Zurawski leaves Celtic for Greece

Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski left the club last night to start a new career in Greek football with, I understand, Super League club Larissa. I believe Celtic earned in the region of £500k from the deal.

Good luck Maciej and thanks for that goal at Ibrox. And all those smiles.

    Good luck to Maciej.

I hope he rediscovers his form in time to be influential for Poland at the forthcoming EURO's.

I always got the impression that if he had a bit more self belief he could have been an even better forward than what he was. Very much a confidence striker. If it was high he was usually on the money.

A pity that he didn't seem to relish the challenge of more players at his position, although injuries at inopportune times didn't help his cause.

All the best to Magic. Have fun in the sun.

He would have been worthy of a wee farewell wave at CP.A nice guy but seemed to have lost his motivation. Danny is right though we want more Polish players not just for the satellite but to encourage the Poles in Scotland to join us. I like the idea of us still being the club for the immigrants not concerned about which flag you were born under.

From previous thread and I have updated it to include Magic.

Am I correct in saying that the Huns have actually spent nothing this transfer window, even Hibs spent more than £100,000 in this window.

The only newspaper that I could find that actually criticized the huns was the Times which started the story "Rangers were left red-faced last night after their bid to spend up to £7 million on securing Andrea Caracciolo"

Celtic are quoted as spending £4 million, thats £3,750,000
for all those Net Spender Nutsout out there. I haven't calculated the Net Spend for all of the season.

    3-in a row CSC

    Good Luck Magic

Aiden will be happy with the winter window as the two main contenders (other than Skippy)to him winning POTY have lessened their chances.

Robson coming to us and getting less games probably will make it harder for him to get POTY.(I know he could come in and play loads and therefore enhance his chances but I do think his chances have reduced)

Hutton away severely reduces his chances and although they will still want to give him it, the fact he hasn't played in the 2nd half of the season should be enough to see him out of contention.

Just keep it going Aiden and POTY for you my son

suddenly the transfer business looks a bit better

jarosik out - not a player we need for a gritty spl climax

robson in - one who can perform in the spl

    zurawaski out - bench fodder

    samaras in - talented player

in terms of the spl title race good business except no CB, or LB cover tho i am guessing wilson and doumbe will be like new signings anyway

Slightly off topic and probably 48hours late but I have to be honest I am a long time lurker on this forum and 1st time contributer but I have to say the vitriol I read about the Rev. McCurry remided me of fascist fascist at its best and left a little bad taste.

I do believe he has an inherrant and in-built bias towards the FOD and that appart from this, some would say, natural bias on his part, he is a hopelessly incompetent whistler (woeful I believe is the current parlance) I did, however, comfort myself with the thought that at least the Celtic community did not resort to the foaming at the mouth, letter writing diatribes as befits the somewhat over-emotional rabid element that dwells on the other side and we could rise above it and know that honesty, justice, integrity and the SSM would prevail in the battle against the aforementioned FOD.

I do not wish to deride anybody's comments or fears about the blatant bias toward our 'other half' however I do not wish to see us descending into the same pit f vile that we witness from our fiends.

I satisfy myself with the knowledge that what we are witnessing in the press, the pitch and the ruling bodies is the death throes of 'Scotlands second biggest institution' and that we will prevail.

Hail Hail to a generation of domination

Excellent new and good luck Magic.

Transfer fee aside, we've just saved in the region of a quarter of a million pounds in wages from now until the summer. A nice bit of business considering the likelihood of Zurawski getting any time on the park being very slim.

I hope Ray Clarke and John Park will be busy looking for a top-class striker for the summer window. If Samaras doesn't cut the mustard or we can't attract him to sign permanently we'll really need some quality brought in. Riordan and Killen are only good enough for backup and there's probably a decent chance at least one will be off in the summer.

Immediate response is a true reflection and so when I saw the headline my immediate response was

'Och Magic, yer away.' And it was with regret.

