In-form Inverness face busy Celtic

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have won their last three league games and have not conceded a goal (home or away) for over a month, form which has lifted them from the relegation area to a point behind Hearts in mid-table.

Their two goal defeat of Hibs last week on the back of a victory at Tannadice should be more than enough to alert Gordon Strachan to the potential of dropping league points for the third time on four games.

Come Sunday, Celtic will have a five day break since their last game against Falkirk, the longest they have enjoyed since real football resumed on 24 November after the international break. It is clear this intense series of games has affected the team; Gordon Strachan often mentions the lack of training ground time players get when they have to prepare for, and rest after, two games a week. Fatigue also seems to have taken its toll; Scott McDonald in particular looked listless near the end of the Falkirk game.

The contrast between the Falkirk and St Mirren performances could hardly be more marked; straight from kick off against Falkirk we could see Celtic’s intent to win the game, something I think is a rare occurrence. Is it just me, or do you think Celtic have been slow to get into games in recent months?

The players need to dig deep and find one more performance before a six day rest ahead of facing Hibs at Celtic Park on 22 December, I am looking for Scott Brown to pick up where he left off on Tuesday.

No I dont know the author. I have never heard previously and have no idea who he/she is or how old.

As I have mentioned before our present customer base demands success to the level of being abusive. That´s what they are paying for. To be associated with winners - nothing else. Once we stop winning and we will. It will be absolutely fascinating to see how we adapt to that situation when it arises and what changes will be witnessed because of it.

I think even though it was a heavy stew I would always stick with a white for a bunny- a fragrant riesling, viognier etc.
People often mix it up with hare which is a lot bloodier hence a good red but I suppose it is game so a light pinot noir would have been nice.

I can have sympathy with this article but the following?

"New Celtic fans will be well aware of the club’s Irish links. However he will always stress that this is in the past and is history. Celtic is now most definitely a Scottish club. There will be little time for the old breed Celtic supporter – the supporter who might support the Irish national team rather than the Scottish national team having watched decades of abuse of Celtic and its players by the Scottish Football Association. This will mean little to the New Celt who can never understand why a person born in Scotland could not support ‘his own country’. As for Aiden McGeady, some will whisper that he's a traitor to his country. Leave history beside the politics at that door."

As a Scottish born of Irish descent OLD Celtic Supporter who attended his first match in 1956 and my first Scotland International in 1957 I would suggest that your man should " away and bile his heid" Celtic always was a Scottish Club formed principally by Irishmen to unite not to divide. These comments I find divisive and insulting to Scots Celtic supporters. We should celebrate all that we are not just a part of it. That indeed would differentiate us from others.

There is a bit of generalization going on with that comment also. I find a lot of young Celtic fans to be the ones who promote the Irish-ness of Celtic the most albeit not always with a mature 'heid' on, which makes me think of a time on a bus in Clydebank were a couple of 14-15 year old neds on the bus shouting IRA etc trying to wind others up. I find a lot of younger fans really appreciate the Romanticism of the the Irish links to our club which is great, but there are some who rather adopt certain aspects of our relationship for unsavory reasons which is disappointing.

Yeah I've branched away from my original point a little but what I was trying to say was that Celtic's Irish history is not something which new fans tend to ignore.

    Derbyshirebhoy,

As a proud Scotsman, Celtic supporter and Scottish national team supporter I find his/her comments accurate and spot on. The author does not say or intimate that Celtic is not a Scottish club. To say anthing else is not based in fact. It would be a lie of course unless Ryanair got involved;-)

What he is hinting at in his article is that there are Celtic supporters who are becoming more and more marginialised by "sanitized" Celtic. Whether it´s financially or through some kind of modification of a percieved ethos (i,e politics, singing etc) or those Celtic supporters born in Scotland and supporting Ireland first are also now becoming marginalised.

Your "away and bile yer heid" retort just proves it.

Like Celtic Carlisle have ropped daft points lately but they'll make it an interesting afternoon for Barry Hearn's snooker loopy Os. Dont be shocked if Carlisle pocket all three points, and leave their visitors needing snookers.

Anyways, UEFA Cup round of 32 starts Feb 14th. For the good of Scottish football we need to start petitioning now to get the Rang### v Falkirk, and the Killie v Rang### games postponed, to give the Wattmeister more time to prepare. Given events on Wednesday some improvement could be made on the way Mcgregor collected the ball from the back of the net.

Ed, I'll probably get stick from my fellow fans on here for this but unlucky for going out, Rangers gave the group a fairly good go especially considering you weren't given much of a chance before the tournament began. I only saw the highlights of the Lyon game so I can't comment on that but the first game away and the victory against Stuttgart were good, particularly the former which was a brilliant result. Lyon deserved to go through in the end but you kept on fighting until the end and on another day you might have got stole a point. I'm not saying you should have taken points against Barca but I think Smith's negativity against them and his unwillingness to chase after the points even when losing was setting the wrong message. It doesn't matter who it is you're up against you have to go for the points in a group format particularly when you're already quite low seeded. Every point counts, with Celtic beating Milan and Man U, as well as you winning beating Lyon away shows that we're more than capable of winning against the odds.

Sean :- I couldn'tdisagree with anything you say, if you are going to get beaten by a team like Barcalona then why not get beat having a go, that way you might just get something.
To my mind the problems the other night were multiple, among them a lack of teamwork, a lack of any variation in play, too much reliance on a hopeful ball into the area from the mddle and not one player playing to his potential. I normally don't comment much on a game til I've watched it again n the box but no way am I watching this one again.

    Paul,

’The contrast between the Falkirk and St Mirren performances could hardly be more marked; straight from kick off against Falkirk we could see Celtic’s intent to win the game’

Haven't posted for a while so bad form coming on and being a bit negative BUT I've been thinking this for some time!

A wee while back you posted an article on this teams inconsistency – too true!

    BUT

    Inconsistency & Predictability??????????????

At first sight can seem counter-intuitive, however Celtic have proven this season it’s

    NOT

We are struggling to build on last seasons dominance of the SPL

    Totally predictable

We managed to get through the group stage of the Champions League BUT our away form was poor

    Totally predictable

Our Scottish Cup run falters and dies

    Totally predictable

Injuries have taken there toll on vulnerable positions – i.e. allowing a world class team to target young O’Dea lacking in match practice and playing out of position.

    Totally predictable

SOOOOOOOOOoooooooo it dis’nae take a genius to make a few more Predictions

In January Celtic will fail to strengthen to the required level and fall in Europe’s next hurdle

The SPL will be tight right to the wire and Rangers will win it by a nose

Am I the only malcontent who thinks where we are is just NOT good enough and we need to raise the BAR – It’s what the Ghuys promised when Gordon took over and I for one would like to see it delivered, GS said it would take him three seasons to build the team he wanted!

ImHo we need to be much MORE consistent and much LESS predictable!

Chairbhoy as part of the pedantic squad on this blog, we are still in the Scottish Cup, you have confused it with the League Cup. Or away form in Europe is quite poor but it is improving all the time, (Moscow e.g.) and who knows it might get better in the next round, WE ARE STILL IN IT, and I believe we will improve there. I'm what you called a cheap Optimist if its my round my pint is always half-full if it is your round it is always half-empty.

