Donato Paul? I was though thinking it looked like Artur had been eating a fair few of them lately
-
Great goal at the death thanks to the quality of the players we have. That's what millions buy you, even at our end of the market.
-
I think the players would agree with you, Paul. They were celebrating at the end as if they had won the Cup. They are obviously giving their all. They WANT it. Great to see.
-
Oh, I feel that that pass from Donati at the death went a long way to making up for his mistake which led to their goal and his poor performance in the Nou Camp. The Double is still on.

Bournesouprecipe, thanks for your kind words on the previous article.

Lee Miller (Celtic Fan)
Wow! Gotsta agree with TTTT. That was indeed a redtop rag writer moment.
The aforementioned Lee being a native of ML2 was a boyhood bezzy mate of my next door neighbour (and Celtic mad) mate's bhoy.
I often seen said Master Miller resplendent in Satan's colours kicking a baw aboot my hoop clad neighour's back green.
Anyway, no harm to you. One journalistic error in all the time you have been managing wat can only be described as the pinnacle of Celtic Minded fan websites is no disgrace.

Starryhope, is that right? I have been seriously misinformed in that case; my apologies.
See the recon that comes out of Wishaw! Hopeless.

All through Celtic's history going back over more than a century we have a trait of scoring at the death, when a game is in the balance.
This is not luck but part of our DNA.
Advantage, Celtic.

How coincidental that I watched Celtic come back from the dead and then went to mass to hear the Gospel tell of Lazarus being summoned from the tomb.
Nice to see Jimmy Calderwood looking like he was being physically sick as his prize candy was grabbed from his hands just as he was about to unwrap it.

Paul67,
Yes that is a fact. The former Hertz eh? and Bristol City frontman often arrived at my mate's house over the back fence wearing the Orcs' favourite replica top. It was interesting to watch a celtic v Huns kickabout taking place nextdoor.
When the y9oun master Miller was doing well at Hertz eh? I mentioned that I thought he'd do a job for us but apparently his allegiance to the dark side would have prevented this. I understand that there was a dalliance with Edmiston Drive but the offer from Bristol was MUCH more attractive.

Apologies if anyone has posted on this already. I was on a Hibs website to try to find out the score - still don't know but I know Hibs are out. They were saying that Novo almost halved a Hibs player in two and that Wattie tried to head butt Pataleinen (?) and was sent to the stand as a result. Can anyone confirm the thuggish behaviour of the Rankers manager?
Hail! Hail!

Great score in Mallorca at the moment.
Real Mallorca 7-1 Recreativo de Huelva.
About five minutes left.

Gordon Strachan is a lucky manager. Boruc has kept Celtic in the cup. Big Jan was poor. He won very few headers and failed to link the play. I cannot comprehend how he is the No. 1 pick.
I am not a fan of Sno, but he was the best man in the team. I could not believe he was taken off and replaced by Donati, who was crap again despite his role in the equaliser. Hartley was quietly effective. Naka and Aiden disappointed.
The defence was crying out for Bobo. Caldwell and McManus lack authority. Hinkel seems to be improving with each performance and Naylor was not missed.
I always try to be positive but I cannot see this Celtic team delivering 3 in a row.

We are a difficult team to beat, even when things don't go our way.
Methinks the experince of this game will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season. This last min. goal must have sickened all others. We should swipe the Dons away when we get them at CP.
Well done Celtic, I feel really proud to support this team.

I thought we were unlucky today.
One of those efforts that hit the post goes in and we would catch Aberdeen on the break all day.
Surely GS must now leave Naka out of the away games.
For all his talent he rarely performs away except very late on or at setpieces.
We can't afford passengers in any of the upcoming games no matter how talanted.
Imagine today was a league game with no second chance!
Nice to see Sno do OK.

Am I alone in thinking young Evander was a standout today?
Composed, kept possession, found good passes.
He done himself no harm today. Well played that 19 year old - you have come through a difficult period.

I was delighted with the performance of young Sno today. He was cool, composed and authoritative. I was surprised to see him subbed. I think he needs a run in the team so he can develop further. Let's not forget that he is only 20 years old. We were not incisive enough up front. I think Gordon made the right substitution with Samaras for Skippy who was making little impact. Samaras looks like a good player. He showed his cool head with the pass to Big Jan for the equaliser. Others would have tried to grab the glory.
Can anyone tell me
The Rankers v Hibs score?
Did Nove get sent off?
What are the media comments about the elder statesman of Scottish football?

I can't help feeling we're going to get the double. Altough the Fod got a result today, they are feeling the pressure. We've been under must-win situations for quite a while now, and know how to cope under these circumstances a lot better, hence our last minute goal.
Our team is still not settled partly 'cause we've options, but I think we're getting into our stride, and will beat the Huns when we face them. Mon the Hoops.

Sno was good today - but the midfield has no shape. Or maybe it does - something like a squiggle.

Hi lads,
Was just wondering if you'd like to sponsor a fellow Tim (i.e. me) and my 2 other team mates who are going on a banger rally from Calais to Casablanca starting 3rd April.
We're raising money for Cancer Research, we'll be driving 2500 miles (hopefully), actually double that as we'll be coming all the way back to Stirling as well, and the only stipulation is that it has to be done in a car worth no more than £100. So it's a bituva challenge!
We've already had an article about us on the BBC website - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/7274871.stm. And we have a website - www.craggyislanders.com which gives more details about the event, our team and how to sponsor us. You can even have a logo put on the car.
We've already had donations from my own supporters club - the Roy Milne CSC club in Alloa, as well as the Kerrydale Street Celtic forum. Any donations would be very much appreciated.
Hail hail!

A ned and a thug.

