Time for the champions to stand up
Celtic must find the capability to fight for 90 minutes in each game, as though each moment was the last minute of injury time.
We must envelop Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday as though we were playing for the Champions League itself.
We must get frequent supply to the wings to gain the most from our aerial game.
We must find fire and passion, running and skill, hardness and passing, good passing, in central midfield.
Our defence and goalkeeper deserve credit for their record this season; the best in the league. They must improve.
Our exceptionally talented players must turn craft into great goal scoring opportunities.
Our movement off the ball must convince every spectator that each player has the hunger and desire to win.
Celtic Park must become an impenetrable fortress where all are cut asunder, and each away venue must become the scene of a magnificent Celtic performance.
Today, our league defence lies subjugated but not broken. Our destiny lies in our own hands, a position humanity has craved for, for centuries.
Meeting this challenge is only reason players should get out of bed each morning.
When the Celtic players and coaches look around their dressing room for the remainder of the season, they should see an unquenchable will to win. I am sure if they look to the stands they will see it from you and me.
If we do all this and still lose the league, which I do not believe for one second would happen, I will have no complaints.

We can celebrate, or mourn, later bhoys but for the moment, if I’m not mistaken, I think we’ve got ourselves a ‘square go’.
Maybe we’ll come through it winners, battered and bruised but winners none-the-less; maybe we won’t. But do you really want to be known as the one, that when four o’clock came, walked to the bus stop with the shadow of shame as his only mate. Missed the main event because you were too brown panted to face the demon of a fight?
And you dare to call yourself a Celtic supporter?
I’ve lost many a fight but always thought myself a bit of a winner, for the simple reason, come four o’clock - I always showed up.
I’d rather take a hiding fighting, than hold the hand of shame, in my fight to hide.
So excuse me if you’re not interested but I’m going to the fight. And I’m going to participate. I’m not going to stand in the circle that in its puerility chants, Fight! Fight! Fight! And never gets involved.
Naw, I’m going to be the nutter that gets stuck right in, fighting my fight, my cause, because there can only be one outcome.
And if I don’t achieve it, I’ll know at least, I, didn’t let, I, down.
Get out of your misery and get to the fight.
Now is the time.

A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship.
But it is not this day. This day, we fight!

I, for one, can't wait for our bhoys to take on the orcs. Payback for the last Old Firm game has been a long time coming, and I've got a feeling we'll be wiping the smirk from SuperSwally's face.

Can you just imagine how sweet it's going to taste when we win the league, when Craig Bellamy scored his finest Celtic goal and we went 5 points clear at the top nobody gave the huns a hope but big feckless kept them going right to the death, we are in a much better position with a much better squad. Now really is the time to Keep the Faith!!
I for one can't wait, it's going be sweet.

Exactly Paul. They say the prospect of hanging concentrates the mind. This season was about winning the league. It still is.If the players believe in themselves and the manager they have nothing to fear.
I know that Rangers have the advantage at present. But winning the league is about proving we are a better side.We have every opportunity to do so over the the remaing games. This is a defining moment for this team and the manager and they need and derserve our undivided support. In this situation we either hang together or hang seperately.
ps Stoir Mha Chroi .I have been missing Kilalba`s post...I think you come from the same stable...a good pedigree indeed.

Last night all I could post about the game was Not Good Enough.
I left Celtic Park last night looking for something to kick or punch - and I'm not a violent man. I was just so frustrated that we had left two points on the park. Two points that were there for the taking. Two points that make winning the title a little more difficult. Not impossible but more difficult.
Usually when we are in the position of looking for that famous Celtic late goal we are coming close, making chances and wearing the opposition down.
I am usually an optimist in that situation. But last night from around 70 minutes onward I just had the feeling that we were not going to score.
We have two trips to Fir Park scheduled for our next two games. Assuming both happen, six points are an absolute necessity. Our team needs to stand up and show the grit and resolve necessary at this time of year.
And then we need to leave Ibrox with at least one point.
If we can do that then the run in to the title will look a little rosier for the bhoys.

