Aiden and Naka behind a striker
SB,PH and BR in midfield
my striker would be Samaras , as i think he has the best movement of our strikers
plenty of bite in the middle of the park and movement upfront
going with 4-4-2 we are too predictable and lightweight in midfield ....we must change as 4-4-2 ain`t working

We need to get stuff like this into the media so that no decision is taken to favour them. They asked for a game to be postponed and that is now coming back to haunt them.
The season cannot be extended anywayas Euro 2008 starts in early June. How would we look to the rest of Europe if we cannot sort out our league to finish in time?

We also had to play the forces of Darkness 2 days after a Eufa cup game. (Boavista?)
The game with the beach balls and Sombrero's I think. Happy memories.
If they are good enough, they will win. No establishment favours please.

Hail, hail,
It's good that PL is setting out Celtic's stall before any moves are made to swing things in favour of TFOD in terms of fixtures.
There is also some retrospective irony in the fact that some of the fixture pile-up comes from Rangers requesting a postponement of their match against Gretna to help their European campaign.

I just checked. We played Boavista on the Thursday and then kicked off against TFOD at 12.30 on the Saturday, about 38 HOURS after playing a game in Portugal.
And we still beat them.

Celtic being forced to play a game just hours after a trip abroad is nothing new.
In January 66 Celtic's return trip from Kiev was delayed due to bad weather.
The team arrived in the early hours of Saturday morning and were forced to play a game at Tynecastle despite a request to postpone it.
We lost 3-2.

Oh meant to say
The seachange in manner of the Govanites at my workplace after their draw was very, very interesting to witness.
Two guys in particular went out of their way to, not apologise per say for the ribbing they gave me re the dons game but more in regards to their manner of smugness in awaiting a 'skelping' of the jags...
They are getting to worried - up until the Thistle game they could only concieve of the finals they would be playing in - for that is how they talk.
Now they are worried about if they'll actually get to them.
But they are still too wrapped in themselves to see what their fixture pile up could mean to us.
Ten games left!

My own view on the fixtures is that the most important factor may still be who plays their final game at home.
In the last 2 tight seasons (2003 and 2005) weve had to go away on the final day and lost out on both occasions of course.
I'd as good as bet my house it'll be the same this year.
A huge advantage which could be handed to them no obvious bias.

Actually the terms snake mountain and grey skull both come from the cartoon He-man (which I admit I loved in my Youth) It is a common misconception that greyskull is where the baddies lived because it sounds like a bad name, in fact greyskull is where the goodies live, so why would you wanna use the goodies residence to describe that lot?
Now Listen to the words LOL

The point about the Saturday game after the Boavista away tie was that the spl chose it to be like that. They set the fixtures at a time it was known we would be in the semi final.
I'm on record as saying the split is ridiculous and one of my objections is that it allows the league to pick and choose fixtures at the end of the season.

To achieve that they would have to play 3 of their 4 preceeding games away from home with us playing 3 at home ....the last game might not matter ....hopefully

I have a feeling that precedent will have a large say in whether the league allow Rangers to extend the season.
Does anyone have information from other countries where teams have played three games in a week?

Late catching up with the "clique" comments, and without enough time to scroll back and see what was actually said -- I can testify that, as no more than an occasional visitor from darn sarf, on the three occasions I've made it into BBs so far I've been made most welcome. While some of the guys obviously knew each other, there was nothing closed about the group at all; it was a warm unfussy welcome and I felt at home there.

I recognised myself in the sentiments you expressed as I too believe there is a "different" type of supporter following the club now.

Around '98,Did we not play In Eastern Europe -can't remember the team, maybe Batumi or Kosice- on the Thursday night and then played Motherwell at 3PM on the Saturday. Some of our players did not get home til noon on the Friday.
We dropped 2 points in the league game drawing 1-1,with Phil O'Donnell scoring for us.
I totally agree that we need to highlight as many of these cases as possible in order to stop Wattie getting his wish in extending the league.