-
SadiesBhoy
Nacho Novo was sent off for a high 2 footed challenge. Mixu Paatelinen was furious and ran out of the dug-out to get the ned sent off. (which the ref was going to do). W Smith was furious with Mixu’s intentions, and flew at him. There was a tete a tete until W Smith was booked was sent away. He then went back to confront Mixu again before being escorted away. I think.
I didn’t hear him being criticized by his actions. Interesting to hear what the Duffer makes of it. :-)

Sadiesboy,
At the press conference Loyal Cardigan said the Novo decision was correct, but it was the Hibs bench trying to get his players booked and sent off all day that made him lose his dignity.
Pots, kettles anyone?
This means the weasel is out for the LCF next week. Adam also suspended, Cousin injured, Darcheville a doubt- they won't need to look far for excuses.

......meant to add the cardie was also sent to the stand.

Is it all starting to go bear shaped eh pear shaped for Dignity FC? Are they starting to feel the pressure? Are injuries and suspension starting to bite? Remember our situation at the turn of the year? How will they cope with the plethora of away games that they will have to face in a few weeks time? It's one thing winning when you play game after game at Ipox and Celtic have been playing two more away games all season. Let's see what happens when the tables are turned.
Back to us. Someone said we lack leadership on the park. I wholeheartedly agree. I always thought that Hartley led Hearts but he doesn't seem to lead us. Neither does McManus. We need someone to step up to the plate just like Neil Lennon did. Someone who is in the opposition's face and bosses our own players. I don't think that person is currently at Celtic Park but we need to find him. Does anyone have any ideas. I had high hopes that Liam Miller would have been such a player but what a disappointment he turned out to be.
I think we should go back for Petrov. England isn't turning out what he hoped it would be for him. I felt we made a mistake in not making him Captain and building the team around him.29 March is fast approaching and no sign of Bobo Balde back in the team. Can anyone tell me if he is still injured? If not, I'll repeat the appeal to Gordon that I made about 6 weeks before we played TFOD at Ipox earlier in the season - put him back in the team now. I predicted then that Cousin would bully us and he did. He may miss the game but Darcheville could play and we need Bobo to deal with him too.
Does anyone agree?
-
Han Solo, HH Bhoy and Goldstar 10
Thank you for giving me confirmation of events at Ipox.
Please excuse my last rambling post. Still euphoric about the last minute goal today!
Hail! Hail!

SadiesBhoy,
What you mean regarding Bobo is fight with muscle against brawn. I wish I could agree.
I was watching a few old videos with Bobo, (not with Bobo himself), and I still get a fright at some of the things he got up to. I still feel we’ll be strong enough to take on the Fod, I’m only concerned how the mib performs. They always seem to influence the game.
HHBhoy
-
Real Mallorca held on for the 7-1 win. Always nice to see that scoreline.
-
That certainly looks like a tackle that even a Rangers player would get sent off for.
Is the replay the 18th or 19 does anyone know?
-
HH Bhoy
I bet if you had been watching the videos with Bobo himself you would have told him you wanted him in the team :-)
I have my own reservations about Bobo but like many I feel he is still the best defender at Celtic Park. Cousin might have done what he did to McManus at Ipox but he wouldn't have come back on to the Park and Tried to do the same to Bobo as he did to O'Dea after Super(Fat) Swally shared a wee laugh with him and gave him the thumbs up. Bobo would have destroyed him.
-
Who was the MIB who dared to send "Wattie" to the stand? First Division beckons methinks!
Sadiesbhoy - my team against TFOD at CP would be different, but here's my opinion on the lineup for the trip to Mordor :-
Boruc
Hinkel McManus Balde Naylor
Hartley Brown Sno Robson
McGeady
Samaras
(4-4-1-1)
Bobo would need a couple of games under his belt first.
TTTT
-
TTTT
Wholeheartedly agree with that team. They wouldn't be bullied by anyone. I would still play Bobo at CP.
Hail! Hail!
-
SadiesBhoy- yes I think the pressure is beginning to tell down Ibrox way.
Regarding leadership , I think this is where Scott Brown needs to step in, rather than go squaring up to anyone within shouting distance he ahould be channeling his agression to getting the most out of his colleagues, Mick and Artur should be doing likewise, Artur of course should not be picking fights with Mick/Naylor etc, but use positive aggression.
PH has always appeared starstruck since he came to CP, what happened to the snarling player he was at Hearts (remember him booting Ross Wallace up the **** at the New Year game). I somehow don't see him doing this now.
Petrov, like Maloney- a busted flush, we should move on. Bobo- imposing and would not discount using him if the need arose.
-
TTTT,
Bobo Balde at centre half? A man after my own football heart:)
-
SadieBhoy,
I understand all too well what you mean, and I agree with your sentiment. I don’t see this thuggish behaviour happening twice. I feel wee Gordan has seen what happened at that game a few times since, and will impress how to react or challenge such eventual hammer-throwing footballing tacticts.
In the event of that happening we have recently seen how oor Evander is no shrinking violet. Robbie Robson may well also feature. And Scot Broon can also mix it. Nae Sweat.

Thank you Jan for saving me from the birthday from Hell!
I didn't see all of the game seeing only the last 20 mins and the first 20, and from what I hear then I missed our best periods of the match. If you hit the post 4 times in a match you also think we must have played not too badly.
The periods I saw we were all over the place. I was raging with Donati as his first contribution was to give the ball away in the centre of midfield which then they scored from the move. He redeemed himself at the goal though as he kept a cool head to pass to Samaras, who had taken up a very clever position. The traditional Scottish way would be to get right in the middle but the big man did well to stay wide.
On Samaras, he realy must start on Wednesday night. His movement and pace offer us something the other two don't. I thought we looked better when he was on today.
Their goal was a poor one to lose. big Mick takes longer to turn than the Titanic and teams know this. Caldwell should have covered earlier imo but we know where we are at the back. We are poor and we need major surgery this summer. Hinkel for me had his best game since he joined from what I saw.
The only downside is another £60-70 pounds from the bananas family fund, but I would have paid 10 times that for the chance in the 89th minute!
Phew!
-
Sadiesbhoy,
I wanted Petrov to be made captain before he left. I wouldn't mind him being brought back (and Maloney too, for that matter). MacManus should never have been made captain, in my opinion. I don't think he can motivate others. (I also have serious reservations about his pLAce in the team.)
Bobo should be brought back for the next match against EU's team, which means that he should get some match practice pronto. Can't, however, see it, although I do think we will be bullied again.
I would go with TTT's team. I think we would win too.

