...........................
I don't think it's racism but Jim Craig felt that part of the reason why Sno is singled out for criticism is partly because he is black. Not because people hate black people but rather we are a team of white players, he is also 6'2, with dreadlocks and with a distinctive languid style of play. For these reasons Sno inevitably stand out. Donatti could make just as many mistakes but he would get less stick. It's clearly frustration from the fans that he isn't as imposing (yet!) in matches as he should be and because his physique it's impossible for him to hide but it isn't racism except for the very minority of fans. Let's not kid ourselves that we don't have racist fans, all teams do, but we have very few.
As for Celtic fans disliking Gordon for not being 'celticminded', well that's a lot of tosh mckinlay (he was some crosser of the ball eh?). There are a number of reasons why Gordon isn't rated by some fans: When he signed he had little background experience, he was following our second best manager ever, he got hammered in his opening match; which was embarrassing, every time he builds up a good run we seem to have a bad result like Clyde or Falkirk, and he has complete confidence in his own managerial ability. The latter would normally be a strength but when fans have doubts they consider it a weakness. It's got to a the stage were a lot of fans are waiting for a mistake to happen to say 'I told ye so!' but Gordon keeps on producing the goods. I think the majority of supporters are right behind him, I certainly am, but there a lot who have doubts. The main problem is his critics keep on saying 'if he doesn't do this, this, and that then he needs to go', but he keeps on getting the trophies so instead of saying 'well, he has proven me wrong', the boundaries are moved even higher. On a domestic level he hasn't taken a major scalp yet as Rangers have dropped their level in recent years but if he beats Walter this year I think the support will be pretty much unanimous for him. I think he is a great manager personally, and I think his record will show over time. He'll be a manger we'll be happy with in hindsight but not while he's here. Much the same as players like Telfer, Agathe, and Balde I guess.

I know we can all be wise after the event, but when Gordon was asked by Chick Young in front of the press pack, what he thought of the rumour he was about to quit, he should have responded "I never started that rumour, but the person who did is sitting in this room. Let's see he if he has the bottle to stand up.......No, I didn't think so."
During the exchange I would hope his eyes would never leave Chick Young.

At 03/11/07 01:29, Gordon said…
You are right, Stirling Albion were indeed a bogey team for us at Annfield at any rate.
Two seasons on the trot we went there and din't manage a win.
In the "Lisbon" season, we drew 1-1.
*correct Gordon and the season before we lost 0-1 there, this was also in February, this game was sandwiched between 6-0 and 5-0 victories over Falkirk and Dundee respectively.
In fact we would only drop one more point in the run in and this was a 0-0 tie at Easter Road during a 14 day drought spell when we failed to also score against Liverpool away and the huns twice in the SC Final and replay.
Can you recall that in both games the Binos played in an orange strip, only time they wore it was against the Bhoys at Annfield, the media thought it was just a bit of fun by sammy.

I want to say thank you for the continued good sense, perspective and wisdom shown by many of the posters here at a time when frankly Paul's blog (through no fault of himself) is at times becoming in my opinion an embarassment to the good name of Celtic supporters.
Some of the posting is shameful and sadly it has become an unpleasant place to visit and I have been here from very nearly the beginning. Can I emplore some of you ghuys take a good look at yourselves in the mirror and ask why it is you hate, yes I think hate, our manager so.
I make a clear distinction between those who don't agree with the broad strategy of the board, those who disagree with team selection or tactics and those for their own reasons want Gordon Strachan to leave the club.
This has always been a place to discuss the club, the football and all matters relating to Celtic. It should not be a place for people to mount a campiagn to have our by no means faultless but nevertheless very successful manager sacked.
I have just listened to the press conference yesterday and it is clear that Gordon was upset from the outset. My guess is that he too had heard the rumours yesterday and was rightly angry about them and so when the clown had the brass neck to ask for a reaction they got what they deserved.
But here's the thing. Some Celtic supporters actually chose to add to the scurilous rumours by posting about it here! Hell's bells what were you thinking about? This is a blog in support of Celtic, where Celtic NEWS can be discussed not a place for spreading harmful rumours about our manager.
We know that this blog is pored over by lazy journalists and you've just done their job for them.
C'mon the Hoops, win lose or draw.

2 - 0 HT.
Good performance, posession turned into goals. Solid at the back and controlling midfield. Hartley having a stormer followed by McGeady. Jarosic doing OK but Scott Brown not in the game enough.
Up front JVoH linking up well and Skippy in great goalscoring form.
Don't want to jinx it but half way to that clean sheet!
-
Excellent first half. Hartley McGeady and McDonald having very good games.
Team formation is correct and the team are showing the benefits of it.
-
Half Time and it's 2-0
I'm fairly pleased with that. JVOH and McDonald linking well. McGeady on a great run of form just now.
Naylor looking better which I'm liking.
I'd be very surprised if we don't win from 2-0, they haven't looked threatening at all so far.
I think one more will kill it and if we get it then it could be 4 or maybe even another 5.
-
Mcleod, commentator, and chick all sick. Celticlucky according to Murdo. Any 'Celtic'supporters sick we will still be top of the league tonight? Have I missed something? We could be 3,5,or even 6 points clear tonight. Bhoy Molloy et al? Still want Strachan to go at 6 points clear?

Was thinking the exact same thing. The timing was superb :)
-
Celtic 2-0 up at half time and playing really well. PH and SB in the middle of the park making a difference. As much as I think Donati will come good, I think we have the first choice central midfield playing today. Aiden playing well too, go on son!
Gie us another couple of goals and, most important, keep a clean sheet!
-
Haha! Just when Bhoy Molloy says something nice about the team and someone has to wind him up again :)
-
I was talking to a guy who works in Rufus in Glasgow recently, he's a Killie fan.
He says it's "The Killie Boys" that they sing and doesn't have sectarian lyrics.
To which I could only reply:
Aye, well yer still mince. :)