I blame Thatcher for the type of supporter we have today. If in doubt always blame Maggie, it works for me.
Everything is about instant gratification nowadays. It is all about what have you done for me lately.
How some supporters have the cheek to sing the 'Celtic Song' with the lines 'We don't care if we win lose or draw,
Darn the hair do we care'
There is an excellent article on ETims about why the attendances are getting low at CP, (skip the wee dig at CQN and Generation of Dominoes on it), I concur with their findings that it is not as some would have said it is WGS or the Economy fault. While you are there there is also a good article on the SSM statement today.

Did anyone hear Newsdrive on Radio Scotland tonight? It was classic. They were discussing the human embryo/animal cloning issue and someone had texted in to say that it was nothing new they'd been mixing animals with humans at Ibrox for years! Abeer Parkes read it out and was clearly flustered for the rest of the programme as the producers shouted into her ear. It was very very funny.

Hail, Hail,

You obviously are a man of sincerity with regards to matters of the Faith, and an example to all, whether they have faith or not.
Anyway..
I've just read GS on the BBC, and do you know what...he's right.
We've only got 10 games to go. If we play these 10 SPL games in the right manner, we'll be OK
So this is the plan..
Barry Robson and Paul Hartley in the midfield. two guys that'll give the team a bit of attitude, and in Robson, a goal threat.
Who'll play with them? Aiden McGeady and Scott Brown, with Nakamura as an 'impact' player.
Don't get me wrong, Naka is great, but we need a bit of aggression for the run in. Not Naka's style, and unfortunately, not Donati's either.
Upfront? JVOH and Samaras. Skippy needs a rest. Let the the lanky continentals have a go, and if it isn't working, McDonald can come on in last 30mins and run at tired defenders.
At the back? O'Dea should get a game and somebody has to say to McManus and Caldwell keep it simple. If Brown plays, give the ball to him, creative midfield player, remember.

Gordon if you look at the posts on the site.
"GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE CLOUDS AND BRING BACK BOBO ASAP"
You want 30 points from the next 10games, you might want to open up your eyes and see what everybody else is seeing. To win this league you need fighters.
Re instate Bobo to give you that presence we badly need at the back.
Play the contender for player of yesr up till January when you purchased him.You need fight in the midfield as well. Play Hartley, Brown and Robson with one of Naka and Aiden.
Upfront give Sammy the nod because after assessig Weir and Cuellar he will destroy them with his movement.
If you are still around next season which hopefully you are, you need to think seriously with regards your selection policy. Find a consistent midfield instead of chopping and changing. Find a new captain and buy two good quality centre halves. They are out there you know for knockdown prices if you look hard enough.
From my point of view Team 1 has been the best with the exception of Mo Camara you had. Excellent football that season as well as fighting spirit. Best game had to be the Benfica game when we seen a glimmer of the type of football you wanted to play. Never seen it since.
Screw the nut!!