I had a good laugh at your post!
I turned to my wife at the final whistle and pointed out the same coincidence having been to 10am mass this morning!
-
Sadiesbhoy & Goldstar :- I can't comment on events at todays game as I wasn't at it but I disagree with you that we are somehow starting to feel the pressure or that it's going pear shaped. We are in the final of the league cup, through to the next round in the Scottish cup, in with a good chance of progressing in the UEFA cup, four points clear at the top of the league and on a 20 game unbeaten run. I'd say if anything the pressure is on Celtic at the moment.
-
U2 - as the barman said to the set of jump leads, "don't you go starting anything in here!"
If you remember, I said that you were right about playing Bobo against TFOD, but in the CL?! Shudder!
Goldstar - would take Shaun back for the right price, but not Stan. We need players to deliver when we need it, not when they feel like it.
Scott Brown? Hmmm...do you remember the guy who scored at CP for Hibs last season and stood facing our fans with hands on hips. Total attitude, gallus as we would have said in the past.
Whatever happened to him?
The armband should never have gone to Mick. He got the captaincy of our club far too easily and too early, but he's got it and we need to live with it for now. JH captained Hertz and Barry Robson captained Utd and ICT(?), so we should have enough leaders out there on the park when we play at Mordor.
Problem is, we don't have anyone currently as good as our fellow season ticket holder, Finbar Ferguson!

Reeled you in Edward!
You might be in all of those positions at the moment but you didn't make last 16 of the Big One and you have enjoyed all sorts of fixtures advantages over us throughout the season. I still feel the advantage will switch to us in the run in. Our own recent domestic unbeaten record is quite impressive too. Didn't Barca turn your team over too?
-
Edward,
Make no mistake- there is pressure on us, one slip in the league (like today's scoreline) and we face a tough struggle, however, the touchline antics at Ibrox today (which, I also have not seen) suggest to me the pressure is mounting down your way.... Cousin, Novo, Darchville all suspended/injured, a few hefty knocks were taken by BF on Thursday- if you lose him, well?
Time will tell but if it is 2003 in reverse then I will empathise how you will feel in May (though I will stop short at sympathy) :-)
TTTT- yes, I remember that, we need this type of gallusness from Brown (and Hartley if he still has it).
5-1 to Mogga's team now.
-
Sadiesbhoy :- And I took it hook line and sinker :-)
You are correct in that we didn't reach the last 16 in the C.L but hopefully further progresion in the UEFA will make up for that. You are also correct that Barca beat us as well which is why I never mentioned them :-)
Celtic are on a pretty decent run at the moment and getting the points when they matter, there are three games between us to come. Despite all this though I still reckon the pressure is more on your own team. Part of this may be due to relative expectations at the start of the season where we were recovering from two very poor league seasons but it's still there.
-
-
Mowbray's team going to Wembley for a semi final. Mogga's not cracked a light. The Baggies are boing boing'ing

Edward
I think you are right mate, the pressure is all on Celtic. One slip and we are in big trouble but I have been very impressed with our ability to keep winning under this pressure. For Rangers to be on a run like they have and for us to be still on their coat-tails must be a worry.
In 1986 I'm sure I read that Hearts went 31 games unbeaten in all competitions, only to lose their last 2 games that season. I don't need to say who ended up celebrating at the end of that year. Another interesting point on the similarities of that season and this one is that not many of the Hearts team that year had experienced winning a league, just as only 3 of the entire Rangers squad that I can think of have experienced winning the top league in Scotland (Charlie Adam won the Div 1 with St Mirren).
Before Rangers next kick a ball in the SPL we could well be 5 points clear, albeit you would have 3 games in hand. It will be interesting to see how Rangers can cope with that, particularly as the game v Hibs will likely be a tasty one after todays events.
-
Edward
I have to admit that my Dr. Evil laughs at the plight of the Teddy Bears at the start of the season have been reduced to a teeter - I have been impressed by what the cardigan has achieved and at some of the signings he has made - Cuellar and Cousin have done very well for him.
However, we are now at the business end of the season and it cannot be dismissed Wattie is bummed up by the Scottish media to be a guy who has seen it all before, a guy who is in control. He wasn't today. I've been watching football for a long time, I've seen Celtic win Leagues that we should have lost and lost leagues that we should have won. Walter lost it big time today - the pressure is beginning to tell.
It's all right being in front when the race is being run but it's totally different from when you see the finishing tape approaching and the doubts - and fatigue (injuries, suspensions, lack of experience) start to take effect.
-
Goldstar10 :- Out of the problems you mention the one that worries me in Barry Ferguson getting injured, right now he is carrying the team and even on his off days his constant running and harrying helps.
Porridge&Bannannas :- It could well come down to bottle, I agree we don't have many who have been in this position before however this could be matched as Celtic don't have many who have been in a tight title race before. It could well come down to bottle ratrher than any skill or ability, in that case I wouldn't like to call between them.
-
Novo was only "over-excited" according to his manager. That's all right then.
If Martin Taylor us being banned for 3 matches, Novo should get at least 5. Wonder if Sepp Blatter will get involved?
BTW, only 33,000 attendance at Ibrox today.

pfayr,
With reference to Eoghan Harris and the Sunday Independent, let's just say there's a lot of 'previous'. The paper itself is a celebrity- worshipping rag which advocates rejoining the commonwealth and generally acting as the lickspittle to the british empire, or what remains of it. (just think of Gerry Mc Nee writing about politics and you'll see where i'm coming from. The paper itself has published a number of bitter anti-Celtic articles, one of which provoked a written response from Peter Lawwell himself, if I remember correctly.

Why oh Why , after all this time, do we not have a natural left back to compete with Lee Naylor for the fullback position?
We are exposed in the air at the back.Bobo should be playing.
Finally we rely on JVOH to pick up his man at set pieces and he consistantly loses either his man or the flight of the ball.
Get it sorted.
We are supping at the last chance saloon.
We deserved to win today ,but we are very fortunate to still be in the cup.

