I’m amazed at the disrespect shown to the manager of Celtic Football club by so-called Celtic fans.
No matter your opinions on the manager’s ability, referring to him by his second name or calling him names shows no respect for the office far less the man.
For a second I thought id signed onto follow follow,
Please show some dignity
-
dignity....hmmmmmmmmm

have to agree with smtg, no need to insult OUR manager.
Can anyone explain how Rangers have accumulated more points than us given we have been the more consistent team, as far as european competiton is concerened?

It's all about opinions

-
gweedorebhoy-
can we trust strachan to buy the players we need?
i don't know.
does strachan really decide on what players we need?
what does john park do?
what about the ssm?
what i'm getting at is that i'm not sure whether strachan gets a final say or what say he gets at all.
if we have a system for selecting players to be bought then i'm sure he contributes but to what extent i'm not sure. i imagine the ssm has the final say. if strachan and john park have identified different players for the same position, who does the ssm go with? is that a possible situation?
i've read rumours that gs and john park don't get on. is that true? if so how has that affected what players we've bought?
for example-
selling miller ( i don't think gs was too happy about that)
buying hutchenson ( i have heard that it was a john park signing )
i'd find it interesting if someone in the know can shed a light on how we really go about buying (or selling) players.

Gweedorebhoy
Just for the sake of it
Artur Boruc is widely regarded as being possibly the best keeper the great majority of us have seen playing for Celtic
Andreas Hinkel will imo go on to be one of the better full backs we have had in a number of years.
WE seriously tried to sign Van Buyten and Metzelder but failed. Would either have changed your mind about GS and his signings?
Scott Brown was the talent in Scottish football 12 months ago. He won't be the first to be overawed when moving to Celtic. Perhaps like Stan Petrov and Henrik Larsson we may enjoy him
yet.
Have you seen anything of Koki Mizuno so far? I expect us to be very pleased with him in due course.
Scott Mc Donald? 26 goals is not too bad by anyone's standards surely?
Not many I grant you but when you're having to trawl the bottom in many cases its probably as good as the next guy.
By the way I have asked before and I'm not at the wind up you were extremely confident that Rangers would sign both Robson and Velichka and said the deals were already done. Was your source poor or is there another tale?

Pfayr- so we would be going for 4iar?
I imagine that if we won the league from this position a lot of the pain would be forgotten as we basked in the amazement of it all.
I didn't get much pleasure last season either ,but was told to shut up and admire the silverware.
This year we haven't even had that.
If we win this year I think the manager will walk away, if we don't he'll have to be sacked.
Of course,in the long run seasons like this are good for the soul; they make the good times even sweeter.
-
Sack Platini and Blatter and all the other Uefa Darnelists that let this situation arise.
Or sack Bert Kassie.
-
I just watched the first half of the Celtic V Killie reserves match. There has been some good performances. Mizuno has been quality pinging the passes about although not sure how he's feeling after some heavy challeges but he seems alright. Hutchinson did well before his injury pinging in a lovely cross for Killen's second. Caddis is good at right back, Sno and Miller are dominating the midfield and Cuthbert and Balde are solid in defence. Killen has been clinical with his three goals as well. So all in all an impressive performance. Big difference from that reserves and first team though...
-
Smelltheglove.
Personally i always try to refer to the manager as Mr Strachan.I do this because some have said that it is disrespectful to call him by his surname.
I do not see anything wrong with a player or manager being referred to by there surname.
I always referred to Tommy Burns as Tommy Burns. However sometimes i would refer to Paul McStay as McStay and John Collins as Collins ,and Danny McGrain as McGrain.
I think that you are taking the lack of a first name being used ,to formally.
Just a small point but ,it doesn't always mean that people are being disrespectful.