I never saw the game last night. I only listened to the 2nd half on BBC Radio Scotland. Where there was almost a verbal time countdown for the last 20 minutes. Crowd seemed up to it for me. I listened to a barrage of Celtic pressure. It could be worse we could be Barcelona and losing these games. Dont ask me why but when listening to the game last night the thought entered my head that young Aiden is using Cristian Ronaldo as his role model when it really should be Ryan Giggs.
Well It's Saturday night you're all dressed up in blue I been watching you awhile maybe you been watching me too So somebody ran out left somebody's heart in a mess Well if you're looking for love honey I'm tougher than the rest

The road is dark and it's a thin thin line But I want you to know I'll walk it for you any time Maybe your other boyfriends couldn't pass the test Well if you're rough and ready for love honey I'm tougher than the rest

Another fight a lot of good guys walked to. Just in case your misery has no quantification.

Adelante was the cry around the hillside
VIVA LA QUINCE BRIGADA
Chistie Moore
Ten years before I saw lhe light of morning A comradeship of heroes was laid. From every corner of the world came sailing The Fifteenth Inlernational Brigade. They came to stand beside the Spanish people. To try and stem the rising Fascist tide Franco's allies were the powerful and wealthy, Frank Ryan's men came from the other side. Even the olives were bleeding As the battle for Madrid it thundered on. Truth and love against the force af evil, Brotherhood against the Fascist clan. Vive La Quince Brigada! "NO PASARAN" the pledge that made them fight.
"ADELANTE" was the cry around the hillside. Let us all remember them tonight.
Bob Hillard was a Church of Ireland pastor; From Killarney across the Pyrenees ho came. From Derry came a brave young Christian Brother. Side by side they fought and died in Spain. Tommy Woods, aged seventeen, died in Cordoba. With Na Fianna he learned to hold his gun. From Dublin to the Villa del Rio Where he fought and died beneath the Spanish sun. Many Irishmen heard the call of Franco. Joined Hitler and Mussolini too. Propaganda from the pulpit and newspapers Helped O'Duffy to enlist his crew. The word came from Maynooth: 'Support the Fascists.' The men of cloth failed yet again When the bishops blessed the blueshirts in Dun Laoghaire As they sailed beneath the swastika to Spain. This song is a tribute to Frank Ryan. Kit Conway and Dinny Coady too. Peter Daly, Charlie Regan and Hugh Bonar. Though many died I can but name a few. Danny Doyle, Blaser-Brown and Charlie Donnelly. Liam Tumilson and Jim Straney from the Falls. Jack Nally, Tommy Patton and Frank Conroy, Foley, Tony Fox and Dick O'Neill.

Then came the songs from the stands, the "long" prayers. None could remember the likes of it for passionate pleading and moving and beautiful language. well put and i`m sure it`s how most of us feel
if our dressingroom/squad contains an unquenchable desire on Saturday it will be an evolution from last nights insipid , limp torpor
re the Gretna situation
many people are getting very excited about this surely it will simply give us more points but the huns another game in hand
that being said is it really that much of a boon as surely we would have beaten Gretna anyway ie on Easter Sunday we will have no game with the huns having played a game on Saturday

On this site, I have seen the following players criticised regularly: Sno, Caldwell, McManus,Naylor,Brown, Donati and JV of H. Additionally, I have seen Gordon`s head called for. I have, COINCIDENTALLY,seen the same players criticised regularly in the media in general.I am now trying hard to think of a current Rangers player (1st 11 regular) who receives any real degree of criticism in the media. I will tell you now; it is the same number as you hear their fans regularly criticise....NONE. Best fans in the world? X If you do not rate Sno,fine but don`t make unsubstantiated claims concerning `most` fans. I rate him but I haven`t a clue if I am in the majority or minority...neither do you. Paul,
A fine rallying call. However, I can't help feeling that our players should have had those thoughts in their heads before last night. The unpalatable truth is that today may be too late.
The question then becomes "why didn't they?"
A guy sitting near me last night was bawling, after about 20 minutes: "C'mon Celtic, how much do you want to win this league!!??" I thought, "Give it a rest mate, plenty of time..."
But by 70minutes I realised he was right. The players didn't look like they were playing as if the flag depended on it, they were flat and uncertain. They were unfocused, perfectly epitomised by Brown's ridiculous time-wasting booking in injury time.
They were directionless and leaderless.
I'm sorry if this is out of tune with a day of Braveheart rallying calls. But it is the scary truth. It seems to me that the players simply do not want the league as much as we do.
Again. "Why not?"
The inescapable, inconvenient truth is that our manager is simply failing to motivate and focus his players. They are not bursting a gut for him, running through the brick wall for him, going the extra Al-Pacino-in-Any-Given-Sunday inch for him...
Last night I think I witnessed the beginning of the end of Gordon Strachan's leadership of Celtic.
That, in itself, does not worry me.
What worries me is that he will leave with Them as champions.