Overall Celtic were deserving of the draw today, but during the last 15 minutes Aberdeen looked the more likely winners. We were only 30 seconds away from a possible Rangers treble.
Even the manager’s strongest supporters must be becoming increasingly frustrated with his team selections. It would be awful to lose the league through one man’s conceit.
What was the logic in subbing your best player when the game is still there to be won………and replacing him with Donati?

A frustrating match to watch today. We played reasonably well and created enough chances to have won at a canter. However a combination of bad luck and poor finishing (Naka) kept them in it.
I really think we have a midfield problem. Sno did well today, but it seems to me that the manager has no real faith in any of his central midfielders. It appears he does not know what his best pairing is, which is worrying considering the number of must-win games coming up.
Echoing earlier posters, I'd also give Samaras a start. Skippy looks tired, he could do with a rest.
Re: The Golden Cardingan... I do hope this is a sign that the pressure is beginning to tell on them. I also await the press condemnation of his antics...

didn't think we played that bad today, how many times can the woodwork save the opposition?

Panda Hands,
I think in some ways it's just 'Lazy Journalism', albeit on a much less cynical scale than in Scotland. The Irish media, even the likes of Tom Humphries, have not moved on from the "ooh-ahh" days. As Scottish football isn't really covered in Ireland, the stereotype is unfortunately set to prevail.
On a cheerier note, can I expect to hear Peter Martin discuss wattie's banishment on the phone-in. It reminded me of St Patrick and the snakes, for the month that's in it!!!

I also listened to BBC on the way home to the Hun game .What i gleaned is that S Davis is the best young midfielder in UK and Cuellar is the best CB in the world .
Also doulble standards were being exhibited in booking players ...guess in whose favour?
Lastly, El Cardo must be in bother chasing Mixu in the Hibbee tech area and confronting him ......WGS would have been banned for an eternity for this type of behaviour .
Pressure at Ipox...it`s there for all to see ...a couple of more injuries and it will really bite .
We must win our next couple of games to turn the screw .

‘GG, never thought of the Lazarus link, I’ll maybe use that.
Passandmove, “What was the logic in subbing your best player when the game is still there to be won………and replacing him with Donati?”
Perhaps because Donati would find space deep inside injury time to create a goal?
Panda Hands, comment deleted, language violation.
Fabrizio, I like the St Patrick/snakes/Smith line, I might borrow that one too.

Evander Sno is amazingly quick in the opposition's last third when you're looking for a midfielder to hit their box.
I noticed that last season. And today he got on the end of a move he had started only to misconnect. It would have been some goal.
The bhoy can move.
I also think you're a bit stingy with regard to Hinkel. He made two vital interventions when Aberdeen enjoyed their period of pressure, one on the line when he didn't just block, but also, crucially, reacted brilliantly to clear, and one when he got his head to a deep cross to our back stick.
Well played that bhoy too, I say.
-
No problem Paul, it would be a pleasure. Your blog is a magnificent creation, and regardless of whether we agree with each other we're all the one.
A final point re Ireland's prosperity is that whilst it hasn't done anything for the standing of Celtic in prosperous Ireland, it has put an end, by and large, to the era of involuntary emigration. As the great Shane Mc Gowan put it so eloquently; "Where 'ere we go we celebrate, the land that makes us refugees. With fear of priests with empty plates, of guilt, and weeping effigies". Always poignant around this time of year.

Feel like a naughty schoolboy!
No repeat in future.
Can you answer my question about replay??

both games can`t be played in Glasgow on the same day
As the Huns play the league Cup final on Sunday i would assume we`ll be asked to play on Tuesday
we play on sat at 1230 against Murderwell

Jon Dahl Tomasson comes off the bench to end, perhaps, Barcelona's league hopes.
Five to go, 1-2.

Did anyone notice that Werder Bremen played Stuttgart away yesterday something like 36 hours after playing at Mordor. They lost 6-3 and looked well tired by the end of a great game. I think, however, that they will be well rested before they meet the pride of Govan.
Still another couple of games for the Teddies should help the cause along.

My dear,dear,dear friend... Celtic_First. @21.21.
Firstly...
I shall go over the Methodology( Huh?...ed)( It'sa woid,alright!...look it up,pal)
behind my Rating System( copyrighted, in all countries. 2007)
Every player..... STARTS, with a Ten..as opposed to STRIVING, for a 10!
Points are ADDED and DEDUCTED from the STARTING NUMBER.
What we are looking for.... PRIMARILY!!!!!!! ...is that elusive but necessary performance.....
CONSISTENCY of EXCELLENCE!
INCONSISTENCY?
IT IS A NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
Capice?
If a player ends his performance...
After a CONSISTENTLY EXCELLENT PERFOMANCE...
He receives a 10..
Which is a Pass...
For that is the ONLY type of Performance that we desire. It is why we hired him, in the FOIST PLACE!
In other woids... a PASS, is what one might call ... a PASSABLE PERFORMANCE...and should be a job well done.
Unfortunately, Mr. Sno.... makes too many errors... slow of thought, clumsy and dangerous( for us,for us) TACKLES.... ponderous of movement...etc.etc.
Because of these and other deficiencies ,he LOSES Points... left, right and center!
I hope that I have helped you... and others... to understand my Ratings of Points..
AWARDING and DEDUCTING SYSTEM.
The woid is
CONSISTENCY OF EXCELLENCE!
Patchy Performances... will not be rewarded..
CONSISTENT CONSISTENCY OF EXCELLENCE,is the Key.
Kojo.
yer pal...who likes the way ye think.

