles me (bringing on Jiri today!!) but he seems to get it right on most occassions.
I see Sean South was subjected to the usual barrage of abuse - isnt he allowed an opinion then?
oh and one word for the referee today - incompetent.

Jiri Jarosik was never a bad player and had several 'interventions' last season. This season, in albeit just about 95 minutes of play, he looks as if he's smelling the coffee. This will be to our great benefit, on the park, or financially if he goes in January.
Bit disappointed in Scott Brown's performance today - a wee bit too anonymous. And I'm going to defend one player, light, and stand well back. Gary Caldwell gets more right than he does wrong, but if you take the reverse pass at Dens, the deliberate placed shot on Wednesday and playing CB, then RB then CB again today he is a player who never hides. A lack of precision in the passing, of course there was, but together with our captain, and our winning goal-scorer, Caldwell epitomises the spirit, guts and strength of character in our team.
Despite the ref being the Winter of much discontent, this was this season's Clyde and we came through it and won. And there was therapy for me there today. Sitting in the east stand, generally reserved for Murderwell's most rabid, singing 'One Scott McDonald' as he notched a late winner to win 2-1. Perhaps May 2005 has been exorcised.

Thanks negative anon. The usual attacks and attackers constantly distort what I say. But that is life on CQN.
From a blog that accuses journalists of being lazy I find it incredible that so many on here simply can't read a sentence.
I DID NOT say it was the worst Celtic display in 50 years.
I said it was the worst 45 MINUTES I had ever seen from a Celtic side.
I did not see the Patrick Thistle fiasco or several others that are mentioned.
Obviously, the two very welcome goals in the last 4 minutes have removed this 90 minutes from the list of horror shows that includes Partick, Falkirk, Raith, Artmedia, Clyde etc.
Why do these people persecute me for something I did not say?
Your guess is as good as mine.
-
McGeady is a great unsung hero here, undoubtedly due to the bias slant towards young Aiden in the scoattish media. I would love to hear the crowd roaring his name at Paradise because he deserves our backing and I´m sure that is what lifts him more.
Was that conciliatory Negative Anon there earlier????
Keep on keeping on Gordon's team 3, you know how to keep the Celtic folk happy.

It is one of the quirks of human nature that people with as diverse views as yourself and myself can reach a point of agreement.
Fair play to you on your last post. Sean South can expect further disagreement and criticism of his views, as can we all, but we should strive to avoid the personal abuse.
On the point of the mental strength required to dig ourselves out of several holes, I'll take the negative stance for once. How come we constantly found ourselves one goal down before we react? To me, that is still a mental weakness.
I don't believe it's arrogance. Some of our supporters may have an arrogant view of the Gretnas of this world but I don't believe WGS, Stephen McManus and Naka take this view. Maybe it's just the youth of the team that they're not fully sure of themselves and only fear of failure drives them on. Maybe it's just a blip, reverting to last year's pattern, and there will be less of this in future.
Whatever it is, it will be absent in 13 days time. Rangers will have to play well to beat us.
My main worry is the 2 international games give opportunities for both our squad to suffer further injuries. Our boys want to play in these fixtures to earn a chance of Euro qualification and glory. Two crunch fixtures offer plenty of chances for further injury. The game on the 20th could depend on which squad loses more players to injury.
Rangers have at risk Hutton, Weir, Ferguson, Boyd and McCulloch, plus Naismith in the u-21's. We risk Boruc, Caldwell, McManus, Brown, & McGeady, plus Caddis, Cuthbert & O'Brien in the U-21's.
Ah well, top of the league should cure most ills for the next 2 weeks.

Keep posting.
We'll get used to you and you'll get used to us.
We have different temperaments but I recognise a fellow celtic fan when I hear one. You earn kudos for sticking in there.

