Boruc contract and ongoing negotiations

I am actually beginning to enjoy ‘Boruc set to leave’ stories.

This morning’s has the hallmarks of a modern classic. Despite Peter Lawwell confirming at last month’s AGM that Artur Boruc was not set to enter the last year of his contract in the summer, and contrary to old media reports, would be unable to exercise an ‘Andy Webster’ type clause, this issue has been raised and reported on a slow news day in Scotland.

What was not reported, is that Celtic and Artur have started negotiations on a new contract. Artur is looking for a significant increase in remuneration, as is his right, but Celtic can hold him to his existing contract until 2010. I expect a new contract will be completed in due course.

Not only will we hear the obligatory denials from the player that he “said no such thing”, but on this occasion, I understand the Polish journalist Artur spoke to will also deny the accuracy of what has been reported in Scotland.

Just another day reporting Celtic news.

It's funny how Celtic's best players/managers are always on the verge of leaving, according to the Laptop Loyal.

It's become a Scottish sports meedja cliche, much like the one about Dignity FC beating the likes of Man Utd, Juventus, and Barcelona to sign their superstar players.

I don't know if the Boruc story is true and obviously I want to believe Paul67's version of events. If it does turn out to be complete fabrication, like the STV "story" earlier this season, it really does beg the question whether hunnic "journalists" have any shame whatsoever.

    Paul,

My information (yes i know its old news)came from a very good source - If in the January when we signed Miller for £17,000 per week we had offered Maloney the same or I`m sure £16,000 would have clinched it - rather than offer the then double his wages - but still well short of funnily enough his final offer!!(which was more than miller was on!!!!) the one he was going to sign until the phone call!

I think you get my jist- anyway Boruc will have to be offered a hefty wage rise to make him the highest paid player at the club - are we ready to up the wage structure a little or are we going to let him go ? after all he does bring bad headlines does`nt he.

  • At 11/12/07 13:14, BigChipSuk said…

Theragswerepublicansdisdain, if we count the one I deleted (because the establishment team wasn't ready), and ignore Paul's post (because he is the host and therefore not allowed to compete for awards & records), then I have indeed recorded a world record equalling 9-in-a-row! But no doubt the establishment meeja will still manage to put a negative spin on it, or write it off on some technicality.

All this speculation by tired, old media hacks is to take the pressure of their beloved bears in blue who will be pumped by Lyon tomorrow night.

    Ignore it.

I hope the SSM does all he can to keep Artur. Its no accident we have qualified for the last 16 twice since he has been between the posts underlining the need at that level for real quality.
And he is bloody good at winding up the Darnel as well.

Shall we start our forecasts for tomorrow night?

Go on, I'll get the ball rolling:

    Rangers 1 Lyon 2
(Lyon to score first, and second.)

I've often been wary of "the media is out to get us" paranoia. Quite often we're guilty of selecting only the negative stories, which serves to skew our perspective.

One thing I have definitely noticed however, is that there always seems to be a lot of speculation around our players leaving. It's always one of two scenarios, our best players are constantly being eyed by 'big' clubs or are itching for a move to a 'better' league, or our fringe players are frustrated by the lack of first team action and are desparate to play in english league 1.

There is very little or no speculation linking Rangers players with a move. But then I've always put this down to the fact that they're all pish.

A little paranoia is a very healthy thing, so they say.

The basic problem with the squad[ if you exclude injuries and players banished to Gordon's Naughty Step/pe] is that the players we have lost have been replaced by players of inferior ability. Except for ABoruc. What I hope we're saying to him is don't worry Artur, you're not Paul Mcstay. We'll put players of a decent calibre in front of you.

In the meantime, good news for Antrim Bhoy as I've found Jennifer lurking

Huns currently bricking it about the Lyon game

huns given a postponement that sheep are denied

huns striker Cousin slagging them off in the press ( interesting that there has been no follow up on this)

meanwhile celtic draw last 2 games , depleted injury hit squad to play 5th game in 13 days .....try to stir up the camp

whilst defecting attention from DARNEL ...predictable but nonetheless saddening

thanks for that Paul, reassures me a little bit anyway (until anything is signed and sealed..)

This is a tricky one, Celtic have a wage structure that they will not break and that is understandable and necessary, however there will always be a grey area.

If you have someone, who is willing to stay, but you may have to break that rigid wage structure, do you refuse and stick to that wage stucture, and not break it for lets say £500k a year (or just short of £10k a week, the difference between £25k a week and £35k a week)
If you stick to that wage structure, in Arturs case, what do you have to spend and on how many personnel to maintain at the same level?
We wont be able to get a keeper as good, and therefore to maintain at the same level, we would probably need 3 new defenders, better defenders than we have that would be good enough to help prevent the kind of goal scoring opportunities the holy goalie saves us from time and time again, from happening in the 1st place.
Each of those better defenders will command a higher wage than the current ones and the transfer fee gained from the sale would be wiped out, so its actually possible that the overall wage bill will increase.

(This is obviously a simplistic way of looking at it but im keeping it like that so my point is clear)

(and also because we need at least 3 new defenders anyway!!! : )

Or could we offer Artur "a Henrik", where we put him on the maximum possible salary under the current pay structure, then if the shortfall on what we might have offered is £10k a week over a 3 year contract, we promise him a bumper £1.6M "testimonial" game at the end of his contract.

Alternatively, how many million fans do Celtic have worldwide? I'd happily pay £1 a year to keep Artur. Times say 2 million fans = £2M per year or circa £40k per week...

I don't get the opportunity to see the headlines down in England (thankfully) but is there much on Kris Boyd wanting to leave and Mcleish wanting him? What about rumours of Mcleish wanting Ferguson and any other good Rangers player? It should be considering the logic used for the Celtic stories.

I wouldn't be too harsh on Walter Smith for allowing his players to feast on beer, pizza, and ketchup etc, after all if he forced them to take a professional approach he will get the same response as his predecessor.

Notwithstanding the draw for the CL last 16, and the TFOD game in the new year,
players contracts and the transfer window is about all that will be talked/written about for the next few weeks.
It seems to be like a poker game with a lot of bluffing and a lot of SPIN....

I think Celtic are better than most clubs at playing it, and getting it right i think Lawell palys hard, as he should.

we hold the aces in getting players in with CL games all but garenteed, this is why we got Boruc and Naka but this is also why their value has increased 10 fold, so i believe we should cash in if their not 110% HOOPS men.

We sold Petrov at the right time as his heart was no longer in glasgow 'ideas above his station' how many have did that only to regret it later....
anyway since he has left we've twice qualified for CL last 16....

it's not the end of the world selling your top stars Ajax did it for decades.
P.S. I blamed the Bratislava away defeat on our midfield going AWOL did anyone else see it that way, because i really thought if they TURNED up on the return leg we could have easily took 5 or 6 off them... c'est la veie

Paul67. "Just another day reporting Celtic news."

Paul, you might be enjoying the news about Artur but I am certainly not enjoying the so called news/transfer spec about that renowned goal machine that is "Kyle Lafferty"

Just look at his stats while playing for Burnley.

Last Season He had 16 starts plus 21 games where he came on as a sub but only managed to score 4 goals.

This Season He has had 17 starts plus 3 games where he came on as a sub but has managed only 2 goals. Disturbingly he was substituted himself in 12 of his 17 starts.

please tell me that these reports are also untrue!.........please!

If Lafferty signs for Celtic then he'll say goodbye to his career playing for the 6 counties. These hateful shower of fans will hound him should he decide to sign.
I personally hope he doesn't as he's as useless as his stats suggest.