It's weird how you view and hold players in esteem - even above their performance/s.

I cared not for Kenny Miller leaving or Gravesen.

But my immediate response was sadness for Magic leaving. As someone above said - that smile, that goal.

    I wish him luck.

CELTS STARS LEAVING IN DROVES. Celtic again failed to hold onto another of their star internationals today, when Maciej Zurawski jumped ship and headed for sunnier climes, hard on the heels of Jiri Jarosik, who yesterday also headed for sunnier climes. (well sunnier this week anyway)(maybe) Mirror that with their deadly rivals who succesfully managed to prise back Daniel Cousin from under the noses of EPL giants, Fulchester Rovers. They also snatched Christian Dailly from EPL Cracks, WestLifeUtd. And they got somebody else from somewhere else, also in England, and yet another massive big team. Walter even had the luxury of flying to Milan just to tell an Italian that he wasn`t good enough for the SPL tabletoppers. Oh how the Mighty Gers fans must be salivating, nothing new there, then. Small minded Celtic got a few players in, but that doesn`t really matter, does it?

Can't believe Frank Hadden's selections for this week's egg chasing competition.

How could he ignore the superb ball handling skills of Bazza Ferguson?

And if he needed someone to consistently drop on the ball and retain it, after each and every tackle, then how come Hutton never made the squad never mind the team?

Next thing you know they'll be picking kafflicks.

Er, is this the right blog?

Before the window I must be honest and admit I thought we'd blown it in terms of our title aspirations, now, what with the fiasco of Walters unsuccessful trip to Italy, (can you imagine how that story would have panned out had it been oor Gordon instead of Walter -knocked back for a second div oufit!) and our success in what looks like a fair beefing up of the squad - I'm now thinking if we win the next old....ooops.....game against the baddies - there will no stopping us.

Of course that's a pretty big if, but I'm sure with big Bobo's help and at last - pressure on Jan - c'mon big man sort it out - we can do it. Onwards and upwards ghuys, lets hope we give the Killie boys a severe tanning tomorrow so we can all enjoy our Saturday night.

Becca is my darling, the fervour which McCurry is responsible for is because he has an agenda against our team. We were spineless at Ibrox, yet he booked 9 Celtic players. This is not incompetence. There were Kilmarnock players getting away with much more last week, and his booking of Scott McDonald was pure spite, and it is no coincidence that the SPLs leading scorer being suspended could have a huge leaning on the destination of the title. He is from a Rangers supporting background, and say what you like, but if there was a 50/50 in a game against Rangers, who do you think he would side with? If he is incompetent then that is not all he is. The problem in Scotland is that they get away with it. That is not paranoia.Look out for more major decisions from the MIB this season. This season especially.

    A Week in the Life:

    Monday:
Sir Minty : OK Watty, Fatty and Baldy Bain - we need a plan the press boys are running out of stories so we need to do something.

Watty: Right let's get that Greek Boy from Man City he is a right good player.
Fatty: Great: what happens next ?
Baldy Bain: we are a bit short but will have some cash spare if we can sell plug to Enic United.
Sir Minty: What - has he not gone yet ? Baldy - throw in a couple of Face Off DVD's and tell him that it really happened and with £33K a week it would be a good use of his new salary - that should do the trick.
Fatty: Ah love that film -see that bit….
    Watty: Shut it fatty

    Tuesday:
Sir Minty: OK lads what's happening.
Baldy : Plug has gone so let's move on the Greek God and also Darrin Queen has suggested that the tims are going to sign Barry Robson so if we hijack it then he can have 3 weeks of stories out of that one.
Fatty: Barry Robson - but he has rid hair.
Watty : Shut it Fatty - now go put on the kettle.
Watty: they don't call me the silver fox for nothing - The Greek boy will be here at 3 O'clock for a medical and Robson is in the bag - the only problem he needs to dye his hair and change his name as Barry is not happy with there being another Baz at the club.
Fatty: Ah dye my hair - it's great fun -it confused folk on the picture board.
Watty : Shut it Fatty - pass the milk.

