As much as I think McGregor is way overrated by the laptop loyal, he has been huge for the Huns this season and has undoubtedly won a few points for them. If he is out for the rest of the season, Smith will be in panic mode because Neil Alexander is nothing to write home about.
Is the luck finally running out for the Huns?
If so, couldn't have happened at a better time.
-
Aberdeen are in turmoil and we should be looking to hammer them and boost the GD.
I'm glad we are facing them tomorrow and not later in the season, possibly when they have sorted things out.
Frankly if we can't beat a team that ships 4 goals to QotS, we don't deserve to win the league.
-
WinningGemmell :- From last thread.
It would just be shear coincidence of course that it just fell open at that date.
Would it by any chance also have fallen open at ant specific game? Was there one of notice that year :-)
-
Celtic can beat Aberdeen, they know they have to, and it's a momentum thing right now for the Hoops, a case of building some up in many ways.
Are the Aberdeen players going to be putting themselves in the shop window tomorrow as they don't have much to play for in terms of silver and many won't be playing for the manager, so Celtic just have to make sure they win.
I'd be more concerned about Aberdeen's last fixture of the season.
STANDING UP..so I'll sing a song of liberty

Pablo/pfayr - thanks for that lads.
There are three reasons that I don't get into blog master debating :-
1) I'm snowed under with work and I don't know how some of the guys find the time to follow the blog, never mind get into long-running heated arguements;
2) I'm more comfortable with the spoken word than the written (engineering graduate who was ridiculously poor at english and probably still is);
3) I once called Kano a "cyber hard-fud" on here because of the aggresive nature of his posts! (believe me, you don't want to do that!).
The ex-pat lads get quite irate about things on here. I briefly met Kitalba in BB's last year - nice lad, but you get the feeling that he doesn't take prisoners!!
Gordon & WG are already proving tonight what I said earlier about learning stuff about the club and our history.
Ed - bearing in mind the fixture situation, coupled with injuries & suspensions, are you still as confident about the treble?
I'm also curious about something - pick one : a strong chance of a treble or a place in the UEFA Cup Final with the possibility of your first European trophy in 36 years?
You decide (in daft Geordie accent)!
TTTT
-
He has been a top player for them. But lets just win 5 out of 5 and lets see how the Huns(sorry edwardUrsus)Cope with the tension. RC , Mouldy67 ,Bull67 we would Love it just Love it if we beat them..................
-
We will now be playing a team without McGregor and Cuellar - their best two players. Weir is now 1 booking away from a 3 match ban - he'll be walking a tightrope.
McCulloch will be out and Ferguson is clearly still carrting an injury.
Adam, though not a great player, hinders their options.
Its a late assualt towards the tile but certainly one thats gathering momentum.

Aha the mountain and molehill scenario !
I've thought of little else since Wednesday.
I've been working hard on The Project and got by the 1937-38 Season earlier this week :
25 December 1937
Scottish League
Celtic 8 Kilmarnock 0
5 March 1938
Scottish Cup
Celtic 1 Kilmarnock 2
Our history is littered with the implausible and not all good. A week or so after Good Shepherd Sunday, the Bad Shepherds return to The Dale of Kerry,The Field Of Dreams, The Garden of Eden. Complacency was the first sin therein and we've been toiling ever since.
They have nothing to lose. We have everything to lose. Fig leaves for starters.

Sorry to be a pest, but, Mr Strachan, today, requested information from the SFA on, who in his team were cautioned after the final whistle of the
(glorious victory)glasgow derby.
The SFA have advise that Celtic have been informed officially.
This dispute is now being censored by setanta sports news, can anyone advise if its just setanta????
Oh can anyone tell me if theres a bookies that will give me odds on rev McCurry being in charge of the final glasgow derby game???

Rangers team for next derby:
Neil Alexander
Kirk Broadfoot Weir Dailly Papac
Hemdani
Novo Davis Ferguson Thomson?

canamalar - I believe craig thomson will take charge, I good ref on what i've seen so far.

I also had a peek at 'It's Rangers For Me', some seriously flawed stuff in there.
This is true - whilst I was browsing the Davie Provan chapter a good friend of mine (Celtic-daft) came up to me and started nattering away. I'd have preferred if I'd been caught wi Arthur Lee's Larkhall Readers Wives anthology.....
-
TTTT :- I'd have to pick the UEFA. With rare exceptions titles get sgared out roughly 50/60 so the title would come again but as you said, the first time in 36 years.
On whether we will take the treble I still have to say yes. Two first division teams in the cup and we still have the advantage in the league. What worries me most is the abcence of A. McGregor he has pulled us through a good couple of times. So maybe not as confident but still aprehensively confident :-)

I also believe that Kevin Thomson is suspended for the next league game.

