Martin42 and Paul67 I hope your Mum and Grandmother
is on the road to a full recovery.

My own mother, who is approaching her 80's
lives 500 yrds from Paradise on the London Rd.

She likes to make a big pot of soup for the family
arriving on Sunday, but is now unable to get to and
from Parkhead cross, as they have removed the bus stop
from outside her door, because it lookes unsightly
    outside the new Belvidere development.

Anyhow early every Saturday morning I jump over from
the South side with her Veg. I drive up Springfield Rd
and get the goosebumps whenever the Stadium comes into sight.
I love seeing it early in the morning when there is no one about
the screens all lit up. It's like coming home.

This morning as it appeared in all it's splendour (subjective I Know)
the anticipation of todays game was palpable.
Not because we haven't played there for what seems like eons,
but because today is the start of the week, when we should find out
how improved a side we trully are..

Our abysmal performance against Falkirk, has been followed by
the 5-1 demolitions of both Kilmarnock, and Aberdeen,
with Celtic back to sparkling form. The opposition, however
    has not been that great,
(despite Aberdeen's heroic performonce the other night).

Hearts should, however, give us a sterner test, and provide us
with the ideal game, going into Wednesday night.

Paul67 states that today is more crucial than Barca, i agree
only in as much as if you are Celtic your
Next game is the most important.

Gordon will have his players well prepared and ready to go
I'm sure they will not let us down.

We the Fans have a job to do today and on Wednesday
lets make sure that we are also up for it.

    Hail Hail.

ps Zbyszek absolutely delighted that you are ticketed up for
the game on Wed. Have a great time, I'm sure you'll be looked after

The sun is in the sky, we've got Barca in the Big Cup on Wednesday, and we're going to cuff the jambos to pile the pressure on McCurry's mob tomorrow.

    Let's make it happen Bhoys.

    Time to get moving...

Durty Nellys on Woemestraat on the edge of the red light district, 5 mins walk from the station.

Walk directly up the main street from Central Stn, looking left....when you see the Grasshopper cross over and walk up that short street past the Grasshopper at the end turn right. Nellys is on left hand side, maybe 100 mtres up but anyway on that street there are plenty sports bars/coffeeshops who sho such games.

Me an my mate will be there for the game also.....

    Good luck and enjoy.

Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league
They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,
They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,
From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,
To a place called dear old paradise and this is what they say.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.
There's Fallon, Young and Gemmel who proudly wear the green,
There's Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,
Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,
And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.

Hope you lot realise how lucky you are to be able to get to every game. Glasgowdave - your description gave me goosebumps. Hope your mum's soup is nice. My mum - same age same tradition of soup for all the family Sunday mornings. I have to tell all about the Celtic game even though I told her on Sat night when she was down at ours for dinner.

Anyway I have to make do with Radio Scotland - (not bad) and CQN (Hurrah!). Timing is everything - get some work done Sat morning and convince the wife to visit relatives in the PM. Text updates to No 2 son who has accountancy classes on Sat and text continually to No 1 son who is teaching in Manchester and keeping up to date with the good guys in O Shea's. So can't make many of the SPL games - only the first of the season so far (Kilmarnock)but have been able to get to all the CL games so far and will be at the Barca game on Wed. Jock Stein stand - I'l be the one wearing the pink carnation!!!

    Keep the updates coming.

    Phew!!!

Working in Amersfort for the next 2 weeks til I get back to Dusseldorf.

To all overseas: keep reminding us how lucky we are!

    A song then offski...

Oh Willie Maley was his name,
He brought some great names to the game,
When he was the boss at Celtic Park.
He taught them how to play football,
He made the greatest of them all,
Gallacher and Quinn have left their mark.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

In '38 there was a show,
And Glasgow was the place to go,
A model of the Tower was football's prize.
England sent four of the best,
They didn't meet with much success,
Because the trophy ended up in Paradise.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    Well Coronation time was here,
Fifty three, that was the year,
Another four from England met their doom.
They said we'll have to try again,
But like before it was in vain,
Because the Cup is in the Parkhead trophy room.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    And then in 1957
We faced a guy called Georgie Niven
The game is etched on every Celtic fan,
    Wilson, Mochan and McPhail.
And Willie Fernie scored as well,
As Celtic beat the Rangers 7-1.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,
All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

Well ten years, they had gone and so,
To Portugal we had to go,
To play the team that Italy adored.
    Celtic went out to attack,
They won the Big Cup and they brought it back,
The first time it had been on British shores.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    Now it's a new millennium,
We have a brand new stadium,
And we're among the honours once again.
The Celtic fans do proudly sing,
Larsson is the king of kings,
And he joins the list of famous Celtic men.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,
And most of the football greats,
    Have passed through Parkhead's gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    HAIL! HAIL!

Sensing some optimism on here over the last while... the team and management are sensing it to. The 'others' are going in the opposite direction... they're fading. Not even Kris Boyd can save them. Ahem.

