The official site is publishing updates on the Youths match. Latest news is that the Hoops were 3-1 up with 7 minutes to go.

Youths final score - 4-1 to the good guys.
-
It has finished 4-1 for the young Bhoys! :-)
-
Great result for the bhoys. John McLaughlan was on Celtic TV the other night saying he anticipated a close game - games with Hibs had been 2-2 and 3-3. A team with character, and no little skill, by the sounds of things.
-
Can we get them playing for the first team for the remainder of the season then?
-
Good results from the u21, Sheridan got a hat-trick and Cawley getting the other. Sheridan has got a few goals since returning from long term injury hopefully he can get back to pushing his way into the first team. The girls hammered Hamilton 12-0 recently. Maybe we should get them in our first team.
-
U19 that should have been. Good to see them get into the semis and hopefully they can go on to win it.
-
Bhoy Sean
I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference from my vantage point up in the Gods.
Good to hear about Sheridan. He's been one of the precious few that's had a sniff of the first team. I don't ever see the reserves, but I'm guessing that makes him among the cream of that crop.
-
The arrests at Birmingham City were made after an examination of the club's accounts. A large sum of money had been removed and booked as 'compensation paid to the SFA for taking their manager'. Strathclyde police have confirmed that to the best of their knowledge, no such payments are ever made.
-
Benny Cake
I'm not too sure about Sheridan but he must have some talent if he got into the first team. I think it's partly down to his height, last year we were struggling when Jan was injured because Magic and Kenny were both pretty small so Sheridan was given a chance to play as a target man. He was not long at the club I don't believe before then but he went quickly from the u19 to getting a first team game so there must be something. He got an injury which put him out for a number of months but he's been back recently and he seems to be scoring whenever I see him. It's only the u19 though so he's still got a bit to go. He is a good all round player though. Scored a cracker last year which went on the website.
-
Bhoy Sean
I think he played in midfield when he got a game in the first team. Am I right in my recollection?
Verstatile. Perhaps a Sutton in the making?

Interesting comments re Mr Strachan but I think you're way off the mark re Keane as the next manager. By all accounts, he's very happy where he is. As for the "unnamed Irish sources", they're known as the Drumaville Consortium and their identity has never been a secret:

Ed - good to see someone from the other side [never mind a "neutral"] who can look at things with an open mind. Just don't get me started on the contrast in reporting re our scrape though 0-1 defeat away to Milan and the gers 0-1 scrape through defeat to Werder Bremen!
Let me state the obvious - there is absolutely no such thing as a neutral football writer. Rangers FC have the biggest support in Scotland (in terms of people who identify themselves as fans of that club if not through the gate). Therefore it is logical to expect that more journalists will favour Rangers than any other Scottish club. The demographic evidence is there.
However to state this simple fact is to betray PARANIOA
However [to plagiarise Tom Campbell] football reporters seem to constitute a curious mix of Celtic, St.Mirren, Airdrie, Hearts, Falkirk, Motherwell, St. Johnstone, Stirling Albion and even Shettleston Juniors supporters.
Not one with an allegiance to Rangers in over 100 years.
Allegedly.
My own view is that there is a Rangers pandering mindset in the media which is subconscious. It expresses itself overtly but the perpetrators [the hacks] accept it as conventional wisdom. No doubt there are also many who are overtly biased and pander to the agenda [e.g. Traynor letting Jock slander appear in his rag] This has festered over the years and is now at a point where journalists know what kind of reports will enhance their career. Mr Moonbeam also seems to weild undue unfluence over many in the media.
Most hacks don't necesarrily start out thinking "how can I get the boot into Celtic", however they simply can't help it, due to their own allegiances and the culture this engenders.
Keith Jackson's piece after our 0-1 defeat in Milan [I said I wouldn't go there!] - "Celtic staggered through thanks to Shakhtar/Celtic were rotten/Milan didn't care and rested half their team/Celtic will get pumped in the next round" - this was exactly the same almost verbatim patter I was hearing from my cream bun work colleagues in the canteen.
Keith Jackson reports as a partisan Rangers supporter would as this mentality is what is accepted as mainstream. 'Both are as bad as each other','Boruc is a lout','McGeady is a traitor','Walter is an elder statesman','McCoist is a loveable cheeky chappy'.'Strachan is a bad tempered git','Naka is a diver','Barry never performs below 8/10' etc. These are unquestionable truths among the media and to question them demonstrates PARANOIA.
Oh... you've carried out a statistical analysis of what we've published and used this to produce empirical evidence to support your assertions?
Well you are REALLY PARANOID!!