WinningGemmell :- I can only blame inebriated fingers :-)

They have options.
Could be
Alexander
Whittaker Weir Dailly Smith/Papac
Hemdani/Thompson
Novo Davis Ferguson Naismith
Darcheville
Still leaves them subs of Broadfoot, Burke, Buffel,Cousin, Webster (?) & Boyd plus whoever does not play from above pairs.
We need to get Aberdeen out of the way first but it will be another tough game when it comes about.
We've had McCurry's one sided heavy handed refereeing and Kenny Clark's liberal interpretation of what constitutes a foul. I think we'll be under discipline pressure again and our tackling will need to be hard but not as blatant as some were last weekend. That was what was needed then. Cool heads needed for the next one but Aberdeen first.
Lee Miller is our immediate danger.
-
Thomson is definitely suspended for the next game at Celtic Park.
I predict this team for Rangers:
Alexander
Broadfoot Dailly Weir Papac
Hemdani
Whittaker Ferguson Hemdani Davis
Darcheville
Hemdani has been looking like a man who doesn't play regular football in recent European games, and Davis is no left-winger.
As much of a ned that he is, Novo causes us the same problems that Lovenkrands did. Should he come on or start, I expect Robson or Hartley to absolutely flatten him within 30 seconds.
-
Craxa
You have Hemdani playing twice.
I think that takes him over the appearance limit and Rankers have to pay him extra. Also means that, if he gets sent off, he can stay on the pitch.

Glad to see a bit of perspective.
I was beginning to think that majority of Ranger's fans wanted the league title the most.At least that's the impression they give.
I remember being gutted THAT day at Motherwell but nowhere near as gutted as walking out that stadium in Seville as I ,like you, thought that at least we will win the league again.I have no memory of euro finals and being in my 40's now realised there was a real chance I would never see my team lift a Euro trophy. I simply can't believe that any Ranger's fan sees the treble or indeed the league as more important than a Euro final.

Much as I agree that Novo should be cemented early I think the ref whoever he is will be looking for this kind of challenge and we may, if we're not careful , end up down to 10 men very early in the game.

A sense of caution is never a bad thing at such crucial times however I feel that the example you gave of Celtic's composure slipping after those tumultuous matches we won with so little to spare, could also be true of the Dons. Indeed Aberdeen found a fine scalp in dumping us from the cup but this was then their chance of competing in a cup final against Rangers if it all went as most expect it would. But the ultimate sucker punch was delivered by QOS in an extraordinary match you only see the likes of in Roy of the Rovers and I feel that this along with all matter of background shenanigans should present Celtic with the ideal opportunity to avenge that unfortunate night. Yes Celtic were at their best on wednesday night in that they added the final ingredient to their game, blood & guts, until then the footbal had been exquisite in places but no fight backed it up, this is in place now and it's a grand old thing to see.
I hope that aberdeen have only one game on their minds and it falls on May 18

why are you apologising to Ed for the word hun, Ed is a hun, he is proud to support his team regardless of the history and has no problem with the connotations with said history. I guess it is possible we will not get away with the kind of challenge Barry Robson announced to the world. All the same, we should try and wind him up. We have seen how much of a hot head that he is, a bit of ankle-biting, a shove or two, some words in his ear, and then all it will take will be one wee trick from Aiden and his two-footed lunges will come out, resulting in an early bath.
-
I am quite happy to be shouted down, but the main reason that I (and others of far greater imagination and talent) post rarely is because of the naval-gazing self serving nature of the leading posts.
Paul and I have met on a number of occasions, and I have in the main agreed with his drift and thrust.
But over the last few months we have become an anti-rangers site and not a pro-Celtic medium.
Unfortunately Paul has decided to accept this baton and has run with it. And now that we have a wee glimmer of light in a universal season of bland opaqueness, now that we want a thousand supporters to to do what the word defines, and now that we want a million hearts to burst just once in the way that we demand the heart of each and every player should do, what do we get?

Pablo,
As you probably have sussed, I am not into negativity. But to use the phraseology of someone who posts from beyond the pond....HOWEVAH
I am, as each of us is, a Celtic supporter.
Football and Celtic does not need 'managed expectations', it does not need ' a dose of reality', and it definitely doesn't need a 'pace back to see the oil painting of perspective'.
Celtic is our passion, Celtic is our dream, Celtic is our ambition and Celtic is our essence.
Win. lose or draw!
Win regularly, lose sometimes, draw occasionally, but Celtic for ever!
Self-belief in the team has little to do with any of that.
Faith in what we were built on, where the walls were heading and the stained glass depictions of where we came from and the demons that were defeated on the way, well that is what made me a Celtic Supporter.
Possibility of defeat? I leave that to others.
Handling defeat? Pile that on me!

If Celtic were taken over by a despicable element, would you find it so easy to simply walk away and find another team? An emotional bond is formed between supporter and team, almost akin to, dare I say it, a child and the parents.
EdwardUrsus may not believe in a fenian-blood-spilling Rangers, but in his heart he holds his vision of Rangers, an honest-to-goodness vision, and with every beat of his heart, it spreads a little more blue around his body.
How can you let that kind of bond just break?

