A revised fixture prediction:
23 Mar - Gretna (A)
29 Mar - Rangers (A)
05 Apr - Motherwell (H)
12 Apr - Motherwell (A)
16 Apr - Rangers (H)
19 Apr - Dundee Utd (A)
27 Apr - Falkirk (H)
04 May - Rangers (H)
10 May - Motherwell (A)
18 May - Hibs (H)
10 games to win the league!
But the last 4 weeks we would be playing only one game a week.
Rangers fixtures could look like this:
22 Mar - Hibs (H)
29 Mar - Celtic (H)
03 Apr - Sporting Lisbon (H)
06 Apr - Dundee Utd (A)
10 Apr - Sporting Lisbon (A)
13 Apr - Partick Thistle (A)
16 Apr - Celtic (A)
20 Apr - St Johnstone (N)?
24 Apr - UEFA semi?
27 Apr - Hibs (A)
01 May - UEFA semi?
04 May - Celtic (A)
07 May - Motherwell (H)
10 May - Dundee Utd (H)
13 May - St Mirren (A)
18 May - Falkirk (A)
24 May - Aberdeen/ St J (N)?
And they still have Motherwell (A) to fit in - but where?

I'd like to dedicate my third 'first' to the 'clique' and thank them for all their 'help' in getting me to where I am today.

Once again Celtic fans have been let down by the SFA & the SPL.
The SFA's decision to have the Partick Thistle v Rangers replay on a weekend (Sunday 13th April) instead of the normal midweek for replays means greater travel hassle for Celtic fans going to the midweek Celtic v Rangers league match.
Not only this, but the SFA and the SPL have again shown that helping Rangers is their main priority for this season.
Rangers play Sporting Lisbon on the Thursday (10th April) before the Thistle game so they quite obviously didn't want them going to Celtic Park 2 days after that game becase of any fatigue issue.

I have heard about the "clique" before but treat those who talk about it in sinister terms with the distain they deserve.
I like reading this blog because of the useful Celtic information Paul provides and because of the generally good natured banter.
I tend to resist it following a por result (or in some cases a poor performance but a good result) because of the doomsayers and anti-Strachan brigade.

I believe that a couple of the players are on a bookings tightrope and we could lose them at a crucial period during the run in
I know its controversial but if I was up there i would consider a
4-1-3-2 agaist gretna
Boruc,
Hinkel, Balde, Mcmanus,Naylor,
Caldwell, (holding midfield)
Naka, Sno/Donati, Robson,
Samaras, JVOH/Riordan
This would take the booking risk out of the equation
Or should I up my medication

Just to clarify.
The clique "thing". was in my post.
There was no reference to anyone being in the club's payroll in my post.
If you don't agree well and good. But we could do without the snide remarks.

From previous article:
Aqua Al, no, I haven’t heard anything about Ben’s build, but I’ll look out for it, thanks. You have a good one too.
Jamie, don’t be ridiculous. “Is is true…” does that mean you have conversed with someone who has so little to do with themselves that they tell you lies about me?
I despair. What type of people are they?
Why bother.
St Gris, thanks.
Lurgan53, Celtic fans are sociable people, as are Celtic Quick News contributors. If they meet and enjoy each others company, don’t feel the need to criticise them for it, invitations to CQN events have always been OPEN to all.
If you don't feel part of 'it', say so, I am sure someone will make a special effort for you, but don't criticise those you believe are part of 'it'.
Ulysses, you have to wonder about humanity sometimes.

Gordon and Gordon_j, thanks for the heads up re K.O for the game at the Hunnery. Don't know where I saw it but had K.O @ 3pm wishful thinking I suppose. Well since the clocks go ahead after the game I still get the extra hour.
Don't mean to scratch at fresh wounds, but from the last couple of games I've watched it seems we are playing too one sided in our approach, We seem to pushing all the play down the left and I know Aiden has been brilliant this year, but he seems to be very tired around the 60min mark in our recent games.
I believe we have got to work the right side a bit more, I would like to see MR. Wilson at the right back slot for the Gretna game.
I feel we are lacking a bit of pace there recently. No disrespect to Her Hinkel.

