It's time FIFA made a new rule called the "penalty goal" like they have in Rugby.

If a defender handles the ball to stop it going into the net, he should of course be sent off, but a goal should be awarded, rather than a penalty. Obviously if it is a trip in the box, there is no guarantee that a goal was on, but with a hand ball on the line, it is definitely stopping a certain goal illegally. Where the player misses the penalty, the cheat has won. So how about it FIFA?

    Great fighting spirit by Celtic.

Just saw the end of game incident. McManus approached Ferguson to shake his hand and Bazza refuses and pushes Mick's hand away violently. McManus goes nose to nose and then lots of pushing.

If Bazza wasn't booked after that, there really is something remiis in Scottish Football.

Ah the bravery and dignity of Allan McGregor - soldiering on through extreme pain and getting treatment on the park.

OOPS - you just gave us time to score a goal hahahahah

We bullied them all night tonight and finally remember what it means to be CELTIC.

Even if it's not to be, season 08-09 already has a marker laid down.

Some often criticised players rose high tonight, McManus, Caldwell, JVofH can all build on this. What bravery from MacDonald (who had a stinker) to calmly nod into the path of JVofH.

Robson has to start every game from now on. I thought his spirit and the fight in him was what we missed for many a game this season.

There might be red cards for Caldwell and Weir, supposedly the ref has issue some cards in the dressing room.

Off to get a drink and celebrate.

3 in a row here we come.

    MOTM Naka.

One of the goals of the season so far.

Then another classic goal - denied only by the Cuellar handball.

Other standouts - Robson, McGeady, Caldwell

  • At 16/04/08 22:07, Blogger Cubist Funk said…

    Delighted - great effort.

Justice was done in the end but we made heavy weather of it second half. Mitigation - it's difficult to play when the game is so interupted.

3 points for us - a red card and injured keeper for them.

    Gordon blows away the jinx.

derbyshirebhoy - just about to write the same - Stephen McManus was off his head at the end - most of the players were VERY wound up at the end

    BBC stats

    CELTIC RANGERS

    Possession
    62% 38%

    Shots on target
    4 2

    Shots off target
    5 3

    Corners
    11 5

    Fouls
    13 11

Thought Mark Wilson did well getting forward - also big compliment to Scott McD - kept playing after the penalty miss - very composed header back across 6 yd box for JVOH

What a bonus if Gary Caldwell and Weir are red-carded - it would allow us to play either Darren O'Dea or Bobo, and for them to be missing both Weir and Cuellar for their next game.

First post so go easy on me...

Celtic were superb tonight. In the first half in particular we threatened to run riot.

Some big performances from players who have been heavily critisised. Caldwell had one of his best games in a Celtic shirt.

WIth Cuellar being out for the next one and now possibly Weir, things are looking up...

Nice to see Naka back on form and I thought that he looked exellent when he was moved into a more central role and in fact, I think that he is better when playing central, any thoughts?

Felt even better to snatch it in the dying seconds.

    Hail Hail

    HAIL, HAIL

Watching the Setanta footage of the after-match tosh, the skipper of Dignity FC, Barry Ferguson raised hands to the skipper of Celtic FC Stephen McManus.

Celtic won that match fair and square, in the face of outright cheating from the alleged player of the Year, Carlos Cuellar, who denied Shunsuke Nakamura a superb second goal, which would only have been outshone by his outstanding initial strike.

Cuelllar's suspension will be significant, as he has kept the Rangers defence together, and the injury to keeper McGregor is a sair yin for them.

Outstanding from Celtic tonight. Let's have more of the same.

STANDING UP...jumping up and down with my brother

Which, no matter how ye look at it, is quite a trick!

    I think that makes sense?.....

    Wherever,ye are!

    Yep...like I said yesterday....and everyday...

Celtic, had been absolutely DE-SPIRITED for so long...but, they made a 180... against Motherwell...and that convinced me, that they had regained their long lost ...... ESPRIT DE CORPS!
And they have done nothing this eve...to convince me,to change my conclusion...

    Celtic are Back...

    And ,look out Nellie....

    It ain't ovah...'til it's ovah...

So rest yer tonsils a wee while yet, hen!

    Hail Hail All!

What a game, great effort by all. thank the Football gods for that late winner. I have to say I was giving JVOH pelters from my living room sofa all night. Just goes to show you you that maybe wee gordon deserves more credit. I would have hooked him early into the second half. Thought Naka took some real confidence from the goal and was much more calm on the ball and willing to take that extra wee second to find a good pass. I thought Andreas Hinkel was superb tonight, composure personified throughout the whole game.

Big Gary Caldwell - oh how your ears must have been burning throughout the last 20 mins... I was mumbling and moaning for most of them to my girlfriend(who then left the room :)) my main complaint being your insistence on hanging onto the ball then deciding to loft it into the box, when hinkel naka hartley etc were all calling for it. Thank the lord your a stubborn man, great ball in and fair play to wee scotty for the great back header.

Anyone else have a delayed celebration? I was waiting for that wee numpty gilmore on the line to raise his wee flag again, oh how he loved to raise it.

Anyway, the bird is no longer talking to me, she reckons the neighbours are annoyed with me after the winner, let out an almighty roar followed by numerous GIRFUY!!

Come on! lets see how the can handle the pressure!

P.S I hate Ally McCoist. Fair enough he was funny on the lyin BBC's question of sport so my hatred for the fat one had subsided a small bit. but I am tired of his winking, cheating attitude and I am convinced he is behind their cheating tactics. When you all watch the re-run of the game, keep an eye out for him when cousin is coming on, rubbing his "pretend watch" and winking in the same manner of the ibrox game when cousin tried to take off mcmanus's head.

finally...the cheaters didn't win. perhaps its paradise...many a cheating team has tried that carry on and were sent packin.