There is without a doubt a toxic attitude towards the Celtic football club, those who support(ed) it, and those who see value in its founding principles.
To see this as an all embracing Scottish Conspiracy is untenable.
I am Scottish from a 'Fenian' background and proud of both.
I have many freinds who are Protestant, Catholic, Episcopalian, Baptist and none of the above but all Scottish and all Celtic Supporters.
I also have family who hale from Bray, Galway and by God even Coatbridge!

Antipathy towards us and our kind - and the virtue of being a Celtic supporter is that 'our kind' transcends boundaries that were artificially created to destroy a set of values rather than a group of people - comes from bigots NOT from Scots!

From all the time I have read his posts, I don't think he is some sort of violent anti-catholic. The fact that a sizeable amount of the fans of Rangers are, has no consequence. EU sees something in the club that keeps him going back game after game. It is quite likely he was raised as a Rangers fan rather than choosing it in later life, but that changes nothing. If he didn't love something about Rangers, he wouldn't keep supporting them. The same reason we are all here today supporting Celtic, something keeps bringing us back, through highs and lows.
Would you rather ridicule and banish the few good fans that Rangers have, such as EU? And if so, why?

every celtic supporter I know and most of england know what TFOD stand for. I am not sure how much longer I can keep this going, but let me try once again.
There are many bigots in Scotland.
There are also many Scottish Celtic Supporters. There are many good people who are not Celtic Supporters.
There is also a spectrum of the Celtic support who despise everything Scottish.
Such is life's colourful palette.
Those who decide to view things only in black and white are missing so much of the rainbow's magical kaleidoscope!
There are things worth fighting for and one of them is the future of a country that our forefathers settled in.
That was a shock to the entrenched attitudes of the residents, but there again it would have been the same if the Moors had invaded Spain. or the Christians had attacked Saladin, or woe upon woe if the Israelis and Palestinians had found something to be fractious about.
Now what about getting rid of the English Anglicans.

Black is not a colour and white is the combination of every colour so if I see everything in white it means I got the rainbow. Sympathisers to unjust organisations only perpetuate the injustice and ensure the continuation. Wether they seem like nice people or not. Lots of people could have told you Hitler was a nice guy.

I leave you with a fond farewell, a recollection that celts with a hard 'c' all came from the plains of northern Europe and a prayer for your soul!

Ye can keep your toon tae wander roon, ye can keep your cities fair,
ye can keep your land-locked burns and lochs, cos the place to stand and stare
is where the sand and the rock strewn shore, meet the pools of foam filled life,
where the breakers beat and the seagulls scream and the wind cuts like a knife.
Aff ye go ye romantic lud, yer winds are full of pain,
for colours on the hills abound and life comes wae the rain,
where the heather’s green, the bracken’s brown and the mosses every hue,
where the land beneath my feet is sod and the earth is rich and true.
Yer both of ye well aff the mark, ye've held our country down,
the place tae see the heart of man is the city and the town,
where coal and iron fashioned lives, where the smiddies’ hammer’s call,
formed ships of steel, from calloused hands and made this world so small.
Whit’s a’ this row yer spouting forth, wae selfish ignorance,
yer senses miss the subtleties of nature’s simple dance,
each step and twirl, each bow and spin, each partner on the floor,
is touched by music’s haunting spell and the sum of parts is more.
For no wan colour shades the map, no wan contour its height,
no wan sound and no wan voice has a stranglehold on right,
like daein’ a jigsaw in the dark, nae box tae gie us clues,
the task’s tae find the place to fit each bit we huvnae used.

I've never claimed to be an historian and am wondering why I would know about the word in english/greek/russian or any other misinterpretation?
wikipedia, never done it and was told it can be changed by the last viewer so dont use it.
But yourself and TNT seem well genned up so could one of you give me a sentence on it, please?

Not to worry, I don't assume everyone knows what it means!
Wikipedia gives a basic overview, but I can understand that it's not the most definite point of reference.
Stakhanovite was in reference to the name for exceptional workers during the Stalin era of the Soviet Union. Named after the basis for it, Aleksei Grigoryevich Stakhanov, it was given to people who performed heroic feats of labour and who excelled and produced results far beyond those of the norm. Some of their methods used to achieve these feats were only later discovered after the period of 'glasnost' at the end of the Soviet Union, and slightly tainted their achievements.
This is the first link I found from a google search, it might give you further details.