    Later that day….

Sir Minty: How did the medical go Watty
    Fatty: He didnae turn up
    Watty: Shut it Fatty.
Baldy: Sir David - as CEO I need to tell you - he signed for someone else.
    Sir Minty: Who ?
    Fatty : The Champions Sellick
Watty : Shut it Fatty - now go and clean the showers.
Sir Minty : Never mind at least Robson is in the bag.

    Wednesday:

Sir Minty: morning lads - so when does Robson arrive ?
Watty: Errrr - working on it boss.
Fatty: Ah thought you said he was signing for The Champions ?
Watty: Shut it Fatty. Now go put the cones out.
Baldy : We definitely need plan C- are there not any cheap Europeans that we can make a splash over ?

    Later that day

    Watty : I've found one…. Yippee
    Fatty : Who ?
    Watty : I don't know his name I think it's Ciccone
    Fatty : Ciccone Young ?
    Watty : No
    Fatty: Madonna Ciccone ?
Watty : Ah dunno so shut it Fatty - no go and wash Barry's socks.
Baldy : I'll phone Darrin and tell him we are on the verge of an all dancing Italian striker how much will I say we are paying ?
Watty: Well we can't tell the truth so tell him £2M he will probably treble it anyway.

Even later…. Conference Call in Baldy Bains office:

Baldy : Hello can I speak to Madonna :
    Carraciolo :Wrong number.
    Baldy : No, No.
    Carraciolo: Who is this ?
Baldy: We want you to sign for us? I'll let you speak to Walter.
    Carraciolo: Walter Who ?
Watty: Fatty what is my other name - I 've forgotten nobody ever uses it.
Fatty: It's jist Walter - like them Brazilians who only have one name you know Riquelme is he no called "Roman"
    Watty: good shout Fatty.
    Carraciolo : OK - how much ?
    Baldy : Two million.
Carraciolo : Great come and see me.
Watty: Excellent - You will love playing with Barry.
Carraciolo: Bari - ah excellent - I love the weather.
Fatty: Is he aff his hied ?

    Thursday :

After a 3 hour flight on the corporate jet.

Watty : So Andrea - do you mind if I call you Billy ?
    Carraciolo: Sure Roman no worries.
Watty : Can you sign here ?
Carraciolo : Sure - Two million Euros to sign on I come to Bari - lovely sun , food no problem.
Fatty: Whit - It's no Bari we are fae Rangers ?
    Watty : Shut it Fatty.
Carraciolo : Who are de Rangers ?
Fatty: The greatest team in Govan.
Carraciolo : Ooohhh - well for two million euros I suppose….
Baldy: No son two million lire
    Carraciolo: Ciao Roman

    To be continued…

Any similarity to a real person is purely coincidental.

Not saying he is not, in fact the emphasis I had hoped to put in my comment is one of in-built bias and incompetence manifest in his performances.

What I believe we as a community should not do is to descend to their level!

I repeat we are witnessing the death throes of 'winalot' journalism which has kept the 'instituion' and SDM's ego in comfort for years, indeed, I believe there is worse to come before we see rid of it!

We shall overcome (without lowering our standards)

Glad to see Magic go along with Jarosik.Sentiment does not come into it, picking up a big wage while currently contributing zilch.

Barry Robson showed that despite being linked to Celtic for weeks, he turned in good performances,in fact his game seemned to go up a level.

The norm in these situations is a dip in the players form,i think his impressive form is an indicator of a strong character.

    Ah rate im highly.

Competition for places yae canny beat it.

are we entitled to assume that both JJ and magic were on substantial wages?

If so then we have covered a large portion of the wages of the incomers with the departures.I can`t see the wages of Robson and the two young bhoys amounting to even the wage of JJ.If correct then Samaras`wage may be offset by Magic`s departure leaving us only picking up the wage of Hinkel.