SFTB: You have restored my faith in CQN. My opinion is that of one Celtic fan- nothing more, nothing less.
You have the vision to realize that while I may be outspoken or even a negative *****- my umber 1 love is Celtic.
-
Sean South ,
Stop claiming victim status again , its getting tiresome. You're smart enough to know why your getting replies to your postings. There's a difference between a diversity of views and peoples opinions and sheer sensationalist nonsense and most people can differentiate between the two.
You mention lazy journalism a few times but there's also lazy blogging which you've been frequently guilty of as well. As I've said before we're all Celtic supporters here , only the self proclaimed merchants of doom like yourself insist on division among the CQN community. This irks me slightly. We don't have to sing of the same hymn sheet but there's opinions and there's plain nonsense.
Today's daily subtle "dig" from your esteemed self was your posting at 18:20. which said The bloggera that gave us "lazy journalism" and "Celtic to be investigated by UEFA" - yeah, you eventually got that right, wanabee- now demonstrate that they can't even read a sentence. For those incapable of understanding English I said that was the worst 45 MINUTES I have seen Celtic play in watching them for 50 years.
Read this again and then you'll find the answer to your question at 00:15: Why do these people persecute me for something I did not say?
Always the victim?
No , mostly a perpetrator.
-
SFTB :- You said "Rangers will have to play well to beat us. " I agree with you much as I may joke at times this is a decent Celtic team. Where we probably disagree is that I feel if Rangers do play well then they will win even if Celtic play well as well. Not that I think there is any great difference between the teams more that home advantage will count. The point about possible injuries when playing for the national team is a valid one and a lot could depend on a bad tackle or twisted ankle. I hate international weeks for that reason.
-
Fell asleep for the second half.
Seems I didn't miss much apart from the two goals and the feeling of utter glee that comes with winning in the last minute.
Boo.
Games like this win us the league just as much as the 5 nillers.
In fact results like this are the best, getting them when we don't desrve them.
Hyperbole reaching the ridiculous again I see.
Sean South, please don't even consider giving up posting.

As you say, every body is entitled to thir"opinion" and has the right to post it.(You let slip a wee bit why you are constantly unhappy on here at 18.20.You poor wee soul, somebody had a wee dig at your dignified profession)
Please keep up with posting your opinions.
And please don't ever let your personal opinions get seperated from the job you do.
The sensationalist stuff is great.
It is hilarious.

If it wasn't free,I would probably pay a small fee to see it.
It really would be worth it.

Setting The Bears Free
Correct, getting on a defensive RB for the last 10 mins when losing to Gretna is not a high priority.
So Hartley and then Kennedy were attacking RB's? This was the soft underbelly of our stratagem: this was then realized by WGS 80 mins into the game and he swung into action bringing on for the first time a defensive RB propelling us forward at the speed of shi*e - is this your hypothesis? Brilliant!!! Am I missing something STBF? What is your point?

Morning all
Any thoughts on John Collins as a future Celtic manager. He seems to have a decent tactical knowledge and he's not afraid to mix it up a bit. Its always nice to see former Celts do well in managment as they may end up "home" in the future.
The farce unfolding with the right back position where any Celtic player could pop up playing there surely will be addressed in the January window.

What an embarrassment this man is......
Smith: I didn't call for Dida action
Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith insists he did not call for action to be taken against AC Milan goalkeeper Dida.
"The Italian club have been asked by UEFA to explain why Dida was carried off on a stretcher after a Celtic fan appeared to slap him on the shoulder following Scott McDonald's late winner in their Champions League clash on Wednesday.
The Brazilian goalkeeper chased the fan before theatrically falling to the ground, and later held an ice pack to his face.
Dida's actions have been criticised by Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti who admitted they were a "mistake".
But Smith, who launched a campaign against diving in Scottish football in the summer, stepped back from the calls to punish him.
"It was portrayed that I was calling for UEFA action and I wasn't," Smith said.
"We are making no moves on that to call for UEFA action from the SFA."
Celtic are likely to face a fine or possibly be forced to play behind closed doors as punishment for the security breach that allowed the pitch invasion by Robert McHendry, 27, who admitted breach of the peace in court on Friday.
And Smith praised Milan's refusal to make any more of the incident and their admission that Dida was wrong.
"I admire them for that - that shows a great degree of honesty and dignity," the former Rangers player said.
"He (Dida) looked as if he made an absolute meal of something that was minor contact.
"I think he has already been embarrassed by it in the country he is playing in."
Smith made the subject of diving and feigning injury one of his main priorities when he joined the SFA and hopes to implement retrospective punishment for the offence from January.
The subject has seen him draw criticism from the Lithuanian FA for comments he was reported to have made after Saulius Mikoliunas dived to win a penalty in his country's 3-1 defeat by Scotland.
Smith was quoted as saying that the Hearts midfielder could have reverted to actions acceptable in his homeland.
But Smith told BBC Radio Scotland: "We did not make any referral to UEFA regarding the Mikoliunas situation either.
"There are people in UEFA who deal with these things and we stepped back from it.
"In terms of what I had to say I had no regrets. I think I was slightly misquoted in some aspects but that's part of the job.
"If the Lithuanians are intent on reporting me to UEFA and getting an apology then I have no problems with that.
"Whatever I find out I am meant to have said, I will apologise for it because I don't want to say anything that other people might think was detrimental.
"I don't see how anyone can say I am accusing other countries of being more used to simulation because I am trying to stop the simulation in Scotland.
"I think it occurs in every single country that plays football."