    The Narrowbhoat Tim, Brian,

Apologies it wouldn’t a post of mine without the odd factual error - of course I meant the League Cup, Moscow was good however so was the Nou Camp, we’ve managed an away performance from time to time – therefore I believe the predictability thing still stands.

True we ARE in it we are top of the league and we ain’t doing to badly

    BUT

I’m a pragmatic optimist, with the level of performance we are seeing at present we need a bit more Pragmatism and slightly less on the Optimism, hope your pint is more than half full very soon!

Paul67 I don't think it's as much Celtic being slow starters, as teams that play us are UP for it and we gradually wear them down..
The last 12months were probably the best in the buisness at it.

I have a passion for big odds value bets HT/FT is the current fix
losing/HT win/FT pays over 20s it's a torture at times but when it comes up, 20s for Celtic just to win a game can't be bad, and you don't half enjoy the second half.

Falkirk came to play, Hearts and St Mirren never that helped us
As for the fatigue it has been a factor coupled with the injury toll
I'm a great believer in mental fatigue and the the biggest boost we will have next week is looking forward to the draw for the last 16 then going out the next day and gubbing Hibs we owe them one and they won't have big Art to help them this time.

It would be interesting to know who the comeback kings over the last year or so was for say the SPL EPL if anyone had the stats

    On next season's Champions League...

We may or may not go straight into the CL groups next season, assuming we do the business in the SPL this season. I believe the changes to the qualification criteria (which weight it even more in favour of England, Italy & Spain!) take effect from the 2009-10 season.

Next season, as things stand the SPL Champions will only gain automatic entry to the CL group stage if the CL winner this season has already qualified for next season's group stage by virtue of their own domestic performance.

The current country rankings are as follows, with the number of automatic CL group qualifiers for each:

    1 Spain 2
    2 England 2
    3 Italy 2
    4 France 2
    5 Germany 2
    6 Portugal 2
    7 Romania 1
    8 Netherlands 1
    9 Russia 1
    10 Scotland 1?

Of the 16 teams remaining in the CL only Fenerbahçe & Olympiacos come from countries not ranked above Scotland, so we definitely don't want either of them to win the CL this season! The other teams, with their current domeatic league positions are:

    Real Madrid (ESP) 1
    Barcelona (ESP) 2
    Sevilla (ESP) 9
    Arsenal (ENG) 1
    Manchester United (ENG) 2
    Chelsea (ENG) 3
    Liverpool (ENG) 4
    Inter Milan (ITA) 1
    Roma (ITA) 2
    AC Milan (ITA) 10
    Lyon (FRA) 1
    Schalke 04 (GER) 7
    Porto (POR) 1
    Celtic (SCO) 1

So it looks like our best route towards an automatic CL group place for next season would be if this season's CL is won by Real Madrid or Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea (probably), Inter Milan or Roma, Lyon or Porto.

    Or CELTIC.

Evidently Celtic have further injury worries ahead of Sunday's game with ICT. The Daily Mail reports:

"Celtic have fresh injury doubts as well as a long list of confirmed absentees ahead of Sunday's match at Inverness.

Defenders Steven Pressley (groin) and Ryan Conroy (ankle) will each have their fitness assessed closer to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League game.

Celtic are already without Artur Boruc (knee), Lee Naylor (calf), Mark Wilson (knee), Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe (Achilles), John Kennedy (knee) and Shunsuke Nakamura (knee)."

Provisional squad: Mark Brown, Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus, Darren O'Dea, Jiri Jarosik, Maciej Zurawski, Massimo Donati, Evander Sno, Scott Brown, Paul Hartley, Aiden McGeady, Scott McDonald, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Michael McGovern, Dianbobo Balde, Chris Killen, Tommy Burns, Tea Lady, Ball Bhoy, Willie McStay or Willie McGoe, (Steven Pressley), (Ryan Conroy).

Quick question before I dash to the youngest cubs brithday party.... im really looking forward to it!!!

If you were a team in pot 1 which team would you pick out of pot 2 to play against. I would say apart from the English teams , as it would bring up the usual Battle of britain crap, everyone would pick us. We will be percieved as the weakest team punching above our weight to be there.

In reality I think it is a bonus to be there but will be hoping to go further.

    DontB,

’as every season we appear to be starting from scratch in all outfield areas of the team

Too true, Gordon was proud of the fact that we’ve reached the last 16 in successive seasons with two different teams – my emotion was more one of concern, I do believe if we don’t strengthen our weaker positions in the January sales we will be rebuilding the team in August.

If you look at Big Jock’s teams of the late sixties and early seventies you see remarkable consistency – SURE it’s a different game now but the way the Lisbon lions fused with the Quality street ghang was a work of Art.

    Chairbhoy,

I think you will find that Celtic have achieved everything what they set out to do in Europe this season already. All targets that have been set out have been met. Everything else is just a bonus and it allows us to dream without fear of being ridiculed. The focus will now be on regaining the key to the CL competition as this is the only place where Celtic plc can turnover a profit.

A similar situation happened last year - our first time in the final phases of the CL. The last time we played an even younger Darren O `Dea at the San Siro where he was getting rave reviews. What must he be thinking of his career when one year and 5 first team appearances later he´s doing it again only this time at left back !!!

The comment´s issued by PL after the Milan game was very interesting indeed. Not only the content but the timing , the purpose and most interetsingly the motivation of such a comment will not be lost on the faithful.

Expect Rangers to outspend Celtic in the January 08 transfer window. I mean how long has it been since Rangers beat Celtic ?

Far be it for me to disagree with you but I think there are evidence of team building. I think there is a core group of young players that Wee Ghord is building a team around, each year we try to add to it, I don't believe this thing about year 3 team being the finish article, its a slow building process. If we can keep the core group together, add to it with similar age players, we will have a hell of a team 3 years from now, with tons of CL experience.

You can't tell me that the team that is undefeated at home the last 2 years in Europe is not a team.

The problem is that everybody wants instant gratification. I blame X-factor and Pop Idol, Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for.

    Awe_Naw,

This is the concerning thing, the last sixteen seems to be ‘good enough’

    WELL

If I felt we were really one of the top sixteen teams in Europe at this stage of the game I’d be happy but the fact is we ain’t.

DD isn’t the CEO or the Chairman but he is a major Stockholder and when he said Celtic would be one of Europe’s top clubs I believed him.

’I think you will find that Celtic have achieved everything what they set out to do in Europe this season already’

I must concur – however I’d like to see DD’s ambition shared by the Board. Wouldn’t a European semi or final be Grand.

Sorry been doing a little work for a change.

As I said I do have a degree of sympathy with his view but ask you to consider that if such references serve to annoy me who has supported Celtic for so many years do they not serve to increase the reasoning behind the development of this so called "sanitised" Celtic?