bobo's re-introduction on the 26/12/07 not only gave us our first clean sheet away in over a year but spurred us on a winning run of 8 games with 6 clean sheets
the huns have to go to 3 grounds were they have lost points this season - fir park - easter rd and pittodrie
maybe the re-introduction of bobo this sunday could have the same rejuvinating effect
all we need is the huns to drop points at fir park - probable and get stuffed at easter road probable
we win the league by a point

from the last article. think blogger chopped it.
Edward
You also drew with Hibs.
One game (St Mirren away) was postponed at the behest of the SFA - the only game incidentally that would have meant your team played consecutive European and Domestic Away games at least once this season - and another in order that you could prepare for the Lyon game (Gretna).
The St Mirren game should have been on the 11th of November. The Gretna game was supposed to be on the 9th of December. Rangers had a free mid week on the 5th of December but chose not to use it to play the postponed St Mirren game. They also had a free midweek on the 19th of December in which they could have played either of these postponed games. They chose not to.
Rangers lightened their load at a time when their nearest rivals rolled up their sleeves and got on with it. We dropped points in November/December while Rangers had some down time.
An extension in these circumstances is grossly unjust.

Should you be reading this first of all congratulations on getting this far - UEFA Cup that is. You know I cannot wish you success but there you go.
Strangely I remember the 1961 Cup Winners Cup Final when I was rooting for your lot simply because you were Scottish. Now I'm happy to see you lose at tiddleywinks. How did that happen? Rhetorical by the way as I don't know the answer myself.
By the way cards on table I did not think you could possibly do what you have done. I believed that until the game against ICT when Darcheville scored in the last minute that you were a poor side scraping results. From then on however you've grown and developed into a side who are extremely difficult to beat and with great momentum and team spirit. I believed in January that our signings and the return of Naka would sort you out but I was wrong. Now I live in hope but not expectation.
What I actually wanted to ask is how you feel about it all? This season must be exceeding your wildest expectations but I truly wonder how it compares with my feelings in 2003. I know that you beat Bremen but I wonder if you'd had the same expectaion as I did early on meeting and beating Blackburn Celta Vigo Hamburg then Liverpool. I remember buying the tickets for the final between the two legs against Liverpool with confidence that we could get there and that even following our loss to you in the League Cup Final after BBJ'S incorrectly disallowed goal and missed penalty. I just knew we were a good team and felt that on our day we could beat anyone whilst at times some of our play was very exciting to watch.
I was disappointed at the season's end but the ride was exhilerating. I wonder if you're experiencing anything like it? Does this Rangers side give you a buzz or is the winning enough?

Z :- Once again I'll say I agree with you on the extension, I've said this many times on different posts, I think it would be wrong. Fair enough on the Hibs draw that also added to extra fixtures. That leaves three postponed games, one we requested, one Celtic requested and one the SFA requested for international reasons.
I take your word for it about the two free midweeks but can't comment as I don't recall the reasons given.

Derbyshirebhoy :- I can't say I'm thrilled with the style of play we are using this season. I would far rather see a more entertaining game played.
However although it may not be the prettiest football to watch it isn't as negative as many think, having played a game less than you in the league we have scored four goals more than you.
On expectations for this season, I honestly think we are exceeding anything I dreamt of this season and although I doubt it will happen I'm starting to dream the impossible dream so to speak.
Last night gave me one of the biggest highs I can remember for years, this may be due to the fact that I was 15 the last time we reached a European semi but it was still a fantastic buzz.
Like yo did about the seville team I'm now thinking that we can beat anyone we face on the day.
So this season I would love a more entertaining style but after the past couple of seasons winning is enough.
-
Edward
About those free midweeks there were no reasons given. Rangers could have played but apparently chose not to. If there are any reasons perhaps they or the SPL can explain them to us should they ask for and be granted an extension.

Enjoy. They don't come along too often.

I really don't think that brutal honesty, disingenuous charm or evasive sophistry in WGS's communication with the fans will make a blind bit of difference to the relationship. I fear they'd find fault if even he said "youse are all absolutely right, I'm a fud and a numptie in the pay of the Lodge and I did it all for a bet."
The only thing that matters is results. He was never loved, he was never accepted and, once the irrefutable evidence of titles won and qualifications obtained are gone, we have the evidence to demand his sacking.
I fear that whoever replaces him may well win back our league but I fear we may be downsizing in Europe soon because we have been punching above our weight for some time.
-
PFAyr :- Are you trying to get me lynched :-)
As I was asked I'll say that I think he is a good manager when things are going well but I also think he loses this when given a real challenge in Scotland. Remember I don't see your team every week so don't have the knowledge of his tactical awareness that folk on here do. Perhaps the most damming thing I can say about him is I would be pleased if he were to stay for next season.
I don't think he comes near Mr Smith as a manager.

