Celtic back to winning ways at Kilmarnock

I know Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has not discovered his scoring boots since coming back from injury, but he linked up with Scott McDonald more yesterday than I recall in all their previous games together; to most effect for the first goal.

The classic ‘long ball’ was knocked-on by Vennegoor of Hesselink to McDonald who drifted left and then right, after which he found himself inside the box with four defenders descending on him, though not quickly enough to prevent him squeezing the ball home. It was a great goal, the kind only a few Celtic strikers I have seen could have scored; maybe just the one.

The second goal, barely 90 seconds after the first, was another fine play. Aiden McGeady fired a dangerous cross between defence and goalkeeper, allowing McDonald to spring the offside trap and glance a header into the net.

At this point you would have put the mortgage on another hat trick, but 10 minutes into the second half everything changed. An innocuous free kick into the Celtic box tempted Artur Boruc, until this point a spectator, into the match. He remained a spectator despite coming to collect the cross, which was never his ball. Kilmarnock were back in the game.

The goal changed the game and could have led to an equaliser within a few minutes had Boruc not saved a weak shot from inside the box. Celtic were not quite under pressure for the remainder of the game, but they lost their grip on proceedings. Possession was surrendered cheaply as player after player tried and failed to find a team mate with an incisive pass. We saw both sides of Celtic yesterday.

Paul Hartley is enjoying his best form since arriving at Celtic Park in January, he looked really comfortable on the ball playing in the deep-lying midfield role and was always available. When Celtic were at their best, he and McGeady were involved.

We used to arrive home after a Celtic defeat and my mother , who would have heard the result, would mimic us by saying; "that's it. I'm no' going back. Big Shughes is a puddin'"

We can all moan at a bad performance or result, but it has to be in context and at no time harm the club.

The irony is that this site, which by it's name, was set up to counteract lazy journalism, has actually allowed the hacks to become lazier.

You will rarely, if ever, read any positive extracts from Celtic cyberspace, but every negative thought will be stored away for future use in the Siege of Celtic.

Let's not make it easier for them.

I agree on Hartley and I think Artur's recent blunders will mean that he will remain with us at least till the end of the season.

Any news on why Zurawski is not magic any more?

Dubaibhoy, I believe Maciej was one of a couple of strikers who started the season with a lot to prove to our manager. With McDonald playing, Venegoor is preferred as the foil.

I also though that Artur making the odd blunder this season might not be the worst thing over the long term.

    strange comment yesterday from GG
"McGeady flattered to deceive and his end product apart from McDonald's goal was less than precise."
So other than providing the cross for the winning goal he did nothing!! I for one am happy if that is his only contribution for every game.

There is a strange mentality within the celtic support just now and many on here have commented on it.
During Rangers dominance in 90s i used to take solace that we had the better support as we took thousands away from home played to thousands at home who got behind the team and any victory was savoured and relished. Meanwhile Ranegrs fans seemd to think they had a divine right to win every game and narrow wins and draws treated with calls for managers head.
Not long into MON era i commented that it has only taken us a few years of succes to turn into something that took around 8/9 years of success ibrox way.
We demand wins, we demand big wins, we think we have a divine right to win every game. How dare the home side have a bit of pressure or god forbid chances against us. How dare the away team have possession at parkhead. How dare we only win 1-0 at home.
How dare our young home grown winger not beat his man every time or find a celtic man with every ball. If he doesnt we will jeer and heckle. How dare every pass or tackle not come off for our players, we will groan and berate when this happens.
That is not support. A lot of phsycophants in our support totally live on TGFITW myth and love going abroad to show other countries what great sporting guys we are, you can take us anywhere. Yeah thats nice but supporting your team is what counts to get this title. We dont have a support worth speaking about these days and wednesday summed it up.
In the dark days of the 90s we had a core support of 17000 at home and these are our core support still. A look at the main stand every game and it is full (including wednesday) it is also the last place to clear unlike the rest of the stadium that empties with 10-15 to go every week.
There are other pockets like this around the stadium. The positive of the bigger stadium is the revenue it brings but the negative seems to be a lot of bandwagon jumpers who arrive when the good times start to roll again.