-
HT Kilmarnock 0-2 Celtic
Solid 1st half performance. The difference between the sides is Scott McDonald. His workrate is pnenomenal and has paid off with 2 goals - JVoH take note. Both goals were excellent finishes.
Hartley is dominating the centre of midfield. I have been critical of PH since he joined but he is now proving that he can be a good player for us. The defence have been solid - hopefully we can manage the long awaited shut out today.
Scott Brown and Aiden have both been industrious as has Jiri. No complaints in the midfield today.
Odds on for at least 1 more from Skippy today - hopefully he bags another hat-trick. Would like to see JVoH pitching in with a goal also.
-
Bhoy_Malloy - welcome back :)
-
I dont moan for the sake of it ;)
Today has been good so I'll call it that way.
CelticSephiroth , who is trying the wind up?
-
CelticSephiroth -
I'm pretty sure i heard the line "Up to our knees....etc". So whether they start with "killie" or "billy" it's still sectarian.
The kilmarnock board owe a big thanks to Scott MacDonald for stamping out sectarian singing at their ground ;)
-
2 changes for Killie at half time, none for us. Looks like Lee Naylor is OK.
-
pfayr,
I would feel worse if Celtic supporters were paying their licence fee! Murdo certainly joins in with the consensus. Keeps him in a job.:-)
Hopefully the Bhoys can get more goals.
Two subs on for Killie.
-
Good run and shot from Aiden - saved
-
Was listening to Radio Clyde and a couple of interesting points raised by them.
1 - to be fair to big DJ, it was him that mentioned the similar recent record that both Celtic and Rangers have (3 defeats in however many games) and that Rangers aren't getting the same criticisms from the press - the consensus was that Walter Smith has respect, especially after taking over from PLG's debacle. Well, that's fine then!
2 - Graham Spiers says that the media do sometimes spin and exagerate when it comes to players and managers, and that they, the media, can have no cause for complaint when the likes of WGS hit back, like he has done. Fair play to him.
Cmon the hoops!
-
Long passage of possession for us there. Good movement. Shot from PH just wide
-
boruc gaff 1-2
-
Clean sheet gone. Artur comes for a ball 10 yards out and doesn't get there. Looked like he didn't have confidence in the defence to clear.
-
Goal to them. Hopeful cross into the box that Boruc should have dealt with
-
Clean sheet gone after a poor decision by Boruc. I predicted we would not keep a clean sheet which was an easy call. Now is a test of Celtics mental stamina. Game on.
-
Aiden booked. Another needless booking
-
bad defending and VERY bad goalkeeping
they looked well out of it
the door is left open again
this failure to keepa clean sheet away from home is outrageous
-
Good pressure from us - nearly a goal
-
boruc redeemed great save
-
Boruc redeems himself with a great save. Should have been 2-2
-
great save boruc atrocious defending
same old same old i`m afraid
we are now under pressure in a game which should have been dead and buried
-
Another scramble in our box. This game is far from over
-
Boruc can be so frustrating sometimes in smaller games. He is always a tressure in the big matches but he just doesn't concentrate all the time in the smaller ones. He's as guilty as any of our defense for our lack of clean sheets away from home.
In saying that I still love him, but I wish he would be a bit more alert in these smaller away games.
-
Another scramble in our box. This game is far from over
-
All Killie now, they now have belief and ours is ebbing.
-
I don't blame the defence for the goal at all. Boruc climbed over 3 of his own players to attempt a punch he didn't make. Basically stopped 3 defenders from attacking the ball.
-
time to hook jiri and bring on donati
-
Naylor has not ever scored for celtic why is he getting involved in taking and wasting free kicks
-
Naylor has not ever scored for celtic why is he getting involved in taking and wasting free kicks

Bhoys applying pressure again
-
The game's getting really stretched. W#re ahead and should be capable of slowing it down and controlling midfield.

jarosik now wasting a jersey can't even take a short pass

Jiri needs to come off now. Entertaining game but would prefer us to be up 4-0 by now
-
WGS
make a sub for gods sake!!!!
-
JJ is not contributing any less than scott brown ... a very poor show from him today
-
JVOH summed up just now. Floated ball over by McGeady. JVOH stands behind Killie players and jumps. Hartson or Sutton would have attacked that ball taking man and all.
-
Need a goal to calm the nerves. This game should have been over at HT

Celtic need a substitution.
This game has reminded me what a quality player Scott MacDonald is, if I needed any reminders. Hope we keep hold of him for a good long while.
Hartley looks very comfortable in that defensive midfield role, good game today.
-
....or shoot
-
McD plays in Aiden but Aiden hits it high and wide
-
McGeady shoots wide from the edge of the box after good set up play from Skippy.
-
Aiden should have scored and would have been just reward for his efforts.
-
2 mins added. A good performance today but a Boruc error has caused too much discomfort here in MN
-
Curiouser and curiouser.
-
FT 2-1.
Good performance in the first half had the game won. But we let Killie back into the game with a very poor goal given away (again). A few nervous moments after that but also a few chances to kill the game off.
Hartley was superb in a central role, McGeady looked lively again and Skippy took his goals well as part of an overall good performance from him. JVoH linked up well but tired as did Jarosec. Scott Brown had one of his least effective performances.
Overall we deserved to win and it's six points clear, for a few hours at least.
-
Yes!
-
good win by celts
not the second half we hoped for
a lot of tired legs not freshened by the coach.
job done though, wish aiden could finish better
credit to killie for making a game of it when they were dead and buried
-
Good first half but a poor second half so over 90 minutes an average performance with still a lot of frailties apparent and self belief is one attribute that faded fast when they scored.
-
FT - Good 3 points.
To be fair Killie came out and played well 2nd half. Our 3 most consistent players in recent weeks did it again for us today - Aiden, McD and Hartley. Brown also did well in midfield.
Good game. We need a big strong centre half - anyone know where we can find one?
Hail Hail
-
14:19, Parkheadcumsalford
Agreed. He is so frustrating at times with his final pass, shot.
JJ? Mmmmm. Think I'll keep my opinion to myself..
-
FT 2-1 us. Welcome three points, another poor performance.
Plus points: Hartley, Brown, and the excellent McDonald. Occasionally Aiden.
Minuses: Naylor, rubbish, Jiri rubbish, midfield uncreative and flat.
Three points is three points but we have become a torturously unentertaining team to watch.
-
Let me add after today I really hope we sign a left back that can deliver crosses. How bad is Naylors deliveries.
-
Is it just me or are alot of our problems psychological.
After their goal our team turned from good players who were composed and comfortable in possession to hapless diddies for about 15 minutes.
We need to get the frame of mind right here.
Still, a welcome three points.
-
And breathe.
A few heart stopping moments, but all's wee that ends well.
A very solid first half performance and I think JVOH played very well - some nice flick ons to McDonald and good link up play with the midfield.
Pressure now on the huns.
-
Glad we won. Should be happy, but defensively we are a shambles.
The individuals at the back are not good enough, and the defending as a group is terrible.
Well played Scott McDonald.
-
Tortuous yes - unentertaining no.
We have no God given right to steamroller anyone. Any and all away games are tough. That was a good result today.
Didn't think that Jiri was as bad as some people are suggesting - he at least competes for the ball. Personally I was more disappointed with Skoosh.
-
Good 3 points, although we can make life so difficult for ourselves.
Still, a win down there is always one to savour.
-
Bhoy Malloy
Leave Nails alone mate. Why should a left back be expected to supply constant crosses!!! I have NEVER thought that should be his responsibilty, at least as much he is expected to.
Really.
Good, hard fought win.
Hail Hail
-
I didn't see too much wrong with our defending today apart from one bad decision by Artur. Killie made a few chances after they were lifted by the goal, but every team will have a spell in a game. The centre backs coped well with Killie's long balls and the full backs weren't under too much pressure. Hartley provided good support in the deep midfield role too.
-
Touch of the curate's egg about today's performance.
First half was as good as we've played with Hartley controlling everything.
I'm getting a bit concerned over Brown's yellow cards. It seems that after he gets booked, he falls out of the game. I see a pattern developing.
Second half was disappointing, with Killie going three at the back and getting much more possession.
Our midfield fell completely out of the game. Add in Boruc's all to frequent lapse and we were on the back foot.
JVoh and Mc.Donald linked well and Aiden ran himself into the ground again, but once again our second half troubles stemmed from the midfield.
Mc.Donald was outstanding .as well as his two goals, he also took the pressure off the defence towards the end almost single handed.
-
Its a bit unnerving that Killie upped their game second half and suddenly they were the equal of Celtic.
We dont like it when teams have a go.
-
A lot of harsh comments towards some of our players.
It was a good win.
It is going to be tough in every away game so 3pts well deserved.
Need to get the shooting boots on though!
-
I think a defensive coach is required, someone akin to Tony Adams.
We loose discipline in defence, again too many players being drawn to the ball and not being aware of their opposite.
This game should have been a stroll after haltime.3 points but again many questions to be asked.
I got 9/1 for Celts to win by 3.
Wee man took big gamble not bringing on subs.Me thinks his head would bo on the block if they equalised.Job done though.
Mon the hoops
-
In retrospect we played the game out quite comfortably in the end
killie had about 10-20 mins after they scored then we were in control again
we had a few chances to kill the game off
boruc ..a real error but redeemed himself with agood save
defence ..most of the game were comfortable a real hairy 10 -20 min spell...Naylor`s crossing is woeful
midfield ..hartley great , ran the show, brown was very quiet ,aiden..great contro, final ball is often poor or never given..shooting hmmm JJ didn`t do much reminiscient of last year unfortunately
Wee Scott ..excellent worked very hard ..top class son
JVOH..worked a lot harder thought he came into the game
makings of a good partnership there
could have done without the squeaky bum time 30 mins at the end

agree with bhoymolloy and you, his distribution is shocking so why do we ask him to keep trying to cross the ball.
papac has no distribution either but he defends, naylor should not be allowed over the half way
line, then we couldn't moan about how bad he is in attack.