Hey Paul,
You sure know how to cheer it up ! Pot 4 ? Boooooooooooooo !
Following the total disaster of last weekend, this is sad news.
Your article on how Uefa should change the points system for CL vs. Uefa Cup is graphically illustrated by this information I'm afraid.
-
their should mean there
-
gerry 19.03 - Like tinytim said if Mr Levein is a Celtic fan he has hidden it extremely well for 45 years, in fact perhaps he should be working for MI5 if that is the case.
His behaviour and pronouncments over the suggest the opposite - particularly his "I want to put this behind us but here's a video of John Hartson elbowing my player" stunt.
To my mind Levein, Blobby Williamson and Jim Jeffries were the three SPL managers most keen to greet and whinge after losing to Celtic but being a tad more reticent after games against Brerr Hun.
Re the actual thread, I am amazed that there is not some weighting towards coefficient points gained in the Champions League. If UEFA can arrange it so Henke needed to score 1.5 times more goals than Henry/Ronaldo etc. to win the golden boot because he played in a mediocre league then they can do it for European competition surely.

The biggest disappointment for me is that WGS is picking the team on Sunday.
His team selection last weekend against Motherwell should have been the final nail in his coffin.
To leave out Samaras and Hartley and bring back Donatti smacks of a man trying to get sacked, as was said earlier.
He should have been removed on Monday morning.
And those calling for Bobo Balde to play on Sunday would be as well asking for Prince Philip to get a game.
To ignore our best defender all year and bring him back when the league is all but lost would be another insult to the fans to add to the long list.
The fact that he still retains his position causes me to fear that the board will give him another year.
This would be calamitous for the club.
The club have a core support, in my opinion, of 30k who will turn up however poorly the team are performing.
The rest are guys who came to the club when Fergus got us going again. Thats 20k fans who were doing other things on Saturdays pre-Fergus.
From the look of our attendances this year it seems some of them have gone back to doing those other things.
The club cannot afford to go back to the attendances of the early nineties but if the slide is allowed to continue that is exactly where we are heading.
The club stands at a crossroads this summer and how we react will determine the clubs direction for the next decade.

Hi All,
I am addicted to this site!
dontbrattbackinanger - I am with you on that!
I am in need of some help from any of the sites historians.
I know the first Celtic game I was taken to with my Dad and his brother was at Hampden Park.
It was Celtic V Motherwell.
Celtic won 1-0
I am sure it was a cup tie, hence the venue.
I am sure it was 1965, but it might have 1966. I cannot be sure of the year - I was 9 or 10
For the 10 years follwing I followed Celtic all over Scotland.
I still watch or listen to every game - I don't live in Scotland now.
Thing is...
I cannot find a record of any such match!!!!
Hopefully I have looked in the wrong places,
Anyone shed any light?

Amongst the major requirements, would be:-
He does not attend BB cliques
He does not sign Scottish players cos they're rubbish
He must speak respectfully to the Dawylls and other ex employees of Rangers News, er, I mean respected members of the Scottish Sports Press.
He must never lose a game to a diddy team.
He must play Bobo even when the rev is reffing.
He must not play the discredited 4:4:2 system as espoused by 90% of European teams and must, instead, play the 3:5:2 system which was all the rage for 5 minutes at the turn of the millennium.
And he must be celtic-minded, though your guess is as good as mine as to what that means.
Hope that helps.

Alright im biting can you please tell me who you will all get to be the next manager who will deliver us the title every year.
Ferguson 4 years at Man U before delivering a trophy... he would not have lasted a year with our current support.
Wenger a year at Arsenal before delivering and not delivering every year....as above
Benetiz 2 trophies not good enough
Hughes, Moyes not won anything.
MoN mid table manager also has a history of not winnign every year up here.
So who is the solution?
Or do we get the SSM to interview CQN contributors?

