Robson in Green; Barry set to be a bhoy

Celtic will beat Nottingham Forrest and one other Scottish club, who matched Dundee United’s valuation, but failed to come up with the signing-on fee (despite banking all that money), to the signature of Dundee United midfield player Barry Robson.

The left footed Scotland player is in the form of his life this season and will bring aggression and goals to Celtic. Both will come in handy.

Oh, sorry about the headline; couldn't help myself.

The question for any Celtic historian who missed it:

Why should I have been misty-eyed when visiting a physio in Larkhall today?

    Aldo, no. :-)

    whatever our thoughts on Robson

he is a midfielder who will score goals, a huge asset for any team

our return from donati and brown so far has been poor in this area

robson shoots constantly from distance, something we have been craving the celtic team to do

SHOOT FFS is a regular cry

welcome to Celtic Barry, you are in the form of ur life shun as Paul has quite rightly stated

Barry Robson wouldn`t have been my first choice, but I wouldn`t have enjoyed seeing him sign for the darkside. Although, had they paid good cash for him i would have laughed, considering they let him go a few years back. Welcome to Cetic, Barry. And Ben, and Koki, and Giorgi, and Andreas. P.S. When are we going to sign anyone, the window is close to `slamming shut`. (They must have fitted Everest windows at Ibrox, because it only closes over there, and ever so quietly too. In fact, did it even open?)

I would be happy to see Robson in the side, as long as he keeps his temper in check, as he has for the past few months, he will be a good signing.

Charlie Adam blatantly handballs as the keeper throws the ball out, no yellow card.

Not my first choice, but could be useful for the run in. Looks confident, can shoot, score...

If nothing else he might give a kick up the jacksie to Donati and Brown, whose collective loss of form has been the prime reason for our aganoising performances of late.

    Welcome to Celtic, Barry.

Tell me there won't be a Petite Merde moment? Has Barry Robson actually signed?

If so, I think he's a shrewd buy.

We need variety. too many games thus far had a predictability about them. Robson can bang them in.

He also delivers a quality ball. Let's face it against Barca, set pieces will be vital. Naka and Robson can offer a real threat.

Barry Robson also knows his way about the SPL. To the guys who come on here and bemoan "oh no, not any more SPL mediocrity".

Have you tried buying any of Arsenal's players? And, while I love the fact that we've scouted some good quality players from outwith, we need a hardcore of guys, for the bulk of our games who can handle the every game's a cup tie approach, the hammer thrower players and the dung heap pitches we encounter in our away SPL games (when they're played).

Good shopping Celtic. But, Paul is this a done deal?

dont see how adding yet another above average midfielder was really necessary.

was certainly down the pecking order anyway.

personally i would have learned my lesson after hartley, a seemingly above average midfielder playing for an average team, and a very average player in a 'good' team (or above average)

and i dont think too many people will be all that pleased if it turns out that when we finally try approaching central defenders, that we may have to search for budget defenders when that £1.5m could have gone a helluva long way in recruiting a much better one

    Not long back from Motherwell.

Saw the TV footage of the pitch inspection from 3pm whilst in the pub for a pre-match pint and cannot believe that the decision was made that the pitch was playable at that time, as it clearly wasn't. Disgraceful stuff.

Robson is playing well just now - let's hope he isn't just another journeyman going through a purple patch like Hartley did at Hearts.

Very happy with Celtic's confirmed transfer business in this window, none the less.

I think Donati is unfairly getting a hard time - he was the only person in the midfield (who started the game) who was capable of playing football on Sunday at Falkirk, continually losing his marker and dropping deep to take the ball and play passes - except our profligate defenders kept ignoring him and launching shells up to McDonald and JVOH. On the rare occasions when they gave the ball to Massimo, he used it well.

Difficult to see where Robson would fit in outwith injury and suspensions. McGeady has left mid sewn up and on the occasions when Jarosik has been asked to deputise there this season, I think he's performed very well.

Difficult to see him getting a game at centre-mid either with the options we have there. Should be a reasonably useful squad player, but no more than that.

If he goes on to be a sensation I think I could live with being wrong though.

    :-)

If Hutchinson isn't likely to get his game up here and is down there I'd prefer to wait until the summer, let him pick up some vital experience.

While Robson might not be everyone's cup of tea I'm almost certain the game against Falkirk would have been a lot easier if he was playing in front of Nakamura.

robson will probably slot in at right back...only joking...but he could be makeshift cover for naylor...if we dont get kadlec ;-)
or any other midfield who drops form or injured or suspended...

im all asunder at the transfer business getting done before the window slams shut.... are we shutting it early to save energy? reducing our celtic carbon footprint?

pual is the answer Toxteth o Grady?

