Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league
They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,
They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,
From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,
To a place called dear old paradise and this is what they say.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.
There's Fallon, Young and Gemmel who proudly wear the green,
There's Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,
Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,
And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.

Yes Alasdair we know you fancy the Dutch contingent tonight you don't have to tell us three times, or were you that desperate for the number one spot ;-)

3-0 to the Bhoys tonight with Brown to get on the scoresheet.

    ....................

I read this on the BBC rumour page.

"Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has had scouts watching Bournemouth striker Sam Vokes. (Daily Star)"

I don't know much about him but from a two minute surf across the net I found out the following:

    - He's 18

    - Played 43 games for Bournemouth scoring 14 goals. Which is quite good considering his age even if it is only league 1.

    - Dual nationality: English/Welsh

    - 7 Welsh U21 caps and 4 goals.

    - Other clubs said to be interested: Newcastle and Aston Villa

    - Bournemouth went into administration recently which suggests they'd happily sell players off for the cheap.

    - He's 6ft 1 and 13st 10lbs. So he's fairly tall and bulky for his age. That's quite heavy (or am I just going by my rake like standards?) but he doesn't look it from the pictures. Maybe it's more muscle.

    - He's No 9

If wee Sammy Vokes is 6'1 and weighs 13 st 10 his BMI is 26, which is verging on the JHartson side of chunky. Unless of course it's his glands, or he's heavy boned.

It said on Radio Shortbread the other day that SmacD was the'second heaviest' player in the squad. Must be his love handles.

celtic-first, I must learn to make that wee sign that says I am not serious. No need to apologise to Carmyle. It deserves all the cheap shots....to go with the cheap wine (wee sign etc)

blantyretim, 4-0 would be great but like ou, I'd settle for a scrappy one goal victory right now.
Not sure about who to start upfront with Samaras...probably agree that JVOH just gets the nod.

Excellent article on Etims about the quality of this season's performances. Should be essential reading especially for the mineshafters. They've got it dead right in my opinion. I have seen a lot lot worse over the years, especially in the late 50s, early 60s' and most of the 90s'.

    Just win tonight, lhads.

    Mon the Hoops

7-0 tonight with Sno with 4 goals and Caldwell with 3 goals and all the wee kiddies atending their first game because of the kiddies promotion tonight, squeal with joy and badger their mineshafting dads to buy them Sno and Caldwell jerseys, would that be a wonderful sight.

I notice every so often when there is considerable time between games the CQN reverts back to the MON Versus WGS Debating Society. I think we should be happy that we had back to back successful managers. I must confess the last season and a half of MON I was starting to descend down to the first level of the Mineshaft, likewise I will do the same with WGS when he become unsuccessful, what I will never do is throw in the towel or give up on the manager while the league is still there to win.

Every manager like a player has a sell-by-date. I thought Mon left at the right time plus he had good and admirable reasons too. At the end of this season I will offer my opinion (not that it will anyway matter)on WGS if he should 'Stay or should he Go' (possibly the worst Clash song ever imho). At this point in time WGS and his players get my %100 support.

I believe if WGS can win all the remaining 3 or 4 games with the huns ( I honestly hope that the huns make it to the Scottish Cup Final as it has been a long time since we have beaton them in a final 91 I think), he might then start to look like a leg-end to the mineshafters and the TerryTowel Throwing Talibans of the CQN would look foolish throwing in the Towel so early, saying that some of the towel throwers do not need to throw in the towel to look foolish, only a wee joke in case there sensitive towel throwers out there, I would suggest you get your missus to use a better fabric softner.

    3 in a row.

I find it rich for you to accuse me of hiding. You, who posts using multiple identities, in a blend of rhyme, riddles and American accents.

That said, I apologise to you, or anyone else I offended with my post. It was not my intention to offend, nor to start a row on the matter. I was simply a bit put out that you chose to chastise me, the third person to post on the subject.

I'm happy to leave it at that. Good luck to you and yours.

Can`t seem to get too excited about tonight`s game (so it could turn out to be a real cracker!)so I`ll give my contribution to the MON / GS `debate. I prefer Gordon. Martin`s record was good; Gordon`s is better (at this stage).I also thought Martin was too negative in telling all who would make a meal of it that our players were shattered by November. Gordon is much more positive and takes the line that fit playerrs do not really need a rest and committed players are mentally fresh all season. We have a real chance of three in a row.hopefully then EVERYONE will get behind the manager as, indeed, we should all be now.

I think I remember that 87 game because I noticed Roy Aitken had Adidas Tango Bogota trainers on. Also one of the few live games on tv those days.