Anyway, lhads, I've a dilema. I've just bought me a lovely hoose and there is an opportunity to name it, ie, have one of them plaques on the wall beside the front door. It's going to be Celtic related, obviously, and I'm toying with the idea of "Paradise", but not sure. The missus has given me carte blanche in the naming stakes, as long as she gets to name our first kid (no 'Henrik' this time round then)..

    So, any ideas?

Well I can’t speak for any of you other sad gits but I’ve been sitting here, waiting for this game to start, since the sun went down more than three hours ago.

I agree with a lot of others… this is the big one. Since the last big one, and until… the next big one.

Now we’re on a wee roll, and if we get a classy result today, there will be many a meeting held to surpass that which we all witnessed in Pablo’s Ipox bunker expose.

Just for the day the pressure will shift south, and tomorrow, more than ever before in the history of a Scottish football game, the focus of crowds’ apart will not be on the football, but instead on that least, liked - MIB.

Watch closely. Mr. O’Neill and all those sober bhoys who are brave enough to phone that partial pit of slime. Notes – preparation, practice, a big deep breath and a large one for the stomach – then call. Give them laldie.

If we get it right today, then every pair of eyes that celebrates in witness will be obliged to jury tomorrow’s festival of Class I refereeing. (believe me I typed that with a straight face only because it is that serious)

Mr McCurry… you could very well be… the most scrutinised Ref … Scotland has ever known.

I know that; you know that; Scottish football knows that. Every man and his pet dog, or goat, knows that.

I wonder how your stomach feels right now. Before the Celtic even kicks off.

Mr Speirs, if you’re tuning in at a loose end, his performance tomorrow, and those gone by, are there for you to comment on. It’s not Unidentifiable Flying Objects we are talking about here… it is instead simply… Unforgivable Fornicating Cheating.

Is Donati going to start today as more than likely he will start on Wednesday as Brown is suspended against Barca. Besides I now prefer Donati better than Hartley, the Laptop Loyal couldn't wait last Sunday to slagged Donati while praising Hartley. I thought Hartley had an excellent game on Sunday but I thought Donati played better against Killie and Celtic defended better with Donati playing deeper.

Good interview with Dr John even though I do not like his politics. Said all the right things and put the Huns in their place. He said the plan is to maintain Celtic as a force in Europe.

The only thing I didn't like was that when he was talking about Lawwell, twice he said he looks after Celtic the company, maybe I am an old romantic fool but I hate my team being reffered as a company.

I think that was his point. PL looks after Celtic the company allowing WGS to look after Celtic the team.

Mr Succulent Lamb himself on BBC Radio Scotland saying "David Murray will do something to generate finance soon." Claiming he has inside knowledge.

Incidentally, he also says Rangers' financial figures compare favourably with ours.

    Yep....mm hmm..... aye.

Fantastic comment by JR re Rangers problems, sir minty moonbeams will be raging.
On todays game I'm with Narrowbhoat tim and happy Massimo is back in the line up, felt he was playing really well recently until illness ruled him out last week. I can't imagine Samaras is gonna be too happy continually sitting on the bench, he's pretty much in the same situation he was at Man city at the moment. He did say that he came here to play and to win his place in the Greece squad and play in the champions league but unless skipp or JVOH get injured I don't think he'll shift them any time soon.

It's a situation like this that means that Samaras must take his chances when they arrive. Even though he didn't score last week i was very impressed with the fact that he won almost everthing in the air and looked sharp.

I think the pace of Samaras could be vital coming on as an impact player in a game like this as defenders are tiring.

    HT Celtic 1-0 Hearts

After a good first 15 minutes that produced in the opening goal the bhoys took the foot off the gas and allowed Hearts to dominate for a spell. Fortunately Hearts have little to offer going forward and the Defense have looked solid. Hearts have flooded the midfield and reduced opportunities for Naka and Aiden to do much damage out wide. WGS will be looking for Naylor and Hinkel to do more going forward in the second half.

Caldwell having a good game this week. Donati still looks a bit careless in possession. JVoH and Skippy not getting much service but both are working very hard.

Looking for more from Aiden and Naka in the second half. One goal should be enough but makes for a very nervous atmosphere.

    Donatilooks hungry.
Hinkel playing against a decent player but has not been in too much bother because Caldwell is covering well.
Can't see much changing unless we get another.
McGeady double teamed every time he gets the ball.
Let's start the second half like we did the first and we will be fine.
BTW the studs into Brown's HE HAWS was a lot more deliberate than it first looked.

WGS has a few problems here though.
Samaras really does look the part, question is how effective would he be from the start?
Midfield with Brown out Donati, Robson, Hartley, Sno 4-3-3 ?
Hinkel took his goal very well but got skinned terribly too often by Driver.
We look dangerous again going forward just like the old days.
Defense looked good down the middle for the best part.
Mick and Caldwell getting a good understanding as well as Naylor who has often been the brunt of some critisism here.
    Artur is Artur.
All in all 3-0 a good enough result .

A good display and a clean sheet, the pressure is on the Huns tomorrow, lets hope that Moanin Jefferies lot can get something.