parkheadcumsalford @ 16:36...
Re the Hughes/Johnston incident, you are correct, they clashed just after half time with Celtic playing towards the Celtic end.
I was in the jungle that night and Yogi was booked in the first half for a foul on Jardine.
Jim Callaghan actually disallowed a Jimmy Johnstone goal in the first half too.
A recently written history of Rangers describes the incident...
"This match was as controversial as any and had long-term repercussions for referee Jim Callaghan. Celtic's John Hughes had already been booked. Then, involved in an incident with Willie Johnston, Hughes clearly struck the Rangers player. The referee did not see it, but a linesman drew his attention to the incident. Hughes should have been sent off, but Callaghan merely lectured him and allowed him to continue. The referee was subsequently suspended for eight weeks by the SFA,
Celtic won the game, the section and the League Cup for the fifth successive year."
No mention that it was Rangers who instigated the action.
-
I don't get the Keane thing at all.
He's done OK with Sunderland. Got them promoted, and probably has them safe enough now, and won't get dragged into the dogfight.
A record similar to the likes of Steve Coppell, Paul Jewell, Alan Pardew...(the list could go on), but I don't see any of these other guys being mooted.
Oh right, I get it. It's the Celtic-minded thing.
Keane was so Celtic-minded to state, and I paraphrase, "When I'm done playing at the highest level, I'd like to finish my career at Celtic".
Celtic-minded indeed!
Though no doubt when he's done managing at the "highest" level, he'd finish his managerial career with us.

TonyBananas :- Are you trying for entry to the long post clique :-)
I agree with you on the whole though I have to admit it's rather unfair that every other team in Scotland apart from Rangers has fans working as reporters ;-)
What I would say is that anyone should be able to come out and say who they support, whether it be Rangers, Celtic or in some cases some other team. However if they are sports reporters they should be professional enough to stop this from affecting their reporting. Sadly this never seems to happen.

Just back from CP, good game especially first half when the young hoops played some great stuff. Monti & Cawley were the standouts for Celtic along with the No. 6 in central midfield (don't know his name). Sheridan missed a couple of chances, took his goals well but looked slow and cumbersome like a young, slightly more mobile Big Jan
-
Neily,
No problem at all my good man, the Sunderland story was big news here which is why I knew who the investors were. Personally, I agree with the earlier post from Benny Cake re Keane. He used Celtic to satisfy his ego when by his own admission, his playing days were over. Now that he's managing, i'm sure he expects more loyalty from his players than he was prepared to give to some of his managers during his playing days. And as for professionalism, this is the man who missed a cululative total of over a season's football through suspensions. So as you can see, i'm not exactly a fan!!

This is not a vote for the Roy Keane for Celtic campaign but I think to question the loyalty of RK to his managers or his professionalism is a bit off the mark.
I can only really think of one manager he was disloyal to, Big Mick, and that was ultimately due to the lack of professionalism in the squad. You are obviously in the Big Mick camp, fair enough.
Not saying for a minute I want Roy , I'd have him ahead of our current incumbent though.
-

From what I know of him [Pendry], he played most of his playing days at Birmingham as a CB.
A fairly inauspicious playing career I think.
I'll ask why you're asking about it before replying upon a conclusion I could have jumped to.
However, it's worth noting the litany of great coaches and managers who had an inauspicious playing career.
PS: Try widening your search beyond Wikipedia ;-)

Regarding the biased reporting, The Not The View a couple of issues ago highlighted the difference in reporting of the Milan match this year when we qualified. Both reports were from the the same paper (The Sun if I recall correctly) only from different editions, one Scottish and one English.
The difference was remarkable. One had us a the jammiest team that ever lived and one was fulsome in it's praise of our achievement in qualifying for the last 16.
I don't need to say which edition was which.
-
Ed - Application for long winded clique duly submitted :0)
Tom Campbell also observed astutely that the main reason for the decline in the standard of written journalism is the advance of technology and that by the time the reader sees the match report they have listened/seen the game on radio/TV. Therefore present day journalists are little more than gossip columnists who are concerned with "controversies" and sepculation regarding their potential consequences.
Mind you that doesn't excuse Murdo "it wasnae even a yellow" MacLeod or Scott "wasn't Boydies dive funny" Booth!