HansSolo :- Fair enough, a crowd who would chant "Bobos gonnae get ye" are probably far to much of purists to want a player to scrap and fight for every ball. Except all the posters on here who lament the lack of such a player and frequently name players from the past who would do just that.
Football is a contact sport and a game of strength as well as skill.
-
nacho ned has just come on bbc2 lowlights
-
Kojo
I knew that was the basis for your marks, having followed your explanations on these hallowed pages before.
My only intention was to put in a wee word for Hinkel and Sno. I like both and I'm going to pitch in with an adjective that I think applies to both and the importance of which I think you will appreciate.
Sno and Hinkel, as footballers, are intelligent.
I like that.
Just heard Camacho has resigned as manager of Benfica. We did not help his cause. Good.
I will never forget Jock Stein commenting after a Scotland defeat in Spain during World Cup qualifying for 1986: "Something needs to be done. Jim Leighton has had so many oranges thrown at him he could open a fruit-stall at the Barras, and as for that Camacho (a defender in the Spanish team that night) …".
The big man just shook his head.
-
nacho ned has just gone off bbc2 again

Edward Ursus-
Football will always be a contact sport-
no problem there-
Martin O'Neills team was as physical as any.
However-
big difference between contact, physical play and outright cheating which has been on show from the Ibrox WWF Brigade[including McCurry] this season.
-
No probs, Panda Hands, no info in the date.
Kojo, yes, agree on many points, apart from…
McManus, the dreadful pass from his own 18 yard line cost him a few more marks. He was lucky Ronaldinho was not lurking, Thierry Henry was not even closing him down.
I would send him out to practice with his right foot this week, Naka too. Both made dreadful mistakes trying to use their left when their right was the correct choice.
Ulster-celt, what did I tell you about that Rijkaard? :-)

My dear,dear,dear,dear, Friend... Vert Wolf...
Where have you been...
You have been missed....
And.....not only missed missed..but...
SADLY, MISSED!...
Good to see you are still with the program.
I am sincere in what I have just said concerning my ratings...
Incomprehensible... to some...no doubt... but, if one takes the time to be scrupulously fair in one's judgment.
One most see more than a nana iota of sense, in them.
The trouble is that most fans...of CELTIC, especially.
Are blinded to the truth, by their all consuming loyalty.
Loyalty is good..... BLIND Loyalty?
Na!
I have made a very nice living... by being first and foremost...
A fully Practising Pragmatist!
Even though, at times... I have erred in that respect, and in more than enough times...to realise ...
That Practising Pragmatism, is a very demanding Practice.
But, I shall continue to Practice it, until eventually, my slippage will be reduced to minimal.

Just watching Sportscene
el cardo behaviour is as bad as i have ever seen from a manager
scene
Novo assaults hibbee player
Mixu Pat is incensed , rightly so , but doesn`t leave his tech area
el cardo races from his own tech area into hibs area starts balling at hibs bench, pushing the 4th official out the way and squares up to Mixu .........therafter has to be restrained
disgraceful inflammatory stuff
he should have been charged with a BOP
we can`t allow this to be washed over
given the treatment of WGS, by the beeks of late, we must insist that comparative justice is done
on our game
both our CB`s are crap and O`Dea is being killed slowly at LB
thanks JVOH on another day you were worth a hattrick
SMcD...could do with some time out , he was poor and looked jaded , bench for him on wed imo

Paul67,
Any other keeper than Boruc, say Douglas, Hedman, Gould, Kharine etc..and we would be in deep stuff.
It's a one man defence we got. McManus to practice with his right foot?? Never mind that he needs jettonised at the end of the season. Gordon's walking a tightrope with this defence. Enough is enough. Time for action. Big games coming up and the correct decisions must be made for this area.

Gordon, thanks for that walk down memory lane. A few before my time, but didn’t we know how to do it in the 1980s?

Trailers or previews are film advertisements for films that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema, on whose screen they are shown. The term "trailer" comes from their having originally been shown at the end of a film programme.[1] That practice did not last long, because patrons tended to leave the theater after the films ended, but the name has stuck. Trailers are now shown before the film (or the A movie in a double feature program) begins.

WGS
Hypothetical situations are...well...hypothetical.
Any other goalkeeper but Andy Goram....
Matbe we're just not used to the goalie being the star man in defence. He's part of the team. Fine with me for as long and longer as it lasts.
Caldwell and McManus? Not perfect, but for Celtic centre backs not bad. As I suggested during the week, they would have kept Real Madrid in the CL.
Caldwell or Valgaeren? McManus or Mjallby?
If we can get a Puyol or a Gough to sign for us, fine. Until then, I think the two we've got are doing a good job, and helping to keep Artur's hand in. Nothing wrong with that. Teammates.
PS. Finally got the home connection set up. Nae haudin' me back now!

Kojo
This is a genuine question as I do get confused by your multiple personae.
Are you the one that knows about fitba or are you the one who has to ask the knowledgeable cousins about the soccer skills element?
pfayr
I thought I was the only one who saw that. Wattie did push the 4th official out of the way to get to Mixu. Thankfully, the Finn chose to exercise self control or he'd be getting sued by Help The Aged.
Interesting that BBC on showing the replay cut the scene just at the point where Wattie pushed the official. I guess the Celtic minded staff at the BBC don't work in Film Editing. My recollection is that WGS's interaction with the Pittodrie steward was shown in complete detail with commentary, lip reading and graphics added.
Double standards stink.
-
Paul,
Go on!Go on..Go on..Ah you will, you will, you will,.....
Gordon,
I know I'm being lazy, but is there any chance you could compile Celtic goals scored in the last 5/10 minutes of this season?
Does anybody else have 'the perfect storm' rattling their windows tonight......or is it...just my house?
-
Chennaisebird,
McManus and Caldwell could not lace Valgaeren and Mjallby's boots.
Remeber Joos first season?? We all though we had the new Jaap Stam.
Awesome until he go that bad injury. Was not really the same after.
Mjallby. One player who would run through a brick wall for you. He was a rock. Could tackle, win the ball in the air and bully opponenets. Had Michel Owen and Crespo to name a few in his back pocket.
He was Big Scandinavain Rainforest.