Very strong second-half, Driver caused some problems with his speed down the right for Hinkel, he still don't look match fit yet, took his goal well. Samaras looks the business but how can you start him when JVOH and Skippy are scoring. We finally got options coming off the bench.

I thought the second half display was just as good or better than the Aberdeen game, plus I think Hearts are a better team than Aberdeen.

Again I thought Donati had a good game playing deep midfield role, he always made himself available to take a pass and his passing was spot on.

For Barca is has to be Robson starting for the suspended Brown.

I heard Arsene Wenger yesterday lamenting his lack of squad at this stage of the season. Our sub bench is looking more like other great teams, Arsenal included.

Good result for Barnsley, always had a soft spot for them because of Ronnie Glavin. Ronnie never let us down in a Celtic top.

Just back from game. Excellent performance, really satisfying to thump them of all the non-RFC teams in the SPL. Thought we largely controlled it apart from 20 mins in the first half when we seemed to lose our concentration.

    Stand-outs...

Hinkel, really solid defensively, took his goal very well. A find.

McManus: Tremendous clearance from under his own bar when it was 1-0- crucial.

Donati: Took lots of stick but I thought he was inventive and dynamic

    Skippy: Tremendous work-rate.

    Others...

    JVoH: solid game again,
Samaras: looked good when he came on, unlucky with shot that hit the post.
Robson: has dig and looks confident.
Aiden: Came onto game in second half

MOTM: Naka- he had it all- dig, delivery, strength and class.

Managed to catch the game on the net this morning and I have been impressed with the level and style of the performances over the past few weeks. Thinking back to the toil of November / December and even as recent as Falkirk away, how much have we improved over the past few weeks. My personal opinion that is the fear of losing the league to them has driven the players on over the past few weeks. As a set of fans we are always very quick to critise the players for sub-standard performances, and rightly so as it is our club, however now is the time to acknowledge the level of performances - congratulations Celtic!

Onwards and upwards to 3 in a row.....

On the subject of full back, and Hinkel obviously not able to play v Barca. I was hoping GS would put Caddis in, as I'd rather we play with a natural full back than someone out of position. But from Strachan's interview, talking about a big job for Hartley on Wednesday, sounds like he'll get the nod.

Overall we did very well today. Started strongly, but had a bad spell after the goal. It was as if the players stopped working and expected more goals simply to materialise. It might have been a different game had Hearts equalised.

The second half was very good. The flair players played, Donati had a great game and Brown got in about them. He does need to learn to shut his mouth though. A different referee would have carded him today.

Robson worked hard when he came on. Great to see a red headed midfielder snapping into the tackle. Samaras looked keen to impress, always demanding the ball. He showed some great touches of skill and his howitzer shot off the post deserved a goal. Good to see Hutcheson smaple the atmosphere even if it was only for the last two minutes.

Looked pretty close to a full house today and a good atmosphere. A good window and the last two wins have all raised the confidence levels.

    So who's next??

  • At 16/02/08 18:48, Blogger Ciara's Dad said…

I thought Donatti was our MOTM today with Naka not far behind him.
Driver gave Hinkel a torrid time down our right.
Samaras looked really good when he came on.
Robsons tackle on the Hearts player was fair but the ref gave a foul against him. It has been a very long time since I witnessed a Celtic player put in a tackle like that. I felt it in the NSUpper! He looks as hard as nails.
I didn't think our two centre halves covered themselves in glory. We seemed to get beaten to every high ball in the box.
Overall, a very enjoyable game to watch.

I would have thought that would be the plan. But something about the way Strachan talked about a BIG job for Hartley on Wednesday makes me think he's got him in mind for RB. Why would he put it like that if he was going to play Hartley in his preferred position.

Assuming that's the case, then Robson could be the choice alongside Donati.

    Always amazes me how two people who were at the same game can see things so differently;

Italiabhoy, the first player you mentioned as a stand out was Hinkel - my own assessment was that he was the weakest of our 11 players today (note:not necessarily poor). He scored a great goal and made one superb intervention, however, defensively he was caught out several times too many for my liking.

I'd like to caveat the above by saying I wouldn't have come on here and mentioned anything about Andreas's performance if I hadn't seen someone singling him out for praise regarding his overall performance.

I also think, given time to adjust to the pace of our league, he will be an excellent signing.

    Anyway, onward and upwards.....

Good performance. Bobo back in on Wednesday please!! Need the big mans presence especially when he balls come in from free kicks. We aint winning enough first balls in the air particular and the calibre of player we are playing on Wedenesday will punish us.

Caldwell at right back on Wedenesday with Bobo in with Mick. Hartley to sit in front with Donati, Naka and Aiden.

I'll going to be controversal here and say Smaras with McDonald. Jan has played good since the windy shut but possesion and making the ball stick and linking will be the key on Wedenesday.

Imagine my predicament, not being able to get to the game myself. I've read (not necessarily here) that Mick was immense at the back, and also that the the centre halfs were beaten to every high ball in the box.