That about sums up my self-imposed ban on reading all and any tabloids.
But I found the viewpoints on that match within our support even more depressing.
Benfica did us a favour. Or had we already amassed enough points to progress.
Had the final two fixtures of this season's CL group been reversed, I fear that some would've found it harder to deflect the credit away from WGS.
-
Ed/porridge - now cheating and splitting my posts in two, not that I have anything against the long post club. :0)
Yes saw the NTV article in question and another interesting comparison would be DR report of that game and gers Werder Bremen 2nd leg.
The only thing that really disappointed me with Tom Campbell's Celtic Paranoia All in the Mind? was his conclusion that the media seem to annoy fans of Celtic and Rangers equally, therefore the media probably just about get it right in terms of fair coverage of both! I was very surprised to read that especially considering his excellent deconstruction of the laptop loyal's coverage of Dallasgate and Neil Lennon.
I would suggest that Tom Campbell is not familiar with 'Spoilt-child syndrome' e.g. Spoiled child's emotional response to mild reprimand is commensurate with another child's response to draconian punishment. The emotional response does not mean the treatment of each is equal.
Any guesses as to who is the spoilt child of Scottish football Ed?? ;0)
-
TonyBananas :- I would have to say it's Celtic fans, on my side of the river we haven't had much to feel spoiled about over the past couple of seasons :-)

tony bananas,
Re Keith Jackson - I posted this in the aftermath of our last match in Milan;
"Meant to say earlier that Keith "Jangle" Jackson appears to have taken the phrase "lazy journalism" to new heights (or should that be "depths") in today's "paper".
Apparently we "go on from Group D only because of Benfica's win in Donetsk". Funny that, as I could have sworn that we played 5 other games in the Group Stages.
Jackson goes on to tell us that the draw for the next round will be held on December 18 when in fact it's December 21.
Finally, the piece de resistance; see if you can spot the mistake in the following excerpt from Jackson's report referring to Milan's goal last night;
" As usual Kaka was in the right position at the right time to shoot a record 63rd European goal."
Sometimes, "Hack" is too mild a word..."

Anyway great article about the diving Paul. Only read your main point and looked at the video link.
Is this for REAL? How can anyone with eyes and a brain call us paranoid? Or try to defend the system?
Several weeks back the hacks were leading with the story that the chief executive of the SFA wanted to cut out the diving in our game - OR BLATANT CHEATING as I prefer to call it. This was a WORLD exclusive!
Since then we have had the incident against the FoD with thomson on Samaras. Now we have this latest gem shown on your link. All the while no comment or, more importantly, action from Smith or the media.
Then there is the image of the other smith, wattie I believe his name to be, BLATANTLY flaunting the laws and breaking the rules. All the while no comment or, more importantly, action from Smith or the media.
It's time something was done about this.
ED - I pose these questions primarily to you (although they are open to all). Please do not squirm or wriggle from them.
Does this appear to be BLATANT cheating?
Do the authorities / media appear to be turning a blind eye?
What do you think appears to be the reasons for this?
Do you think the media would have given more coverage of these incidents had they involved players / manager of the FAMOUS GLASGOW CELTIC?
Or maybe we ARE just paranoid.

