SFTB :-)
It wasn’t recent, but my heart takes a while to forgive.
Deadly serious about my experiences of them. There is an assumption that ordinary creditors will get nothing, that the government doesn’t matter, and there is a focus on getting enough cash to cover their fees.
In my experience, administrators singularly fail to recover any money for ordinary creditors and get aggressive and abusive if a creditor suggests asks them to justify their actions.
They are a profession who fail more often to fulfil their objective than any other.
PJBhoy; polite version used.
-
I posted a link on the previous thread of the Boyle interview on radio Scotland.
The upshot is that BOTH Motherwell and Gretna will be unable to use Fir Park for at least a month.
Boyle Interview
It is in our best interests to have Gretna play their home game against us at Celtic Park.
That way we have the gate receipts in our custody until the game is played and Celtic fans are guaranteed a game for their ticket payment.
Time for a more professional team to take charge at the SPL.
oh and in case we forget
Smack Duffield as well.
'GG
-
Sounds cruel but they should stop this charade now and wind up Gretna, by keeping the life support machine plugged in they are just delaying the envitable. Gretna is not an investment bank that is in line to receive $200 Billion handout (that kind of welfare safety net is for only the mega rich).
Gretna is not going to survive after this season, pull the plug.

-
I cannot see rankers fans being happy about us playing Gretna at CP. They'd probably force the game to Hampden to get the crowd size advantage without the home venue advantage.
Any views, EU or govan rear?
-
Can these guys make a difference ?
-
The administrator's responsibilities are clear, love the line about streetwalkers. Paul.
But what is the SPL's responsibility in all of this? Surely to remain a member of the league Gretna has to be able to demonstrate that it can fulfill its remaining fixtures? If not, then stop throwing good money after bad.
It's ok to say we get an extra home game but we still need to pay for tickets as fans, and they might still go bust and have the game rendered null and void at a later date. Apart from any bookings or injuries picked up of course.
And would a rearranged fixture at Celtic Park count as a home game for us? If Gretna do survive to the split at least, then that is a question that could have a real bearing on the title.
-
Paul
You seem to have suffered at the tender mercies of administrators.
So I have a couple of questions. They may be more in the domain of the accountants though.
Should Gretna be unable to fulfill their game against us, are Celtic not legally obliged to hand the administrator any money collected for match tickets?
Has there been any action from Rowan Alexander to recover the 800k owed him?
Had I been owed that kind of cash, I would have moved before now to wind them up.
As regards players. It's unlikely from the sound of things that any deductions made for tax or insurance has actually been paid.
So are the players still liable for the payments?
'GG curious.

That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.
I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
That's life
I tell ya, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die

Arsenal struggling to break down the famed Wattienaccio as demonstrated by Boro.
1-0 down in the 78th minute.
-
SFTB, Rangers fans do not have a say in this one; this morning the administrator had two choices, Fir Park or CP.
Gordon J, a ‘home’ fixture at CP would almost certainly provide them with enough cash to get to the end of the season.
‘GG, no, Gretna would only be entitled to cash for tickets for the Celtic game if the fixture was fulfilled. Celtic would be within their right to refuse to pay for a game that did not happen.
Celtic fans who purchased tickets would be creditors and the administrator (then liquidator) would be pleased to see Celtic refund any creditors.
The players are still due wages, I believe.

Sounds an horrendous mess, even worse than I thought. I was of the opinion that we should let Gretna go to the wall as it was to our advantage. I feel now it would be to the advantage of Gretna that they be put out of their misery as soon as possible. Their debts are not managable and will only deepen over the remainder of the season. The SPL should force the administrator to foreclose NOW, by refusing to give them any funding, which might well disappear down some black hole. Any monies that come their way is not going to seen by their supporters or the players. It is already spoken for by the likes of the Inland Revenue, as Paul says.
-
According to the BBC report on today's game the Gretna players were playing without insurance. Is this allowed? Doesn't the club have a duty of care to its employees - or does the fact that they are effectively volunteering to play after their contracts have been broken make it their own liability?
It would be awful if any player picked up a serious injury in this situation.
-
Too bad the game was off, I hurried home to sit before the computer and ….aw naw. Must be bad when you have actually paid in advance to get to the game. Time and money down the drain.
Gretna can count themselves lucky that they may play at CP. Not to do so would be simply bizarre.
-
GordonJ
Yes, and that is apparently the reason some senior players such as Chris Innes have refused to play.
I think Narrowboat is dead right and euthanasia is the most sensible option. The week-to-week, hand-to-mouth existence is not sustainable for a professional football club. The football agent who is trying to put together a consortium, plus Roddy Collins, who is apparently heading an Irish consortium to purchase, want their heads examined. Kojo may tell us it ould be a good time to buy, but surely it doesn't apply to Gretna.
Bloke109, who the other day, purchased a ticket for the Gretna game.
Martin Bain took time off the sunbed to say, on the BBC site:
"I've heard suggestions of the Motherwell home fixtures against the Old Firm being played at Ibrox and Celtic Park but that is something we would resist.
"I don't think it is right to take advantage of the disadvantaged."