Subjectivity is one thing, but either their winning lots or not. :S

I'm not going to read all the way back now, but I think I read the former opinion somewhere else, and the latter here. Till I see highlights, think I'll put my faith in the CQNer.

Another very fine performance again today. I realy enjoyed the game. A full house too, it's amazing what a few goals and a couple signings can do!!

It's funny how people's opinions can differ.

I thought Donati was once again MOTM, closely followed by JVOH. The big man led the line very well today and won virtually everything in the air. I felt sorry for Paul Hartly, but the manager's decison was completely vindicated. Donati was outstanding today.

Somebody mentioned that they thought Hinkel was solid. Personally I thought he was pretty poor defensively and completely skinned and well out of position on a good few occassions. Granted he is probably not yet fully up to speed, but his first couple of games have been inauspicious to say the least.

Samaras looks a trmendous player - quick, strong, skillful and athletic. He looks too good to be making cameo appearances in the last 20 minutes, but who to drop??

A big dilema for our manager.

After two and a half years in charge, things may be beginning to click in to place for Gordon Strachen, which brings me to my final point - what about that crap on BBC Radio Scotland around 2.25??

After two minutes of discussing our financial position they spent ten minutes telling us how Aiden McGeady will be sold for £15m; how Peter Lawell has taken the club as far as he can and will move to a job in the Premiership; ditto for Gordon Strachen after this season.

You could hear the apprehension in their voices as they tried to talk positively about our Club. At one point Traynor butted in to remind us that Rangers' results were good as well, presumably in the name of "balance".

It was truly pathetic how they just couldn't come out and say Celtic are doing a fantastic job and leaving Rangers behind.

    Public service broadcasting indeed.

Great piece of man management for Gordon Strachan bringing Donatti back when everyone was expecting PH to be in. Donatti is a confidence player and he returned Strachan's faith with a sterling performance. Hartley will get his games - he is extremely important for us. Might have been different if Hearts had won mind.

Georgeous George must start against Barca. The guy has strength, pace, flair, power. can link play, can head the ball and can tackle.

Can anyone reassure me about Hinkle? Seems to have been suspect - at least according to some posters here.Good going forward and can score goals. Defensively?

Well said on the BBC today. I mentioned earlier about Traynor's introduction to the phone in, and meant to go on and mention the earlier pathetic discussions (and forgot). Traynor's assertion that Rangers would no doubt come up with something soon was at best a petulant "so what".

It was all true to form, by the usual suspects, who are starting to panic as they see a one team on championship winning form, and another soon to be shown as the average mob of hammer-throwers that they are.

Hinkel was pretty rotten defensively today, caught out of position a good few times.

think he seemed more interested in getting forward and staying there!

Roasted for pace a couple of times which I hope is down to fitness.

If he had been against a better player with the ability to shoot or look up and pick a decent pass we would have lost a goal today.

Not taking anything away from his attacking abilites or his goal, mucho appreciation for that but he needs to improve on his number 1 role. Defending.

For what it's worth, my highlights were Brown's workrate (off the scale), Donati's tackling, all the goals, Nakas free-kick in 6 minutes (I thought he was too close in to get it up & over) and Samaras' shot near the end.

I studied Hinkel very closely today. First half in particular.

Granted Driver got in a few times however they guy is a buzzbomd and would tear anybody apart with that pace. Hinkel will need to do some work with Mr Dupont to get a bit faster.

With regard comments about him being out of position. The first half if you look at Hinkel and the balls played over the top into space behind him. The reason he was getting caught out was because he is providing cover for the centre half on that side. Our two centre halves were to far over to one side. Our manager was quick to point this out to Gaz and Mick a few times on the field. At one point in the first hald he was none to happy. Shouting and bawling from the bench.

Our manager did allude to this last week that Andreas was getting caught out because he was covering for the centre halves and the positions they were taking up. It's basic stuff of defending as well.

That was why it looked that Hinkel was getting caught out in the first half with the over the toip balls.

However, i do agree that he will need to get a bit quicker. I believe that will come over the course of the months. Got to remember he is just starting to play reguarly again. He was not featuring much from Seville plus the injury he picked up with his thigh set him back a couple of weeks. Patience the key here.

We seen a few glimpses in the second half what a bargain we could have got. What a goal!!

It will be interesting to watch the performance of Scotland's Player of the Year elect tomorrow, the man who will almost single handedly determine the destination of the flag,M.McCurry.

I believe his record this season has radicalised and galvanised our whole club and has contributed to the visible increase in endeavour and steel in our play.

John Reid pulled no punches today in his interview with Young and said nothing that the pundits could argue with, except the Freudian slip of saying that Celtic were four points ahead.

Gordon Strachan, in his pre match interview said that Caddis had a family bereavement and that he explained his reasons to Paul Hartley for his omission.

I really hope you're right. Hartley does have the ability to protect the defence in a big game, and can give that extra shoring up, without compromising the formation.