There is only one rrrrrrreally good way to win these games and we’ve just watched it.

Apologies for the personal data that made it onto the above article; trying to get round the blogger issue I scheduled an email to arrive but forgot to remove my signature. !*!*!

    Joy... sheer bloody Joy!

Fantastic performance by the Celts against Cheat Fc. They got what they deserved.

Final whistle goes then Captain Fantastic (who was non existent the whole match) starts a brawl and then snakes his way out of view. Weir and Caldwell end up getting sent off. Nice one Bazza your a great example to young kids.

ps Ulster Celt I agree with your comments I can't stand that useless Spanish Hun.

    Hail Hail

Thought Caldwell had a great game tonight. Red card obviously ruins a good night for him. Other stand out's Naka, McGeady and Robson.

Neil Lennon's celebration at the goal. Never seen him move that quick!

Squeaky bum time for the Orcs.

    Hail Hail.

Just back - what a night!

Thought we played well in thh first half and should have had the game won by half time. Naka's goal was special.

Second half we let them back into it. The penalty was so poor and we didn't make too many chances after that.

I thought the substitution was strange. Robson was having a fine game and I would have left him on, taking one of the back four off.

What happened after the game? Saw a few fights break out but it was hard to pick out who was involved. BBC Scotland had only rumours, no facts.

BTW - did anyone get a picture of the banner at half time - "Scotland's Shame" and an arrow pointing to the huns. Sheer class!

We must use this win as a platform and begin enforcing our superiority. Need better penetration. Good idea to use the space created by Huns doubling on Aidan to allow Naka to roam, but why not vary more and, eg, also allow, Aidan to move inside, or over to the right, and Robson to take up the left flank on occasion - he coud do a Thommo from there. 2 things I noticed -

    1- Wilson, nearly a villain, at fault for the goal but great overlaps (though hampered by crossing with his left), and he also played one delightful chip over the top to McDonald(?). He delayed a throw in injury time, when everyone was baying for him to rush it, to make sure his throw led to Celtic possession, and a few passes later we scored;

2- Caldwell, part-hero for providing the cross for the winner: however, I felt that for all his willingness to go forward, he took too much out of the ball (as ever) and slowed moves down without being able to play a good pass. I like centre halves to dd to the attack, but he should know his limits and move the ball swiftly to a better distributor (ie anyone except Mick). I'm not trying to run the guy down, I think he is an honest player with great heart but it worries me that he's encouraged to do this.

According to Real Radio phone in on Setanta Nacho Ned was sent off in the tunnel along with another as yet un-named player! Both Caldwell and Weir have been reported in addition to this, they weren't the players that were sent off!

Best moment of the night, other than the unveiling of the 'Scotlands Shame' banner at half time, was Neil Lennon's reaction at both the goals. He went charging down the touchline celebrating, never seen him move so fast in 6 years as a player

Celtic - don't you just love them?
But - why do we always choose to do it the hard way?
We have opponents, but none who equal ourselves.
Naylor instead of a fit Wilson. Why?
An off-form SMcD (for several months) instead of Samars' ability, skill and movemont?
Take off Barry Robson, hardly our worst player with both bite and spite (good on you Barry) and - (panic stations?) - change the sacrosanct "shape". After more than 2 and a half seasons.
The players won the match tonight, despite the "best" efforts of the manager!

And I'm not even his biggest critic!

Did anyone cover more ground, more effectively, than Paul Hartley, and not for the first time?

Shall we win the SPL? - Don't know.

Can we win the SPL? Very definitely.

One suggestion - stop giving the ball to Aiden unless we also offer support. It's bad enough opponents have caught on and double-up, at least, but we never seem to give him support and, therefore, options.

Gordon Strachan loves to talk about good teammates. If Aiden had any he would be seen to be twice the player he is now.

For me Aiden and Nakamura are becoming like Willie Fernie - don't pass to where we are, pass to where we should be - copyright CHARLES PATRICK TULLY - never famed for his modesty.

    Cheers

    Alex

just in from game. great stuff from the lhads tonight. special mentions to naka for a wonderful goal, robbo for a sterling shift, skippy for never hiding, and wilson for keeping the heid.

from my view it looked like caldwell swung a punch at the end, so would not be surprised if he is red carded.

big question now is how the huns deal with it.

and huge kudos to the "scotland's shame->" banner pointing at the huns.

    genius!

    Thank you soooo much Celts.

Any manager stands or falls on his substitutions, so lets praise GS for his - it worked,& that's what he is paid for.

Was delighted that Mick took none of Ferguson's nonsense at the end -its about time that he stood up to the wee toerag

This game of course doesnt mean much if we dont beat the dons on Saturday

I sit in the front row of the Lizbin Lions Upper and a bunch of guys from further back brought the "Scotland's Shame" banner down at half time and asked us to help them, which of course we did. Did it make it onto TV?

Just home from game, outstanding result, we deserved it no problem. 1st half we were excellent, what a goal from naka, rangers offered nothing much. Have not felt so good at half time in a long while at Celtic Park.
Nifty banner at half time Scotland's Shame and a big arrow pointing 2 tfod, cops pulled it down of course, no sense of humour.
Anyhow 2nd half continued 2 dominate but nohope scored a good 1, but i was sure a celtic player was fouled b4 this. Lost our way a bit after this but got back in2 it. Naka should have made it 2-1 but Cuellar cheated and stopped it going in, then we missed the penalty, nightmare, but what a finish. Bet those who left early are feeling daft now, silly people. A victory for all that is good, some pride back and not having to hear from smug gers friends, quality.
Thanks 4 that Celtic, thanks 4 everything.

    Hail hail