It's not often i get or act Serious but i will try to be here Seriously.
I've never really got involved in the paranoia bias debate sometimes it is a bit of swings and roundabouts regarding referees decisions, and they can get away with it, up to a point.
The 3-0 game 9 in a row raised a few eyebrows in Europe and around the World, unfortunately the World doesn't watch every week.
Have you ever thought maybe there is more than one reason we don't have Old Firm league decider's, we are the only league/sport in the world who tries to avoid a sell out world wide decider against the two best teams in the Country.
Cup draws have been fixed since Football began to provide such a Climax to a competition.
I took a few Aussie girls to the game the other week all first timers, talking to one after the match i was telling her they still had to come to our ground twice and that we had more chance at Our ground Our supporters, she added ''will it be your Umpire then too'' as i said the Eyes of the world.
But back to being Serious if our governing body are openly flouting the Laws of the game to give someone a unfair advantage.
I believe there is something that could be done to really put the SFA/SPL/Officials/Managers/Players in the spotlights of FIFA/UEFA.
GAMBLING I'm no legal eagle but i bet a few on here are, and it doesn't have to concern Millions of pounds, there has been precedents all over the world in football from the lowest leagues in the world football.
For example there could be more wagered on East Stirling v Dumbarton in Thailand than William Hill take on any given Saturday.
A FIXED match is a FIXED match no matter what the Referee or Governing Body Say.

I deal with Roy Keane on a regular basis and think he would be an ideal future manager of Celtic.
But I can guarantee now that Keano will never manage Celtic.
When he came here as a player in 2005/06 the single biggest reason that it did not work out was that his wife Theresa didn't like Glasgow.
And Theresa and the five kinds stayed in Cheshire while Keano commuted to Glasgow.
The PR spin was that he couldn't play on with his hip problem- the real reason was that his wife and kids simply didn't fancy Glasgow.
Sadly, we can safely forget about Keano and cast our eyes at other ex-Celts such as Moyes, Mowbray, McGhee, Collins etc when Mr Strachan takes his leave.

Your list of future Celtic managers does not exactly thrill me, too much of a muchness about it. Do you think the powers that be at Celtic might suprise us with a more adventurous manager like Bilic. I rather take a chance with Ince than the managers you mentioned, have you ever met him on your travels.
-
Sean South:
Interesting take on R Keane and would make sense...but surely there is no actual need to pack his family into a house IN Glasgow?
e.g. Edinburgh? Borders? Stirling area? even Dunoon?
Not sure he's the man we need right now but think he's a guy with real presence and one who I think will become a very prominent manager in time.......
Mr Strachan for me has served his time and so I'd like bid him thanks and cheerio......
-
Roy keane?
Wise up lads.
I'd rather see Roy Cropper off corrie get the reins.
What about Brian Kerr?
-
Narrowboat Tim:
Reckon Mr Billic would be a very interesting prospect.....he's certainly a personality and one who seems to be down to earth and at one with his team (from the little I've seen \ heard on TV).
10 years ago when money was flung about like confetti we'd perhaps a wider choice of managers who'd come to us...as we'd some money to spend....or so it seemed.
Nowadays I believe our applicants will not be so wide ranging as it's possibly widely known we can't compete with most of europe to try and bring in top class players...hence some who like to buy the best need not apply...
I reckon D Moyes or Mark Hughes must be realistic options for us.....but I just can't get excited about Mark McGHee or Craig Leveine type suggestions.

RadicalThinker :- Firstly can I say that I don't try to squirm or wriggle out of any question, I try to answer as best I can when I can.
You asked four questions.
1) The two instances of diving were cheating all diving is, whether they were more or less cheatin than any other dives I've no opinion on. The altercation Mr Smith was involved in would not count as cheating in my opinion, an argument with another manager is not an attempt to gain a dishonest advatage.
2)I have no idea, I very rarely bother with the media though I do recall that Mr Thompson was castigated and condemned by at least one reporter. As far as the authorities go, Mr Smith was reported and sent to the stand for two games. . Again this is just my opinion, you would have to take it up with the bodies involved if you want a better answer.
3)You would need to ask the folk involved, I don't think there is a huge conspiricy involving referees to gift Rangers the title, again it's just my opinion I can't answer for them.
4)I think they (print media) probably would.

I really can't comment on whether Roy Keane would be a successful Celtic manager, my problem with him is simple, despite expressing a desire to play for Celti, he was willing to wait until he was done as a player,I don't believe this to be the actions of a Celtic fan,he had all the money he needed so what was stopping him?,i,for one, would not have given him the opportunity to pull the hoops on,he did not deserve it,the fact that he did still irks me.Rant over.

Roy Cropper is the next Leicester manager. If WGS does beat the huns he will be gone. I dont think any of the so called Celtic-minded usual suspect of managerial replacements would be any better than WGS. If we are going to replace our manager some green-sky thinking needs to happen.