Michael Collins, hear where you are coming from, but it was Left Back everybody was shouting about.
Think it would be good to get cover for left back.
I don't think we will have any more than one specialised cover for right or left back.
Would expect that the only way we will see another right back,is if one is signed who is deemed to be better than the two who are there,or if he can play both sides.
-
Talking of Mr Smith,
Has any action been taken against McGregor of Rangers for his assault on the Hearts player a couple of weeks ago?
You know, like the case brought against Bobo for elbowing someone,so he could be banned for a Celtic-Rangers game a few years ago.
And if no action has been instigated, where is wee Mad Vlad?
He is usually shouting his mouth off about anything and everything.
Especially when it comes to Rangers and Celtic.
-
Michael Collins, sorry,i meant to add because both right backs will be fit again(hopefully) by the time the window opens again, and I think the clamour for cover will have died down by then.

When are all these diddy teams gonna realise the game lasts 90 minutes plus whatever the officials decide to add on?
Yet again we read about some manager moaning about how they got beat in the last five minutes cos "we were tired". It really hacks me off... what do they want? To be able to turn to the ref with fifteen minutes left and say "Hey ref, we're knackered now. Can we call it full time?"
The sooner these wee teams realsie its 90 minutes the better - and when they do perhaps the media and opposing managers will give us some credit for playing the full 90 and using it to our advantage, AGAIN!
Welcome to the big league Gretna - hope you're not here for long...

John Galt
Interesting blogger name.
First, Hartley is able to attack up the right. He played right mid for most of his career. Second, Kennedy came on to allow Gary Caldwell to impersonate a right back. He is not particularly attacking but is one of our more mobile CB's.
I don't understand your point about bringing on a defensive RB at 80 minutes. Are you talking of the Jim O'Brien sub? Jim is a winger/centre forward and definately an attacker.
Maybe you could make this easier for me by telling me exactly what is your point.
Have to dash now. I will catch your reply later.

File under Life Likes That...
I was just pondering on the irony of the fact that it looks like the person who inflicted the wound that was Black Sunday, will be the person who goes a long way to healing the scars we carry as a result of it.
He is one of those guys - always seems to be in the right bit of the penalty box at the right time. Always alive to the ball always alert. Punts, dinks, volleys, sclaffs, headers, toe-pokes - he's got them all.
I don't tempt fate when it comes to derby predictions, but I would think that Mr McDonald is relishing the thought of his first game at Ibrox as a Celtic player.
And so am I.
-
geebee,
It is because the Seville year(our best) has disappeared off the co-efficient and been replaced by the Artmedia year.
You mention a run in the UEFA cup,
Sevilla,Newcastle Utd,Villarreal,AZ Alkmaar,Espanyol,Steaua Bucharest,CSKA,Schalke,Middlesbrough,Sportin Lisbon,Parma and Rangers are all above us due to the fact that they all had a good year or two in the UEFA cup, picking up a lot of points on the way to the quarters or Semis of that tournament.
It is correct that, for our co-efficient at least, the best option for us would be 3rd place and a decent run to the semis in the UEFA,or reaching the final of the Champion's League, one or the other.

The Chinese Whisper Phenomenon
The phenomenon known as chinese whispers stems from the game of the same name (see below). When passing information from one party to another (usually verbally) the facts and theme often become distorted. A common example of this is seen in rumors and neighbourhood gossip. Likewise, information passed by email is often altered, as is information that is overheard by people. Safety warnings can turn into scares, jokes into facts and dramas into crisis'.
The phenomenon itself can be defined as information that reaches it's destination, significantly altered in content, facts and theme to the way it was originally presented.

Och I know, and I apologise for the flippancy but these sort of journeys quickly become redundant no matter how long they actually continue. Then we move into the area of what is acceptable on the blog and what isn't - especially when we start using creative inference as opposed to out and out name calling. I'm all for point and counterpoint and actually enjoy that the written word is so ripe for misrepresentation, but I despair of he/she called me that I'm gonna call him/her this. Have read through the posts from the aftermath of the game with the usual measures of amusement and disbelief. Bottom line is that yesterday we were very poor, not individually but as a team. Maybe only McDonald was the exception to this as an individual performance.
For my money the wall was not set properly for their goal, from the straight on camera there was close to a yard of uncovered goal to aim at and the lad simply passed it into that area.
Artur never even moved to try to save it. It was not unsaveable by any stretch of the imagination. The Holy Goalie needs to keep up his concentration levels in ALL games not just the Champions League!
However to the great credit of the players they kept going and although I could not see who was going to score for us particularly after the goal line clearance from McDonald's header, Killen's header was an excellent goal, well taken and brought us back into the match.
After this I felt we might sneak it and Skippy looks like he could become Larsson2 the way he has started for us, his movement, ability to hold up play and crossing are all excellent. His goalscoring touch looks superb.
Okay he wont win as many headers as Henrik bit a real goalpoacher the likes of which we have not had for a while.
All in all a great week for the club, victory over the European Champions, Rangers lost, we won and are back at the top of the league!
A couple of weeks off for the players who are not on international duty will do them the world of good, I hope Lee goes on holiday for a week!
Of course we hope that all of our Bhoys come back after the international break well and then to Ibrox!
We will beat the Huns in their own back yard and then lets see what the sycophants in the press say about Walter's revolution when they are six points off the pace with 10 games gone.
Hail Hail!