the Rev was guilty of very clever cheating
i too saw the non corner to whuch you refer...in the next move DU were given a non foul and in injury time he managed to use up over 1 min in booking SB
the foregoing are merely examples of his persistent subterfuge
he was anti-Celtic the entire evening and just because he doesn`t send people off/make dodgy penalty decisions or disallow goals doesn`t mean he wasn`t influencing the game .....the naivity of those who think he had no influence is astounding

I left Glasgow in ’75. I was on my way as a kid to London.
My dad and mum saw me off at Glasgow Central.
My mum gave me a box of initialled silk hankies. (Why do women do that?)
Just as the train was about to leave my dad, who was a big Irish man wrapped his big arm around my neck and pulled me hard to his chest.
In my pocket he shoved one hundred pounds and two packets of smokes,
In my ear he whispered,
Keep the Faith
I promised I would and to this day in more ways than one… I have.
I too, come what may, Stand up... and will forever Keep the Faith. Both of them

My optimism has lifted a bit more than it was last night after the game.
When you look at it, it's very much in our hands, win all our games and we win the league. It's a cliche I know but we have a series of Cup Finals coming up which we MUST win. I just hope the malaise which seemed to be throughout the team last night for the vast majority of the match is banished.
The thing that worries me the most is that it's now the middle of March and we are now nowhere nearer knowing who our strongest centre-midfield pairing is. This is the area we must sort out to give us a better chance for the run-in. My opinion, I don't have a clue!
I didn't boo last night as I don't think it's right, but it's very easy to have a go at those who did, and it was very loud for the amount still there at full-time. People get caught up in the tension of it all and are letting their frustrations out. I just wish those that did had sung as loudly as they booed for all of the game, not just the last 15 minutes!
As tooheys_new said on the last post, it very much reminded me of the Hibs game at the tail-end of the Jansen season. It's funny cos when I was leaving the ground last night I looked at the railing I punched in frustration that day which left me with 2 broken fingers! If it could have guaranteed the same end result as that season I would have done it again last night!
On the Gretna situation I think it would be an advantage if we did draw level with rangers, albeit with them having 2 games in hand. Let's ask the question of them and see if they're up to winning the two matches. It would be the first semblence of pressure they've had to face for a while.