Great to stay in the cup today, was fearing the worst, but it was never in doubt beejees.
Just seen Sportscene just to witness the dignity, the tactical genius manhandled the 4th official while he was going bannanas.
Totally out of order, The Hibs bench were right to be complaining, unbelievable that anyone could complain about their actions.
At was as if 'How dare you talk to our referee in our stadium' he was even shocked to be sent upstairs, he loves 'goin up stairs'.
I dont even want to know the punishment, it will be wrong.
Just got back from Barcelona yesterday, loved it, counting the days til I go back.
Thanks to the advice of fhellow posters this time last week, no robbery witnessed. Was in the Ramblas a very short time, too many other good places to tapas.
My Barcelona Movie.
PART 1
PART 2
Some cringeworthy moments but some great sights.
-
Who drove a tractor down the middle of the Ipox pitch and who covered the mess in green sand? Did you see the state of it? A complete shambolic disgrace! A pure piggery of a potato patch (spot the alliteration there?). Celtic should play down the wings come the 29th. Why is Nacho not in jail tonight. A worse challenge than the one that did for Eduardo. He was lucky he did not make the same contact on the Hibs player's leg.
Why did the BBC cut the footage in the replay of the Wattie incident just as Wattie was closing in on the Hibs bench. Did his mammy never tell him that it's bad manners to speak when you have your mouth full of chewing gum - it was quite offputting having to watch him.
Critics of Big Jan's missed chances should remember that he was on the spot to miss them. That's what they used to say about SuperSwally. Big Jan was very unlucky today. I think that he and Samaras should be given a try out together while Skippy is given a rest. He has been brilliant for us this season.
-
Paul
I know it's an age thing.
The eighties were fine. We never had to do it in the sixties of course because, well, we were better managed and directed then. Better quality of everything all round really. Except....nah, not even that.
Nothing beats today. Except maybe Milan. And Shaktar. What do you mean that wasn't the Scottish Cup? Don't tell them.
But isn't it great to see that composure under pressure? Twice from Massimo.
I love this team. It makes that hell of hope you put yourself through for the final five minutes worth ten of every single second. I particularly like the way players bounce back and show their commitment to the cause. I wonder where they get that from?
And what about Evander's first half today? Star man, and still a boy.
We live in blessed times, and Gordon is such a lucky wee Tim to be here now.
Nearly as lucky as me.

how pityful was the site of the cardigan trying to redeem himself
on the bbc2 match highlights ,it was so cringeworthley embarrasing watching him ,trying to squirm out of knowing that he had just made himself look like a deranged maniac on national tv ,that one almost felt sorry for the old codger(aye thatl be right)
his well maintained and media spin of good old walter has been shown up for what it was A SHAM
smiths reaction today was like a street thug, the mask of dignity has fallen ,he has been shown up for what he really is a bitter and twisted man
-
This talk of Mjallby and Petrov. That John Barnes could pick a player.
Something surreal about Jimmy Calderwood's comment to Chick Young post-match 'it was a great game for the neutral - if there are neutrals these days, Chick'.
Kettle, it's Pot here.
Paul Hartley. On Sportscene, again with Chick: 'who's the best keeper you've played with, bearing in mind Craig Gordon'. Paul: 'Artur, by far'. Embdy else see PH's wee 'gesture' to the Aberdeen support?
-
Kojo
I thought I was softening the accusation that you are all the same when I used the word personae as that leaves room to believe that each are characters in their own right.
Anyway, the point is that one of the personae admitted in the past that they knew little about football and depended greatly on the input of "the cousins" to explain points to him/her.
Which coterie personae was that?
BTW plenty of good players were much slower than Evander. Naka, King Kenny, Bobby Murdoch et al (no Super Al- he was a rat up a drainpipe- never saw him play fitba, mind)
-
lou
Taking it a bit far there. We've all seen the sweary interview with Chick, we all know what Wattie's like. Same as the rest of us, gets carried away at times. And sometimes gets caught out.
Never mind how the establishment reacts. Why do so many of us give Gordon a hard time when he opens up, is what I'd like to know?
Of course, maybe he's just cracking under the pressure. (Walter, not Gordon.)
-
Bloke 109.
PH didnt mess about. 'Artur' straight away, good to hear a Football player say it as he sees it for once and not be diplomatic, liked it. What was the PH gesture?
Just like to say that Sno had a good game. Had an early morning vision of him scoring the first goal and watched him closly.
Looks like he may have settled and has some confidence, saw some footage from a recent reserve game, he looked like the main man in every move.

Perhaps italiabhoy's fairminded colleagues at the BiasedBroadcastingCorporation weren't working today. I think that had it been WGS he'd be asked to account for his own behaviour.

SFTB & Chennaiseabird,
I watched the game on TV today, but, when the troops came back to the pub they, to a man, slaughtered McManus, not one of us like him. Sorry, do you actually watch him during games, he's everywhere but the right place.
Did you see the comical clearance in the second half with his DODGY LEFT PEG?
FFS he is rotten, WGS might say he's good in the dressing room but, so am I, keep me there as well, as much use!

No argument about the good bits you pick for Johan and Joos.
But why concentrate on the bad bits of our current team?
Gary and Stephen have been a good partnership, especially at home. If we persevere, they will improve. If we can bring in significaznltly better, fine. But I don't see many about in our price range.
And I say again, they would have kept Real in the CL.
Our defensive record is good. Especially when you think about all the sieve predictions, through which I could drive several holes.
We're not scoring enough goals, and today is a great illustration of that.
-
calton..read yer ain post 23.54..