Bhoy_Molloy:

How dare Killie have a go at home, just not on eh ?
Despite 'having a go' they lost.
3 points.
Hail Hail.
-
Nelsbhoy - If they'd equalised (which they didn't so why mention it?) why do you claim Gordon's 'head would be on the block'?
This is exactly the ill-thought out nonsense I was referring to in my earlier post. Engage your brain before you blog please.
Well done the bhoys three points nearer the title.
-
Nelsboy 14:37
A defensive coach is something we have spoken about for about a year now. I think it would be a great addition.
-
Italiabhoy, I think you're being a bit harsh.
We played very well in the first half and were in complete control.
Admittedly it was more of a contest in the second half, but overall it was decent game.
You mention Brown, Hartley and McGeady as plus points, but then go on to criticise the midfield for being flat.
A bit of a contradiction?
-
McGraininSpain
Engage your brain my son.You know fine well what I meant. You cant deny we needed fresh legs in the second half.
Im perfectly entitled to opine on Ifs buts and maybe's.
-
McGeady needs to work on his finishing. If he can sort out that side of the game then I think he would be the best player in the league by a mile. He is certainly dangerous and works himself into positions to shoot probably more than any other player we have but he still doesn't score enough. He's quite unlucky often hitting the woodwork or just inches wide but maybe he is trying to place his shot too much and should to just make sure he gets it on target.
-
Would like to see this today...
-
14:53, Sean
Agreed. Aiden has clearly worked on his pace, needs to add something to his passing, but good to see he HAS improved a bit on his game.
-
Sean,
The best player in the league by a mile is Scott McDonald - what's he worth now? - 8, 9, 10 Million?
-
Another three weeks until the next league game, Aberdeen at home. Thank goodness the team got the three points.:-)
I think that JJ and JVoH being on the field helps when defending corners but understand that people wanted them to be replaced as the game reached the finish. Managers rarely do what we all tell them.
:-)
-

Nelbhoy - sure, I can guess what you meant but that is not what have written. And that is my point.
Of course are 'entitled' to write whatever you like. I am asking everyone to think twice before you make reference to losing our manager's services, for which there is no appetite here nor as far I can see is there any evidence of it being part of anyone's plans.
Just think about what you write. Doesn't seem hard to me.
C'mon the Caley Thistle!

In spite of the varying thoughts
In front of the varying thoughts
Celtic continue to top the table.
Cold mathematics.
McGrain - well said - quietly forceful too.
We should all be careful that we do not make our opinions into mountains - because mountains never move.
I watched the last 15 mins of Arsenal / Man U - I'd rather be Celtic.
Have a great weekend all.
This is a great place - we should be mindful to keep it that way.
Once again we have an unhappy Jefferies - that's worth a burst clean sheet any day.
People, help the people.

Curate's egg right enough.
Well done McDonald. He was lively, committed and dangerous. Great first goal from nothing.
JVOH now has a further 90 minutes under his belt.
Hartley finding his role.
Brown had a good first half but seemed to lose his way second halg.
JJ looked solid first half but was work shy second half and left our left flank exposed.
McGeady flattered to deceive and his end product apart from McDonald's goal was less than precise.
Defence seemed to suffer the second half malady after a comfortable first 45 minutes.
Lee Naylor seems to get a rush of blood when he gets a chance to put in a cross. Stay behind Lee and practise.
Artur redeemed himself with a crucial save after his error.
3 points from a tricky fixture and hopefully injury free for Tuesday.

PS It's raining goals in Newcastle. Portsmouth lead 3-1 after 22 minutes.

Great first half performance and an important win against a team that I always worry about.
Hartley is looking like a new(er) signing in that holding role. I hope Massimo was taking notes, as I think with a bit of Hartley's guile added to his game he could be cracking.
Excuse me if I continue to be surprised, but Henrik McDonald is starting to look like the next in a long line of Celtic scoring sensations: skill and pace in abundace, an eye for goal, and Celtic-daft into the bargain. Yaas!

I am a big fan of Gordon Strachan and what I was trying to say was that he may have been giving those who would wish his head on the block ammunition.
Indeed I did find that difficult!
-
i thought that was a good all round performance....some players are starting to come back to form...jarosik had an excellent first half...he tired and was less effective in the second...naylor did well...aiden was excellent, but eventually tired...we missed naka today, as all play came aidens way...
caldwell still very much a duck out of water at right back, however everyone else played well...especially mcdonald and hartley....agreed with the decision not to make substitutions today...a 15 minute spell aside, we ere very much in control for the entire game

After our agreement yesterday, I'm not sure where we stand.
To err on the side of positivity, let me just say well done to everyone who posted positive messages and sent positive thoughts to the Bhoys.
-
Nelsbhoy -thanks for that clarification. As you can tell from my tone I have become pretty concerned about some of the attitudes expressed here although admitedly no reason have I to question your support of WGS.
Let's keep it simple, we won, we're top o' the league and wee Gordon's giong nowhere!
Hail, hail.

I'm inclined to agree, but I think Caldwell did fine. All our trouble during that 15-minute spell came from dead-balls that we were very unlucky to concede — the one their goal game from, when McGeady was penalised, the most obvious — and down the left.
The consequence of this second point was that the whole midfield, with the exception of McGeady, sat very deep making Jarosik in particular less effective in the second half than he had been in the first.
But to return to Caldwell. The speedy Gibson caused Celtic some trouble in the 0-0 draw at Celtic Park on the first day of the season and may, possibly, have been one of the reasons McGeady played on the right, to make Gibson spend most of his time defending.
I think that worked. Caldwell was largely untroubled by Gibson before he came off.

Positivity.I think you have chosen the word of the day.I think at half time we thought there could be one of the best results in the making at this mini cauldren of bile.(Do Killie fans ever stop booing)I would really like Celtic To Pump them down there.
But im happy with the result and apart from that wee mad spell overall much better.
So yes Glass is half Full.

WGS doesn't make a sub today...