Life as a Celtic supporter would be boring if we didn't have the Huns to complain about. Not only that they make us feel better about ourselves, saves paying for expensive therapy. God bless the Huns I say, best of all is when we win the league through adversity and cheating MIB victory is so much sweeter I wouldn't have it any other way,

estadio,
beautiful words, but our freedom to express ourselves was won by martyrs, my right to speak and dissent is bathed in the blood of my forefathers, the fight is not done and the fabian society would not exist wothout the blood of revolutionaries.
I'd love to see evolution take our society forward, but my interpretation of the trends of scottish society is that it is becoming more insular and less tolerant towards my kind, this country would have muslim royalty before a catholic. The law exists to exclude only catholics.
The queen is first amongst equals, but not allowed to be catholic, therefore, a catholic cannot be an equal in his/her country of birth.
As a republican in the literal sense I do not like the argument, but cant think of a better one to analogise.

we're gonna win the league

ctaxa/narrowbhoat, cheers for taking the time.
Ed, I am honestly confuse by your choice and abhor what your club represent historically and what appears to be a majority outlook even today.
Its like I abhor what capitilism represents and am confused how any intellegent person can tell me that equalibrium can ever exist, for the exact same argument as the capitalist tells me human nature will not allow socialsim cant exist.
To me capitalism represents greed,
your club represents oppression.
pass me the toilet paper.

I do not hate Ed, I hate his choice and the conditions required to make his choice look attractive.
I will fight to protect his right to his choice, but will not give succour to his misadventure.

Urgent
Ian
Following the unplanned result Wednesday, the fixture pile up for Walter and the loss of a few players, drastic action is needed at the Aberdeen game tomorrow.
To even the playing field and ease the pressure on our team can I politely request that you book a few players tomorrow or send them off making them ineligible for our next league game against Celtic.
Concentrate on a few vital players in the squad and ensure we weaken them for the run in.
Players to focus on:
Boruc has been flapping at some crosses this year and could be contravening the edicts on inciting the fans. ;-)
McManus gives the opposing captain a hearty handshake at the coin toss. This should be deemed dangerous play and a yellow card is well deserved. That should stop him from making a full blooded tackle during the game.
JVOH (How the hell could I spell his name, he's not even Scottish). Walter pointed out to me that when he undeservedly scored the winner on Wednesday, he dived on to his knees. This is obviously an overt religious display influenced by the bead rattlers at Parkhead, and as such it should be punished with a red card. As Kenny did not do it, I suggest you do so, and if it's in the tunnel before the game we would be very happy.
Robson also clearly deserved a card for his tackle in the first minute. Not only was it dangerous but also ageist. I suggest you give him a yellow card when you get the teamsheets.
We are all relying on you Ian and believe me when I say that your actions will not be forgotten in high places here.
Your good friend
Duffield.

Paul an honest post. Also keep up the pressure on the huns. Anything anti hun gets my vote.
Living in west lothian i see the bigotry and scum behaviour every day, red white and blue paving stones orange flags etc. Thank god i can escape to civilised gweedore every few weeks.
I was caught up in a traffic hold up last saturday due to a massive orange walk out our way. i went down a side street and three wee boys where walking past a car when three men who you could only describe as attractively challenged dressed like toy soldiers with extremly tight trousers proceeeded to shout
Get out my way ya wee bead ratteling tattie munching bxxxxx.
The crime two boys had hun tops on one the hoops.
The majority of huns are scum as we all witnessed on wednesday we should never ever give them an inch.
Now to the game Aberdeen are a strange team and it is hit and miss which version wil turn up.
We must keep the momentum going but some issues will impact on that
Caldwell for all his faults is a better defender and organiser than mick.
With Caldwell out then i hope we go with balde rather than odea for no other reason than someone with a bit of authority needs to keep mick focussed.
Naylor may be out and wilson is a bit short of match practice but i am pretty confident he will do the job.
Hartley carried a a knock into the huns game and may miss today. Please strachan do not be tempted to play that imposter Donatie. If anything go with Sno to partner robson.
Looks like JVOH will be out so a chance for GG.
Now Mcdonald i love the guy but he is running on empty, infact the orange light came on a good few games ago and while i would start him is it time to bring on hutchison second half?
We must maintain the tempo. i know not easy after such a pasionate game but victory is needed to make sure the manky mob can't win it next sunday. Lets make sure they have to wait for as long as possible and who knows the miracle may happen.

Can someone please help.
I'm looking for a tried and trusted source to watch the game on PC , as I'm in Germany and no Setanta today.
I've tried one or two previously but they never seem to work.
Thanks