I believe the clocks move forward in UK on March 30th.
At the moment we have a 4 hour time difference. So 8:30 Philly time for the Rangers kick off.

I take your point re all out attack
The fact that gretna could be playing under 19 players and the like could lead to mistimed tackles and loss of temper and composure by the tic
and not forgetting the mib, as mcgeady has already been booked for pulling a face.
I cannot trust scott brown so I am thinking for him and others.
I read jingle jangle jackson this morning and I have no doubts that
there will be malice aforethought
from mibs, sfa, spl,
It would appear the cardigan is seething and wants an extension to the season
Buckle up 109, if there was at least a sniff of a chance we could lose mcgeady for the forthcoming OF game they will look for it

Not going to be posting until after the weekend as I'm off to Masss then basically working from 5pm tonight through to 3am Monday morning but for sleep. Just to wish Paul and everyone on here a good Easter weekend and a good win on Sunday will be the icing on the cake.
I'm being totally honest though when I say I'lljust be happy with the 3 points!

Yup, spot on. The ref for Sunday is Craig Thomson - a guy always happy to place himself in the spotlight and prove himself 'strong' in front of cameras and assessors. For Rangers-Hibs it's Steve Conroy, who I've always thought of as either fairly rubbish or rubbishly fair.
Your point on the mib and the anti-media is all the more relevant and is further reason for 100% backing of every player and the manager. To the tune of 10 Men Won the League:

Complacency you say?? I wish!!
That was then - this is now - scratch the surface of the most complacent sounding supporter and you'll find a heaving bubbling broth of anxiety simmering away un-nicely beneath that superficial exterior.

Saying that I haven't visited BB's since I've started posting on CQN, too busy this season to get up.
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't BB's own by a hun? not that it matters as I still like it there and will continue to drop in when I am up.

Lurgan - wasn't being snide - at worst I was guilty of being flippant.
Because the 'clique' thing gets to me.
My main concern, and this is NOT specific to you, is that when an individual makes a comment about a clique on here - it immediately makes me wonder what the individual is 'bringing to the party' - what are they allowing to colour their mind so that makes them make judgements on what basically amounts to some collected/connected posts from some regulars. Perception.
I have not myself been to BBs, but I have met some of the guys in the past - met WG before a pre-season friendly in the vaults - I don't consider me and him to be in a clique although he is awed by the beauty and finesse that we ML3ers carry.
I was making a joke - being flippant and if it was at your expense I apologise and I'd be happy to meet you and let you buy me a pint - but I will not take up golf for no man - I would rather eat cement. A good walk wasted.
We're all here for Celtic but sometimes the chat moves and meanders - 'cos good chat is organic and has yet to find its destination.

The source was my useless cousin who could work for the Ministry Of Disinformation. I knew the owner (has a beard?) wasn't interested in football, I guess in my cousin's simple thinking, If you don't like football it equates to you being anti-football and anti-football equates to the Huns. My cousin is a long-time lurker seldom posts as his fingers are never sober enough to type. My cousin is one of those guys that tells you the same fact(wether it is true or not)every time you visit a place no matter how many times you have visited that place with him before so hopefully he has read this and stops telling me the same fallacy about the owner.

re P67 being in the pay of Celtic
Was it the mention of the Ferrari the other night that raised your suspicions? :-)
Honestly, fella did ye not consider that you were asking a question of the "Have you stopped beating your wife variety?"
re the clique accusation
I have been to BB's with some of this crowd including posters with a wide range of views. Tiny tim has been there representing the "WGS must go" wing of the support and dbbia is there representing the "growing disillusioned" group. Of course they are not delegates, they are representing their own honest views.
The accusations of clique and Paul's poodles are damaging and insulting because, boiled down, there is an accusation that your fellow posters are a group of easily persuaded, gullible individuals, huddling together for comfort.
Let me refute this right away.
There is not a single poster on here whose views on Celtic accord 100% with mine.
And that is a good thing for which many of them are glad.
Keep the debate coming but don't spread scurrilous rumour unless its about a Rankers player or employee or a journo hun.