Dont know the answers but it would be nice to get back to a support that backed the team, took defeat on the chin, encouraged players, allowed them to express themselves, allowed them to misplace passes, and stayed for the full 90 minutes. Dont think that will ever happen again at parkhead (except in the big chanps league game but thats when its easy to be a supporter, at home to the likes of st mirren is when it counts) and that makes this supporter very sad.

Well done the club on a great win in a difficult place, but for one lapse good chance that game could have ended 4/5 nil and this blog would have been a different place.

A good many on here will have had to store their post for another week before telling everyone i told you so on the next occassion we have the temerity to not win a game handsomely.

3inarow, it is easy to forget that Celtic Park was ¼ full for most games when I was growing up, but you are right, we seemed to value a win a lot more when we got to win a lot less.

Ianinjesi, I was listening to Radio Scotland pre-match today with Craig Paterson and Crag Levin and decided I could no care who won the Edinburgh derby, but my gut reaction to your news that Hibs were beating Hearts was pleasing.

  • At 04/11/07 14:47, ianinjesi said…

    Paul,
it`s easy to listen to a game like this on radio. :-)No pressure, still 1-0.
Listening yesterday has taken a chunk out of my life expectancy.

Antsman, I think Artur reacted to the defence being pushed back too far but your theory may be correct.

  • At 04/11/07 14:51, 3inarow said…

Paul, its not just the valuing a win, it is the absolute outrage that comes with defeats as if we have a god given right to win every game.
I think it is fine to criticise performances, there is a certain level of application and effort required and if this slips then have a go.
There are many around me at parkhead who are spitting mad with rage if we are not winning after 20 minutes, some of this even happens when we play the likes of milan!!!
Its at these times when i long for the 1/4 full stadium as the atmospherse made it seem full.
Sadly we have the reverse, the team play to a full stadium that just feels a quarter full.

And a quick note to those in the Green brigade, just once this season try and place your banner the right way up, or do you meaningly display it upside down every game. Remember as you bend down to read and you can read it then that means its upside down!!!

Good to get the 3 points. Great first half and we missed another couple of sitters that could have made the scoreline wider.

Agree Paul our key troika at the minute is Hartley, McGeady and McDonald. When these three are on the boil at the same time, we make some waves.

I'm sure big Artur will learn from his blunders. The ones he's made this year have been quite different. I'm sure he learns from each one and while he'll still have a few howlers left in his arsenal, they will become a more rare event.

Never been a fan of Jiri, he has his moments but flatters to deceive most of the time. I'm still wishing him all the best in January.

WGS said in his post-match interview that the Holy Goalie often gets bored and just wants to be involved.

Best case scenario: a couple of blunders scare off Arseanal and he stays with us to be the a legend :)

Worst case scenario: He still leaves, but his blunders mean that we get 10million less than we should have :(

    Paul,
The more teams that are bubbling under the surface at the top of the league, the better it will be for us.

We generally can take care of these teams, while I think Rangers fear them more.

There will be plenty of points lost this year.
For this reason, I am a bit disappointed the Dundee Utd will be deprived of Wilkie and Robson after their red cards.

Anyway, in the natural pecking order, you will always want Hibs to stuff the Jambos.

I think Hearts will pay for their mid week exertions in the second half.

    3inarow,
    Two very good posts.

Are those Green Brigade guys the same ones who couldn't spell Celtic? If so, I blame Catholic schools.

Once Artur cuts out the blunders. Once Aiden starts to put the ball in the top corner. Once a few million are spent on the defence. Once Jan gets back to his best form. We will be a pretty neat oufit. Wont be bad at all at all if it all clicks together.
I would not be dissapointed at all re the CIS cup game, if 2-3 youngsters had been given a run out from the begining. Lower price tickets might have helped the atmosphere, sometimes its not ALL about profit profit profit. I would much rather see lower prices bigger crowd less profit on such occasions, even Chelski have learned about that one.

Gordon Strachan has brought exciting football back to Paradise, and continuation of success that MON regenrated in the club. For that I'm very grateful.