First post here. Go easy!
Just wanted to chuck in my opinion.
This season has been hard to take but is getting rid of WGS really the answer? I can't think of anyone capable enough (with the thick skin that goes with old firm management) that would want the job.
I think it right we have our opinions but at this time I think we need to stand behind the team as one. How much is the negativity affecting the players? All the web and paper talk, I'll bet it filters back to Celtic Park.
Come on, we still have a chance. 2 home old firms and it's 3 points, not a mountain just a wee hill!
Always look on the bright side of life!

RnR Bhoy- it means you can delete it, say for example you end up with the same post 3 or 4 times as can happen; or you decide you want to get rid of your post for any reason.
My first game was Carlisle against Coventry[?1966-7]; Bobby Gould was playing for them and my dad gave him a black look for swearing loudly when he put the ball out for a shy.
This is going to come over all Hovis advert but I think it may even have been the first time I heard the F-word; nowadays it's the punctuation of the playground.
-
Bhoy Molloy
It's just as likely to be the vino I've had.
What I intended to convey was that I expect us to perform poorly in Europe over the next few years because I think we've punched above our ability level in both the MON and WGS era. I think we'll be lucky to get into CL groups above a 1 in 4 ratio unless we get into a more lucrative market than the SPL.
I realise that Rankers current Uefa run is evidence to the contrary. I've tried to look for a rational explanation for this but I can only conclude that GOD (the big fella not Paul's theory) is building them up for an especially big fall.

If MH and DM had been managing 10-15 years ago they could well have won a trophy- now[this year excepted] even the FACup is the reserve of the top 3 or 4 clubs.

I know it's all about opinions, but I really can't see how anyone actually watching the poor predictable football that has been dished up now week in week out.......can actually think this manager really makes things happen on the pitch!
Why \ How any supporter could actually want Gordon to remain for another 12 months is beyond me. We are getting worse to watch as this season draws onand that's with possibly one of the most entertaining players in decades pulling on the hopes : Aiden!
As to us finishing any season trophyless with the resources available to our manager is quite honestly shocking!
Sorry but Gordon's teams are not for me, a change is required and I believe the plc board know it....the vast majority of us supporters know it (IMHO).
I'd have removed him after that debacle on saturday and asked Wille McStay \ Lenny to see out the remaining fixtures in the dug out........cos that was a disgrace of a result for the HOOPS!
I bet you'd get a reaction from the players if Gordon left i really do cos they are NOT playing for him anymore.
Even if Naylor lost a leg he'd still be picked to play......same for Mick, Caldwell, JVoH......1 million % unacceptable.
Thank you Gordon for what was delivered.......but enough is enough taxi for Strachan.

Massimo is the only guy in the squad who has a range of passes just because he does not kick people it does nto mena he is bad. Most of our players kick people because its their second touch.
Massimo has scored more than any other midfielder this season apart from Aiden and has played less than the other 3 main players. Also scored in Europe.
I dont know what is not to like with this guy. Its a media led problem. I believe is he was played against the huns at the bigot dome the other week we would have won as he would have picked off passes which is what everyone is shouting for us to do.
I said it on here earlier in the season he plays passes as well as anyone I have saw since the maestro maybe the problem he see's them earlier than the rest of the team.

M8 I think Europe on a whole is a lot weaker than before. The fact that the huns are in the UEFA semi finals with Zenith and that the CL has 3 english teams says it all.

So ye get the same points in the uefa as ye get in the champions league then?
Does'nt seem fair that.
To be honest tho I really dont think it makes a bit of difference to us, because no matter which pot we are in we are capable of beating and getting beat by any other team, we are always gonna be up against it.
Does it really matter which pot we are in?