There are some of us with whom the agressive Irishness which some fans display does not sit easily and when someone suggests that older Celtic fans would support the Irish National team before Scotland as if that were some rite of passage in being a "true" Celtic supporter they rightly invite the comment " Ach away and bile yer heid" Using the Aiden Mc Geady example weakens the argument. You can add Jim O Brien to that. What are they if not New Celtic Fans?

I simply ask when did the first Scots born player first play for the Republic of Ireland? Charlie Gallacher I believe? Why? Because he was Irish? No but indeed for exactly the reasons that he was not a first team Celtic regular he would not have played for Scotland as a regular. He had an opportunity to play International football and took it. Good for him but the development of players declaring for Ireland now is the NEW and not the OLD thing.

Its alright Brian someone just bought me a pint and its full again so I believe that the Holy Goalie and Naka will both stay ANNAOAN, even if they did leave I think that it would bring in £20 million for the 2 players, Wee Ghord unlike Mon has a history of finding goalies, replacing Naka would be harder, saying that I would be gutted if Boruc left, hes my favourite player, he should've of been made captain.

The huns will not win the league this year, they are a poor lot, they shot their lot on Wednesday, they will be selling, they will not outspend Celtic in January. The huns have always been morally bankrupt, now they are nearing financial bankruptcy.

I think the last sixteen is good enough based on our present stratedgy.

I agree our home and away form is so obtuse it explains our participation in the last 16. If we can sort out the away from then I´d argue with you that we are in the top 20 and DD should be heartily shaken by the hand and invited to dinner for restoring our European reputation. I worry that we are playing with our domestic reputation however.

Anything further than the last 16 would be Grand .... and we build on further from there ... onwards and upwards only.

    Derbyshire,

Why should Celtic be more interested in your view than the authors ?

I don´t understand your assertion on the instigation of the bile yer heid comment.

Charlie Gallacher, Aiden Mc Geady, The Rangers laddie that's declared for N.I .... good luck to them all that´s their free choice. For Celtic fans to start to question that choice for player or fan is quite simply not what we stand for.

We dont care if we win lose or draw because we are more than a club. Fergus raised us from the ashes in the early nineties. Modernisation was a necessity as was re-iterating NOT REDEFINING what we stand for.

But now our obsession with not upsetting the apple cart and playing the PR game so as to not upset anyone, as damaging profits damages Celtic, even to the extent of alienating our own support is short termism in the extreme and not good business sense. In fact all it does is divide our own support and shouldn´t even be a business decision. That is part of the article, and I fear, as do many that Celtic are more than cosmetically trying to change Celtic´s outwardly perception by appeasing bigots. As our new chairman would know that´s not the answer ... education .... education ... education ... Hammering the Rangers into oblivion would help also on that front as well but that would affect the old firm ;-)business model.

    Hail Hail

    Derbyshirebhoy,

History will show that Celtic fundamentally have never done anything wrong and that the ethos of the club how it was set up and what it is based upon was all positive. We have nothing to apologise for or be embaressed about except possibly changing from a charitable organisation to a commercial one. I always console myself with the fact that Celtic have made much more money for Charity been run as a commercial venture. If it was solely ran for charity purposes it probably wouldn´t exist anymore either so I have to be thankful for small mercies.

I do feel however that there are many Celtic fans (Irish, Scottish, Angolian, German ... you get the picture) who are now far more inclined to protect the damage done to our heritage and identity and feel far more reticent towards the effects of these business decisions.

I would rather see 60,000 Celtic fans sing at SPL games the Irish national anthem than none of them. There´s nothing wrong with it at all.

There are those Celtic fans who would rather I didn´t because they have bought into the fact that doing so is somehow bad for the club.

The people that would have us believe that we are solely Irish need to look at our name. We are Glasgow Celtic. If they can´t see that Celtic is a Scottish club then they are living a lie. I have never met an Irish or Scottish Celtic fan that thought we were solely and Irish club. I am 42 years of age.

Derbyshirebhoy as always it´s a pleasure communicating with you hope you have a fine weekend. A 3 pointer so to speak

    Sir Paul

As you may or may not know this ...hold it! hold it!
    I am pushing on a String...Again!
    Just who am I kidding?

You know... in fact.... EVERYBODY KNOWS... this about me...

I am a Dyed in the Teflon, CONFIRMED FANATICAL Adherent.. of the....ta da!

    PUNISHMENT OR REWARD SYSTEM!

    "Good Boy! Bad Boy!"

    And why am I that?

I'll tell you, why!... ( Wull ye hurry up!... Ah'm gettin' Aulder here,by the minute!.....ed)(So diz cheese...an' whisky...an'... the waitin' time ALWAYS, improves da flavor!...so quit bitchin' an' sup yer Pablum!)

    To carry on, regardless...

    The reason is simple...

Because, THAT SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE WOIKS!
( Cut oot the POLITICS,man...or ye'll Lose the Lot a 'Em!.....ed)(Politics Smolitics...who said anythin' aboot Politics?)

I use it all the time...well, not All of the Time...say... hmmmmmmm...
Twenty per centum, give or take, a centum!

Although, in my daily practice... I am more inclined toward the REWARD... part of the System!

Not that there is anything wrong with the Punishment Part!... which can be a very Cathartic Experience to the Punisher!

But, I have found that in the day to day Governance, of my own People, that the Reward Dangle... comes oot ahead!(Did ye no mean tae say... "Angle"..there?....ed)(Na! Na!.... think aboot it, next time.... before ye open yer gub!)

Now ,what has all of this verbosity, goat tae do with your Leader Column?
You are dying to ask that,no doubt!

I am glad that you asked..for to be frank...I had almost forgotten.

    Yes!... to push on...

In your burst of remarkable perception, were you perceived that Celtic, during the past... few months....make that... Years?

Were starting most games...well ...not ALL games!...but.( Dae we hiv tae go thru all that again,mac?...ed)(Quite!)
in a very Ambulatory Manner... in fact, it seemed/seems that the only time that Celtic decided to ratch up the old gear box...was when their opposition of the day...had scored of goal!

Not good...my friend, not good at all,at all.

Now this is where....The Old Punishment or Reward System... kicks in.

Before, the Game of the day would start...
Mr. Strachan and the Members of his Crack Back-Room Staff...
Would inform the Celtic Stalwarts of this.....

" From the Moment that you Kick-off the Kick-off, today... All of you...and that includes, even the Goalie... will be TIMED... on how long it will take you to complete a Movement on the Ball.
For example.....how long it will take you to make a pass to a colleague...

Now, after months of research and patient observation...we have arrived at certain Figures.... And these Figures represent The LEAST amount of time, Allotted..not only to t the above action...But also including the following.....
Say Taking a Shy....or a Free kick...or a Corner...or a Bye kick....and these Figures are written in stone....well, not exactly written in stone..more like written on a piece of paper...

Be that as it may... we know exactly, how much time that an individual will need to equal our reckonings.

Gentlemen..right from the Git Go... you will be under that implacable JUDGE ... THE STOP WATCH!
Which will be manned at all times, by the eagle-eyed... STOP WATCH, WATCHERS!