My criteria for judging the manager now is:

I would like to see more consistency.

Lets have depth in the team where we have gaps - we all know where they are.

I would like to see incremental improvement.

    For some of the fans I hope for;

More patience with the team and especially the young guns.

Relax and enjoy your football a bit more. Its not life and death, and there were days at this club where the clouds were so black the sun did not shine.

Think about the self proclaimed title GFITW (which I dont like) has to be earned. Have we?

The Green Brigade do it to show that they are unhappy with something at the club. I believe its in relation to John Reids appointment.

    Most definitely deliberate.

  • At 04/11/07 15:40, 3inarow said…

    didnt realise that.
so its qualified support they give then, thats good of them.
To those who dont realise the symbolism of their actions they just look stupid, certainly to the away support looking in from the outside.
I know people who sit near them and who are looking to move seats or stop going as seemingly they spend half the game not watching the park and some of their chants and comments are irritating and juvenile.
Personally I thnk anyone not happy with an appointment within the club should put their reservations down on appaer and contact the club. Dont believe during the game, where the supporters should be focused on backing the team, is the place to do it. It just causes even more disquiet in the stands and gives more ammunition to the media pack.

The way I see it, at the moment we are relying completely on McDonald McGeady and (to a lesser extent) Brown to win us games. Everyone else at the moment is average.

I'd swap JVOH for Velicka in a minute on current form. Stronger, faster and harder working.

The contrasts between JVOH and McDonald just goes to show that spending on 'big' name players doesn't guarantee anything. I'm not saying JVOH can't do it, but he hasn't offered any more than Killen for me the whole season.

Benny thanks for pointing out that we are the top league scorers in British football.

Another headline you won't read is that we are the only side in British football not to concede a league goal at home.

I thought we were decent yesterday - to the names of Hartley and McDonald I'd add Jarosik. We look a stronger team whith him on the left. And Aiden too - the best player to watch in Scotland.

Killie may have the award for best football pie in Scotland but the fan who offered the ball to Naylor then threw it away and did similar to Aiden too proves they also have the biggest puddin'.

    To St. George’s Hill,
A ragged band they called the Diggers
Came to show the people’s will
    They defied the landlords
    They defied the laws
They were the dispossessed reclaiming what was theirs

We come in peace they said
    To dig and sow
We come to work the lands in common
And to make the waste ground grow
    This earth divided
    We will make whole
    So it will be
    A common treasury for all

    The sin of property
    We do disdain
No man has any right to buy and sell
    The earth for private gain
    By theft and murder
    They took the land
    Now everywhere the walls
    Spring up at their command

    They make the laws
    To chain us well
The clergy dazzle us with heaven
Or they damn us into hell
    We will not worship
    The God they serve
The God of greed who feed the rich
    While poor folk starve

    We work we eat together
    We need no swords
We will not bow to the masters
Or pay rent to the lords
    Still we are free
    Though we are poor
You Diggers all stand up for glory
    Stand up now

    From the men of property
    The orders came
They sent the hired men and troopers
To wipe out the Diggers’ claim
    Tear down their cottages
    Destroy their corn
    They were dispersed
But still the vision lingers on

    You poor take courage
    You rich take care
This earth was made a common treasury
    For everyone to share
    All things in common
    All people one

    We come in peace
The orders came to cut them down

There's a sad irony to the fact that more people were oppressed and murdered in the 20th century by regimes claiming to be attempting to implement that naive idea of "all things in common" than by all the so-called "capitalist" societies in history.

  • At 04/11/07 19:02, WGS said…

Here is WGS's take on the situation at present.

At the moment our manager and our club are becoming under sever attack from the vast majority of the scottish press. Why?????

Easy!! They see our manager as some kind of threat to Walter and "Alistair". If Smith does not win the title this year previous hero worshipping status he received in the 90's will be gone. Walter must win the tile this year or the fans will not be happy at all.

Smith has enjoyed a great relationship with some of our so called media in this country. Not only that but the majortiy are bought by Murray and died in te wool supporters who are currently hurting at our success. Gleneagles six anybody!!