A wee bit of analysis on our current Flaw:
For weeks I have been pondering why the team is not hitting its full potential. You could argue that we have not been as good as we could have for a long, long time now.
This afternoon it struck me. My following analysis is mostly based on the McDonald-Hesselink partnership.
We don't have the correct blend of forwards for the 4-4-2 formation. I know other things are not quite right but this is the principal reason for our current predicament, in my humble opinion of course.
In today’s game where 4-4-2 is becoming 'yesterdays' formation and more teams adopting the 'cautious' 4-5-1 formation there are a couple of concerns for the manager hoping to entertain.
The 4-4-2 can sometimes leave the midfield over run or under pressure - this is where you need one of your forwards to drop off and offer an option. Successful teams such as Man Utd often build attacks using this tactic. I don't see this happening enough or with enough purpose to matter.
The 4-4-2 can be suffocated by opposition teams 'defending high'. The way to overcome this is to make them aware that we have the potential to get in behind. This requires good passers (I am confident this is not the biggest problem) and secondly a quick forward who can times runs. We don't have this at the minute from either of our forwards. Bellamy terrified defenders without touching the ball.
The 4-4-2 can become predictable and teams soon learn to counter it i.e. 2 men on McGeady. When this happens supply to the forward becomes limited and the teams flow suffers. This is why it is for one of the forwards to have the ability to beat a man. Again I don't think we have this and the team suffers as a result. Tommy Burns once told me that beating a man was everything - it pulls a team out of shape, opens up options, gives a numerical attacking advantage, and provides momentum.
Lastly, none of our forwards can hold the ball up and then turn and face the goal; this is an ability problem more than anything else. This means that hitting out forwards with the ball will, more often than not, mean the ball is returned to the midfield where the process starts again.
Paul67 - this is the flaw.
The limitations of our current forward line, in my opinion, is the principal cause for a lot of supporter unrest. Celtic have always given the fans 'a little something extra' in the forward line. That little bit of magic or unpredictability that draws you out your warm house on a cold and wet Wednesday evening to support your team.
Samaras can hopefully help alleviate this problem in the run in - It was actually him that highlighted the issue for me.
Thoughts?
At the risk of sounding naive I would say the priority in the summer is to get a top quality centre forward or re-think the 4-4-2 approach.

Start your own clique, man!