If that is to be, it will be interesting to see who'll be alongside him. Donati, by all accounts had a great game today. Robson's got a great bit of dig, and a great shot on him too, which could be invaluable in a game like this.

I think Donati will get the nod, with Robson a good option from the bench. If it was my choice, I think I'd go Hartley/Robson in centre mid, and Caddis at RB, and bring on Donati when we're cruising at 3-0 up. :D

    Great stuff Bhoys,

Living in Auld Reekie, there's only 1 team I like beating better than Hertz (and it's not Hibs)......so today was very enjoyable.

Was a bit worried about midfield before the game, knowing it would be more physical than our last 2 games.

Donati I thought was poor in the first half and I wanted him hooked for Hartley at half time.

But credit to Massimo - he played very well in the 2nd half, tracking back and winning the ball and some of his first time passes were excellent.

I agree with earlier posters that Samaras is going to be one hell of an Impact Sub (if not a starter). He gives us a totally different option to big JVoH and will do well at Paradise.

Weans and aul' hauns were united it tears at Celtic Park today, and it was all the fault of a German interloper in the penalty box.

For the weans it was shock, the removal of one of life's certainties. Celtic full backs canny defend, never mind score goals. Young minds can be damaged by such an abrupt disruption of the laws of Celtic physics.

Beam me up Scotty. (Whit d'ye measn, which Scotty?)

Aul' hauns, on the other haun, were weeping tears of nostalgia. Not since Tommy Gemmell, Andy Lynch or Didier Agathe have we seen anything like it.

Could this be the all singing all dancing team that we've been making such a song and dance about not having? What happened to team 3? When did it become team 4?

Football with a smile on its face. That's what I saw today. The fact that the sun was shining is nothing more than...wholly appropriate.

PS. Man of the match? Gary Caldwell.

PPS. glasgowdave, nice to meet you today (and vclxi - hope I got that right) and great post at 11.42.

Great form of late but just a bit worried we are getting carried away a bit, we are talking about not just beating Barca but by how much. I love confidence but we must not get too carried away, lets just hope for the win, keep the faith.

hope the wee one enjoyed the game as much as I guess you and I did

Reading through most everything has been said about the game

One thing that struck me was how much quicker Boruc was at coming out of his box than usual - clearly something he has been working on this week - certainly valuable if we want to defend higher against teams e.g. Barca

Could the role of PH be a man marking job on Wed? Not sure who is most dangerous on the ball for them this season but in seasons past Ronaldinho and Deco would have been worth denying space - saving energy for that would make sense

Sitting here by my new log burner thinking back warmly of a fantastic sharp and sunny day at Celtic Park where the team sparkled and the up coming match became something to be eagerly anticipated

Not posted for ages.I've been catchin up with things lately and I'd like to say the site is getting better by the day so kudo to Paul67 for the content

Watchin the Barca game at the mo and think the Spanish M McCurry is refereeing. Barca just been given an outrageous penalty due to the " referee's assistant. I just hope we have a strong ref for Wednesday night cos Barca are there for the taking. Does anyone know when the ref's are appointed, as feel this is going to be a crucial factor in the game.

I'm kind of watching Barcelona away to Zaragoza just now. The commentator has just referred to Barca's tough upcoming schedule, starting with Celtic. Earlier in the studio they were talking up our chances of a result on Wednesday.

So different from Setanta at the weekend, where they obviously thought Bayern were a much bigger challenge for Aberdeen than were Celtic. "If Celtic can do this, Bayern will destroy them" was the line. Which team is in the last 16 of the CL?

Where football is considered objectively, we have respect. Thanks to Martin and Gordon for putting us back up where we belong.

Barca have held out hold out for 2-1 which will certainly help their confidence, thanks mainly to Senor McCurry. Having watched the game their keeper Valdes has definitely looked suspect with cross balls so feel Aidenho and Naka are going to be vital on Wednesday, Naka's delivery from set piece's will be extremely important. I would prefer to see Caldwell rather than PH at right back, think it's too much to throw Caddis in for this and Bobo at the back although their speed on the break will definitely cause us some concern, we will have to be at our tightest at the back. Robson to come into midfield in place of Broony as think he could turn into a matchwinner and Samaras coming on as an impact player again in place of JVOH (anyone else noticed his workrate has doubled lately??)

All in all we are set up for one of the greatest nights in our history, like most of you I have a feeling we WILL win but we can't get too optimistic as we are facing a different class of opponent. Barca to score but 3-1 the Hoops. Can't wait!

Enjoyed the game, thank you Polstar, with 15 other fans.
I thought Massimo was man of the match, with Aiden next. I don’t here anyone complaining about Naylor anymore, is it only when playing badly that he is to be mentioned?
Over all, Hinkel had a good game. He was caught for pace twice in 90mins, but why did neither of the central defenders not cut across to cover him? He was continuously drawn into the centre when both Caldwel and McManus moved out off position at the same time.
Naka is definetly back and Brown is getting back to his early signs of promise. I was disappointed to see Hartley dropped but, Donati, to me, was outstanding.
We haven’t been discussing the Barca game at all, and I get the feeling that some fans think its our last match in the CL this year. Not me, I’m convinced that we will beat them over the two games. Given our outstaning performances in the CL over the last 5 years, we should FEAR NO ONE. Remember AC and Man U ???
    Bring it on !!

