Smith should answer for incompetent infrastructure

If only we lived in a country with weather forecasts. It’s a miserable night; it’s January, it’s a lousy night to be out of the house, especially if the object of your journey was postponed at an unnecessarily late hour.

Postponing a game less than 60 minutes before kickoff is rank bad officialdom; I look forward to hearing the next chapter from Gordon Smith’s about his incomprehensible incompetent infrastructure.

I blame the spl for allowing Gretna to play at Fir Park. The pitch is usually bad enough this time of year without doubling the number of games played there.

Not too disappointed this is off.

But we should all have known it would be given the go ahead at 3pm only for things to change. It was obvious the weather was deteriorating and the logical decision, hence the one that had no chance of happening, could and should have been taken.

As to the Brown story, why do people still get upset and indignant, and even believe the jist of these stories when we should all know fine well how often they appear on the cusp if an important match.

How good would our friends in Govan feel if they qualified for a final on the same night internal strife caused us to lose focus and drop points. I'll believe it when Brown turns up in Newcastle or wherever.

However, I believe that as a mark of respect we should refer to him as Gordon.

How was your trip to Larkhall then? I presume you had no difficulty driving through the town? You have no idea how much our Council has to spend replacing the green traffic light covers. They are now planning to put mesh covers over them to reduce the cost.

Other than that a delightful place for a day out in the country.

I would have Smith sacked for a whole variety of reasons, many of which have been aired on here, but the piece de resistance is his saying he could not contact Mark McGhee because he did not have his phone number. That isn't even pathetic; it's inexcusable (especially if were true).

in my opinion teams should not be allowed into the league or be allowed to buy any players if they do not have:

    1) Adequate Drainage
    2) Pitch Protection (covers)

Living in Australia as I do, I woke up at 3am (5pm UK) and switched on my Laptop to read that the game was "definitely going ahead" after a 3pm pitch inspection. I had another 2.5 hours sleep, got up at 5:30 for the 5:45 kick-off on Channel67, only to discover that the game was now postponed. My valve has now closed up.

What a shambles. The SPL is a complete joke and it just goes to prove that their incompetence revereberates around the world.

That said, I fail to understand why some posters, including the author, are blaming Gordon Smith as he is head of the SFA, not the SPL, and at least he is trying to convert us all to Summer Football.

According to FIFA the Cousin to Fulham deal has not yet been ruled on.

As I stated earlier today the "three club" rule runs from July 1 to June 30 and I can't see how there can be any dispensation because the French League does not fit the "summer-autumn league" get-out.

    The PA story says:

    COUSIN STILL IN LIMBO

Rangers were still waiting tonight for FIFA to make a ruling on Daniel Cousin's planned move to Fulham.

Both Rangers and Fulham announced yesterday that the 3million deal was off following a decision made by FIFA, however world football's governing body responded to the claims by insisting they had not delivered a final verdict.

Striker Cousin, 30, was poised to join the Cottagers but has been forced to wait as FIFA's rule preventing a player appearing for three clubs in the same season came into play.

Because the Gabon frontman played 20 minutes of a league match for Lens at the start of the French campaign, and then featured regularly for Rangers, a move to Fulham could be blocked by FIFA.

However Rangers and Fulham have both been hopeful that FIFA could give special dispensation for the deal to proceed, given the limited time Cousin spent on the pitch for Lens.

In a statement, Rangers said tonight: "We have been advised by Fulham that they are awaiting an official ruling from FIFA. As yet we are unaware of the timescale."

A FIFA spokesman expressed surprise at hearing Rangers and Fulham had declared the deal dead.

The spokesman said: "Nothing has been communicated yet so we don't know where this information has come from but it was certainly not from FIFA.

"We received the request to look into the matter from the English Football Association so the reply would be to them because they made the request.

"That should come soon because there are some time constraints but I can't say when."

We want Cousin to stay as he's not really worth 3m. Fulham are willing to pay it right now as they're getting desperate but in the summer few clubs would be willing to pay more than half that for him. Also if he does go back in a strop and fails to perform for the second half of the season then they could find themselves in possession of a problem player long after the summer. That would be amusing.

I'm very annoyed about the game being cancelled off so late. I had a rant on here last night about the state of pitches in Scotland. There has to be tough regulations on clubs to make sure that everyone is making suitable efforts to have an adequate pitch.

What a surprise:Cuellar rugby tackles a Hearts player just inside the penalty box.

What does the Rev McCurry give?

    Nothing!

    Paul67,

Now that Aston Celtic have signed Wayne Routledge, a player in the mould of Shaun, that will pave the way for him coming back?

    Just back from the "game".

Furious doesn't do justice to how I feel at the moment.

First away game of the season for me as well.

I live in Glasgow. I would be incandescent if I had travelled from further afield.

Another Rangers rugby tackle in midfield- once again no action from Rev McCurry.

Even the BBC pundits admit it was a definite yellow card.

    Alasdair

I got married on 17th May 2003, and travelled to Seville 2 days later (yes the wife came 2!). Suppose it was my honeymoon!

we went from Glasgow to London
    London to Barcelona
    Barcelona to Malaga

on way back we went Malaga to Madrid
    Madrid to London
    London to Glasgow

better still, brother in law (hello Jim Shun)

went from Perth Australia to Glasgow (for wedding), then Glasgow to London, London to Malaga

    i think!

Absolutely mindless and moronic attack on the BBC TV studio by fans banging on the walls and shouting obscenities at John Collins.

It is being blamed on "moronic Jambo fans" but where were the police?