TTTT:
Read your retort and good one too. But in saying my post was condescending of you can’t you see the irony where I think your post was condescending of John Reid.
It was not my intention to be condescending (I was merely taking a little ump over your ‘do I work for the club’ jibe) and if it annoyed you I apologise. Again it was not my intent but reading back I can see how you took it so.
I have done you the courtesy of a ‘sincere’ apology please allow me the same in explanation of my perpetual stance vis-à-vis Celtic and Scotland.
First though I would thank you not to invite me to call you a ‘hun’. I never passed assertions on your Celtic credentials. Just for the record – I have never, under any name, called any poster on here or anywhere else a hun. To imply by innuendo, whether deliberate or not, that on that count I have previous, does me an injustice.
Back to the explanation.
When it comes to Celtic, and the politics of Celtic, I am as far to the right as I can possibly go. I make no apology in that. Being ‘right-wing’ in Celtic, does not in any way impair my ability to assess the individual, and collective, efforts of our board.
Like you I have been around here for quite some time; in my case, since Paul’s very first article. I first posted the night Jimmy Johnstone passed on.
Since the very beginning I have been constantly aware that this is indeed the most public of forums. Open to any of any persuasion. What is said here is not kept here; it is often taken (often verbatim) and regurgitated (often with a derisory spin) elsewhere.
I have always been careful of what I say on here and any frustrations that I may feel towards my club I keep to myself or discuss them in a face to face environment.
I try hard not to feed those who would most do us harm with the ammunition with which to do it.
Now if others wish to post stuff which can easily be lifted and used against them. So be it - that - is their prerogative. THEIR individual conscience is their judge of what is appropriate and that which is not. But in posting, their posts are then open to retort, just as mine are.
To a separate issue: a poster of late, whom I was going to reply to, but didn’t have time at the time.
(I’m not being rude, I just can’t remember who it was that wrote the post)
A poster said that it was easier for the Celtic supporters who did not live in the West of Scotland to accept our present situation.
Not true. It may not be harder but I don’t think it is any easier. We have Rangers supporters and huns here in Australia too. We have Orange Men and masons too.
(Twice I tested that link to the masons and twice it worked. Twice I posted it and twice it screwed up. So I’ve cut it. ???)
They are on the streets too as well as on the web pages. We might not get it in the face as much as you guys back home. But we still get it. They are best ignored but they are not idle.
Pfayr:
I might be posting under a misapprehension; I thought you were an Ayrshire Procurator Fiscal. Apologies if I got that wrong.
I replied to one of your posts that was apportioning blame on Lee Naylor and Scott Brown for Motherwell’s winning goal against us. You think that was Lillian – that is your prerogative but I still think both of them were blameless.

Five games left and all Celtic can do is collect 15 points. Mr Brines is ironing his blue outfit at this moment. He will try to upset us, don`t fall for it! :-)
Today will be a fair test. Come on Celts!
-
GreenwellsGlory :- You have me beaten on that one.
-
Southbhoy, I fear Aberdeen are falling apart and will be in no shape to compete for anything come 18 May.
My hope is that they have better players than their results suggest which may count against us today and against Rangers next month. At least this time Jimmy Calderwood will have a support to answer to if his team fails to compete on the last day.
Estadio, averaging 3 articles a day, you can only stretch positive material so far.
Gweedore, thanks, I have no intention of letting up on them.
-
Ed:
I really enjoyed the game the other night, no doubt you didn’t but what were your views on your own teams performance?
-
Estadio and Canamalar enjoyed your discussions. It does show what a diverse family we come from. I come from a big family , I am lucky. The priest at my Mum and Dads wedding said that my brigton kin , the ones that had the courage and foresight to step into a Church , would have made good Catholics , some of my cousins go to Ibrox and have partners who hail hail in Celtic Park. So Donegal was joined with Skye. That was a long time ago and things have changed for our familes but not for the greater community. There is too much bigotry , bias and blatant anti Celtic sentiments and by too many of the people in Power who we expect to lead. I experienced this again when I brought my own family home for three years , I keep hoping that time and years will allow chnage to happen but it doesn't. It will take a real shake of our political , media and sporting hierarchies to change a single thing. Scotland's shame indeed.
Back to the football. Estadio I think that Paul is only trying to bring some balance to the extremes with his small hits at rangers after the hits we've takem from everywhere. This blog is about tempering expectations and I thinks he's spot on , its not a def three pointer , even after Wednesday. I regard Paul as a very good reader of the mood amongst the Celtic family and he tries to put a balance to the headliners so that we can have our say to the right ,left ,centre and far away. Cheers Paul. Canamalar I don't disagree with your republican views or anger at Scottish society but unlike you and more like Estadio I am a proud Scot and Celtic man. Its not exclusive.

Ahhh magic...just back from a long walk with the pooch and devoured the rolls and sausage washed down with a large mug of coffee. Now about to get ready, hit the boozers for a few pints and then head off to the game. I feel a great Saturday coming on.
Yes Aberdeen are hurting after last week, and yes the won (fortunately) the last time they played at Parkhead....but I think we now have a scent for something special. No coincidence that the results of the last 2 games have been built on a team that has handled the physical aspects of the game and allowed the better quality of the Celtic players go on and do the business. Its a shame to have to say that at this stage of the season...however all is not lost yet.
Same again today Celts.

