Celtic play the Aberdeen id

Pittodrie has become a favourite ground for Celtic, who have scored eight goals on their two visits this season with the loss of only two, which belies the reputation the ground has as being a testing location.

At least part of the reason Celtic do so well there is a result of Aberdeen’s self image; they have not emotionally moved on from when they were good enough to have a go and beat anyone at home.

Excellent results in Europe this season, especially against Bayern Munich, throw kerosene on the flaming Aberdonian id, despite mounting evidence that they are incapable of playing an attacking game against Celtic.

Irrespective of where Aberdeen are in the league, we never find them deploy the customary SPL home tactics against Celtic of playing 10 men behind the ball when in possession, and more when they defend.

This makes for good football; how many boring trips to Pittodrie can you remember? And Celtic are likely to concede possession and chances, but fortunately, they usually manage to score a few goals.

Two non SPl games in a row should help ease the title chasing pressure on the team.

I read on Paul's Times link that Aberdeen have only sold 10000 tickets for tomorrow yet only made 3300 available to Celtic-
Surely they have missed an opportunity to increase revenue by giving us the whole of the south enclosure (around 5000 tickets)?

With Scott Brown suspended the choice of the midfield two will be interesting. Is Robson cuptied?

    Pretty sure Robson is cup-tied.

Aberdeen are a good cup team and are always hard to beat at home.

For me, to come away still in the competition would be all right, even though, obviously, it would mean fitting in an extra fixture.

Any win would be a great result.

They're saying that Thatcher had a couple of minor strokes and was advised to give up the lecture circuit because her short-term memory had been affected. I suspect that she has Alzheimers and, as a slap in the face to sufferers and their families, that is considered to be a diagnosis "beneath" the great Baroness.
My mother, God rest her soul, used to tell us, "You don't hate anyone!" With Thatcher it was a difficult admonition to follow.

    Re Celtic View Letters

I've been informed by a number of sources now that the Ticket office is for the 'Peter Lawell' axe, with the service and staff transferring to Ticketmaster. ALL ticket matters will then be dealt with phone/web/letter/text!

The reaction of those who have talked about it so far has been scathing as once more they see nothing but a short-term 'monetary' saving and a medium to longer term isolation and dissolution of the support's connection with the club.

So good for the bottom line then! BUT Bad for concept of 'more than a club'!!.

Sadly for me, I can see that the pendulum has swung so far away from a reasonable constructive happy medium of football/business friction that it will swing back some time in the future with such ferocity of disinterest from future generations, that the echo of protest will only be the deafening silence of....

'Who cares....I've got other more important things to do on a Saturday/Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday'.

After all we moved the players to Lennoxtown and lost the connection as they returned from training, we set up telephone lines that ring on interminably costing us ever more money, every away ticket has some mysterious service charge applied, weans without reasonably well-off families have as much chance of getting a season ticket as I have of taking tea with Ian paisley.

Everything from food to support services has been outsourced, all producing extra profit margin for Celtic, for the Service company, and extra cost for the supporter.

Celtic don't want any official outlet to be inundated with letters of protest.

The American Franchise is on its way and in twenty years time, "Celtic" as a concept will bear no relation to "Celtic - the outlet shop for soccer bargain hunters".

I better shut up now as I am only becoming more depressed, and anyway as long as the support who exist in the future are happy then everything should be as right as rain!

It just seems to me that 'Progress' sort of implies 'better' not just 'more profitable, and I can think of progressive ways of combining 'improvement' with 'sustainability' without riddling the foundations of the club with dry rot!

If a drink addled brain can see other ways, then so should PL and Company!

    Pub calls!!

    Estadio,

Of all the factors you mentioned, the most important one is the absence of the apostolic succession of young supporters replacing the old ones in their families, due to parents being unable to pay for their admission as children.

We have come a long way since fathers lifted their sons over the turnstile, but that is where me and countless thousands made our connection with Celtic.

Future generations may only engage with the club as one of their favourite teams on an edition of Football Manager.

The dilution is already in place and look around you the next time you are at Celtic Park and see how many young people,i.e. children are there.