does he even have 2 choices....if you were the Chief exec of motherwell would you be prepared to let grtena play on your pitch, given that motherwell are likely to be a creditor...i would be amazed if gretna have paid motherwell full rent for the use of the ground so far ......
anyone else will want paid in advance or a guarantee from the administrator that he will pay them in full, which would rank them ahead of the revenue....which is not possible.....this game has to go on at parkhead, which is unfair in a sporting context....the spl have reaped what they have sown.....the sfa show all the signs of making the same mistake if either celtic or rangers don't make it to the scottish cup final...we face the farce of scotland being potentially represented by QOS in Europe

Will the Arsenal Quick News site be going into overdrive to have Wenger sack. When was the last time Arsenal won a Trophy? From day one ,i have doubted Mr Wenger.
It has always been my belief that when he got rid of Bruce Riochs's team ,that we would be left with a much poorer side.
I have tried to balance my negative thoughts against the fact that even if George Graham had still been in charge ,he would also have had to reduce the wage bill.
The thing is ,given the exact same budgets ,i think that George Graham would put together a better side than Mr Wenger.
Mr Wenger has built a side with very little physical presence. We are vulnerable at set pieces and pose little threat when we have them.
Hleb apart, we pose very little threat from pacey players.
Standards are all about perspective.
My perspective is that compared to most of the good sides, that i have seen in the last 35 years.
Our skillfull players lack physical presence and heart e.g. Clichy.
Our hardworking players lack technique e.g.Fabregas.
Our Central defenders lack aerial dominace e.g. Senderos against Miller last week.
Our fullback's strengths lye in attack and not defence.e.g Flamini, and Eboue.
Our hardworking fowards lack composure.eg. Adebayor.( who has been a very good signing despite his failings)
Our composed players lack endeavour.e.g Aliadierre( i know he has now gone)and i fear the same with Rosicky.
I could go on forever, but we are about to lose the league to a side ,that has a much better physical presence.
They have a better structure to them. They have a team that will beat us ,more than we beat them,in a dogfight.
We have had a similar budget to them .Sir Alex has built a better TEAM,on similar money.
Mr Wenger has had a lot of rope ,he is hanging himself with it.
This is the first year that he has had to compete with a serious consistent opponent, and he is failing.
United will win the league ,despite having much more fixtures to contend with.
In my book they are strong favourites to do a .Infact my best hope is that DC can cause an upset on Saturday.
This is possible because they have a manager who know's the physical importance of building a team and being able to nullify and create a goal threat from set pieces.
Davie Moyes is the same.
I am sorry but until Mr Wenger realises this, we will play second fiddle to sides built by Sir Alex
You have to win your individual battles all over the park.I am afraid we do not have enough players capable of doing this.
The recruitment of the players lyes at Mr Wengers door.
If United win on Sunday they will do the double.
This is not what i would call a GOD.
There are many who have slaughtered me.There will be much more after this rant.
There will be those who say that, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.
Whilst many have had there heads in the sand, and have been blinded by success during a period of almost no competition .I have never been fooled.
The time is coming where all my fears will come home to roost.
I could not be more gutted.
What is coming was all so avoidable.

Paul - an engineering company I helped to start up was eventually put into administration after myself and some of the other guys left.
The administrator charged a whopping £200 per hour and eventually racked up a £75K bill. How any bean counter can justify that is totally beyond me. Money-grabbing scum!

Rangers chief executive Martin Bain said the "sensible solution" was to play Motherwell and Gretna's games at Hampden.
"I've heard suggestions of the Motherwell home fixtures against the Old Firm being played at Ibrox and Celtic Park but that is something we would resist.

My, oh my. This whole farce is taking place within the context of of the country's top league, which supposedly represents our national sport.
Is it any wonder we cannot attract decent talent to Celtic Park?
Those in charge of the game, both at admiistative and club level are simply not fit for purpose.
Ironically, someone earlier today was lambasting Kojo for his views on market forces and what is going on in the banking sector.
Look in front of your eyes fholks -market forces are wiping out Scottish football because it it run by a bunch of charlitains.
That Scottish football finds itself in such a position comes as no surprise to me. What had me choking on my vino was Paul's assertion that Rowan Alexander is owed £800k.

I think that Rowan Alexander's £800,000 is a "claim" and not a confirmed liability. The Inland Revenue are no longer preferred creditors but how on earth were Gretna allowed to run up such a debt. As a one man business with two employees it would take me 30 years to run up such a debt. I think I will give it a try!
-
Paul67
I am not sure on this but I thought the Government changed the rules on liquidation and the Inland Revenue (or HMRC as they now are) no longer hold preferred creditor status.
Preferential status was transferred to employees.
If so, then for Rowan Alexander the prospect of liquidation for Gretna might actually get him his money unless the liquidators could show good cause for disputing his claim or the fact that he is not currently an active employee might hamper that claim.
I am with you and your Dad on this, the whole administration/liquidation process is one licence to print money for those registered as insolvency practicioners.
Anyway the whole sorry mess again proves how much of a farce the SPL is. Just as well no-one in Europe takes any notice.
Only 12 clubs in the league and we make this utter botch of it.