sdstim,
The curate's egg. Good in parts. Not sure of it's origin. Literature, I think. I'm sure someone who achieved more than an O level in English can expand.
-
First half fantastic. Second a bit too nervy. When you're only one goal ahead and you keep missing chances, you can't help getting anxious...
I'd like to think (hope?) Riordan would have got a wee run out if Killie hadn't pulled one back.
Jan slowly getting back to normal and McDonald was fantastic again.
Looking forward now to 4 back to back home wins...
Hail Hail
-
Tom the Tim and SDSTim
The phrase comes from a cartoon in Punch I think, from 100 years ago or more.
A bishop (Anglican) and a young assistant priest (the curate) are eating breakfast together and the curate gets a bad egg.
The bishops suspects as much from the smell of it, and asks the young man if his egg is rotten. The curate says: "Oh no, my Lord. I can assure you it's very good in parts."
So anything that is very good in parts is now known as a curate's egg.
-
Job done happy enough, would have loved a clean sheeet (Oh Artur (remember willo the wisp?))
I wouldn't give Riordan a game anytime soon, he isn't the future that much is clear and after his display at that very cold night at Dens doesn't deserve a sniff.
Mon the hoops!!
-
I don't think we should underplay how well Venegoor of Hesselink and McDonald did as a partnership.
The big man won lots of headers; the wee man picked up lots of the knock-downs.
-
With that silly band playing those silly wee tunes, Ibrox sounds like Trumpton.
-
TtT + C1st Thanks.
Positive spin on a bad egg, glass half full, like it!
-
Good game. Well done to Skippy, sometimes I feel he should look up and pass to a better positioned player, but if he keeps scoring, I can live with it. Great to hear McGeadys name sung from the fans. He's getting better and better. Paul Hartley deserves to be first choice centre mid after his last three performances. Jiri is still frustrating to watch as is Caldwell. No complaints though, bring on Benfica !
-
I'm still reeling at some of the vitriol hurled against the manager by "our own" , use that term loosely , I still can't understand it.
We cruised the first half with ease , then Artur caused us a nervous 5 minutes but other than that we were comfortable.
3 points , well deserved.
Big Jan impressed me. He's taken aback by the criticism he's received but got involved in the build up to goals today. Better finishing and we could have left 4-5 goals up.
We are the top scorers in British football. Best defense in SPL (I think) , top of the league and people like aviewfromabovethemineshaft think Gordon Strachan is inept?
Seriously , Arsene Wenger couldn't last in the Celtic job , nor Mourinho , Some would have them sacked if they lost a league game.
I just think they'll all lost gloryhunters from the MON era with bruised egos.
Me , personally I haven't seen better football like this in years.
I fear the spoilt egotists fuelled by the media will have their way and we'll revert to Houllier/hun type football to get results under a different manager.

Well the proverbial game of two half’s and a very poor crowd. Where was everyone who saw us win the league last year?
First half very comfortable with brown energetic until he was booked very perceptive Tom the Tim.
Jarosik looked lively (well for him) he jogged rather than ran.
Second half he tired and i wonder why as he has enough matches played now to be fit. Also the chance he missed will grace many a soccer AM line up.
McDonald did well and some nice link play with JVOH.
JVOH owes us big time and once match fit i hope he delivers.
Aiden once again with Hartley our best players.
Defence held the line well.
The shape was better with Donatie sitting where he deserves to be, on the bench.
We needed two decent hard working players in the middle and in the first half we got them with Brown and Hartley.
Second half brown was drifting in and out but he is young and a fine footballer.
First half the defence held up well but Naylor needs to be reined back and told don't try set pieces or crossing as it's not in his game.
Mcmanus is an enigma some fantastic blocking moves but god he loses his man as he does not have a footballing brain. If he did he would be world class as he has the heart of lion.
Second half we were once again tactically out thought and could not adjust. The collective mind of the crowd was willing strachan to make a substitution but he knew best and was proved right.
Boruc made an error but saved our bacon with a fine save.
The defence looked like rabbits in the headlights for about 20 minutes and the fact that the alleged Celtic target Nish is so garbage probably saved us from an undeserved draw.
I hope to god the rumours of his signing are not true.
We suffered down the right where Caldwell tried but lacks the positional experience that the role of right back demands.
You cannot fault his endeavour but the execution will be exploited by players of a better technical calibre than Kilmarnock.
All in all we deserved to win but we are lacking confidence at the moment and Benfica will be a very difficult match.
-
Many on here have been going on about WGS not making any substitutions today....could any of you please enlighten the rest of us as to whom you would have taken off, whom you would have brought on ..and more importantly what benefit you think would have accrued from the substitution
as was stated earlier JJ and JVOH were being used to defend corners ...JJ is the biggest guy in our squad
comfortable game today , we should have won by more

A little piece of observation for the detractors.
This season its mightily important to win the league. More so than any other year.
I could be wrong but I think there is only one Champions League space for the SPL this year. This means somebody from Glasgow is missing out on 10 million quid.
You still with me?
This is why the huns media are trying their hardest to undermine the manager. They're using divide and conquer tactics to spilt the support. They fuel your misguided speculation. Murray has spent his lot , walter is desperate as they know failure sets them back. If they don't make CL , any decent player they have will be sold. They can't be allowed to build on any foundations they layed down already.
So , we all must be united.
Put your personal issues aside because like him or loathe him , to loose Gordon Strachan now , would be fatal. We'd kiss goodbye to the title. The team comes first. No matter your personal opinion , first and foremost we should support our side through heaven and hell.
We all want the same thing , Celtic to prevail.
3-in-row , here we come.
-
Gweedore
there is a boycott ongoing because of the disgraceful treatment we have received by killie in the allocation of tickets over the years
celtic supporters desperate for tickets and a large number of empty seats
-
Paul67.
I go to most games home and away but could'nt manage to-days game,so decided to read the comments of the CQNers when I got home, very few derogatory remarks until the Killie scored, then all hell breaks loose.
It's a good job that the players cant read what written about them while their playing, but no doubt there will be a few that will catch up after a game.
Their reactions must be "why should I play for this lot, they must be the most ungrateful supporters on earth"I would'nt blame them.
We may be the best supporters on this earth while on our travels, very friendly with the natives when we're in party mood.
But we're certainly not the best supporters in the World when it comes to supporting our players,we would come nearer the bottom, than the top in that game.
I hated being a Celtic supporter after the bitter treatment of Evander Sno on Wednesday, and after reading some of the posts on the blog to-day,we are on the verge of becoming the most abusive supporters to our own team that I can remember,we need to knock this in the bud or we will stagnate into a bunch of moaning minnies, where nothing will please us.
And it DOES effect the teams performance on the park.
-
enrico
I believe the runners up will play in the qualifying rounds.
-
pfayr
Not against boycotts but at the moment, Bulls bits to that the team needed our voice today and people should put that behind them.
Lowest away support i have seen at killie for years.
Also sorry enrico but where is the personal issues bit coming from.
People want change because the structure is wrong not because they dislike strachan personally.
After what he did at killie end of the season and brought the kids on the park etc i personally really like the man. I just don't think he is the man to take us forward.
I still shout like mad for the team and contribute a large proportion of my income to following the club but my view and it's only my view is that he will go and it will be no bad thing for the club.
Also this idea that every journo in the world is looking at this site for negative stories means we should adopt a stalinist collective responsibility mentality is pure delusional clap trap.
This is a good site but not the biggest or most influential celtic site.
Celticminded or monthehoops perhaps but not here.

gweedorebhoy
Great to get the first half of a big double today. You're right, Benfica will be harder. Benfica will play better than they did in beating us in Lisbon so we still have to raise our game.
None of our 3 injured RB's will be fit for Tuesday so we'll have to get by with Gary's impression of a RB. He manages some aspects of the role well e.g running in support and attacking. He has problems with passing up the line and in defensive positioning; let's hope they're not exploited.
We have to keep going until January with what we've got. There is no chance to rectify it till then so we have to thole it as complaining about it now only drains energy.
If we win on Tuesday it will be a win worth really celebrating. A huge match for us. I hope to be able to add it to my memories of Celtic in recent CL campaigns- Juventus, Lyon, Benfica, Man U and AC Milan. We're having great times in Europe for the first time in 20 years.
-
John Galt ,
1. We cannot spend money in November on players. Should we have spent money in august , Yes. Is that Gordon's fault , No. Tell me a manager who wouldn't want more players. A question for the board. Will we address the situation in January? Hopefully. Criminal not too.
2. Are our players (notice their not assets to me) playing to their optimum , No. This isn't Championship manager for the PC , there are things called form , injuries and luck. Players have had to do different jobs for the Team.
3. Does this team have a UEFA cup final in them? Simple answer to this one , NO , we haven't qualified for the UEFA cup yet so we don't know till we play in this competition.
Does the defense not get me annoyed? Of course it does but I can understand when you have no natural full-backs other than Naylor then the unbalanced defense can be iffy sometimes. Added to Boruc lapses in concentration we could be better. Still we have one of the best defenses in the league considering our problems.
So ,
How d'ya like them apples?