That taken with the fee for JJ,Magic and Teddy ( which should cover Robson`s fee)means we will have sustantially bettered our squad for a fee of £2M and an increase of around £25k per week in wages .If so absolutely cracking business, if not cracking business anyway .

    Paul,

Been travelling all week but managed to keep abreast of things thanks to you and the PDA.

Many congratulations for playing such a blinder with the news during this tranfer window.

Like many others I take it as 100% fact when you say we have signed someone (Hinkel, Robson) before the other media outlets get a sniff- never any doubts at all of your accuracy.

I think we should pin you down on a long term deal so that we dont lose you to the mainstream media! Ever had any offers?- go on you can tell us!

Also-have you ever considered floating/selling CQN, at this rate of growth, you could retire for life, a dot-com millionaire!!

What a hammering the Dark Side have taken this window, a complete shambles, if I was one of them (god forbid) I would be on the window ledge at the moment.

In contrast, I am really delighted with SSM's dealings and welcome all the new Bhoys, thanks and good luck also to Jiri & Magic.

Looking forward to Snyde's Winalot spin tonight! Surely even they cannot dress up Murray, Bain and Smith's dealings as anything other than an amateurish fiasco.
    My sides are still recovering.

A point to be made about Mike McCurry is that this is his last season in top flight refereeing. I do belive his open bias towards Rangers and against us is much more blatant than in previous years.

He obviously wants to be remembered fondly by his own folk. You can look forward to him being allocated a number of crucial games in the run up to the title and probably the cup final. I dont see him becoming any less biased, probably the opposite, as the season nears its conclusion.

Normally the SFA allows a departing ref to choose his last game.

Wonder where Mike McCurry's will be.

I have to disagree with you a little. I do agree that abuse has no place on this or any other site or in written corespondence to anyone.

I disagree that we should not wherever possible ensure that the authorities are well aware of this referee's incompetence or bias, take your pick.

I watched the Rangers Hearts games both the SPL match at Tynecastle and the CIS Cup Semi.

In both games Mr Mc Curry made decisions that were highly questionable. On every occasion his questionable decisions went in one team's favour e.g the assault by Alan Mc Gregor on Ellott of Hearts which should have seen him red-carded and did not result in any award though the player subsequently required treatment, his failure to book Charlie Adam for knocking the ball from the goalkeeper's hands without going into Mr Ferguson's goal the possible sending off for Cuellar in the first game etc..

It only became clear later why he had not booked Adam originally when he could not avoid doing so at a later stage for a two footed lunge on Neilsen. The booking meant Adam being suspended for the Final. There were many other decisions that might be questoned but I have stuck to those on which there can be no doubt. The man is either incompetent or biased and the authorities need to know it.

BBC are saying Magic was out of contract in the summer?

If this is true PL has worked miracles... how on earth did we get half a Mil for him?

It just shows you how much the the stupid and disrespectful bid of £400,000 for Riordan was considering the two players' respective ages.

I agree wholeheartedly that he is biased / incompetent, however I believe that by raising awareness in the corridors of power is not necessary effetive, certainly withn the Scottish set up (seeds falling on stony ground etc).

Over the past few days and weeks I am sure the 'green shoots' are springing (re Telegraph article on the Rangers boys choir) like the civil right movement in the 1960 US and the anti-apartheid movement, very soon the 'winalots' will be shown up in the wider journalistic community for the fawning sycophants they truly are and will then be subject to ridicule form their peers (GS among them) far more cutting than anything which can be posted on this venerable site.

The Kings and Queens(you know who you are)of the 'winalot' persuasion will soon be shown up for what they are on a wider scale.

Th empire is crumbling (witness the latest MIH figures) believe me there will be no greater smile in the land than mine when the walls of Jericho come tumbling down.