Bloke, stunning.
Inkybhoy, I have yet to meet a Celtic fan who disagrees with playing Vennegoor and Samaras up front.
Hartley, Robson, Brown and McGeady would/might have a bit of bite about it too, but I am likely to agree to any midfield combination that has not been tried and found wanting.
Sean, no info on Bobo.
-
I would also like to see Jan and George up front but it's hard to imagine leaving out our top scorer. Scott has been poor in recent games but who's to say he's not going to bounce back against Gretna, he'll be itching to get back on the scoresheet and there isn't going to be a better game for recovering his confidence.
-
-
Paul67,
Regardless of what happens this season. Do you see WGS kicking around next season for another tilt at the CL?
Althoug he has frustrated the living hell out of me this season i hope he does. I would like to see him finally get his vision right. Although if he can't make the right decisions with regards personnel and ignores our weakneses it doesn't help.
Message to Laporta. Tell him when someone new does come in be (hopefully not for another wee while yet). Make sure that little scrot Peter Martin etc.. doesn't get a chance to get all nice and friendly again us because we acquired someone new. There attitude towards our club and manager has been nothing short of a disgrace.
-
what about just taking brown out of the midfield equation at the moment. He is in dire need of being rested, it will either rejuvinate him or give him the kick up the backside he needs.
He has been anonomous/ineffective/culpable in all bar a handful of appearances this season.
At present he cannot retain possession, he has a poor touch he cant pass a ball 5 yards, and paddy power pay out every game before the kick off that he will pick up a silly booking, at the minute he is THE fatal flaw in our midfield and it astounds me that he continues to be picked. He needs dropped for his own sake. At present he is the only player that is not groaned at during game by "the faithful", I have no doubt about his efort. But as someone at a course told me the other day, its not about being efficient its about being effective. At present he will run all day for us but he is certainly not effective.
Try combinations without him and I'm sure we would improve immensely.
The boy has a big future with us hopefully but at present he isnt contributing and it is doing him and us no good to keep persevering.
-
13.55 last thread Stair Mha Chrol those videos summned up why we will win the league.
Arthur and Naka are the only two players in Scotland that could make a difference in any game and i include a world cup final.
Aiden is not far from that.
15.51 True Tim i like reading stuff that i hadn't considered myself good stuff especially re Samaras.
16.05 Setting Free the Bears agree with your observation re Naka and his floating role from the other night. The first time the team clicked on to Naka's pass and move style was a 5-0 drubbing of Livingston at Almondvale, more of the same please for Sunday.
Inkybhoy the only game i would leave Naka out of is the huns game at Ibrox even then i believe he is capable of making an impact from the bench.
I'm going out for a beer and will leave you with a couple of observations and and a link.
When you hear/see the word 'momentum' being used disregard it, its as transitory and insubstantial as confetti at a wedding.
'Psychological advantage' another phrase that means nothing as your foot goes on to the grass.
This video is poor but the song makes the hairs on my arms and neck stand up,the best live song ever.

I would like to see Wilson giving a try in the midfield he played well there for Dundee Utd a few years ago and he has a bit of aggro too. Get players in there that knows what it means to put on the Hoops jersey.
The Gretna game should be a walkover, this is the last time to experiment with the midfield, after Sunday's game if WGS does not know what his best combination in the midfield is god help us. I will scream my head off if WGS starts a Naka-Skoosh- Donati - Aiden combo in the midfield on Sunday. I will go to the local ironmongers to see if the sell picks, shovels and miner hats. Do they still take canaries with them down into the pit?
Win 10 games
Win the SPL
It's that Simple
Mon the Hoops
-
Paul67,
That midfield suggestion rests on the presence of Hartley playing a Lambert/Lennon style role breaking up opposition play combined with Robson.
These two would give SPL experience, ie two guys that have had to fight hard battles, because that is what our 10 remaining games are going to be, particularly the three against TFOD.
3inarow makes a good point about Brown. Perhaps he does need a rest. I was very pleased by his signing, but to be fair, he hasn't been at his best recently.
Does anybody remember last season's CIS cup final? Brown ran the show as he had done in so many games for Hibs last season, but he is still a young guy, coming into Scotland's top football club.
How many of you could settle with a £4m price tag on your head?
Yes, he could do a bit more, but I'm still glad he's a Celtic player.
Sean
I've got no doubts about Skippy's desire, but he's well clear at the top of the SPL scorer's table and resting him wouldn't do him any harm.
If it doesn't work out for Samaras and JVOH after the first hour, McDonald will be only to happy to come on and run amok surely?
STILL STANDING UP

Martin42 @ 18.00
Excellent words. I'll certainly add my own weak efforts to that cause.