Therefore... if our Standards are not met...the following Punishment will be doled out to the Failures:

No Bonus Money will be paid to him/them....in the Event of a Celtic win...
In the Event of a Celtic Loss...
A Fine will be imposed on the Failure/Failures of the exact amount of a Win Bonus.

Meanwhile, in the Event of a Celtic Win...the Players who have met the Standards... shall receive their own win Bonuses...Plus the Bonuses that have been with held from the non qualifiers...those being portioned out, to the Standard makers as an extra inducement.

All of this, will I am sure.. quickly rectify the present Lollygaggying ..that has settled into the pattern of play of the present Celtic Team, in an alarming number of encounters.

    Disagree?

Sure you will!.... and most of my readers, will agree with your disagreement!

But that is my solution... and I know it will woik!

I'm sure they will do something very similar with the players to what you suggest - ProZone stats - but an upping of the pace all round would be nice.

In other news a colleague of mine told me on Wednesday he decided at the last minute to go to the Rangers game. Having paid £40 for the 'privelege' he took his seat a bit late in time to see the move for Govou's goal and reminded himself that despite having seen Rangers a bundle of times in the last 10/15 years he had never actually seen them win in Europe. We've started a kitty for him.

Your predictions; I blame Tommy Boyd :-)

EDB, no, Gravesen is contracted to Everton until May, at which time, he will become our asset, or our liability, depending on how you look at it.

Kojo, hmmm. Punish and reward, of course, but if you if it’s completed passes you after, let’s get Neil Lennon back!

The BBC have Sno commenting again about might having to reconsider his position in January because of a lack of starts. The BBC isn't reliable so I don't know how useful the comments are. Whether it is true or not, I hope he stays as he's starting to get some sharpness and I think he has bags of potential. I think he has won some of the fans back as well. I can understand why he would want to leave as he's good enough to get a regular start at a lot of good teams and sitting on the bench here isn't exactly helping him much. But I think Gordon has a lot of faith in him and I suspect he'll be get plenty of football this season. Alternatively there is always the option of a loan deal. He says he loves the club and wants to play here so it'll be in his interest to at least stick it out until the summer.

Whenever a player voices his concern over not getting first team football and possibly considering moving on there is always a plethora of people saying "sell him if he's going to moan". I hope that isn't the case. He isn't slagging the club off, he just realises that there is some heavy compitition for his position and it might be in his interest to move on. It was the same for Jarosik also. It doesn't do any talented footballer to play reserve team football even if it is Celtic.

I think if Gravesen comes back and merits a start he will play. He got some stick for not playing him near the end of last season but I think the fact he's barely featured for Everton as well even with Moyes being a big fan of him suggests that he didn't deserve a start at the time. But if he improves he might be envolved. I'd happily see him sold so we could use the money on some new players.

    Paul67,

I take it Gordon is helping his big mate out with the scouting as well. I see Birmingham are targetting Kadlec:)

Joking a side if he was good enough for us a year ago what is wrong with him now? He is available at a cheap price. If our scouting which has been heavily invested in is just showing up SPL players (Hart, Robson, Murphy etc..) then i reckon questions need to be asked. Bargains can be sought anywhere. Just a matter of expanding your search and not limiting it to these shores.

Just a thought but season tickets sales may take a dip further next year if this is the calibre of player we are going for.

reading through the posts .i think like myself, the majority of us hoops fans are resigned to the fact that there will be no major spend in january. i cant speak for my fellow celts ,but i am not in the least surprised. but make no mistake we have a battle on our hands to secure that top spot here in scotland. and if our top men dont think that, then we really are in trouble . the team imho is starting to get there , but new and better players must be brought in to replace the ones who just dont do the business . for more than a week on here, we have gone on about the gretna postponement, agree the whole thing stinks . but we the fans are the only ones going on about it .our leaders, as they always do just accept everything thrown at us like the nice people they are. but the truth of the matter whether rangers played or not ,we didnt beat st mirren .a team celtic should be back heeling. so we cant blame anyone else for our own failings. when that window opens in january .p l. d d. or whoever signs the cheques, should be ready with pen in hand to sign players to fill in the areas we need strengthening. and if our scouting network is as they say, the best in the business. the players required should already be singled out . for and make no mistake .we have a fight on our hands here

When you think back to all the hysteria about closed doors games, ejection from CL and match bans that were talked about in the aftermath of McHendry v AC Milan, is it not surprising to see Anderlecht only fined £13000 for all the lighters and stuff thrown on the pitch against Spurs? A player was genuinely injured there and the attack was much more severe than the Rapid Vienna incident.

Not had the chance to post this week and having read all the posts, there's not much left to add to the comments, especially since the Rangers game.

    Here's a couple anyway:-

    1. Jock Brown's live commentary. Just after Darcheville has been shown the red card, on watching the slow motion replay, he says

"well that's nothing at all, quite incredible, how in the world is that worthy of a red card, scarcely worth a yellow I'd have thought".

Seriously. To be fair, it was only a single foot stamp onto the ankle of a player lying on the ground. I suppose he could have used two.

Has anyone in the media picked up on the fact Uefa review all red cards in the Champions League to decide whether more than a one game ban is appropriate. I don't expect to see Darcheville playing Uefa Cup football after Christmas.

    2. Just before the Darcheville sending off, the camera pans to the Lyon fans, who are all sending goodwill gestures to the Rangers fans in the Broomloan Stand. One in particular breaks away from the singing, bends down, goes into his bag, and pulls out the no doubt newly acquired Celtic away strip and holds it up in the air. Great stuff.

Anyway, on serious matters, Sunday starts (continues) a crucial period of games until 6 January. Away games against Inverness, Dundee United and Motherwell, home games against Hibs, Gretna and Rangers. In comparison Rangers have away games against Aberdeen and Hibs, home games against Hearts, Motherwell and Dundee United.

These games will go a long way to deciding the league.

Paul67, I agree, the team has delivered well in the first half, but that is despite the lack of recruitment in the summer. The league is closer than it should be at the moment because we allowed others to close the gap. Hopefully after this period of games we will emerge with a lead (factoring in a presumption Rangers will win their games in hand). Hopefully we then rectify the recruitment shortfalls of the summer during the January transfer window and put the distance between us and the rest there should be.

    Paul67,

    Re: Jim tim

It will depend on the the type of quality resources available.

I am not advocating going out to spend million of pounds, but a better type of player could have been bought with a touch more being made available in previous windows.

I said in August that Celtic have reached a crossroads where they could put Rangers well out of their reach.

As i posted many months ago Celtic have been gambling in previous transfer windows especially August by not investing in a better type of player. We took the gamble not to invest to heavily as we believed we had enough to contain Rangers.

I'm glad to say i was wrong and that the gamble has paid off. Unbelievably, with a bit of luck we have reached the last 16 and stayed in contention for the SPL. However, only just!!

My plea to the board is you now have another chance to put Rangers well and truly out of sight. Use this opportunity!! There is only so many times that gambling will work. One day it will backfire big time. Allow the problem positions to be sorted sensibly and with the quality the manager requires and enought of the Camara, Virgo, Killen signings. Let's target a better quality of player.