Paul 67,
I fear that the general wave of positive feeling following your post may be misplaced. Having been puzzled once again at the team selection and tactical decisions employed by the coaching staff last night (and for most of the season) I simply cannot see how Celtic can go the rest of this season without the regular failings reappearing. As the next 10 games have been labelled 'must win', in my opinion, these have to be won through gaining control of the midfield area and then playing our brand of football once this battle has been won. The central midfield has been an area of concern as noted by you in previous posts. The constant rotation of player in this area and the bemoaning of the inability of the team to retain possession or pass better is an admission by the coaching staff that all is not well. I do however feel that the problem is more that just the central area in terms of our style of play. The use of Nakamura, whose worth to the team cannot be denied at the right time, is becoming more of a luxury passenger as the weeks go by. His value can be used as much as a substitute either from a position of comfort in a game or as a key to unlock a door, such as last night, if needed. The one trick pony style of play from our midfield, with only Aiden McGeady performing at a consistent level, is the main reason for our obvious failings this season. At no time have we been able to put a consistent run of games together with a settled midfield. The influence that non flair players, such as Lennon and Lambert, in retaining possession and making simple but effective passes cannot be underestimated in the current midfield mess.
Turning my attention back to last night, I do find it hard to believe the reasoning, when chasing a crucial goal, that we replace the only striker on the pitch who appeared to have the desire and the first touch to make a difference. Scott McDonald for all his goals has looked both physically and mentally tired in recent weeks. The argument for a three pronged attack last night should also not be discounted, given the importance of winning our homes games. The results against Kilmarnock, St Mirren, Hibs and now Dundee Utd suggest that the European fortress mentality of the current squad does not exist at a more basic SPL level. The performance of Scott Brown last night, as for the most part of the season, was a disappointment. If this player is guided and coached properly, then his clear talent and passionate style of play can be channelled properly. Hopefully then the composure and ability to make a clean and crisp pass to a team mate will eventually become part of his armoury. I do not feel that simply spending £4.5 million on a player should justify his inclusion when free from suspension.
Unless therefore we insert a properly challened desire and strength in the central and wide midfield areas over the next ten games, then we can rest assured that we will finish second to an average and uninspiring Rangers team, whose manger has yet to revise his tactical genius in 15 years.
-
Gordon_J
If Falkirk stay in the top six we would play 18 home and 17 away with rangers the reverse. We have played 14 so far with 2 against Rangers, 1 against Motherwell and 1 against Falkirk. they would only have to face us, Motherwell, Hibs and Dundee Utd. That's all being if things stay as they are.
Somehow I don't think that scenario will be allowed to play out. As you point out though it gets messy if Hearts overtake Falkirk, though I think they would be made to come to Parkhead 3 times which has happened before to Aberdeen a couple of times.
-
Sorry, with the Gretna game taken away we've played 13. We would also have a home match v Hibs to play in adition to the ones I posted above.
-
Sorry - this is the correct scenario! (Thanks Mort)
---------------------------------- Would Gretna going out of the league benefit us? Well it would certainly benefit Dundee Utd whom they have beaten twice!
It would make no points difference at the top, as you would assume both us and them would beat Gretna in the remaining games.
But if you assume that all Gretna matches are ruled null and void, it would have an interesting effect on the post split fixtures in the top half.
In this scenario, 30 games would be played pre-split with both Celtic and Rangers having a 15 home/ 15 away split.
Now, let's assume Celtic, Rangers, Dundee Utd, Motherwell and Hibs make up the top 5, as sees likely.
The post split fixtures would then be:
THEM: Celtic (A), Dundee Utd (H), Motherwell (H), Hibs (A)
US: Rangers (H), Dundee Utd (A), Motherwell (A), Hibs (H)
But who gets sixth place? Well, subtracting Gretna results it looks like either Falkirk or Hearts.
If it is Falkirk then they would play Falkirk away, giving 17 home and 18 away fixtures.
We would play Falkirk at home, givng 18 home and 17 away.
BUT
If Hearts make the top six.
They would play Hearts at home, giving 18 home and 17 away.
We would play Hearts away, giving 17 home and 18 away.
So neither gives the top two an equal split of games. Given there is an odd number would the SPL just say that it was the luck of the draw, or would they muck about with the fixtures to give the top two the same split, probably to the detriment of other teams?
I think we should be supporting Falkirk over the next few games!

A stay of execution looks on the cards if a postponement of Saturdays game is allowed as they don't have a team to put out on Saturday.

Looks like Gretna will not play at Aberdeen on Saturday. They are effectively asking for a postponement, which the league would probably agree to.
The spl is putting up some cash tomorrow which won't even pay all the staff wages (including players).
They will then rely on our fans to give them enough money from the game Sunday week to limp on.
This is all short term crisis management. The club is over £1M in debt and losing money every week. Unless someone with very deep pockets comes forward in the next couple of weeks, Gretna will fold.
-
And what right was given you to tell anybody what they could, or could not say.
Are you the true oracle, the fountain of all knowledge or are you just another...
-
Just caught the Gretna press conf....no money as yet but maybe some tomorrow from the league, not enough players fit to put a team out on Saturday...however if this can be postponed they may be able to play Celtic next week and get BIG gate money.
Surely if they can't toe the line on Saturday then end story but no let them have one last stand against ...guess who?
-
If they don't have enough fit players for Saturday, waht makes them think they will have any more for the Celtic match.
-
Maybe, just maybe, we will lose out this year. I still don't believe it will happen, but I have to admit that it is a possibility. There is no divine right in sport, or in any other aspect of life. I love the spirit of most posters today as they/we try to WILL the outcome. Having better players, better supporters & a better run club should be enough to guarantee our success. If only it was that simple. So, while I am reluctant to contemplate defeat, if it happens I will have to 'accept the things I cannot change'. Having dealt with it over too many decades to contemplate should help. I have seen far better teams than the present incumbents taste bitter defeat. Recent successes should help to moderate the hurt,..but we are human & greedy. Our expectations have only been fuelled by the triumphs of recent seasons. As John Keats puts it,.. ' Until they think warm days will never cease, For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.' Maybe we have had TOO MUCH success for our own good. People who cannot accept defeat, don't deserve continued success. It might do us good to contemplate the wise words of old Omar,... The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it