rock & roll bhoy...
As ulster-celt posted that game in August 1965 was a League Cup section tie played at Celtic Park on a Wednesday evening, 18 August 1965.
Celtic won 1-0 and Johnny Divers scored the only goal.
In that league cup section of 1965/1966 Celtic were grouped with Dundee, Dundee United and Motherwell.
We got off to a bad start losing the first game at Tannadice 2-1.
Then came the Motherwell game and the following Saturday we lost again at Celtic Park, 2-0, to Dundee.
The Celtic View had just been launched two weeks earlier on 11 August 1965 and Jock Stein had a regular column.
After the Dundee defeat Jock wrote ...
"Sometimes you can have too much of the game. Yet it would be ridiculous for a team not to try and monopolise the attacking play.
In the first eleven's two games last week we had Motherwell and Dundee penned back in defence for long periods and in each game we made plenty of scoring chances.
The solitary goal scored by John Divers against Motherwell was poor reward for the chances created.
It seemed reasonable to hope that against Dundee we could hardly fail to score more than a single goal if we continued to make chances.
Well, we made even more, but we didn't score even one goal.
That was very disappointing.
We have only ourselves to blame, though it would be unfair of me not to point out that we didn't get one break near goal.
And I agree with the vast majority of our supporters that we were denied what looked like a very good penalty kick.
If we had scored early against Dundee I am convicned that we would have won handsomely.
That quick goal is what we need most of all to give the players that confidence.
But only we can score it.
I don't agree with the writers who say that we were all hustle and bustle and helter skelter against Dundee.
I thought that we made some very good moves on the ground and that there was a background of thought to most of our attacking play."
Jock Stein
25 August 1965.
Two defeats out of three, it sounds like Jock's making excuses!
What would the CQN'ers of 1965 have made of it?

I reckon in Donatti a player lurks......
and before I say what I'm about to say I want to say he is not alone in this fault by any stretch of teh imagination.......
BUT for an Italian the amount of times he surrenders posession by lazy loose passing is def' not what you'd expect. He is not alone in this but you'd expect him having played at such a high level for AC Milan and being an Italian footballer he'd have the premise 'thou must not lose posession' drummed into him from the moment he could walk.....
Still think he can be a great player and it is his 1st season playing in a team that looks confused and bemused so maybe we're over critical.
Still think Mr Strachan should walk right now and allow the team to breath for the last 7 games.

Rock On Rockall
Oh the empire is finished no foreign lands to seize
So the greedy eyes of England are looking towards the seas
Two hundred miles from Donegal, there's a place that's called Rockall
And the groping hands of Whitehall are grabbing at its walls
Oh rock on Rockall, you'll never fall to Britain's greedy hands
Or you'll meet the same resistance that you did in many lands
May the seagulls rise and pluck your eyes and the water crush your shell,
And the natural gas will burn your ass and blow you all to hell.
For this rock is part of Ireland, 'cos it' s written in folklore
That Fionn MacCumhaill took a sod of grass and he threw it to the fore,
Then he tossed a pebble across the sea, where ever it did fall,
For the sod became the Isle of Man and the pebble's called Rockall.
Now the seas will not be silent, while Britannia grabs the waves
And remember that the Irish will no longer be your slaves,
And remember that Britannia, well, - she rules the waves no more
So keep your hands off Rockall - it's Irish to the core.
Time to go Gordon.

Earlier GL2 asked:
So who is the solution?
I've yet to see this question convinvingly answered.
And spikeysAuldMan asked:
what does he have to do to not be a fud - over his first 3 years
Again, I've never seen this convincingly answered. In fact some guys on here think the Manager should be sacked even if we do win the title this year.
So, we sack Strachan then try to sell the job to someone by saying - 'Your predecessor ONLY achieved two (or three) titles, two Scottish Cup wins and two unprecedented qualifications for the last 16 of the CL in his three years here - JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH! The man was a useles failure (or Fud or Wee Ginger Imposter or some other term of abuse - take your pick. There have been quite a variety on here tonight). Do you fancy the job then?'.
What target do we give this new guy?
Do I think Starchan's perfect? Not even close. But someone name a name who we could realistically attract and present some convinving evidence that they would secure more for the club in their first three years than the incumbant has.