Celtic put their cards on the table with regards to a league extension. Good. From the offical site.
“Clearly, an extension is something which we would be strongly opposed to, as it would further inconvenience supporters and could have a significant effect on the integrity of the competition.
-
True Tim
Interesting post.
I think WGS has shown some signs of tinkering with the more rigid 4:4:2 system. Against Aberdeen for the first 30 minutes, Naka seemed to have been given license to move inside to the number 10 position and he played a few cracking disguise balls through to the forwards. Unfortunately Skippy was having one of those nights where his first touch cleared the ball for the defence.
Really interested to see how the Gretna formation goes. Would like to see Hinkel getting forward much more.
-
interesting stuff from Pistol Pete on the official web site, he praises the powers that be in the SPL for dealing with the fixture crisis and follows that by stating that Celtic would vigorously oppose any extension to the season on the grounds that it would undermine the integrity of the league.
Nice one, get in there early and put the pressure on them not to help the orcs.
-
henriks sombrero-
you beat me too it, good move though from the SSM.
-
Killerheels - Excellent move by Celtic. Let them squirm.
-
SFTB - Agree, Hinkel looks as if he can go forward and beat a man. He also like to make runs into where it hurts. Hutton showed just how effective an attacking RB can be in an SPL where teams put 11 behind the ball.
Killerheels - got move from PL but sad that he had to make it. My colleagues in England thought I was joking when I mentioned that this was something we were afraid of.
-
I tried to find something on Russian sites, that is in connection with Celtic. There was Jiri Jarosik given few days ago. I'm very disgusted by his view. I can cay: people like him should never play for club like Celtic. I can reapeat what I said some time ago. Find players who know the club they are playing for. Who have respect to the club, bot to the money they can get from the club.
Another thing is the article in sports.ru. It's few days old. I post it becouse there were many posts on CQN about the tactics. I liked very much how the Russian expert calls Rangers.
Citation, exact translation.
I am sure " Glasgow Rangers " will go through. But all over again I shall afford small lyrical digression. The play of Glasgow Rangers under direction of Walter Smith is not pleasant to much. One of our known television commentators considers, that it is a “stupid team ". He did not hesitate in expressions. Grayness, walternaccio ("Waltie" - abbr. from Walter), they play anti football ? But let me explain in what anti football consists?
Did Rangers play roughly? No. Feign? No. Did they steal the time? No. So, what is the point ? It’s there. It’s a shame to play at home under the scheme 4-5-1. It’s a shame to hold 5-6 person on own half of field at the attacks. Even Aberdeen against Bavaria played better.
I must say – Rangers games do not deliver special aesthetic pleasure to me. But! Each trainer starts with opportunities of his football players. Walter Smith knows, that in his team - from half of players the ball jumps aside, as from a wall. How many Rangers players would get a place in Werder team? Barry Ferguson, Carlos Cuellar, maybe, the goalkeeper Alan McGregor ? All! At Werder - Diego, and at Rangers - МcCulloch. So how they can play against these excellent players? In open play? Smith has made all correctly. He has sated a midfield, has not left free areas in defense. He has secured the goal. Rangers used children's mistakes of Werder defense. They used stupid mistakes of their goalkeeper. Good fellows!!! It is fine, In that kind of football tactics МcCulloch can beat Diego.
-
True tim,
know what you are saying but we must take any possible advantage available.
Look what we ended up with in the seville season and I am hoping for the reverse this season as a result of only now fighting on one front so to speak. Remember also that they had a game postponed to help their Euro challenge, so I guess it evens itself out in the end..............I hope!!
3 in a row perhaps.
-
Another myth
fed up listening to bandwagon people cracking on about celtic being bullied off the park by fod
In the engine room they have that
giant Burke, collosus davis,
hemdani, novo, wee bazza, thompson,
and Lee mccullough.
Hardly giants are they!!!!!!!!!!!!
They rely on overlapping fullbacks
getting in the crosses (which has deteriorated since proudfoot replaced mutton)
Their back line is bigger but hardly gigantic.
I wonder who will fill in the assassins role up front and try and maim the celtic defenders
ala Sebo and Cousins
I think wgs should pick a battling midfield for ibrox and it is imperative that we keep mcgeady
available and on the park
Lets get ready to rumble
-
Killerheels - of course, I agree with the action but am saddened that we had to take it.
Rangers are going to face something new on the domestic front in the coming weeks - decent teams with motivation to beat them. It has been a while.
Dundee Utd were denied a trophy due to a referring decision, the kind of one you will see at a courtroom in Italy. A trip to tannadice should see them drop points.
Hibs tomorrow - Mixu has them palynig well and will fancy his chances after outplaying them on the last 2 occasions.
You will not hear this viewpoint in the media - you will hear talk of a quad.
Then they have us - there will be no lack of passion this time - I can ASSURE you of this. GS made them watch the DVD of the last game. Also please remember that we have a MUCH stornger 11 now and a bigger incentive to win.
Also don't forgot that Aiden now has Broadfoot to keep him at bay. Oh Dear.
Mickybhoy - Rangers have been over-acheiving (copyright MON) in recent months and there is only one direction you can head when you've been doing that.
-
If you've got a minute, have a look at this example of how the notion of the Old Firm is used by friends of Rangers to smear our club. if you've got two minutes put in a comment.