The front of the terracing used to be lined all round the stadium with children. In fact ,you had to be there early to get your place at the wall.

    The bell is tolling.

I know it's bad form to read the Record but my mate sent me a link to their Gretna story this morning. Here's a direct quote for anyone in any doubt about media bias:
    ----------
there are growing concerns top-flight teams would have EVERY point earned against the Borders club this season declared void.

That nightmare scenario would cut Rangers' lead over Celtic at the top to just one point.

    ----------
Note: the use of "nightmare". At least I didn't pay to read it.

Just heard on Radio Scotland that FIFA have agreed Duffield's request to use technology to clamp down retrospectively on cheating from next season. Haven't heard the full text but it seems that Blatter's greater concern which he raised when asked by the BBC reporter about clamping down on hammer thrower "football" has not been pursued. If that were to be followed up, along with assessing seriously referees' performances, we might edge towards a more even playing field.

Oh well, back to the grind !!! Afternoon one and all. Just got back from Barcelona last night and what a great trip it was. A great city, wonderful architecture, lovely people and warm !!!!

The highlights in no particular order, well, except for the last one :o)

    1) Meeting Pastyface and her partner for the first time. Great craic and how very like-minded were we ???

    2) As above (but not for the first time !) with WG and his pal. It was worth the walk mate and if there is a longer street in the world than "Diagonal", I'll be very surprised.

    3) Visiting La Sagrada Família What a building. I could have spent the whole week alone looking at it.

    4) Visiting the Picasso museum. Thanks Mr & Mrs Pastyface, yes you were right, it was worth the effort. My respect for him as a painter has risen quite substantially although I'd love to know what he was "on" in later life.

    5) Going to the game. It was a tricky one when it came to buying the tickets. Do you buy from someone in the street (€170 thanks very much) and find out you still couldn't get in ! Or do you just hope you'll bump in to a fellow tim with two to spare. That was never going to happen. In the end, we turned up at the stadium and decided to give €200 to a Barca fan who promptly swiped us in and that was it. Right behind the Barca goal ! I know how cold it was where we where, so I can only imagine how cold it was where the Celtic fhans where.

And finally the best part of the trip by a country mile................ Being at the meeting place before the game and watching your son finally realising how fortunate he is to be born one of us. Watching him sing his wee (!) head off amongst "his ain" will live with me 'till the day I die. The pride that I felt at that moment in time justified to me why I follow the team that I do. We may not be the best in the world, but we sure do have the Greatest fhans in the world.

No contact at the penalty but perhaps the forward fell trying to avoid the goalie. Unlucky Rio with the penalty kick.
    Well done Pompey.

    the pleasure was all ours.

So glad you enjoyed the Picasso. I stand by my view of him being the greatest artist.

Sagrada Familia is definitely the weirdest building I've ever been to - I doubt it will ever be finished - they say 2026 believe that if you may.

You're a braver 'man' than me getting your tickets that way. Thankfully we had a seat at a bar. An American couple there that managed to restore my faith in the Yanks - a little.

Have to say. I am delighted about this :)

Rangers FC will be without Daniel Cousin for up to six weeks after the 31-year-old broke his jaw in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 first leg defeat of Werder Bremen.

    Starring role
The Gabon forward was replaced with 15 minutes remaining of Thursday's 2-0 victory against the Bundesliga side, having received a blow to the face. Cousin, who scored the first and helped create the second for Steven Davis, will now miss the return leg in Germany next Thursday, as well as the derby against title rivals Celtic FC on 29 March. "This is the worst possible thing that could happen after breaking back into the team," said Cousin, who will undergo surgery in the coming days. "Hopefully, I'll get back as quickly as possible so I can help the team win trophies. I'm out of the next leg but I know my team-mates can finish the job."

Wasn't Man Utd's day. They missed a raft of chances, were denied a clear penalty when Ronaldo was through on goal and barged off the ball, hit the post, had a ball cleared off the line, conceded a penalty when Baros sticks his knee on their substitute keeper's head and then tumbled over. To add insult to injury, they have the same goalie sent off when there were two players back on the goal-line.