Another good performance today. I thought Donati was the best player on the pitch. He defended well and hardly gave the ball away all day. Hopefully that's the 'settling in' period over and he will maintain the level of performance he has shown in the last 2 home games. Presumably Keevins and Guidi gave him a doing on the radio and a match rating of 2! My Man-Of-The-Match.

Hinkel looked ropey at times against Driver but like WGS said earlier who wouldn't when in a race with him? Going forward he looked to have a good understanding already with Naka and I see many goals being created and scored from the right hand side when these two play together.

Anyone else think Boruc was bang out of order today in his tete-a-tete with big Mick? Boruc was slack in dealing with the passback and Mick had every right to let him know as much. Good to see the passion in Artur but IMO he should have held his hand up in this instance.

Things looking really good, I just wish we were playing the other mob sometime soon.

As for wednesday night, I don't expect Hartley to play at right back, he should slot into centre mid alongside Massimo, who has really sorted himself out of late and is turning in some great performances. I would be happy to see Caddis come in at right back, according to yesterdays Daily Star, our young Caddis is a Celtic "Star" and the rags are never wrong.

Just back in from a night at the Cinema, the Coen Brothers like our beloved Celtic didn't disappoint.

I thought we started off really well today, but dropped out of the game for a 20 minute spell, after Jan's goal. For all their possession during that period, Hearts never really carried a threat.

When Scotty scored our second, his 24th, then we appeared to up a gear, and played some delightful football.

I do wish that the angry brigade would hold fire with their condemnation of certain Celtic signing, and allow them to settle into their new environment this can sometimes take a full season.

The indications are that Massimo is finding what is required in the SPL, and his performance today was excellent.

There was so much that was good to watch today, Naka and Aiden were a joy at times, big George has such a relaxed gait when he glides by opponents, and his shot was a cracker.

    Jim Craig's goals

    1967/68

1 against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the League Cup group. We won 5-1, our other full back (TG) scored as well, I was there.

2 in the semi final against Morton. We won 7-1. Jim was the only goal scoring full back that day. I was there.

    1968/69

1 against St. Etienne at CP in the Big Cup. We won 4-0. The other full back scored as well. I was there in the Jungle. So was the soon to be Mrs Chennai (although the Chennai thing was far in the future. But the jungle connection is kind of interesting.) Jim's only goal at CP.

1 against St Mirren in the league at Love St. 3-0 for us. I was probably there. Paisley a jungle?

1 in the league cup final against Hibs. 6-2 for the good guys, and Jim was the only scoring defender. Maybe if he'd sat back a bit we'd have won 5-1, or even better 4-0.

No, on second thoughts 6-2 was perfect. I was there. If he'd sat back we'd probably have lost more goals.

Only kidding Jim, thanks for the memories. I was there for your game against Wales as well.

It was a good performance today, and shows good omens for the future. Teams need time to gel, not just individual players, and the most consistent team in recent times in the CL has a team that seldom changes - AC Milan.

I think our summer transfers have been completed already, I would say we might bring in a quality left back and any more promising young diamonds in the rough that we might spot, but if we only brought in a left-back, I would be more than happy. At that point, we would have quality cover for every position.

Canny sleep. My wife and I have agreed to up sticks from ingerlund and move back to her homeland and fair city of dublin. All the signs are good, redundency payment, falling house prices in west county dublin, steady price in east midlands of ingerlund, kid ready to start school in sep, good job market in my background and very good help from colleagues on contacts, family in the irish mortgage game etc etc. Still can't sleep though because although it is very exiting , the fear of failure as the steady breadwinner is always lurking. Also the fact that I have recently paid my dues to the Derby CSC and I'm not sure if I can transfer these subs to a Dublin CSC.
    You see my turmoil?
    At least CQN is international.

On today's game - i saw nothing but had BBC Sco on the PC and Clyde 1 on the Freeview in the kitchen. Former was excellent and reflected the balanced views of the CQN posters but the latter sounded like they were reading a vidiprinter and imagining what was going on. When I lived in Glasgow , at least I believed Richard 'Ibrox' Park was watching the game. Sounded like West Sound from the 80's with Bryce Curdy( not the CQN guy, the foreign object, Crosshouse Hospital guy).

The only games I have been up for this year have been Saints 1-1 and Gretna 3-0. Both were mince and I could not believe the serious lack of effort in those games(in any other business they would have been on a final warning). The last few games have made me walk on air and after watching Arsenal not shake a leg today I realised that despite all the business talk on here(can't believe some accountant talked about GAAP rules - drink more!!!!), this is fitba and finance is not irrelevant but is a boring necessity and all that matters is supporting the 11 guys on the pitch to the hilt and bollocks to the result.