GL2;
just noticed the question.
For me Smith has put together a team that look organised and have a winning mentality.
We'll never have messi, beckham, ronaldo etc at parkhead so we have to live within our means and have football born of graft but with some skill mixed in to set us apart from the M'wells \ A'deens of the SPL.......but most of all I want to see a team that look likes they are not bemused by team selection \ tactics.
Under gordon have you ever decided what is his best 11....Jings crivens he works with teh squad in training every day and he sure as heck can't.....in his time in charge I've asked this question on here many times and I'm bemused.......how can that be?
I'm certainly no Smith lover and i don't actually like the man one little bit, but he organises players and gets them to run through brick walls for him (with help from MIB obviosuly)
Not sure if that's teh answer you're looking for but Gordon for me is a man that is NOW out of his depth and HE's lost the dressing room.....and when that happens teh team loses games, lots of them and have a look at our results in recent weeks.
Taxi for Mr Strachan.

The names that appear, like Zenit (and Shaktar etc;) do not prove that European strength is weakening merely that it's moving to teams with more money.
Shaktar spent enough money to field a team of better players and failed to beat us. Zenit have spent much more than us too. Benfica spent double on Cardozo than we spent on Skoosh.
These financial disadvantages cannot go on without us dropping down the rankings. Mid-table and lower teams in EPL, La Liga and Serie A have squads that dwarf us in terms of spending and quality. the only thing that help there is that it is more important for them to remain in their cash rich leagues than to get UEFA success, hence Bolton's fielding of a reserve side in Lisbon.
WGS and Wattie have both confounded the odds in Europe this year. Rankers can only have got to where they have in Uefa because they failed to equal our CL achievment.
As a general happy clapper, future downsizing in Europe is my nightmare. Really hope I'm wrong.

swanseabhoy;
We are told by plenty of media pundits and managers who were offerred the Celtic managers job that it's one helluva job...and most would snap it up in an instant...as it's an amazing job with a fantastic club.
Whomever replaces Gordon has a very hard job ahead of them, and of that there is little doubt, but to imply that Gordon should stay simply because the next maanger could be worse makes no sense at all.....I trust the plc board won't pick the village idiot to be our next manager they will choose someone who they feel will take the team by the scruff of the neck and make it a winning team again.
At some time there will be a new man in the hotseat whether it's tomorrow, a year from now or 2 years from now and that new guy will bring with him new ideas and fresh impetus......
To put it plain I've lost faith Gordon and I believe so have HIS players.

Derbyshirebhoy 20:59 - great post.
Unfortunately there is not too much of that type of recognition about.
If WGS leaves at the end of this season, I truly believe that the next manager takes over a better situation than that which GS took over. Don't forget that Celtic were longer outsiders to win the league in his first season than Rangers were this season! Alex McLeish had won as many domestic trophies as Martin O'Neill in a lesser period the media rejoiced in telling us. Imagine what he was about to do to a Celtic team in transition.
Never quite happened - did it? (btw The Rangers fans similarly turned on McLeish and look what happened after he got ousted. Despite what success Rangers get THIS season, ultimately Walters Smiths brand of football will take Rangers backwards - if we keep clear heads)
This fact, along with a successful defence of the title, 1 league cup, 1 Scottish Cup and 2 last 16's in the Champions League means that in my view, Gordon Strachan can hold his head up high as a successful Celtic Manager. Absolutely underserving of some of the garbage that is posted on here.
All managers come with the guarantee that they will fail supporters expectations eventually. It's how that failure is taken by the supporters that determines the long term strength of that club.As the saying goes...its the support that gets managers the sack.
Whilst some of the criticisms of Gordon Strachan are valid, I genuinely don't see anyone out there (of the names mentioned as "real" candidates anyway) that will come into our club and satisfy season after season the demand to win the league.
I guess that our club means that much to us all that when we fail, it hurts us all badly...however forming opinions or making decisions when angry can often lead to bigger problems further upstream.

Blantyrekev I have said on here before that JJ was our most influential (hey I got that by spellchecker) player in Europe as he knew how to play the game against good clubs.