CT
Of course I watch the same game you do. And I don't care much whether the troops agree with me or no. I've heard a fair few foreign managers, guys who are paid to run teams, speak highly of Mick. Forgive me if I place higher value on their opinion.
Mick's been in the right place when he blocked all those shots when AC and Barca and Man U were over-running us. He was in the right place to score the goals against AC and Artmedia and when he scored 8 in 2005/6 season.
Finally, he was in the right place on The HBOS podium for the past 2 years. He'll be there again in May.
We can think about his position when we have something better lined up.
-
chennaiseabird,
While I agree don't look back.
But, it was the same at the 5-1 game at Pittoddrie. We could have been a few goals down then as well.
But, hey, 5-1, still didn't mask the fact that Lee Miller (Celtic Fan ?????) won everything in the air that day as well as today.
I would rather we contested the 1st ball after our defense had cleared it rather than defending the second and third ball as happened today.
PUNT McMANUS CSC
-
Every player, even Stephen McManus, has a right to be left footed.
Break the mould, Stephen, captain of Celtic.
Did anyone notice how much talking he was doing on the pitch today?
caltontongues
I watch him, and for every error like the misdirected pass today (an error of judgement, not ability) there are many telling but unnoticed interventions. He's not Maldini, but he's not McGugan either.
-
McManus was chosen as Captain too early but what were the other options at the time?
I saw him shout/organise a few times on TV today, but also made a few mistakes.
But being Captain would lead to issues should he be dropped/rested. Media spin, deteroration of confidence etc etc.
Like the fact hes a youth system produced Captain from Lanarkshire, I like those kind of Captains.
Who else would you have as Captain? Id say PH if he was a regular 1st name on the team sheet, but he is not.
The only other 1st pick would be the holy Goalie? But wrong position.
(Not to be confused with the horny goalie, saw an old media front page today)
Who else?
Think he should continue to play to become a real Captain.
I think he is still learning his trade, defenders get better with experience.
-
CT
Did Barca not pay £15m for Milito?
Is he not left footed?
Materazzi?? Lescott?
Yes Mick has a weakness with defensive headers but Lee Miller has given a rough time to better defenders than Mick. He's (LM) actually very good in the air, even though he's not a Celtic fan.
-
awalkacrosstherooftops,
Honest it only shows one post at that time, on my computer, although it was a second attempt.

Just seen the highlights.
Great credit must go to Jan. Numerous chances but kept going and got his/our reward.
It will be interesting to see how some old bloke riggles out of an assult on an SFA official. Gordon SMITH will throw the book at him. Wait and see!

Funnily enough, my view of today was, we did enough to win 5-1 again. It did not occur to me that the last game could have been 1-1.
I missed the first ten minutes today, saw our defence dominate their attack for an hour, saw our attacking players come close but not quite make the best of some good opportunities, saw Aberdeen get a second wind when they should have been dead and buried, thought of Barnsley and Portsmouth, saw the inevitable coming, wondered why we couldn't chage the game to stop it, saw staunch defending that kept us in it, saw substitutions made that eventually paid off.
One bad pass from Stephen McManus I saw. But then, I like him and look for the good things he does. I cut him some slack.
Did you see the Real Madrid game during the week? Did you see how poor their central defence was?

Paul67 @ 2229 and others since,
One of the traits of so-called professional footballers that drives me insane is the desire, the need, the requirement to kick the ball with their "strong foot".
Whenever I see a footballer contort his body and/or legs into such unnatural positions as to be almost vomit-inducing, in order to kick with their stronger foot I want to run onto the park with a baseball bat and smash their "strong" leg to pieces. Let's see how long it would take them to use their "weak" foot then!!!!
I find it obscene that a "professional" footballer will go to almost any lengths not to use their weaker foot - If I had been WGS today I would subbed McManus (and booted him up and down the place into the bargain)immediately after he almost gifted a goal (but for The Holy Goalie, it would have been) purely because he would not use his right foot.
Who coaches these guys???? Can they not see this?? How did they EVER become professional footballers??
I remember my grandpa teaching me at the age of approx 7 or 8 how to use my weaker foot, first of all with accuracy then by strength.
He would make me take off my right boot and sock and mark out goals for me. He would then take away the ball and replace it with a tin of beans/soup whatever and have me use that to try to score. Let me tell you after having kicked that tin/can with your bare foot a couple of times you soon learn to use the "weak" foot. Once the accuracy was good (or decent anyway) I was made to go further away and attempt to score by hitting it harder.
This lesson certainly helped me out and still does to this day.
As a player with a stronger right foot, I played many a game as both left back and left midfield mainly because I could use my left foot fairly accurately without this need to almost break my leg in order to strike the ball with my right foot.
I cannot begin to describe how much the red mist descends when I see this. In fact I am going to leave it here as I could go on for hours on this subject and I can already feel my blood pressure rocketing - don't need this just before going to bed!
Anyway at least we got the replay and we can look forward to beating them at Home before the game against QOS.
Roll on the Double!
HAIL! HAIL!

I said it before and I'll state it again.
Had we spent £5m on Mick it would have been money well spent. It's wrong to jump up and down after every mistake he (or any other player) makes.
Given our support Mick and Gary in time could form a Narey/Heggerty; Miller/McLeish partnership.
One point I would agree on is, we lack experience. Buying a 32yo been there, spent it, done it player would be top of my summer transfer list.

chennaiseabird,
Last reply disappeared.
I never mentioned the last game could have finished 1-1. All I said, and, it has been mentioned by alot of people on here that we don't win the first ball and that puts us under pressure IMMEDIATELY.
But, hey we've got away with it so far. THAT WILL NOT DO FOR ME!

Further to the Lee Miller (celtic fan) comment.
I can confirm he is anything but one of us, as one of my younger brother's played football in the same team as him a few years back and has mentioned several times how much of a currant he is/was.
For the record LM attended Clyde Valley High School (that's Garrion Academy for us 25yrs + out there) a school not exactly noted for its plethora of Celtic Supporting pupils!!

I have not noticed too many teams who have a top defence. Watched the Madrid game in a Barcelona Tapas bar so the memory of Madrid mistakes were blurred and celebrated.
I first thought chelsea as an example of central defence, but Barnsley caused mayhem in there. Just now I can only think of Man Utd as having a solid defence, but again they have been open to critisisim lately.
You have a good point, there is not a team who has an un critisisable defence.

Token Two Footer
I know what you mean but while we have what we've got, I'll defend Stephen's right to be left footed.
He's only a central defender, for goodness sake. What does it matter whether he boots it into row zz left or row zz right?
What, he should be trying to play football? Pass it? Like Gary Caldwell? Or Alan Hansen?
You might have a point.....