Let's just say that after the defeats to Benfica and Rangers, many seen this as a way to cause unrest at our club by reporting inaccurate stories and headlines. Down right lies to cause a division between manager and supporters. Problem is some supporters are falling for it.

Don't get me wrong i think WGS has called some bizarre decisions lately with regards team selections in games, however, it does not warrant all the crap he has been getting. Constructive criticism yes just like Billy McNeill said the other day, but not this drivel we are feed from the usual suspects of the laptop loyal.

I applaud WGS for taking this line of action just like i liked the way Kenny Dalglish did as well. All this stuff we hear on radios from the like of Keevins etc.. is a load of tosh. They take the moral high ground when they want. They hate it when someone is a match for them. This exactly what Strachan is trying to do. Play them at their own game.

We got on about how we would like to do this and that to certain people in the media. How we want people to stand up against them etc.. Now we have someone that does it and i think everyone of us should get behind the manager. I would personally like to see some backing from the board on this issue as well.

Just remember this. This perception of Walter being this and that with media is a complete myth. REMEMBER THE INTERVIEW WITH CHICK YOUNG AFTER THE AEK ATHENS GAME!! Chick has never been the same interviewing him. So far up his backside unbelievable. Oh aye what about refusin to answer Peter Martin's question with regards the Rangers supporters after the CL qualifying tie away. PM is grovelling to him now after old Walter blanked him. Coud you imagine if that was Gordon.

When you hear certain sections from our esteemed press claiming and looking for sympathy with regards WGS comments and how they are treated. Remeber this!! It is only to unsettle our club in the quest for the title and help their friend Walter not lose his status among the Rangers support.

I think your comments are perceptive. I've long believed that a large section of the Celtic support has been spoiled by our success since MON arrived.

    People have short memories.

Walter Smith was mutually consented out of Ibrox the first time around despite helping deliver unprecedented success to the facecombers. They thought they had a divine right to do even better, and the result was Wee Dick and a catastrophic self-inflicted financial implosion which handed the strategic initiative to a resurgent Celtic under Martin O'Neill.

We should be careful what we wish for.

Football's An El Of A Funny Old Game Fan Books Jet To City 700 Miles From Match

A RANGERS fan booked flights to see his team play Barcelona - to an airport almost 700 miles from the match.

Bungling Paul McDowall - nicknamed Glum by pals - booked £125 return flights to Malaga thinking he could taxi it fromthere to Barcelona.

But he will land in the Costa del Sol - 12 hours from Nou Camp stadium, where the Champions League game will take place.

Now Paul, of Maybole, Ayrshire, faces a 690-mile each-way race against time on trains and buses.

He is due to arrive in Malaga at noon on Tuesday with the game set to kick off the next day - 33 hours later. His main problem will be getting back in time for his return flight to Prestwick at 12:40pm on Thursday - only 14 hours after the game ends.

Paul, a golf caddy and labourer, said: "Direct flights to Barcelona were all booked or too expensive. I thought Malaga was the nearest airport.

"To make matters worse, I haven't got a ticket to the game or found a hotel yet - but I'm determined to go."

wgs - broadsides at the press are one thing, but I can't help but feel it would be much more effective if the Club singled out specific "journalists" for specific sanctions in response to the more outrageous examples of anti-Celtic behaviour among the laptop loyal.

For example - say a certain television news programme falsely accuses Celtic fans of sectarian singing, and then falsely alleges Celtic is being investigated by the authorities as a result.

Am I naive in thinking said television news programme should have been immediately banned from all Celtic press conferences until making a full and grovelling public apology? Surely this would be more effective in tackling them than letting Gordon Strachan take all the flak for taking a swipe at the media in general.

I think the Board in general do an excellent job, but the one thing that habitually disappoints me is their failure to defend the interests of the club as aggressively as I believe they should be doing. Their silence over the attacks on Artur Boruc is another example.

I hope John Reid takes a firmer line on certain issues.