We can do better than the Harts, Robson, Elkobi's of this world.
Bargains and better quality can be sought together!!

Your latest effort held my eye, as it is..I Feel.. Remember I did not say, KNOW!..that the contents of your contribution, was pretty much representitive of the thoughts of many another like minded Celtic Fan.

That part of the Gospel is all there....
    par example....

The Celtic Board do not understand the present perilous situation that we are faced with.( Watch yer prepositions,pal... I thought I had cured ye o' that!)( So did I.... but it seems that I jist canny gie it UP!)

    The Gospel continues,thusly:

If we do not ante up more...well ante... then,we will suffer for our ill advised Parsimony.

The tract continues in this vein....
One must always "Speculate to Accumulate".

I see this ancient and hoary aphorism and it's derivatives,Popping up from tine to time,on these very Pages...as a Persuasive Argument in countering the Celtic Board's More Prudent approach.

    Which,in the Lingua Franca.. is...

"Mak siccar that yer Eye is no bigger than yer Belly"...

Which, translates like something along these lines...
"Watch the Pounds and the Pennies wull tak care o' themselves!"

Take this to heart... and mark it well.

Transfer and WAGE INFLATION is here and it AIN'T GONNA GO AWAY!

Running and Looking after the Finances of a Successful Soccer Team, these days...

    Is like working as a Stevedore...at the Docks...in Jamaica...when a Crate,Full o' slightly over-ripe Bananas is spilled.

If ye dinna tread very carefully, before ye know it...ye wull be surrounded by Banana Skins... and ye know jist how sneaky and perfidious tae yer physical safety...a Banana Skin kin be!

Same kind of Careful Watchfullness applies tae the Celtic Movers and Shakers.

    Tread Carefully... and keep yer
    Money Close tae yer Chest!

And so far, that technique has woiked rather well...

Our Net spending at the last Window of Opportunity was a little over... Mebbe under... we wull quibble...
    But it wiz....
    NO VERY MUCH!

And...lo and behold... what was the result o' that show of Excellent Financial Husbandry?

A very Pleasing Performance by the Cut Price Selectees... if I may be allowed to boast!

Still TAP O' DA LEAGUE... Still in Da Scottish Cut... basking in the glory and Anticipation of CL Games after..CHRISTMAS......!

    Wella, WELLA.....

It seems to me...and a few others.... that THIS CELTIC BOARD, Knows a thing or two...in fact...

    I WOULD HAZZARD A GUESS...jist a guess,mind ye.....

That PIERRE AND THE BOARD KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

    There ...

I said it ... FLAT OUT!

So... Believe,in the Celtic Board.. they ur the Good Guys..
Leave matters of running the ship in their safe hands... they wull guide us safely thru the storms.

That is my parting advice... take it or no,it doesn't matter a whit to me..either way( ENUFF ALREADY... WE get your Drift....ed)

( No need to lose the Rag,pal... by the way ...what good does it do to carry a Rag about with you,anyhow..Personally,I do not care a Continental if I should lose an old rag or not)

follow following d' archie veels miss of the

we need a laugh again before bedtime and so
for a tommy cooper moment - if he were alive today

I met this bloke with a didgeridoo and he was playing Dancing Queen on it. I thought, "That's Aboriginal."

This lorry full of tortoises collided with a van full of terrapins. It was a turtle disaster.

I told my girlfriend I had a job in a bowling alley. She said "Tenpin?" I said, "No, permanent."

I went in to a pet shop. I said, "Can I buy a goldfish?" The guy said, "Do you want an aquarium?" I said, "I don't care what star sign it is."

I was at a Garden Centre and I asked for something herby. They gave me a Volkswagen with no driver.

Batman came up to me and he hit me over the head with a vase and he went T'PAU! I said "Don't you mean KAPOW?? He said "No, I've got china in my hand."

I bought some Armageddon cheese today, and it said on the packet. 'Best Before End'

I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said "Analogue." I said "No, just a watch."

I went into a shop and I said, "Can someone sell me a kettle." The bloke said "Kenwood" I said, "Where is he then?"

My mate is in love with two schoolbags. He's bisatchel.

I went to the doctor. I said to him "I'm frightened of lapels." He said, "You've got cholera."

I met the bloke who invented crosswords today. I can't remember his name, it's P something T something R.

I was reading this book today, The History Of Glue. I couldn't put it down.

I phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just went on and on.

The recruitment consultant asked me "What do you think of voluntary work?? I said "I wouldn't do it if you paid me."

I was in the jungle and there was this monkey with a tin opener. I said, "You don't need a tin opener to peel a banana." He said, "No, this is for the custard."

This policeman came up to me with a pencil and a piece of very thin paper. He said, "I want you to trace someone for me."

I told my mum that I'd opened a theatre. She said, "Are you having me on?" I said, "Well I'll give you an audition, but I'm not promising you anything."

I phoned the local builders today, I said to them "Can I have a skip outside my house?" He said, "I'm not stopping you!"

This cowboy walks in to a German car showroom and he says "Audi!"

I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, "Nearest the bull goes first" He went "Baah" and I went "Moo" He said "You're closest"

I was driving up the motorway and my boss phoned me and he told me I'd been promoted. I was so shocked I swerved the car. He phoned me again to say I'd been promoted even higher and I swerved again. He then made me managing director and I went right off into a tree. The police came and asked me what had happened. I said "I careered off the road"

I visited the offices of the RSPCA today. It's tiny: you couldn't swing a cat in there.

I was stealing things in the supermarket today while balanced on the shoulders of a couple of vampires. I was charged with shoplifting on two counts.

I bought a train ticket to France and the ticket seller said "Eurostar". I said "Well I've been on telly but I'm no Dean Martin.

I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, "How flexible are you?" I said, "I can't make Tuesdays or Thursdays."

I went to the local video shop and I said, "Can I take out The Elephant Man?" He said, "He's not your type." I said "Can I borrow Batman Forever?" He said, "No, you'll have to bring it back tomorrow"

so to bed and then the day before inverness

Just read one of your comments about Matterazzi, dont know if it was mentioned on here but the other week when John Barnes was comentating on Fiore v Inter he was going on about The Matrix almost signing for Celtic before he joined Everton.

Think he broke records for bookings in the EPL, think it may have been world records if he had headed North.

    My dear friend, Hail Hail...

    I gotta tell ye this,pally...

I luv wan liners...!But, They are difficult to put over...because....

It is one thing to be able to tell a funny joke..... but a One Liner.... requires a

    FUNNY GUY!

    I aways plump for a Funny Guy...every time~

Bob Hope could tell a Funny joke and his one liners were very topical....

    However....and this is inside stuff...

Most of the Time that the Audience Laughed loudly at his material, was the fact... that he WAS FAMOUS!

Danny Thomas told us..that when he was an up and coming young comic.. story teller,really...in Detroit... I think Detroit...might have bin Cleveland.....
    Any how...

One night, at the club where Danny was performing ...and not gettin' much in the way of laughs!.....

Bob Hope, who was visiting tha city, dropped by,and happened to be in the Audience.