I hope to eat so much humble pie in january when the board deliver the players we need and that i have bleated on about for months to the annoyance of so many.
However this is a blog not a social club so the ideal place to post views no matter how many times.
Do it in the pub and you drink alone lol.
Yes Benfica will be hard but if we use brown and hartley with naka and aiden out wide we will do it 1-0.
Donatie will unbalance the midfield and i hope he was dropped today as he deserved it not rested.
-
D'ye know what sometimes pees me off?
That JVoH is more often than not found behind a defender trying for a high ball than in front of them/him a la Sutton or Hartson.
We don't seem to be using space well just now - the space that Killie afforded us allowed Skippy to do a solo today.
Aiden is often unsupported by our midfield, so has to try the last piece of the puzzle himself (That part which makes a lot on here regard him as poor???????)
I think that our players are a season off of playing perfectly with each other - whether the flashes we see in bewteen then and now are enough to hold us... We'll just have to wait and see.
Also, I like Gordon Strachan - I love that he goes as close as a manager in Scotland can to telling our press to go and take a **** to themselves.
I hate that his term will not be remembered fondly because some fans have yet to move away from the 1960's coupled with the fact that we seem to have moved into a period where - if we are not buying the right players who perform immediately in a team that destroys all opposition, home and away, then it is just not good enough (Echoes of the belligerent hun support as they moved towards NIAR)
A wise man (Krishnamurti) talked often of the fact that if you spend your life desiring to be at position B you will be unhappy. You should first accept that you are at position A, then start your journey.
There's a lot of people on here talk only of the their aspirational destination for Celtic - it usually comes down to us beating everyone who is perceived to be lesser than ourselves - so, by dint domestically, winning every game.
Let me ask - how, perchance, did the AC Milan fans feel when their team went home to Italy with a 2-1 defeat in their hands - Happy in the fact they had met a superior footballing team which handed them a severe lesson in the game... OR effin raging that their mighty rosso e neri had not pumped Celtic?
Perspective.
To hope that Celtic win every game they play is only natural.
To expect it is downright foolish, though not completely unforgiven.
To demand it is to lose sight of our journey and plain wrong.
See when your having a bad day... just think...
the alternative does not bare thinking about...

Gweedorebhoy ,
There are people who dislike Strachan personally. Fans and media alike. As you may have noticed yesterday rumors were circulated maliciously about the manager with only one aim. The press feed on speculation like this , I know this personally.
You don't think he is the man to take us forward. Thats your opinion and your entitled to it. Sitting top of the league with impressive stats and a trophy haul to rival most greats and you think he's doing a bad job?
You say Donati deserves to be dropped. I say Not a chance. He's been settling in nicely. Scott Brown on the other hand was poor today again. If Donati was dropped then he should feel hard done by considering Browns iffy form. I don't think Browns a bad player but today he showed signs of fatigue early doors.

Who's to say that hasn't registered too?
I hope it's just a coincidence.
Plenty of people will tell you it's no longer a relevance, just like the roots of the bonfire and fireworks nonsense that surrounds us tonight.

Regarding the angry press conference yesterday. A bit of talk today has been that Gordon Strachan started off in a bad mood, perhaps because, he heard the rumours about him leaving the club and was ragin'.
What I would like to know is, what is Celtic's press office situation? Are they just watching the manager in the PCs or are they helping him? They should be helping and the more I think about it, they are failing miserably to allow the football man to keep his thoughts, time and energy for football.
Gordon just didn't need that yesterday, to my mind.
Sack the Press Office!
-
Abbot - Good point. Surely Celtic can set the ground rules for these cocnferences. Gordon needs a bit of training/ briefing, too - he sounded way out of his depth. I'd love to see John Reid chairing a press conference.

Default Urgent France Billet Info
The girlfriends cousin and uncle have just attempted to obtain their France Billet tickets from the shop in Barcelona and were knocked back, i repeat knocked back!
He has been instructed by the Police to pass NO tickets to Rangers fans, only spaniards or french!
The guy in the shop is english, a northerner, and speaks fluent french and spanish!
The burds cousin in from Essex and claimed to be an Arsenal fan, but even this didn't work, he said he was taking NO chances!
He suggested that everyone should contact France Billet asap.
The guy knows what a hard time he is in for on tuesday and is braced for the backlash!"
Apparently 1400 "bears" have bought tickets from France Billet.

Prices start at €95.
They were selling tickets for Barcelona league games too, so they must have some sort of official agency status.
I couldn't see anything that said you had to be a sophisticate from Spain or France and not, under any circumstances, a culturally challenged, monolingual (at best), tattoo-besplattered Berrrrrrr from Cumnock or some such benighted place.
This happened to me when we went to Barcelona in March 2004. I had to convince the ticket office to hand over a brief I'd bought from them on the phone but hadn't been able to withdraw from the ATM in time.
I managed it, just.
But there seemed to be a similar rule in place, that people from Scotland weren't to get in unless they were part of the official quota.
-
0-2 Valencia by the way. Morientes again.
-
I just wonder what you have to do to provoke a response. Other posts often seem just as vapid and shallow as mine, yet they elicit some sort of reply. Is it a seniority thing, or is there something I just don't get?
-
0-2 Full time. Morientes was the difference.

Stick with it Dennis.
Keep posting.

For what it's worth, I thought you made a great point yesterday.

Hail! hail! Dennis.
Quite often you don`t get a comment because posters are concentrating on making their own point. Which is? Why is it so much quieter when the Bhoys win? :-)

Goal Seville.
1-0 on 18 minutes.
Don't know who scored as Mrs First made me turn the volume down.
2-0. Adriano.
Keita got the first.
-
10th placed Milan draw 0-0 at home to 12th placed Torino. We can get a result there.
Sevilla go 2-0 up at home to Real Madrid.
-
Feeling a bit low since wednesday night and unlike others I avoid papers, net and TV.
Leaving my 5 year old on halloween to go to parkhead and watch that nonsense has a tendancy to get me down.
However I was told today Big Mick and Caldwell were also pucking at half time, has anyone else heard anything?
-
Cadena Ser are giving the second goal to Luis Fabiano.
I got Adriano from Radio Nacional de España.

Free kick in dangerous position for R. Madrid.

Guti took it and it came to nothing, in spite of Germán Burgos uttering the magic phrase: "Hay perfume de gol."
There is the perfume of a goal in the air.
I love it when he says that in his basso profundo Barry White voice but he's saying it far too frequently these days.

He comes from Fraserburgh, though, and I think claims to be an Aberdeen fan.
-
Evening all.
Finally got the hang of this blogger malarkey again.
I love how this site is a small snapshot of the Celtic support in general and certainly mirrors the opinions and disagreements that goes on within my group of friends and colleagues.
While not going as far as our manager yeterday, I agree that many elements of the media are out to make life difficult for Celtic, especially now Old Wattie has returned and while I don't neccessarily agree with many of the policies of the government John Reid served as an integral part of, I'm looking forward to him getting the bit between his teeth and hopefully taking the fight back to the forth estate.
Time to go. I've been scraping wallpaper all day and it builds up a hell of a thirst.
Adios and Hail hail to everyone.

re Curate's Egg, I tend to disagree as the curate's egg was deemed to be 'mostly bad' whereas I'd put our performance today in the 'mostly good' category :-
curate's egg n. British. Something that is bad, but is said to have both good and bad aspects or parts. [From a cartoon in Punch (November, 1895) showing a shy curate dining with his bishop. He has ben served a bad egg and when asked how it is, he replies that parts of it are excellent.]