I confirm your LM story, I met him at a current Celtic players wedding when he was on the move and after talking to him, I didnt 'buy' him a free drink.

I missread you, sorry. I guess I'm just lucky, because I missed the start of the 5-1 game as well. So I can't comment on we could have been goals down, other than we weren't, and somebody in the defence must have been doing their job.
Winning the first ball. I'm not great on tactics to be honest, but I expect the first ball to be won by my defensive midfielders, and my central defenders to be there as back up. Unless it's the high ball, in which case the central defender's job is either to win it or to create enough disruption that we pick it up second ball.
Mostly, with our team, that works. Goals against say so. Best defensive record in Scotland, I believe.
Estadio
Some losing manager at the weekend said, I wasn't happy with the defending but I don't want to take away from the goal. Can't remember who it was, but it could have been any weekend.
Every goal is preventable. Except Naka's.
PS Kojo
Disappointed not to have gone through first time today. Delighted still to be in it.

Chenna,
LOL! Might use that as my non de guerre from now on, although in saying that look where my "two-footedness" got me.....playing over 35s for Wishy FP's after many seasons at the exalted level of the Lanarkshire Amateur Leagues.
Not quite captaining Celtic FC to a double (hopefully!).
To be fair I only used SMcM as an example purely because of his mistake today. It was meant generically, not personally at our club Captain.
I have nothing against left footed-defenders be they Centre halfs or otherwise.
I should also point out that I am much more of an old-skool type in that I am of the "If in doubt, boot it out" school of thought.
I want my defenders to defend first and foremost, ball playing is all very well, but that can come after you have won the ball and then only IF you are good enough. If not, clear your lines or give it to some one who is able to play!
Est Nac, thanks for the confirmation. Take it his chat-up lines were wasted on you then :-)??

Should of course have read "Nom de guerre" or "Nom de plume" which is probably more apt in this case as I don't believe that I have declared war against any posters on here as yet.
It's getting late and I'm tired.
That's my excuse anyway.
Cheers

Just so you know, my response was from the heart. I tried to teach my older boy two footedness, and we made good progress until he was five.
Then I realised that even with his right foot he would be better at something else. Probably using his hands.
He just bought himself a Ferrari last weekend so I guess that was a good realisation.
But if could choose to be a modern football player I'd be Lubo.

He had just finished his loan to hertz but was still with Bristol City. I used to read the comics back then and Celtic were rumored to be interested, which I didnt believe.
Asked him about it and he said he 'was waiting for a call' lets just say it was from the shi* called dignity.
I couldnt even get him a free drink.
Against my Football beliefs.
I like your left foot training theory, when did you do that?
Im guessing kids are different now, Ive yet to have my future Superstar.

Mr Harris is a figure of some controversy ,and much ridicule in this neck of the woods.
Some believe that he writes for the Sunnday Independent because his wife,Anne Harris,is on the editorial staff.
Others believe that he has not renounced the Stalinist views of Offical IRA/The Workers Party but has adopted the role of agent provocateur and in this guise he seeks to bring into disrepute all the causes that he appears to espouse. They quote the fact that while working for the right wing Fine Gael party conference some years ago he produced a skit (starring Twink)that seriously embarrassed their leader John Bruton and undermined his credability.
Finally there are those who do believe that he has renounced every principle that he has formerly held dear.Which begs the question why should we treat seriously the latest views of somebody who admits that he got it all wrong?
AS norman Finkelstein says a member of the flat earth society who suddenly discovers thst the world is round does not get to keynote an astronomers convention.Indeed the prudent inference would seem to be ,once an idiot always an idiot.

Chenna,
Nice realisation. Is he a keeper then or just very successful in his chosen field (assuming you judge success by being able to buy a Ferrari......I do anyway, what a machine!).
Also re. Lubo, I think he is the most two-footed player I have EVER seen. One word sums him up - Genius!
Estadio Nacional,
Heard many a story re. LM prob because he is a local boy and also because my wee bro knew him so hears lots from his peers.
Re. the left foot training, that would have been about 30 years ago courtesy of my Grandpa. Apparently he was a very good player in his day and was asked to go Senior but because of family committments, he didn't take this offer up.
I am trying to get my boy (4 yrs old) to kick with his right foot just now, he appears at this stage to be predominantly left footed, ironically enough. But will wait a few years before using the same method as I was taught.
I can honestly say it definitely improved my ability with my left foot.
Anyway think its close to bed-time for me.
Nite All.

Cheers, like your thoughts. Left Footer? Majic, the rest of your training should be easy.
Your Grandpa knew what he was doing.
I have taken note of your Grandpas methods for future reference.

Could Walters Smith's behaviour yesterday be contrived?
All for one and one for all.
If you have a go at one of my players ,i will have a go at you.
I think that he is a very shrewd man at building team spirit.
-
Will anything be said about Walter’s wee dummy spit? I won’t hold my breath.
Walter Smith v Mixu Paatelainen
I don't think there was anything shrewd about it at all - that bordered on bullying and thuggery.
Now why does the cop push back the hibs manager when it is obvious who the aggresor is?
Some 'Dignity' eh? If I behaved that way in the street I'd be arrested.
-
Bloke109- 23.40 last night. JBarnes didn't pick Mjallby, that would have been Dr Jo. JB's contribution to our central defence was Scheidt.
Good result yesterday, after having been given the run-around in the Nou Camp. We need to follow it up with 6 points this week.
WateringholeGazebo- if you're lurking. King Lud on Saturday?

Saw it on TV and Smith came across as a bad tempered bully. Not a desirable trait. Pat Nevin had a wee go though, unlike the other guys.

Where oh where are my pills.
Can anybody point me in the direction of all the Headlines, the columns, the articles, condemning Walter Smith for his school-yard dummy spit.
Naw… all I can find is how it was all the fault of Mixu Paatelainen and the Hibs bench insidious attempts to get the ‘Angels of Ibrox’ into strife.
People will buy into it too, because that’s what ‘some people’ want to buy into.
Where the hell are my pills?