Being KO'd by QOS & 11 players not getting their contracts renewed, Aberdeen are teetering on implosion for the remainder of this season, an early goal and it could be 5 or 6 today.

i don't want to downplay anyone's experience of high level bigotry in scotland, but i haven't experienced anything like that in a long time....admittedly i only spend about half the year in scotland, and even then not in the west coast, but i just don't see any evidence of this bigotry....not at a high level, and my business exposure brings experiences from all over Scotland....
the naked sectarian bigotry we see from some rangers supporters and from the OO is surely only carried out by the knuckledraggers.....it seems to me that nowadays there is nothing like the bias and bigotry exhibited by industry and elements of the state that existed in the past....
-
Gary67 - your one goal up on me...I'll settle for your score.
The only slight concern I have with the situation at Aberdeen is that, no one should ever underestimate the beast that is a footballer about to go out of contract. We've all been duped here before and thought a player going out of contract was a thoroughbread...as soon as the new contract is signed, it turns back to a donkey!

I've struggled to keep up with the blog recently, so apologies if this has already been discussed.
If the season is extended (and I don't for one second believe it shoud be) then surely it would have to be extended for all clubs so that a club does not gain the advantage of knowing what result is required. This effects both the champions and the UEFA Cup spot, and I believe is now standard practice. Remember in the 1978 World Cup when Argentina played Peru knowing they had to win by four goals, and ultimately won 6-0.
-
Its quite ironic that injuries and suspensions are forcing WGS to play the team that everyone has been screaming for recently, and lo and behold they do like they have a chance of pulling this off.
A team containing
Boruc
Hinkel
Balde
McManus
Wilson
Naka
Hartley
Robson
Aiden
Samaras
JVOH/McDonald
seems to be the strongest team by a roughly general concensus.
However WGS has made a tactical masterstoke in giving Naka the "Lubo" role in the last few games, so credit where credit is due. I personally think this has had a bigger impact than the enforced personnell changes, as no one seems to be able to pin the wee man down and he has had a major impact in the last two games.
I have no doubt that they will drop at least the 7 points required for us to win the league on goal difference.
It is back in our own hands again.
Celtic 7 Sheep 0
-
StoirMhaChroi :- I thought the main difference was in Celtic, they didn't give our players time on the ball and in midfield tended to pick up the second ball most of the time. We were outfought by a team that seemed to want the result more.
Much as it's a sickener to lose in the last minute like that I can't say the result was unfair.
-
barcabhoy
think you have answered your own point there mate
if you dont spend any time in the west coast of scotland your are ulikely to experience the bigotry that goes on here
it is not publicised by the scottish meeja as it is still accepted as the norm, so unless you see it first hand you wont hear about it.
-
Some interesting discussion on the night shift about what it means to support a football team, and in particular us and them.
Loyalty to a team, may well start in childhood, but I know have come across ex Rangers fans who simply stopped supporting the club when they were old enough to realise what it stood for. And other CQNers have reported knowing similar people. I have never met an ex Celtic fan who has left the club in the same way.
I think this difference demonstrates the very real gulf that separates the history of the two clubs. We all know what our club stands for and are rightly proud of our history of inclusiveness and being open to all.
And everyone knows what they stand for. The protestant supremacy, open bigotry and only being dragged a little way from that stance by the football authorities. The bile that spewed from their support on Wednesday demonstrated just how far their support has moved – not that far! Booing a song sung in memory of the Hillsborough dead and the Famine reference show exactly what they are all about.
For me every adult supporter of that club has made a choice. Either they follow the club because they support the bigotry, or they are apologists for bigots, or they bury their head and pretend that it is just another football club.
-
-
Barcabhoys , that is very good to hear. I hope that your experiences are shared by more rather than less people.
I am not particularily keen on exposing my own personal experiences that have grounded my opinions but what about just looking at a few simple but real facts from People in power
A Catholic cannot be King or Queen (or Prime Minister , I am not sure)
The procurator fiscal went quite far in examining a case against a Celtic goalkeeper for blessing himself.
The recent Herald newspaper headliner about bead rattlers and the focus on the coin throwing incident without muchado about the pototoes thrown onto the field by rangers fans. This might be the media pandering to the masses but surely people in power read the papers and have a duty to do something. Perception is reality.
If you don't think that the SFA have done as much as they can without actually awarding points to Rangers , see Aidens bookings versus Bazza , games away and home , will an extension of the season convince you even slightly.
Barca I am a positive guy , I think I am fairly well grounded and I always look on the bright side . I do think Scotland , maybe the West more than anywhere else , has a way to go for me not to think of Scotland shame....but I hope your reality is more right than mine.
Hail Hail
-
I don't like having a go at other CQN posters, but am I the only one whose blood was boiling reading the first two sentences of the second paragraph of this post from Lurgan53.
There was me thinking the whole Celtic-minded thing was 95% an invention from our cretinous sports media with Keevins in particular leading by example, and then I read this. I agree that O'Leary should not be allowed to darken the door at Celtic Park but only because purely and simply he is a quite hopeless football manager. To describe his lack of affinity with the club as being more important than this is utterly disgraceful.
-
Team selection is vital.
I applaud the manager for sticking with his preferred centre back paring because I think both will delevope into a fine partnership. I wish fans would get off their backs. However when one is missing Balde must play. If this policy had been adopted all season he would be in a much better position.
I applaud Gordon for sticking with JVoH and Skippy because no one else in our squad is capable of scoring the amount of goals they score. Take their goals and numerous assists away and where would we be?
I applaud him for sticking by Naka.
Robson is a real Celtic player he must be in the starting line up for the last five matches. Still can't understand the decision to take him off on Wednesday.
A win today would begin to put pressure on them but a big win would send out a clear message.
-
Sorry, if this has been posted before, but both sides of the motorway at the Royal has lanes closed, added to that, there was an overturned tanker opposite Royston. Don't know if it will be cleared up before kick off, but I was an extra half hour this morning going to work.
-
Nipping out now but just a quick couple of comments before I go.
I was not criticising Paul or his efforts. It is not my place nor am I qualified.
I felt that the responses to the articles were tending towards a siege mentality rather than an offensive (in the best sense)approach.
No negative criticism was intended other than on my own inability to contribute.
Secondly, back to the Camnamalar discussion supplemented by a number of contributors notably Taurangabhoy.
I have never doubted that in various dark places in our society, people (and I use the term loosely - although they seem to like putting 'we are the' before it)exist, thrive, and breathe to fulminate and connive against Celtic, Celtic Supporters, Catholics, Republicans, and all those other ne'er do wells who threaten their self endowed supremacy or even those who happen to have green socks on!
That is the intellect that we are talking about here, those who use the term 'enemy' when considering a child's education who we then provide a soap box for to broadcast their evil seeds!
They exist in the SFA, The SPL, The Lodges, the Pubs, the streets, and under stones.
I personally have known and fought against many of them.
I have no doubt that blatant actions of bias are perpetrated, encouraged and overlooked by those people and their mates in some sections of the press.
No way will I try and justify their existence never mind their actions.
But I also know of others representing thousands upon thousands possibly millions of magic personalities who see them for what they are and treat them with the ridicule they deserve.
It is for that reason that I refuse to accept any statement that generalises bigoted actions and makes them characteristics of all Scots. That is as racist as the bigots who sang 'the famine's over' song, and I will not stoop to their level.
You may as well say that all priests are Paedophiles.
Anyway off out now.
May see you in BBs between 12 and 12.30.
Hail hail