Ulster-celt, you can joke, but often when I raise a subject like this some… challenged individual.. comes on suggesting I am trying to calm down expectations.
Livibhoy, thanks.
Half and half, if we draw both Milan and Barca it does.
Gordon, I don’t know what the CQN’ers of 1965 would have made of Jock, but I remember the ‘feedback’ he received in 1975 when the team was failing and he refused to play Jinky, brining him on only for the last 10 minutes, not to mention 1978.
The galleries were as hard to please then as now and just as full of experts.
-
sftb;
as to the dressing room....
I've no secret mole or webcam set up to get insider info, I just think the players don't go that extra yard for him anymore, I came to that conclusion using my own eyes and drawing personal conclusions.
It's my opinion and some will agree, others won't but the team is not playing well and hasn't now for a while.
If we all agreed on here it's be kinda boring and we'd all be swapping knitting patterns and stuff.......but we've a team that is misiring and I happen to think some players are now going through the motions and waiting for the bell to toll and the season to finish.
-
pjdali
I can see your point....to a point, if that makes sense.
What keeps me awake at night is who we replace him with. Most of the names mentioned on here send a shiver of fear down my spine...not a tingle of excitment.
Honestly, I recognise Strachan's failings but I genuinely haven't seen or heard a single name mentioned that has inspired me. I suppose what I'm trying to say is -I'll live with sacking Strachan (despite his unarguable successes) but someone give me confidence that we can realistically replace him with someone better.
The question about what target we set the new guy for his fist three years was also genuine. Do we set the bar lower than Strachan's achievements. If not we're presenting him with pretty tall order.
I'm sincerely interested in understanding what a lot of Posters on here anticipate the next three years looking like if you/they get their wish and Starchan goes - voluntarily or involuntarily.

Benfica lost 0:3 at home to Coimbra tonight. Just maybe the Benfica quick news are calling him a waste of money too. My point was that these teams were paying that money and seem to be able to afford it.

The next day Skippy apologised for his reaction and he and Aiden were at pains to point out their close relationship with the coach. Now, I have no inside info but I could gossip with the best if I had a mind to. I really don't know whether his feelings expressed while being subbed were any more truthful than the regrets he expressed in cooler circumstances the next day. As such, I will continue to discount the gossip as having little validity.

MON last two league titles on the last day of the season.
His cup defeat at Caley came after we had beaten Liverpool in the QF of the UEFA cup on our way to our first Euro final for 30 years.
Under him Lubo had his best 2 games in a Celtic jersey. Juventus at home and der Hun at Ibrox when Henke scored his 50th of the season.
At no point in his tenure did the team appear as spineless, rudderless and devoid of ideas as they do today.
Lets put this nonsense to bed once and for all. MON is 100 times the manager that WGS is.

for the donati dislikers out there
cast your mind back to before he lost the plot, remember if you will his strolling gait, as he waltzed past man after man before calmly stroking the ball home against aberdeen and from that tight angle against hearts at parkhead. remember his peach of a strike against shaktar :/)
he started out as pure class and people on here were waxing lyrical about him as the season gained momentum. that bhoy is a steal etc etc etc.
now look at the other constant in midfield scot brown, started the same way he even used to score
occasionally as well.
they are both stuck in reverse gear because they are not part of a team donati has lost all confidence you could see it against motherwell he has been subbed 15 times he knows the hook is coming in every game.
in fact the whole team is going backwards come to think of it and guess what gs has no answer never has had and never will. gs sadly is the common denominator they played against well' like a bunch of strangers who are fed up, listening to gs.
look at the press conference today same old rhetoric we must take our chances, any change of tactics?

i'm gonna stick up for donati. i think he can offer us something different from the midfield, the ability to see passes. he needs help in the centre though. i think he's been unlucky that he's come to a new league and he's playing alongside a talented but very naive young player. it can't be easy, especially when there are others not pulling their weight. so leave off him! :)
we need to come together, not rip ourselves apart

gerry - I've never known Levein personally just going by my impression of him in interviews.
JJ67 22.28 - Billy Davies is a failed hun from the early 80s. I also remember him doing his nut after Murderwell had played 10 at the back at Celtic Park and held out for 85 minutes before Lubo put a sublime free-kick past Goram. He claimed they were so unlucky and deserved a point when they hardly got over their own halfway line and were in danger of getting football banned.