Let's hope that we don't endure such poor luck tomorrow.

    Thank you.

In this world, on this blog, there are always kind and decent men. There are always more good than bad and the cream always rises to the top. With it goes your good self in a company of many, but especially your friends - Oldtim67 and Dick Byrne.

We did once meet, albeit only for seconds. Just time to say hello and shake a hand or two and honour a pledge to your son; but come May, and our good God willing, we’ll have time and reason to raise many a glass and many a smile. And maybe sing a wee song too.

    I never sit down Martin.

Last time I looked the flag of Champions still flew at Parkhead. Can’t see any good reason why it shouldn’t be there next season too.

    Back Home in Derry

In 1803 we sailed out to sea
Out from the sweet town of Derry
For Australia bound if we didn't all drown
And the marks of our fetters we carried
In our rusty iron chains we sighed for our weans
Our good women we left in sorrow
As the mainsails unfurled, our curses we hurled
On the English, and thoughts of tomorrow

    CHORUS
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry

At the mouth of the Foyle, bid farewell to the soil
As down below decks we were lying
O'Doherty screamed, woken out of a dream
By a vision of bold Robert dying
The sun burned cruel as we dished out the gruel
Dan O'Connor was down with a fever
Sixty rebels today bound for Botany Bay
How many will meet their reciever

    CHORUS
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry

I cursed them to hell as her bow fought the swell
Our ship danced like a moth in the firelight
White horse rode high as the devil passed by
Taking souls to Hades by twilight
Five weeks out to sea, we were now forty-three
Our comrades we buried each morning
In our own slime we were lost in a time
    Of endless night without dawning

    CHORUS
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry

Van Diemen's land is a hell for a man
To live out his whole life in slavery
Where the climate is raw and the gun makes the law
Neither wind nor rain care for bravery
Twenty years have gone by, I've ended my bond
My comrades ghosts walk behind me
    A rebel I came - I'm still the same
On the cold winters night you will find me

    CHORUS
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry
Oh Oh Oh Oh I wish I was back home in Derry

    I’ll sing you the chorus

    It's my own Irish home
    Far across the foam
Although I've oft times left it
    In foreign lands to roam
    No matter where I wander
    Through cities near or far
My heart is at home in old Ireland
    In the County of Armagh

    Stoir,

I know we met once, even for just a gew seconds and we were introduced and shook hands.

I have the greatest respect for most of the posters on C Q N and high amonst them are Oldtim ansd Dick Byrne.

We have been accused of being cronies and of being a CLOSED SHOP, but that was because of the twisted mind of the individual concerned.

We are a very open, very receptive bunch of Celtic Supporters.

The only criteria needed to join us is a love of all things Celtic and a desire to treat each other with respect and civility.

I sincerely hope we do meet again and I am sure that the league flag will continue to fly over our stadium.

We will have the biggest OPEN party in Babbity Bowsters when that day comes.

Thanks for your kind words, Stoir,

    STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS,

    Martin.

    KilbowieCelt-

    filth?

    FILTH ?

Since when did the Wee Free Church seize control of editorial policy of Celtic Quick News ?

If you are such a good judge of what is filthy and what is not-

I hope you have written/telephoned or e-mailed th editors of EVERY tabloid rag in this country to complain about the filth published on page 3[so I heard]of their daily issues.

It is a humorous song sang by the Celtic Away Support.

Why don't you wade in amongst them and let them know that YOU carry a torch for Miss Adams.

The same Miss Adams who left her underwear in some lads flat in Penilee.

    Don't be so up yourself.

    Hold on a minute-

    are you Jack Glass ?

If we beat Aberdeen, it's Queen of the SOuth in the semi.

For the benefit of Des Clarke and Stuart Cosgrove in the BBC TV studio after the draw, this match will be the Scottish Cup semi. In my thinking, and according to tradition, that means the game will be played at Hampden. Bit of a shame you both pointed out that Celtic or Aberdeen wouldn't necessarily fancy a trip to Palmerston. Lazy journalism. If either were anything approaching journalists.