I am an infrequent poster but constant reader.
Gordon J 11.01- my own father comes into that category, when he was younger apparently he never missed a game at Ibrox.
Now- he has nothing but contempt for the club, in fact he has been to a few Celtic games over the years and no doubt roots for us in games against them.
My 2 siblings are bluenoses (I don't have a problem debating football with one but not the other). My aul man views their football attitudes with a sense of resignation, but 1 thing for sure is that he is proud of me for my views and love of our club.
Anyway, after 92 mins of Wednesday, today's match was shaping up to be one I was dreading, 1 minute later and everything changed- I am as pumped up for today as I was for Wednesday.
They are crumbling, it is up to us to keep the pressure up.
Hail Hail and onwards to (a very unlikely) 3 in a row!
-
We are on the way back it seems and todays game cannot come quick enough for me - 3-1 I'm sure.
Some posters seems to forget that we have our share of knuckle dragging swampmen that follow the hoops; I saw the saddest sight ever on Wednesday after the game - a father a child (the kid was no more than 5-years old) walking past the Celtic Shop in the car park; the area was mobbed so others must have seen this sorry sight too: The pair hand in hand were belting out the Nacho Novo hope you die in your bed song .......... followed by a rousing chorus of "if you hate the feckin Rangers, hate the feckin rangers ..."
In this day and age how can this still be happening? Some posters see everything thro' green tinted glasses - wake up guys we have our share of wasters too.
On a happier note - how sweet was that feeling on Wednesday evening when the ref blew for time up? Hail Hail!
-
benjy,
Every club has its share of undesirable supporters, ourselves included. I sometines go to first division games if we aren't playing on a Saturday and there are some similar chants there.
But while we should not forget that, we should acknowledge that it is a small minority in our case. Which can't be said by a certain other club.
-
Bryce Curdy,
I see what you mean after re-reading that but it is not how I took in on first instgance. I felt lurgan53 was stating that DO'L would fit the mould the media peepul feel we fit 'Celtic minded' because he is Irish and most probably Catholic and that his nationality and religion he is most certainly not one of us and never will be. It's funny how we read things differently.
The only person who can confirm/deny is Lurgan53 but I tend to think, and hope, he meant it the way I took it.

even managers should stay to the end of the game
ROY Keane has already endured one nightmare derby moment this week, so he is determined not to suffer another when Sunderland head for Newcastle tomorrow.
The Irishman was at Parkhead on Wednesday when the battle of the Old Firm looked destined to finish in a 1-1 draw.
At that point, with 15 minutes remaining, Keane disappeared to his car in a bid to miss the crowds and missed the injury-time winner from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink that has raised Hoops' hopes of catching the Gers in the title race.
But Keane, a former Celtic midfielder and childhood fan, was not around to witness the green and white celebrations - although he was soon left wishing he was.
"I was literally 50 yards from the ground when I realised Celtic had scored," said Keane, who insists that he was north of the border purely as a spectator, rather than on a scouting mission.
"I was locked in the car park because they wouldn't let us out. We left but not early enough so I had an interesting conversation with the police woman for about an hour.
She wouldn't let us out - and she was a Rangers fan!"