I am normally one of these guys that gets excited about every single signing Celtic make.
However, what underwhelms me about Barry Robson is that I believe him to be overpriced and I am confused as to where we are going to fit him in the team. Who knows, maybe Gordon is about to dispense with his inflexibility and start playing a 3-5-2 against teams who come and play 4-5-1 at Celtic Park. Maybe Robson will play away games, Naka home games. Also, if we really wanted him, why have we waited until after he is Scottish Cup tied?
Sorry, maybe it's just me, but I honestly do not think he is any better than an above average player in an average Dundee Utd side.

I wonder how deflated a new signing would become; after the joy of becomig a Celt, with a last 16 Champions League tie looming, expecting to be part of the squad, and probably had the imminent Champions League tie emphasised as a lure to entice you to join our club

...then to find out that you're not one of just three permitted additions to your European squad at the January transfer window.

    Bummer!

Any more signings of non-cup tied players and somebody will be seriously dissapointed.

if Robson had played in front of Naka on Sunday we wouldn't have won the game 1-0.
If we had got the ball to him a few times more it might have been 2 or 3.
Still glad to see him sign though, will be a useful addition.

Paul ,you have been stating that we weren't really after Robson, and that he would not improve the side ,also that if he was on our list he was not a first choice.

    Who did we not get?

The decision of who you add to your CL squad is not made until the window closes.

Naka put the cross in but so could have any player playing down the right. Apart from that he done nothing.

You're right though, it wouldn't have been 1-0 it could have been 3-0!

We have to carry too many players in too many of these away games.

Paterson just said that McCurry probably let Ferguson's blatant handball right in front of him go just because he'd missed the Consalves handball go a minute earlier.

Now that's what you call a pundit!!!

Mitchell just added that there weren't many complaints by the Hearts players. Would you bother with McCurry the ref?

Absolutely 100 per cent hand ball by Ferguson before scoring.

Billy Dodds says Rev McCurry should have spotted that handball but it is a fantastic goal.

Fergsuon clearly uses his left arm and the ball runs right down his forearm.

    McCurry is an absolute disgrace.

    Paul67.

Paul,My mate and I travelled 28miles to watch the game to-night,we arrived when the inspection was going on,we watched the ref bounce the ball and had two or three kicks at it,and to my untrained eye,but with Fifty odd years of watching Celtic, the pitch in my opinion was playable.
There was an inspection at 3 O'Clock, and the pitch was deemed playable.
From 3 O'Clock til we arrived there was no discernible ammount of rain fall,so either Brines at 3 O'Clock or Richmond at 18.30pm made a right pigs-ear of it.
    both could'nt be right.

Just as well he wasn't booked earlier, isn't it?

Goal by Ferguson -controlled the ball with his hand -right in front of Mc Flurry who gleefully ignored it.

Total joke of a referee this guy!!

Whether or not Mizuno merits a place, I would bet he expects (like all new signings probably would) to be included for selection. Probably blissfully unaware that there is even a limit to European squad additions.

I knew Hinkel was definitely not an option. Agree Huthinson would not be included.

    Is Kaka ineligible?

Priceless TV. Billy Dodds says Reverend Cheat let Barry`s handball go because he MISSED the handball by Concalves moments before!! So he doesn`t see one, sees the other yet allows it?? Jesus, look what we have for observers in this country.

BBC says " The referee Mike McCurry couldn't have had a better view of that" Yeh and thats why he restrained himself from joining in the celebrations.

Paul67's profanity laws prohibit me from expressing my view of Rev McCurry , plain and simple he is a cheat and makes Hugh Dallas look honest. Celtic should take whatever steps we can not to have this incomptent immoral cowardly individual involved in any of our games.

Can you imagine him refereeing Arsenal or Man U in the EPL and what Fergie or Wenger would make of that - he wouldn't be reffing any more of their games. To hell with the suspensions or the fines from the SFA lets take them on- Fergus beat Jim Farry lets start the battle.

I welcome the Robson signing, like Scott McDonald I always felt he was a danger against us; may'be see some "Murdo" type goals again.

Alasdair re Seville my cousin travelled from China to meet the family from the Monklands and he had the spare tickets!

Once can be described as "isolated".

Twice can be described as "random".

Three times or more indicates a pattern.

Mike McCurry has more than three times this season already been seen to treat Rangers differently to every other club he referees and Celtic very differently to how he treats Rangers.

In my view there is enough evidence this season to support a claim of incompetence. Or excellence, should Mr McCurry have another agenda.

One of the replay angles clearly shows you McCurry 10 yards from Ferguson no one in between.
Make make no mistake about it this man is a blatant cheat.
Paul67 delighted with the Robson signing.

In the English Premiership when refs miss obvious and big decisions they get relegated for a time - does this happen in Scotland? That R*****s handball goal wasn't even close to a tricky judgement call.

The reason McCurry didn't give the penalty just before, was not his obscured view, but because W****r S***h had told him he wasn't allowed to take the pens.

    malone19,
"apart from that he done nothing"

Thats what separates Naka from the rest my friend.
On a day when we couldn't string 2 passes together, one touch of class won the game.
The only reason he done "nothing" apart from that, is that nobody gave him the ball again in a decent position before or after the goal.