Good post, I think the predictability is more the team than the formation, more flexibility required me thinks. Samaras should start every game now and we should go 4-3-3, I listed my preferred players for this the other day. Talking about holding the ball up, what we need is another Chris Sutton but if we go down the wish road we’ll get greedy and want another Henk!

I am speaking of the reasons as to what is wrong with this present Celtic Team..and why the G.A. is running such a successful run....from the Euro Cup to their total performance in the S.P.L.
Now,from what I can gather from your Russian Translated Piece ,concerning the reasons for the G.A.'s success in Europe...it looks like the Russian Reporter, is thinking along the same lines.
It is obvious... the G.A. have found themselves an excellent and wily Manager.
Meanwhile,back at the Ranch...
Celtic have found themselves a Manager, who has simply ran out of ideas.
I love Mr. Strachan... However, mebbbe the time has come for Mr.Strachan to take another look at his 4-4-2.
They say that was the Reason for the eventual Downfall of Napoleon...not that he used the 4-4-2 system,of course...It was because, He fought all his Battles, using the same Tactics...
He worked on the assumption.like ...it appears to me,anyway..the same assumption that has captured the imagination of Gordon,as well.
If it woiks... don't change...
We know bettah....don't we pal?
I myself am more into the Philosophy of MichaelAngelo...
( Whit's dat?...ed)( Read on, an' ah'll tell ye!)
Michael, once upon a time... very early in his career, entered a Country Inn,where he demanded a Flagon of wine..( Whit's a Flagon.?...ed)( I have no Idea...but whit ever they were... they are gone noo.... And tasting the taste... Michael was most displeased with the contents of the...well...the Flagon...which he immediately spat out...that is, the contents...no the Flagon...
The Inn-keeper, noticing that Michael did not seem to appreciate his home-made vintage...so... in order to Placate his now furious customer...
He said... somtwhat shamefacedly...
"I am sorry... but, this year's Vintage is a trifle sour... and does not meet with everyone's approval, but I have made so much... and if I can hang on... I believe that Next YEAR...the Vintage will be much Bettah!"
At that Michael... roared..... his famous advice...advice, that I have followed many a time....and has been a major influence in my success.
"If the WINE IS NOT ANY GOOD...

THROW IT OUT!"
Am I right?...or am I right,pal?

Best Celtic formation was 4-2-4 which quickly became 3-3-4 with one of the full backs moving up, the only exception was Cairney's pass tae big Tam that magical night in Lisbon when we became 2-4-4 but then we were on a calvary charge at the time.
However to do that you must have a strong central paring coupled with at least one full back who can also acomplish this.
For all of Tam's heroics he couldnae have done it without Ian Young/Jim Craig/Willie O'Neill/Davie Hay as well as Big Billy and John Clark/Jim Brogan.
This formation also requires wingers that can tear defences apart and strikers who don't try tae be fancy but just put he ball in the "onion bag" copywright Tommy Smythe.
That's the way we beat the original Cattenachio.
Also scoring goals is all about confidence and when a striker loses his touch/confidence then the only way he'll regain it is by playing games NOT sitting on the bench.
WGS knows how the game should be played, he wants us to do that but is being stifled by the siege mentality introduced to the game by the cardigan.
This is what he installed to the national side and it worked against better and talented sides than they were, however, it's short termism and talent will eventually prevail which has been proved by the national side sitting on the sidelines this summer.
It's time now for our players to rise to the occasion, the SSM has shown the way with his stance against any extension to the season.
Yesterday for all my pains I listened tae snyde more tae hear about the Maryhill Magayars taming the shrews, what caught my attention though was a failed Celtic Boys Club goalie and Michelle McMars Bar's boyfriend advocating that WGS should leave in the summer.
Whether he does or not this proves that they're running scared of the set up he has installed at CP.
Last week we cuffed their stiffs 4-1 going on 10, proving we have the brains and they have the brawn.