Danny, ever alert to the right thing to do...besides, he was slowly dyin', anyway...
He invited Bob up on to the Stage....beside him....

Now to explain... That particular day had been one of woeful and inclement weather in the city.

And Danny noticed that Bob had a dried out piece of Mud...which was rather prominently adhering to one of the legs of his light colored flannels.

As Bob faced the audience there was a collective anticipatory intake of Breath by the audience... Danny said ...you could feel it strongly...

    And Bob's Opening Line was....

As he very pointedly ,lifted his leg and displayed the mud spatter on his trousers to the audience...

"The Taxi Drivers here, sure never have read the Manual...which plainly states...Don't over charge the fare... and At ALL TIMES....
Do not drive so close too the Side- walk, on a rainy day~"

As Danny says... He was struck by the Volume of Laughter and bosterous Applause that emanated from the very appreciative audience. Frankly, he was Amazed at the crowd's reaction.

He knew that....Anybody else...besides Bob Hope... telling such a flat one like that, would have been greeted with silence... which would soon be broken by a few not so nice cat-calls!

    As Danny says.....

Bob Hope was NOT A FUNNY GUY...But he WaS A VERY FAMOUS ONE!

Again on the subject of One Liners.......

Henny Youngman had the most god--awful material... it was schoolboy stuff... straight out of Joe Millar....

    Nevertheless...

I and everybody else simply rolled in the aisles, when we caught his act...

    Because...
    Like I always said...

Give me a Funny Guy... and you can keep yer lousy over worked material.

    Funny Guys.. Buddy Hackett....
    Charlie Callas....Schnozzle Durante...

Could read a phone book.... and the Cat would Break up~

    Kojo.
Yer pal...who is jist havin a wee bit fun.

    A bit more fun...

A few slight hints in jest during the week had me thinking..
    The LA 23

Said he wouldnt play for another EPL team, would he play for another Spanish or Catalyan team? wouldnt imagine Italian, French or German teams would appeal.

Theres been stories of 'Majic' heading to LA, dont know if its for Hollywood or Football, he's been trying to perfect his footballer act lately. To give him his due he does have experience of what its like to be one.

US soccer league has finished and he hasnt really played a good run of games in at least the last twelve months.

Hes not cup tied for the Champions League.

The greatest living manager has just taken over his national team, being close would impress. Also must be realy wanting those extra few caps.

The Spice Girls are 'recording' in england in the new year, Im guessing he will be told to be within the watchfull eye.

Even if he was paid £50-100,000 a week by Celtic Im sure it would be recoverable. My Sister who has no interest in Football (Thinks Champions League fever is a mental illness) was at the Sydney Olympic stadium to see those two greats of world Football Sydney FC 5 v L A Galaxy 2 or 3. 82,000 sell out, and apparently tickets were like gold dust. Obviously ticket revenue wouldnt be a big plus but whatever the increase in CH67 subscribers was once Naka settled we should expect a lot more? Sale of shirts? Im guessing there would be quite a few .

If it was only a 'lazy journalist/roumor monger' (only joking)seed that was planted cheers, but it did get me thinking.

But so intense was Rangers' predicament at the outset of this journey, and so heroically did they perform in the first three games, when they gathered all seven of their points, it's hard to shake off the scent of a unique chance gone a-begging...

    and, my favourite...

The enduring nature of Celtic's refusal to let any European opponent leave Glasgow with a point this season suggests nobody should rule out Rangers' chance of matching this season's performance in next year's Champions League..."

What? WHAT?! Can anyone make sense of that last sentence?

    Re Hinkel, with a bit of help from Google translation of the article posted by Yogissannies, this is the gist of it;

Andreas Hinkel is reported, by FC Seville, as going to Glasgow Celtic in Scotland.

Spanish media have consistently reported that Andreas Hinkel from the UEFA Cup winners FC Sevilla will switch to Celtic.

The Scots have reportedly agreed with the 25-year-sided defender a transfer fee of three million euros.

Hinkel arrived in Seville in 2006, from Stuttgart on a contract valide until 2010

Recently, VfL Wolfsburg also have expressed interest.

In addition, more clubs from the Bundesliga have expressed interest in Hinkel.

Just to change the subject a wee bit (getting back to transfers) i thought i'd give my two penneth on the positions we should look to strengthen in and some of the names we seem to be looking at.

Goalkeeper. The mad monk i guess will come on a bosman. Brown to go on loan.

Full back (i happen to think we should stick with the centre back options - at least untill the summer, although if we can get £1m for bobo we should take it.)

Hinckel - left back who can play right back. £2.1m quoted.

Mendy - right back. Bosman for the summer, or nominal fee for January. It seemed as though we were going to sign him in the summer, although Liverpool have said (in the Mirror!) to be interested.

Murphy - from Hibs. I guess Hinckel would be prefrable at LB.

Hart - Aberdeen. I guess unlikely.

Midfield partner for Brown. I think Donati should get the season for this, but i have been a wee bit disappointed with him so far. I'd like to see a player with Brown's "puff" and Naka's technical skills on the ball (notwithstanding free kicks!). As for names, i have no idea! Appiah may still be on the radar, but with the African cup of nations i would be suprised. I like the look of Ever Banega of Boca - but the big boys may be circling!

I assume Sean Maloney will return. I hope we can get James McCarthy of Hamilton for the long term.

Striker seems to be where we struggle, and where we will spend money when the time is right (and i doubt that will be in January).

    McFadden
    Lafferty (burnley)
    Keane (why not!)
    Doyle (see Keane)
Fletcher (long term, but has signed a new deal with Hibs - may give it a season or two).

Losing is not an option tomorrow, the teuchters will be up for it. Who will play left back tomorrow? Is Pressley playing tomorrow?

Its too quiet about Naka, is he near returning or will he leave in January. Has he been seen lately is he recuperating in Japan? Will Naylor be back before January, Will Ghord bring in another striker? Will Pressley shave off that scraggly beard? Is Paull Hartley really Peter Petrelli and has Hoopy the Hound findly been house trained?

Inquiring minds need to know the answers to these questions.

0-2 for the Bhoys tomorrow, the first clean sheet away for over a year as M. Brown returns to his old team.

I am not decrying the friend of a friend's view because clearly sometimes information from such sources are correct. However,it is our nature to worry when we hear nothing definitive about issues where we want absolute cast iron statments (in this case Naka's continuing presence in Glasgow next year). I may be over optimistic/in denial or even have taken my "aye oof the ball" but I cannot think of one footballing reason for him to go back to Japan yet. Family circumstances, of course, may be the reason but he has said on several occasions, and fairly recently, that he and his family are settled. I prefer to view it as the club saying nothing because there is nothing to say.

This story that he's to young blah, blah, blah. Agree to an extent however, was Owen to young when he peoformed at the World Cup at 18?? Rooney, Huntelaar, Van Persie,Casillas, Giggs. All regulars at 17 and 18.

Take Evander - guy with dodgy suite and digital handheld recorder sidles up and says-

"Is playing in the first team important in your International career?" - answer is obvious

"If you don't get enough first time football would you consider moving on?" - answer is obvious!!!