Th point I am at last coming to is that the McCurry's of this world are merely a sideshow for us to be distracted by, foaming at the mouth and reporting the obvious will curry no favour (pun intended) with the powers or the scribes!

Whilst we concern ourseleves with the monkeys, the organ grinders are happy but, not to use a cliche to many, the worm is turning ........our day will come.

Keevins never fails to make my blood boil. The comment about Artur and 'the holy goalie' is a case in point.

If Artur is happy to be called it and it's obviously a direct reference to him alone then what right has Keevins to question it...?

If he's struggling to reply to a question he'd be best served to keep his gob shut. Impossible mission springs to mind.

Has he watched the last two Celtic matches? His Donati comments almost made me choke on my lemon sole!!

    malone 19,

I'm dismayed by the fact that certain fans have a problem with Donati. Is a player not allowed to lose form? Aren't they allowed time to adjust to a new country and style of football?

Donati is our best passer of a football, other than naka, and that is clearly evident. His workrate has improved greatly over the last two matches, especially when we are without the ball. I have 2 people sit behind me who complain about Donati's contribution from start to finish and yet he's easily outperformed, in the last two matches, a player that has played his whole career in the SPL.

I hope his upturn in form continues from now until the end of the season and I'd be disappointed in WGS if he dropped Massimo for Barry Robson just when it looks like the Italian is starting to find his feet.

Well looks like a good bit of business was done during this window. I notice there have been some complaints re the left back and centre half position, as far as the former is concerned we do have Willo on his way back, Bazz can also fill in there and both JPDD, who it seems may be ready by next month, and Andy Hinkel can also play this position. As Paul stated but for injury the Madrid 1 may have arrived and this may be the reason we still have Big Bob who it looks as if is playing well over in Africa, let’s hope he stays free of injury.

The squad for me looks very strong now and with the youthfulness there it all augers well for the future, after we retain the title this year I can see us going on a run that could emulate our own NIAR.

This past year in the market has pleased me no end as we have shown we are definitely soaring away fae the monkees as we did during the Big Mhan’s reign. However, as we all know it wasn’t always this way.

In the summer of 1962 the St. Mirren left half, one of the brightest talents in the Scottish game, was put up for sale.

The season before we had lost our own cultured left half and captain when he retired and returned tae the “Black North”. This was a position we were struggling to fill and although John Clark would become our sweeper 5 years later he evidently was not ready for it at the time.

Our team announced over the tannoy at the time was Haffey, Mackay and Kennedy, Crerand, McNeill and ???????????.

All fine players who were either internationalist or would be, so the opportunity to sign a sophisticated left half was a dream for the Tims.

Three teams bid for “Dandy” as he was called, Us, Them and Sheffield Wednesday, unusually all three offered the same amount, £27,500a Scottish record at that time, which was accepted by the Buddies and it was now down to the player.

Dandy opted for the darnel, now interestingly although they had just clinched the Scottish Cup they were NOT at that time the best side in the country as Dundee were champions and the Jambos had won the League Cup.

Also they already had two left halfs on their books including Slim Jim and Billy Stevenson, the latter having emigrated to Australia due to losing his place to the Fifer before returning in October ’62 to sign for Bill Shankly’s Liverpool, as the huns still held his registration they received a transfer fee of around £20,000, this indicates the talent already there in that position.

So here were we left still struggling for a player for this position and although we did sign former Falkirk and Airdrie player Billy Price, he was only a stop gap as was moving Jim Kennedy forward after the emergence of Tommy Gemmell until the Hoover was ready.

As it was big Dandy was played at inside left alongside Jim Forrest where they formed a prolific partnership, gaining 2 League, 2 League cup and 4 Scottish cup medals, however, his eyepox career came to an end shortly after the infamous Scottish Cup defeat to Berwick where both he and his striking partner were deemed entirely to blame, and both were dropped and transferred within weeks.

    It should