It is interesting that the SPL bent over backwards to accomodate Rangers when they were supposed to be playing Gretna then Lyon a few days after. We all know how that turned out. I hope to see the same sluggish, anti football from Rangers tomorrow as i've seen in their last 3 matches and if Hibs play the match in the same manner as they played against us in the first half at Easter Road recently then points should be dropped.
-
Narrowbhoat,
Who would your midfield for Sunday be?
STANDING UP
-
i maybe didnt make it clear in my post but i am glad scott brown is at celtic and think he will come good. However with 10 to go we need players NOW, not someone who will come good next year.
To take a positive from midweek, in periods best non european/rangers game atmosphere for years, maybe some of the fans had replaced some of the customers who couldnt be bothered coming to the game, whatever the reason the crowd were up for the fight it seemed (at least in patches) more of that togetherness and keeping gripes we have about certain players (donatti in particular who everyone in the surrounding blocks seems to have real hate for) confined to the pubs and buses and left at the turnstiles or CQN. We could spend all day discussing the merits of players.
I persoanlly think brown should be rested. However if he is there Sunday i will be shouting myself hoarse encouraging him, thats our job as supporters. And this year as a suppporter we have been derelict in our duties. We have been a poor excuse for a support.
We know what we're up against, we know the injustices we will face. Its the same as it ever was. It just makes the end more sweeter.
We are proud of our reputation as supporters. If we're honest that tag ended not long after seville. lets try and recapture it again and demonstrate to the players the passion and commitment that is expected as a given to those lucky enough to represent us all in the hoops!
We are all proud to call ourselves celtic supporters. lets step up to the plate and stop taking it for granted. We have been complacent, how many times have we been a factor in performances and revivals in our history. the support in its form this year, can we honestly say the way we have supported has made a difference at games?
I dont think so but we have 10 games to improve that. Maybe it might just inspire those on the field and might be enough to get us over the finishing line.
-
I would like to see our team along the lines of
Boruc
Hinkel BOBO McManus Naylor
Samaras Brown Hartley McGeady
Vennegoor McDonald
The reason being
Bobo - to get match fit before next week as another option
Samaras - seems to like coming in from the wing. Would also allow us to switch to 3 up front or JVOH & Samaras up front with Skippy just lying off the front 2.
We need a big result on Sunday for confidence plenty of goals for the GD.
-
I'm gonna be controversial and suggest we stick with the same midfield. I'm of the opinion that if our strikers took one of their many chances then we'd be praising the midfield for the way they controlled the match. It's probably the most possession we've had all season. I'd be happy with the same performance with our strikers taking their chances.
-
3inarow,
I wasn't meaning to suggest that you weren't happy to have Scott Brown in the Hoops. You and me are singing form the same hymn sheet, my friend.
Resting him is a fair shout, but I think that playing with Hartley and Robson would be good for Brown. A bit of experience to complement youthful exuberance perhaps.
Throw Aiden McGeady into that midfield, and with apolgies to Terry O'Neill, have Naka on the bench, ready to come on in the event of a game-changing substitution being needed, and I think that you have a resolute and determined midfield that could boss any game we play in.