Estadio & Canamalar
Thank you both for allowing me to eneter the 'public gallery' and listen to your discussion, it was very interesting and revealing (Estadio .... Shades of Alba is top class work).
The one thing I am sure of (apart from my God)is that mankind never changes but it is mankind that changes everything. Look for good and you will find it everywhere around you but never be naive in not realising that power is something that most find impossible to give up and, as a result, will do almost anything that will allow them to hold on to it.
Ther are many sayings/ quotations which,I feel, almost touch the real heart of mankind and one of my favourites is one which goes something like this:
"The reasonable man adjusts to the world around him, the unreasonable man expects the world to adjust to him. That is why the unreasonable man is the one who achieves change!"
I think Canalmar last post which included the words "our freedom to express ourselves was won by martyrs" sways the discussion for me.
Thanks again.

11:40, benjy
I too heard that song on Wednesday and was mortally offended that our Club will be associated with it. To me it is as vile as the group of Rangers supporters who continue with the "BJK" slander.
-
Stoir - apology accepted from me. I should have just posted the first response, so please accept mine to you.
I'll never criticise anyone for defending this current board and the last thing on my mind is giving amunition to our enemies. They come up with plenty of that by themselves.
I understand your concerns, but the beauty of this blog is that for the most part posters say what they are thinking and from the heart.
We all operate within Paul's guidelines as it is his blog. In fact I mailed him directly last week to ask about a rumour I heard rather than put it up here as it would have been potential ammo. Unfortunately, another poster put it up on the blog anyway!
There is a broad spectrum of opinions on here and long may it continue, but there are posters on here like myself who get dismayed at the levels of abuse sometimes. Negative posters should be allowed their opinion without being shouted down or ganged up on. They, in turn, should have the courage to come on here when things are going well, otherwise we'll just think that they are "Green Huns".
Hope you enjoy the game today, wherever you are watching it. A couple of thousand ex-pats in the stadium would be a welcome replacement for the thousands of "customers" who just sit there and don't get behind the team.
Hail Hail

Sorry I did not reply earlier, I had already went to bed by that point.
In reference to that post, I took from your posts at 2.45 & 3.44 that you do judge or categorise people to whatever extent by the team they support. An us and them mentality even within your family, and seemingly judging EU on the basis that he supports Rangers regardless of what their fans do.
If your view is something different i'm happy to listen to it, but what I typed earlier on this morning was just what I took to be your stance from your posts.
On a happier note, I had a dream last night, that Celtic won 4-0.
Okay, I didn't have a dream, but I'll go with it anyways.

Estadio,
Who wrote that poem, Shades of Alba ? I really enjoyed it. Passed it on to a couple of Writer friends of mine. Reminds me of that powerful song "A Parcel of Rogues".
Very good interview with WGS on Celtic Tv last night. None of the sharp answering nonsense. Made a very valid point when he stated that G Caldwell is a very brave player, not diving into tackles brave, but is prepared to hold/carry the ball and look for a team mate to pass to when under pressure.
Match no longer on Polsat (thanks Celtic plc) so I'll be watching on CQN.

Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league
They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,
They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,
From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,
To a place called dear old paradise and this is what they say.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.
There's Fallon, Young and Gemmel who proudly wear the green,
There's Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,
Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,
And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.
Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, I'm sure you will agree,
We'll never give up till we've won the cup and the scottish football league.

I guess its just me that thought that the rangers game was the mirror image of the game at Ibrox the last time with the exception of a gret Naka goal and a last minute winner...
We outplayed them 1st half
They showed very little but still managed to score
We relied mainly on the high ball to grab the winner
The main difference was because cuellar had been sent off the high ball actually worked this time...
The decision to take robson off was a disgraceful decision...he was the player that was giving us impetus in midfield with the ball on the deck...
We won the game despite the manager not because of him....Hopefully we can do the same today...
Hail Hail....
Welcome back Bobo!
Darren I hope you are fit as you will be playing next week as Mick is sure to get booked today...

That submission was the best revisionist piece...that has ever graced these pages...
My congratulations...
"It is not the fault of the Manager... It is the fault of the players... for our dreary season"
Who said that?
I dinna know... but,by jingo...
He knows his onions~