  • At 04/11/07 19:18, Parkheadcumsalford said…

Some people on here seem to think that the anti-Celtic media bias is something new and even more ridiculous that it is a consequence of WGS being our manager. That somehow he brought this upon us. Utter tosh. It was for this very reason that Mr Stein started the Celtic View and that must be at least 40 years ago.

I think we should all get behind our manager. He is trying to get us to see the kind of behaviour everyone in the Club has to endure from the meeja. They have done their best to destroy Fergus McCann and Tommy Burns to name only 2.

Has there beeen any mention of the awful stuff the rangers "support" vhant about Mr Stein? There certainly hasn't been any campaign to eradicate it from what I can discover. These "journalists" should never be given the time of day, never mind any credence from any of us. I don't see why we don't bar them. They neeed us a lot more than we need them. We shouldn't even be purchasing their tripe. Let them fester in their Ibrox love-in.

back to yesterday press conference and wgs telling the media to basically gtf.totally correct.a line has to be drawn here.

we all know the press are full of the members of a blue persuasion ranging from the joke figures wee chick, both darryls to the absolute garbage graham clark(who called celtic squatters for going to hmpden in 1995),andy mcinness(mon wouldnt give him the time of day allegedly),roddy forsyth(why bbc 5 live give him a platform is beyond me),leggat, andy devlin and kingy..

The manager should be backed for his stance wholeheartedly.the few pro-celtic journos are minimalised.

the ranger couldnt get rid of ewing grahame quick enough and guys like paddy barclay and Ian McGarry wouldnt get a job with any of the rags up here while as sean south said on here recently he wouldnt get anywhere near a job up here once they knew who he was.the boss should be backed not slated..

as for flanders he done the two books about celtic greats and he dedicates the book to his mother who...
    "still worries about them"

a point for terry oneill next time he phones up to go at..

personally Id take the press conferences back to Bairds and make them all squirm..

Treat them with the contempt they deserve...

    Alright lads,

Great first half performance from the lads yesterday, 2nd half not so great more the typical match you get at Rugby Park.

I mentioned it at the time we signed Scott MacDonald to my dad but have we ever signed a bad striker from Motherwell? I'm only going back off the top of my head but Joe McBride, Dixie Deans, Brian McClair and Andy Walker are the ones I can think of. Scott MacDonald is looking like he won't be letting us down!

Just a enmtion on the Green Brigade. Bar getting the banner upside down yesterday I quite like them, wihtout knowing too much about them. They have certainly livened up the area I sit in (Block 111, Row SS). It used to be the proverbial library but is more lively now. The only thing is my wee bhoys are constantly singing 'Glasgow Celtic Champions, Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh...'. Whilst the words I will never tire of hearing, the song heard constant all day drives you mad!

Butterflies already thinking of Tuesday night!

Good result yesterday. Skippy is really coming on to a game.

On the subject of the lazy media - The press have always been against celtic, we all know that. Whether it is a conspiracy to stop 3 in a row, I'm not sure. I think that WGS is dealing with them in the right way, with complete contempt. We should all back the Manager against these attacks. Dont buy their papers, don't visit their sites. It's easy.

I'm really looking forward to Tuesday. I honestly think we will beat Benfica. I'm coming home to paradise for the game, my first CL home game for ages. Might even pop into BB's after our victory.

    Some great posts tonight chaps.

2 wee queries if anyone has the time:

    1) Do we know much about how John Reid preceives his new role (public statements etc.) Is he a 'safe pare of hands' to continue from Mr Quinn or something more radical (as seems to be hoped for on here)

    2) I've lived in England for 20 years. I KNOW top clubs, managers and media would not ignore issues like McCurry's performance in last OF game or all the Big Lie stuff. I think more of us should hit 5Live with calls/posts - there is surely a great story to be told if we can help English journos put the pieces together...

Like the militant rants regarding sanctions against certain peeps in the media - simply put - if you continue to unfairly represent us then yer no comin back to oor hoose.
Why we allow ourselves to be treated in the fashion and invite them in follwing day/week bemuses me.

