Hutchinson completes a professionally managed window for Celtic

The signing of Ben Hutchinson tonight is the cherry on top of the cake as far as I am concerned. The 20-year-old will join Georgios Samaras in bursting a gut to make an impression at his new club, try to win a place in the remaining Champions League rounds and collect an SPL winner’s medal in May.

Welcome to Celtic, Ben.

Frankly, I have no idea what our strongest 11 is going to look like after this month’s arrivals have settled in, but I am really looking forward to finding out.

Well done to Gordon Strachan, Peter Lawwell, the scouts and supporting staff for a really professional transfer window.

Agree Paul, well executed business by Celtic. In contrast to others who may remain nameless.

All in all, pretty good business Celtic. Well done PL & WGS.

Artur Boruc secured with new contract.

    Defence strengthened with Andraes Hinkel.

Midfield strengthened with a goalscorer who knows how to graft in the Scottish game and a young Japanese bhoy whose delivery looks special and who can develop his talent with Celtic.

Strikeforce strengthened with Samaras who, at 22, may turn out to be the most influencial signing in the battle to retain our title.

Young Ben, brought in by that serial talent spotter John Park, is one for the future who may just have a role to play this season. His former manager seemed miffed enough at losing him to suggest he might just be good one.

We could have done with an expereienced central defender but that would have been icing on the Celtic Park cake. At least we didn't lose Bobo Balde and have the big fella available shortly.

Best wishes to Jiri who delivered some very important goals over the past two seasons.

Take it that's it? I can get back to doing work?

Will be a bit disappointed if we don't manage to get some deadwood out but I suppose with such a tight schedule we'll need all the bodies we can get.

Before the window I would have said we had a much better starting XI than the huns but a weaker squad. That's changed!

We have an even stronger 1st XI and now have a stronger squad.

It's been at least 4 transfer windows since I last posted! Had to re-register and everything.

Good skills to one and all. We've bought a number of youthful additions, some who are approaching their peak and some who have great potential.

On the darker side, they have gone for the cheap but dependable option. In the long term, our way wins. This is a pivotal season though and we need to play better football than we have been.

£10m + is at stake for the league this season. I think we have shown that we care.

    Paul,

Great work by all on the 5 new recruits, like you say professional to the end. Good to see CQN getting the majority of the breaking news, this place really is the best for the fans, without your dedication over these last few years we would not have the opportunity to learn the truth and discuss the club the way we want. The club and officials I hope take notice of your work and the importance of CQN to the cause in future years.

So enough of the platitudes, like your posts says, we dont know the strongest 11, my only fear is that we now have too many players, there is now 2 more players at the club than there were before the start of january, I maybe wrong on that one, I'm sure youll correct me on it if I am wrong. So if there was unrest before january what is going to happen now? we should have loaned Sno, got rid of Zurawski, although that is still possible due to the US transfer rules. We should eject pressley and killen, that would make me even happier.

Incidentally Paul, The carling shirt sponsorship ends in 2010, any thoughts on who we should have on or shirts when its time to renew, I'm sick of these joint sponsorship deals, its time to really split the OF up ( I hate using OF).

Seeing as its a time of joy I'll rephrase it for you...

I think that with Samaras we have finally found someone who will be capable of having the same impact/free-scoring ability/class first touch as the great man, Henrik.

Did you respond to all those ghuys that have claimed Scott McDonald is the new Henrik over the past 5 months? Just wondering...

And just to clarify, Henrik started to frequent CP from the same time I did as a 9 year old so to me he was numero uno. Just in case you thought I seemed a bit flippant with regards to his status.

Before the window opened ,i hoped that we would strengthen in the following areas.

    Rightback = Hinkel.
Leftback = void.Although Robson could do a Hartley in this position.

    Centreback = Void.
    Striker = Samaras/Hutchy.

I had hoped we would shift Magic and TG,with JJ being a possibility.

Some achieved ,but i still feel that we need to strengthen in the left fullback position, and that this may comeback to haunt us.

