Health and Safety at Celtic Park

From my seat at the back row of the North Stand you can look out over Glasgow and beyond; on a clear day you can see for over 10 miles into the distance.

As I looked out from my seat on Tuesday evening and viewed the storm damage to the Lisbon Lions stand I recalled the damage to the same stand in 2000, a couple of hours before a Scottish Cup tie and wondered if enormous, modern football stadiums like Celtic Park present a new health and safety challenge.

The winds on Tuesday evening were not particularly severe, but they were strong enough to cause structural damage, and at football grounds with stands as high as Celtic Park, this presents a real safety issue.

I have never known a football game to be cancelled due to high winds, but I would rather that than risk sheet metal falling on top of me.

    From previous,

I do want the Fod to lose. It would mean that the juggernought that they have become have burst a tyre, and are about to pull into a lay by to think again. Once they lose today, they may get into that losing feeling.
That’s how I feel about it – get them beat.

I'm scared to post this off incase I cause them to score :-)

    HHBhoy....Completely agree.

Paul67 suggested that Rangers biggest asset right now was momentum. Two successive defeats and an end to their treble "dream" could well put paid to that - as well as injuries, suspensions and fatigue.

We still have to do our bit though and I'm worried that with so little of the season left, Strachan still hasn't found the best balance in midfield.

That penalty in the 2nd half was as blatant as you could ever imagine, yet nothing given. At that point, United were on top and Rangers were getting frustrated and running out of ideas. It was a huge decision and he knew it - he was standing in the perfect position to see it, so why was it not given?

Just can't believe that happened, the poorer team on the day won. Two awful goals for United to lose. Unfortunately, they seem to be getting gifts at the moment when they're not creating anything themselves. The momentum theory certainly rings true. That's both the Bremen tie and this one that they won not through creating anything themselves, but by the opposition who completely outplayed them, gifting them the game.

Surely this can't continue, but I'm certainly very worried for the rest of the season...

Congratulations to a team who have won sweet fa for the last 2 seasons. A CIS cup win. Fantastic. Fantastic for Walter and Ally, for Boydychenko....sorry, Lent is the time for ecumenism. But I do want to congratulate Mr Clark. He should have a big sip from that trophy.

Have you ever witnessed a more "stick-on" penalty ?! Neil Lennon would argue he has (but technically, he was a victim). How is it that Lee McCulloch manages not only to last 90 minutes but the whole of the match. His blatant kicks at Flood deserved a red. He's not just late, he's intentionally late. You can see it in his face.

My sympathies are with DUtd. They played well. Unfortunately they didn't threaten the goal enough in the 2nd half. But I thank them most of all for this - a timely reminder that the mob are pretty rubbish and are there for the taking.

    Bring it on!

There have been a couple of references above on CQN to a BBC column authored by Chick Young.

I've just read it and am astonished that the blatant bias against our club has just been raised at least two notches.

This is the link for the fud's column. My understanding is that the word 'fud' is acceptable on CQN. It certainly has been in the past and I hope Paul67 will take a lenient view in the circumstances if he has changed his view.

Can you imagine the outcry if Graham Spiers had described David Murray as an awful man?

Ironically enough, after the fud wrote a surprisingly decent article after the tragic death of Phil O'Donnell, I was the first to post a link, subsequently 'headlined' by Paul67.

Quote from the Guardian's minute-by-minute match report:

Rangers: the quintessential British club. That's the slogan on a banner running across the front of the Rangers end. What do they mean by British? Insufferable and pompous?

    Amongst other things mate...

As the great Johnny Lydon said "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Cue Anarchy with decisions like that.

And their description of the penalty:

53 min: A couple of hectic minutes for Kalvenes, right there. Cuellar brushes him off the ball in his own area; it should have been a penalty, as the big galoot's shoved him right over! It would only have been more obvious if Barry Ferguson was on all fours behind the Dundee United player in order to assist the comedy fall. The ref isn't having any of it, for some reason.

I think Chico was describing PL as "an awful man" in a Dick Emery sort of way (There's one for the older viewer!!).

I don't think he was literally decribing him as awful.

Today was another bad day for us.

Had we won that game on penalties like they did we would have been glorifying our resilience, tenacity and mental strength.

I cannot believe how people on here can write them off so easily.

There are two sides to everyones brain.

One side is run emotion, and the other on intellect.

The thinking side of my brain believes that the Darnel will win the league.

This is not a stupid conclusion at this point in time.
    Check the bookies odd's.

The emotional part of my brain has not thrown in the towel.

I still live in hope ,despite thinking that it is unlikely, that we will win the league.

    I am applying unbiased logic.
I am not letting my love of Celtic cloud my thinking.

I still hope and pray that we see the comeback of all comebacks.

I do hate rangers and all they stand for; so, I guess that clouds my judgement big time but can anyone explain to me how the referee did not give a penalty to Dundee Und when Cuellar keelhauled the man in the box? We're told we're paranoid but decisions like that seem to be handed to them on a plate. We have had some stonewall penalties denied us this season but THAT ranks with the best of them. Utterly unbelievable decision by the official.

Frank, if we had won that game in that manner, with that assistance, there would be the mother of all inquests going on right now.

They are resilient, like a weed. Tenacious, like a parasite. Mentally strong? Let's see...

    tinytim ...

we know you think rangers will win the league...you remind the rst of us about that in almost every article that Paul posts...doesn't matter if the topic has nothing to do with who will win the league....

we get it !! you think Rangers will win the league....

now is there any chance you could drop it for the rest of this season...there is a very fine line between repetition and tedium .....