Take some risks guys this midweek. We love Celtic to attack so lets attack verbally as a support before the gane and Gordon Strachan get all ideas of a 4-5-1 oot yer heid.
    Attack, attack , attack

Best attacking game at CP I was at:-

    SP Lisbon 5-0 '83
    R Vienna(spit) 3-0
    Cologne 3-0 '93
    Neuchatel Xamax 1-0 '92

The last one was not a joke. From where I was sitting(yes, front stand to impress ma da) we should have had 4.

Sorry for the ramble, emotional time and I don't post much due to the blog failing when i do or my crap 'narrow'band failing.

PS Anyone in Dublin who knows of any good aerospace/tech/commercial jobs going , my CV will be ready tomorrow!!!!!

    cheers

Was Josimar not playing for Cowdenbeath in the Kingdom Ay Fife when he scored that cracker vs Norn Irn?

First time that I have seen Samaras play and I have to say I was very impressed. Holds the ball well ,looking for an attacking pass or a shooting opportunity. Fantastic strike ..shame it didn't go in off the post. JVOH will need to be very sharp , every game , or he will lose his place to Georgie bhoy. I must admit I don't usually hold out hope that Christmas signings are ever much quality but Gordon Strachan looks like he has added significant quality to Celtic. These bhoys can become legends. Robson impressed me too. Terrific fighter and looks like a strong , hard , thinking player. I am really looking forward to Wednesday and the rest of the season. Who said it...your spot on.. this is the best of times and we have a team here. I think that I will set my alarm clock for 4 am more often , worth getting up just to watch McGeady. Totally screwed up my life and for my sins I will be arriving in Makati City (Manilla) this Wednesday evening. The night of the ‘Barcelona’ game.

I’ve never been there before, and everybody I do know who is there have gone on their ten days off.

I’ll be on my toad in a totally unknown city without a scobie of where to watch the game.

I’ve tried everything I could to find a venue, but as of yet, no joy.

Anybody got info on where I might catch the game?

My nomination for ‘Richard a la tete’ of the month goes to Former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr.

‘If’, what he is reputed to have said is true and verbatim; i.e. Aiden McGeady should pack his bags and leave Celtic.

I suspect it is no more than a Red Top mixing the manure but if Brian’s words are reported accurately, I have one question only for him.

Where would he go where he’d be better off?

He’s still a kid learning the game Brian and he’s doing just fine - just where he is. Just like that other Celtic great that you mention did. Did him no harm at all hanging around those seven years whilst some great whites were circling.

Must be a big Cetic game on the horizon somewhere.

    Morning all,

Great performance all round yesterday, all the flair players have already been praised but Caldwell & McManus had a solid game, the full backs did well though Andy H got skinned by Andy D a few times. Lee N is regaining form and confidence.

Hinkel's replacement is vital for Wednesday, we need a replacement with pace to counter Barca's fast passing game- don't think PH or GC have enough pace for full back but is Paul Caddis ready? If so he should be thrown the jersey, disappointed he did not get a spot on the bench yesterday.

Ooh Ahh is really pushing for a starting spot, he was electrifying yesterday and is proving a real impact sub, this may be the role for him on Wed.

The difference between posters on here and Follow Follow.

Are myriad, I know, but lurking for a brief moment this morning I noticed reaction to the Sunday Mail's story about Alan McGregor leaving his current girlfriend (professional poker player and lap dance bar manageress) for a new one ( daughter of notorious brothel keeping gangster, whom he met whilst with messrs Adam and Hutton, apparently).

It wasn't so much the reaction to the story which caught my eye (non judgmental, kind of ' And What?'), as the common approach of some posters to the fact that 'she' hadn't been to the shops yet, or 'my one' was popping put for their paper in a minute.

It might just be because there is a big game coming up.

I didn’t tear into the man, Brian Kerr, and I did qualify my post with:-

“‘If’, what he is reputed to have said is true and verbatim”.

I know that people, who are misquoted, misrepresented, paraphrased, abused, by the media are never given the same opportunity to unequivocally qualify their words. I just wish there was a legal and binding, contractual way, whereby, if through courtesy, you give an interview, your words do not appear in print without your prior acceptance and consent.

And if they are misrepresented, they should use an alternative means of media to accentuate the philistine antics that the old media can stoop to.

I’m really an oily rag man myself. When there’s a crappy job needing doing, I’m not so much the man that draws the short straw, I’m the man that’s gifted it - as though it is my privalage. Don’t believe those who would tar me a ‘yuppie’. They have not a clue of what they type.

No mobile phone pour moi and definitely no Lap Top either. No sharp suit and the only jewellery I wear is a Celtic One badge given me by one of Celtic’s finest. But things are looking that desperate that I’ll be insisting on the use a Lap Top upon arrival. Wonder if it’s too late to get Ch67 written into the contract.

    The Long Wait is Over:

Spotted it but is too far away and what I’ve been reading on the US Navy pages it might not be open anymore.

I actually got a call from one of the posters on here as he made his way to the game yesterday. Makes you so homesick for the Celtic.