Hi CF - looks like WG might have to stick this in his establishment pipe and smoke it - although it's early doors. Two great first half goals, the first in particular was a scorcher. The second was due to Kanoute's brilliant first touch. I love big FK.
I see more goals. C'moan the Sevilla! Back to the game.

Celtic First,
Are you watching the Seville/Real game on TV or listening on the radio?
It's been a terrific first half & both goals were excellent - you won't see a better struck shot than Keita's for the first & although Fabiano's was a scrappy finish,Kanoute's first touch to get the initial shot in was just sublime.
...and off goes Sergio Ramos as I type...
-
My beloved McGrain and Sellik First -
of course I'd like Real to win but I don't even bother watching Spanish fitba on tv unless it's the final day/clincher type thing. However, win, draw or lose, Real's result will not wipe the establishment smile off ma establishment big baw face this evening. Celtic are POINTS ahead at the contrived mini-break and I'd have bitten your rioja cradling paws aff fur that eftir oor trip to Megiddo.

You have caught me on a Rioja night, but the continuing friendly debate between McGrain and me is over the relative merits of Rioja and wines from la Ribera del Duero, which, coming from Valladolid and its environs, are the favourites in this house.
I was deeply disturbed by the Hokey Cokey. It could be a coincidence, but I've never heard them play it before and fear the worst.

evening all.
thought it for the most part looked it looked good today.middle to front looked ok mind you at times awful at the back so the curates egg tag seems apt.
back to yesterday press conference and wgs telling the media to basically gtf.totally correct.a line has to be drawn here.
we all know the press are full of the members of a blue persuasion ranging from the joke figures wee chick, both darryls to the absolute garbage graham clark(who called celtic squatters for going to hmpden in 1995),andy mcinness(mon wouldnt give him the time of day allegedly),roddy forsyth(why bbc 5 live give him a platform is beyond me),leggat, andy devlin and kingy..
The manager should be backed for his stance wholeheartedly.the few pro-celtic journos are minimalised.
the ranger couldnt get rid of ewing grahame quick enough and guys like paddy barclay and Ian McGarry wouldnt get a job with any of the rags up here while as sean south said on here recently he wouldnt get anywhere near a job up here once they knew who he was.the boss should be backed not slated..

Hi everyone,
Just a wee word. I’ve lost a bit of my usual interest in CQN recently due to too many numpties telling us how and why we’re so rotten.
TODAY WE GOT ANOTHER VALUABLE 3 AWAY POINTS.
I would have thought that our big, experienced JVoH would have been the man to do the business at the scoring end. I cannot believe seeing Scott MacDonald, a young, reasonably cheaply acquired, standby striker turning out to be the sensation that JVoH was expected to be. I’m so glad that Gordon Strachan had the foresight and nous to get this player. And not even that, he got him before Rangers, just like Scott Brown, and deprived our greatest rivals of these acquisitions who, I am convinced, will eventually go a long way to gaining our three in a row.
In my opinion, the team has not achieved what they could have, I thought our midfield would have been so potent it would have delivered our strikers with so many opportunities to score that it would have been just a matter of how many would they put in the net. This league campaign has turned out to be somewhat different, not really inasmuch as Rangers are stronger – we expected that anyway – but through a very vulnerable defence as a result of injuries, which has put the strain on the whole team.
We are blessed with a young striker who is scoring freely to win us points and matches, even in the Champions League. Who would have believed that Scott MacDonald would turn out to be THE Celtic hero so early in the season. You must remember, once again Celtic has been blighted with extra-ordinary injuries in the defence. Things haven’t been going our way, or as Gordon Strachan would have wanted.
It has been stated to death, and we all know, we wanted defensive cover. And I am sure that Gordon Strachan would have wished that, too, but couldn’t get that player that he required to come and play in Scotland (if it weren’t for the SPL, who wouldn’t want to play for Celtic?).
Going back to my opening sentence, although I read now and again what’s going on here, I just couldn’t be assed reading “supporters’” comments who IMO are simply incapable of genuinely supporting their team but take more pleasure in deriding our manager, certain players, and our board. I just couldn’t be bothered reading the regurgitated nonsense after a defeat. I ask myself how often is this going to happen: after each game even if we win it? When we lose? Or drop points? Or play badly? Or someone deems that someone has been played out of position? Or the team formation is not to someone’s taste? I ask you how often has Gordon Strachan made the substitution that has won us the game – another three points in the bag. These substitutions aren’t duly praised, but his non-substitutions are discussed at length. It disgusts me.
I just wanted to get that off my chest - like everyone else says on here - after not posting for a while.
Now, I’m looking forward to Benfica and somehow I want Celtic to win this game not just for Celtic’s sake, though, but so that I can enjoy reading this blog again, which means a lot to me as I live outside Scotland. I think some of you have got a problem. Maybe it sounds cheap, but get yourselves a life, get yourselves a girlfriend, if all you’ve got to do is moan, even though we are sitting top of the league and don’t have the worries you would seem to prefer us to have.

Oldtim67, agree, abuse of another individual is wrong no matter where it comes from or who it is given to.
Mabel, I agree with Collie, we were superb in the first half, but things went south in the second.
Abbot of.., the PR people are always on hand at press conferences, and will occasionally step in if a young player is asked something ‘below the belt’, but it would be a brave PR person to step in when the manager is speaking.
Welcome tomcellic, excellent name.
-
Evenin all.
Out all day with Mrs Oz and the munchkin, just finished watching a recording of the game. Thought we played well and had the game under control until Artur flapped and they scored. Next ten mins, we panicked. Survived it well though and Aiden should have buried his chance at the death.
Happy enough with the three points.
My only criticism would be no subs in the last ten mins.
Donati for Brown and Killen for JVH wouldn't have weakened the team and would have run the clock down a bit.
Still top of the league.
Bring on Benfica. Everyone must now get behind the Bhoys on Tuesday night. Three CL points and get back on track.
C'mon the hoops.

I can't imagine it's one of Jim Jeffries fave tunes cos it's a bit on the upbeat side.

Nice to see that Racing Club failed to celebrate their infamous 40th anniversary with a win.
They lost 0:3 at home to Boca Jnrs. Since that's the team that spawned Maradona, I'd like to believe that that was a victory for football over thuggery.
Now, if only we could get Atletico again in the CL.

amazingly me and ma mates were talking about BH in the pub before the game.....!!
He was always a favourite of mine and is a symbol of how things were before britain went PC-loco. My nephew who was with us said he could not believe what the BH Show was like on the reruns on UK Gold etc. Benny was/is massively popular in Germany and is really quite hard to analyse. I remember me and NAFOS having a good drink in Melrose the day he died. NAFOS still refers to me as BH from time to time - must be all the scantily clad women who chase me round ML2 (or my chubby form and specs - latter favourite I'd say).

Hatton is one tough guy. Not as easily cut now either. To me he is a complete fighter: skill, stamina, can brawl and has great finishing power. When you've got those qualities, you're hard to beat. Problem is, he's fighting Floyd. And he is also really good, he said, trying to be understated. Anyway, I fancy Hatton to win, because...I don't think ability on its own will be enough to win that fight....Who wants it the most will go a long way to deciding it.I think Ricky Hatton wants it more.
I'll not post the link becaude of the bad language involved but youtube has the Manchester press conference. Watch at your leisure.