I'd also like to say a well done to all involved at Celtic in securing 5 quality additions.
No doubt the usual suspects will be on later to nitpick and tell us it's not really a net spend.
I was confident of winning the league prior to the window.
I am even more confident now.
Our nearest rivals have weakened themselves for the run in, selling and attempting to sell their largest playing assets. Cousin was scoring goals before but I have a feeling that he'll throw a moody now that he has to come back.

My hope now is that we begin to adopt a horses for courses approach for the rest of the season, both in playing personnel and team formation.

    Let the people Sing.
    Celtic ... Still the Champions.

I know that before the C.L. starts, Celtic had to supply UEFA withn a list of players who would be eligible for the Competition up to January. Teams are then allowed to name 3 further players(mainly to allow any Jan signings to play)but I am not clear if, in the example of Jarosik who has left, if Celtic are allowed to enter 4 new names.

Whatever the situation is I would suggest that Samaras, Robson and Mizuno will be the three and Hutchinson if Jarosik is replaced.

I think that Hinkel is cup-tied.

    Barca beware!

The real important fact is that we are stronger to ensure that we will still be

Lastly, on a comical note, I was driving back home tonight about 9.30am and was listening to Radio Scotland on MW. I laughed out loud when they said Smith, McCoist and Bain had been in Milan all day long trying to persuade that Italian bloke to come to Rangers.

It appears that the Italian striker got a better offer from Serie B side Brescia! Remember this is cash strapped Italian football we are talking about.

I reckon WS AmcC and AB were out in Milan, having a few pints on a junket to avoid any transfer business.

    Night Night

was waiting up just in case the huns pulled a fast one

after this week the huns have lost their best player and their top goalscorere is in a huff , they are light in defensive cover and have brought in a mediocre goalie , a pensioner defender and a player who can`t get into an abysmal Fulham team

we on the other hand have signed a number of quality players , have some of our injured players returning and now have the top two scorers in the league

the only downside is that we have a fair amount of deadwood and we really should have brought in a new goalkeeper .i know we tried

all in all good work and a much better end to TTW than in the summer

    TheTokenTim, “Upper Carfin” :-)

You would not believe the electricity problems we have.

Corrib04, thanks. I was looking forward to listening to Radio Scotland tonight, but the electricity let me down.

Lisboa, cheers. It will be a challenging time for our commercial people. Renewing/replacing a blue chip partner is about the most difficult thing the club will do.

    Malone19, free the Madrid 1.

    Celticlover, thank you.

syllawhowasmince, thanks. I know one or two who might disagree with you, though. :-)

    nelsbhoy,

you and me have an uncanny wavelength.

in 50 years time people will still be looking for the new henrik.

    we can all dream tho,

and i hope 1 day, i mention that i think i have seen the new henrik.

samaras can be a celtic great, so can young ben,

but the chances of them being a legend is slimmer than slim.

    jonathon88,

go back all these last 5 months.

there wont ever be a henrik has been mentioned lots.
and not just to you young man.

well done paul67, and well done the custodians of our club.

i am chuffed to bits, but only when the league is in the bag, will they hurt.
    personally, i cant wait.

well done celtic with regards to this young lad.

his career would have undoubtedly stagnated for the next 6 months, he could have even been made to train with the kids, because southgate ceetainly didnt seem like he had any time for the lad (during his rant that we should have kept all parties updated ie, hi gareth, thought out of courtesy i would let you know we are going to offer ben a contract. meanwhile gareth runs off and makes ben a quick and vastly improved cotract offer.................)

dont know anything about the kid, wikipedia have him down as 5ft 11. and WGS has said he offers us something different, so not sure what that is?

Don't buy newspapers, but will still be interested in the redtops take on the transfer dealings.
Will the Huns get a hard time or will it be a "major coup" to have beaten several unnamed EPL sides to the signature of Steven Davis.
I know which one my money's on.

And, somewhere on the inside back pages...... "Eh, oh... erm , aye Celtic bought a few guys on the cheap."

They had him down as a free on teletext, I doubt, in fact it better not be accurate!

They also had Wilhelmsson down as a free even though he's on loan from Nantes... speaking of which that's him moved from Nantes to Roma, Bolton and now Deportivo all in loan all (3) in one season?