01bhoy:I did get back on to you yesterday. My answer was basically that I knew we were ###### when the transfer window shut on August 31 and would lose out to Rangers.... and said so on here much to the displeasure of the Estadio's of this world.
Narrowboat:I have met Ince and am not a great fan.Certainly not up to handling the Celtic job.
And to others I am not putting the ex-Celts forward as the next manager I just think they are in the pay league we will be looking at.
We are downsizing according to the info I am getting, despite our supposed financial superiority over Rangers that Paul67 keeps preaching about..
Kevtic: Yes I am at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Keano has done a good job there although to be fair he has had £45 million to spend this season.
Estadio: Your pathetic little personal attack is typical of the atitude of the self-styled CQN elite.
The clique's reading of the boardroom-Strachan situation has been shown up to be totally flawed and now all you can do is aim petty insults and lies at those who have called it correctly.
So I don't have any dealings with Roy Keane and you do?
If you were anywhere near as clever as you try to make out you would know not to make such foolish and spurious statements.
Your woeful use of words on this occasion betrays your ignorance of the facts.

If Gordon Strachan pulls the rabbit out of the hat and wins the title then he will be the luckiest football manager of all time. If this is the case then he should be afforded another season. You cant buy luck sometimes but if he does win it he must have it in abundance.

Morning Al,
So let me get this clear in my head ....
Gordon wins - He's lucky
Gordon loses - Luck has nothing to do with it.
Ok. Got it, Thanks. :-)

Alobundy (great name)
If Mr Strachan wins the league,it won't be because he has been lucky.
If you win the league over a season, then it is because you are the best team in that league over the whole season.
If we lose it ,it wasn't because we were unlucky ,either.

That was an interesting post last night (@ 0005) about Roy Keane. If I remember rightly, you work in England as a sports journalist, so it's reasonable to believe that you have had direct contact with the man. Can you confirm that he said this directly to you?
I understand that you're feel offended by Estadio's comments; but it's absolutely not his style to speak thus to anyone on CQN and we all go off on one from time to time. When someone contributes as much to a site as Estadio does, surely he deserves to be cut a bit more slack than you've given him?
Even allowing for your evident annoyance, the content of your 0405 post doesn't sit well with your complaining in it about the use of personal insults, and the 'woeful use of words'. Take "Sycophantic fan club from BBs". That's clearly directed at the group - open to all - who regularly meet before games there. A bit personal, I'd say, even if no names are mentioned, and certainly insulting. Further, it's lazy, inaccurate and confrontational towards a group of people who aren't even involved in your spat with Estadio.
And as for "self-styled CQN elite", well, you're the one who makes a living out of words, and is complaining about their "woeful use", so you should exercise a little more care yourself. Can you point me to a single post since CQN was founded by a member of this 'elite' referring to it as such? Of course you can't, so it isn't 'self-styled' at all. The only people using the term, or others like it, come from that group of vionaries and savants previously known as mineshafters. Speaking of which, it must be an open-cast mine these days, judging by the number of people who've fallen into it :-)
You claim to have foreseen the outcome of this season on 31 August. I suggest that like the rest of us, you made the best guess you could, which has turned out to be right. Consider this: if we had won our last two games - and we had early chances in both that could easily have secured those victories - we would currently be two points ahead of Rangers, and big favourites to win the league despite having played a game more.
I know, I know, my auntie remains a woman - but sometimes big changes in fortune hinge on what are by any other measure minor factors. Psychologists recognise a wide-spread tendency for people to invent after the event a simple narrative that 'explains' what has happened, often demonstrating its inevitability rather than accepting that complex or even random factors have resulted in an outcome that might easily have been very different. Historians explaining WWI come to mind, but if you really think the outcome of this season's SPL was a certainty on 1 September - or even 1 April - then you're falling into that trap.
If there is a single field of human endeavour that best illustrates this is a fallacy, it is sport. Celtic will almost certainly finish the season with no trophies, and if so, both Gordon Strachan and the board bear some of the responsibility for it. However, the only inevitability is that people will come on at the end of the season - however it turns out - saying that it was always going to turn out