While 31 away games without a clean sheet is concerning, I've just had a quick look and was interested to confirm a suspicion I had. We conceded only one goal in the vast majority (23) of those games, conceding two and three goals four times each. Works out at under 1.4 goals per game. Still dissapointing but I hope gives a better perspective.

morning to you
re league form:
for me a victory yesterday was absolutely essential as it keeps the darnel in their place for at least three weeks. Aberdeen sent out a strong message with their win over Dundee Utd yesterday and will not be underestimated when they arrive in G40. The darnel will be away from home and they've not had their troubles to seek on the road. Unfortunately the postponement of this weekend's fixtures has lessened the pressure on the huns to arrest their awayday blues.
Celtic's troubles away from home are less than the darnel's. Our inability to secure a clean sheet is being magnified whilst the huns' inability to secure a victory is being minimised and in some quarters ignored.
Finaly hun reverses in the league are being swept under the carpet of their cup form, Celtic's cup form to date has been another rod with which we are beaten yet watty and his henchman claim the league title is the number one target.
We've been top of the table for most weeks out of the last 100 or so and here come another three.

Great day yesterday. Great first half from the hoops/McDonald followed by outstanding second half by Carlisle!
Cheers DBBIA it was a very enjoyable day. Dannybhoy was singing the praises all the home.
Back in Ticland they said it couldn't be done again - buying a superstar for £700,000.
I would like to see someone else chip in with the odd goal. Only one other player has scored since September 26th if you count the first against Milan as an OG.
However it certainly won't be Lee Naylor. 64 not out but still awaiting his first goal. He joins a long lists of non prolific left backs.
-
I expected the darnel to bite into our goal difference yesterday but there was only a one goal swing their away. I would normally expect more than a one-goal swing when we're at home and they're away. I'm sure the stats would support me on this point given our margins of victory in home fixtures so far this term. Our 0-3 loss at Megiddo has been the saviour of their goal difference.

Yesterday, clean forgot it was an early KO until I saw some of the posts on here! Cleared my social calander tout suite and sat down with a huge mug of tea to watch the victory of the CHAMPIONS.
Thought, like most it seems, that we had a good 1st half, then a nervous period after their goal, then picked up again to a lesser extent. Overall pass marks, but when are we going to lose Scott Broon to a suspension? Does anyone have a record of what players are on how many yellows to date? And when do the suspensions kick in? Is it after 5 yellows? Or more?
Your time starts . . . . . . . NOW!

Morning bhoys and ghirls,
Glad to see the result has made everyone chipper again.
A solid result and performance in a game I thought could have been tough -- dont forget it took a last minute Naka special to win last season when we were playing for the league.
Anything other than 3 points would have been a travesty -- better team by miles IMHO.

Celts Boss Is On A Loser Even If He Wins
Nov 4 2007 Gordon Waddell
Strach's On Loser Even If He Wins
YOU might as well just get out now wee man. Clear your desk. Pack your bags.
Because nothing you do will ever be good enough.
You could win the title for the third year on the bounce and get out of the groups in the Champions League while singing 24-hour remixes of the Fields of Athenry and Sean South of Garryowen over the Parkhead PA - and they'd want you out because you couldn't hit a high C.
So why bother? Maybe it's just me being a fan of a diddy team. Maybe I don't get the "Old Firm mentality". The expectation.
But - listening to so many Celtic fans carping on about Gordon Strachan last week - who the **** do they think they are?
Since their centenary year in 1988 Celtic have won six titles to Rangers' 13. Strachan has claimed two of those in as many years and is leading the current SPL championship race.
The last guy won seven trophies in five seasons and went to a UEFA Cup Final. Strachan wins four in two and did something Martin O'Neill never did - took his team into the last 16 of the Champions League.
Yet one's sainted and one's tainted? How does that work? Listening to the arguments against Strachan is amazing.
They tell you he has presided over two of the worst results in the club's history against Clyde and Artmedia. Then they write off two of the best against Manchester United and AC Milan as flukes.
They tell you about his dodgy buys like Thomas Gravesen, Jiri Jarosik and Adam Virgo. But they ignore the transfer success stories like Artur Boruc, Scott Brown, Shunsuke Nakamura and Scott McDonald.
Or the fact he took Stephen McManus, a guy about to go out on loan to Livingston, and turned him into a Celtic captain and Scotland star.
The thing that gives me the biggest laugh is that Strachan isn't the man to take them to "the next level".
Why can't they get it into their heads? There is no next level for Celtic right now. They are at their level.
Winning titles at home and scrambling to mix it with Europe's best. That's as good as it's going to get.
They've hit their glass ceiling and Strachan is banging his little ginger napper off it. The same as Walter Smith does at Rangers.
Because to reach this mythical next level simply changing manager isn't going to cut it. That's just shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic. Do they honestly think that by bringing in a Davie Moyes, Roy Keane or Mark Hughes they're actually going to do any better than Strachan with what he had available?
And if you want Celtic to look higher up the managerial ladder do you actually believe a Guus Hiddink or a Jose Mourinho would be remotely interested in taking the job with the resources that are currently there?
When fans bang on about this "next level" I assume they're talking about beating Europe's big guns regularly.
But that's going to take a cataclysmic change in the boardroom and every other room at Parkhead.
If Peter Lawwell suddenly sanctions £4million a year for the Special One and gives him another 40 on top for spenders, then maybe. No guarantees, as Spurs would tell you, but maybe.
But as long as Celtic are more concerned with their balance sheet, as long as they continue to sell guys like Kenny Miller on deadline day without replacing them, changing the guy in the dugout won't make any difference.
I know Strachan doesn't help himself with his media persona. I've never had it - in the nine years since I first met him he has been a pleasure to deal with. Always answers his phone, never ducks a question.
But I've seen him annihilate some of my colleagues and cringed. He doesn't need to do it. He could make life so much easier for himself if he just played the game a bit. He doesn't.
Which maybe explains why guys in the media don't take to him.
But it doesn't explain why, if you took a straw poll going into Celtic Park on Tuesday night, half the punters would want him gone.
And even if they beat Benfica that number wouldn't change on the way out. Which is why he will never win.

That is an outright lie.
Still it's a bad day when one of the most anti-Celtic columnists ever-
is purporting to show sympathy for the Celtic manager.
-
can't agree on the comment that waddell is one of the most anti-Celtic columnists ever-
there are far worse than him around....most of what he wrote in the article was pretty acurate, i suspect he is wrong about half the support wanting rid of the manager....saying that half the support get frustrated by the manager at times would be more accurate
-

count me in on the ribera del duero side....but better than both are wines from priorat, and as they are closer to barcelona, just west of tarragona to be exact, they have a little extra added provenance....
-
A friend sent me a text message on Thursday saying that Strachan has to go. I thought, `where did that idea come from?` Of course he does buy the Record and the Sun.:-)
Gordon Strachan is doing fine for our club and articles like that of Mr Waddell`s are only there to attempt to unsettle the support and the club.
A more fickle support? Listen to the sainted tartan army!
-
Waddell has a point though.
Its good for the masses to read such an article because I've seen the very same arguments debated for a week on various message boards.
The reason ?
Most of the masses believe the rags as gospel. When the media start telling them the same as we do then some will start to believe it.
-
big liam,
You are spot on about the power of the press. I've lost count of the number of times over the years I have heard supposedly educated and intelligent people argue that something in the papers just must be true. After all the Sun/ Record/ some other rag wouldn't print made up stories would they??

Noel wrote:

It's not sympathy, it's part of the same 'rumour' from Friday. The pressure is maintained / increased. The tactic is crystal clear. Who's behind it? Rangers and their PR magicians.
Editorial meeting room The Daily Anything / Sunday Anything:
Right what's going on?
Rangers away form in the league;
Route one football;
Boumsong transfer - Ibrox offices police raid;
Rangers being invited to be Associate Members of the G-14, while Celtic are invited to be full members. Why the different status? Has someone at Ibrox been sleeping?;
No. That's not for us. let's go with the 'Gordon really should go, for the sake of his own poor wee health, poor lad, awe sin, why does no-one like him"
Aye right!!!!