I was 12 and delghted to say I was in the away end at ibrox the day before.
Now that I think about it, I always thought there was a TV blackout at the time. I have searched for years to find footage of the Accies win, and have been convinced there was a tv blackout.

rangurs did have footage of it but it misteriously disapeared.

Anybody else notice the possesion stats when Dundee Utd went 1-0 up on Sunday 65% V rangers 35%.

This confirms for me that Celtic should go to Ibrox and play 442.

Dundee Utd dominated the midfield, theyre 4 against Rangers 5 with that physical giant Willow Flood the man of the match.

Much has been made of Rangers physical superiorty over us and the last ibrox game is sited as evidence of this.

Ma take is that it was more harrassment than bullying, frenetic overcame finesse.

It will not happen this time.

Dundeee utd were calm in possesion,a fact that i commend their manager for,Its takes courage to hold the ball rather than hoof it they showed it against uds in patches so it did not surprise me that they played a possesion game on Sunday.

Aiden McGeady will roast Broadfoot,Scott Mcdonald will be a nightmare for Weir and Cueller.

Another reason i would not like us playing 1 up is simply that players are creatures of habit, they do not easily adapt to new formations.

442 is your man,the only concession i would make for Ibrox is Naka on the bench to start.

agree with you promoting 4-4-2 at Ipox, the only worry would be that the huns would bring in the lines and narrow the pitch much like my bhoat in order to clog up the middle. But we have have better players, Robson for Naka with Hartly in the middle.

bookings in sfa cup do not carry to the league, the exception to this is if it is a red card and deemed violent conduct. in this case the bookings can apply on a next game basis regardless of competition.

i agree with your view of the impending ibrox game.

we do not have the personnel both playing, and managing that physically or tactically can match rangers, they are much more aggressive team.

we have better players than dundee utd, but they gave rangers a much better game than we have in the last three encounters. they play 4 4 2 with inferior players so why have we faired so poorly?

    teamwork? coaching?

imagine both naka and aiden mcgeady in our side
play your best players, play 4 4 2, if we are going to play the celtic way, then go the whole hog and play
all our matchwinners from the start.

and of course hope we do not suffer the same fate as utd did, when vital decisions are to be made like
clark and cuellar at 1-0 = clark and lennon at 1-0

    My dear,dear,dear friend TerryO

    I just read your comments.

    They make sense.

Naka is definitely marked as... NEVER to play at IBROX, material!

    Correct me if I err( Don't worry,babe...he will!....ed)( Mebbe no,Mebbe no!)

But, I have nevah seen Naka, have a usual Naka at his best... Type of Game...against the G.A!

And I mean that, even when Celtic were enjoying ascendancy over the G.A.

So.....the dispensing with Naka... as you suggest...is "A" O.K.,with me.

    The 4-4-2....?

Wella... I must confess that those numbers are so much Greek to me... Numbers, SHNUMBERS!

What I do understand is this.

AN ATTACKING FORMATION, is always the way to Go...against anybody...
The Barcelona Game...showed the glaring flaws in the One-up- Front System ,that Mr. Strachan adopted for that particular, confrontation.

    Meanwhile, back at the farm...

I want to see,in today's game against Aberdeen...

A Celtic Team, that plays like they are in a race for the Championship...rather...as the have been doing, lately.
    ..
Like a team, who are looking forward to their Holidays Abroad...and how fine a tan, they are hoping to get.

    In this game today....
I CHALLENGE THE CELTS to Prove to me...CONVINCINGLY... that I was somewhat Premature in My Apostasy.

EDB- Coatbridge, thanks for asking. He sets off round the world at the beginning of April.

I hope to use the kindness of excellent CQNers in faraway places to get him fixed up with places to watch the season's denouement.

Up until Sunday I thought that If Gordon Strachan Wants to play Naka and McGeady at Ibrox then he needs 5 in midfield. Robson, Brown and Hartley would be my others.

However DU passed them off the pitch on Sunday so surely we can do the same - without 5 in midfield. I'd put Robson in for Naka and have Skippy and JVOH up front. Sammy comes on after 66 minutes and makes it 3 - 0.

Mick (23 minutes) and Skippy ( 44 minutes) for the other two.

The selection of the midfield reminds me of the kids tv show from the `70`s ....runaround

The midfield is selected in such a haphazard, changeable fashion ....that it almost appears that lots are being cast or straws drawn
can anyone explain what the point is in giving Sno 1 and 1/2 games to impress....gie the bhoy a chance

once again the underachiever is thrust into the fray...for no good reason i can see....did he change the game last Wednesday..not IMO...i hope i`m wrong

    come on bhoys

Aiden in posession. McGeady fouled but no booking for the Aberdeen player. Was pulled back. Ref should have played advantage

Long ball into box. JVOH takes down but shot blocked. Still Celtic posession