    3inarow - way back around 14.00
Totally agree (wrote a similar post
couple of days ago)with all of this especially the early exit boys. Don't know what annoys me most - leaving early after good performance when team deserve our appreciation or leaving early whem team needs extra encouragement to go for winner/equaliser.

Killie game - really our season in 90 mins - good bits, not so good bits, mental bookings (Kennedy), poor finishing to kill game, goalie error, not enough midfielders in box for crosses/cutbacks etc. etc.etc.

If boyd doesnt start for rangers on wednesday i look forward to the press reaction, not playing your best goalscorer, the man who scores every time he starts. Surely the media will have something to say about that, i'm sure a precedent has been set recently regarding that.

Players at our club who it would appear are surplus to requirements take up lots of column inches about being unhappy and "ending their hell" etc.

However over murray park way, players such as naismith, boyd, ehiogu, buffel(remember him) are just glad rangers are doing well and will bide their time.
I'll wager ehiog on big wages as is buffel, just as a few years ago klos would have been one of the higher earners at ibrox and his career ended silently, akin to us treating the king in such a way, klos had that staus at rangers but the media dont see it that way.

    Rangers have a strong squad.
Celtic have unhappy players not able to get a game.
the same as it ever was.

    On a serious point.

I have been pondering on the possibility that GS' team selections have been slightly compromised, by the contract system in place at CP now.

PL has stated that the practice of paying high salaries has changed to one of lower basics and increased appearance and bonus payments.

Whilst being unwilling to guarantee first team football to anyone, he would have to give his top players the opportunity to top up their basic, or else you would have an unhappy Naka, JVoH, Donati, etc. on your hands.

There would have to have been some sort of nod and a wink deal done before these guys would come to CP.

Could be a factor in him always playing his "strongest" team.

    A difficult balancing act.

I would like him to confirm this below.

You may have missed this Tic Lovers but apparently there was the greatest preformance in the history Scottish footvall yesterday.
If Graeme Bryce NOTW is to be believed that is. Jean Claude Darcheville only needed 30 minutes to clock up 8 ratings points even although he didn't score and had a glaring miss "from 8 yards from a free header". Now I'm old enough (over 9) to know these things don't matter but 8 out of 10 in 30 minutes is a major feat.

    WATCH OUT BARCA!

Bryce should ask his bosses to recognise this performance of a lifetime with a suitable award at the next gathering!

By the way Scott McDonald also got 8 for his 2 goals and match deciding preformance.

    Kind of reinforces the point.

Results from the rest of Spain tonight.

Everyone's favourite stripeys, Atlético Madrid had their bubble burst. They threw away a two-goal lead at home to our old friends Villarreal and ended up losing 3-4 after Nihat scored the winner on 88 minutes.

    Good enough for them.

Clerics' favourite, Real Valladolid came back from an early own goal set-back away to Real Zaragoza to win 2-3. All of the violet-and-whites' goals game in a five-minute Blitzkrieg around the half-hour mark and they stood strong after Diego Milito grabbed one back on 86 minutes.

Talk of the Spanish steamie, though, is that Bernd Schuster has caused a stooshie by complaining about the referee in his side's 2-0 defeat away to Seville.

He said of Mr Álvarez Izquierdo: "He's Catalan, isn't he. There's no need to say another word."

The ref sent off Sergio Ramos and booked Raúl for a dive when Real Madrid thought they had a shout for a penalty.

They had one shot on target all night.

Winningemmell suggested last night that the masonic conspiracy was spreading to Spain.

    Conclusion: Bernd Schuster reads CQN.

I've seen a few posters now calling on John Reid to take on an "attack dog" role on behalf of Celtic and I genuinely don't get it.

If the Board wanted an attack dog, could they not get someone within the current board to undertake this task? I'm sure every member there has managed to string an argument together in their time and have savaged a few employees in their past. Does JR have something which sets him apart from our current employees in his ability to tackle the press? I think not.

The Board doesn't attack the press routinely because they feel it is a wasteful campaign. Don't make an enemy of someone who buys their print ink by the tanker full being the message. On occasions where eregious harm has been done, such as STV, there will be discreet pressure to get this rectified. Does JR do discreet any better than BQ?