    Curly:

I just know you are going to enjoy your night. I’m not going to say we’ll win over the two legs but if I were a betting man - my bet would be that we will be going thru’ at the expenses of Europe’s second best team.

I live in the midlands and am very busy so it is hard to get to games, but i would take the time off to watch the big games (e.g. CL, Rangers etc). Of course these are always sell outs, an not having a season book it is impossible to get a ticket.

If the ground was 80-75,000 i am sure i'd have a better opportunity to go to the games! Selfish i know, but long term i am sure it would help the clubs finances.

    Kano:

The same people who took me to Fenians (a good pub in Perth, W.A.) are the same people I am going to Manilla with.

I thought I had it all sorted for me to stay here in Brisbane but at 11.30 Friday morning both my local options renegaded on our verbal deal and so I had four hours to make a decision. I could’ve gone back to Perth and I tried, but I couldn’t get a hold of the girl, or the agent, who made the better offers; so biting my nose off, I accepted this one. I have a couple of right good mates up there, but unfortunately football and Celtic is not their thing. Alcohol, women and martial arts is their forte. Ah well, at my age one out of three ain’t bad.

You know that was not what I wanted. I’d rather be watching the Celtic with you Ramie, Rosie O’Grady and Georgiebhoy, if he ever gets a pass out, than scurrying the streets of Manilla trying to find a Celtic Friendly Bar. And I will. (I wonder if any passing cyclist will call me a ‘durty Fenian BarSteward’ over there).

Just an aside, the only thing I’ve packed so far is five Celtic strips that I bought of e-bay. Most places I go… they are a currency unto themselves.

However, there is a wee bit of the Machiavellian in every Scotsman and before I have even left I am already working on ways to weasel out at the earliest opportunity.

Maybe a black one in Fenians isn’t too far away.

The last 3 games have given me great hope.

I'm back to singing "there's only one Gordon Strachan" again.

    Keep the momentum going.

    We shall overcome.

well the transfer story as forecast on these very pages duly appeared on sat morn, with the news
Oor Artur was heading to milan for
    10 milloodles
after the weird behaviour in the second half inhouse meelee some people might think HMmmmmmm
Did my ears deceive me But!!!!!!!!!
on radio snyde on the journey home
old Ned flanders actually said something positive re the Tic
I was so shocked we had to pull in at a PH and have a single malt
double of course, same measure again in water and hold the ice
Yes and once again its that time of the year the dreaded POTY
There seems to be a neck and neck
tie in pole position between the stalwarts of tfod watertight defence Weir and Cuellar, closely followed by Bazza, who is carrying the old rugged (sorry rangers) cross on his back all by himsel and bodychenko for making hun type faces for the lap top loyal.
Howevah ,my stick on choice for POTY is Michael (damn my father)
    McCurry, a clear favourite.
Well thats it for now, Pub time

I was lucky to be invited by a colleague to the Emirates for the recent Arsenal v Newcastle game (the Tues eve league game).

A fabulous arena, superb atmosphere, and Arsenal on the night were different class.

Already looking forward to the next invite!

I was in Fenians during my recent visit to Perth W.A.

I had some phone/photo's taken with some natives.
Unfortunately my phone went into meltdown over there and i have lost all my holiday snaps.

I did like the bar,and the name was so too the point.

At the bottom there is some nonsense about Rangers getting involved in a motorsport adventure.

    Trabant rallying?

    Unleaded moonbeams anyone?

Any Tim who goes to Perth would have to have one in there. Had a few in Durty Nellie’s too but by far the best was Rosie O’Gradies and the Perth CSC.

One Friday when I was over there, one for the statisticians hit me; I was walking from the office to the boozer (The Moon and Sixpence) a walk of about three hundred yards. No game on, nothing to bring out the anoraks, between that office and that pub at about 5.30 ish on a Friday evening I passed six people wearing Celtic Strips. Does that mean that outside of Glasgow, Perth is the most Celtic friendly city in the world?

I know it’s not but it was great to see.

Also, I was stood outside my non-smoking hotel having a smoke on the night of Australia day. I was wearing the lone star Lisbon Tee shirt. Three times, passing pedestrians, Hail Hailed, me without ever breaking stride or making eye contact.

A wee nod of acknowledgement and my heart was bursting with pride.

Hearts really put in the effort yesterday and during the second half they tried to out muscle Celtic. An interesting tactic that I didn`t see when they played the horrible lot at Hampden recently. Well played Brown and Donati for standing up to this physical approach. Barry Robson also showed that he can respond to this! :-)Good practice for future games.

It was good to see the ground full yesterday and some decent community singing. Was it due to our previous 2 displays? Whatever...it was a great atmosphere. Good to hear Aiden being chanted throughout the game from the fans and also my favourite from Swinecastle last year.. "Oh les petite huns sont merde"

Yet again I hear on Setanta that the Rankers defence is so good it's only second to Man Utd in the UK.

No mention that Chelski or Liverpool have the same goals against or that Celtic, having played a game more have only conceded one more goal....