-
Paul,
You forget one thing in all your leading post.
Gordon Smith.
He wants things to change - he wants to make a stand on some major issues.
He let rangers postpone a game back because it was for the 'good' of Scottish football - dont be fooled by past precedent - Smith will add time if he thinks fit.
He will say after his 1 week extension that he cant have Scottish football being laughed at in European football by making rangers play 4 games in 8 days.
Believe me - he doesnt want Celtic winning this years championship and there is nothing you or I can do about it.
-
balla
I can only assume it's an improvement introduced by Blogger to persuade P67 to stick with them.
Now we all get a chance to delete EDB's posts :-)
-
WGS, I have no info on the plans of your namesake. Like you, I hope he stays; changing manager is a highly dangerous thing, it is easier to make a mistake than get it right.
I too disagree with his team selection (often), and I think he makes mistakes, but they all do.
I actually find myself reluctant to publicly take his selections to task as any time I do someone asks if I am wanting rid of him. These are the times we live in.
3inarow, we have clearly not seen the best of Scott Brown this season, he has performed well below expectations. How and when this will be remedied, as I am sure it can be, I don’t know.
Balla, hmmm. Is EDB hiding behind you couch?
Ticketyboo, although Gordon Smith is at the SFA he does indeed have a say in how this pans out. He appears to have insisted that the cup games are given precedence over the league games.
Rangers will play Partick when the semi final was due to be played, but the semi has been booked for the following midweek. If a league game went ahead that day, the semi could have taken place on cup final day with the final moving to the Wednesday.
-
I would like to see: The HG, Hinkel, Mick, Bobo, Naylor, Robson, Broon, Zico, McGeady, Sammy and Jan on Sunday. The jury is out on Jan but he might work well with Sammy. Naka has looked a shadow of his former self since coming back from injury (apart from St Mirren). Tickety boo agree with your comments there seems to be a hidden agenda with the SPL and it's red, white and blue...
-
Inkybhoy
Robson Sno Hartley Aiden
Against Gretna you should be able to go with a 4-3-3 with either Naka or Aiden playing the third person behind Samaras and JVoH, This is an opportunity to run up the goals and improve our goal average.
I said I would like to see Wilson at some point of game either in for Naylor or in the midfield that is if he is fit. Could be a chance to play Mizuno. I mean if we can't hammer a team at deaths door like Gretna then maybe we don't deserve to win 3 in a row.
I have not giving up on Skoosh but for his own good he needs to sit and stew on the bench to rethink what it means to wear the hoops better still if I was WGS I would send him to sit with the support, especially as it is an away game, Bobo (Barca a few years ago wearing a Celtic scarf)did it I think that is why he doesn't want to leave that and maybe a nice weekly wage (I really have to stop being cynical it is the union rep in me)Other players have sit with the away support, they then see what Celtic means to us.
I would sit out Skippy, for the fact he is tired and he has to be more of a team player.
See this manager malarky is pretty easy stuff, I should copy this post and send it to WGS first thing in the morning before he tells the players who is playing.

Someone has to break the overwhelming sense of optimism that has dominated the blog in the last few days. Might as well be me.
Personnally, I'm still down after Tuesday and see no reason why my attitude should have changed.
I regard myself self as neither an optimist or pessimist. I believe I am a realist although I accept my perception of realism may differ from others.
I would be grateful if someone could explain to me why my outlook should have improved since Tuesday.
We have the same bunch of underachieving players and there is little sign that the manager is about to make the radical changes to team selection and structure necessary if we are to salvage the season.
I keep hearing on here that Rangers are rubbish and that they will drop points. Problem is I have been hearing that for months and it hasn't happened.
A number of people have invested their hopes and dreams on Hibs doing us a turn tomorrow. Why should we expect Hibs to do what we have failed to do on the last 3 meetings (I do not accept that last 2 matches of 2007/08 were meaningless, how did you feel those days ).
In any case, if you read the blog in the days preceding the hearts v rangers games you would have read the exact same things.
Unfortunately what will probably happen will be a 2-0 / 2-1 win for Rangers(some posters will undoubtably describe this as lucky/ referee aided or whatever comfort blanket people use).
We will win on Sunday but nothing spectacular and then to Ibrox.
Unfortunately, I see our season ending 'not with a bang but a whisper'.
I do not see any reason to be optimistic about our chances. If I take anything positive from this season it is that hopefully will banish forever the complacency that allowed us to get into the position we are in today.
That doesn't make less a supporter and certainly will not make me less vocal in my exhortation of our men it's just a view on how i think things will work out.
I'm off to seek solace in some Anchor Steam (catch whilst it's £1 a bottle at tesco).
cheers.......Frank

Hi Guys
I have not had a chance to post since Tuesday night, which is just as well given the way people were feeling, come Wednesday morning.
I have always been of a happy clapping disposition, on all things Celtic, However, our inability to break down the Aberdeen defence this week, dented my confidence that we could penetrate Watties Wonder Wall, especially at Ibrox.
If Gordon is going to persist with 4-4-2 then i would go with an all Scottish midfield of Hartley, Robson, Brown & McGeady. (Aiden’s a Scot to me)
I’d also go with the 2 big guys up front.
Scot, I believe, will have travelled halfway round the world by then, and will not be in any state for this game.
I have given up looking for other teams to do us a favour, so if anything gives this week-end then it will be a bonus.
After dropping points to Dundee Utd, I ex