I think it's arguable that JR is in a weaker position than his predecessor in that, at the first hint of a scolding comment, his past as a singer of rebel songs will be highlighted as an ad hominem attack to weaken his influence. Now you and me and other informed people may think that argument is easily overcome but, I fear that Middle Scotland will see it differently and will tut tut that such a man with such a past is allowed to represent the club. It could be quite ironic if the Green Brigade end up defending JR once he is on the receiving end of press ridicule.

No, I'm afraid that his past, on more than one count, will be a liability to us in defending ourselves. I can't see that he has been brought in to launch an attack. If we wanted to attack, we would have done so already.

JR, in my view, was given the post as a reward by Dermot Desmond. He has information of value to DD in his other business interests but he does not advance celtic's interest on DD's behalf. I suspect he will try a low key approach. He has no great current political influence. The Prime Minister is not a friend of his and he has more enemies than friends thanks to the jobs he has been asked to do. So why would the EPL or Uefa be more willing to offer Celtic anything because John Reid is there?

Can anyone out there enlighten me?

I really hope that you got to know your father as a man as well as your Dad before he passed away. Too often the relationship between a father and son can be one in which a few more words should have been exchanged just to cement the love each one had for the other.

The following may be of some comfort to you and your family......I hope so:

    WHAT IS DYING?

The ship sails and I stand watching
Till she fades on the horizon
And someone at my side says:
    “ She is gone”

    Gone where?
Gone from my sight – that is all
She is just as large and beautiful as when I last saw her
    The diminished size
And total loss of sight is in me
    Not in her.
    And just at the moment
When someone at my side says:
    “ She is gone”
There are others who are watching her coming
And old friends and loved ones take up the glad shout

    “There she comes”

    And that is dying.

    Deepest sympathies.

One of the reasons thats keeping me awake and on here is thinking of my own dad I lost c4 years ago and I understand your feelings about being with your own kind.

If its a comfort I can tell you that those moments of pain of loss , while not any less acute when they occur do, over time, happen less frequently.

    My condolences on your loss.

Discybhoy - sorry to hear about your sad news. Lost my mother to the same dreadful disease earlier this year. But in a way, as sftb said, we lost her several years previously.

Had very mixed emotions when she died but think the main one was relief that she had finally found some peace after many years with no quality of life and her dignity, and sense of identity, being gradually stripped away.

Thankfully in a way, those afflicted by this condition don't appear to suffer, it's the relatives and friends that do.

    My condolences on your loss.

Not really to sure about the upside down writing, i think it has links to European Ultras, again in relation to showing they are unhappy with something in the running of the club.

To underline though this is 3rd hand info taken from another site so be warned it could be wrong.

Gordon, many thanks for meeting me on sat and for the tickets. Much appreciated.

    Discybhoy,
    tough few days ahead,
may god provide the inner strengh
    to get through
Here are a few words from Mary Frye
to encourage us to look in memory palace where dad now lives.
    May he rest in peace.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

    All the best

    DiscyBhoy,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

My mother, a massive hoops fan, passed away 4 years ago today. I miss her most after great results as I remember that I can no longer call her to share the joy.

I hope that my Mum and your Dad will be smiling in heaven in May as we celebrate 3 in a row.

    Hail Hail

you have my thoughts and prayers.

i go to games with my old man.
i have went to the football since i was about 5 with him.
    ive stood in the jungle.
    we endured the hampden year.
we were entrenched in the save our celts rallies.
weve witnessed some poor sides but had some great times.
32 years of going to the footy with your old man is something i cherish.
he also watches my two sons one day a week. ones 5 ones 2.
we had this conversation recently that i dont think i could carry on
going to games if it wasnt with him. his reply was "dont you want Aidan and
Aaron to have the same bonding weve had over the years". hes got a point.
the strange thing is that i have a lot of mates who go and
we have other family memebers who we travel to games
with but we have always just stuck to me and him.

you seem to handle your pain with great dignity, i dont think i could.
may your father rest in peace.
    god bless.