In the good old days if lucky enough to be trapped in the school playground by a giggle of Primary 7 lassies you could get involved in a game of 'Kiss,Cuddle or Torture'.One of the tortures was a Chinese Burn.
Nowadays the victims of K,C or T will be queuing up for counselling,or putting it in their books.

Bhoy Molloy-what league are they in?
Do they play in the Hoops?

RobinBhoy - well said. Shivers up my spine at the last bit.
Right Fholks - I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race...
And I need to buy some sandpaper.

BM : What I cant stand is someone with a differing opinion will instead ridicule the poster with derogatory remarks and question the posters Celtic credentials rather than debate the points. What do these people offer this blog? Nothing is the answer.
===================================
Previously in the ever so slightly hypocritical world of bhoy molloy :
"m8 I totally understand. I said last week that this blog is :"
A) full of lazy posters
B) (posters) who jump on the slaughter bandwagon.
C) They are all guilty of Chinese whispers.
In the immortal words of Sir Rolf Harris, "Can anyone see what it is yet" ???

Geebee1978, unless we get an extended run in the Uefa Cup, we can expect to be below Rangers and in Pot 3 next season.
-
Aye Paul, if Rangers qualify for Europe.
-
Ulysses, you are talking rubbish
Shivers run down spines not up :)
-
Paul-or an extended run in the CL!
I thought both sets of supporters did well yesterday. We were in the Gretna support as well, but moved down to the end as the seats are so uncomfortable.I posted before the game that I wanted us to win without Gretna getting thumped-with 10 minutes to go I was thinking-OK,a little thumping would do!

Had a beer in the Fir Park Social Club before the game yesterday.
Much to WG's disgust who refused to come in and join me, never having darkened that places' doorstep before he didn't want to start yesterday.
Even when I offered to buy him a pint - which shows his utter conviction on this matter.
What struck me when I got in there was that they had a big picture of Lizzie on the wall.
Lizzie as in "Said Lizzie to Philip as they sat down to dine...."
What is that all about? What does it have to do with being a supporter of Motherwell FC?
Is this par for the course in the west of Scotland? Would she be up on the wall in Kilmarmock, St Mirren supporters/social clubs for example, or is it just an ML2 thing?
In an unrelated matter, Celtic defeated Hibs 2-0 in the Coronation Cup Final in 1953.

Re: my previous post about Heerenveen's Afonso Alves, I suspect that the link didn't work for anyone else... it worked for me as it was using a cached URL. So, for anyone that is interested, you can read about it here. (Note that his hat-trick arrived in 9 first half minutes, not 19, as stated on the UEFA report.)
Should we sign him then?
-
BCUK,but in the game against Helsingborg he would have been up against a real centreforward!
No way are we going to pay 19M euros for any player.
In notable former players for Heracles Almelo Wikipedia lists Steve'the Black Meteor'Mokone, the first black player in the Netherlands and...Jimmy Calderwood.
-
DBBIA, let's offer them JVoH, Sno, Riordan & Jarosik in exchange. That should enable us to reduce the wage bill at the same time...
-
BigChipSuk,
The guy sounds like a real predator but I think Heerenveen would be looking for £10Million+ as that's what we'd be looking for with a player of this calibre.
Also I would guess that his exploits have probably not gone unnoticed through-out Europe so teams from Spain, Italy and Engerland will all have tabs on such a player.
I hope I'm wrong but I think that if we'd got to him before his exploits at the weekend or even before his 34 goals last season we might have stood a chance.

Fair offer-but only if he can play right back!
-
new article posted.
-
DBBIA, he could play right back or left back, and still score a 10 minute hat-trick against St Mirren!
-
Skippy, you have now been forgiven!
-
TMC-Two games is probably not enough to make into a'pattern'but both have followed European games,in which he has distinguished himself.