Wee point of order....
You think should be able to post whatever you want. That's my view too, within the dual limits of legality and our host's in-house rules.
Surely, then, you believe Kojo should have the same freedom? Logically, that extends to him being free to tell you what you should or shouldn't post, if he feels like it. You've just done the same to him that you're complaining about him doing to you. There's a lot of that on here...
None of which, of course, is to say that you have to pay a blind bit of attention to him - or me, come to that.
-
The Gretna situation I think is a red herring. The administrator's responsibility is to minimise the losses of the creditors.
Consequently, they would not wish to fulfil the fixture this week as it would involve losing money having to pay players, logistical costs in getting to the game and then no receipts as it is an away game.
They then sit tight and put a team of unpaids (players will play to show themselves to new clubs) or youths against Celtic when they will be guaranteed a reasonable gate from our fans and rubber neckers wanting to see their last game and of course the TV money.
This is when it gets intersting. Given that will be the last time they play us and Them they will make losses for the rest of the season and the administrator would view that this would be the most appropriate time to shut the doors.
Thereby making all games null and void and our only carry over would be injuries, tiredness and suspensions.
Consequently, the SPL should be strong (stop laughing at the back) and insist that they have a commitment that is they allow the postponement of the Aberdeen game then all future games will be fulfilled. If the administrator agrees to this then it will be legally binding on the Administrator and his firm not Gretna.
I wait with bated breath.

A man who believes in capitalism and freedom of action for individuals might be expected to show more tolerance of others' viewpoints, if he wants to be seen as consistent in his beliefs.
Your thrown towel is noted.
As you think the league is a dead letter, you will presumably be heading down to the online bookies right now, to stake your mortgage on Rangers to win the league at 8/13.

We need an urgency to get on with the matter at hand and that is winning.
Two things stuck out last night, Aiden son you have immense talent, but I'm afraid you are falling back on old habits, trying to beat a man or men when you should pass and making attempts at goal that were never going anywhere. Scott Macdonald you are a goal scorer let someone else carry the ball, you cannot run through the opposition with it.
From what I could see last night DU never really threatened unless we threw up posession in midfield, so why did we not go with three up front and three at the back, it seemed the right time to do it.
Anyway, we will still win the league.

Artur - didnt have much to do
Hinkel - looking fitter by the game and unlucky not to score
Naylor - Played wth heart and looking more solid
Caldwell - Solid enough and kept passing simple
McManus - defensively sound but lacked leadership and didnt assert himself on the inefficient/ineffective midfeld
Sno - He is young , and youth brings inconsistency (some of the bloggers need a reality check on the expectations of our younger players) - good effort but didnt gel as much as previous games
Brown - Should have been pulled off at half time and replaced by hartley/Robson. Brown runs and runs and runs - we need more intelligence
Naka - put in some nice crosses from the right - but last night he would have been more effective in the middle linking with sammy and the midfield
McGeady - tried too hard at times - his crossing was rushed. We are asking/depending too much of him.
McDonald - worked hard, frustrated, complaning, nothing going for him, selfish - should have been replaced with JVOH
Samaras -i like his footwork and his areal threat. didnt get much service - would have liked to see hime with JVOH to get on the end of some of the crosses.
Referee - Had a very good game (surprisingly)
Strachan - Poor line up, slow to change it and made the wrong changes. At the end of the day , our second team should beat Dundee Utd who dod not threaten our goal much
Support - Quiet until the last 115mins - a bit like the players!
this far into the season - i get the impression WGS doesnt know his best team!!