20 year olds and hackneyed hacks go together like fish and chips - add a greedy agent (representative of Salt & Vinegar Inc) and you have the rceipe for a put up job.

Now, if he were saying "I'm not sure I'm good enough for this team", I'd be worried.

Interesting news today about Andreas Hinkel.

He said at the end of November that he wanted to leave Seville "as soon as possible".

Every comment I've seen seems to suggest that he's a very accomplished player (as he must be to feature in this Seville team in any capacity). Seville fans regret his decision.

He is being kept out by Dani Alves, who, everyone thought, was going to leave in August. The Dani Alves-Jesús Navas combination seems to have left Hinkel largely frozen out.

Perhaps he wants first-team football to get in the German squad for Euro 08. Perhaps he doesn't see eye to eye with new Seville manager Manolo Jiménez.

There certainly seems to be little love lost. He's been left out of the (injury-hit) squad for tomorrow's game away to the mighty Real Valladolid "for technical reasons".

This one seems to be written in the stars. We will draw Seville in the last 16. Appropriate, because we are the only opponents who could pay a proper tribute to Antonio Puerta, the player who died after the Getafe game in August.

The Hinkel link would make it even more interesting. Andreas may not be able to play, but he'd be an important contributor to the team-talk.

It looks likely that 3 of your 4 are going. I would still be surprised to see Sno leave as I have no doubts that he will play in one of the big leagues and will command substantial transfer fees in his future career.

If he leaves now, we would be lucky to get £1 million as he is playing less often than he did last year. People forget he started games like our CL win against Man U.

I think he's making good progress and that most of the criticisms of his play (too slow, only passes back etc;) are myths. If he can sort out his reckless tackling, he'll get more game. That is, if our fans don't drive him away sooner.

Why wouldn't Sno want away? Everything he does on the pitch is scrutinised unfavourably by a substantial section of the support. He can't even make a comment about his future(notice not a word about booing) without criticism. Under the circumstances I'd want away.

I like the bench players getting frustrated. Sno , O'dea , Riordan should all be champing at the bit and when they come into the side they should try and cement themselves there.

Pity some single Sno out. O'Dea was just as bad at Ibrox in October and has made comments about being frustrated and I'd bet your baws he'd be asking for a leave of Celtic tomorrow if he was consistently being booed.

    WGS,

Your being a bit OTT with comparisons to players of early age you mention as these players are all top players. We have to realise we have a lot of raw talent which will take time to flourish. Not every great player makes it at 17 or 18. Most just count themselves lucky to be given a Pro contract. Then they go forth and learn the game especially on our islands.

If your old enough your good enough doesn't apply at Celtic. One bad game and the supporters will turn. We demand instant success. If we had a young Ronaldinho like the one PSG had he'd be hounded out already. You can have all the talent in the world but if you haven't learned the game then your in for a rough ride at Celtic if your a young player. They are allowed no time to develop under the demands of the Celtic support.

All the players you mention Rooney, Huntelaar, Van Persie,Casillas, Giggs , broke through as talent and were spotted and brought into teams surrounded by TOP talent and allowed to flourish. They were given time to allow their talents to develop along side TOP PROFESSIONAL players. The coaches at these clubs allowed the players to be developed. Rooney didn't score a Champions league goal for three years after a Hat-trick debut in a qualifier yet Man Utd persevered. Giggs was a consistent substitute in the earlier years , Van Persie (Whom MON nearly signed) learned his trade from Henry and was used sparingly from the bench , Huntelaar likewise. At Celtic you must be nearly the finished article due to the demand to win every game even reserve fixtures. That is , unless your a young player from the highest echelons of the game like Messi for example.

Celtic fans must realise that player like Sno have to be given time. Our team is filled with raw talent and some average players who are punching way above their station. Being a young player in such a situation must be difficult.

Sno's last contribution was a 35 yard pass to Riordan to rescue us a point. Yet all I hear is him being caught in possession by Kaka. Too many grumblings about whats been and gone.

  • At 15/12/07 19:38, Blogger setting free the bears said…

Sno's fast enough as he showed getting back to block Kaka.

Some players have fast twitch muscle and quick stride patterns. Others use their long legs to eat up the ground. Sno is the latter type. He is languid in movement but covers enough ground.

He sometimes has that Dutch overconfidence in that he invites a tackle right on top of him before he will pass the ball on. I'd prefer release to be just a fraction quicker. Nonetheless, to play at CL level, you have to be comfortable on the ball and not panic when pressed. Sno can do this.

Oh, and BTW, David Marshall's career is not yet over. He is playing regularly for Norwich and has impressed a few observers playing behind a poor team. I'd expect his career to flourish even if Norwich go down.

Anyone who thought it was cold last Saturday should have been at Brunton Park this afternoon. After a first half in which Carlisle were suffering from a bad dose of the D'Archevilles we got the goal to sustain our push for the big P.

Only heard about Hinkel from Chico at lunchtime. A 25 year old German international fullback sounds almost too good to be true. But the fact his name has so far not appeared in these pages[ as a riddle, doggerel or in plain English] is reassuring as it increases the chances of it happening.

Oh, and Narrowboat's comment about the Mint having a 'Robert Plant' voice is duly minuted by the Kerrang!CSC. In the week when everything that's happened in music since the Zeppelin called it a day was trampled underfoot we like to think that Sir David would have a voice like Tiny Tim.

Maybe the best solution for Sno is to loan him out. What I saw of him last year, he looks like he has tons of potential. He needs playing time. We shouldn't give up on him yet.

WGS using Rooney, Huntelaar, Van Persie,Casillas, Giggs is a bit OTT, look at McGeady has turned out, last year I was cursing his choices of passes or hanging on to the ball too long, I almost gave up on him, but he proved me wrong, he's been out of this world.

Good to hear news of a fullback arrival.

In my opinion having an unbalanced side isn't helping anyones cause even the young players.

A reserve goalkeeper and 4 center halves covering the back 4 dosen't add up to a naturally balanced side which can accommodate young lads coming in. The chances of a mistake increase. Even up front and in midfield we've been disjointed. If Aiden had been injured we have been forced to play 4 central midfielders along midfield.

4 center halves + 4 center midfielders one off form striker with a reserve goalie and young lads on the bench makes a pretty unbalanced team. Great management to keep things running pretty smoothly. Now hopefully the board allow young Gordon the cash to balance the side and see what we can really do.

Some careers take a backward step to get regular football and then make it to a bigger club in their prime. Gattuso went from rangers to salernitana before arriving at AC. I'm not saying Davie Marshall will get to the San Siro but he'll do better than Norwich, I'm betting.

I have been wondering for a while whether our wage policy is having a detrimental effect on team selection.

It has been stated that we now operate a reduced basic scale, augmented by appearance and bonus payment.

Has this led to new signings like Jarosik, Donati, JVoh, etc., expecting to be regulars, even though their form may have dipped or even when they need a rest?

If this is the case and the manager feels an obligation to keep them happy, then opportunities for fringe players like Sno, Teddy, etc., will not be as plentiful as we and they would hope.