Oh dear, that Sunday Mail article was frightening. Take a half-truth (Celtic fans and their expectations), mix it with a whole lot of conjecture (the names mentioned) and add just the right amount of blantant lies (half of the support want Strachan out) and you have a pretty lethal dose. The press will stop at nothing this year to stop us getting the 3-in-a-row that will leave Rangers on Desolation Row. As someone said yesterday, we cant simply begin a Stalinist regime and toe the party line (if we had done that over the years our beloved club may be no more) but we do have to be aware of the dark powers at work in Scottish football. Enlightened and positive discussion is one thing, but booing players, leaving matches early and general in-fighting will just play up to the agenda.
-
The current media campaign could be just the thing we need.
There is nothing like a siege mentality for pulling fans together.
If the press keep going with the negatives on Celtic it could ahev the opposite effect the media hope for.
For every Riordan and Balde there is a Naismith,Burke or Ehiogue.

fighting the fuzz
I saw a classic example of thwe kind of dafties we have on Wednesday.
A group of 4 men in their 40s moved roud to sit in the Celtic end for the second half.
They spent the whole half slaughtering JVOH and Sno.
One of them actually said he was glad Sno gave the ball away for the second goal!
I eventually snapped when they were discussing McGeady playing for Ireland. A couple of them agreed he deserved a hard time from other club's fans for not playing for Scotland!
-
Waddell didn't have to work too hard on his research, did he?
All he had to do was scan this and other Celtic sites to get his slant.
You may argue about percentages of anti Gordon people, but it has all been said here in the "privacy" our our "own place".
I posted this the other night and 1 feel it is relevant to the situation.
" At 02/11/07 22:06, Tom the Tim said…
20:58, setting free the bears
I don't think that I have read a more concise and accurate summary of the mindset of those Celtic supporters who supply the media with the bullets to fire at Gordon and the club.
These are the people that my late father referred to as "anti-Celtic, Celtic supporters. In those days, their guff was confined to the pub or the bus,i.e. only audible to those unfortunate to be within earshot.
Since the advent of the Internet, they have their own media outlet with which to undermine the club.
I think it was Terry O who condemned people for criticising the manager on phone-ins, then suggested that blogs like this was the place to do it(?) Nobody reads this site, do they?
There is not one Celtic supporter who does not recognise the weaknesses in the team. Equally, there is not one Celtic supporter who knows what goes on in the background of the club.
Consequently, there is not one Celtic supporter who is qualified to offer criticism of selection or any other aspect of team matters.
We all have opinions, but unless you can be positive, keep them to yourself.
Otherwise, you are working for our enemies."
-
Indeed. I worry that massive sections of our support are morphing into mid-90s huns: leaving very early, booing players, demanding wins like it's a God-given right that we beat everyone, and hardly even singing at games. I was pretty raw on Thursday and criticised Sno a littke, but I'd never boo a Celtic player. The poor boy was a nervous-wreck. There was a time when Celtic's geographical location, lack of spending-power and status as a Scottish club were all somewhat offset by our passionate and loyal fans, but I worry that soon this wont be the case when we come to attract players.
-
A long run of wins will do us fine.
The results on the park matter, even if it's only to take the wind out of the sails of those with an anti-Celtic agenda.
The best way for this to stop building up any more momentum is good wins and good performances on the park.
Come on the Hoops: today, tomorrow, always.
-
Tom the Tim, I agree with you. I dont think we're going to see a situation whereby we come on here after a defeat and claim that all is sweet and rosey, but we do need to keep things in moderation and avoid being anti-Celtic.
We seem to be doing a pretty decent job of self-policing when it comes to stamping out bigotry at Celtic Park. What will it take for us to stamp out the negative swines that Tom the Tim's Dad was talking about?
-
Lostrambling, the folks at the Celtic end are a tough crowd to please.
I sit in 114 in the Lisbon Lions lower and swap ends at half time when I can.
It's a different crwod over there. Sure, 114 has the odd moaner, but regardless of where I'm sitting I'm never too far away from a nutter.
Wednesday night was a case in point. Given the poor attendence it wasn't difficult to find a seat.
I wish I'd stayed back in 114.
We ended up behind 4 morons who didn't have a good word to say about anyone.
Sno in particular was a target for their ire; being constantly referred to as "ganja man".
All around us there were people up on their feet screaming obscenities at anyone in the Hoops.
Shocking stuff.
Needless to say most departed as sonn as Hearts' second went in.
I've rarely found my trips over to the Celtic end to be a pleasurable experience.

I was wondering why Artur came out for the ball yesterday. He usually stays on his line in this situation. I think he noticed that the defenders had been hemmed in by the Kilmarnock attackers and this allowed Wright to come in behind the his forwards. A goal straight from American football.

Fighting The Fuzz Since 1888'
We used to arrive home after a Celtic defeat and my mother , who would have heard the result, would mimic us by saying; "that's it. I'm no' going back. Big Shughes is a puddin'"
We can all moan at a bad performance or result, but it has to be in context and at no time harm the club.
The irony is that this site, which by it's name, was set up to counteract lazy journalism, has actually allowed the hacks to become lazier.
You will rarely, if ever, read any positive extracts from Celtic cyberspace, but every negative thought will be stored away for future use in the Siege of Celtic.
Let's not make it easier for them.
This is War.

strange comment yesterday from GG
"McGeady flattered to deceive and his end product apart from McDonald's goal was less than precise."
So other than providing the cross for the winning goal he did nothing!! I for one am happy if that is his only contribution for every game.
There is a strange mentality within the celtic support just now and many on here have commented on it.
During Rangers dominance in 90s i used to take solace that we had the better support as we took thousands away from home played to thousands at home who got behind the team and any victory was savoured and relished. Meanwhile Ranegrs fans seemd to think they had a divine right to win every game and narrow wins and draws treated with calls for managers head.
Not long into MON era i commented that it has only taken us a few years of succes to turn into something that took around 8/9 years of success ibrox way.
We demand wins, we demand big wins, we think we have a divine right to win every game. How dare the home side have a bit of pressure or god forbid chances against us. How dare the away team have possession at parkhead. How dare we only win 1-0 at home.
How dare our young home grown winger not beat his man every time or find a celtic man with every ball. If he doesnt we will jeer and heckle. How dare every pass or tackle not come off for our players, we will groan and berate when this happens.
That is not support. A lot of phsycophants in our support totally live on TGFITW myth and love going abroad to show other countries what great sporting guys we are, you can take us anywhere. Yeah thats nice but supporting your team is what counts to get this title. We dont have a support worth speaking about these days and wednesday summed it up.
In the dark days of the 90s we had a core support of 17000 at home and these are our core support still. A look at the main stand every game and it is full (including wednesday) it is also the last place to clear unlike the rest of the stadium that empties with 10-15 to go every week.
There are other pockets like this around the stadium. The positive of the bigger stadium is the revenue it brings but the negative seems to be a lot of bandwagon jumpers who arrive when the good times start to roll again.
Dont know the answers but it would be nice to get back to a support that backed the team, took defeat on the chin, encouraged players, allowed them to express themselves, allowed them to misplace passes, and stayed for the full 90 minutes. Dont think that will ever happen again at parkhead (except in the big chanps league game but thats when its easy to be a supporter, at home to the likes of st mirren is when it counts) and that makes this supporter very sad.
Well done the club on a great win in a difficult place, but for one lapse good chance that game could have ended 4/5 nil and this blog would have been a different place.
A good many on here will have had to store their post for another week before telling everyone i told you so on the next occassion we have the temerity to not win a game handsomely.