Should Gretna contrive to have this weeks match v Aberdeen postponed, in order to limp on for another week to screw money from the Celtic support, then I think the SPL should resign en masse, with this year's competition rendered null and void.
Which would obviously mean that there would be no new champions declared this season and the flag will remain at Celtic park until it is contested again under the auspices of a revamped SPL.
The final league placings from last season will provide the entrants for next year's European campaign.
Sounds fair to me. Anyone agree?

My dear,dear,dear...old friend... NeilR
You sir, are one of the Giants of this Forum.
Your perspicacity and swiftness of thought are legend.
However...
I had no idea that you were also a no mean script-writer...
I may have the impulse to contact you later, on that very point...if the need arises..
One thing about being a dyed in the wool Capitalist.... which I happen to favour...is this....
What I do and what I say...are not mutually exclusive.
After all I am a firm believer in Self- Interest.
The Scenario that you have mapped out for me to follow... had in fact never occurred to my good self...
But, now that you have brought it up... it demands further investigation on my part....
As...as... you that remarked...
I am a Practicing Capitalist... after all.
Thanks for the tip.
Kojo. yer pal... who admires yer intellect...for I know a smart guy when I meet one..... and you, pal...are... Definitely, not a man...with whom one would wish to cross swords.
You are a real smart cookie!
-
Kojo,
Thrown in the towel,
You disappoint me.
The winning of the league is well within our hands and until we cannot win it, !!!!!
Throwing in the towel with 10 games to go,
NEVER.
STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS,
Martin.
-
Kojo,
Not only is he a real smart cookie,
HE WOULD NEVER BET AGAINST THE CELTIC.
STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS,
Martin.

Kilbowie Kelt
A fine post and I echo your sentiments.
-
Kojo i would not throw in the towel just yet.
Yes we are disorganised
Yes we lack a leader on the pitch
Yes the crowds are getting smaller and more scared as each game progresses and yes the huns are in the driving seat.
But we are celtic if we come together collectively we have a chance.
We must rally around our collection of individuals and try and create a team.
If we lose the league strachan goes but he can become a legend. Winning this one is the big time.
Strachan it's over to you.

Quiz
Name the player to score two goals in a European Cup Final on different days in the same game.
-
My dear,dear,dear,dear, friend... Martin
Sure I have disappointed you...and many others as well, I suppose.
Nevertheless, I am so,so,so,so... Disgusted with the present state of affairs at Parkhead on the Clyde.
As I have lately informed your good son...
I am about up to here..... with the rah rah rahing!
There are just so many times that one can beat a horse, before one realises......that...
THE POOR ANIMAL, IS INDEED... A GONNER!
In the matter of throwing in the Towel ....I am ashamed to do so....
There again...my common sense tells me that I must.
If I am premature...
Then by all means....I shall be the foist one to revert back to my normal optimistic self.
But Optimism... and 3 Bucks, will only buy a cup o' coffee at the local Starbucks!
As the Walrus said....Na!
Somebody else did....
"Time tae face the music.....!"
Kojo. yer pal...who hates tae disappoint..and is suitably ashamed to dae that, palomine.

Mmm Paul67,
Not sure what to make of your battlecry.
I for one never bought into your G-O-D theory. Far too complacent for me. You better believe we are in a fight.
SPL is about muscle first, not flair. Lets put this arrogance to bed now eh? Rangers are fighting on all fronts and doing exceptionally well. There is no Celtic dominance anywhere to be seen. They proved how much skill is required when they booted us off the park at ibrox.
You can throw as many statistics about referees as you like. The bitter pill to swallow was that we allowed that game to happen to us.
I am not a "mine shafter" or happy clapper. I am logical and honest. At start of season I claimed GS will be judged on this season alone as to whether he is good enough. The last 2 seasons I could have guided us to the title.
I am praying we come up with a solution. Robson is a MUST in every game for me.
Come on celtic, don't miss the chance to put a steak in the heart of the vampire

awe_naw is that a trick question because depending on where you are in the world any European Cup final could stradle two different days.
Failing that is it Roy Race ;-)