DBBIA hit it on the head earlier when he said Ferguson got it easy due to man u not having won anything for years before he took over.
We have too many 'supporters' who have not went through bad teams. We are all hurting listening to a huns team who in reality have won at present a league cup but the potential to win 4 cups. In my life I have saw the huns win trebles more than us winning against them including against Jock and MoN.
This huns team potentially have the opportunity to be the best huns team for 30 years or maybe the biggets bottlers....until proven im looking at the second option.
When you ask a question on this blog in support of our club none of the mineshafters who all think they are picked on answer.

scott brown is a bigger worry to me, cos of the fee.he plays like 'one of them' . I've never seen a celtic player that comes in late so often and stares at the opponent in a challeange to a fight.
he does it week in week out and he doesn't care about the bookings.
there was a newspaper story we turned down sam alardyce and his 12million on the seasons eve, - what a mistake that could turn out to have been.
he doesn't fit into a team because we have no team

I just typed out a big reply and blogger lost my post....yet another error; would swear but P67would delete another post of mine.
I agree that the prospect of a new manager is a nervy affair what we expect as Celtic supporters xpect is possibly unrealstic (to win every game \ title \ cup ....but that is the Celtic managers job......to win titles, cups and show well on the european stage.
Somewhere out there is another great manager such as Wenger, Ferguson, Stein or MON........the hard part is finding him and putting him at the helm of celtic. I trust in those with the power to find us that manager.....
sftb;
I don't think all the players are waltzing around whistling dixie during the game and have a dislike for Gordon, but when naylor can play as poorly as he does week in week out and not be dropped is it any suprise that we've guys who know they can deliver zilch, nada, zero every other weeka and still get a game.....it has to cause unrest and I reckon we see it on the field of play.
JVoH upped his game when Samaras appeared...many said so. Why did it take competition to see that in him?
Brown has been a shadow of the player he can be.....I just think thi is a guy who's like a kid in the park...get the ball out and lets play football......but he's presented with drawings and crayins and all sorts of tactical wizardy....just think teh guy doesn't look happy any longer and hasn't for quite some time
I might be 100% wrong but you can't tell me this team look like a bunch of guys who want to run to their manager when they score a goal as if they were one big happy family....it's only my opinion....crazzt as it may sound..but it's the only one I've got.

If MON had capitualted to a poor huns team due to inept signings, lack of tactical ability and a habit of continaully playing players who are off form or mince or both then yes I would have sacked him.
I repeat at no point in MON's tenure were we as depressingly poor as we are today.

Bhoy Molloy, you did always think Gordon Strachan was a loser, but you were wrong about him for two leagues and two Champions Leagues.
Both he and Martin won and lost leagues, one did well in the Uefa Cup and one in the CL, I fail to see the merit in painting a stark difference between the two which does not exist.

Boy Malloy (without the H)
fyi, GS took southampton to an FA cup final and their highest league position since the inception of the Premiership. After he left, they went into freefall and were relegated. Not even the much vaunted George Burley (who some on here would have us believe would've hammered Gordon Strachan had the jammed farts not sacked him mid season) has been able to get remotely close to what Gordon Strachan delivered for that club.
Some are so blind that they cannot see!

very unfair on wee ginger people you've been
tonight.
maybe we will bounce back on sunday. but i guess you've only weeks to wait until you get your new man.
then the fun will really start undoing what's been done.

We should always be measured by results against them.In my small minded opinion nothing else.
Not good enough Gordon. The Oppressed need ammunition.

swanseabhoy;
it's a very fair question......
If I seen my time fight like lions and give their all for the jersey in 99% of teh games they play and lose the title I'd think to myself it simply wasn't to be .....but I'd feel very proud of the team and the club and know we'd be back bigger, fitter, stronger and hungrier next season to win that title back.
If I seen a team play like we are and watch the same non performers play week in week out and watch a manager who really does seem to know how to change our fortunes then I'd say thank you.......time for a new manager.
I don't see a team right now that has the gritty taste for a fight or one that can go on a winning run of 7 games........I really hope I'm so wrong.....but I can only tell it like I see it.
I'm now away off to my scratcher.........cheers for the chat

Why were you going to watch Queen's Park during our dark years. If you mean our Hampden year did you not have a seat like everybody else.
That year was easy to take(at least we won the SC) compared to the previous 6 when we won hee haw meaning I was 24 before I could legally celebrate Celtic winning a trophy with a good drink.