The team has been crying out to be refreshed recently, but due to the importance of every game, we have felt obliged to go with our strongest team.

What is obvious is that our fringe players need top team exposure, so that there can be a seamless substitution when batteries need recharging. A dilemma for the manager.

Fair comment WGS about Huntelaar and Van Persie, only time will tell if Sno is going to be a player, but if he does become a player then I hope we still have him playing for us instead of finding out when he is playing for another team. I believe you can never have enough good young players.

Sadly because of the league we play in we have to find gems that other teams might have overlooked or have given up on. I mean that is why we picked up Donati and you can possibly put our newest target Andreas Hinkel into that catagory.

    My dear friend, Enrico Anonini...

    Spot on,Ragazzo!

Like you, I am pleased at the reported reaction, by Evander, to his lack of regular foist team games.

My kinda thinkin'......of course, ANY player who is not playing on a regular basis.... AND WOITH HIS CONDIMENT!!( IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!) should be slavering at the chops, to get oot der....and Show those godarn Sons of a Lady Dog... what he has to offer.

That, is the Beauty of the Capitalist System( HuH?....ed)( Euphemistically speaking, of coures... Say I... holding ma hauns up!)

Competition!...Competition and even MAIR COMPETITION!.. fur a PLACE IN THE SUN!( Weather, noo? who mentioned weather...ed)(Keep readin'... you'll get it.......eventually!)

    Somebody Twice, said this...somewhere,sometime...

    "COMPETITION IS A SIN!"
    "COMPETITION IS A SIN!"
    )
In which I entirely agree..but, PRIVATELY!..in the woild of FINANCE!.... ...but NOT, in the woild of Soccerdom!

    Therefore....

It is in NOT AT ALL necessary to
even do so much as, BLINK...on learning Evander's intimated Displeasure concerning his minimized playing time, on the field of play!

    Good for you Evander!

And here is a message, young man...from us to you...

If you continue to improve in your performances, as you have done so in your LAST TWO APPEARANCES...
You shall soon find out that the System of Competition for places... can..and WILL woik, in YOUR FAVOR,for a chinge!

And, YOU... will be invited to the Banquet, while some other( Donati?...ed)( Shrewd observation,pal...mebbe,aye, mebbe, mebbe!)Celtic stalwart, shall have to Partake of his Meals in the Kitchen ,along with the rest of the Unexalted!( Is that a woid?...ed)( Na! but, is darned well should,be!)

In the small matter of the sudden interest by all of Celtica.. prompted by, the Notification of Celtic's acclaimed interest in a Young German Player, we have this to say...as a matter of interest...

The coterie, does NOT have the inkling of a sqiff of a morsel of a nano centimeter(Dat's Sma!....ed)of ANY IFORMATION TO FORTIFY... THAT PIECE OF INFORMATION,REGARDING THE NEWLY MENTIONED TARGET!

    I am sorry...but that is a fact!

Does that mean that this Rumour is not a Rumour?

    You tell ME!

The fact that this information is indeed a FACT...and the Fact that the coterie has been UNAWARE ...of the Celtic Interest in this fine young man... is ...I must point out...to some, to some members.....

IS IN FACT ... MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!

( Run that by me again...whit ur ye saying?...ed)( Confidentially,pal... I hiv nae idea!... ah goat maist o'that stuff, aff o' da Pookah....he ayeways uses it....in his closin' argument...)

Hoopslegend TMowbray has got the Baggies going well, and playing some good stuff. I'd like him to be the next Celtic manager, I think he would give us attractive football plus structured youth development.

I don't think the problem of keeping senior players happy is a new one- M O'N regularly played CRSutton in midfield so that he could give JHartson a start upfront.

Our use of substitutes this season is sometimes poor. It is different when a tactical changes have to be made when the Cunning Plan goes wrong but at other times we have bees sitting comfortably and changes don't get made 'til the last few minutes.

    WGS ,

The guys you mention are the cream of the crop. Players like Sno take time to develop. Very few players are ready at age 18-21.

I'll see if I can get an article from John Park. He specializes on spotting the late developers in the game. Every player developments physically and mentally in different ways. By 21-23 you will most probably see full physical development but how many mentally mature teenagers do you see these days? Some have talent but the wrong attitude early doors at 18 but loose their way. By 23-24 they start to become level headed and more professional so they're developed late.

Compare and contrast McGeady and Riordan as a little example.

Van Persie and Huntelaar are now 24 years old.

Van Persie lacked discipline at the age of what Evander is now. Other clubs looked at Van Persie and got put off by his discipline problems at the age of 19-20. Now Van persie has got to the age of 24 at Arsenal and is more mature and accomplished due to the Arsenal youth set-up , good teachers in Wenger and Henry.

Jan Huntelaar is also 24. In his earlier years at the age of 20 he couldn't get a first team place at PSV. He moved around clubs on loan like De Graafschap who were then relegated with him in the side and they failed to extend his contract. His career only set off in 2004 aged 21 while playing for AGOVV Apeldoorn. He became their top scorer , learned the game , moved to heerenveen and then Ajax.

As you can see Evander is only at the Earliest of stages in his career and these players you mention didn't make it right away. It was only through development and proper coaching from good coaches that these players developed their talents. Evander is a bit different as he's a midfielder.

As you can see Evander has had CL experience at the tender age of 19 and has showed up on first team starts the same as your examples above did. Evander shouldn't be compared to these Dutch guys as he's only 19-20 years old. He has another 4 years of development to go yet before comparisons can be made.

He also predictied we would defeat MAN UTD at parkhead where if i remember he replaced a dropped TG not bad for a 19yr old

I think all this boooing stems from the 3-0 TFOD game where he froze and WGS should have hooked him very early, but he is showing he can stand up to the boo boo brigade, at FEYENOORD it is common for the Surinamese bhoys HENKE was booed and even considered quitting he was at such a low....

I was at a FEYENOORD V AJAX game94 the nooordbhoys hissed for the full second half i thought it was cause they were down 2-0 my cloggy mate told me AJAX are Jewish so we remind them of the gas..... feck i thought our singing was cuttin it.

    My dear,dear friend, WGS

Your thinking along the lines..... that I am quite liable to insert a dash of Obfuscation,in order to Cloak the truth, when a Player is mentioned in the Press... as a Celtic Target...when and.. Only! ... if I perceive, that it would be unwise on my part to stamp my Imprimatur on the news.

Be that as it may... in this case...

I am saying categorically and emphatically that the coterie have had no information relating to any Celtic Interest in a GERMAN PLAYER!

collie is elsewhere at this time...indulging in what collie indulges in.

    But, you are correct...

For myself... I believe that the window ultima will bring relief to our DEFENSIVE inadequacies.

There's more to Roni being on the bench than I thought.

He's on the verge of equalling Johan Cruyff's total number of games for Barcelona. I think the guy on Radio Nacional said 139, doesn't seem like many.

What's Frankie R trying to teach Ronaldinho by making him wait?

Is the Brazilian genius on his way out?

He must get on tonight and then break the Cruyff total against Real Madrid, a special night for a special player.

Here comes the second substitution; it's Deco
